  1. Acuña is the Mets second baseman.

He continues to hit and find ways on base.

If Nimmo continues to struggle, Mets should consider putting McNeil in left field when he returns and Nimmo to DH.

As for Lindor costing the Mets another game, he eventually needs to find a way to be late season Lindor early in the season.

As Lindor gets older, the Mets may need to consider giving Lindor more consistent off days so he stays fresh.

It’s hard to believe that Lindor is already 31 and I recall in 2011 during Reyes’ age 28 season, he was already experiencing hamstring issues that the Mets had to manage.

Lindor is too valuable to run into the ground.

Yes, there’s value in being pencilled in day in and day out but maintaining his health is more important.

  2. Tomorrow they’re gonna send down Kranick

    Call up Hagenman to start

    After the game IL Siri

This allows them to bring Kranick back up for the game Thursday

    Then send down Hagenman

Then call up a Siri replacement (Azocar, but might not be an outfielder)

Complicated but that’s how they’ll manage it and why the pitched Kranick to the limit today

  3. Tough sloppy L tonight. Day game and a spot start/opener make me nervous for tomorrow. Fingers crossed we can get outta here with the series. LGM!!

  4. Think the 10% mark is a good time for the concerns about the hitting to start to feel real. Lot of guys just not doing it right now. Lindor always starts slow, so whatever, but they need more than just soto and alonso to produce runs.

  5. Ober and Sands left so many meatballs up over the plate. Bad game for everyone except Torrens and Pete. Megill with another tough loss. I think he’s given up 3 ERs in his losses combined

  6. Guys I figured it out. It’s the hair. Lindor took the braids out. He needs to keep those in

  7. This is just the kind of game every team loses in a course of a 162 game season.

That said, I like that Soto and Alonso are powering up together. For the season they just need the guys who aren’t those 2 to not struggle at the same time or what happened with Soto in the Bronx will happen here

  8. Lindor’s last AB was frustrating. Understandable that he has jitters and chases strike 1, but he was thrown 5 consecutive balls after the batter before him walked.

Chased on ball 5 and SO on the only strike delivered in the AB.

  9. I think Mendy should put Vientos back at 2 and move Soto and Pete down a spot, to lengthen the lineup. I get why he wanted to go Lindor, Soto, Alonso right off the bat, but this is why the bs from today annoyed me. What’s the point of showing your hand in the first inning? Soto may just be starting to come out of it hitting -wise, but even so, he’s gotten on base consistently. In an instance where Pete doesn’t come through, Soto’s been left on base a ton already, cause 4-9 has been terrible.

    Lindor

    Vientos

    Soto

    Alonso

    Nimmo

    Marte

    Acuña

    Taylor

    Torrens

Edit: OR, bat Acuña 9th, so you have a double lead off man situation.

  10. Y’all I saw Acuña play CF in Syracuse. He will be fine there. He’s fast as hell, has lots of vert, great hands/glove, and a cannon for an arm. That’s everything you need but some height but he makes up for it with speed and leaping.

  11. Lindor, During The Postgame: Via SNY

“It’s unacceptable what’s happening right now. It’s unacceptable. I gotta be better. It’s not to the standards the Mets have, it’s definitely not to the standard I have for myself. It’s been 2 games already that cost the team”

•Lindor’s a fantastic player, and he also has excellent character. He holds himself accountable for his misplays & always strive to perform at an elite level for the team. He had a rough game and he’s upset with himself; here’s hoping he uses this as motivation, to continue to be the MVP caliber player, that we all love & appreciate

  12. If Marte is a full time DH and not producing they’re better off parting ways, activating Alvarez and having 3 catchers.

Torrens is having a hot start and would let Alvarez slowly ramp up at the DH spot especially with a weak hand. I’d have a longer leash with a slumping Alvarez than what looks like is a no longer productive Marte…

It is early in the season so I can understand if the Mets plan conservatively. So like Siri to IL for Azocar, likely Senger down for Alvarez, Baty down for McNeil.

  13. Per Tim Healey:

“Official: The Mets will call up Justin Hagenman tomorrow, Carlos Mendoza said. Starter is TBD.”

  14. BRAVES-WATCH: The Braves are now 5-12. Since 1985 (40 seasons), there have been 95 teams with 5 wins or fewer in the first 17 games, and only 6 of the 95 have recovered to finish over .500.

Only one of those 95 made the postseason (the 2001 A’s, who wound up 102-60).

However, four teams would have made the postseason under the current “6 teams in from each league” format, had it been in place at the time. (1993 Orioles, 2018 Rays, 1996 Red Sox, and somehow, the 1997 White Sox who were 80-81.)

If you’re wondering, the only Mets team to start this bad in that time frame was the 2011 Mets who started 5-12 and finished 77-85.

  15. The dodgers should be fucking ashamed of themselves on Jackie Robinson day this year. Not celebrated. It’s a joke.

  16. I’m not worried about the offensive players struggling on this team except for Vientos. His swings are more encouraging but even someone as talented as Corbin had a sophomore slump. I just hope it doesn’t go on for too long but it’s definitely possible. And that would create a huge hole in our lineup for someone we were relying on to be himself from last year.
