‘Most complete game Oilers have played in playoffs’: Corrado on Edmonton’s Game 1 win
Frankie Curado joins us to talk about the Oilers game one win. And an incredible stat, the Las Vegas Golden Knights were 26-0 all time in the postseason with a multi-goal lead until Tuesday night. Not surprised with the way Vegas plays and and Edmonton comes and this is Edmonton’s ammo, right? They just love to dig themselves in a little hole. It’s dangerous almost to give themselves a little motivation. But the big we were talking about it off camerara. The big difference now is that they seem to have the secondary scoring to help them come back. They do. It was a big part of the the series win against the Los Angeles Kings. And then tonight, it’s a big part of why they win the game. Can we say that it’s a couple former Leafs? We’re not making this about the Maple Leafs, but sure, everyone expects it from us anyway. A couple former Leafs that got away obviously help the Edmonton Oilers. This was the most complete game that the Edmonton Oilers have played this year in the playoffs from top to bottom. And I know they have to work their way back in this game, but it’s a power play goal. And there’s one play, the play where Mark Stone scores his second goal of the game where they let their guard down defensively. Outside of that, this was an unbelievable defensive performance by the Edmonton Oilers. And then you get your contributions from Dry Cidle and then your depth players. And yes, another resilient performance. Something we’ve seen a lot from this group. And it just goes to show you that like this team, they were battle tested in the playoffs last year. They got to game seven of the Stanley Cup final and now after a regular season where at times it had been a tough watch for the Edmonton Oilers, like it wasn’t always smooth, but now they’re back and they’re more battle tested than ever. And that’s they out Vegas in this game and that’s not an easy thing to do. And there was some speculation that maybe Stuart Skinner would get another shot at the postseason in game one. That did not happen. Calvin Pickard played. Calvin Pickard wins his fifth straight game. Is it time to stop wondering if we’ll even see Skinner this postseason? I mean, unless he, you know, Calvin Pickard really implodes. And I wouldn’t even say for one game. Like, if it’s if it’s for multiple games, then then maybe. But I I think you know Calvin Pickard has shown that the team in front of him plays a certain way that is conducive to winning. And that’s important. Like if you wanted to compare the goalenders and and break down the technical aspect, like you would have the conversation as far as who gives you a better chance to win, who’s the better goalie. But there’s something about when this guy’s in the net, the way they play in front of him, the confidence that they have, the confidence they have in him, the conversation has to die down a little bit for the time being. It’s Calvin Pickard’s net until further notice for the Edmonton Oilers. Can we talk about Connor Brown? And this is a guy that you had a chance to play with. I’ll always talk about Connor Brown. I mean, it’s such a great story. The knee injury, we know all about it. He scores his fourth goal of the postseason and it was a beautiful goal and it really feels like he’s the kind of player who’s going to continue to elevate his game in the postseason. one of those guys that can be a spark plug for this group because like we you played with Conor Brown, you watch Connor Brown like the speed always stands out and last year, you know, it wasn’t a great regular season, but he found the speed come playoff time and it made him an effective penalty killer and that allowed him to have some confidence in the lineup. Now, this year in the regular season, still probably wasn’t what, you know, Conor Brown would want it to be, but doesn’t matter because now you’re in the playoffs and you’ve got four goals and you’re scoring big goals and you’re that same effective player when it matters most. So, you know, Connor Brown’s always been a bit of a gamer and now we’re seeing that in the playoffs again where he’s 100%. He’s playing like he’s 100% and he’s factoring in in a massive positive way exactly what they would have wanted Connor Brown to be when they brought him in to be an Edmonton Oiler. You said it, the Oilers out Las Vegas Las Vegas. So, do they win the series? Listen, if they can play like that, be that stingy defensively, and not allow Vegas to get free looks at their net, they will win that series. The key is they have to do exactly what they just did. They have to replicate that. Uh Vegas is a good team. Vegas is going to have a big response. There’s no doubt about that. Like, talk about battle tested. That’s another team that that, you know, they know how to push back. They know how to have a response. But the the thing that looked different this time around is two years ago Edmonton couldn’t get anything going at five on five against Vegas. Tonight it looked like Vegas couldn’t get much going at five on five against the Edmonton Oilers. If they can continue with that, they will have a very good chance at winning this series. It all sets up a very intriguing game two on Thursday night. Frankie, thanks for this.
The Oilers went down early but came back to win with a combination of defence, depth scoring and strong play from Calvin Pickard in net. Is it time to stop questioning Edmonton’s goalie situation? How big a story is it for Connor Brown to step up for the Oilers? TSN Hockey analyst Frankie Corrado joins SC with Jay Onrait to share his thoughts.

All of last years playoff run and now this years run, all the media talks about after an Oilers series win is how their next opponent is too good, too deep, better goaltending, etc The Oilers continue to prove everyone wrong and still don't get the respect.
Go oilers go❤
whos vegas got? stone eichel karlson? those guys belong in a dumpster compared to edmonton, thank you
Jay should retire
Hey I'm an Oilers fan too…but I don't understand the leafs hatred. I get hating rival teams or Montreal because they're French snobs…and Vancouver because Canucks fans are the most hateful people in the world.
But Toronto?Why?What they do?
It should be illegal to talk about Hyman and Brown like the Leafs had anything to do with their success as Oilers. That said, enjoy Stolarz and Leafs in 5 vs FLA 🍁
To be fair, Vegas is missing a couple of important players. I’d expect Pietrangelo back in for game two. That will solidify Vegas defence. Still picking Oilers in 6.
I don’t agree with out Vegasing Vegas, the Oilers can press and tilt the ice unlike any other team in the league.
You can’t stop them, barring some degree of luck involved.
Defensively some holes in terms of personnel but they buy in enough to the system and details to work well as a group.
Another cup run incoming.

If it’s not McDrai putting other teams on the back foot most times when one of them are on the ice, they have speed in the bottom 6 to keep a relentless pace on their opponents.

im confused you told us edm had poor defense and vegas has more depth at forward
Seems like the Oilers have learned how to be a playoff team.
The great Joe Frazier always lost the first couple rounds. After a couple smacks, after he figured out the rhythm, he would come forth like the wretched beasts of hell.
That's what the Oilers remind me of.
Settle down. Pickard has a 0.891SAV% with the best oilers defence we have seen all year.
One bad night and we may never see Pickard again.
Skinner went 5-1 in elimination games last year with a 0.935SAV%. Clutch
There going to make Edmonton great again
Two 5 on 5 shots the final 40 minutes for Vegas, the oilers shut them out, 7 total the final 40, only 1 in the 2nd, after the first, Edmonton just took over
Who cares if there is two ex-Leafs on the Oilers? Corey Perry played for Anaheim, why didn’t you mention this? Podkolzin played for Vancouver and no mention there neither. TSN really can’t help themselves, they just gotta throw Toronto into everything.
And what does “Oilers put-Vegased Vegas” even mean? The Oilers have been playing an offensive-minded puck procession game for years, perhaps decades. They just tightened up their defence more and have reliable goaltending.
Terrible take
Bro these analysts are ridiculous. Talk crap about Edmonton and now total opposite
Brown = heart and soul! Love his tenacity and passion. Salt of the Earth!!
Vegas was up 3-0 against San Jose in game 7 a couple of years ago (2019 I think) and lost 5-4. So no, they were not 26-0 when leading by multiple goals in the post season
The key to the Oilers success will be Bouchard. If he plays smart and aggressive then the team will believe and play with speed and confidence. As to the Pickard mystique, the man is so loved and respected in the dressing room. As long as he plays near .900 hockey the players will go to war with him. The problem with Skinner is that he couldn’t seem to get over the bad/soft goal.
If we’re going to mention former Leafs on the Oilers, then how about Brown being a former Sen? Any former Habs, Jets, Flames, or Canucks to mention while we’re at it? 🙄
Keep Skinner on the Bench and the Oilers Thrive 😁
I’m telling you the Oilers play better under pressure. I don’t get it I don’t understand it but they need to go down in the game to win. It’s bizarre it’s Oilers hockey but it works for them.
Edmonton is like Secretariat….the come from behind king! It was an awesome game! I would like to not always feel so stressed watching!,
Clavin covers the puck most time whereas skinner redirects it and usually ends up being bad for him
Skinner let in 11 Gold in two games and the go-ahead winning goal mere seconds after the Oilers tied the game he choked I don't want him in that because I don't trust him as a fan when you need to score a minimum of four goals in order to win a hockey game there's a problem. And having to score 6 and 7 in order to win that's not going to happen too often the right goalie is in net.
