Chicago Cubs vs. San Francisco Giants MLB game highlights (May 5, 2025) l Marquee Sports Network
Home sweet home. Cubs return to Chicago. Open up a three-game series here at Wrigley Field. There’s Craig Councel. Cubs coming off a series victory against the Brewers. The rest of the boys heading on out. It’s a Chicago Cubs taking on the San Francisco Giants. Game one of three here on Marquee Sports Network. Ramos Adam Lee 123 Chapman Flores Mtos 456 VR Bailey and Cos [Music] 789 Matthew Boyd and rock solid so far for the Cubs. We’ll take a little peek at some numbers on Matthew opponent OPS this season left-handed batters have fared a lot better than the righties have against him. This will be the first time ever facing the Giants. The 29th time a team, excuse me, that he has faced. So, only the Rockies remain for him on his uh I faced everybody bucket list. He’s hacking if it’s close. Swings and misses strike three. Boy, he’s got that good heater working early here. This is 95 mph to first hands to Boyd. Gets it down. Short Dansby fields two. Three inning. Matthew Boyd. Dodgers at 23 and 11. Z to short. Adam B fires over the first night in time. [Applause] It’s going to be really interesting to see how the the Giants are able to hang in there. So, there are options. It in the left half in dives and he makes the catch. That throw was cut off, but Ian H love the leather. One away. Homer Flores always been good against left-handed pitching. Hits this ball really hard. Another outstanding play by Ian Hap out there in left. The gold glover doing his thing. Time for the all stage. Good hands replay. Ian Hap continues to sparkle out there and left. Two miss strike three. Payoff. Got him. Strike up number three for Matthew Boyd. And that’s two scoreless innings. Boyd fires. swing and a miss. Strike three. Got him. 95 part of the order. It’s a luxury to have down the third baseline. Base hit for Swanson. It’s off the sideline. Gansby heading for second. Strong throw. Close play. He’s [Applause] [Music] safe. Utilizing those uh one run strategies. Hat out to right center. Box on the roll. It’s [Applause] [Music] [Applause] gone by in H. Home run number three. Two-run shot. It is two to nothing Cubs. It has not done a lot of slugging yet this year, but the quality of the bats have been really good over an extended period of time now. a lot of walking the ball hard this time off with a long ball. That’s what you’re looking for. Crooked numbers in the early going third. Nikki Lopez from the squeeze to second. There’s one to first and it’s not in time. Great play by Nikki to get one. A beautiful play. A little third sacker on third sacker crime here. Nikki Lopez. And this is where Chapman hit. He found a hole on the left side. Last time he was up, but this time that hole closed up quickly by Nikki Lopez. Beautiful play. Payoff in the air to deep left field heading back at the warning track. It’s a tie game. Can however get to the high change up. And that was a hanger. found out some really good ones here tonight by the mistake change up and jumped all over it. Home run number three. Both of teams with two-run shots to make the score two to two. [Music] [Applause] 02 going to miss strike three. Bailey down on strikes for the second time. I’m not sure exactly how Savon does it. There’s a true curveball ranks this year top 10 of the bunch. There’s a swiver to third. Chapman bobles it. It’s not in time. That’s a rarity. Bobble by Matt Chapman and PCA takes advantage. Well, and I think that’s PCA speed right there. I think Chapman maybe took a peek. This ball’s got a lot of funky spin on it. I think that impacted his play as well. He doesn’t get it [Applause] cleanly. Looper right field base hit. Nico say flying around second. He gets to third easily. appreciate it. Very aggressive lead. They’re not going to Nico steals second. He dancing off third. Dansby in the left. Base hit. Danby Swanson. He scores. Here comes Nico. Throws cut off. It’s four to two [Applause] Cubs. Swans swinging. Two for two today. The two-run knock here the lead again. over to third base that was misplayed and a couple flares turned into a two-run inning. This one right off the end of the bat out there thinking, “Man, oh man, got to be kidding [Applause] me.” O2. There’s another strike out. [Music] Swinging a miss strike three. He’s got a lot of them out in front of that change up tonight. Strike out number seven. Boys third. Second. There’s one. It’s a double play. Smooth around the horn. 543. Twin killing. Lopez to Nico to Bush. Cubs lead four to two. Home runs allowed. And Walker Kelly out to left. It is back. It is gone. [Music] The spring of Carson Kelly continues. Home run number eight. Solo shot. Five to two cups. Kelly not impressed with all those giant bullpen stats. It’s the ninth home run that bullpen has allowed and the eighth home run that Carson Kelly has hit this year. It’s a breaking ball that backs up and then leaned on by Carson Kelly. This home run is brought to you by Hefty Hefty. Hefty ultra strong, ultra low price. Bong delivers. He grounds it up the middle and it shoots into [Applause] center. Short second. They throw it away towards the top. Pete stops at third. Nico to second. Third year for the Giants now coming on the left side of the infield. A second run on Adamus. Chapman also with the miss plane again to the left side. Chapman boots it. What is going on? Base is [Music] loaded. 31 for first walk of the game for either team. Nikki Lopez brings in a run. Cubs add to their lead here in the six. Challenges in here in out to left field. Ramos makes the catch. Well deep enough to score a run. Eco tags up. Touches home. It’s 72 Cubs. Payoff. [Applause] All grounds it left side, shoots into left field. It’s a base hit. Two-run score. Sea Suzuki. Two-run single. Nine-2 comes lead here in the six. Here they go again. 10 more over what, eight different times already this [Music] year. Ball in off the plate. Be able to squeeze it through the left side of the [Applause] infield. Rounder to short to first come. Great start to the home stand for the Cubs. Cubs nine, Giants two.
