And yes, the Javi Bayz revenge tour continues. And Casey Mai, five wins already early on this season. It was huge that he was able to go seven innings for the Tigers to have some eighth inning late magic. You got to love it. So, buckle up, dial it in. Your comments are always welcome. And for those that stayed up late, we do appreciate if you’re catching the audio only version, that’s always available for you as well on Locked on Tigers. Everything’s on locked on Tigers now. And if you’re with us over on our locked on Pistons postcast, thanks for pulling the double header with me. Even though our Detroit Pistons were eliminated tonight, but thankfully we’ve got the good vibes from the Detroit Tigers. And how about Glaver Torres? You can’t forget him either because he had three plus hits and you absolutely love that. A solo home run as well. And there’s so much good to get into with this one. So, let’s go ahead and do it right off the jump. It’s our talking about what I’m talking about, what you’re talking about, what everybody’s talking about. This is what you’ll be talking about. It’s Tiger Scenes for real, man. And I know that’s a very, very um generic takeaway from today’s game, but I loved what Andy Dirks and Jason Manetti had to say as the Tigers were putting together that fiveun eighth inning. And you can say they took advantage of maybe some questionable pitching matchups on the other side of things from Angels manager Ron Washington. But the fact of the matter is AJ Hinch is pressing every button right now. This Tigers team is playing with confidence and with a swagger. They don’t care who gets the credit. And when it’s a complimentary form of baseball, when the pitching helps out the hitting, the hitting helps out the pitching, the base running adds to it, and so on and so forth, you’re going to get a 20 and 12 start like you have with this Detroit Tigers team. Now, let’s break down that eighth inning because you talk about a team taking complete control of a game, that’s exactly what this Tigers team did in that eighth inning. And obviously that’s a huge reason why this Tigers team was successful here tonight was that eighth inning. So you talk about setting the table, right? the the way that that eighth inning got started, it was a big big blow to the Angels bullpen who at that time was just taking it felt like they were taking on water because you get the Torres single to begin the the eighth inning. And then you get a new pitcher in for the the Angels and Demmers. Then Riley Green because they tried to go lefty on lefty, which makes sense with Riley Green. And then he draws the walk. So now you got two on with um with nobody out. And Benetti mentioned this, but when you try to play the matchup for just one batter with the lefty on lefty with Riley Green, you set yourself up with this Tigers lineup because now it’s the onslaught of righties where you got Andy Abana singling home um Colt Keith able to score on that one and then the the parade continues. It was the classic example of passing the baton on because um after that uh even though Torque grounded out, you get the McKinstry single to center. Green scores in that and great base running by Zack McKinstry to get to second and then you put the pressure on the opposition. That’s when Dylan Dingler steps to the plate and just smashes the left the home run to left field 409 ft. Three runs come in and the Tigers have broken it open 7 to4. Now, and they talked about this as well, and it’s worth pointing out, a three-run lead, that’s awesome. You absolutely will take that. But to add a little extra insurance because you continue to get to this bullpen um in the ninth inning where you get the Andy Abana single and then the Spencer Tolson uh home run. Um and it should it’s worth pointing out the Abana single scored Colt Keith as well after he he walked. So point all that to say it was a tremendous effort by this Tigers team in the late innings of this one and Casey M deserves a lot of credit because he could have he could have mailed it in. He wasn’t his best tonight but he continued to fight. He continued to battle on the mound. Gave his team a chance to win and look and maybe you know you could say the offense certainly helped him to earn that decision of the win today of course but at the same time five wins is five wins. The Casey Mai comeback season also continues. The sport the Torque Mai and Bayz come revenge tour. I absolutely love it. But let’s get to your comments because that’s what makes this live show fun. We’ve got it free and available for you on the Lockdown Podcast Network. E War is first up. Surprised to learn the game was on channel 2 tonight. Oh, good. It was one of the games on channel 2. Absolutely love that. Offense is clicking on all fours. It’ll be a nice dilemma to see what AJ will do when Rogers returns. Yeah, I think uh I don’t think Neato’s done enough to earn that backup catcher role. Um but it will be interesting if Dingler becomes the everyday catcher. I don’t I don’t know if it’s necessarily that point yet, but tonight certainly a strong case for him. Bill Bob said at least one Detroit team won tonight. Ah yeah, that’s that’s true. I still have my Piston shirt on if you’re watching on YouTube. Man, that was a bummer of an ending. But uh and yeah, great uh pointing out here from the dude Tyler Owens major league debut closes it out for the Tigers and not like a safe situation obviously, but uh pitches the ninth inning and man does he have some hair. It looks like Jesus out there on the mound. Um Super Bowl Von says never a doubt. You love that. And watching the Angels bullpen makes me appreciate ours. Absolutely. I mean that Angel’s bullpen woof. Rufus TCAT says, “So much better than last year. The Angels road trip last year was the low point of 2024.” Man, do I love these guys. Yeah, it was. I remember doing posts after those games. Scratching my head a little bit because uh that was uh brutal. Earn says, “Come back cats for sure.” Demetrius McNeel. After seven innings, Tigers were down by two runs. Then all of a sudden, their magic was activated in the eighth inning and they never looked back. first American League team to reach 20 wins to cap off the day. Yes, I also saw the stat that uh and I know the seasons start a little bit earlier now, but it was the first time in Tigers history that they had amassed 19 wins before May 1st. So, awesome stuff. And they get their 20th win on May 1st and to um I forget whose point it was. I think it was Rufus Tats, the place where they traditionally haven’t played well in um in that stadium uh in Anaheim or I guess Los Angeles, whatever we’re calling it there. But uh the big ones tonight, Jav Bayz, another another solo home run and what a catch in center field. I mean, that’s I think that illustrates well the part of the Java’s improvement is his willingness to take on a new role, do whatever it takes to help this team win and play center field and oh, by the way, play it really well, robbing that home run. Um, and and providing some confidence for Casey Mai. So, all that and plenty more great stuff. And oh yeah, Zach McKinstry, too. Got to mention him, man. There’s a lot of good things to get to on tonight’s locked on Tigers postcast cuz Zack McKinstry once again really good. He got down in that at bat um 02 but still able to fight and battle and and and get an RBI single and then advance it advanced to second with aggressive base running as well. So he was just one for five but had the hit and the RBI. Um and so you’ll take that from Zack McKinstry. So, all in all, just a really productive night from everybody repping the Detroit Tigers and the not the old English D because they’re on the road, but old English D on the cap. How about that? Um, and you just you absolutely love to see it. And M. Higs says, “Demoralizing for the Angels when you get destroyed late in the game like that.” And yeah, they had Kenley Jansen. I just don’t use them because I I I I just think Ron Washington could benefit from the AJ Hinch approach of, you know, your best pitchers in the most important moments. And um they were talking about that how Jansen hasn’t pitched in over a week. It’s just uh uh kind of crazy. So there you go. All right, we are going to take a quick break. Don’t go anywhere. We’re just getting started on a live locked down Tigers postcast. When we come back, I’ll have our turning point, our player of the game, and we’ll continue to take your comments right here on a live locked on Tigers post. Tigers keep it rolling with a win in the first of four against the Angels. 10 to four the final in this one. Now 20 and 12 on the season American League best. And I think also worth noting tonight that this team showed absolutely no sign of wiltering despite being down late in that game. a lot of poise, a lot of um presence of mind to just put together a solid at bat after solid at bat and keep passing the baton on to whoever was next in the lineup to keep the order moving and to knock down the Angels and get the win. All right, let’s go to our turning point. Time to reveal where the game was won or lost. It’s the turning point. The obvious answer is the eighth inning, but I will also add the Jav Bayz catch helped turn this game around. It was just a shot of adrenaline, a jolt to this team that really helped them um start believing and you make plays like that throughout the course of the game and it just adds so much to your, you know, your team’s morale. There’s an extra pep in the step, a little bit more of a boost, all of that. and you start believing one person’s solid at bat leads to another. You got guys drawing walks. All the little things tonight helped contribute to this victory. And I think it’s just it’s in a microcosm example of what this Tigers team is is all about. It’s a perfect representation of what this team can be. All right. Um last qu or a couple of questions here. Um, saw this one grab my attention from Mike Do Doyle. What do you do with Javi when Parker Meadows comes back? Right now, it’s looking like shortstop. And Sweeney might have to uh accept a different role or maybe um pack his bags and and we’ll see though. That will be because he’s still very very young. Um, and so that does become part of the conversation and I think we could all benefit from continuing to see a little bit more from Javi as well. So, um, it’s a good problem to have though, that’s for sure. Um, a lot of these guys that are making meaningful contributions and are impactful players, that’s for sure. All right, it’s our player of the game. This is the locked on player of the game. You know, one that comes to mind even though he didn’t have his best stuff is Casey M. I mean, it’s his fifth win of the season. Seven innings, that’s crucial. He goes seven innings, he does give up the four earned runs. He struck out four and walked two. Um, but I mean the the Dylan Dingler home run is is what turned this game around and and for him to step into that role, three more hits again tonight, three RBI on the night on the three-run shot and uh just did so many things to help this team win and not to mention calling a solid game behind the dish as well. So, um, and Jav Bayas, I mean, the the catch he made there in the I believe it was the bottom of the sixth, um, to keep this game four to two was just so crucial. And I’m I’m watching the highlight right now. He just goes up and takes the home run away. I mean, my goodness, what a specimen. What an athlete. All great stuff on the program tonight. So, the Tigers get the win over the Los Angeles Angels 10 to4 the final in this one. Thanks as always for staying up late with us. And even though the Pistons were defeated and eliminated tonight, the Tigers provide a good feeling before we all head out to bed. Or maybe you’re catching this the next day and it’s a good reminder that the Tigers are playing a great brand of baseball. Thanks as always for tuning in and have a wonderful rest of your evening.
