uh and uh to you know the uh the composition I guess even the presence of mind for like working rival hey like yeah keep our heads we got to keep for sure but just so you know anybody that that thinks they’re going to stop car if chose to do something you’re probably not so uh nice intention for sure I’m not sure what they would have done to uh but thankfully nothing nothing got out of there so when Ron Ron Ka the the chief here came to me and said uh that they were going to issue warnings. I just asked them why. Um and essentially it’s because when the bench is clear, it just elevates it uh some of the animosity amongst the team. They just they just end it there. And it doesn’t mean that when guys get hit, somebody has to go, but they’re going to judge intent at that point now uh a little more strictly. Um but he said he didn’t have a choice and that’s his way to chase just for a sec. last night that was a big moment you put him in. Um, when do you kind of figure out that a guy can handle that? How do you Well, I think first off I believe before I see it. So, in general, that’s the way I operate. These guys are up here for a reason and you can’t be up here for free. Like, you can’t you can’t always have a soft landing or an easy spot. You can have a specific spot, but eventually it’s going to come up to where you have to uh to do your part. And he’s up here to get right-handed hitters out. there’s a large pocket there, whether it’s a five- run game, a one-run game, a tie game, a down game. Uh, and so, but over time, we’re all going to find out how does he respond? How does he not, you know, how does he do? Yes. But more importantly, how does he go about it and what his reactions are? I learn more after the fact than I do necessarily during during the competition is going to take care of himself afterwards. You know, how fast is his mind working? What did he what did he feel? What did he see? What’s the feedback he’s giving Fet? Uh those all little pieces of information that help make future decisions uh based on how and control the situation that they’re in. So uh I watch everything and I I’m going to I’m going to believe before I see it and because they’ve earned the right to get here and we’re going to use our 26-man roster. Uh hopefully that instills confidence that the next time someone’s name’s called, they can tell them like, “Hey, listen, you’re going to get used. You’re not going to get buried in the bench or in the bullpen. Um you’re here to play.” And that was Tiger manager AJ Hinch. Stick around here on the Tigers pregame show around the league coming up next. The plans for the Coma Hatch Detroit contest by Techtown have been submitted and many dreams are alive. [Applause] Now back to the Metro Detroit Buick GMC dealers broadcast booth from the field brought to you by Meyer, official partner of the Detroit Tigers. Good evening, Tiger fans. This is Bobby Scales with the from the field report here ahead of game three here in Anaheim. here with Angel Skipper Ron Washington. Wash, appreciate you being on with us today. Well, I appreciate you having me. Anytime we can talk baseball, I’m available. I love it. So, we want to talk about you. We We’ll get to the managerial, the coaching stuff first. Obviously, you made a tremendous mark in the game, but it all started in July of 1970 when you signed your first professional contract. You got to the big leagues. You played for a long time. Wash, I want to ask you how it started. It took you a minute to get to the big leagues. took you a little bit more of time to establish yourself as a major league player. What were your reflections of of just your playing career? Well, it all started uh with the Kansas City Royals Baseball Academy. Um it was a baseball school. We learned our baseball on the chalkboard and then we took it from the chalkboard to the field and we was held accountable as 16 17 year olds for whatever you did between those lines. And that’s something that stuck with me throughout my career and I became a fundamental uh fanatic. And um but that’s how my career started. I signed out of a trial camp 156 kids and I was the only kid out 156 that signed. And when I arrived in Sarasota, um we got off a plane. It was about 30 of us. And I met a man by the name of Buzzy Keller who ended up being my rookie league manager. And his first statement was, um, you guys got one foot on the ground and one foot on one step of this airplane. And I was sitting next to a guy from Detroit and he said, what is he talking about? He said, if your game isn’t tight, he going to send you back to Detroit. And that’s listen, that’s what it was. You got you you got to perform or you go home. And that’s in this this game is tough and it’s brutal. And it’s six 16 17 years old. I mean, did that did that shake your mindset or what what did that do to you? Did Did that harden you or what? How did how did it make you feel? Well, it didn’t make me feel anyway because he wasn’t talking to me. Right. And now that you brought that up, the next statement was Buzzy Keller say, “What are you guys talking about?” He said that he didn’t understand what you meant by one foot on the ground and one foot on a plane. And I told him and I told him that you wasn’t talking to me because I can play. That’s right. And he said, “Where you from? You a little cocky somebody.” I said, “No, I can play baseball.” I was from New Orleans. cuz I came out of a trial camp of 156 kids and I was the only one. So that makes me bad. There you go. So you had that confidence out the gate and it carried on. You got to the big leagues in September of 1977, but then it took you a little while and you had to have had a few stops along the way to reestablish yourself as a as a full-time major league player. Talk about that. You got your taste, then you had to go back and then what are the things that you learned on that journey back to the big leagues? Well, what took me a minute to get back to the big leagues and get my 10 years in was in 1976, I I told my uh ACL. And at the time before I told my ACL, I was in TripleA with the Dodgers. And um I was a pretty good player. I was about to go to the big leagues until I told my um ACL. And once I told my ACL, that’s that’s why there was a gap in between me in 77 and the time I got back to the big leagues in 1980. Um, I had to pay my way back. Yeah. When I came back from my injury, I was with the Dodgers organization and they had a boatload of players. So, when you came back, you didn’t slot in where you left. You had to go to the back of the line. Right. And I was fortunate enough that when I went to the back of the line, the Minnesota Twins came and calling and I went to the Twins. And the next year after I went to the Twins, I went to the Twins in ‘ 81. I went to the big leagues. And then 82 was my first full year in the big leagues. But from across the way, you know, it’s business. We got we got business to handle. You got this to handle from Detroit. Wash. We wish you guys the best and I really appreciate you being on with us today. Well, I appreciate you having me. As I said, anytime got a chance to talk some real baseball, which is what this is, I’m willing to be available all the time. I appreciate it. 50 years in the game, a wealth of wisdom. Ron Washington, we appreciate you being on. That’s all for today, gang. We’ll be back with more from the Detroit Tigers Radio Network. Here are the voices of Tigers baseball, Greg Ga and Bobby Scales. And welcome into a chilly and misty evening here in Anaheim. We’re at Angel Stadium. Greg Ga alongside Bobby Scales. It’s the third game of a four-game series partner between the Tigers and the Angels off a thrilling win the last actually last couple of nights for the Tigers. Thrilling victories over the Angels down late come from behind wins and so they look to make it three in a row and win the series tonight. Yeah, big big opportunity to win this series. Continue on that role. Big offense late in both games. They’ll take it how they can get it. Winning the first two games of this this four game set. Keys of the game are brought to you by Rave and Associates. Brought to you by Bell’s Founders and Long Drink. Proudly distributed by Rave Associates. What are your keys tonight, Bobby? Obviously a couple emotional wins. You don’t want that emotional let down tonight, but the Tigers playing good ball. They’re playing good ball, but you’re right, the riding the wave of the emotion. All the big offense late. That’s going to play right into the hands of a guy like Kyle Hendris mix and match doesn’t have dynamic stuff. We’ll get to that in a second. But the Tiger hitters have to maintain their poise, stay in their approaches. They’ve done such a good job of that all year long. They need to continue that night. Pitching match up is brought to you by the your local Toyota dealers. For all the latest offers, go to toyota.com. For the Tigers tonight, it’ll be right-hander Jack Flity. And for the Angels, right-hander Kyle Hendris, a veteran on the mound. Actually, both veterans on the mound. Both coming off of losses in their last few starts. Jack’s hit a little bit of a road bump lately. Hrix is also lost three in a row. Yeah, Jack didn’t have his command of the stuff the way he normally does. That three-pitch mix is going to be really important tonight. This lineup is very pitchable. If you can get to leverage early, you can get them to chase a little bit. On the other side with Hendrick, he is a artisan of pitching. Has never thrown hard. It was always 9091. It’s down to 86 mph on that fast right now. He is going to absolutely pick at the edges of the zone. If the Tigers can get him on the plate and stay disciplined to their approaches, it should be a good night for the boys. Let’s take a look at some starting lineups. Thank you very much, partner. What up, though, Detroit? Tonight’s starting lines are brought to you by Comra. Only one bank’s been committed to Michigan since 1849. That’s Kame. We’ll start first with your visiting Detroit Tigers. Leading off and playing right field is Carrie Carpenter. Zach McKinstry will hit second and play left field. Glabber Torres will hit third and play second base. The center fielder is Riley Green. He’ll bat fourth. Holt Keith is in the DH spot batting fifth tonight. Spencer Tolson over at first base batting sixth. Jace Young over at third base. He’ll bat seventh. Trey Sweening will lock down shortstop. He’ll hit eighth. and Dylan Dingler is behind the plate batting ninth. For the homestanding Los Angeles Angels, they’ll go this way. Leading off playing shortstop is Zack Neto. Nolan Shonowell will play first base and bat second. Jorge Soler will DH and bat third. Taylor Ward will clean up and play left field. Travis Darno will handle the catching and bat fifth. Luis Renhifo is over at third base, batting sixth. Batting se seventh is the right fielder, Mustavo Campo. Kyron Paris will play center field in bat eighth. And betting ninth, familiar face from the central, Tim Anderson at second base. Thank you very much, Mr. Scales. Game time weather is brought to you by Clean Express Auto Wash, the official car wash of the Detroit Tigers. Fast, easy, clean, and free vacuums. It was misty. It’s been chilly. There was rain off in the distance. 63Β° cloudy at game time. Very unanahimike for this time of year. Well, Tony Tony Tony wrote a song. It never rains in Southern California. He lied. So, you know, anyway, no. Look at you dropping the knowledge. Listen, this is this is actually unorthodox. Again, you guys know I’ve play worked out here for four years. You don’t get rain during the day very often in this part of California. It is a it’s a little mist and it counts. So, there you go. First pitch of the game is brought to you by McLaren Health, the official healthcare system of the Detroit Tigers. Carrie Carpenter, Zack Mckinstrike, Cababr Torres up here in the first inning against right-hander Kyle Hendris, the veteran who grew up in this area. He was born in Newport Beach. About 15 minutes down the road, he’s all set to go as Carpenter leads off the game. The first pitch from Hrix is swung on, popped up. Third base side and foul ground. Renifo into foul territory on the track. He’ll make the catch. One pitch and one out. First inning is brought to you by Rocket Mortgage. Own the dream. So we are underway here in Anaheim. Here is Zack McKinstry. Zach has been on a heater. 12game hitting streak. That’s a career best for Zack. Went one for five yesterday with a double. Today he’s playing left field. Third baseman Renifo creeps in even with the bag off the line and the first pitch is taken outside and ball one. You mentioned that Hrix does like to nibble at the edges. And if the Tigers can stick to their game plan, which we’ve seen them do so much lately, and just spit on those pitches that are just slightly away as the next pitch is taken away again and it’s two balls in no strength. Those are two very close takes right there by McKinson. And what it’s an early indication Manny Gonzalez is going to make Hendrickx get on the plate and that plays to the advantage of the Tigers for sure. It’s a two- count. Hendricks over the head wind up and he deal. There’s a swinging strike on a sinker away. He takes it to two and one. Kyle Hendricks out there. Four seam fast ball, two seam fast, change up. There’s an occasional curveball he’ll mix in, but those other three pitches, the two fast balls in the change up are his main weapons. Here’s the 2-1. This one cracked out to right field. Comprom. He’ll make the catch. And that’s the second out. Taylor Ward is in left. Kairen Paris in center. Gustavo Compro’s in right. Luis Renifo at third. Zach Netto at short. Tim Anderson at second. Nolan Showwell at first. Battery of Travis Darnos. Third veteran battery with Garno behind the plate and Hendrickx on the bump. Two gone here in the top of the first for Gabberto. Day off yesterday. He had a three hit day including a home run in the series opener over the Angels and first offering is taken on the outside corner. A sinker for a strike and it’s 0 and one. Brought up Manny Gonzalez calling the balls and strikes. Cory Blazers at third. The crew chief is Ron Kulpa at second. Alex Tossy is at first. It’s an 0 and one count on Torres. He’s in with a 300 average. Four homers as the change up misses down in the lane and the count goes even at a ball in a strike. Yeah, Hendricks on that change up. He’ll cut it. It’ll go down and away to his arm side away from right-handers and he can turn it over and make it go down and away to his arm side. The lefties one taken a called strike on a change and it’s one and two. He’s thrown a careerhigh in the change up department. Lot less sinkers than he used to [Applause] throw. It’s a ball in two strikes on Glaver Torres. Hendrickx down and away on a curve. First one we’ve seen today. And even the count up at two balls in two strikes. Yeah, you’re right, G about that. He, you know, he used to throw even though he never threw hard. He used to throw a lot more fast. Now you see over the last four or five years his usage of the change up has gone up exponentially. Two two from Hendricks going to foul straight back and we’ll do it again. What you saw right there was a change up. He took a couple more miles an hour off of that one. And that’s what he’s going to do. The biggest strength he has is his command. He can throw it up, down in the zone, east and west, but he also can throw a change up that’s 82. He’ll throw one that’s 81. He’ll float the curveball in there. you going back and forth. Two-2 swing and a miss and the Tigers go in order. We head to the bottom of the first. Jack Flity takes the pump. No score here on the home of Detroit Tigers baseball presented by Meyer. Get ready for Tigers baseball. Your day in baseball starts with MLB Central. Let’s get it started. Bottom of the first inning at Angel Stadium and the Tigers and Angels are scoreless. Zach Netto Nolan Showell Jorge Solair drew up against the native of Burbank, California. Jack Flity grew up 30 miles from Angel Stadium that goes into the windup and the first pitch he was taken for a cold strike starting them off with a fast ball and it’s an 0 and1 count on netto. Yeah, good fast ball from Jack Flity right there about 93 miles an hour. That’s about his average for fast ball, slider, curve ball. Got a change up on slider, but Awan swinging to line five in the left field. That’s a base hit on the slider that time and is a board. Sends his hitting streak to nine straight ball games. Little different result though on the first base hit of the game tonight. Yeah, this one stayed in the yard. But it’s a good swing. This kid’s a good player. He’s going to be a really, really good player. Gets overshadowed a little bit at shortstop because you got guys like Gunnar Henderson and Bobby Whit Jr. playing in the American League, too. But this guy’s a shining star as well. Here is Nolan Showell. Man on first and nobody out in the bottom of the first. Jace Young creeps in at third base. Flity stretches at the letters. First pitch is taken outside in ball one. Shadow two for three in his career against Flity. He’s 0 for eight in the series. And batter against the righty. Infield plays for two up the middle with a Sweeney shaded up middle. Pitches called strike on a fast ball. That evens up at one and one. player. He’s lost his last two starts on each of the last two seasons against the Angels. [Applause] Netto off first. He’s stolen four bases this season. Here’s the 1-1 knuckle curve that misses away and Flity falls behind Shadowwell. Two balls in the strike. Eagle Stadium 347 down the line in left, 350 in right, 396 the straightaway center. the 2-1 swing and a miss on nothing curve. Double up on that pitch. Evens it up at two and two. A good pitch right there by Jack Flity. He’ll do that when he’s behind in an account to righties. A lot of times he’ll he’ll power that slider in there for a strike and he’ll feather he feather this knuckle curve into Shauna in the back door for a strike to the left-handed hitter. Runner on first, nobody out. Bottom of the first. The R scoreless clarity the high set and to two swinging in the foul over the screen into the seats. [Applause] Our partner we’re in range partner. We we got one two three four five six screens including computers, iPads, and monitors. I got you. Two and two. Clarity kicks and deliver. Swing and another foul. Third base side into the upper deck. do it again at two balls and two strikes. We need to stop talking about it because we’re going to speak it into a distance here in a little bit. Got one last night that was over here. Uh took the trash can out. Two and two count on Showell. Clarity delivers just outside on the slider. Runs it full. That’s a good pitch though. Just missed. Shauna started to go check the swing would go back in with that good fast ball as long as you locate it in there or you can go down below the zone with the breaking ball. See if Neto goes in motion here. He does not. And the payoff pitch is lifted in the air into left center. McKinstry and Green converge in the alley. Riley hurls away. McKinstry makes the catch and there’s one gone here in the first inning for Jorge Soler. This game is brought to you in part by Northville Lumber, the official lumber yard of the Detroit Tigers radio network. Man on first, one gone here in the first for Jorge Solair. One for eight in the series. Homer in the series opener two nights ago. Clarity stretches. Man off first is Neto. Little pick over to first. Neto diving back in ahead of it. [Applause] 8 foot home run wall that starts in left field, wraps all the way into right at the corners. It is a very short portion both right field and left field. Runner takes off. Flarity didn’t see it. Hitter backs away. It’s a stolen base from Neto. Pitches the called strike. Neto’s fifth steal of the year. Yeah, that’s on Jack there. He went with the same holding pattern, same cadence the entire at bat, the previous at bat. Neto was getting the gauge on him, timing him. He timed him up and stole second almost unconessively. The L1 curve misses in evens the count up. Clarity, his last guard was on this road trip against the Astros. Took a loss, surrendered four runs on six hits in five innings. Pitch in the dirt. Smothered by Dingler and Flity falls behind. Two balls in a strike. Jack has dropped three straight for the Brewers, the Padres’s, and the Astros looking to write the ship. His lone win of the year came on April 4th against the White Socks. Opponent hitting 217 off of Flity this season. The pitch swinging strike two and the count evens up on Solair. But good slider right there. You can pitch Soler out there just so long as you stand him up in. Good slider. He’ll spin off of that pitch. If you hang it, might need another one. Throw one in his swing. He’s still got plenty of power. Slightly open stance at the plate for Solair. Runner off second is Neto. We were scoreless in the first inning. Flarity kicks and deals. Got him looking. Strike three call. Painted the black with a fast ball. First strike out of the day. Two gone. Man on second for Taylor Ward. Yeah, Solair doesn’t like that call. Down and away from him. It was It was a 50/50 ball. One of those you can’t let go. Seems like Manny Gonzalez is giving more off of that edge of the plate to both Hendricks and Flity. Yeah, I think that’s right. First pitch swinging. Taylor Ward puts it into the seats. First base side foul and it’s 0 and one. Tigers and Angels third game of a four game series. Tigers on their longest road trip of the season. Bill one swing and a miss. Good slider that time from Flareity just below the zone. Now he’s ahead of Taylor Ward to nothing in the two. Ward hitless in the series. In fact, hitless in his last six ball games. A very pitchable Angels lineup. They are missing some key pieces. The O2 got him. Knuckled curve out of the zone. gets the swinging strike three. Back-to-back strikeouts for Flity. Works around a leadoff single. You think about how long this game has played and Riley Green was the first to do it as the one is a ground ball that scoots up the middle. Don play at second by Anderson but he’s going to have no throw and Riley’s got an infield single. Yeah, Tim Anderson was pulled over in the in the four hole with Riley Green being a left-handed hitter. Riley didn’t hit it hard. It was on the ground again. Hendrick doesn’t give up a lot of hard contact. That’s how he gets by. Was in the right spot. Tim Anderson was able to glove it, but there was clearly no throw. Put it in his pocket. Houston, Angel Stadium, and then Forest Field coming up next week. Y1 swing and a foul off of the catcher. And and the interesting thing about that, Greg, is the fact that this ballpark, I don’t know what’s I don’t know what has happened here, but to see the ball fly out of out of the park the way it did last night at night here, this place used to play very, very big, and it did for a long time, and over the last few years, it has become a very good place to hit homers. [Applause] He off first. Hendrick stretch it. Steals on the 02. Corlson takes a sink just below the zone for [Applause] ball. Corson 231 nine homers giving in 26. The L1 swing and a miss on a sinker away and it’s nothing and two on Sweeney. So functionally what that means is he’s getting guys to chase and when it’s outside the zone most of the time I say most of the time 58% of the time chase contact rate is 58% his is 79. What does that mean? A lot of poor contact because the ball’s out of the strike zone. Here’s the O2. Sweeney pokes it to short. Circling around is Neto. He’s got it on first in time for the out. Two gone. That’s a perfect example of exactly what we just talked about. And that count right there. Throws that change up down and away. Looks so good. And it fades out of the zone a little bit. Knuckle curve. and he’s quickly in a hole. 0 and2 and the Angels, they’ve been doing a lot of that the last few seasons. If they get a guy in the draft and he shows anything in the minor leagues, they zip him right up here to Anaheim. Yeah. I mean, that’s a that’s one way of going about it, right? That’s definitely been their philosophy. I think the things you have to remember is sure you like the talent, but you have to get guys that have enough mentality between their ears. Yu ripped to right field, a base hit for Shanawa. Fast ball. Jack left it middle. Middle middle that time. That’s third hit of the game for the Angels. Tim Anderson. Nice play to his right. Sure-handed. Caught it. Gathered himself. Still got a short stop arm. He’s playing second. Got there in plenty of time. One down. The bases are empty for Colt Keith. Hitting to a fielder’s choice in the second inning. Hendricks delivers. Keith turns this one to center. Harris moving into the alley. the center field has got it and two outs in the fifth. A check of that out of town scoreboard from the 1800 Paul Sands Studios earlier today. Cleveland beat Toronto 5-3. Padres’s 2-1 winners over the Pirates. Giants 6-3 over the Rockies. Central Minnesota 4-3 win over Boston. Good down for Spencer Torqulson who will take a [Applause] strike. Rebels beat the Brewers 6-2. Texas Rangers, their offensive struggles continue 2-1 loss to the Seattle Mariners. Figure out what’s going on down the Texas. They’re not hitting a lick. It’s it’s it’s amazing. Wyatt Langford was gone for a little while, but none of them are hitting. Hill one. Jordan checks his swing. It is away and it evens the count. Rays beat the Yankees 3-2. Rays have had their hands full with the Yankees this season. The 1-1 wave and a miss on a curve ball. One and two. They feel like they played them 19 times already. I mean, they have it clearly. Seems like they’ve played just about every week. Every other day. One and two on Spencer Torqulson. He hit into a 4-3 double play. His first time through. Shoots this one to right the foul. Tigers with two out in the fifth inning have been limited to one hit. Riley Green base knock in the second. Hendricks his sixth start of the year only second here at home. One twoerson spits on the curve ball outside the count up. Two balls with two [Applause] strikes. Hendricks a couple of clunkers on that three-game losing streak. Gave up five and four innings to Houston on the 13th and gave up seven against the Twins on the 25th. Lasted just three innings that day. 2-2. Orlson pops this one up into left. Neto going out coming in. Taylor Ward. It’s Neto the shortstop. takes it and the Tigers go in order. Kyle Hendris is clicking right now as we head to the bottom of the fifth. That’s Mike Piaza after he hit an eighth inning go-ahead home run in the first New York Nets home game after 911. Your moments like this and more on the MLB app and MLB.com. [Applause] Jack Clarity back to work here in the bottom of the fifth. An unearned run. The difference in this ball game as the Tigers trail one- nothing to the Angels. And the first pitch is a called strike on Kairen Paris who lifted a ball into right center. They originally ruled an error on Riley Green as he and Carrie Carpenter converged in the alley collided. The ball dropped. They changed that error to Carpenter and it led to the Angels run. Big swing and miss on the knuckle curve and nothing and two on Paris. Jack Flick got his good stuff working today. It’s shame that that ball fell in and ended up getting getting dropped allowing that run to score cuz he’s matched Kyle Hendricks pitch for pitch thus far. It’s a no ball two strike down on Paris. The wine by Flity. He delivers down and away. It’s a ball in two strikes. What are you seeing different today than what we saw on Monday? Yeah, just better location. I think his body’s moving a little bit better, too. A couple times you saw him pat himself on the chest to make sure he’s going the right direction. But the direction and the sequencing of location, this pitch has been very good. Big swing and miss by Paris on that knuckle curve. And there’s one gone in the fifth. That is the fifth strikeout for Flareity. This pitch count very manageable as well. He’s a 56 pitcher. He works here in the fifth inning. Pitch count brought to you by Rocket Mortgage. Own the Dream. One out. Here’s Tim Anderson to right his first time through and he will take a strike. And that right there, especially to this lineup, being able to land your off speed early in the count for strikes. So important. They’re looking to hit heaters. You can mix them up early. Gives you the advantage. A one check swing. Homeplay umpire not even going to ask for help. Said Anderson went around. It’s nothing in two. Quiet season at the plate for Anderson hitting just [Applause] 170. Yu from Flity. Ball misses away. Ball in two strikes. [Applause] A lot of swing and miss in this Angels lineup. They don’t walk very often. It is a work in progress this organization. The one, two, got him. Swinging strike three. Backto back swinging strikeouts on the knuckle curve. Two gone. Just another good sequence right there. You fed him a couple curve balls early. You zip the fast ball away. That’s just off the plate for a ball. Good arm speed. Same same tunnel, same location, but it’s a curve ball. Anderson swings over the top. This good stuff right here from Jack Flity tonight. Two outs and the base is empty. Tigers trailing one- nothing in the fifth as Flareity gets to work on Zack Neto who swings at the first pitch. Fouls it away and it’s 0 and one. Neto likes ambushing the first pitch, doesn’t he? He likes if it’s over the plate and he he wants to fire on it, he’s going to early in the count, especially the fast ball. [Applause] A one from Flare. Taken called strike on a fast ball away and it’s nothing and two. He first got to the big leagues. He’s pretty much straight up and down. Had a big leg kick and a wind up. Got found out a little bit. Made the adjustment more spread out. A little bit more conventional stance, shoulder width apart, smaller kick. I think it’s helped him. But he steps in the box ready to hit every at bat. Still has that wide open stance. the O2 in the dirt. A ball in two strikes. And that kind of goes back to my earlier point, Bobby, where Cal Netto, he ascended to the big leagues so fast. And you would think that those are some of the kinks that could have been worked out in the minor leagues, not at the big league level. You’re not wrong. You’re not wrong. But I just think it’s one of those those deals that where they believe that, you know, this guy his first of all, his glove probably got here faster than his bat did. And his bat was very good, too. One, two from Flity. This is the win. And so I I felt they probably felt like, and again, not being out here, don’t know, but they probably felt like his bat isn’t that far away. His glove is ready right now. Let’s put him at shortstop. He can catch the ball. We’ll have some patience with the offense, but it’s come around 2-2 away with enough curve. Runs the count full. And and quite frankly, that’s that’s kind of backwards. A lot of guys, the bat will arrive before the glove will. and you’re searching for a place to play him, but you think that the bat’s going to play at the major league level. Third full count work by an Angels hitter in this ball game. Payoff from Flareity is fouled [Applause] back. One- nothing Angels. Bottom of the fifth. Flity with six strikeouts. Update brought by Cardless, official ready can cocktail of the Detroit Tigers. Clarity into the motion. Heels on the payoff. Got him. A swinging strike three. Another strike out on the knuckle curve as Flarity strikes out the side here in the fifth. We’re on to the sixth. One- nothing Angels on top here on the Detroit Tigers Radio Network presented by Meyer. At America Bank, we believe small businesses deserve major league support. That’s why we provide a higher level of guidance. Professional great. Let’s see if we can figure out the following baseball slang term. Today’s phrase is oppo taco. Do you know what it [Applause] means? Oppo taco. A home run hit to the opposite field. Boston with an awful taco. His 13th and it’s a one- run game. Expand your vocabulary by listening to every game on the MLB app and MLB.com. take a hack at guessing which baseball player or managers had to follow. I really don’t know what to say. [Applause] Moments in baseball have been broadcast on the radio since 1921. Yes, Clarks wanted to write down the line. It may go crazy, folks. Go crazy. It’s a home run and the Cardinals have won the game by the three-2. A home run by the Wizards. [Applause] The next unforgettable call on the MLB app and [Applause] MLB.com. Jace Young leads off the top of the sixth inning. The Tigers with a one- nothing lead or trailing the Angels one- nothing. First pitch from Kyle Hendricks. Jace lays a bunt down, pushes it foul. Good idea with way off the line. That would have been a bunt single if he had kept it there. I like it. And what happens sometimes, you think the bunt needs to be perfect. Jace Young was kind of running out of the box before he bunted it. Where Reno’s playing, you could square around, just push it over there and still beat it out. He’s moved in and over towards third base since J for one. The 01 pitch lifted the other way. Foul out of play. It’s nothing and two. The sixth inning is brought to you by Jack Demer Automotive Group. Experienced the Demer difference. Only one hit for the Tigers through the first five innings today. Bradley Green single back in the second as Hendricks off it. Y fouls it back our way into the control room. Fella was wearing a glove and he missed it and still boxed it. Oh my goodness. Skillet. 0 and two on Jace Young. Hendricks delivered. Young fouls at P. Jay stays alive to count it. No balls and two strikes to send him to the Bobby Scale School of infield work. That’s remedial. We got some work to do before they get to me. Oh, and the [Applause] count. Hrix. Long look in as he is square to the plate. Hands up the head. O2. Got him. Swinging strike three. That sinker again. Only 85 miles an hour. But it looked like it came out of his hand at about 95. And that’s the type of swing that he got from Jace. That’s exactly right because he had him in swing mode and it was everything was down down down soft down and then boom he zips him upstairs with 86 miles an hour. It looks like a 100. Hendrickx came into this game career high walk numbers, career low strikeout rate. Trey Sweeney takes outside for a ball. But tonight, he has not walked a hitter and he’s allowed just one hit. Both starting pitchers dialed in. The only difference of this game, an unearned run in the second. A one taken a called strike on a curve. The first one we have seen Manny Gonzalez All the strength that was out of the zone on the arm side. Here’s the 1-1 viewed off the end of the bat foul and it’s a ball in two strikes. But you just watch the exit velocities of everything the Tigers are putting into play. The Green’s last ground ball out was up over 100 miles an hour, but everything else true to form against Hendricks anywhere from that 85 to 95 mph range on the exit velocity. on the two strikes on Trey Sweeney. Hendricks delivers. That’s a look. Greg, to your point, I’ve only got in my little eyeball test, I’ve only got three blue dots on my scorecard. Dylan Dingler over to right field to fly ball. Back Mckenry fly ball to right. And Riley’s in the 4-3 to Riley Green last time up. 22 misses up and in. And it runs the count full. Even his hit was hit pretty softly. It was just hit in the right place. 12 in a row set down by Hendricks. Pay off to Sweeney. Ground ball to second base. Anderson scoops, flips. Two down. Tough sledding right now for these Tigers hitters. Here’s Dylan Dingler. Charge into a ball in the third inning, but flew to [Applause] right. One nothing Angels. Top of the sixth. First pitch to Dingler. This is a way on a change. And that’s ball one. [Applause] or no offer. Curve ball for a strike. Top of the zone evens the count. No action in either bullpen thus far tonight. Hendrick 68 pitches. The 1-1 away with a miss at a sinker in and he’s in a hole. One and two. I mean, Hendrick’s ability to get to set his stuff up to go into these hitters, whether to be right or left-handed by just being soft away. Soft away. Show a fast ball away and zipping the fast ball in. It’s It’s amazing. And then that sinker, the action on the sinker is very good tonight. On the two strikes on Dylan Dingler, bases empty, two out, top of the sixth inning. Hendricks wheels and deals. Dingler shoots this one to left center. get down ball and it does for a base hit. Up with it Taylor Warren and Dylan Dingler. He’s hit safely in all three games of this series. It’s his sixth hit of the series and the Tigers have the tying man on base for the top of the lineup and Carrie Carpenter. Yeah, pretty good swing by Dingler still got in on him a little bit, but that sinker was up. If that sinker’s down, it’s probably a ground ball of third. It’s up. Dylan Dingler, strong dude, muscles it into left field for a base knock. We have just been watching all season the evolution of Dylan Dingler at the plate. It’s been fun to see. It really has. Here’s Carpenter tying run at first, two outs in six. First pitch is low and that’s ball one. Go ahead and hang a breaking ball here, Mr. Hendricks. Harry popped out on one pitch in the first inning. Grounded out back to Hendricks in the fourth. These Tiger hitters, not many of them have seen Hendrick. In fact, there’s only been two of them. This one hit in the air, not deep left field coming in. Taylor Ward, plenty of room. He’s got it. And the side is retired. Tigers strand a man on. We’re off to the bottom of the six. It’s one- nothing Angels here in the home. Detroit Tigers baseball presented by Meer. Let’s see if we can figure out the following baseball slang term. Today’s phrase is oppo. Do you know what it means? [Music] Alo taco. Here moments like this and more on the MLB app and MLB.com. [Applause] Moments in baseball have been broadcast on the radio since 1921. Smith courts one in right down the line. So crazy, folks. So crazy. It’s a home run and the Cardinals have won the game by the three-2. A home run by the Wizards. [Applause] Catch the next unforgettable call on the MLB app and MLB.com. [Applause] [Applause] bottom of the sixth. Angels lead the Tigers one to nothing. Nolan Shadow, Horge Solair, Taylor Ward, all due up here in the sixth. Unarn runs scoring on an error back in the second. It’s the game’s lone run. Jack Flity gets back to work. He struck out the side in the fifth. First pitch to Shawell is taken low for a ball. Shawal has one of the four Angels hits. He flew to left in the first inning. Singled in the third. One from [Applause] Flare. Prepare for a strike. Evens the count up. Bobby, we looked up in between innings the usage of Jack Flity on that knuckle curve. Pitch that he normally throws about 24% of the time, but he was up around 33%. Yeah. Yeah, he was. And it was noticeable. I didn’t exactly know the count, but I knew it was more than normal. And sure enough, that’s been the game plan. He’s been able to execute that both sides of the plate below the zone when he needs to throw it for a strike. Well, one down and away on a change up. Two balls in the string. And that curve ball is a field pitch. It’s it’s kind of like the curveball and change ups are real field pitches. There’s some nights you just don’t have that feel for it and to grind through it. He’s got it tonight. 2-1 swinging a hard hit line drive up the middle and a base hit into center field for Shanov. He’s got his second hit of the day. Wide turn around first. They’ll hold there with the single brings up Jorge Soler. We talked about how aggressive this organization has been with some of their guys. Shauna, I don’t know that it was a hundred at bats in the minor leagues before he got here. destroyed the minor leagues very quickly. They brought him up last year or two. Was it two years ago? Yeah, it would have been two years ago. Two years ago, but nonetheless, this kid’s going to hit and I think he’s going to grow into some power, too. I mean, he is a guy that had eight at bats in rookie ball. First pitch, swinging line drive into left field over base hit for Jorge [Applause] Solair. The Angels with two base runners on for the first time today. But back to Shottwell. He had six at bats in Able. He had 60 at bats in double A. Did not play in triple A. And so what’s that a total of 22 games in the minor leagues. That’s incredible. Tigers have turned a double play today to use one here as Flity deals with Taylor Ward down and away. And that’s a ball. board over his last 24 at the plate. Clarity struck him out in the first, induced the fly out to right in the third. Shaell at second, Solair at first. Larity stretches deals on the 10. Lifts it in the air. Center field. Riley Green started in now a step out. He’ll make the catch. Tagging heading to third is Shaw. No, he will not. He will put on the brakes and head back to second. Throw was to the cut off man. We’ll pause 10 seconds for station identification here in the Detroit Tigers radio [Applause] network. You know, Bobby, I really thought that Shauna was going to test Riley because he had to backpedal and he would have had to throw that off his back foot. But no, I agree. Put on brakes. Here’s Travis Darno who’s got a pair of hits. He’ll swing and miss at a slider. It’s 0 and one. That said, Riley did unccork a very good throw to Trey Sweeney, the cut off man there. It would have been bang bang at third, but with Darno already got two hits tonight on deck. Thought better of it. One out, two on, pitch down and away. Dingler back picked to second. Not in time to get shot away. And we know Dylan Dingle’s got a cannon. He’s thrown out with the base Steelers this season 31.2% of the time. up from where he was last year in his brief time in the major leagues and those numbers right in the line where he was in the minor leagues where he was about 34%. A 1-1 swing and a two foul first base side being a little bit just foul territory and Darno’s in a hole one two. Yeah, I like Ding looking for outs somewhere on the field outside of them putting the ball in play or getting a strike out. A lot of times that can bail your pitcher out, your team out. you pick a guy off, it can uplift the team, too. And going back to the Shawal play one more time here, you think back to when the Angels were in their heyday. Yeah. They were known for their base run. And it’s sort of what the Tigers do now. They’re always taking that extra base. Always looking to go first to third. They used to lead the league every year in first to third by a wide margin, too. One, two on Darnell. Curve misses away. evens it up. Two balls, two strikes. And and that’s when the brands of baseball were still very different. American League and National League. They played a decidingly National League style of baseball in the American League. And it was it was it was a problem for the rest of American League clubs. 2-2. That’s low. Runs it full. First and second, one out here in the sixth inning. Tigers down a run. One- nothing. still has plenty of fuel in the tank. Next pitch he throws will be in his 80th of the game and Clarity will step off and Dylan Ginger is going to take a slow walk down to the mound. Just give Jack a little bit of a breather. Yeah, it’s a big pitch in this ball game. Tigers down one- nothing here. Haven’t gotten a lot of thing generated anything generated offensively. It’s a priv privile point. And to your point, Greg, you can get Darno to hit something on the ground, you got a chance to turn double play. Does not run well. Roman Shanowell at second, Jorge Soler at first. One out here in the sixth inning. Knuckle curve has been so effective for Flity today. Who he goes with on the 3-2 to Darno? Darno doubled and scored in the second, singing in the fourth. Flarity stretches out to Leonards. Payoff swinging a ground ball to third and fouled. It was the slider down. I like the call there. Little bit more velocity of sharp break, tight, sharp slider. It’s been nothing but sliders and curve balls for the angel catcher. Three and two. Flare looks at second. Kicks and fire down and away. Ball four. Went with the curve. Could not get a chase. And the Angels have loaded the bases. That’s Flarity’s first walk of the evening. And the Basins are loaded for Lis [Applause] Renifo. Corners pinch in. Middle plays for two. And Heo did hit into a double play his last time through. First pitch. Swinging a ground ball up the middle. Base hit. Donov scores. Here comes Solair. He’ll score. Going to third is Darnell. And the Angels lead it three nothing in the six. That th a curveball right there. Down. Renipo. Didn’t try to do too much with it. Hit it right back up the middle. Two runs in. Darnell goes to third. First and third here for the Angels with just a one out. So a costly one out walk to load the bases and Renifo I think he was looking for that pitch because he saw it attacked it went right back through the box. Yeah, he stayed on that too. Here’s Gustavo Compro twice bounced out to Torson to first. Perkins holds the runner there. First pitch bunch shown and the strike called. Slider at the bottom of the zone. Action begins down in the Tigers bullpen. It’s Bo Brriski. ated today off the injured list. Cougars sending Tyler Owens back to TripleA to lead the L1 swing and a miss on a slider. Nothing in [Applause] two. I get the idea of trying to steal a run there with a bunt, but now you find yourself in an O2 hole if you’re compar. Yeah, it’s tough right there. Runners on the corners. One out the pitch. Herb misses away. It’s a one and two [Applause] count. Angels lead three nothing in the sixth. Garno at third. Ranifo at first. Clarity kicks and fires low and outside. Two balls, two strikes. Third time through the order has been a problem for Flarity this season. Two and two the count at the corners for the Angels. Flarity kicks, delivers. Runner from first goes. It’s a swing and a miss. Dinglers throw to second. Not in time. Stolen base for Ren Heath. Good. Good job by Trey Sweeney right there. Throw from Dingler came in hot, but it was down a little bit and Sweeney had to Oh, he came off the back. Yeah, it did look like he came off, didn’t he? Getting a look here on our fandom. I just don’t know if he held the if he held the tag. That’s the thing, but he was off the [Applause] back. No challenge from the Tigers. So, now second and third. That was Flarity’s eighth strikeout. [Applause] One shy of a season high. First pitch. Kyron Paris misses down and away for a ball. Three nothing Angels. Bottom of the sixth. It was a one- nothing Tiger deficit. Now it’s three. Tigers put them right where they [Applause] want. Here’s the one out. Taken low. Two. [Applause] Big batter here for Flity. Duo pitch. Slider for a called strike. It’s two and [Applause] one. Two-run single for Kairen Paris and the Angels have opened up a five nothing lead here in the sixth [Applause] inning. Hanging breaking ball from Jack Flity. Wanted it away. Didn’t get it there. Mill of the plate. Paris hits it down the line for a long single. Two are in to score. That’s going to be the end of the night for Jack Flity. It is indeed. Here comes AJ Hinch and we’ll step aside for this call to the bullpen. Tigers trail 5 nothing in the sixth here on the Detroit Tigers radio network. He’ll throw about 10% of the time, but his main weapons of choice are that four seam heater and that good change up that fades down and away with tremendous movement away from left-handed hitters. So, the line not yet close on Jack Flity. He is responsible for the runner at first. The three nothing ball game. Kyron Paris, the runner, a two-run single. The Angels have a five nothing lead. Angels pen [Applause] silent. Hendricks into the motion. Deals on the one two up and outside. Evens the count. Two balls and two strikes. [Applause] and Rick’s offer. Three straight clunkers coming into today, but he has been dialed in from the start. Two-2 hooked to short be the third baseman Renifo playing in that spot. Hooks on to first. McKenzry will tie and again ground ball out front off the change up away from McKenry. It’s tough. I mean, this this is one of those days where as a hitter, you look at, you know, you look down and you’re 0 for three or you’re one for four and even the one hit you got, you didn’t hit hard and you’re like, how does this guy do it to me? But this is what and that’s I mean no disrespect to Kyle Hendrick. This is what he does and he’s been very good at it for a long time doing it this way. Forezone for two. Thought about it, held up on a change up away and it’s ball one. But you’re right, and you watch some of these Tiger hitters right now, and they’re trying to get their swing started a little early, looking like they’re going to lunge for a ball, and then they hold up. Very uncomfortable at bats right now as Torres hooks this one to left field. Going back as Taylor Ward at the track, makes the catch. Two, the hardest hit ball of the night. 101 miles an hour. The long fly ball out, two gone. Yeah, Glabber hit that ball just a little too high. Hit it hard like you said 101 off the bat. Just caught it a little too high to the big part of the yard. That’s the best That’s probably the best swing any Tiger’s had all night. There’s Ryan the Green one for two as one of the two Tiger hits in this game. Hendricks offers up first pitch down and [Applause] away. At this rate, Bobby, we’ll probably see Hendrickx for the eighth. He might without a doubt. 10 out of the way. Two and0 on single for Riley Green in the second. A single for Dylan Dingler in the sixth. And that has been it. Tigers offense tonight against the veteran right-handed. 200 inside three and0. And there haven’t been many three ball counts. You I was just thinking that. Has there been one tonight? There’s been a pair of 32 counts and that’s been it. Got the countest favorite. Three and0. Pitch taken. Strike. It’s three and [Applause] one. Hendricks in goes into the motion. 3-1 pitch to Green. Breaking ball taken for strike two does put the outside rail will count. Just elite command and always has been. Again, to do what he’s done with his arsenal, you have to have elite command and he’s been pinpoint tonight. He’s payoff. Green shoots this one to left center on the run. Paris center fielder is going to track it. He’ll make the running catch. Tigers go in order. He’ll leave it off and take hold strike from gun briskies return to big leagues. Third of an inning gave up a hit. Final line on Jack Flity is presented by Figer law. It’s nothing in two jets but five and two/3 on five runs, four of them earned on eight hits, seven singles and a double. a walk and eight strikeouts, one shy of a season high. Back had the good stuff going until that sixth inning. He yielded four runs. Yotu poked towards shallow center going out. Sweeney coming in green and it splits the difference and falls in for a base hit. And Shaal’s got his third hit of the game. Ah, that’s just just the lucky I say lucky, but Shaal did a nice job on that pitch right there. slider down and away from him and he was way out in front brighten it out with his front side and he just magic wanded that thing and nestled it in front of Riley and behind Trey Sweeney. Here’s Jorge Solair. Gunther offers first pitch swinging ground ball. Sweeney flips to Torres to first double play. Icelate turn 643 and there are two out in the seventh inning. When that ball hit that infield grass Bobby I thought uhoh this might be scooting through but Sweeney got to the ball quickly. Well he did. Nice job right there with Trey Sweeney. Good feet, good hands, nice shovel over to Torres and dip and whip over the first double play Taylor Ward. I could not believe first pitch to strike on Taylor Ward. I mean, it is like a fairway out there on the grass. It is. It is very tight. Beautifully manicured, but my goodness, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a field with grass that short. That’s a swing and a miss. It’s nothing in two. It is a fast track here at Angel Stadium. No balls and two strikes. The count on Taylor Ward. Go for three today. Gun for deals. Slider misses outside. The interesting thing about this park is they replace this field every year because every winter they have the monster truck and uh motocross rallies in this stadium on the offseason. One, two is low. Hardest working players by Carheart proud to support Tigers baseball and all the hardworking people who make it possible. Two balls and two strikes the count on Taylor War. Tigers are down 5 nothing. They outscored the Angels first two games of the series, 17 to nothing over the final three innings. They are facing a tough customer tonight, Kyle Hendrix, who has twirled a beauty. Eighth inning. Yeah, sorry about that partner. I’m just going to talk about putting pork on your fork cuz the eighth inning is brought to you by Hatfield Foods. Putk on that fork. Seamless transition right there. Here’s Keat. Pitch taken outside. Ball one. Five nothing Angels lead it. Keith 0 for two today. Hendricks into the motion. Deals on the 10. Cole, let’s say curveball put the edge for a called strike. There is still no action in the Angels bullpen. Hendricks 87 pitches. Here’s the 1-1. Wave and a miss on a change up away. It’s a ball in two strikes. Hendrickx needed a get-Right game and this has been it for him tonight. One and two on Keith. The pitch swinging a poke right back to the mound. Hendrickx will glove it. Crosses to first. Shoel see the high throw. Had to come across the bag to get it and was one away in the eighth inning. This has been a clinic. I mean, just mix and match, using all parts of the strike zone with all of his pitches. Speed guys up, slow guys down, slow guys down, then speed them back up again. I mean, this has been as as tough as it’s been to watch for our for our sake, this has been a clinic on how to pitch. And it’s so frustrating as a hitter because you see the ball coming up, you think, I’m going to crush this thing and then it just either dives away or you get a good swing on it as the first pitch Spencer Torpson misses outside and then you make contact and it comes off the bat at 65 milesPH. It’s It’s amazing how he limits hard contact. Here’s the one. Looped out to right field. It’s headed foul. One. Got a check of that out of town scoreboard from the 1800 Paul Sam Studios on their game in action right now. And it’s not in Los Angeles. It’s in Atlanta. The Dodgers lead the Braves 3 to one. That’s in the third inning. Everything else has gone final today in the big leagues. One on Torqulson wave and a miss on a change up the way. Houston 8-3 winners over the White Socks. One two on Torlson low. puts two balls and two [Applause] strikes. And just now Brock Burke beginning to throw in that Angel bullpen. Two-2 hammered to left field. Taylor Ward going back. That ball is crushed and gone. Touch them all time. Spencer Torqulson curve ball at the top of the zone and he hammered it 401 ft for his 10th home run of the year. One of the few mistakes Kyle Hendricks has made tonight. Breaking ball at the top rail and Torque absolutely jumped on it and knew it the second he hit it. That ball was way past. I mean, Bobby, when you look at pitch tracks, that was above the strike zone. Yes, it was. and he hit it on a line and it got out in a hurry. Here’s Chase [Applause] Young. First pitch to Young taken down and in ball one. That Torlson home run brought to you by Little Caesar’s Pizza. Order online for delivery or pizza portal pickup. A 10 breaking ball for a strike. Well, as many loud noises the Tigers made last night, it’s been equally as quiet tonight. The one guy who didn’t get a knock last night, Spencer Turkelson. Here’s the 1-1. Young puts it up the middle, ranging to the right of second is Neto. Glove play onto first. And that’s out number two. Boy, Neto’s range. I know he starts up the middle pretty close to second base, but he can move. He can move and he’s just got a very I’ve said it a lot last night and throughout the series, but he’s got just a a very easy mode of operation. He just glides to things. He makes things that are difficult look easy. He makes the easy things look even easier. Two outs and the bases are empty for Trey Sween. Top of the eighth, Tigers down 5-1. First pitch, Sweeney takes low. [Applause] Dingler waiting in the wings and there’s the top of the lineup calling no strike. Seems the wind and the pitch taken outside two and 0. Can’t imagine we would see Kenley Jansen [Applause] tonight. I don’t think so. I mean, he threw 20 pitches last night. Certainly he’s able to work back to back but coming off that 200. Sweeney pops it up third base side giving Chase Reno near the seats and it’s into the second row beyond the Angels dug. There’s a big piece missing in that Angels bullpen too in Ben Joyce. Yes, the big setup guy Sweeney homerred last night for two thus far today. Two balls in a strike to count on trip. 5-1 Tigers trail at the eighth inning. Hendricks the wind and the pitch. Fouled off the end of the bat, the back stop. It’s two and two. Season high in pitches thrown for Hendricks. He’s at 101. Two and two on Trey Sweeney. The pitch ground ball towards short circling around net off balance throw to first one hop not in time. Ball got away. Sweeney going to try to get to second base and he will be a hit and an error. Tigers the man on second. So it’s a base hit for Sweeney. E6 gets him into scoring position. That’s the first error of the season on Neto and Ron Washington making the slow walk out to the mound. It’s bullpen time for the Angels. So they finally knock out Hrix after 102 pitches. Tigers trail at 5 to one as we step aside for this pitching change. We made the signal yet. [Applause] He hasn’t made the signal yet. Homeplayed umpire Manny Gonzalez is on the way out to the mound. to join the pow-wow. Ask Wash for a decision. What do you want to do? A lengthy meeting. He may leave him in. He might. Wash is old school, man. He might go with his gut right here. [Applause] Nope. Nope. That’s it. So, after a lengthy conversation, that’ll be it for Hendricks. And we will step aside now for this call to the bullpen. Tigers down 5-1 with a man on second. Two out eighth inning here on the Detroit Tigers Radio Network presented by Mike. Tigers are the man on second in Trey Sweeney after an infield hit and an error. Yeah, Brock Burke out of that Angel bullpen. Four seam fast change up slider. There’s a two seamer in there, too. It’s a big arm. 96 mph. He’ll cruise. He’ll hit sevens and eights. Dylan Dingler one for two today. First pitch to Dingler. Down and in. Slider misses. And that’s a ball. He last pitched against the Tigers two days ago. A scoreless inning with a strikeout. Has not allowed a run in three consecutive after giving up two to the Giants on April 20th. Big lefty stretches. Looks back at Sweeney at second. The one to Dingler. Dingler swings. Pieces down the third baseline foul. To see if he broke his bat. Did not. It’s a one in one count. six hits in the series. Tigers have had a flare for the late inning dramatics the last two days. Balling to strike the count. There’s the set in the 1-1. Dingler takes it away. Two balls in a strike. 97 on that fast. Brock Burke originally a raise third rounder way back in [Applause] 2014. He’s behind Dingler 2-1 in time is [Applause] Called. Broke into the big leagues with the Rangers. first four years of his big league career with Texas 2-1. This one cracked up the right field line with [Applause] South even up at two and two on Dingler. That’s a four seamer from Burke. Even his four seamer has a little armside run to it. What you’re saying is right into the swing path of a hot hitter. Exactly. Two two to D Tingler. Fouled back. 37 down the middle. Almost 98. Out. Stays even. Two balls, two strikes. How hard is that as a hitter when you have a guy sort of dinking and dunking his way through the first eight innings. And now you got a guy coming in throwing 98. You you feel more comfortable with this guy cuz you see more of that. Believe it or not, they’re glad to get Hendrickx out. It’s not like they knocked him out. He just kind of ran out of gas, but much more comfortable here. Two twoler fouls off another. It sounds counterintuitive, but it’s the truth. Were those the most frustrating pitchers that you had to face in your time was the guys who just were crafting? 100%. Because of everything we talked about all broadcast, just having you in the rocker, being able to elevate and throw stuff at the bottom rail below the zone, just off the plate, just up, just nibbling around the zone. Two and two. Burke deals fauled away. Engler hanging [Applause] tough. He’s just challenge heaters right here. 98 mph. That’s center cut. Dingler has fouled off four in a row. All four fast balls. We saw slider change on the first two pitches. Two balls, two strikes on Dylan Dingler. Base hit can make it a three-run game. Tigers down 5-1 in the eighth to two. Dingler hits this one in the air to right going towards the corner. Compro turns around, makes the catch and the side of the Tigers. And the new Tiger pitcher Bobby is left-hander Brandt Herder. Well, Brandt Herder hadn’t been out there in a while. Two seam fast for her. Sweeper. His ninth appearance of the season. And the lefty deals with Travis Darno. First pitch, line drive right field and hanging up long enough, Carrie Carpenter makes the catch. One pitch and one [Applause] out. It was very much death by a thousand singles tonight for the Angels. 10 hits, only one extra base hit, but it’s gotten the job done to this point. Tigers will have one more opportunity in the top of the ninth. They’ll have the top of the lineup. Carpenter, Mckinstry, and Torres scheduled to hit. No action right now in the Angels bullpen. Here’s Luis Rehifo. Singled home a pair in the sixth on a one for three night. A thick strike. Double header against Baltimore last time. April 26th. Grant pitch two and third that day. Swept that double header. Brand got the win. Husky deals on the 01 swing and it bouncer to third. It’s fouled. Herder ahead 02. Such a valuable weapon. this left-hander Grant Hurder. I I tell you what, I you cannot underestimate the job that he’s done and the flexibility it gives AJ H. Like you said, last time out two in the third. Hasn’t pitched in a while trying to get an inning of work here. But he has been so versatile and so good in any role that AJ and the rest of this Tiger pitching staff has thrown at him. Yo, two. Oh, a swinging strike three. It hit him and he’s out. And that is a painful strikeout for Renifa. A sweeper has swept all the way into his leg and he has gotten up and he is hobbling. Ron Washington was first out there. Tell you what, if that doesn’t tell you how much Ron Washington cares about his players when you could beat the athletic trainer who’s probably 20 years you’re younger. Yeah. To your player, that that says something. No, cares about his guys. And then this is a tough one too cuz worst it’s that big sweeping breaking ball. He throws it heard him throw it threw it at the inner third. It swept all the way in. Not sure where it got Renifo but got him in one of his two legs. Yeah, we’ll get a look at it here. Yeah, we’re getting a better look here. And that hit him on the back knee in the swing. The worst part about it is the swing was kind of as a Oh, no. more like shin get it. I sure did get him on the shin. Wow. Same thing happened to Zach McKinstry last week in Detroit where he tried to hold up on a check swing, hit his hand, and it was a strike out. That’s the worst. You’re out and you got hurt. Here’s Gustavo Compero. First pitch, squares the bunt, pulls it back, takes the ball. [Applause] One high and outside. Two balls, no strikes. Games brought to you a part by Corwell Health. No matter the challenge, their response is always the same. We can’t. Two from Herder in for a strike on a sinker that hits the top of the zone. But again, such a valuable piece. If you needed him to start a game, he could do it. He can go bulk relief. He can go short stints. Herder rocks and offers on the 2-1. Swinging a line drive foul in the seats down the left field line. It’s two and two. And there’s two pieces to that. One, you got to have the right stuff. You have have to have good enough stuff to compete in all those roles that you’re being asked to compete in. But the second part and most importantly, you got to have the flexibility mentally cuz your routine’s going to change. You’re not quite sure. You know, you may start, you may relieve, you may open for somebody, and you got to go out there and get it done. Two two swinging a tap foul behind the plate. And that just speaks to the program as a whole, how AJ Hinch has these guys prepared. Not just here. It starts It starts in the low minor leagues where they have guys doing the same kind of thing. As you go up, you want these guys to be used to this. Sure, the starters are going to start and the prospects are going to start, but at some point you’re going to have to do some of this stuff cuz that’s how you’re going to be using the big league. 22 is a wave and a miss. That is a devastating sweeper as Herder strikes out a pair. We go to the ninth here at Angel Stadium. See if the Tigers have another comeback at him. Down 51 after eight here on Let’s see if you can figure out the following baseball slang term. Today’s phrase is oppo. You know what it means? Albo Taco, a home run hit to the opposite field. Rock Burke is back to work for Los Angeles. Got the final out of the eighth inning. Back out there for the ninth and Justin Henry Malloy will pinch hit for Carrie Carpenter who finished his day 0 for three. Jay Hen pinch hitting here in the ninth inning on deck. Andy. So that means Zach McKinsky’s hit streak will end at 12. Burke delivers. First pitch to Mallaloy is high and away for a ball. Ninth inning is presented by Com. Only one bank has been committed to Michigan since 1849. That’s Comica. A one. This one cracked out to left. Taylor Ward going back and he reaches up and makes the catch. Well struck baseball and a loud first out here in the ninth. Ah, that’s rotten luck for Jay Hen right there. Slider up and he hammered that ball. Taylor Ward goes back in a few steps and calls it in, but that ball was hammered. That’s the best swing Jay Hen had in a minute. And again, just an Adam ball. Nothing you could do about it. Put a good swing on it. And you know, AJ Hinch talks about that all the time. might not necessarily get the results you want, but it’s the quality of at bat and the swings you put on the baseball. Here’s Andy Abana as he’ll take high and away. And that’s ball one. Tigers down to their final two outs. They trail the Angels 5-1 here in the ninth inning. Burke stretches at the belt. Deals on the 10 high and away. Two and0 on Aana. Here’s base runners. Angels are not grand slam proof here in the ninth [Applause] inning. Two and0 the count pitch to Ian and he picks a rip swings through a high fast ball. It’s two and one. Good heater at the top of the zone. Starts out her third moves just off the plate. It was a four seamer but again we talked about it his four seamer and it has a little bit of armside run to it. He just beat Andy right there. But 2-1 fights it [Music] off into the [Applause] seats and Dickerson almost got a souvenir down there in the TV booth just above his head. Two and two on Avanz. The pitch shot down the right field line. A missile but it’s fouled. [Applause] Angel’s pen quiet at the moment. Two and two. The count on the belt to two. Hard hit to short pass. The diving Netto left field. A big hit. Smattering of applause. There’s Tiger fans in the house tonight. Saw a few old English D’s walking around out here. That’s good swing by Andy Abanz. One hop shot past Zach Nettle. That doesn’t happen often. Might want to take a picture of that. Write it down cuz if you hit it in this vicinity, generally speaking, he catches it and throws you out. Here’s Glbert Torres. He sent one deep to left in the seventh inning. But to know a fail, he’s 0 for three today. First pitch down an in one. And I don’t care what any baseball player says after the way the last two nights have gone, it does creep into your head as Kenley Jansen begins to toss in the bullpen. 10 down and away two and0. I mean, that’s just human nature. And you’ll hear guys all the time say, “Wow, I didn’t think about what happened last night or the night before.” Of course you do. You’d absolutely do. Absolutely. Of course you do. Anybody that says anything the contrary is giving you serve. You still got to operate today, but it’s there. You think about stuff. 200. Torres takes the strike. Takes two and [Applause] one. Final game of the series will be tomorrow. And the Tigers off to Colorado. Abany off first. Two-1 pitch. Hit in the air. Center field. Well strunt. Paris going back at the track and he cannot make the catch and it clears off the wall back towards the infield. Abany headed to third. It’s a double for Claver Torres and the Tigers with runners on second and third. Oh, just missed the home run. He did. He just missed a home run to one of the biggest parts of this ballpark. Tremendous power the other way for Gabber Torres. Just to the right of right center uh just to the right of center field chases Kairen Paris back there. Andy Ianz with a little bit of a base running error should have scored on that ball. Wasn’t far enough off of first base. I think he thought that Paris was going to catch it little ball easily have a chance to bounce tag to first base. He did do it second and third here with one out. That’s going to be the end of the night for Brock Burke. The door is slightly a jar here in the ninth inning. And we’ll take a break for this call to the bullpen.
