[The Athletic] Rob Manfred pledged to keep MLB’s values on diversity “unchanged” back in February. But now, MLB’s careers home page has no reference to “diversity,” with a league spokesman telling The Athletic they’re “evaluating” the programs.

  1. I mean, of all the people I expect to be shallow & spineless, Manfred and the owners are near the top of the list. I’m actually surprised he bothered to say any different in February.

  2. my advice would be to visit the Negro Leagues museum in Kansas City as soon as you can. I don’t expect it to remain open much longer.

  3. Has some reporter asked this coward why they didnt come out stronger about the takedown off the Jackie Robinson page? MLB should have been the one to make the statement that Passan did

  4. the dominican summer league probably sounds like DEI too, better shut it down…

  5. That’s all these big corporations, sports teams etc.

They were all just waiting for this to happen so they could throw all these policies in the trash. I’m not surprised at all, the only reason these leagues/companies even instituted policies like this was because they were forced to begin with.

  6. Baseball truly is the most diverse sport of the major American leagues. Although the NBA is quickly catching up.

Truly a shame but totally unsurprising

Especially given the slow decline in African-American players in the game over the last couple of decades.

  7. Insane to me that the word diversity has become controversial, what the hell is happening man

  8. In a really sad way, it’s kind of funny they knew about the backlash they’d get for announcing this DURING Black History Month, so they just waited a few weeks.

  9. MLB: Hey Japan, look at Ohtani! Come spend money on all this shit we put his name on.

Also MLB: We evaluate diversity on a case by case ba$e$.

  10. If you’re “evaluating” why did you already take down the pages? Seems like you already made up your mind. Pathetic. It literally hurts no one to keep it up and just causes drama to take it down. Good job I guess.

  11. for those of you asleep during history class in school, diversity and equality don’t just happen naturally. society has to be pushed towards those ideals, and even in 2025 we are still a long fucking way away from the finish line.

  12. Manfred being spineless is not surprising. *BUT*, where are all the articles about him and/or owners refusing to comment on stories about it. Why aren’t we doing a better job reporting and getting them on the record?

  13. Remember people: corporations are not your friends or allies. Never have been, never will be.

  14. Yeah, they’re ‘evaluating’ whether or not they can get any federal tax breaks by swapping Jackie Robinson Day out for Pete Rose.

  15. This is about money. The owners are trying to protect their antitrust exemption. Diversity and inclusion take a backseat to the pocketbooks of billionaires when it becomes financially inconvenient.

  16. Well, the important thing is the most diverse professional sport in the country not acknowledging that fact.

  17. Silent when the administration tried to erase Jackie Robinson’s history then doing this right afterward. Manfred and the owner’s are showing their asses.

  18. Isn’t the MLB the most diverse of the major sports in NA?

The face of MLB is literally Japanese (don’t tell Stephen A that), I don’t think any other league comes even close.

  19. he means that they’re still going to make money off all that pride merch and all those jackie robinson jerseys and all the specific “heritage night” gear/ticket packages but they’re not going to necessarily hire more PoC or care about them in any meaningful way

  20. Normally I would call out the use of “back in February”, but February feels like 3 years ago
