How the Best Team in NHL History Fell Apart
In 2023 the Boston Bruins had the best regular season ever with 65 wins and 135 points. Two years later, they’re one of the worst teams in the league. How did things go so wrong so fast? It didn’t end with a playoff loss — that was just the start.

It's the front office and ownership!!!!!!!
Yeah Sweeney suck as player and he sucks as a gm
Hindsight is of course 20/20 :
They let go of THREE Jack Adams coaches (Claude Julien, who had a winning record; Bruce Cassidy who immediately won a Stanley Cup with Vegas; and then Monty) — arguably Neely & Sweeney didn't see as pushing the Bruins over the top, and why the B's stop competing one won't know, but Neely & Sweeney dumped Monty.
Then whoever decided on the goaltending for the 2023 series against Florida …. they had been alternating Sway & Ullmark throughout the season. Then they just go with Ullmark and turns out he's injured. Then they turn to Sway for Game 7.
They went for Sway instead of Ullmark, they didn't try to figure out the window with Krejci and Bergeron (who were thinking the windows was definitely closing as of 2019 — it was mentioned a bit when they lost to the Blues in the Stanley Cup Finals). I am still in the dark around Marchand …
Something happened with Marchand and jim montgomery and they had to make a choice, and they did and then they blamed Brad. I think in one of the parts of the videos you can see a game where montgomery is yelling at the team and brad Marchand you can clearly see him grab the C on his Jersey and say something like, because I'm the captain. This is what's going on, he. Gestured out to the ice with the other hand right before the seven minute mark of the video, it kind of explains a lot to me after seeing it multiple times plus he grabbed him on the bench one game
Their GM (Don Sweeney) is a nutcase. He is the prime reason they suffered this collapse.
Still dont understand what went through Sweeny's mind for that Ullmark trade. Such a weak ass return for a goalie thats going to push the Sens into the playoffs
I think it's all on swayman, he holds out and caused all this drama and can't back his pay with his play, he cooked us for the next decade.
Jacob Brothers
Thinking this team was the best team ever because they got 135 points is the same as thinking $1000 in 2023 is more money than $500 in 1977.
Well it cause of Don Sweeeny and Monty that why we fell apart no wonder the team fired him he cost us that series against Florida by putting an injured Ullmark when he should've put Swayman in there I know Monty got the Blues going again but he better off in St. Louis anyway and Sweeney again ruined the team afterwards he got to go like now sick of that idiot at this point.
Shipping Ullmark was the stupidest thing they could've done imo — he was the better of their two goalies hands down… but I'm also not a Bruins fan, so this is kind of refreshing lol. When was the last time we got MTL, OTT, and TOR in the playoffs?!? 🙌 go Canada eh!
As a wings fan, i think dallas wins it this year
From a Flames fan, I knew that Elias Lindholm contract was going to be ugly. He was incredible for us for many years, but after Johnny and Matthew left, he stopped caring. I know the Bruins fans were hoping for Bergeron lite, but he's dead weight now that he got his big contract.
PS. Can we talk about how incredibly underrated Krejci was?
Best team ever? Edmonton Oilers with Gretzky. Islanders with Gillies, Bossy, and Trotter.
They were not the best team ,stop the crap
Easy answer….. MANAGEMENT. Fire all of them!!!!
Reported for false title
As a rangers fan seeing how we've fallen down bad it makes feel better on the inside that the bruins fall is even worse. 😊
What is going on with this video?Unwatchable hurt my head and my eyes
brutal decline and some of it self-inflicted but how about we pump the brakes on the best team in NHL history comment. for starters, they didn't win the cup that year. now let's talk apples to apples in the regular season. Boston Bruins regular season – 54 Regulation wins, they won 11 extra games in OT (there was no OT when montreal got 132 points). Boston 4-3 in shootouts and 7-2 in OT. adjusting for this their record was 54 wins, 12 losses and 11 ties. Awesome season with 124 points. Montreal had 60 wins, 8 losses and 12 ties for 132 points in an 80 not 82 game season. the prior year montreal had 127 points and the following year 129, all of these seasons are statistically better than boston's supposed best season ever.
and oh yeah they won the cup each of those years. the bruins have slipped but please don't compare that team to the canadiens who won 4 straight, islanders who won 4 straight or Gretzky's oilers….not even close.
With 16 games left we have everybody in the division exactly where we want them to be😂
You love to see it
This feels like the intro to what could have been a great video really dissecting the fall. Instead it's just a recitation of what your viewers already know.
Ullmark was so burnt out that first Florida series he should’ve been pulled by game 5 or 6
As a bruins fan we are finnaly in ours dark age
Blues were the beginning of the end.
Guys I'm sorry, it's because I picked swayman in my fantasy team this year. That's why he sucked 😂
It started with the "Curse of the Seguin." They never should have traded Tyler Seguin for a bucket of pucks.
The reason they didnt win the cup was because, well it is the Bruins, and because J. Montgomery panicked and started switching up his lines too often. Btw, im a life long tortured Bruins fan
kinda hilarious that Jim Montgomery gets picked up and went on a 12 game losing streak with the Blues.
you have to be able to have some sort of plan for when your core eventually retires, Boston didn't
