George Pickens Trade Could Impact The Las Vegas Raiders + Christian Wilkins Injury News

[Music] Raider Nation, what’s going on? It’s Mitchell Reds, your host of the Raiders Report. And coming up on today’s show, I believe the George Pickkins trade could impact the Las Vegas Raiders in two different ways. I’m going to share what those reasons are. Also, the Raiders needed to do something right now because of that George Pickins trade. I’ll tell you what that is. And then at the very end of today’s show, I got some information on the Christian Wilkins injury rumors that have been buzzing around that I’m telling you right now, that’s probably going to be the most important thing that you guys see on today’s show. I don’t like getting my butt kicked, but I saw a trade go down today between the Dallas Cowboys and the Pittsburgh Steelers, and I thought to myself, I wonder how the Raiders Report is stacking up against those two channels this month. I hate the Cowboys, and growing up in Pennsylvania, I can’t stand the Pittsburgh Steelers. The fact that we’re losing to these two franchises this month in a sub battle makes me sick to my stomach. So, coming up here, let’s first look at what the George Pickins trade was because waking up to that news this morning, it was big- time news. And honestly, it really almost happened late last night, almost like midnight, 1:00 in the morning. Here was the trade. The Pittsburgh Steelers, they receive a third round pick and a fifth round pick. 2026, 2027. The Cowboys get George Pickkins at receiver and then they also get a 2027 sixth round pick. My question to all of you out there is I know that both of these teams aren’t the Raiders, but it’s the NFL off season. And this is by far the biggest thing that happened today. Who won the trade? If you think it’s the Pittsburgh Steelers, type PIT. If you think it’s the Dallas Cowboys, I want you to type DL. For me personally, I think that this is such a big win for Pittsburgh to be able to get a third round pick back for Pickkins. And the fact that the Cowboys are the team that makes this deal doesn’t really surprise me. I know how talented Pickkins is. We all know how talented he is, but the dude’s an absolute headcase. And that is not debatable. The reason why when this trade happened, I instantly thought of two things. The first is because Pickicket is no longer a member of the Steelers. And the Steelers have been a franchise for the past year, two years that have been looking for a receiver. I go, I wonder if they’re going to reach out to the Raiders and say, “Is Jacobe Meyers available?” Because I had a Steelers source tell me this a few months ago that he wouldn’t be shocked if Pittsburgh tried to call the Raiders about Jacobe Meyers. That’s from a few months ago. Now we’re sitting here going, I get the fact that they went out and they traded for DK Metaf, but like the fact that Jacob’s been on Pittsburgh’s radar and the fact that Robert Flipping Woods is the wide receiver, too. Now, maybe somebody wants to say Roman Wilson. Maybe somebody wants to go with Calvin Austin. I don’t know who it is, but for a Steelers team that still wants to play a physical brand of football, Jacobe Meyers would be a good fit with Pittsburgh. Jacobe would be a great wide receiver too on any NFL team out there. It’s just the fact. Maybe besides the Bengals because they got T. Higgins. But if I’m the Raiders, I’m sitting here going, not only am I worried that the Steelers are going to call and you still pick up the phone, that’s totally okay. I think the other thing is, is Pickkins going to get paid? Because if Pickkins gets paid, that might boost the value of what Jacobe Meyers could potentially be asking for. And it almost takes me back to when I said it’s important for the Raiders to get Max Crosby an extension before the Miles Garrett deal just because if it’s something that you know is going to happen and I really truly believe that the Raiders are going to get a Jacobe Meyers deal done this off season. You got to try to figure out a way to do that before the Pickkins deal. Now I will say this. I reached out to our Steelers source here at Chat Sports and from what it sounds like Pickkins actually doesn’t want a new deal from Dallas. I reached out to a Steelers guy and I also reached out to Tom who runs the Cowboys. But it sounds like Pickkins doesn’t want a new deal this year. He wants to prove that he can be a number one guy. That way when he hits the open market next season, he can get paid even more. But if I’m Jacobe Myers, I’m sitting here going, I know that I want a deal. And if I’m the Raiders, I’m going an easy way to shut down all the talks if Pittsburgh’s interested is to just go out there and give them a flipping brand new contract because I think every single Raider fan wants this to not even be a discussion, right? I don’t want to hear Jacobe Myers trade rumors. I don’t want to hear teams calling about Jacobe cuz he’s got zero million guaranteed one year left on his contract. You know, it’s a good way to stop those rumors from happening. Just give him a flipping two-year extension right now. And it makes sense to give him a two-year extension because you tie him with Max Crosby, Gino Smith, Pete Carroll, and we fit it in this three-year window that we’ve been looking at. The numbers that I’ve been going with, and I’ll continuously go this route is a 2-year $40 million fully guaranteed contract for Jacobe, which then with the deal that he already has, it’s basically 3 years, 55 million. It’s an $18.3 million deal for Meyers over those three seasons. It would make him the 22nd highest paid wide receiver per year right now. But then think about how good of a value that contract would be in, you know, 2026 and in 2027. I bet you by 2027 he wouldn’t even be a top 30 paid wide receiver. And Meyers is one of the most underappreciated players in the entire National Football League. So, if I’m the Raiders, let’s get the Jacobe Meyers extension done because if George Pickkins does go back on his word and he does end up wanting to get a new contract done here with Dallas, that’s only going to raise the price tag for Jacobe. The George Pickins trade does have an impact on the Raiders because I’m telling you, the Steelers are going to give him a call. You can still hang up, but I don’t want that call to happen because I don’t want Jacobe Myers to get traded. But also what is interesting here is this also could mean, you know, we know that Colt Miller wants an extension. If you’re the Raiders and you were sitting here going, “Well, maybe I would have given Colt Miller an extension before Jacobe Meyers, but now the George picking trade means I’m going to go out and give Meers one before Colton Miller.” We’ve talked about both of these players multitude of times already this off season, and we know that both of these players have zero million guaranteed, one year left on their contract, and their brand new regime just came in. And the Raiders went out and signed, not signed, drafted three wide receivers. Like I I bet you there’s going to be teams out there that go, “Well, the Raiders drafted Jack Bess in round two, who’s got a very similar skill set to Jacobe. Maybe they’re trying to move on from him.” Or, “Hey, the Raiders went out and they drafted two offensive linemen in round three. Maybe they’re trying to move on from Colton Miller.” My question of the nation is this. If you had to pick right now after the pick and trade, after we’ve already heard some of the rumors around Colt Miller this off seasonason, who do you think gets extended first? If you think it’s Colt Miller, I want you to type KM. If you think it’s Jacobe Myers, give me a JM. This will be the pinned comment on today’s show, which means it’s the number one question that I want you to answer. I’m going to sit up here and I’m going to go. Both of these extensions need to get done and I’m looking at you Spytech. I’m looking at you P Carroll. I’m looking at you Tom Delaney who does a lot of the deals. To me, you got to get both of these extensions done by June 10th. That is the start of mandatory mini camp for the veterans. The rookies, they’re going to start reporting here on Friday, May 9th. And that’s going to go May 9th, May 10th, and May 11th. I am still going to say that my guess is that Colton Miller’s deal does get done first because this is an organization that does value the trenches. And as happy as what Miller has looked the past few times that I’ve seen him at practice, obviously I’m not at practice, but just seeing the photos and the conversations that I’ve had with Colton, for him to show up now when it’s not mandatory tells me that things are starting to trend in the right direction. So because of that, I still think Miller’s deal gets done first. But if you’re the Raiders, let’s just pick up the pace here a little bit. We have plenty of salary cap to get both of these deals done. And I don’t want any drama around Colton Miller. I don’t want any drama around Jacobe Myers because both of those players are critical for the success this year, next year, and in 2027 as far as I’m concerned. Luckily, one of them got back to me. And then I also have a really good source at the Raiders organization that gave me his two cents on the Christian Wilkins injury. And I have held out talking about this because I wanted to get a response from some people that I trust inside of the Raiders organization. So if you don’t know the background story here around Wilkins, he suffered a foot injury in week five last season, missed the rest of the year that we know. He underwent surgery to repair a Jones fracture in his left foot October 8th, 2024. When you go and Jones fractures are can be a big pain in the butt. I’m not going to lie to you, especially when you’re as big as what Wilkins is. But the expectation is that he’s going to be ready week one. That’s the hope, right? Wilkins though, he’s been working out all off season and there hasn’t really been, I would say, a reason to be concerned that Wilkins isn’t 100% healthy. That is until a report came out from somebody by the name of Tony Pauline. And I think when you look at Pauline and the reports he has, I think you got to look at the Pauline reports very similar to the way that we would see a report, you know, from Vic Tafer. I know he doesn’t work for the Raiders anymore, but you have to take it with a grain of salt. Pauline said that I am told there was serious concern over a foot injury. He also mentioned before the draft Wilkins could miss some time to start the season. And not only did Pauline say this once before the draft, he also then doubled down on that exact same report after the NFL draft. And here’s what he had to say. They addressed their interior of that defensive line position. As I mentioned right before the draft, there is a problem with Christian Wilkins’s foot. He may need another procedure. They added two potential pass rushers on the inside, Watonka Hemingway and JJ Piggee. Now, I give Pauline credit here. Like, I would think the exact same way. I don’t think Trey Tucker’s going to get traded, but the Raiders went out and drafted three wide receivers. So, it makes me sit here and go, hm, I wonder if they can move on from Trey Tucker. If you’re reporting that Christian Wilkins is dealing with a foot injury and then the Raiders go out and they draft two defensive tackles, I could understand the thought process of going, “Well, they did that because of the Wilkins foot injury.” Now, again, I have held out on talking about this, but I had one Raiders player tell me this today. Nah, haven’t heard nothing. He seems good to me. So, this player, again, like I think anytime you hear from a guy, some guys are going to give you the truth, some guys are going to give you some of the coach speak. This is somebody that is always giving me really solid information and maybe he doesn’t know what’s happening. But then I also reached out to another Raider source and this is what he told me. He had a boot on last month but haven’t heard he will miss time this season. My point of what I’m trying to talk about here is this. I have not gotten any information at all that would concern anybody that Christian Wilkins is dealing with a foot injury. And I think also when you’re talking about a player that is as big as Wilkins, like we’re not talking about a bottom of the roster guy. We are talking about one of the highest paid defensive tackles in the National Football League. You’re telling me Ian Rapaort would have a scoop? You’re telling me Adam Shfter would have something? Are you trying to tell me that the only guy that apparently has a source on this is Tony Paulie? And if I’m wrong, I’ll take the L’s for that. But I just have a hard time believing that Tony Pauline has a connection that nobody else inside the Raiders organization has because all I’ve heard is Wilkins, yes, did have a foot issue. Yes, was in a walking boot last month. But everything from what I hear from players and from people inside of that building say that Wilkins is going to be ready to rock and roll week one of the NFL season, which is the only thing that I really care about. Let’s get a deal done with Jacobe. Let’s get a deal done with Colton Miller. But if Pickkins does get that deal done, it could boost up his value, which could hurt the Raiders in terms of getting a deal for Jacobe. And then the Wilkins injury, I haven’t heard anything about it. Doesn’t sound like there’s any concern inside of the Raiders organization. So, I’m hoping that there’s nothing going on with that foot.
