Did I have my doubts that the Stars would win the series? Heck, I didn’t even think we’d win a game without Miro and Robo. Did I have my doubts that the Stars can win game seven? Yes. I thought Pete Dbor streak meant nothing when it comes down to two desperate teams. But Stars win and a Mo Hattie. You had a little 250 250 bucks. That’s impressive. You’re Sean’s all excited because he’s thinking first class ticket now. Hey Ben, first class ticket. We got enough to send Shawn down here for round two with these super chats. We appreciate the super chat money, but let’s face it, Miko uh Nico Nathan McKinnon was unstoppable. He got his. It was the other guys that was the issue for the Avalanch. He is probably still has his head between his hands sitting in that locker room right now. I a lot of those guys will be. It was devastating for the for the ABS. I’m sure none of us here sitting in Dallas really care right now. But uh the one thing I said, you know, for the last couple days is the one thing that the ABS will not want coming in here in game seven is having 96 have anything to do with the outcome like this. That’s the last guy they do not want to go through the handshake line and look at him. I wish I wish we had some video of that, but that is got to be a struggle for them. And that’s one thing guys, the players right now. I’m wondering how the general manager is doing. Not that we Are you talking about Jim Nil? Not that one. The one in Colorado. You’re talking about Chris McFarland. I wasn’t even I wasn’t even gonna say a name. I was just gonna say the guy in Colorado. Everybody, it’s public record. We know who he is. Well, no. I just don’t like throwing people under the bus. It’s not my style. You guys know that. So, I just wonder how he’s going to handle all this, too. And the fan base there because, you know, it was a popular player and it was a move that was made. And regardless, right, Sean? Yeah. Yeah. I have a good friend I have a I have a really good friend who actually is an Avalanche season ticket holder who texted me right after the game. He said that is the most painful loss I could possibly imagine. He’s like you couldn’t have drawn up a more painful loss. He’s like it’s between between the they’re up two nothing and he texted me when they’re up two nothing. Not even a bragging thing just hey they’re up two nothing. It’s a shame that he actually the text at that time was it’s kind of a shame this game hasn’t been that great when there was only it was two nothing and then that happens in the final what 15 minutes or whatever it is. That’s it. If if you’re a you talk about a gut punch from a Colorado perspective, it’s a I I’m sure somebody’s going to go through and collect the uh the clips of the third period of what happened over at the DMV place because I think that would be kind of fun. I don’t know if we can get it tonight or not, Owen, but I would uh the GM Ben is already working on it, so I don’t know if we’ll have it ready for later in the show or not, but we will be seeing it at some point. Oh, I want I’m cutting you off because I want to ask you about the goalies. You just mentioned Mo Rantin and the trade and the second guessing of the general manager in Colorado. Do you think that they’re feeling good? They they had to remake their goalies. No, they’re not feeling good, right? I’ll just answer that part right now. They’re not. Do you think that they’re now I mean obviously I don’t think Gorgio was the answer. So going to get Blackwood and Wedgewood I think was a massive upgrade, but they gave Blackwood pretty long-term money. I think four or five years. How are they feeling about Mackenzie Blackwood after that series? I I I I don’t think they’re they would be down on him. I think you’re going to look at the team and as a whole. I I I don’t you know, and again, Sean probably have a better opinion of all that. I mean, look look at the goal that Ratin comes around the back of the net. I mean, that that’s a tough one to to put on anyone, you know, even even Gerard who skate it goes off of. But so, I I don’t think they’re going to be down on their goalender. I I really don’t. I I think that they feel that the moves that they made were warranted and obviously but there will be questions. The whole random thing is the puzzling one for majority of people. So whether he’s got an answer for it or not, who knows? Sean, thoughts on Blackwood before we get into the meat and potatoes of the Stars game seven win. Yeah, I thought he was pretty good this series. I mean, he had the couple down the stretch there was a game in five and six. I thought there was some issues there for him, but I don’t think he was bad tonight. And I think that’s if you’re Colorado and you’re getting upset about going home because of what your goal, it’s not you didn’t lose because of goalending tonight. You didn’t lose this series because of goalending. In fact, you won some games in this series because of goalending early on. So, I I I I think that’s not a line we’re need to spend too far going down right now. And so, all right. Well, we won’t digest all of the avalanche because this is all about the stars, but um okay, Luds, you were very quick to tell us to calm down, to say Bobby didn’t like it, to say this is only a quarter of the way through what they’re hoping for, which is true. Their goal is not to win the first round, it’s to win the Stanley Cup, but they have to accomplish getting past Colorado to see out that ultimate goal. thoughts on this game and this series now that they are moving to the second round. Uh regardless of who they play because of Jakeer, I believe they’ll be the favorite. I I I just think that uh whoever whether it’s Winnipeg or St. Louis, uh I would expect that. The good news is is that game tomorrow night will probably be a war and you know they’re going to both teams will pour everything out of that and Sean can tell you you know as far far as Connor Halibet goes I think he’s rattling off like an 18 or 815 save percentage or something like that. Um so I I still think that Winnipeg is the better team. Um but there’s a lot of people in St. Louis that would disagree with me right now. So again, I think what Dallas needs to do is they need to uh refuel a little bit here. Uh they’ll all be watching the game tomorrow night, but um as far as an opponent goes, doesn’t matter. Yeah. All right. So John, biggest takeaways from this one besides Miko Ranton is that you everyone needed to show patience and not freak out to the fact that Logan Steno had two goals in game one for Carolina and and Miko Ratnon didn’t have two goals in game one for Dallas. I mean Miko Ranton was the the story tonight. Um I think there’s also some wonderful subplots of Matt Duchain two years in a row has a key play that ousts the avalanche. Obviously, it’s not the game-winning goal, but he gets the assist on the game-winning goal to Wyatt Johnson. There, I thought Wyatt Johnson was really good tonight. And then from a Jakeer perspective, I mean, for for me, there is Luds, I I want your view on this because when you’re watching the last 45 seconds of that period, and you played with some goalies who were in the Hockey Hall of Fame and knew what to do in the last minute there, that last minute to me was a statement from Jake. They’re up 3-2. He makes a couple of those saves. There is a big FU energy in some of his stops. There’s a there’s a this game is this game is over. You have no chance. And I think that’s a big last minute there for for Jake right there. And that’s a statement. And now he either gets he gets to go into round two and he either gets to go headto-head with the guy who is considered the biggest game goalie in hockey right now in Jordan Bennington after what’s happened with with Bennington in the past couple years or he gets to go headto-head with the guy who’s trying to steal the starting job for game one of the Olympics in Milan next year. This is a really cool thing to watch with Jay Goinger kind of moving forward from this one and going into game one next week no matter who it’s against. You know, the the word that comes to mind um Sean when I’m when I’m watching Otter tonight and not not just tonight, even when the game that he got pulled, but especially tonight obviously is composure. Like there there I mean he he’s he’s cool in his skin, you know what I mean? and even the couple goals that were scored on him, you could tell he wasn’t he wasn’t doing the the looking around and you know, let’s find something else. Like it was like right back to business. And I think I do think that there’s a lot of that comes with his belief and the guys in front of him that this isn’t over at at two. I I trust my guys in front of me. And I think that’s a it’s probably a a word that everybody likes to use, but it’s so important when it comes to teams. I mean, you have to trust your partner. You have to trust your coaches. You have to trust each other obviously, but a goalender has to be able to trust the defenseman and up and down the line. And I and I think that’s where Jake is right now. And I my guess is because of guys like Tyler and Jamie and Duchain and guys like that. And there are guys in that room that can pick it up. I mean, there’s another level for guys throughout this. This was not a flawless top tobottom performance. Yeah, there were guys. No, no, no. But but I but you know when I look at them, they’re going to temper the enthusiasm in there, you know, and they’re going to say the same thing that that I will say like, let’s just relax. This is four of 16 right now. Um you also can’t I mean you can’t you real quick like you can’t have no matter who you play in game one coming up, you can’t go 50 you can’t have 11 shots in 56 minutes or whatever. Yes. Right. Right. Like that’s that that’s something that might want to be addressed going forward. All right. We have another big time super chat that we have to cut into as we roll on here. Sean, as Luds tries to poo poo our enthusiasm for this night, here it is. Everybody’s worried. Pete Dbor sets a new NHL record. First coach or player to win nine game sevens. He was tied with Daryl Sutter and some skaters. I I believe Brad Richards was 8-0 in his career in game sevens. Sutter was eight and three. Well, now Pete Dbor most game seven wins as a head coach in NHL history. He’s 9 and0. I heard some nervy people talking about at some point that’s got to end, right? And so I think I was listening to the ticket this afternoon. They were saying you just you’re worried that that that that snaps at some point. They’re due. The Avalanche have lost seven game sevens now in a row including four to the Dallas Stars. Obviously Mo Ranton, but I mean Sean Pete Dbor just adds to this lore. I mean it’s the same series they lost their eighth straight game one too. So, let’s just we can let’s just let’s just get things out of the way right now and they’re going to be down 01 in 3 days or 4 days or whatever it is because things don’t seem to change. So, credit to Pete on that. But that’s it’s it’s a fun it’s a really fun stat and from a coaching perspective it’s it’s definitely an achievement. But to me, it’s I don’t really want to get lost in in in that because in this game, there’s so much to me that goes back to the player kind of dig in and everything like that. Like I don’t want to take anything away from Peter. I’m not saying that at all. But for me, this is they’re down 20 and this is a player who basically decided I’m going to put my mark on a franchise tonight. This is the type of like that third period is going to be one where it’s going to be in the Miko Ranton in lore for Dallas Stars history. This is the moment that he took over the city. This is the moment that he won the franchise. This is the moment where he went through and took everything the next step. So that’s nothing nothing against what Pete Dbor did. He won the g they won the game. But I keep going back to this game. I keep feeling so much I can’t stop thinking about what this game means for how Miko rant and changed everything in the third period. It’s and to do this Owen with with no Mero with no Jason Robertson this is this is this is a player who the stars haven’t had a player like this since some guys that that LS played with and that’s and that’s what I I was watching tonight. So LSDs LS is showing a blank you’re just flipping through empty pages. You got the audience over there giggling. Do you ever look at someone and wonder what is going on? The same thing that’s inside my head. Yeah. So whether you were listening to Shawn or not, as Sean mentions that Rantin I was not. Okay. That’s why I’m going to repeat it. It’s fine. He was talking about Rantin basically writing a huge chapter in his now just the beginning of his Dallas Stars tenure, but it’s a massive one in the lore of Miko Ranton and what does that do both for him and the perception of the player for Stars fans going forward? Well, I would say for Randon right now, it probably feels like a brick lifted off his shoulders because of I you know what is as much as players will tell you we don’t read the paper. Well, there are no more papers. We don’t read our phones and we don’t hear the noise from outside and all that kind. They do. They hear it and they’re all human. And so I’m sure in the beginning, you know, when people are expecting more, uh, this is kind of like saying, “Here you go. This is what I’m about.” All the talk about Renon was what he not not just obviously as a player individual, and it wasn’t about the 82 games. It was about everything from 83 on. Yeah. And that and and again, here he is. and he doesn’t have the same supporting cast that he had for a long time in Colorado. And it’s not that they’re any different or any lesser of players. They just have different tendencies. And so he needed time to get used to them. And I’m I think that we’re seeing the results here. And there’s probably some of these people that should probably say I’m sorry to the general manager of the Dallas Stars, too, because he was taking little heat for the move. So, and again, it’s just one round. So, we’ll we’ll see where it goes from here. Yeah, a long way to go. But Sean, what do you think this does for Miko Ranton jersey sales in Dallas? Oh, it’s going to be uh if anyone still has any I’m hoping he sends me one. I hope somebody sends me one. Yeah. Well, don’t you think I deserve one? I mean, you have been rocking the moose antlers for weeks now. I believed in them from the beginning. See, I’m one of the the loyal moosees. Moosees. Mes deer plural moose. I don’t know. We’re just rhyming right now. No, now we’re just getting silly. All right, let’s go through these goals real quick. It doesn’t have to be the Avalanche ones, but did you guys feel like 54 shots on goal through the first period was what you expected? A little low for a game seven. A little low. A little low. A little low. Yeah, a little. A little bit. A little bit. To be totally honest with you, with, by the way, with a Avalanche double minor power play, I thought there would be seven shots on the board of the AS in the first five or six minutes. I thought they were going to come out. Credit to Dallas. They didn’t allow that to happen. I felt like both teams were just kind of keeping everything. They there there was nobody trying to step up to the plate and go get that first goal. It was about not giving up the first goal. They were just kind of settling back in. Let’s keep things to the perimeter. We don’t want to be the ones that make the first mistake. And you know, you’re you’re basically playing not to lose. When Jamie Ben cross-checked Nichkin in the face, I think he was trying to push off the shoulder. I don’t think he was trying to stick him in the face. No. No, no. He It rode up his shoulders. Val’s shoulder comes down when he’s doing this. Val kind of goes like this and Jamie rides up. But did either of you have a little Jamie Ben versus Mark Stone vibes from 2023? Yes. Not me. I it it it creeped it crept into my head as he took a penalty early in the offensive zone and you’re going a little bit more deliberate though. Oh no no no. I’m not saying they’re equivalent. They look the same, but the thought was uhoh. A stick infraction from the captain leads to a penalty that could sink their series, which it should be Jamie buying dinner tonight for that. How about that penalty kill, right? Exactly. Yeah. I mean, that was incredible. So, then we go to the second period and Stars get a power play and you’re thinking this is a really good They had two good chances from Granlin and Donov and then Josh Manson scores a short-handed goal. Yeah, I you know what? Again, that’s pre-scouting. It was the entry for the Stars. It’s the one they’ve been using. They pick it off. And then I think a couple guys coming back get a little bit lazy. And of all people, Josh Branson, who is a hard-nosed kind of guy, loves to hit and things like that. I mean, he’s got a lane. There’s a red carpet right down the middle of the ice. And it’s one of them kind of goals where it hits the post and comes off and hits shaking the I think it was the arm and back into the net. So, well, what about your guy Logan Oconor? He’s the one that set it up. He was a menace the entire series. Well, he was one of those unsung heroes for them. And you know, again, we talk about him and the guys from Denver were saying he always seems to do that in the playoffs. So, it’s one of those guys you love, you know, and again, I thought through up until tonight, not that not including tonight, but but I thought that the fourth lines for both teams and the first six games were probably the ones that stood out the most. Maybe that it’s because the other three lines on each time team kind of canceled each other out. I don’t know, but the fourth lines just seem to play that straightforward play around the net. Sean, 10 shots on goal for the Stars through 40 minutes. Just 14 for Colorado. They’re down one to nothing. And then 31 seconds into the third period on a six on five delayed penalty, McKinnon scores again. What are your thoughts about how that went in on Auter and what the feeling was down two nothing to start the third? I don’t really have much criticism on Jake on that play. It’s one of the top three top three to five player in the world on on that chance. I mean, for me, my bigger takeaway watching that is it’s just a lesson that any coach as a coach, you shouldn’t overthink the six on five. just put your best player on the ice and give them an extra shift. And that was a that’s Nathan McKinnon jumping right into the play um on the delayed penalty, scoring the goal. And and that that to me is my bigger takeaway there. So many times I think coaches overthink things. Just put your best player on the ice if if they’re available. And that’s how Colorado goes up two nothing. And it felt that moment that that two nothing goal you’re like with how Dallas has been generating offensively with how things are going. This starts to feel a bit like a morg if you don’t see something big happen here. Sean, do you think because of who it was and where he was being McKinnon and he didn’t get everything on that shot, it kind of throws Jake off a little bit? Like it it it wasn’t a rocket that was coming at him. You know what I It was one of them. I don’t want to say it was a flutter one, but he didn’t get a ton on it that I think Jake is setting up for, you know, a heavier shot. Yeah. And Jake’s backing up, too. He’s he’s trying to match McKinnon speed as much as someone can match McKinnon speed as they enter. And so that’s kind of one where you’re you’re going full speed. Full speed. You’re expecting a little bit of the harder shot. And so it’s not an excusable thing to say like, oh, well, just a flutter should be should go in. But there is that element there where it’s kind of like it’s like a pitcher throwing a change up. It’s it’s like a guy throwing a fast ball and then mixing in a change up mid shot. So, it’s it is it is a um I don’t think McKinnon intentionally fluttered it, but I think that’s that’s definitely an element there. Well, there’s no way. I I can’t believe he believes that he’s going to be able to curl his blade over enough and tuck it in, but he knows there’s people in front. And he may have seen a player there. It is the first time I recall him being out there on a six on five with they’ve only got the five guys. And if you and if you guys didn’t see it at the bench, Rantin was talking to one of the coaches and he I I don’t know what he said and I was kind of like ah he’s going out there on the five good good you know and and again with your long reach and you know his smarts and it just kind of seals the deal. I was just curious if we can remember any other times that Ranton has been out there when they opposing Not off the top of my head. I don’t either. And I think again I look at that and I go good job Pete. Is that just the coach reading the moment seeing that one of their best players if not their best offensive player? Veteran players leaning over, going down to players that maybe had their hang heads down and saying, “This is not over. We we can respond to this.” And Pete said that right after the game, his first thing he said was it was never in doubt. And for this team, I mean, I think Luds knows better than all of us. You have to have that calm confidence, that leadership, that belief because when you hit moments like this that are tough, that are maybe the end of your season, that’s when you lean on it. And we talk about, you know, that there’s frustration with certain players not playing as well. That’s this is where the Matt Duchain, the Jaime Ben, the Tyler Sean take away the play on the ice. It’s that that belief, that leadership that allows the players to just get right back in the zone and be able to play. And then it also helps when a guy named Miko Ren decides to put the team on his back and take over and win the game almost single-handedly for him. Pete D’Vor said he didn’t just take over the game, he took over this series. He he basically said after game four, we are not losing this series. And he what do he have 11 points in in three games. It’s just absolutely incredible what he did. And I mean that’s why you don’t trade a superstar like that. And it’s exactly why Jim Nil did what he did. Got rid of a guy that Dallas loves that was part a big part of their future to get this guy for these moments. And I mean he he absolutely came through and did it.
