The NHL Did Not Expect This

Question – What team scares you most heading into the NHL playoffs? Is it the best team in the NHL? That would make sense. For some of you, it’s an entire state? I can see that considering that’s where the defending champs are from. But one team, that no one wants a piece of right now heading into the playoffs, are the St.Louis Blues. Let’s take a deeper look.

  1. author of THE DEATH TAX (and a diehard Blues fan) sez: Sorry, but I'm not buying the hype/falling for the jinx here. While I am, of course, IMMENSELY pleased w/ our current 10-game winning streak and the notion of actually making the playoffs, most of these wins have been against sub-.500 teams (the recent wins vs. Nashville and Detroit were MOST difficult). Parayko was our only defenseman big/strong enough to take a hit and actually carry the puck out of the defensive zone, and in his absence I'm seeing a lot of dump-outs and running around. Also, a playoff team MUST have strong special teams, and ours (esp. our PK; our PP, while improving, has a maddening tendency to pass rather than shoot) are still lacking. Bottom Line: It remains to be seen whether this team is as solid/gritty as the '18-'19 Cup-winning version.

  2. Excellent breakdown! There's a lot of selflessness, playing to strengths with lineup changes, and the buy-in from the players. Coach
this?". They did, it worked, so keep doing it.

I also don't remember seeing a team having fun like this either! Do what you love for a living, and you'll never work a day in your life.

As a Blues fan…I don't care who we get in the First round. You're gonna earn it though!

  3. DAMN YOU JORDAN BINNINGTON, DAMN YOU. Winning the tourney for canada was one thing(thank you), but aiding in the defeat of the 2024-25 canucks I simply cannot stand.

  4. As a Sharks fan just about since the beginning, I never got the opportunity to play more than a couple of pick up games. The way you break down the plays and explain the reason behind the positioning and forethought is really appreciated from someone who can't see these things happening. I played soccer for a looong time and a lot of the positioning and anticipation is the same, but hockey being so much faster and you actually get hit makes it so much better. Again, thank you for the informational and succinct.

  5. Honestly I expected this Blues were going to come back after getting Monty from the Bruins and as a Bruins fan it happened now can the bruins fire Sweeney please.

  6. Yo Hockey Psych! I was hoping you could bring back the old intro you had, I liked it more and it had that cool sound effect. Love the content as always tho.

  7. Jets fan here. I love this video and I have to admire STL. I'll cheer for all the teams that have success as a TEAM. I'm not interested in the teams that have 1 or 2 "star" players and rely on those guys to carry the team. (eg Oilers, Avs). I would much rather cheer for a team where all the guys are working together and they rely on every line.
