Trailing by three goals with 2:21 left in regulation, the Vancouver Canucks scored three times in the final minute of the third period and then won it in overtime, beating the Dallas Stars 6-5 on Tuesday night at American Airlines Center. Mikko Rantanen scored his first home goal as a Star, as Dallas netted three power play goals in the first 28 minutes of the game to open up a 3-0 lead after two periods. (Mason Marchment & Matt Duchene were the other goal scorers). Jake DeBrusk and Victor Mancini each tallied power play goals early in the third period, but then Mavrik Bourque and Mikael Granlund scored 24 seconds apart to build back Dallas’ three-goal advantage. However, Aaty Räty scored with a minute to go and then Pius Suter netted a pair of 6-on-5 extra attacker goals to tie the game and force overtime. After an unsuccessful Canucks 4-on-3 power play in OT, Kiefer Sherwood completed the comeback at 4-on-4. Join the DLLS Stars Post Game Show with Craig Ludwig, Sam Nestler, Owen Newkirk & John Andersen as they break down one of the most outrageous comebacks of the 2024-25 season.

  1. Canucks fan here. I went to the store after the Stars 5th goal. Got home in time for OT. Absolutely shocked. What makes this bad for the Stars was it was against the lowly Canucks not a team like Winnipeg or Colorado

  2. Can you guys just finally admit that it was a huge mistake to not bring in defensemen at the deadline now ??

No way this is a championship caliber team.

  3. I was at the AAC for the game. After the Rantanen empty net goal, I'd guess that about 25% of the fans started filing out of the arena. If they listened to a post-game show when they got to their car, they got a big surprise.

The meltdown didn't happen in the last few minutes. It happened in the 3rd period. The Canucks dominated the 3rd. The Stars spent the entire period struggling to get the puck and usually just chipping it out.

As bad as this loss was, I still think the loss at Carolina was just as bad.

  4. Jets fan here. I normally only watch Jet's games but this year is obviously special so a couple weeks back I thought I'd learn about some potential opposition. The Stars were rolling and catching up to the Jets. So I watched a couple of games, and seeing Dallas win I thought…the second Dallas's goaltending falters they are cooked cuz they give up a ton of chances in their end. So actually, once the comeback from 3-0 to 3-2 occurred, I thought, finally, their goalie isn't rescuing their blunders. Thursday should be interesting against the Jets. My guess is that Dallas is going to be desperate to erase last nights disaster so Jet's might have their hands full.

  5. That game was exactly what they were looking for and showed solid improvements for 58:30 of the game and then a ridiculous unlikely flurry by the Canucks and a terrible collapse by the Stars already struggling defense. The Stars and EVERYONE else thought it was over after the empty net goal the problem was it wasn't and they quit playing in the last 2 minutes and it cost them. That was absolutely a fluke……it's literally never happened in history and most likely never will again. All 5 goals the Canucks scored in the 3rd were with a man advantage so it's not like it was a 5 on 5 collapse.
