Bronny James Says Criticism Motivates Him, I'm Not a 'F***ing Robot'

He continued on, "But I just take that and use it as fuel for me to go out, wake up every day and get to the gym early, get my extra work in, watch my extra film every day, get better every day," the 20-year-old added. "That's what Rob [Pelinka] wants me to do as a young guy, coming in, playing in the G League, and learning from far on the bench watching the Lakers play."

  1. Honestly great words for a young guy in a hard spot. He has the means to just say fuck life and go be a socialite, invest some money in real estate or business and live his life easy. And he may still do all that, but for now seeing him say and do the right things is just awesome.

  2. It’s interesting he refers to the Lakers as a team he’s not a part of. I get what he means though.

  3. Inb4 people refuse to empathize with a 20 year old kid getting a ton of hate because his dad is rich

  4. It’s pretty pathetic how so many people wanna drag this kid just to hate on his dad lol

  5. I hope that he’s avoiding social media at all costs. It’s not worth the strain.

  6. I know people always say “He’s making so much money so who cares”, but imagine going online and seeing tens of thousands of people make fun of you every day. That’s got to be so tough mentally

  7. People don’t like nepotism.  Probably a shocking revelation to Bronny.

  8. Having a chip on your shoulder is a great motivator to improve and get better.

  9. I would never want to be a celebrity, people are super toxic about any public figure, it’s wild. And if I were a celebrity, I’d literally never look at any social media, and stay away from “news” in whatever field I’m in, because fuck that.

  10. I love the mentality he has.

He’s the 55th pick but people act like he’s supposed to be a Top 15 player lol

  11. Hes been good in the g league. I really do think he’ll become a good player in the nba. There’s almost nobody that would succeed in his position. The one person who could, just happens to be his dad lol

  12. Like LeBron said he didn’t have to do this. He could’ve gone the route of Marcus and Jeffrey Jordan, complete college. Use their father’s name to get free shit and be treated like kings in campus and party like animals, do coke, run trains and work for their father’s company with an easy position and have limitless advancement opportunities.

Instead Bronny taking the hardest road of Nepotism. Proving you actually deserve the position. JJ only lets him play Garbage time and he has to develop like the rest of the dude’s.

Getting guaranteed contract is like working as a dish washer for your dad’s franchise burger joint. His pops got him in the door but it’s up to Bronny to get that promotion.

  13. I don’t understand why people hate the kid so much. It’s not like he’s arrogant about his position. I’m rooting for the kid

  14. You know as a kid who I’m assuming could very easily set up his life financially by having his father help him out, I respect him wanting to play.

  15. I hope he earns his stripes. We all know he’s in the league because of LeBron but I want to see him prove that he belongs.

  16. The big question is did he leave college because he thought he was ready for the NBA or did he give in to pressure to play with his dad? He really should have stayed in college.

  17. I just wish someone can tell me who the Lakers should’ve drafted at 55? Because it’s lame to say he doesn’t deserve it but won’t say who does. People also have to remember it’s 55/58 not the usual 60

  18. To be fair people talk shit even about the best players. Welcome to the pros

  19. Imagine opening TikTok and people are making full love ballads to your dad lol. What a strange life

  20. Everybody wants to shit on him but he’s got a good head on his shoulder it seems like. It’s not his fault there are better players than him that he got drafted over. People forget the upside. Late pick for a kid who has Lebron’s genes is a no brainer to me. How many late draft picks never play a minute and no one gives it a second thought.

  21. As someone who’s ever worked with their parents in the same workplace, and their parents is seen as a star, people view the kid to higher standards. It sucks sometimes because you just want to be your own person, but everyone has some expectation that you’ll resemble your parent.

  22. I totally understand the nepotism claims and how “easy Bronny’s life is” but he gets a TON of unwarranted shit.

The guy is a late second round pick but is put under the microscope like he was drafted #1 overall. He’s actually had a fairly successful rookie season given proper expectations but is only seen as the punchline to a joke.

  23. I thought about it, somehow media coverage portrays him like that too in a way. He needs some PR, maybe YouTube channel or something to showcase his personality and create his own public image apart from just being LeSperm.

  24. His father is literally a billionaire, who essentially bought him a spot on an NBA team. If you think I have an ounce of pity to give this man, you are high off your ass.

  25. It’s insane that the 55th pick is getting this much scrutiny while the top 10 picks are playing like ass and there hasn’t been a single peep from critics lol

  26. Luckily- when it comes to this kind of thing he has the best father humanly possible to help him

  27. I think we should all just heap tons of praise on him like over the top. It would be way weirder.

  28. All I can say is, welcome to the league. It’s only gonna get worse and that’s for any player in the spotlight. But he’s in the spotlight not for his game, but cause of his Dad. Just how it goes. Toughen that skin and keep getting better.

  29. LeBron is partly to blame for this because he prioritized his legacy over his kid’s mental health, but no one is ready to have that conversation. He’s one of the greatest basketball minds of all time so he knew his son wasn’t ready for the league.

Call me a hater all you want. This is the cold, harsh truth.

  30. Bronny is an undeserving nepo kid who wouldn’t get drafted after his garbage college year.

He deserves the limelight and criticism because he was handed everything on a silver platter.

What Bronny wants is both undeserving success (getting drafted, getting a full contract) without any of the spotlight.

  31. You signed an unserved 7m contract. I would too but you got to eat the criticism.

No one cares about Paul George feelings, as an example

  32. As many rich kids we see that are complete dickheads, you’d think we’d appreciate that Bronny seems like a solid guy

  33. People will literally use the fact that he’s rich as an excuse to be an asshole about him. It’s weird how unempathetic people will be towards someone when they truly believe having money makes you invulnerable emotionally. It’s dehumanizing. They are, indeed, seeing him as some kind of robot.

  34. This kid died playing basketball and came back to play more.  Anyone clowning him is a loser.

  35. The thing is, no one would care that much if he just got drafted despite not being good enough.

It’s that his dad is using him as a prop for legacy points, which does invite some level of mockery.

  36. Its a kid who isn’t supposed to be out there, plain and simple. You wanna play in the show your gonna get criticized, especially when people are confused as to why your there.

  37. Not his fault that his dad set him up for this. Now clowns like SAS are calling out LeBron for this but somehow LeBron thinks it’s a direct attack on Bronny.

  38. “I got this job I didn’t earn and people have the nerve to comment on it”

I’m sorry if I don’t feel horrible that he’s being criticized. Is it over the top sometimes? Sure. But it’s not like that he didn’t know that going into this.
