I hated the paint job for the spurs court.
Wow. Lots of downvotes. Didn’t know this was a controversial take
Off a missed buzzer beater? At home? Against the Mavericks? That’s one hell of a first win.
Man, his very first win and already clearly beloved by the players
Crazy to think at this point in my life I was in preschool and now I’m 33
After a 2-year ripening period after falling from Don Nelson’s coaching tree !
Look at them go nuts, this is their NBA Finals. You can tell he’s never gonna coach a high stakes playoff game with the team /s
Damn. He was old even then.
everyone talking about how he fired the previous coach and made himself the coach, might not understand how much that team hated bob hill.
I have never seen Gregg Popovich smile that wide.
They went 20-62 that year because David Robinson was injured.
They end up with the #1 pick in the ’97 draft, which ended up being Tim Duncan.
I’m old enough to know that’s Cadillac Anderson with the headlock on Pop. Time flies.
Late 90’s were peak NBA aesthetic
1996, what a time!
Like an older Ned Flanders, pop was rockin the stache here.
This clip is so old, that court looks cool again.
Back when Pop had emotions!
In the time since this game in which San Antonio beat Dallas, Popovich’s tenure has been long enough for the Mavericks to have 5 head coaches, including:
* The Spurs’ point guard in this game (Avery Johnson)
* The entire tenure of the longest tenured coach in Mavs team history (Rick Carlisle)
* The Mavs’ point guard in this game (Jason Kidd)
I miss those Spurs warmups. Sexy af.
I’m not crying, you’re crying
First of very many
Holy shit. That’s not Tim Duncan wearing #21. That’s Dominque Wilkins.
I don’t understand. When I was a kid, he was an old man. Now I’m old and he is still old.
GOAT
Alamodome days. I want to go back.
The Mavs were so ass in the 90’s
And just like that, I can hear Avery Johnson talking.
Spurs fans were pissed Pop fired Bob Hill and we’re already calling for him to be fired himself
Maybe the most compelling part of Pop’s mythos is that he had lost the trust of _everyone_ start out…except his players. They picked up immediately on what he was doing, why he was doing it, and how it was going to make them better. They rallied behind him and saved him from the annals of basketball infamy
