Detroit Lions Free Agent Targets for 2025 Revealed!

[Music] In today’s video, we’re talking about free agents that the Detroit Lions could look to sign after the 2025 NFL draft. Not all positions on this team is 100% filled, right? You still got some issues at depth there for this team. You look at I I would say predominantly obviously the defense. We need to look at just depth. When we’re talking about starters, not necessarily. This team is pretty sound right now. The Detroit Lions have a lot of cap space. They get the third most cap space right now in the NFL at 42.8 million. Now, it doesn’t mean that they’re going to go around and sign everybody, right? We have big contracts that we are looking to do extensions with. Aiden Hutchinson being one. So, just be understanding of that fact. Again, the roster is not filled. Brad Holmes is all about turning every rock. We have done this. This has been happening for years now. So, we fully expect here that they’ll sign players, not necessarily big- time name starters. Well, it could be at least decent names that’s on the free agent market. Now, I got to say this, it was quite difficult to find free agents for the Lions to sign. So, I do have five that I have on here. Um, I thought about doing six, but I’ve I’ve dropped one down to five. I just think that’s I want to be the most realistic of all of the possibilities. The Lions free agent that it’s in the free agent market. The Lions depth is really good right now. So, it’s really difficult to to find a legit starter. So, this is predominantly depth. And I stayed with only two positions because when I went through the whole depth chart, I got to say there’s really only two positions that I think the Lions could look to add. We were talking about free agents and depth. And we’re talking about depth about players who will actually make the 53, right? We’re not talking about depth for the 90man roster. Before we get started though, I want you guys to subscribe to the channel. We’re doing a subscribe battle now. The Cowboys report has added 2,451 new subscribers this month and I have added butt cheeks. Not much at all. So, go ahead and let’s let’s get this battle going on because I already know I’m going to lose, but at least let’s have some fun. Get me out of the cheeks column. Let’s go ahead and start with the first free agent that the Detroit Lions could look to sign. And I think going safety Justin Simmons was an option here. Why is that? We’re really good at all of the depth at the safety position. We drafted a safety right right at the bottom of the draft. We got two great starters, but if the Lions really wanted to have a complete complete complete roster, I think they could add another safety. Justice Simmons 62202 from uh Boston College. He’s played in multiple teams. Denver Broncos mainly being the big one. He’s still got a I think he’s still got some juice left in the tank, but he would have to do it for a backup role. What did he do last year? 36 solo, zero force fumbles, two interceptions, seven pass defense. He’s still a high quality grade player, but he’d have to be a backup in this role. And I don’t know if that’s something he would be willing to do. I’m sure he can look at other teams right now and see if he has more of an option of playing because he’s not going to get a ton of playing time in Detroit unless there is an injury. Now, this list is right now, right? If there is an injury that happens at training camp or something, obviously you can change, but right now we’re just going with who’s on the market for right now. And Justin Simmons, that would be a great signing for a free agent sign. Again, he’s not like he used to be, but we’re talking about depth here. And that would boost the depth significantly. I think he can bring he can bring an attitude to this team. And he’s also a veteran. We got some young players. Kirby Joseph obviously veteran. Brian Branch is a veteran, but they’re a little bit younger players. You could bring in Justin Simmons if they wanted to have an option to get a little bit better uh age. Oh, I’m talking about not youth, but age in the secondary. Next player on my list I got is Justin Julian Blackman, sorry, out of Indianapolis Colts. He is a younger player, right? He’s a player that’s I think it’d be a little bit more difficult for him to sign because of what he um is his age and what he has done for the Indianapolis Colts there. 6′ 202 from Utah. He’s only 26 years old and I think that’s what makes him appealing right now to other squads or and especially for him is is his youth. So I he could be a guy that the Lions could add as our number three. That would be solid. And yes, he’s a veteran. He’s not too old. So, this could be a nice option if they wanted to go that route. What he do last year? 60. Two solo tackles, zero force, for almost three interceptions, and four pass defense. He would be a great addition to the Lions secondary. He would be, but I think this one would be the the most unrealistic if the Lions were going to go with the safety position because of his age, and he probably can jump on another team, have more opportunities to play, and make more money. Remember, free agents are free agents right now because some of them actually wanted to be free agents, just waiting until after the draft for what other teams do so they can maximize their profit and how much they make for that specific team. But I tell you what, if the Lions could bring him on the roster, Kirby Joseph, Brian Branch, Julian Blackman, Dan, we just picked up in in the draft. That would be a hell of a one, two, three, four. It would be absolutely ridiculous for this team, but we’ll see. Again, we’re trying to do a sub battle. So, right now, I am losing the battle with the account of cheeks of subs, and the Cowboys report has put up 2,451 this month. Subscribe to help me out. Another safety have in this list. I think if the Lions were to do a complete complete complete backup, it’d be Quandre Diggs. This is somebody I think that the Lions could sign because he’s not going to be getting a a starting position at all. Now, we love Quandre Digs in Detroit when he was at his top notchotch, right? He’s not the same like he was with the Lions or with the Seattle Seahawks. 597. He would absolutely be a backup safety. We’re talking complete and utter backup and it would be a cheap deal for the Lions to get him. So, if they’re looking cheap, this is a great spot. Why is that? He only had 35 soul tackles last year being a complete backup. And again, it’s not bad to get a backup because this list is predominantly backup. Now, we’re going to get into the edge position next. There’s two players that I’m going to look at edge, but for safety, we’re not needing to get the man at all. We just need to get a man to back up the man. I’m just a guy playing a guy being a guy, right? So, this wouldn’t be the best option, but I I’m if they’re going for depth, I’m not going to be buttth hurt about it at all. It’d be a super cheap option. And the Lions could build a little bit depth there, but they may just want to stay young at this point. you talking about Quandre Diggs because his his game has fell off a little bit. So, I could see a situation where they’re just, you know what, we’re just go with Jackson, right? So, um it’s a option though. Let’s go ahead and jump to the edge position. I got two players here that are free agents that I think the Lions could sign. I think we’re going to go with the most realistic option, the one that we all think that potentially could happen. Now, we’ve heard rumors that the Chicago Bears likes this player and may want to attempt to sign him, but that’s Zidarius Smith, who we released this off season. Zidarius Smith makes the absolute most sense for this team. He does. We already know. We traded for him last year. We got the size. He fit well. You look what he did last year between the Lions and the Browns. nine sacks, 22 solo, great leader. He was a guy that was really good for the locker room. He wants to be here. It’s not going to cost a lot of money and he’s still productive. There’s only one question I’m asking. Why isn’t he on the team yet? Sign him. We have the money. We have a ton of money. And it’s just going to be a one-year deal. It’s not going to do anything for this year to bring in Zidarius Smith. It’s a chump change and there’s a good possibility when we release Graham Glasgow before we hit the 53man roster, saving us even more money. If you’re if if you really want this team to be complete, in my opinion, you just need to sign one position, one player at one position group. That is the edge position. The defensive tackle position stacked. Tyreek Williams, El McNeel, Levi Muzur, DJ Reer, linebacker Alex Analone, Jack Campbell, Derek Barnes, Malcolm Rodriguez, Steuart Grant. We got really good depth there. The secondary pretty dang good. Terry Arnold, DJ Reed, Amique Robertson, and Raikstraw. Safety is amazing. Kirby Joseph, Brian Branch, best safety group in football. Offensive line, guard, tackle, stacked. Quarterback, great. Running back room, amazing. Wide receiver room, outstanding. It’s just the edge position that is left. That is it. Will the Lions sign him? We shall see. Again, subscribe to the channel because I’m getting smacked by the Cowboys report and Tom Downey. He’s got a lot of subs. Last player that I have on my list here, I’m going to go with Matthew Judah on Edge. Free agent. Played primarily with the New England Patriots. Did a stint there with the Atlanta Falcons. 6’4 275 from GVSU. He would be coming back home. He has been connected to the Lions for the last two years of free agency. Is 25 soul tackles, five and a half sacks, one interception. Why not if you cannot get Z back? Matthew Judon could be a solid option too. I just don’t trust Marcus Davenport. I don’t. And since I don’t trust Davenport, Judon or Smith would be a nice option for Lions if they wanted to get another player in pass rush. Just one more. We got a spot open on the roster. There’s no need not to do this. Smith or Judon makes all the sense in the world. Smith the most. Judon the second most. We need pass rush. He’s on the market. Second best option in my opinion is getting Judon. But this one of these guys I think would fill out the roster. Now look, the Lions may not go that route. They could wait till other teams cut down to the 53man roster to add some players. That’s possible for sure. probable um just depending what position but the Lions are really good right now with the ro the roster is stacked so it’s not much that they need one or two players and this thing would be good to go in my opinion with that said folks adios

  1. A vet like Smith probably isnt in a hurry to sign. Could very well want to skip the off season programs

  2. I think it would help the channel more if Micro commented back on peoples comments here or there like he used to. Might help the page engagement.
