On today’s episode of Locked On Stars, Joey Erickson shares his ideal Stanley Cup Playoff lineup for the Dallas Stars if they are fully healthy. With the anticipation of the return of Miro Heiskanen and Tyler Seguin Joey dives into his forward combinations and defensive pairings he would deploy in the playoffs. He also explains why he had a change of heart on the dilemma between Matt Dumba and Cody Ceci who could possibly be the odd man out. In the next segment Joey shares the Stars Red Flags from The Athletic and how Dallas needs to turn things around if they want to make a deep run. Finally, the West is still up for grabs and if Dallas can win the Central it would make their lives much easier to start the playoffs.

  1. seems simple to me!

    Robertson – hintz – rantanen

    marchment – Duchene – seguin

    benn – Johnston – granlund

    steel – Bourque – dadonov

  2. Sorry joey check out Castillos work on D magazine the other day and Substack. Numbers don’t give the edge to Back over Bourque and neither does the eye test. Notice how much better Bourque looks in the top 9 than on the fourth. It’s not the minority take. Back has no offensive creativity or instincts and offers no true physical presence despite his measurements

  3. The Cici numbers don’t surprise anyone. It’s Lindell and Hankappaa 2. Something.
Harley is excelling despite an inferior righty on shotgun. I don’t see the benefit of stacking the top pair with 4 and 55. Harley has shown over a year he drives his own pair same as Miro. Put them both on a separate pair and that guarantees you’re not stressing over having 2/3 of your D pairs that can’t effectively breakout with the puck or fail to move the puck up to the forwards.
Put Miro with bieschel. The kid is not gonna receive security or confidence with any of the righty gremlins we have. Miro can skate and the kid can’t play a bit more grounded and stop getting exposed.
    So this :

    Harley Llbushkin
    Bieschel Heiskanen
    Lindell Dumba

  4. Dallas, for the first time since the first week of the season controls their own destiny for top seed in the West! If they win all of the rest of their games in regulation then WPG can not take the first seed! Regulation Wins is the 1st tie breaker and they would have that by 1 over WPG assuming both teams win the rest of their games except DAL beating WPG in regulation. Obviously it's highly unlikely that both teams win the rest of their games, but at least DAL is finally in the driver's seat!

  5. so Joey , I'm scared of colorado, but i still think dallas has the edge in goaltending , and our forward group has more depth. it would be like when we drew the golden nights last year. I still like our chances, but def would thank the hockey gods if we can get the wild or flames in a first round series..

  6. This show should change its name to locked on avs. You give them more praise then the stars everyday. They're better than us but their record isn't better and they needed to rebuild their entire roster mid-season but yeah they're going to beat the stars who torched them in 6 last year. It doesn't even make sense. The avs just lost to calgary for goodness sake. They're a one line team, we would beat them in 5 with or without miro

  7. I believe the Mikko deal fell in our lap at a time when Nill was putting together something to strengthen the back end. In Jims words, you don’t turn away a “generational talent” when he’s standing in front of you. That said, we’re left with hoping our current back end can find its groove without #4. We can do it, but Jake will need to party like it’s 1999. 🕺

  8. I don’t care if you play Colorado first or third or whenever you gotta beat them sometime so I’d rather get knocked out in the first round and be done with it and make it to the championship again and get sucked in that

  9. so much doom and gloom in dallas miro and seguin's return is gonna put this team on another level and we forget that were gonna have playoff Hintz and Rantanen and Otter can definitely steal you a game or 2 each series i have no doubt that we will be coming out on top this year in the west

  10. I am not worried about Benn. Benn will bring the pain and points in the playoffs. If Ott is off God oh mighty you have to pull him. Otter let's in too many on his bad days. The Aves are now having some mental issues so pull back on that Joey

  11. Mav can go. He’s dead weight. Oskar Back is a better player. More of a presence. He’s reliable. He can stay upright on his skates. Bourqe is useless. Should’ve traded him instead of Stanky. But he’s not produced the way stanky did. So that’s why he’s still here. He can go at any time. He’s meh…

  12. Robertson hintz RANTANEN
    Benn Johnston Duchene
    Grandlund MARCHMENT Dadonov
    Blackwell SEGUIN Steele

That should be our four lines in the playoffs what yall think???

I put Seguin on the 4Th line cause they need a playmaker and it better to even up all of our lines that every line has a playmaker or 2

  13. I think Back has earned his spot in a playiff lineup. I know that would bring questions around which 4th liner you kick out, but I think Borque may have to sit out. Maybe Steel. Dadonov has proven himself as well. The real question to me is which defenseman draws out if/when Miro comes back. Ceci?

  14. Honesty, I'm probably in the minority, but I honestly think in a perfect world Bischel would come out of the lineup for Heiskanen. He's good for sure but as of recent he's been a penalty liability. Bischel is great along the boards and can clog up teams trying to use them, but unfortunately we are probably playing the Avalanche, who play a very fast game and work the middle of the ice well, where Lian still struggles.

For me I would try and keep Ceci in the lineup but I know that's challenging with who we have to compliment him. Maybe put Miro with Dumba, then keep the Harley-Ilya and Esa-Ceci pairs together since they aren't playing too terrible. I just unfortunately feel Lian won't do well against an Avs style team and could take too many penalties against a good powerplay.

  15. Granlund has been one of the best forwards for the stars lately. Stellar play, and he has a habit of scoring big goals in big games, cant wait to see him in the playoffs.

  16. Ideal

    Hintz-Rantanen-Robertson
    Seguin-Duchene-Marchment
    Benn-Johnston-Granlund
    Steel-Bourque-Dadonov

    Heiskanen-Harley
    Dumba-Lindell
    Bischel-Ceci

  17. I feel like Dumba has been so much better after coming back from that injury. I wonder if they started letting him be the player he is instead of trying to force him into the player they wanted. He seems like he's done well as a mentor to Bischel too. Never thought I would say this at the beginning of the season, but…I think I like Dumba! 😂
