Game 6 Post-Game Press Conference: Cade Cunningham | Pistons vs Knicks | 05.01.25
>> KATE, OVER HERE TO YOUR RIGHT. IN THE IMMEDIATE AFTERMATH, WHAT EMOTIONS ARE YOU FEELING AND WHAT WILL STICK WITH YOU FROM THIS SERIES? >> THE IMMEDIATE ONE IS DISAPPOINTMENT. WE FELT GOOD ABOUT THE SERIES, SO YOU KNOW, TO NOT PULL IT OUT HURTS. BUT DEFINITELY WILL STICK WITH US THROUGHOUT THE SUMMER. MOONDOG. THAT FEELING WILL STICK WITH US THROUGHOUT THE SUMMER AND OUR WORKOUTS AND CONVERSATIONS AND EVERYTHING. WE’LL BE BACK AND BETTER. >> GUEYE TEAM WAS UP SEVEN, OBVIOUSLY LATE. WHAT WAS TOUGH WITH THE KNICKS DOWN THE STRETCH THAT MADE IT DIFFICULT TO CLOSE THIS ONE OUT. >> I MEAN, THEY MADE A COUPLE TOUGH SHOTS ALONG WITH GAVE THEM SOME SECOND CHANCES. THAT WAS, YOU KNOW, NOT JUST JUST NOT COMING UP WITH THE BALL. AND THEN YOU KNOW WE MISSED SOME SHOTS. SO ALL OF THOSE THINGS ALLOWED THEM TO GET BACK IN IT. AND THEN OBVIOUSLY A BIG SHOT THEM. >> COMING INTO THE SERIES THERE WAS A LOT OF TALK ABOUT, YOU KNOW, THIS TEAM NOT HAVING PLAYOFF EXPERIENCE BEING YOUNG. BUT YOU KNOW IT GOES SIX I MEAN EVERY SINGLE GAME WAS INCREDIBLY CLOSE. DID THIS FEEL LIKE A YOUNG TEAM TO YOU JUST THROUGH THE SERIES COMPARED TO BEFORE. AND I GUESS HOW MUCH DID YOU FEEL LIKE THIS TEAM GREW UP AND MATURE AS THE SERIES WENT ON? >> YOU SAID, DID WE FEEL LIKE, DID I FEEL LIKE WE WERE A YOUNG TEAM? >> YEAH. DID YOU FEEL LIKE THIS WAS AN INEXPERIENCED TEAM, JUST BASED ON THE WAY YOU GUYS WERE ABLE TO MAKE EVERY SINGLE GAME CLOSE AND COMPETE AGAINST A THREE SEED? >> WE WERE PLAYING THE SAME BRAND OF BASKETBALL. SO I THINK, YOU KNOW, IT WASN’T LIKE WE WERE DOING ANYTHING NEW. WE HAD EXPERIENCE PLAYING LIKE THAT. IT WAS JUST, YOU KNOW, LITTLE, LITTLE THINGS THAT GOT AWAY FROM US, BALL NOT BOUNCING OUR WAY AND THEN US JUST NOT EXECUTING CERTAIN DETAILS THAT WE WANTED TO EXECUTE. SO I THOUGHT IT WAS A GREAT EXPERIENCE FOR US AS A YOUNG TEAM. I DIDN’T FEEL LIKE WE WERE TOO INEXPERIENCED TO WIN THAT SERIES THOUGH. >> OKAY, WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PLAYOFF AND REGULAR SEASON BASKETBALL? JUST FROM ACTUALLY GOING THROUGH IT AND EXPERIENCING WHAT’S WHAT’S THE BIGGEST DIFFERENCE? >> I’D SAY THE PHYSICALITY IS UP AND JUST THE ATTENTION TO DETAIL. EVERY, EVERY POSSESSION MEANS A LOT MORE. AND POSTSEASON AND REGULAR SEASON. SO, YOU KNOW, YOU JUST HAVE TO DO EVERYTHING STRONGER, FASTER AND A LITTLE MORE TOGETHER. >> OKAY. IT’S THE THIRD COACH, YOU KNOW, IN YOUR CAREER THUS FAR. KIND OF TALK ABOUT THE IMPACT AND THE LEADERSHIP OF JB BICKERSTAFF GOING ON THIS RIDE INTO THE POSTSEASON. >> MAN, HE’S BEEN HE’S BEEN AMAZING. HE’S DONE SO MANY THINGS. YOU KNOW OBVIOUSLY HIS ZANOS PUTTING US IN THE RIGHT POSITIONS. ALLOWING US TO PLAY TO OUR STRENGTHS HAS BEEN, YOU KNOW, IS WHAT ALLOWED US TO HAVE THE YEAR THAT WE HAD. BUT THE WAY THAT HE INSPIRED US EVERY DAY, THE WAY THAT HE PUSHED US, I MEAN, I’VE NEVER BEEN A PART OF ANYTHING LIKE THAT. A GROUP THAT WAS SO WILLING TO BUY IN. SO IT MEANT HE MEANS A LOT TO THE WHOLE GROUP. YOU KNOW, WE WANTED TO PLAY HARD FOR HIM EVERY NIGHT. WE WANTED TO SUCCEED FOR HIM EVERY NIGHT. SO I COULDN’T ASK FOR NOTHING BETTER THAN THAT. A COACH LIKE THAT, THAT THAT BELIEVES IN YOU, THAT PUSHES YOU AT THE SAME TIME. AND IT’S ALSO, YOU KNOW, HAS BASKETBALL GENIUS WHERE HE CAN MAKE PLAYS AND GET YOU POINTS ON HIS OWN. >> KENNARD OBVIOUSLY NOT THE OUTCOME YOU WANTED, BUT YOU INDIVIDUALLY HAD AN ALL STAR SEASON. BEES JUST MENTIONED THIS WAS THE CLOSEST TEAM HE’D BEEN A PART OF AND HIS TIME IN THE LEAGUE. JB MENTIONED JUST HOW HE COULDN’T HAVE BEEN MORE PROUD OF YOU. WHAT INDIVIDUALLY WOULD YOU SAY YOU’RE MOST PROUD OF THIS SEASON? >> I’D SAY THE JUMP AND LEADING THE TEAM. I THINK THAT’S THE MAIN THING. YOU KNOW, HELPING MY TEAMMATES SUCCEED. THAT’S THE THING I GET THE MOST JOY FROM. I THINK I DID THE BEST JOB I HAVE SINCE I’VE BEEN IN THE NBA. WITH THAT. AS FAR AS GETTING GUYS IN THE RIGHT POSITION, GETTING THEM THE BALL IN THEIR SPOTS ON TIME, ALLOWING THEM TO DO THEIR THING. SO THAT’S WHAT I’M MOST PROUD OF THIS YEAR IS, IS THE WAY THAT I’VE TAKEN A STEP IN THAT. AND I THINK, YOU KNOW, THAT’S IT’S ONLY GOING TO GET BETTER. I STILL GOT A LOT OF WORK TO DO THIS SUMMER. >> OKAY. YOU SAID AFTER GAME FOUR THAT YOU WERE LEARNING MORE IN THE FOUR GAMES OF THE PLAYOFFS, AND YOU WERE LEARNED IN THE WHOLE REGULAR SEASON. NOW THAT YOU’VE DONE SIX AND IT’S BEEN A LOSS, WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED THE MOST THAT WILL BE APPLIED TO MAKE SURE THAT NEXT YEAR THIS TEAM GOES FURTHER THAN THE FIRST ROUND, YOU KNOW AND ISN’T SATISFIED. YOU KNOW, JUST MAKING THE PLAYOFFS. WHAT’S SOME OF THOSE LITTLE LESSONS THAT YOU LEARNED FROM THIS EXPERIENCE? >> I’VE LEARNED A LOT, SO I’D HATE TO DOWNPLAY, YOU KNOW, SOMETHING. I MEAN, THERE’S A LOT OF THINGS THAT I FEEL LIKE I FEEL LIKE JUST THE ATTENTION TO DETAIL, HOW MUCH EACH POSSESSION MATTERS IS THE MAIN THING. SO MANY TIMES, YOU KNOW, I HAVE A TURNOVER AND I JUST WISH I COULD GET THAT PLAY BACK, THINGS LIKE THAT. YOU KNOW, THOSE ARE THOSE ARE THE ONES THAT, YOU KNOW, YOU JUST CAN’T GET BACK AND PLAYOFF BASKETBALL. SO BUT THERE’S SO MANY THINGS AND, AND A LOT OF THEM HAS TO DO WITH OUR SYSTEM AND OUR PERSONNEL AND WAYS THAT, YOU KNOW, WE CAN SUCCEED. BUT I THINK THAT’S THE MAIN THING IS JUST, YOU KNOW, MAKING SURE THAT EVERY PLAY PUT YOUR BEST FOOT FORWARD. ONE MORE. >> CADE, YOU GUYS WON. I KNOW IT STINGS RIGHT NOW, BUT YOU GUYS WON 14 GAMES LAST YEAR. AND HERE YOU ARE IN A COMPETITIVE FIRST ROUND SERIES. WHAT DO YOU FEEL LIKE YOU PROVED TO THE REST OF THE LEAGUE COLLECTIVELY? BUT ALSO WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU PROVED TO YOURSELVES THIS SEASON? >> YEAH, WE PROVED TO OURSELVES THAT WHAT WE HAVE IN THE ROOM WORKS AND CAN BE VERY SUCCESSFUL IN THE NBA. I THINK AT THE SAME TIME WE PROVED THAT TO THE REST OF THE LEAGUE AS WELL. YOU KNOW THAT WHEN THEY COME PLAY DETROIT, IT’S GOING TO BE A DOG FIGHT AND YOU’RE GOING TO HAVE TO PLAY THE WHOLE 48. IF YOU GET UP EARLY ON, WE’RE GOING TO FIND OUR WAY BACK INTO THE GAME AND GIVE OURSELVES A SHOT TO WIN EVERY NIGHT. SO, YOU KNOW, I THINK THAT’S THE THING THAT THE WHOLE LEAGUE IS TAKING NOTICE TO. AND, YOU KNOW, JUST THE BELIEF IN THE ROOM AND THE LOCKER ROOM HAS GROWN

LOTS of decisions for Detroit…upcoming
Thanks for a great season after years of hurt β€πβ€οΈπ. Locked in for next season ππΎπ.
Bounce back season loading. Hope they surround him w a better crew. Next year will be his next evolution. Proud of this young team. Higher hopes for next season
Cade doesnβt have that killer instinct yet. Heβs young and will learn from this. Experience was the difference. NYK are playoff battle tested and it showed down the stretch of games. Pistons will be back and better going forward
Im a lakers fan but i like to keep up with other teams as well i deadass remember when Detroit ended their losing streak of 28 games last year and it honestly felt like the pistons had to go through that to get where they are now. And look at this team man yβall have such great fans especially the ones that endured that losing streak . Yβall will be back and will be better next season. Yall have the best NBA story of redemption!
Knicks fan here. Iβm so proud of our team for beating such a tough and relentless pistons team. Cade is clear cut NBA superstar and will be a menace for years to come. Iβm super excited for the pistons and what they have to offer in the future. Until then Go Knicks.
If Ivey was there he taking that team to game 7.
If the refs didn't screw my Pistons, it'll be going to game7.
We're disappointed too! Turnovers, Turnovers, Turnovers! It's happened All Season and is definitely something the coaching staff needs at address!
Showing my support from Australia. DEEEETROOOITTT BASKETBALL
Detroit fans what now ?? π€£
Choked. Pistons gave this series away. Can't close out games. Should've won 5 of the 6 games if we're honest.
JB's coaching shortcomings were on full display and Cade's lack of clutch gene closely followed. Has to improve on ball security/decision making and end of game scenarios. Good season tho. Unfortunately it shouldn't be over.
Would've loved to see a healthy Beef Stew and Ivey in this series. Definitely a different outcome even tho the Stones should've still won it without them.
Big fan. Bickerstaff should have never called that 4th quarter time out at the 3 minute. Pistons were on a run, Knicks had no timeouts and exhausted. So he calls timeout gives them a breather, then proceeds to challenge a 1 pt play, giving them even more of a breather. Thatβs when the stones lost
Was a huge improvement since last year, I can't say enough thx for you guys
The ending was unlucky, imo the experience won the Knicks this round.
Team is mostly young though and you really have something special, keep it up!
Not a star only a hype.
Yall made us proud!
Next season, fellas. I wanna see that first series win with all the guys who were forged in the flames of 23-24 having played for good minutes
I'm proud of this team.. show a lot of promise for future. Cade has to step up though..he is the leader of the team and at times..he seems to drift mentally and way to many turnovers. I'd like to see a little more energy and tenacity from him and I think the team will go far. He is the engine.
Moron Piston fans should keep on dissing Brunson. How many games did you win at home in this series? 0 0 0
Honest , real and introspective . What heβs most proud of is making his teammates better. Thatβs leadership . Cade, we believe in you. Keep working. Go Pistons
JB should have never taken ausar out of the game late in the 4th when we went on a 21 to 2 run. Thats why we lost.
I am proud of what Detroit did this year but if they want to take a step forward next year, they need to upgrade their roster in 3 areas.
(1) POINT GUARD -Cade Cunningham is very good from a statistical standpoint but his high volume ball handling and dribbling leads to too many low efficiency games with turnovers and poor shooting.
Detroit needs a leader to run the offense, play Cade Cunningham off the ball and be the ball handler WHEN the point guard goes to the bench.
(2) PERIMETER SHOOTERS-this was a glaring weakness in this series.
I'm sorry, but I have watched Tim Hardaway Jr since Michigan and in his well traveled NBA career and if he can't make wide open shots, he is a liability when on the floor.
Detroit needs to add at least 2 guys that can space and hit shots while working all summer developing jumpers for Ausar Thompson and Ron Holland.
With these 2 guys, Thompson is a more explosive and athletic John Salley, capable of scoring while Holland has the attitude of Rick Mahorn and the skills of an athletic ML Carr.
(3) POST PLAY on both ends-Detroit needs a reliable inside scorer to compliment Tobias Harris and they did a low post defender to compliment Jalen Duren.
Isaish Stewart is not the answer on either end because he doesn't give you offense and he spends too much time committing dumb obvious fouls
Detroit should consider trading Stewart, THJ and possibly Marcus Sasser since they don't use him to fill these needs..
Cade is the cream of the crop . Aces across the board. Knick fan
Thank you Detroit for bringing some grit out of my Knicks. Been waiting all year for it.
Please work on your turnovers
Cade is my favorite rising star. Heβs such a fun player to watch. Love his brand of basketball. No flopping, no constant crying about fouls, calm and collected, great leader. Perfect franchise player to build around.
Cade is our boy
Cade is such a beast and proud of how these dudes fought their way. Knicks will be better for it. Pistons will definitely be better for it. But Cade is a bonafide superstar and loved by his guys.
Knicks will beat the Celtics. Battle tested and prepβd.
Weβll be back and Cade will be even better.
Knicks fan here, Cade is a helluva player and has a mature attitude for the game. This is definitely a learning experience for him, his first playoff appearance, and a brutal physical one at that…good series Detroit.
this guy choked big time lol
this boy a chocker
Excited to see what comes next with Cade at the helm.
Yeah yeah , we know you sold Cade we get it , and we also know it was know reason for JB to sub out Ausar when we had all the momentum and a 5 point lead.

Cade , if every possession means a lot more why you jacking up threes than lol π we know the Pistons had the better team but Vegas , politics and the nba wasnβt going for it !
