🔴LIVE 🔴Oakland Athletics VS Miami Marlins /Mlb May 02/ MLB Envivo /MLB the show 25
League baseball on MLB The Show. It’s the Athletics taking on the Miami Marlins. First pitch coming your way next. Just about set to go now. Today’s starting pitcher, Lake Backer. Base runners are tough to come by with him out there, Chris. Well, he’s been a very dependable starter for his club. And what stands out for me is that left-handed hitters have really struggled batting below 200 against him. And it just tells me they have a hard time tracking the baseball. Maybe it’s the release point, maybe it’s the motion, but just some way somehow they’ve got to figure out a way to pick it up and try to have some success from the left side. And that one missing low. Next offering is in for a strike. [Music] Late with the swing there. Oh, he doesn’t get the call and the count’s full. That’s one you always want as a pitcher down at the knees. And it looks to me like he’s barking. That’s a strike. Doesn’t change the call, but sometimes it helps to let that frustration out a little bit. And he walked him. And that’s their first base runner of the game. Pretty good pitch on 32 right around the knees, but just no help from the umpire. Jacob Wilson up next for the A’s. Over to first and he save. and fouled off. And that one fouled off with two strikes. May see some movement over there at first base. Trying to stay out of the double play right here. Got him swinging now. One away. Oh, that slider wasn’t even close to the strike zone and he got him to chase. That’s just a bad approach right there. Either he was looking for something else and got completely fooled or he was sitting all over the slider and just couldn’t resist the temptation. But man, really expanded right there and didn’t have a chance of making contact with that pitch. Tyler Soderstrom will hit next. Just missed man at first. One away. Nasty back door slider. There’s really nothing you can do with that if you swing at it. So, that’s a good take by him. That one ripped right center field and that should be extra bases. Headed for the plate. He will score and they take the lead. Always feels good when you come through and get your team on the board first. He somehow got to that outside pitch and pulled it hard into the outfield. Not exactly what you’re supposed to do with that kind of location, but you wouldn’t know it by how the ball came off his bat. Brent Rooker up next for the A’s. Good power. Not great in the OBP department. First pitch doesn’t find the zone. Hitter’s got some good opposite field power. What I like about something being hit to the right side into the outfield is that the base runner at second has a very good read and can determine whether or not he can score on that base hit. Swing and a ball ripped out towards right center field. That’ll touch down for a hit. The run comes in from second and they take a two-run lead. Love how he let that ball travel, trusted his hands. Nice job of going the other way. too hard. One out, runner at second. Next up for the A’s, Miguel Anduhar. First pitch misses. right-hander kicks, steals in there at the knees and the count even one and one. One out and a runner at second. down the line and that lands in no man’s land. A foul ball the one two. That one is upstairs. Still only one out here in the inning. Still two and two after the foul ball. Come on. Hacks and misses. It’s a strike out. He came out of his mechanics there. Typically likes to shoot the ball the other way, but that time a little anxious. This is JJ Bladeet. Here’s a guy who’s been struggling so far this year. It’s only late April, but still hoping he’ll turn it around soon. Swing and a miss. And he was fooled. Well, with this many pitches thrown here in this first inning, I mean, you’re giving the other team a really good look. He’s going to have to find a way to get some weak contact, maybe a swing and miss. Get into that dugout and hit the reset button. And a big swing and a miss. Two outs and one in scoring position. Foul ball still 0 and [Music] two. Man on second, two down. And that misses now. One and two. Swing and a miss. And that is that. So it’s two runs on two hits, no errors, and a runner left. Bottom half of inning number one coming up. It’s the A’s two and the Marlins nothing. And we’re back. And on the hill, Jeffrey Springs. Well, coming into this game, hitters are batting under 250 against this starting pitcher. So it just shows you how effective he’s been. and he’s been able to move his pitches around, add and subtract, change up the look so that hitters don’t get too comfortable and start squaring up the baseball. We’ll see what he’s got in this one. Xavier Edwards gets a chance to hit here. Take it high in the draft. He’s had that top prospect labeled over him since he put on a professional uniform, but at some point that starts to go away and you’ve got to produce at the big league level. Out of line, out towards center. Le calls it in and there’s one away. And time now for the Marlins lineup. Singy, we’re looking at a young lineup here. Not much experience, but they’re going to bring a lot of energy to the field. Yeah, and that’s just it. Boo. We expect this lineup to play hard no matter what. They are an exciting group to watch. Jesus Sanchez now at the plate. Come on. And a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. One out. Base is empty. Swung on. Belted. Ranging back. And that ball is out of here. And they’re on the board. It’s 2-1. That’s a great way to fire up this crowd. They’re feeling it now. [Applause] When you’re working with this kind of velocity, so critical that you move the ball around, work quickly, and make sure that you keep that hitter off balance. Clearly not fooled by the location or the velocity. He was all over that fast. And now Augustine Ramirez swwaying at a highf fly ball. Well struck onto the track and he makes the catch. That’s just a really nice catch on the run right there. He saved extra bases for sure. If the pitcher’s his friend, he’ll give him a second to catch his breath before he’s ready to deal the next pitch. Here’s the cleanup hitter for Miami, Eric Wagaman. Let’s go in for a strike. It’s 0 and one. Two out. Space is empty. Got him. That ends the frame. One scores in the inning coming on this solo home run. And this is now a 2-1 ball game. It’s Major League Baseball on the show and welcome back to the ballpark. Here’s Luis Rias. He’s got pop, which is a little sneaky because he’s so comfortable with taking his base hits to the opposite field, but he can jump you if you make a mistake. Backer back to work. And that’s a little bit high. And that’s ball one. Swings and hits one in the air out towards right field. And that’s a fair ball. Makes the turn and heads for second. And he’s got a leadoff double. Batting eight, first base number 16. Next up for the A’s, Nick Curts. Fouled off left side. Leads off second with nobody out. Miami off the mark there and it’s a ball and a strike. Boo. Our man Daryl Parker DP at home plate for this one. Pretty average size strike zone, but the book on him is that it sort of moves around. You can’t always count on how he’s going to call it from game to game. Let’s do this Miami. That misses the zone. And now three and one. Yeah, he’s one of those umpires that I have to see make his call on a borderline pitch before I start making my call. Like you said, it’s not always predictable, but it’s pretty fair for the most part. And ball four, two aboard. Pretty easy walk right there. Her last pitch wasn’t even much to think about. Stepping in Johnny Para off the plate inside. Ball one on the ground. Could be two. and he can’t come up with it. Still able to fire over and the throw is late. Missed opportunity there thanks to the misplay. Man, I was expecting 543 double play off the bat, but I think he just tried to be a little too quick there, especially when you think it’s a pretty routine ball to handle. It’s really easy to think ahead to the transfer and the throw before you actually bring it into your glove. So, bases all loaded up. Butler getting ready to hit and that’s fouled off. 01 now. Swing and a miss. Nice change up. Signs of activity in the pen for the Marlins. Calantrol up and throwing. Tanokco also getting ready. That one’s upstairs. Ball one. See if he can go upstairs a little bit. Make sure you miss up and out of the zone since you’re heading the count one, two. Don’t miss in the zone cuz that’s where you get hurt. That’s off the mark. And it’s two and two. [Music] swinging a highf fly ball out there towards left field. Makes the grab. Runner tags from third. Puts the tag on him and it’s a double play. Such an impressive play defensively right there. The outfielder on the run first. makes the catch, but then quickly able to set his feet and get a strong enough throw with accuracy to the dish. Nice job by the catcher as well to finish it off. Just a highlight play. Jacob Wilson up next for the A’s. Struck out swinging his first [Applause] time. That one off the mark. one and 0. First and second, two down here at the top of the second. So, two balls and no strikes. Two balls, no strikes. And another ball. Tyler Soderstrom next to bat for the A’s. That one finds the zone. And now three balls and a strike. That one is absolutely belted way back there. Banks off the wall. In comes the run from second and it’s three to one. The relay to the plate. There’s the tag. They get him and that’s the inning. So it’s one run on two hits, an error and a runner left. Now to the bottom of the second, it’s the A’s three and the Marlins won. Bottom half of inning number two. And now the right fielder Kyle Sters. Check swing. Did he go? Yes, he did. One’s the count. Missed with a change up. And that’s ball one. Worm burner into the outfield for a knock. man aboard on the leadoff single. Batting six base Connor Norby the next up for the Marlins. That’s a strike across the top of the zone. Here’s your one. squirts away a little bit and an excellent job keeping it right there. Sters gets his lead at first with nobody out. And a count one and two. Just missed. If he’s able to connect on that, look out. Swing and a miss. Had him out front for the strikeout. And Chris, that’s a way to neutralize his speed by keeping him off base. And the defense breathes a sigh of relief because he puts pressure on everyone if he can put the ball in play. But that’s how you do it. Keep him off balance, get him out of there, and deal with the next guy. And now for the Marlins, Matt MV in there for strike one. and that’s outside. Just missed. And a swing and a miss. Good pitch right there. Tied him up on the hands. If I’m out there on the bump, I’m going right back in there. Strike three and that’s two in a row. Oh, interesting. He’s looking very comfortable out of the stretch after giving up the lead off single. Back-to-back strikeouts. So, they haven’t been able to move that runner up. get him into scoring position and try to have a better chance of scoring. I tell you, good job so far on the mound. He just needs one more out. Otto Lopez the next to hit. Let’s go. [Music] Right through there for a strike. Swing and a miss. And that’s strike two. More and more guys are looking to slug regardless of the count and this situation. We’ll keep a close eye on his approach. Hard hit right side. Whips it to first. And the inning is over. Marlins leave one and it remains a 3-1 ball game. We’re back to start the third and there’s a new arm on the mound. Calantrol. Pretty tight game. So they’re looking for quality pitches out of him right here. Got to do his best to keep the score right where it is. Quantrol. Tyler Soderstrom digs in now. Doubled his first time. He’s hitting for that pop. came out of the gates really strong and the first pitch misses for ball one. Quantrol a 63 righty 30 years old now and he was born in Canada. Next pitch is outside. [Music] And there’s a ball. Ripped to short. Sends it to first. One up. One down. Brent Rooker up next for the A’s. Doubled his first time up. That one fouled hard the other way. line to second. Snagged on the bounce and very nicely done for the out. Now batting leftielder Miguel Anduhar. Two down, base is empty. Here’s Miguel Anduhar. He struck out swinging at his first atbat. And that’s outside ball one. That one ripped and foul ball. Quantrol back to work. And that’s a little bit high. And he grounds one back up the middle. Throw sails over his head at first. And this ball is going to wind up out of play. Short stops have to make some pretty difficult throws across the field sometimes. Might have tried to put a little too much behind that one, but clearly he got under the throw. Didn’t stay on top. Not a good release point and it just took off on him. So runner at second, two down. Leay will hit next. Struck out swinging his first time. Popped up foul territory behind the plate. Catcher tosses the mask, settles under it, brings it in. And that is that. So no runs on, no hits, one error and a runner left. We head now to the home half of inning number three. It’s the A’s three, and the Marlins won. as we go to the last of the third. And here’s the catcher, Liam Hicks. Hicks. There’s a swing and a drive. Rooker going back, feeling for the wall as he makes the catch. Now batting short stop Xavier Edwards at the plate. Xavier Edwards 0 for one so far and ball one. good spot there, but didn’t get the strike at the knees and doesn’t seem too convinced by the call out there on the mound as he tries to get a better sense of the umpire strike zone. Next offering in there for a strike and it’s one and one. A short stop. Takes a ball. [Applause] Next pitch is outside. That’s ball four. Tried another fast ball but missed the spot. Well, he tried to nibble right there and just missed his spot. Hitter didn’t offer at it. Now he has somebody to worry about over at first. Now the number two hitter, Jesus Sanchez. He’s already homerred here in this one. And a first pitch fastball is in for a strike. Now, this team is definitely looking for a big swing of the bat right here. Try to close that gap. But, you know, at the very least, if you could find a way to manufacture that run from first, it feels like it’s really important to getting back into this ball game. Leed under it, squeezes it. Two down. Now, batting number 50. And at the plate for Miami, Augustine Ramirez. outside low and that’s ball one and the sweeper is off the play. Edwards off of first with two away. Fouls one off. Two and two. Step off. Throw to first and he’s back in there. cuts and misses. It’s a strikeout. One left for Miami and they still trail it here. Three to one. Back here in Miami. New inning getting started. Here’s the second baseman, Luis Orias. Oh man, that smoked him on the mound. Gets it there in time, though. And they come away with an out after a tricky start to the play. Catcher coming out to check on him. It looked like it got him on his back leg, so you’ll wonder if that might be a problem for him in terms of pushing off the rubber. Yeah, it’s a great point and we’ll have to see how he looks, but to me it appears he’s moving pretty well. I think it’s just going to sting for a while, but hopefully nothing more. Next up for the A’s, Nick Curts. He walked and came around to score his first time up. In there at the knees and one base is empty, one away. Top half of inning number four. That one pushed foul and a ground ball to first and that’s just fouled. Quantro back to work and a good eye there. Really good take especially with two strikes. Fights it off. You’ll see another and that’s in the dirt to third. Fair ball around first and hustling for second and that’s a double. Got to love the resiliency he showed in that at bat. battling with two strikes. Just found a way to slap that ball down the third baseline. That’s really excellent back control. And it kind of goes back to all those drills you see hitters do off the tee where it’s placed in different spots. That was just nice. One out, runner at second. Here’s the catcher, Johnny Pareda. He’s 0 for [Music] one. And a foul ball. [Music] man at second. Next offering misses down and away. The A’s looking to add another in the dirt. [Music] Hey, you got this. Ah, ground ball and that’s through the infield coming home. Here’s the throw to the plate. Safe and they’re up by three. Puts a run on the board and picks up an RBI. Not much to this one other than just a willingness to go the other way and put the ball in play. That’s a team at bat right there. Nice job of staying back and letting the ball get deep. Here’s the third baseman, Lawrence Butler. Ruer takes off, pulls that one foul. in the dirt. Next offering is down low and it’s two and one. When the skipper calls down to the bullpen, he’s expecting the guy to come in and get outs. So far not getting what he was hoping for. Runner on the go again. Hit weakly on the ground, but it kicks foul. Got him. And there are two outs. First strike out for him in this one. And that splitter is maybe the go-to pitch when he’s looking for a swing and miss like that. He throws it quite a bit. And that’s a good example of the effect it can have on a hitter. Here’s the shortstop at the plate. Jacob Wilson and first offering is fouled off and downstairs. Para leads off first with two down to the inning. And that’s downed away. [Music] Swing and a hard hit liner up the middle and a base hit and out to a board. Now batting designated hitter Tyler Sodro. Next to hit, Tyler Sodstrom. And a foul ball. First and second, two down. [Applause] And that skips in the dirt. [Applause] Next offering is down low. Great job of laying off those pitches down in the zone to even the count up at two and two. Such a better feeling for the hitter. Ground ball up the middle. No throw here and the bases are now loaded with two away. Up next for the A rightielder. So they’re all loaded up. Brent Rooker getting ready to hit and that’s a little bit high and it’s one and0. Oh, he’s so good about trying to drive the ball to the opposite field gap in these situations. If he takes that approach, he could bust this game wide open. All loaded up. Dangerous hitter at the plate. That’s in there. That’s strike one. Just missed. Boo. In situations like these, the air can get really thin up there at the plate. Got to find a way to breathe and slow everything down. Two outs. Check swing. He went too far and it’s a strike. Swing and a popup. foul territory for the catcher. Drops into the glove and that’s the third out. So, one run in the inning on this base hit. It’s now a 4-1 ball game. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show. Back here at Lone Depot Park. Bottom of the inning. And now the DH. Eric Wagaman. And a slider in the outside corner for a strike. Doublebarreled action in the bullpen. Noah Murdoch getting ready to go. Homeman warming up as well. Ow. And two now. And it’s fouled off. They’ll do it again. Tough to take a two strike change up that just missed. I think it froze him. And now two and two. That one just misses. Foul ball and it remains a full count. gets a piece there. We’ll do it again. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. [Music] fouled off again and it remains three and two. That was a really good at bat. What I like about this guy, his bat stays in the zone for a long time. Gives him the ability to foul off tough pitches. Nice grab and they get the out. Now batting right fielder Kyle Kyle Kyle Sters the next up for the Marlins. One for one with a single so far to the right side. Urias tosses to first and that quickly two away. Now batting third base [Music] and up next for Miami Connor Norby. He was a strikeout victim his first time. [Music] And that’s way high. Ball one. Two down, nobody on. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth. Swag a popup. Foul out of play off to the right side. That’ll find the stands. just off the outside edge and a swing and a miss. There’s that slider. That misses and that’s ball three. cut on and miss. Struck him out and it’s a one, two, three inning. Three up, three down that time. We’re headed to the fifth. It’s the Athletics four and the Marlins won. We’re back and there’s a new arm on the mound to start the fifth. Jesus Tanokco just trying to keep this one close here. And this is where a bullpin can give their players a chance to fight back into the game. Now here is Miguel Anduhar for two in this one just off the outside edge and that’s ball one. You know these athletics simply put are producing a lot of quality swings. A handful have turned into outs, but of the balls they’ve put in play, 10 have been line drives. I say keep barreling the ball and good things will happen. Don’t let that get you frustrated. In the air out towards right center. Makes the catch for the out and there’s one down. Now batting the center fielder JJ Blade. Here’s the center fielder JJ Blade. Ball one there. That’s a really good take right there. Slider down and in. Very difficult to get on the same plane and do anything with. And that one fouled off. Next offering down in the dirt. Leay checks his swing. Appeal to third and he held back according to Ricky Holiday. misses downstairs and that’s ball four. Well, he opted to go with the off speed stuff on that 32 with the bases empty. Close pitch, but now he’s got to work out of the stretch. And now Luis Urias one for two. And that drops in for a strike. Leed over at first with one away. Little bit low and one and one line drive. He’s got it. There’s two away. That swing right there tells me he’s seeing the ball pretty well. I know it didn’t produce a hit, but he made solid contact and that’s all you’re looking to do anytime you’re at the plate. Nick Curts up next for the A’s. first pitch and he just misses. Two outs. That misses the zone and it’s 2 and 0. Miami hit hard on the ground to short. They get the force. That’s out number three. The A’s strand one, but they lead it four to one. And we’re back. We head to the bottom of the fifth. And now for the Marlins, Matt MVvis. Springs back to work. Well, on paper, it’s favorable to have a fairly quick inning here with two of the three hitters he’s set to face batting from the left side. Same side he throws from. Hard ground ball base knock. So, a man on base to start the inning. Everything came together perfectly for him right there. Pretty good spot hard and inside, but that’s a perfect example of keeping your hands inside the ball tight to the body. The ability to take that back up the middle shows his approach is to use the entire field. So digging in, Otto Lopez grounded out his first time up. That’s off the mark. And that is ball one. Now, these guys definitely looking for a big swing of the bat right here. Try to close that gap. But, you know, at the very least, if you could find a way to manufacture that run from first, it feels like it’s really important to getting back into this ball game. And that one fouled off. Runner at first with no outs here. In the dirt. grounder might be two. Quick feed to second for one. Oh, the throw is over his head and it’s going to wind up out of play. Bill, no trouble getting the double play started, but clearly some trouble on that return throw to first. I’m not sure if the runner going into second had a part in that or if it was something like a bad transfer. Either way, could have been two outs, but instead they got to work around a runner in scoring position now. Now it’s the Marlins catcher Liam Hicks. That one’s in there and it’s 0 and one. Well, he’s been incredibly efficient in this one. First pitch strike percentage over 70%. That’s well above league average and that’s what’s allowed him to pitch well up until this point. Strike two. Man, he really sells the change up with that arm action. Stays alive. Clearly trying to stay back a little bit longer for that change up as he fells that fast ball back outside low. Yeah, the count one and two. The only adjustment he needs to make is his target. If you aim at the outside corner, that slider’s going to end up way off the plate. Perhaps look a little more down the middle and you get it right where you want it. Foul ball still a one and two count. [Music] Fouled off the plate. They’ll do it again. Man at second. got him looking. That’s a strikeout. Well, just excellent location on that inside fast ball. Really locked him up. And it’s a hitter. It’s not typically what you’re looking for. You’re trying to protect away and then in. So, you can be a little bit tardy with two strikes. It’s hard to tell if he was fooled or if he thought it would be called a ball, but either way, that’s a really nice pitch. So, the closer summoned from the bullpen, Randall McCain on for his major league debut. So, we’ll see if he’s ready for the big stage. He just has to remember this is the same game that he’s played all the way through the minor leagues to this point. The only difference there just more people in the stands and it’s a bigger stadium, but the game itself is still the same. Look at the catcher. Whatever fingers he puts down, that’s what you throw and just let him lead you in this one. That one the other way makes the play and it’s out number three. Marlins leave one and they trail it 4-1. We’re back and they make a change to start the six. the new pitcher, Calvin Foch, and he has some nasty breaking stuff. And now here’s the A’s catcher, Johnny Pareda. Johnny Par. That one close rule to ball. Ball one. Boscher 29 years old and he was a 10th round pick back in 2017. Oh, can’t pick it up cleanly. Still fires to first and they get the out. Good recovery. Wasn’t easy following the misplay. Third base, Lawrence Butler. Now the third baseman, Lawrence Butler. First pitch doesn’t find the zone. Miami’s bullpen with some action. Lar Aras getting loose out there. Soraniano getting cranked up as [Music] well. Next offering is fouled back. [Music] just missed. Popped up right side. Lopez under this one. Puts it away for the out. Now batting number five. Two outs. Space is empty. Jacob Wilson the next to hit. Miami. And that is downstairs. And it’s one and0. And that’s in there at the knees. Really good cutter that he’s able to front door and back door. That pitch is devastating. headed down the line and that’s a foul ball. And the next pitch is way outside. Just misses the mark outside the zone. And that’s awfully close. I don’t know how you take that. He’s seeing the ball out of the pitcher’s hand really well right now. cut on and lifted in the air and just foul. Foul. We’ll see another payoff pitch. That’s foul off to the right side. Keeps the AB going. Good job to fight that one off. About to see the 11th pitch of the at here. Outside and that is ball four. It wasn’t easy, but he earned that walk after a long at bat. Oh, a great back and forth in that at bat. He had to lay off some really close pitches and somehow Boogie found a way to keep the bat on his shoulder right there. I’ll tell you right now, I couldn’t have done it. And first offering is fouled off. Swinging a foul straight back. The O2 now one missed. Two outs. Gets under and pops it up. Norby. And that’ll do it. So, no runs on no hits, no errors, and one left on base. 234 do up in the home half of the six. It’s the Athletics four and the Marlins won. And welcome back to the ballpark. John Shabi with Chris Singleton in the booth. And leading off the bottom of the sixth, Jesus Sanchez. Hey, stay hot. And that’s off the inside edge. And that’s ball one lined. And that’s a base hit. and the leadoff man aboard. A late jump. And I think that was the difference on the playbook. It’s not always easy seeing the ball off the bat. Something to improve. Now the left fielder, Augustine Ramirez at 96. That pitch is in for a strike. Well, the leadoff man gets on. You want to minimize the threat by playing sound defense. Hopefully the pitcher can get a ball on the ground and they can roll him up for two. Next pitch is outside. Sanchez gets his lead at first. Nobody out. Highfly ball down the left field line. Going back on this one. That one is gone. his fourth home run of the season. It’s 4-3. Well, that swing changes things. Yes, it does. They were in striking distance and they found a way to fight back big time. [Applause] Well, I’m sure there’s a big grin on his face right now, Boo. He’s probably had some of those that didn’t stay fair, but off the bat it looked like he was going to foul. Was able to keep it in there. tucked it nicely and he gets the jog around the bases. Good for him. Here comes a skipper out of the dugout and he’s ready to make the move. Randall McCain will depart and he leaves in a one-run game. New pitcher coming on. We’ll be back in a minute. So, a new pitcher on the mound for the A’s, Noah Murdoch. I can’t imagine any save is an easy one. You’re holding a small lead on the scoreboard and you know those hitters are going to give you the best at bats they can. So it’s always high stress. Let’s see what he’s got here to try and close it out. Eric Wagaban digs in now. Swinging a foul out of play. A onun lead here. The home team trying to pull it out. [Applause] Fought off foul. Just misses there. Was good pitch there. Really had some run and finished little up and end just on the edge. And that’s one of those line drive and this might be trouble and now the tying run is into scoring position. Oh, that’ll make you feel good as a hitter right there. I love the approach he had right there with that pitch. Not trying to do too much, but still looking to drive it. And that’s exactly what he’s able to do into the opposite field gap for the double. And now a crucial opportunity to tie up this game with another base hit. Kyle Sters the next up for the Marlins. That breaking ball drops in for a strike. So the tying run at second that misses and the count is one and one. The A’s bullpen has some movement. JP Sears appears to be getting ready and I’m sure he’s feeling some nerves. This would be his major league debut. Man at second swings and misses one and two. They just threw that fast ball by him elevated and if you’re not looking up in that location very difficult to catch up to especially with that velocity on the ground right side steps on first for the out. That play won’t be trending on social media later on, but it’s still important to execute it to perfection. This game is a lot harder than it looks. Partner Connor Norby will hit next, who’s 0 for two with a pair of strikeouts. The goal is to give your teammate a chance to score from third. There’s a few ways he can get it done, but his best chance is to drive one in the air. Look for the right pitch up and then smoke it. That one’s upstairs. Ball one. Here’s a sackfly situation. And he’s got to make sure he gets the ball out over the plate and get those arms extended. They’re trying to crowd him with the infield in. This be a big pickup if he can push a run across. Line to right. Base hit. In comes the runner from third and it’s an RBI single. It’s 44. Such great concentration. Everybody on their feet knowing that you can come through with a good swing. And there he doesn’t try to do too much. One down, runner at first. Matt Mervvis now at the plate. That’s in there. Go and one. In the air, center field. Blade gets under it. Makes the grab. Two down. Now batting second base. [Music] And at the plate for Miami, Otto Lopez. If you’re a base runner, you got to stay dialed in here. Look for anything in the dirt. Try your best to get into scoring position. And a first pitch fastball is in for a strike. And I know you want to be patient as a hitter, but you got to be ready to jump on the first thing straight. And he got one right there. But left the bat on his shoulder. Rooker makes the grab and that is the third out of the inning. So they get three and draw even. We’re through six full and we are tied 4-4. Now, welcome back. And here comes the closer, Anthony Bender. Anthony Bender. Runner in scoring position. No outs. Brent Rooker getting ready to hit. [Music] Pitch misses and that’s ball one in the dirt. Blocked nice job behind the plate there. [Music] and fouled off. Tapped softly on the ground. Norby slings it across and they get the leadoff hitter in the seventh. Up [Applause] nextiel Miguel. So the go-ahehead run in scoring position. Miguel Anduhar up next for the A’s. 0 for three in this one. And that one hit to first and he handles it himself for the out. Well, there’s a lot writing on that at bat right there. Nice job of the pitcher to bear down, make the pitch, get the ground ball. Excellent piece of work. Next up for the A’s, JJ Blade. He’s been such a good hitter with runners in scoring position. Some guys just take it to another level. For him right now at the plate, it’s like everyone else is in slow motion and he’s in full speed. Swing and a tapper that rolls foul. Well, if he’s going to do something special right here, it’s going to have to happen with two strikes. Fights that one away and the count remains 0 and two. Two down. Go ahead run in scoring position. Oh, he’s desperately looking for that swing and miss. He’s going to have to just change speeds a little bit. Try to move it around. Create just a little bit of illusion at the end. Got him. And we stay tied as the inning ends. Oh, this guy competes hard. We see the emotion there. I love it. Great job of getting out of the jam. We’re back in a new pitcher here to start the bottom of the seventh, Grant Holman. This is his fifth appearance of the year. Liam Hicks digs in now. Look for him to hit behind the runner. perhaps shoot it to the right side. First offering and it just misses. There’s the strike. 95 of that one. One way to make a guy real uncomfortable at the plate is pound him inside with good velocity. They’re doing that right here. And that’s in for a strike. Wow. Just a beautiful back door slider right there. If you’ve got any chance of hitting that pitch, you have to wait until the absolutely last millisecond. Just a tough pitch to hit and not an easy one to throw either. Keeps the atbat going with a foul ball. That one down the line and it stays fair. Boots it. The winning run crosses the plate and the Marlins walk it off 54. So exciting to see a team walk it off. Not so much fun if you’re on the other side, but what a great way to win. This team is celebrating and this win is welld deserved. [Applause] Close one here today and your final 54. For Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding crew here at MLB the show, I’m John Shami.
