To be fair to the official, he was likely saying he didn’t see hughes take a highstick from mcdavid. And was even more confused to learn this isn’t canucks/oilers from last year.
I could clearly see what it was watching on tv, no excuse for the refs to not call that blatant obvious high stick cross check to the face!
Before that I was thinking this game was less frustrating than game 1 but this moment changed that

The officiating has been garbage and not just in this game or this series. The nhl, quite frankly, should be embarrassed. It seems the rule book has been thrown out and the hockey we all enjoy watching in the regular season is nowhere to be found
Someone should take out ovi’s last few teeth since cross checking to the face is clearly legal in this series
Refs want their money from the bigger american economy throwing in more cash.
Lets face it, it’s apparent the league does not give a shit about Canadian teams. There’s an obvious bias in the playoffs when a Canadian team faces an American one in officiating. Afterwards, there is a preference given to sun belt teams. The only league in North America that does not give a fuck about their original franchises because they want GrOw ThE gAmE…. and they wonder why ratings are going down and viewers are tuning to different sports.

He couldn’t have been MORE focused on this play if he tried. So at this point it’s straight-up dishonesty, the ref is simply lying.
Just watched a clip of the cross check. You gotta be kidding me at that no call.
Corruption. Ref should be benched for the rest of the playoffs and investigated.
Officials have been told by Bettman that Washington must win the cup this year
I get that playoffs are supposed to be “tough” but believe there is a distinction to be made between “hard” and “stupid”.
All the intent to injure in ways that aren’t even hockey plays (cross checks to face, goalies slashing knees, slew foots etc) needs to be looked at by the dops.
We will reach round two with half the teams injured if this continues for reasons that are complete nonsense.
