ESPN is trying to frame the "beef" between Draymond and Towns as some loveable banter and completely trying to change the story of what Draymond actually said to cause controversy. Every time KAT and Draymond get into it they are trying to frame it as trash talk, and only in the second quarter did Mike Breen explain the story of Draymond saying that he heard KAT was ducking Jimmy Butler when in reality he was at a funeral.

Draymond original comments:

"Some would say he didn’t play because Jimmy was in the building," Green originally said. "I saw KAT’s pops at the game yesterday. I got incredible love for the OG, his pops is an incredible man. But yeah, they say KAT didn’t play because Jimmy came into town … I don’t know what was hurt. I didn’t look that deep into it to figure out what his injury was or nothing like that.”

Richard Jefferson then chimed in saying that Draymond did apologize, which Mike Breen agreed with. Draymond absolutely did not apologize for what he said, and in fact doubled down on it (which was one of the main reasons it blew up so much).

Draymond's comments after being told what happened:

"That's unfortunate, I'm sorry to hear that. That sucks," Green said. "But my comments that I made were, you know, 'People, what I heard was this.' That's what I heard. So I do send my well wishes to him and his family.

"It's inevitable, we all experience death in one way or another, and we'll all experience it in the same way one day. So it's unfortunate, you never wish that on anybody, but 'The Draymond Green Show with Baron Davis' must go on."

Josh Hart even specifically pointed out that the team wished that Draymond did actually apologize when asked because he did not, even after being made aware of the situation.

"I think KAT handled it the right way. For me I have my own podcast and all that stuff. Whenever I’m wrong about something I’ll sit there and say I was (wrong). For me, I wish he kind of did that, just apologized. You don’t got to be embarrassed or feel like apologizing is when you’re wrong isn’t manly. I wish he did. Now that’s in the past and we’re moving on.”

Completely irresponsible reporting from ESPN who refuses to actually call Draymond out for what he said, and it's a shame that even Mike Breen is failing to accurately report what happened so as not to really point out what Draymond's complete lack of accountability as KAT continues to take the high road over the situation.

  1. ESPN/Disney farming bullshit articles again. Can’t even cover an NBA game without it being a snooze fest – had to go poach talent. That company is a joke.

  2. NBA media is forever in love with Draymond, he can do no wrong. Kat is at the opposite end of the media spectrum. He will literally do nothing but a controversy will be stirred around him. From a likability and general good person perspective, the media narrative is so backwards on them. Thought it would switch when he went to a big market, but nope. They just hate Kat.

  3. It feels disgusting listening to them even talk about it. Why keep bringing that family into this? Fuck Draymond

  4. The media gets told what to talk about by their bosses. Draymond loses credibility then they all do. Just reinforce the lie and enough people will see it and believe it.

  5. I noticed this too when watching the broadcast. I was wondering why Doris and RJ kept talking about how this was some rivalry or just competitive banter? RJ must have mentioned 18 times how he was teammates and it’s just “Draymond being Draymond” and how he’s a ‘professional’ instigator.

You wonder why he keeps doing the shit he’s doing and you sort of understand that he actually gets applauded for doing this by his peers. I think it’s great to be competitive but it’s a piece of shit move to make something up about someone who lost a family member/friend to cancer. Reminds me of when he put Gobert in the choke hold and ESPN tried to frame it like he’s a victim and needs to get mental help. He’s actually lucky to be paired up with Steph who is incredibly likable.

Thank god Breen was there to actually correct them. I miss the times when Broadcasters were impartial and just called the game. ESPN doing anything they can to push narratives left and right so they have something to talk about during

  6. Draymond is pretty much besties with Bron+a whole bunch of people in the nba media space. They’ve been treating him with kid gloves on for years despite his antics.

  7. This is America. Say bullshit, refuse to apologize, and succeed because of your arrogance.

  8. When Jefferson said “Draymond did apologize” I said out loud”uh no, he did not.” 🙄

  9. RJ and Doris ~~might be~~ is the worst commentating duo in sports history. I switched over to the Korean broadcast, no clue what they’re saying and it’s still a 1000% improvement.

  10. They said on air that “well at least he apologized after he learned the truth”. No he sure as fuck did not apologize. He said “well that’s what I was hearing” and that’s literally it. He did not admit he was wrong and he did not say he was sorry for spreading a pretty easily provable lie. And of course they get RJ (who I generally don’t hate but goddamn he used to be the guy’s teammate) and Doris (big trouble if I speak) to glaze this clown the entire game.

  11. The entire broadcast handled it pathetically

They even had their sideline reporter try to bait KAT into talking about it and he deflected it professionally.

  12. It’s going to be funny when this post gets more upvotes/engagement than the actual games being played. Y’all love the drama more than the game

  13. They need to stop talking about this shit. A family lost their wife/daughter/mother/etc. and now they have to keep seeing bullshit in the media about it because of their proximity to KAT. And KAT lost someone that he was very close to, and has done nothing but taken the high road over this. There’s nothing to be gained by dragging this out in the media — just clicks at the expense of a young mother who passed away from cancer and the people who actually knew and loved her.

    It’s pathetic of ESPN

  14. Doris and RJ are the worst color commentators. Just absolute garbage to listen to

  15. I was actually surprised they had the audacity to ask KAT about that during a sideline interview during a game. It just seemed very low classy.

  16. “what I heard was” hmm maybe don’t be a jackass and push a rumor which never had validity. But we know Draymond isn’t a sensible person so that’d never happen.

Love breen, but this is where his being unbiased to a fault comes into play. He doesn’t want to play sides as the Knicks announcer so he was barely critical of Draymond. The announcing team continued to praise green’s play later in the game too. Total failing by them.

  17. The Draymond slurping this whole game has been wild, like Steph is one of the elitest of the elite and they don’t give him nearly as much love

Meanwhile Draymond could shit himself and RJ/Doris/Breen would blow a simultaneous tri-load over the savvy play

  18. ESPN propping up Draymond as a sports analyst is ridiculous in the first place. Inside the NBA is culpable too

  19. They literally interviewed KAT between the 1st & 2nd quarter to ask him about it. Wtf is wrong with them

  20. I honestly can’t believe nobody has retaliated against Draymond on the court yet for all the shit he talks about other players and antics he pulls.

  21. I love Breen. He’s my GOAT announcer, but I’m really disappointed that he let this conversation go on like it did on the broadcast without correcting things. Draymond did NOT apologize and we need to stop babying him. He’s an adult and when he does stupid shit he should be called out on it.

  22. Tangent but, can we take a moment to appreciate the local coverage crews across the country, because in most cases they absolutely shit on ESPN/TNT’s coverage of games.

  23. “some would say” is such a coward thing to say, btw. It’s the chickenest possible version of “here’s what I wanna say”. What a coward, on top of it all
