Were you surprised Rick Tocchet stepped away from Canucks?

The Canucks announced on Tuesday that Rick Tocchet has decided not to return as head coach for the upcoming season. The 61-year-old Tocchet just completed the final season of a three-year contract, and the team owned a club option for 2025-26, but Vancouver announced last week that they chose not to exercise it. Were you surprised Rick Tocchet stepped away from the Canucks? TSN Canucks reporter Farhan Lalji joins SC with Jay Onrait to discuss.

  1. I'm not surprised at all Canucks management let the miller and petterson situation go on for far to long. Bosser saying he is most likely gone and petterson didn't play didn't improve after the trade Canucks made the wrong decision trading jt miller. As of July 1st petterson no move clause kicks in Canucks are stuck with him.

  2. a few reasons why the canucks are a mess….

*one of only two teams in the nhl without a practice facility, the other being calgary and they'll resolve this by 2028 with their new stadium.

*coaches in this city are like a carousel ride, either they get fired or don't want to resign here.

*aquallini needs to go, i hope fans that go to games bring signs and chant their displeasure with him, or better yet don't goto games at all so he gets the message.

*quinn is as good as gone, there's no way he wants to be here, he wanted toch back…

Quinn on Tocchet: "Hes an amazing coach. Hes been amazing for me and a lot of guys. Thats a guy you want to compete, play for. Last year he won the JackAdams and this year I think hes been even better. Whatever he does its his decision. Obviously Id like to have him back. And I think he knows that."

  3. No, why would Tocchet want to stay?
Canucks management and ownership content building a crappy team.
Trading Bo, JT away… now they say we need a center… what a joke they are.
EP40's soft and has zero heart, the guy could care less about winning.

  4. we are a dumpster fire. Should Allvin and Rutherford choose to retire, they should resign and say they can't work with this ownership team publicly. Really point to the problem.

  5. I believe 3 things came into play , trading Miller, signing Petterson who is a Cancer and Hughes as Captain…. The team can not flourish with a WEAK Captain!!!! Boeser won't resign, Canucks will be even poorer next year..

  6. Frankly, I don’t blame TOCCHET , there are better opportunities out there for him . Myself, I would like to see a change in the top brass . I think the mismanagement goes right to the top. I would never have traded Miller, one of the biggest mistakes in Canuck history. Rutherford was right, he is in an elite group of maybe 5 players in the whole league, including McD, and Dry. Instead he keeps the underachieving , overpaid Swede.

  7. Vancouver is a joke. Quinn Hughes is gonna leave in 2 years – looks like I'm a NJ fan now. Not even gonna watch next year – 11.6m$ paper weight leading the team, what a waste of time.

  8. Vancouver has a black cloud hanging over it and Tocchet knows and can’t pack up fast enough. What a joke the way things played out over last season. And I would bet Hughes is gone after next and Boeser is out this summer. Gonna be a while before that organization is good again and it was brought on from within. Karma still lingering over how they handled the Linden situation 20 years ago.

  9. He wants to leave because its a dumpster fire. Managament cant get players, having Quinn Hughes and not trying to add players was the worst decision theyve ever made. Brock Boeser should have been traded, Petersson should have been traded when he finally had 1 good season instead of resigned for billions, Miller should have been kept, trading OEL and retaining, ndkdofosjsh whatever

  10. Not surprised one bit. Firstly, our country is woke .. and we RE elected an oppressive government that will raise taxes, and continue to pee on the West.Who wants to live in a country where the government takes almost half of what you earned away from you?? Our Dollar is like 72 cents and will fall yet more. So who wants to live in this commie country??

  11. Wife rules the rust. Jeremy Colliton might be back with Canucks. Willander to be signed.Boeser to stay,Deko for youth. Hughes and Sasson and 3rd for Mercer, Nemec,Cotter and 1st rd. Both clubs move FWD.

  12. I have no confidence in Patrick Alvin. How many good players did the Canucks give up on before all this? Even going back a few years to this year, we gave up on Jacob Markstrom, still one of the league's best, Andrei Kuzmenko, now a top line forward in LA, Podkolzin going to Edmonton, Carson Sousy, Anthony Beauvillier in Washington scoring goals, Bo Horvat, a very consistent and stable forward, Ethan Bear, JT Miller, and on and on, so many players doing better elsewhere than they ever did here. Vancouver traded away its future for a short term gain and now, we'll lose Brock Boeser. Toccket saw the writing on the wall. What does he have left to play and win with? Forward Pettersson? He's overrated and will never again be a high scorer in Vancouver at least. They traded all the best and kept all the bums. Great job Patrick.

  13. Tochett style is 2-1 games – recall Arizona. Petey can’t play that way.
Why did he allow the Petey/ Miller saga go on so long. He shld and could have stopped it much earlier
