What is the Cards depth at WR? Does the passing game drop off a cliff with an injury to McBride or MHJ? I'm high on Wilson, but I have to go with MHJ in the injury fear because he's supposed to be #1.
Let's face it. JG, Petzing, and Rallis are all first time coaches in their roles. JG and Rallis is doing well. Petzing has been questionable. Petzing designs a ball control offense and JG signs off on that. Defensive coordinators who become head coaches tend to run low turnover risk offenses. What JG / Petzing do is increase / decrease risk according to the situation. The weakness of Petzing's offense has appeared to be his passing scheme creativity, especially when the Cards fall behind.
Alex it feels like he doesn’t throw so much but it’s actually his completion and not the attempts.. here is his attempts 35,48,32,30,38,45,37,24,20, 36,26,32,30,22,34,21,31… so only 4 games are under 25 passes.. I believe it feels that way cause the Offense is so stagnant and it’s those dump offs..
Need better pass protection to throw the ball more. PJJ was our best pass protector and hes 27th at his position according to pff… Having an undersized C(i like froholdt) doesn't help either when the pressure K1 is most susceptible to is up the middle. The strength of the O line is in run blocking currently and thats why they tend to go with run plays more
I don’t think there’s any position on the team that’s totally set nor do I think there’s a huge weakness. OT, DT, if not it needs the be a fast receiver.
The Cardinals need a WR that can take the top off the defense. That player is not on this roster currently.
Expecting petzing & Gannon to change their offensive philosophy at this point is an unreal expectation. They’ve used this philosophy for years, it’s what they believe in, they ran back the same offensive players in order to run th same system. This system wants to run the ball first & play elite defense behind that running game. It’s how they both learned to be successful, and they’re not changing it now. They were forced to throw the ball more than they liked last year due to the game flow. For their philosophy to work requires them to be leading, which they weren’t in many games lol. The games they were leading in the pass attempts dropped by a significant margin.
