When You’re The NHL’s Biggest ‘Disaster’

This is the Vancouver Canucks. To say that parts of this season has been a circus, may honestly be an understatement. After being one win away from going to the conference final last season, many expected the Canucks to take another leap. But things took a turn. A massive rift between two of their superstar centres became a distraction so large that it directly led to one of them being dealt. Now – the canucks are in a dog fight to try and squeak into the playoffs. It has been a rollercoaster of a season where at times, they look completely broken. But can they somehow find a way? Or will they fall short? Let’s take a deeper look.

  1. I feel like we can have a shot with how some of the rookies are playing this season. Maybe next season or the season after we could see this team be better

  2. Well, the good thing is that EP40 is willing to adjust and is trying hard to. Rantanen did not want to adjust at all. In the end, the combination of Pettersson's east-west/hold the puck style with Tocchet's South-North "move your feet, shoot the puck, crash the net" style may work out for the better in 2-3 years. It may make EP40 more complete.
Let's hope Vancouver makes the playoffs and that Elias is back 100% healthy in the playoffs.

  3. Yeah it's been a season alright. Ahhh well…whaddya gonna do? I hope they sneak in but probably won't. I'm fine with either way at this point.
I like the way they've restructured the D. It's looking very deep for next year. All things being equal, they need to figure out a quality 2nd line center and one more top 6 winger and they can bounce back very strongly. The Center is a big ask though.

  4. Hope they have a coaching change. Tocchet isn’t the right type of coach for this team plus the way he handled locker room issues as a head coach wasn’t very impressive.

  5. When Pettersson scored over 100 points, he was shooting. And in my opinion he has one of the best slapshot, wrist shot combos, top 10 if not top 5. Guy needs to shoot more, and while he was looking better recently he still needs to have a shot first mentality. He needs to simplify his game, don't overcomplicate it, nobody is going to fault him for throwing the puck on the net, but hesitating then deciding to shoot is not good.

  6. As a Canucks fan I kind of hope we don't make it, let it be a wake up call to players that they have to be better than this. Its not just Petey that's fallen off, Joshua was a rockstar last season (I know he's got health issues) Boeser was a legend and is now more or less a decent average winger, the only players holding our team together seem to be Hughes, Lankinen and Garland. It's like everyone else just stopped trying.
