The NBA Has a Referee Problem…

  1. I don’t think inconsistent reffing will ever be fixed and the L2M report is pretty much the nbas attempt at it but of course it dosent actually punish anyone. Sad thing but games will still sometimes be decided on missed or bad calls.

  2. Why was the play even reviewed for a hostile act when Dort clearly falls with no player around him?

  3. Referee Brian Forte could have said “you’re right, my bad,” when he realized OKC should not have been lined up for a technical foul free throw. Instead his feelings got hurt and he decided to give 3 technicals on the Pistons, ejecting their best player Cade Cunningham. These refs need to be held accountable!

  4. This is one of the major reasons why the NBA is damn near unwatchable these days….

  5. Been saying this for years. Everybody should’ve seen and understood this when Draymond Green got a tech for yelling at his own teammate like 5 years ago.

No other sport in the history of contact sports has ever given points to a team because of *words* used by the other team.

It’s soft, pathetic, weak, and amateur at best. If you can’t handle a hyper-competitive, hyper emotional, and egotistical athlete telling you you’re wrong for a bad call, you do not have any place officiating in this league.

  6. OP you’re getting a 100k$ fine for complaining about the call and another 50k for posting a video of said foul

  7. The whole team should have just walked off the court. See if the NBA can make money when there’s no game

  8. At this point they should probably just get rid of technical fouls. Refs can’t be trusted to call them correctly in either direction.

  9. Fire that ref. Dude was clearly wrong. Didn’t want to admit it. Started power tripping like a dickhead. Refs need to be suspended for this kinda shit.

  10. As a thunder fan that was total bullshit should’ve never been a foul and Cade should’ve not got thrown out. Bullshit ref ing. Let em play ref!

  11. Ref Union has a stranglehold on the NBA. You’d need a commissioner with balls to do anything about it. Silver will never do anything unless revenue drops drastically.

  12. If the NBA wants to improve the viewing experience and ratings they need to do something about refereeing. Refs have been nothing short of atrocious this season.

  13. It’s pretty recent that the refs became suspiciouly incompetent. I feel it started about the time all these gambling sites started getting big. I wonder what changed.

  14. I know I’m preaching to the choir here, but if you’re 100% in the right, there should be no technical. To be ejected because the ref fucked up is some absolute bullshit. Investigate that ref.

  15. Bush league shit T’ing him up the second time just because Cade called his BS.

  16. Glad this was uploaded so people realize the blatant clickbait and misinformation going around that the JB coach outcry was in any way related to SGA flopping or OKC having a favourable whistle.

  17. When a player is wrong guess what happens? Fines and ejections for himself. When a coach is wrong guess what happens ? Fines and ejections for himself. When a ref is wrong guess what happens? Fines and ejections for **EVERYONE ELSE AROUND THEM** …. Spot the difference lol

  18. The atrocious referee quality continually going down for 10+ years at this point is, imo, the league’s worst problem.

I believe that if they can’t fix it ratings will keep going down

  19. speaking of refs…didn’t the pistons challenge 2 calls against them fouling Shai and won them both?

  20. The easiest fix that has everybody’s best interest in mind is to have a separate crew whose job is to just look at footage from plays all around the league that will do the reviews.

    This will

    1) prevent the initial crew from reviewing their own call.

    2) prevent the officials from being harassed about the interpretation

    3) speed the process up significantly

Referees still have problems. I think the best way to make sure the plays get called better is by having more referees on the court. Officials are out of position A LOT. Part of this is because they have to run up and down the court to keep up with NBA players. Plus, they’re shorter and often screened out by the players. This means they’re going to have to guess a lot.

Anyone who watches basketball has seen the referees tell players they didn’t see it. Or look at a player and literally shrug. This is incredibly frustrating for players, which leads to escalation of tensions and MORE complaining.

Add in at least a 4th official. The league has enough money to pay for more officials. This would assure floor balance and more angles. Also having a 4th official would mean that it is even harder for one bad official to ruin the game.

Ideally we would have official teams on both sides of the floor in position and not having to run up and down the court. Better calls makes for a better game, and less arguing with officials. I know players arguing calls is annoying, but look at those same players throughout the game and you’ll see them getting mauled without calls. A lot of the times because they’re screened out, and then people say they don’t get calls because they complain (Which is a bad explanation because it means the official still sucks btw).

  21. Adam Silver and his regime of blind zebras, including Brian Forte, are going to run this league into the ground faster than Trump and his illiterate goons can destroy America…

note: I stopped watching this garbage 10 years ago when Tony Brothers was 50. (didn’t have legs or a brain then)

  22. Part of the reason viewership is down

Like yo… if you make a mistake just own up to it, in general refs need to call shit a bit more evenly. The idea players will get something called on them purely cause reputation is actually pretty stupid.

Yeah, we play physical defense, so does OKC, so does Orlando and many other teams… yet it feels like we get called for tic tac fouls more then many others.

I just want some fairness in the calls.

  23. I mean the refs clearly have a vendetta against JB and Stewart has a reputation. JB has to constantly waste challenges on bad calls made against us. He’s very outspoken against the refs so they hold that against him.

  24. I’d love it if a team just went to the locker room when the officiating was this bad. What a terrible crew

  25. If there was ever a reason to investigate suspicious actions due to gambling… this is just outrageous.

  26. Refs fucking suck this season. Wild that it lines up when Sports betting started getting involved. I’m sure that had nothing to do with it.

  27. Why do so many NBA refs behave exactly like corrupt cops? Unchecked power, fragile egos and constantly doubling down on their mistakes resulting in other people suffering rather being accountable

  28. God it feels good to be fucking pissed about this as opposed to wanting self-defenestrate last year

  29. This entire sequence was bizarre and a terrible look for Adam Silver. How can you let refs who don’t know the rules onto the floor?

  30. Saw the video of Cade getting tossed with no context. Thanks for posting this.

  31. Refs kinda behave like cops, probably because they have the equivalent of qualified immunity and can power trip without being held accountable. Unless a punch is thrown or a slur is used a tech should not be called
