Giannis on LeBron saying he’d score 250 points in a 1970s game:

“It’s a wrong take… It would probably be more like 275.”

  1. I really like his perspective in the full quote and I wish more people thought of it that way instead of saying something like Bob Cousy is a milkman who would get cooked by Kyrie.

  2. The stupid grin appearing 15 seconds before he makes the joke lol he finds himself so funny

  3. Someone just passed by my windows open and they ripped ass and I heard that shit bro.

  4. I know people like to meme about it but no he wouldn’t score 200 in the 70s

For starters the game was more physical, you didn’t get as many load management games and schedules were worse

He would take a beating being a player that mostly scores in paint, he’s big but not bigger than other dominant bigs like Wilt and Kareem

I don’t think he’d score more than a prime Kareem or Wilt in 70s, not a knock on him just reality

  5. Kind of sucks that Bucks season is pretty much over. Feels bad for Dame.

  6. I wish more people would think like this. You can’t drop modern day Giannis in the 70s and think everything would be the same. He wouldn’t have all the technology and sports science modern NBA players have now, the dribbling style as he said, play style, the crazy athleticism would be lower (still would be freeky athletic), etc.. I’m convinced elite hoopers in one era would be an elite hooper in any era, but to say 250pts is completely disrespectful and out of touch. Big miss by lebron.

  7. Look a player having fun and understanding that LeBron was just saying Giannis would dominate in that era as well

  8. Knowing how arrogant LeBum is, he’s probably indirectly saying he would score 250 HIMSELF, while using Giannis’s physical domination as an argument instead of his to avoid backlash from the community.

  9. If Giannis somehow went back in time to play a single game and only scored 248, SAS will absolutely go on air and roast LeBron for not knowing ball and being blasphemous cause Giannis failed to score 250.

These talking head/hot take artists only have a platform because we pay attention to them. Their entertainment value has been overtaken by how annoying they’ve become with their hot takes and disrespect for the players as people.

  10. Still want to see some of these young players deal with a Barkley chicken wing to the neck.

  11. Is he wearing crushed velvet? Is that why they’re asking him about the 70s?

  12. The reporters response to “what’s your take” gave me a fucking stroke. Can’t imagine Giannis understood what he was saying as a non native speaker lol.

  13. If Giannis played in the 70s (assuming still w/ the Bucks) they’d be overpowered with prime Kareem and veteran Big O alongside him 🤯

  14. What a good take. I agree with him, comparing eras is silly because Giannis would be a different player if he played in the 70s.

  15. Like a true father, he was charging up that joke in real time until he could release it and get all giddy

  16. No one would have known him in highschool, he wouldn’t have been chasing being better than MJ, and probably would have been a literal janitor.

  17. God I love this take from Giannis. Most reasonable response to this topic. He’s realistic and is very neutral about it. But deep down he knows he’ll bulldoze the fuck out of that era.

Good on you, Giannis. Humble motherfucker

  18. Giannis gave a very diplomatic answer, but there are some players, regardless of skill, because of their size and athleticism, would dominate in any era. Giannis being one of them.

  19. And IF they played with no major preparation time, just scouting report, good modern teams would CRUSH best teams from the 70s, 80s, or probably even 90s.

Not because the talent is better, but simply because those older teams had extremely inefficient, non-optimized, offensive schemes, compared to modern teams. Those older teams simply can’t score high volume 3s at 37% or better, and can’t guard the sophisticated offenses that weaponize the 3 to create space. 5 out, stretch bigs, multiple players who can handle and shoot the 3, will simply score too many points per possession on average, especially against defenses that have never seen beautifully executed offenses that make the triangle offense look like basic arithmetic.

Modern teams could just pack the paint, let the older team get theirs at a decently high rate, and just collect points at an inevitably much faster rate.

    Caveat:
Of course if you inserted MJ into the modern squad, and gave him minimum prep time, I’m sure he’d pick up all the concepts, work on his 3, be unstoppable in modern era, and maybe still be the GOAT. But his best 90s team would struggle to produce enough points against recent champions because the coaches who designed their schemes and how ball was played simply didn’t understand the basic analytics, and how to optimize shot value.
