[TheWARmonger] here’s the single that Xander Bogaerts hit in front of Javy Baez in the first inning today: Just a 25% catch probability! Javy actually had a solid jump (+3.5 above average) – only the best are getting to this one. Lots of ground to cover out there in Detroit, not bad for a new CF.

  1. I could’ve probably updated the title to say Yesterday. No you’re not missing a 10am game lol

  2. Would people really want Baez diving for that ball when there’s 2 on and one out?

  3. Even real time I didn’t feel like Javy played this poorly at all. Sometimes you just get a flare hit and that’s how baseball goes. See Nido’s hit later in the game. Credit to Javy too to make it look close enough to hold the runner from scoring.

  4. Javy gets that if he lays out, but considering the circumstances I’m alright with him letting it drop. I’ll take anything other than Kreidler atp

  5. Of all the plays that javy will butcher on defense this won’t make the top 100

This is just a single to center.

  6. I guess I didn’t pay attention to comments on this play? This was controversial?

  7. I didn’t realize people were down on that play until now. Benetti made the point that it prevented Tatis from scoring, and Tatis is definitely aggressive enough to try. Baez is pretty much known for making similar infield plays, so I’m fairly confident it was intentional.

  8. Javi is good, anyone that knows even a little bit of Tigers ball knows the wind knocked that waaay fuckin down

  9. It’s not just centerfield, it’s center in Comerica which is like the size of Belle Isle

  10. It looks like lack of effort but it definitely wasn’t. This an intentional deliberate play to take the low-risk line of guaranteeing holding the runners on base.. I admit I was also a little irritated when I saw this play because it’s Javy but after I thought about it for a few seconds I agreed with the decision

  11. too bad theres not another angle, looks like he absolutey TOOK OFF after it when it was hit, he still has wheels

  12. I would imagine very few outfielders actually go for that ball. If he dives/slides and it gets past him then you have a slow roller going to the wall and likely an inside the park hr. Good play Javi.

  13. Baez is very important to our teams start. And the players like him. He does everything with a smile. AJ looked so happy when he said that. Haters on this sub just sound ignorant.

  14. I think Javy sucks, but even I watching that didn’t think he played that bad. Is he getting criticized for it or something?
