By no means was Keefe set up for success here, but interesting nonetheless. Overall I'm pretty happy with his performance and how he played the young guys all season. Feels like we didn't really set him up to show any strategy/coaching prowess, so it makes sense guys wouldn't rate him highly, but that's just my opinion. I'm excited for him to work with the young guys next year regardless!

Overall just curious everyone's thoughts!

  1. Players look at record then vote without putting much thought into their vote.

  2. Ya I agree with you, unfortunately Keefe wasn’t really hired to win but to develop. Like you said he has done well playing the young guys but at some point we need a coach to do both. I would love to hire someone from the spurs or okc. They have a great track record of developing basketball players into nba basketball players. With that said I really hope we can invest in a great coach soon to aid our rebuild even more.

  3. I mean, maybe I guess, there are coaches who have done a worse job this season but have bigger track records.

  4. Did they ding him for losing, or for allowing a few too many errant wins down the stretch? 🙃

  5. Mann they’re picking on Chief Keefe 😢 it ain’t his fault we suck lol we’re playing like 5 teenagers

  6. This disrespect is getting old. We suck, we get it.

That said, Keefe does roll out some kooky lineups sometimes, and he gives his players a lot of freedom to fail.

Unseld would have pulled Sarr after every ill-advised three. He wouldn’t have a chance to develop. I like Keefe’s “fail better” philosophy. It’s what this team needs right now.

  7. We can’t measure Keefe’s success as a head coach in Wins/ losses at this point. Player development and team culture is all that matters. The advanced stats from February-April showed a much better team than early in the year.

  8. I love this convo cause of the lack of talent but playing our young players this season was a good thing and I did see progression of the young core

  9. So whats yall opinion on this upcoming draft of wizards adding to the already young core

  10. Two reason why Keefe is definitely not the worst coach in the NBA
    1. The number of minutes played by young guys
    2. A guaranteed at worst top 6 pick

    Dude understood the assignment.

  11. So someone let me know are we hoping he turn out like Daigneault in OKC or yall don’t see that happening to keefe

  12. Weird seeing as we didn’t even have the worst league record.

Id say one of the worst coaches is probably someone who got fired

The true captain of our tank. I don’t dislike Keefe, but he did his part well for this season’s goal of mediocrity.

  14. I remember the season SAS was tanking for Wemby. Coach Pop came out and said that coaching young players is different. There are few Xs and Os. The idea is to play through mistakes, and get a sense of the flow. NBA level Coaching isn’t even possible. Not saying that Keefe is Pop, but isn’t doing it much different than when Pop was in the same situation.

  15. If this was a poll of Wizards players then I’d be concerned but it was players league wide. What does, say, Charlotte’s third string PF know about the job the Wizards coach is doing? I respect The Athletic but this poll is frankly junk.

  16. No one shits on my head coach but me! Jokes aside it’s like everyone else has said, Keefe is here to develop the players and a team identity/culture and nobody actually watches us close enough to see how he actually did a solid job with the rookies so it is what it is.

  17. Justice for Brian, that man is clearly a lame duck coach and he knows it lol

  18. Uh lol. Keefe knew the assignment and did exactly what was expected of him. He gave the players that needed time on the floor plenty of time on the floor. He didn’t fuck with anybody’s confidence; Sarr could have been destroyed after that 0-15 performance in the summer league.

You cannot tell me people who actually watch more than just season W/L would say Keefe is doing worse at his job than Doc Rivers.

  19. I don’t know if this is an unpopular take among Wizards fans, but is it possible that team management has (or ever will) considered hiring Mike Brown?

He did a really good job in Sacramento with the talent he had, and before that, he was the lead assistant in Golden State, where they won multiple rings. Not to mention, he had great seasons with the Cavs and Bron back in the day, so he has quite the resume.

I think Dawkins and Co need to think about it, because while this teams’ problems are just not having enough talent, yet, Brian Keefe doesn’t seem like a long term solution. He’s a good assistant, maybe, but not head coach.
