Kawhi Leonard took down the Gatorade from his postgame press conference podium yesterday, saying: “Kids don’t need to be drinking that.” Then declined when asked if he wanted his alkaline water on the table instead (media sources: @HoopsChef

  1. Honestly, good for him. I know people are gonna dig up something from his history to claim he’s being a hypocrite, but we need fewer famous people pushing sales on kids. Especially sugar water.

  2. The alkaline water feels like another dime a dozen health shit marketed towards athletes. Like those copper necklaces baseball players used to wear or a dozen other fads.

  3. Alkaline water is bullshit too but I guess it’s better than sugar water

  4. While alkaline water doesn’t do anything (changing the ph of your blood in a meaningful way would literally kill you) I do appreciate the sentiment

  5. Kawhi: “Take those gatorades down…”
*proceeds to pull a can of WD-40 from his pocket*

  6. Reminds me Cristiano Ronaldo hiding coca cola bottles and saying “drink water” 😀

  7. like when ronaldo took down the coke bottle and put up some water. wonder if sales will start to decline

  8. Pushing back against the constant marketing of sugar to kids? I’m on board with this. Good for Kawhi.

  9. Since weirdos are now talking about “alkaline water” or “makes your blood more alkaline”

Normal healthy human blood plasma has a pH balance between 7.35-7.45. It is within that tight range otherwise you have acidosis or alkalosis, both are not desirable.

Black coffee is usually pH of 5.
Orange juice & carbonate water pH 4.

well water can be high in minerals and have a pH of 8 and still be considered suitable for drinking.

Don’t get on the weirdo train about water pH intake. It is not how complex biology involving homeostasis works.

  10. Western Conference is fucked, Kawhi is healthy and saying fun guy shit. You better watch out for the laugh

  11. Yeah he’s not wrong tho Gatorade is not good for you. Fucking melts your teeth too

  12. Gatorade isn’t something the average person needs to drink daily, much less a child. He’s absolutely right.

  13. I remember in high school our track coach hated it when kids brought gatorade to practice. If you had gatorade he’d make you dump out half and refill it with water.

  14. I assume drinking that’s stuff keeps you in top shape and prevents any injuries…

  15. And yet he’s constantly injured. I would stay away from 90% of whatever he says is better for you lol /s

  16. As a physician, Alkaline Water is the biggest scam out there. Just drink tap water which is just as alkaline. Also none of that pH means anything as soon as you drink it.

  17. I wish people would understand that alkaline water does absolutely nothing for you. The moment it gets into your system it’s pH changes to that of your stomach acid.
