Well, a little bit different, you know, got washed out coming off a rain out in a great series in Anaheim, not just for you, but for the team day off, washed out one today, two tomorrow on a getaway day. How how odd is that with that schedule? Just the all the waiting and stuff like that. The expected off day was nice for us and then uh getting the game canceled yesterday. So just a lot more sitting around the hotel and and waiting to play again, but yeah, I have one tonight and then the two tomorrow. Probably get home a little late tomorrow night. But luckily we’ll have a night game the next day and all work out for us. But hopefully we just get all these three in uh no problem and get back home. Yeah. Listen, I want I want to talk to you about uh your your offensive uh explosion here on the road trip. Good road trip for you thus far. Eight for 26, two home runs, seven RBI. Six of those stakes came in one game. We’ll get to that in a second. But it looks like you’re getting your timing down a little bit better. It just feels like you’re you’re making some necessary adjustments that you want to make at the plates. How are you feeling this thus far? Uh I feel good. I mean, I felt uh confident all season. I feel like I’ve been seeing the ball well all season and had good at bats. just kind of the contact wasn’t there and it was uh way too many ground balls early on and I was just beating it to second base and getting myself out a lot. So that’s Let’s see if we can figure out the following baseball slang term. Today’s phrase is oppo taco. Do you know what it means? [Music] Oppo taco. A home run hit to the opposite field. Your moments like this and more on the MLB app and MLB.com Jackson gets the start for the Tigers tonight. This is really two of the top pitching prospects in all of baseball going toe-to-toe tonight. Chase Dolander is on the mound for the Rockies. Rockies are taking the field. Let’s check tonight’s starting lineup. Bobby, thank you very much, Dan. And what up though, Detroit Tiger fans? Your starting line is brought to you by Comra. Only one bank’s been committed to Michigan since 1849. That’s Comica. We’ll start first with your visiting Detroit Tigers. They’ll go this way, leading off Carrie Carpenter in right field. Labor Torres is at second base, batting second. Coith is DH, batting third. Riley Green will play left field and hit fourth. Vincent Tolson is over at first base, batting fifth. Zack McKenry will man the hot corner and bat sixth. Batting seventh is your catcher Dylan Dingler. And batting eighth is Trey Sweeney at shortstop and batting ninth is your center fielder Javier Bayz. For the home standing Colorado Rockies, they’ll go this way. Leading off and playing center field is Brenton Doyle. Jordan Beck is in left field batting second. Ryan McMahon will hit third and play third base. Hunter Goodman will be behind the plate cleaning up. Michael Togglio will bat fifth and play first base. Nick Martini will DH and bat sixth. Mickey Moniac will play right field and bat seventh. Keys to the game are brought to you by Bell’s Founders and Long Drink. Proudly distributed by Rave Associates. All right, we’ll we’ll talk about playing in altitude throughout the course of the three games, I’m sure. And how about just the keys against Chase Dolander tonight. Hard throwing rookie right-hander. Both of these rookie starters tonight making just their sixth start of their major league careers. Yeah, Joe Dolander’s got a good fast ball. He’s got a good arm. He’ll ride that thing about 96 97 mph consistently. It’s a cutter, curveball, and change up. He’ll use all four of those pitches, but mainly he’s going to throw that fast ball. He’s going to give you plenty of fast balls to hit. Get them on the plate, you got a good chance. You know, like Dan, you talked about the breaking ball doesn’t do as much as you think it will do. So, adjusting to that early on, I think, will be a thing for the Tiger hitters, but the common theme all year, and the thing they’ve been very good at, you’re going to get fast balls to hit, lay wood to them, and let the results be what they are. Don’t try to chase the power in this ballpark. Let the results be what they are. That’s really one of the keys, isn’t it? Don’t chase the power. Don’t chase the power. It’s real easy to try to get your shoulders out of line just a little bit. Swing up just a little bit. Get this ball in the air. No, no, no, no. stay in the gaps, do what this team has been doing, they will be just fine. Game time weather butts by Clean Express Auto Wash, the official car wash of the Detroit Tigers. Fast, easy, clean, and free vacuums. 54Β° as we get this game underway with some sunshine in the outfield all the way toward the infield. A big rectangle of sunshine from left to right. Tigers come in at 22 and 13. The Rockies 6 and 28. Tigers now get ready to face the 23-year-old from Evans, Georgia, Chase Dolander. the first pitch swing and a miss. High fast ball. We’re expecting to see a little bit of that tonight, Bobby. Yeah, that foreseen fast ball cutter curveball change up. That fast ball, he’ll right at the top of the zone. That’s his best pitch. Swinging a soft ground ball to first as he goes away with the change up to get the easy ground ball. Carrie Carpenter grounds out to start the game and we are underway here at Kors Field in Denver. It’s just a gorgeous setting for baseball. Love this ballpark. it just at altitude. Remember, there’s no other ballpark that’s more than a th000 ft above sea level. A mile high, they mean it. It’s legit. A mile high and it just means everything is increased here. Singles, doubles, triples, runcoring, home runs. And why every year this is the best runscoring ballpark in baseball. Torres swings, taps at foul right at home plate. Dolan Dolander is coming off a very good start against Atlanta. Some ups and downs his first four starts. Curveball misses down and away. First pitch today brought to you by McLaren Health, the official healthc care system of the Detroit Tigers. And our pitching matchup, Chase Dolander against Jackson. Brought to you by your local Toyota dealers. For all the latest offers, go to Toyota.com. The 1-1 swinging a long slicing foul deep down the right field line. 347 down the left field line. That’s very similar to Kica Park. And then the wall goes straight out. And then the dimensions become kind of like the old Com Park. 390 in the left center field gap. 415 to straightaway center. 375 in the right center field gap, but a much higher wall. And then 350 on the right field line. Curveball sweeps away. two balls and two strikes. The Tigers four and three on this road trip and they have hit incredibly 20 home runs in seven games in Houston and LA. They just hit 13 in the four game series, the series win in Anaheim. Torres takes a pitch low and away 25 innings of work so far. Bobby, there’s some things to like if you’re the Rockies. It’s been kind of low walks. the strikeout in inning. The 3-2 swinging a foul back to the screen. No, absolutely. I mean, you talk to the Rockies people, they say this young man has got a really good arm, a good head on his shoulders. They like his breaking ball. Again, it’s tough to have a good breaking ball up here. You know, that difficult is with what it does in altitude, but it’s a live arm. Kind of a low three- quarter delivery, slinging type delivery, but it gets on you quick. 32 swinging a fly ball right field. This is deep going back. Moniac and he will have room at the fence. Sounded good off the bat, but Moniac had all the way. So, the sun is setting behind us. That means Moniac kind of looking into the sun. Right field being the sunfield here at Courtzfield. And a big swatch of sunshine. Big rectangle goes from the left field foul line all the way to the right field foul line. Shadows will lengthen in the early innings. Sunset just about an hour and 15 minutes from now. Dua brings it co first pitch curve ball for a strike. So what does altitude do to an average curve ball? If an average curveball breaks 9 in vertically, 9 in horizontal. That changes to about seven and seven swing and a miss. And suddenly that pitch that might go strike to ball below the strike zone is in the strike zone. It’s it it it it messes with you at first. It really does. And you have to just kind of as soon as you can get your bearings and just adjust. There’s nothing there’s nothing you can do about it. It’s the same for both teams. Obviously, the Tigers just aren’t used to that. The O2 ground ball softly foul. Good to see this bat heat up. Keith rewarded for his good last several games. His first three home runs of the year have come in the last five games and up in that three spot. Hey, get hot. Start climbing the ladder a little bit. Low score. We’re just underway. Base is empty. Two outs. The O2 was swinging a foul out of play deep down the third base line. Overall, Keith hitting 190. But to see him heat up on this road trip, he’s stinging the ball right now. I can’t get over that moment when he hit opposite field off a back door slider in a 02 count. That tells you your swing is short. He’s not trying to do anything else with the ball. Down and away. Left side of the infield. Very good third baseman. McMahon is deep and off the line. Shorts stop. Treyo is up the middle. Dolander the righty into his motion. The one-two swinging a foul out of play. He poured 98 in. So Torres saw seven pitches before hitting a fly ball to right. Well, Keith will see at least seven pitches in his trip to the plate. Start of a three-game series and all three games will be played in the space of well just about 24 hours. Straight double header tomorrow starting at one. The one two ground ball foul. Well, he’s not afraid afraid to throw that curve ball, Bobby. He’s not. I mean, it’s it’s at this point it is what it is. He knows this is the environment I’m in. I’ve got to pitch here. I’ve got to make it work. And coming up, that curve ball was a weapon for him. Good fast ball, good line and break on that curveball. The one two low and away. Mark Riper is our home plate umpire. Pitch number eight in the at bat is ball two. Edwin Mennez at first. Nicholens at second. Vicarapons is the crew chief. He’s at third. Ninth pitch of the at bat on the way. swinging a soft ground ball grabbed by Dolaner. That’s a nice play. Very athletic play. Pounced off the mound, jumped up in the air on the grass to the right of the mound. Made it and just kind of handed it off to totally at first. One, two, three, first inning. Tigers made him work a little bit, but it’s a one. Take a hack at guessing which baseball player or manager said the following. I really don’t know what to say. I’m just uh so happy I gave something. These people cheer. We all did. I mean, it was a great game. Both teams played incredible. A great game. The bottom of the first inning. First pitch to Brenson Doyle, a right-handed hitter. Past ball at the knees. 95 from Jackson job. The Rockies facing the 22-year-old native of Irving, Texas. The strike one ground ball fouled down the third baseline. Making his sixth start. Bobby, last time out, a little bit of a shortened start, but remember been off for 12 days. Yeah, that was a long stretch for anybody to not participate or or compete, but you’re right. Love his stuff. Four seam fast, two seam fast, change up, curve ball, and the cut slider. in the dirt with that slider, which has been so far, Bobby, his best pitch. Yeah, I agree. It’s the revamped slider. He had one he was using the the metrics liked it. The hitters gave him a different set of feedback. So, they went to work on it. He’s come up with this one. One, two in the dirt. Curveball replaced the true slider that everybody was raving about with a high spin. AJ described this as a cut slider to start the year, so that’s what we’re calling it. It goes into the books on Statcast as a slider. 22 swinging a miss. It’s wicked. 91 sharp down and away to Brenton Doyle. Jackson, that’s one of the best ones he’s thrown by. And that’s funny. He says, “I got your altitude problems right here. Have some of this, Mr. Doyle. That’s disgusting.” Down and away. Starts on the outer third. Looks like a fast ball. And then just darts dead left. Holy smokes. That’s That movement at the plate was tremendous. And you’re absolutely right. late with that movement, too. Good line on that pitch. [Applause] Into at the corners, middle of the infield back at the plate. Fly ball popped softly into right. Maybe a broken bat. And that’s going to drop in front of Terry Carpenter who will flip it in. Just a broken bat. Blue for Jordan Beck. Throughout their history, the Rockies have averaged. Think about this. for the entire history of this ballpark. They’ve averaged six runs a game in this ballpark, which means some years, yes, seven runs a game or more, but this year they are really, even in their bad years, they average well over five runs a game, almost always. Slider strike on the back door to Ryan McMahon for a called strike, but not this year. This offense at this moment is off to one of the worst starts of any offense at Korus Field in its history. Change up misses away. One ball, one [Applause] strike. Ballpark opened in 95. 1-1 fast ball up. Bobby, there just there just aren’t many threats in this lineup. No, there’s not. And you know, again, it’s one of the things you associate with this team and this franchise is guys who are able to go deep. They just don’t have those guys. McMahon’s one of their better hitters. Fly ball center field deep. Bayz back still going. Looking up and it’s gone. A home run. Ryan McMahon launches to straightaway center. He has been struggling mightily this year as has this entire offense. Fourth home run of the year. Two nothing Colorado. Three batters in. Yeah, it was a slider that was middle down. It wasn’t down enough. And Ryan McMahon, this is a guy, this guy’s a good player. He’s having a tough start to the season. very good defender and and and shown to be a pretty good hitter in this league, but he got a hold of that slider, didn’t do a whole lot, and hit it out to dead center field. First pitch fast ball 99 at the knees. Talking with AJ Hinge on the pregame show about how you talk to your pitchers about pitching here. Breaking ball bounces up to home plate. Basically, they don’t address it. They just emphasize keep doing what we have always emphasized. Whatever ballpark you’re in, right? Get ahead. Get to leverage. Put the pressure on opposing hitters by that ground ball deep in the hole. It’s short. That one gets by a diving Trey Sweeney. And there’s another thing that you’ll see. Ball just it just gets to the gaps quicker. That was fairly routine looking ground ball. And that that just scooted by Trey Sweeney. Sure did. Now, that one did have some top spin on it and it was hit pretty hard, but like you said, things just seem to happen a little bit quicker and the ball seems to just go a little bit further up here and and it’s it’s one thing to take ground balls in batting practice and balls off the bat in the outfield. It’s a whole another thing when it’s in the game. So, they’ll get adjusted. They’ll figure it out. Slider on the back door to Michael to home run by the lefty McMahon. Jackson Job has been much tougher on lefties. Again, limited at bats at six for 34. No home runs coming in. Swinging a popup, slicing high through the shadows into sunshine down into the seats to our left. Michael Tolia also off to a slow start at the plate. This is a a bat they really need. 25 home runs last year. First baseman for the Rockies. Curveball down and in. He’s already using that curveball a little bit more than we have seen. Again, kind of a new pitch for him. Didn’t use it a whole lot. Hasn’t used it a whole lot so far this year. The one two swinging a popup softly into left center. Riley Green over Indian. Bayz peels off behind him. Makes the catch for the second out. First inning today is brought to you by Rocket Mortgage. Own the dream. In today’s game brought to you in part by Northville Lumber, the official lumber yard of the Detroit Tigers radio network. Just underway in the Rockies 6 and28 Colorado Rockies. They’ve been having a tough time here at home. Jump out to the early two nothing lead on the strength of a Ryan McMahon home run. Lots of lefties in this lineup, but again, Jackson Joe doesn’t mind that. Nick Martini takes a fast ball that sizzles outside at 97 miles an hour. Martini’s been around for a while. Admire guys like this. Slider on the back door, misses away. Going to turn 35 next month. And he’s just kind of that guy that I think managers like having on a team, a veteran presence. He’s never really hid a whole lot. fourth, fifth outfielder who obviously still does some things well that managers like him, but it it really is kind of fascinating. Parts of six years he’s again 34, he’s hit 250. Couple years we’ve hit with a little bit of power, but most years he struggles. The 3 0 fast ball strike. Yeah, those guys can hang around a little bit if they’re in the right situation. There’s a lot of knowhow and knowledge. Even if he’s not a a real premier player, there’s some knowhow and knowledge he can pass on to guys. 3-1. Swinging a little baby popup. That was a cut slider in on the hands. Martini pops it up to third base. McKinstry makes the catch and Jackson Job gets out of the first inning. Two-run home run from R. See if you can figure out the following baseball slang term. We’re in the top of the second inning. And Dickerson, Bobby Scales, glad to have you along. First of three against the Rockies. Tigers haven’t been here very often. This only the third trip here since 2011. Green takes first pitch. Curve ball outside. Torqulson McKinstry to follow. Lefties have the edge against this young right-hander, but righties and lefties have hit him for average in for power. Fast ball outside. Saw during the inning break the home plate umpire took his mask off and walked around. It’s like no that’s not Mark Ripper. That’s Vic Carropazi. Ground ball to second base. Sliding stop and a fine pick by Amodore. He had to adjust to an in between hop ball took off on him and he backhanded it beautifully. Throws out Riley Green. Put a little star next to that one. One up, one down. Let’s ball his first station identification on the Detroit Tigers radio network. [Applause] First pitch slider down and away. Did Spencer Torqulson time for dollars on deck if Zack McKinstry gets a hit this inning. Northfield Lumber will donate to Detroit Blightbusters. North Lumber is Michigan’s number one Trex Steeler. Chase Dolander into his motion. Fast ball 98 at the knees away. That’ll work. Nothing wrong with that If you do that, it could be tough tough on these Tiger hitters today. The 1-1 swinging a little soft fly ball to right. Moniac in makes the catch. Two up, two down. So far, Tigers have not hit one hard in the air. This is the second largest outfield in baseball. the largest belongs to the Kansas City Royals, which is kind of amazing cuz you look at this, you’re like, man, that’s huge. Visually, you could tell me that I’m going to need I need to step it off. We got to go step it off. I need some math done cuz I’m not buying it. Somebody did the math, but it’s they’re both huge and they they’re far above any other ballpark. America is third in terms of the square footage in the outfield, but man does it. When Ronnie Green was going after that ball in the left center field, Gavin, that’s huge. Swinging a foul out of play. Tigers have won their last two series here, 2017, 2023. Winning this series in 2017, they scored 13 runs in three games. So, not exactly an offensive explosion. The 1-1 has both the knees at 98. It’s steady. 97 98 for this righty. And it’s easy, too. That’s the impressive part. There’s not a lot of effort in the delivery. Like we said, Slingy before, he’ll throw that glove hand at you a little bit and then the ball pops out behind us. You don’t get a great look at it. The one two swinging a soft fly ball to center field over to his right toward the left center field. Gap Doyle makes the catch. Just a lazy fly ball. History flies out and the Tigers have gone six up, six down against Chase Dolander. Go to the bottom of the second inning. Your day in baseball starts with MLB Central. Let’s get it started. [Applause] serve at mclaren.org. Vicky Moniac takes fast ball for a strike. Moniac Treyo Amador here in the second inning. Distrike one shot fouled down the first baseline. Both of these teams lead their respective leagues and this is how Colorado I think for a long time has tried to build the staff in ground ball rates. They get the most ground balls. Each pitching staff led to a lot more success by the numbers for the Tigers. Tigers right now have the lowest team RA in the American League. Colorado is right at the bottom. Miami’s having some real struggles this year. Those two are both struggling this year. Line drive into right center field. That one’s going to drop for a base hit. Tommy Vay over to field it on a couple of skips. Mickey Monia on a one-two. He got jammed, but line drive falls in more often than not. Lead off single here in the second. So Bobby, I’m thinking Jackson has a pretty solid sinker. Got a solid ground ball rate. But we didn’t see the center a lot in the first inning. Yeah. Interesting. I not quite sure why it has been a good pitch for him like you said. Perhaps they’re trying to figure out that slider and curveball going to work. Fun attempt bunted to the screen by Allen Treyo. Strike one. Don’t really know why. You know, clearly that’s the plan. They’re they’re, you know, they’ve got a lot more information down there than we do. But at the same time, you know, I I think part of it is you want to see what that slider or what that breaking ball actually is going to look like in this environment. Be interesting to see if they go back to the sinker here in inning number two. Yeah, they went to that cut slider a lot against the lefties in this lineup. And it’s quite a few lefties with the switch hitter [Applause] Tolia. The strike one fast ball perfect. Ah, didn’t get the call. 97 dotted it down and away. Ball one. Oh yeah. Good pitch. Good pitch down and away. Glove side. That’s what you want right there. Job works third base side. The 1-1 swinging to tap foul. The change up down and in. Injury report is brought to you by McLaren Health, the official healthc care system of the Detroit Tigers. Matt Bearling has played two games so far as a DH for Toledo. Check tonight’s box score and update that for you. One for three with four walks in his first two games and a home run. So clearly Matt’s seeing the ball well. He’s seeing the ball well and you know that’s a good sign. He wants to be back. He wants to be back. Yeah. In in all seriousness though, I mean, and I don’t know how long they’re going to play this out, but he does need some time to play and get himself into baseball shape. Swinging miss. Slider sharp down and away. That was a flatfooted flail by Treyo. The Rockies are really missing their superb shortstop. We’ve seen him enough to know that he’s just a heck of a player and it’s just fun to watch. Ezekiel to great shorts stop hit 22 home runs last year. He’s on the IIL right now and they miss it. Elador swings and taps one foul softly down the first baseline. Yeah, Tobar is a good player. Dan, you talked about it for 22 homers last year. Plays a good short stop. Like you said, he’s aggressive and he plays acrobatically at shortstop. He’s worth the price of admission for sure. Strike one high and tight. Third on the second and in and out of the glove of Trey Sweeney just tried to block it. Basically that ball bounced from Dingler and he kind of stood up and just blocked a 1-1 count for Mickey Moniac. That’s his first steal. He’s got terrific speed. That’s the other thing. So think America Park. You’re going to take the extra base more often in this ballpark. You’re going to go first to third, second to home on a single is a lot more automatic here than in a lot of places. Check swing pitch down and in on the curve ball. So definitely breaking out the curveball slider combination more to lefties in these early first two innings. Amodore hitting 179 in his limited at bats 2-1. Slider misses away. Three and one. So the walks and strikeouts not where you want them to be obviously for the Tigers or Jackson Job through his first 20 innings. 10 walks, 14 strikeouts, 3-1s, swinging a long slicing foul out of play. Bobby, you do notice that a lot of walks and this is this is almost well at least a couple per game it feels like are of the variety where that started in Houston. Two started either 02 or one two and then he lost them. Y the others were just four or five pitch walks and he knows it and he’s talked about it trying to make that perfect pitch to get the swing and miss versus just finishing off the at bat. Soft ground ball to first by Torlson over the bag. tags it with his left foot. Over to third goes Moniac. He’s there with two outs. Amodore grounds out softly and the lineup turns over again for Brenton Doyle, the leadoff hitter. And that right there, what just happened is a perfect example. 3-1 count. He gets a fast ball away, beats him with a fast ball away. The best he can do is foul it down the left field line. Now, he could have tried to throw that nasty strike the ball slider at the bottom of the zone. If he lays off now, you walk him, but he didn’t. He threw one that was going to end up in the strike zone away from him. He rolls over to first base. Those are the kinds of things that Jackson job has to do to continue to progress. Soft ground ball off of home. Fielded by McKinstry’s got no play, man. Brenton Doyle has hit it off home plate into score comes Moniac and it’s 3 nothing Colorado. That’s just tough luck for Joe. Like you said, Doyle slider away from him. Chops it into the ground and goes high. It was going to be an unbelievably difficult play anyway because Doyle can run. wasn’t going to happen. Put it in your pocket, Zack McKinstry. But the run comes in, that’s just you can’t roll it out there any better than that. Tough luck. Boy, hits home plate and it takes off. That went about 20 25 ft in the air. Fast ball misses low and outside. So Rocky’s making Jackson job work here in these first two innings. Pitch count climbing toward 40. That’s on the high side. Fast ball bounces up the home plate now two and0 on Jordan [Applause] Beck hitters at home are these top two hitters Doyle and Beck tobar and Tolia who had the best numbers here at home so far two pitch swinging a miss good cut slider to make it two and [Applause] that hitting 260 with some power. 21 swinging a miss. Sinker in. Like to see that, Dan. 95 mph. Just tied him up. Started at inner third and sank off the plate. By the time you make that decision to pull the trigger, that thing’s just eating you up inside as a right-handed hitter. That’s a good pitch right there. Beck debuted last year. This former first round pick from 2022. Struggle. Doyle takes off. This one’s hit high in the air to right center field. Going back to his right. Deep almost to the track. Carrie Carpenter makes the catch. Beck hit it deep to right center. Carpenter hauls it in. Another run for the Rockies. Manufacturer run. Single steel. Bounce out. Bounce out. Tigers bat in the third inning. First of three with the Rockies. They’re down three nothing after two on the Detroit Tigers Radio Network presented by Meyer. Let’s see if you can figure out the following baseball slang term here in Detroit. Dylan Dingler leads off. Three nothing Colorado. We’re in the third. Case Dolander delivers a fast ball low and away. So, five starts. Dolander has given up 28 hits in his 25 innings with eight. Count him eight home runs. 10. Fast ball away. One of the top pitching prospects by consensus. A top 25 prospect in all of baseball. The top prospect for the Rockies. And much like Jackson Job, they’re just watching him develop start by start. The 20 misses low and in. Coming off the start where we went five and two/3 against an Atlanta team that has recovered from their awful start. Five and two/3 just one run on two hits. Three walks, four strikeouts here at Cord 3. Fast ball middle for a called [Applause] strike. And is it fun to look up and down this Tigers lineup and see a whole bunch of productive some numbers over there, huh? That’s good. It is. And it’s not a lot of holes in the lineup. 3-1 fast ball outside Dylan Dingler [Laughter] do his first walk of 20 25 and the dugout erupts. The best part about it is he he took the pitch, looked at the glove and then looked over his right shoulder and everybody starts going bananas. It was great. He flips the bat and goes on to first base. That’s good stuff. Congratulations, Dylan Dingle. I feel like it’s like a first hit. Not a boy. That is funny. Remember the hitter? I can’t remember his first name. Quinn for the Royals back in the day. He had he had a minute of fame. He could hit, but it was like July before he drew his first one. And they literally sent off fireworks. That’s almost impossible. How do you get to July? So, it was really deep into the season. Fly ball left field off the bat of Sweeney running toward the line back. He dives. He will not make the catch and it’s off his glove. It was a fair ball. Over to third goes Dingler. Down to second goes Sweeney. Just off his six RBI day. A double down the line. Beck couldn’t get there. Runners at second and third. Nobody out in the third. That’s a little bit of tough luck, too. It did hit off his glove. It didn’t go far. Dylan Dingler did the right thing. He got to second base and stayed there. Had the ball been caught, he would had plenty of time as the left fielder Beck dove for that ball to get back. But he’s only able to advance to third base because the ball didn’t get far away. But he’s on third. Trey Sweeny’s at second. There’s nobody out here in the third inning. Infield back. Bayas at the plate. First pitch swinging miss late on a belt high fast ball. League average on base plus slugging right around 700 720 most years. A little below 700 in the American League this year. The Tigers have seven batters in the lineup tonight. Bayasa swings, fouls it out of play, slices it over the screen first base side. We’re perched above home plate, just to the third base side. Great vantage point in this beautiful ballpark. The Tigers have seven batters in their lineup tonight with an OPS of 800 or higher. It’s been a while since we’ve seen that sharp ground ball up the middle to center field. A base hit. Dingler will score. Sweeney right behind it. Big turn and hold. Jav Bayz delivers again. What a road trip. Tigers cut into the Rockies lead. It’s now 3-2 Rockies. Nobody out here in the third. That’s a good swing by Jav Bayz. He was in protect mode 02. He gets a curve ball that I don’t even think ever started on the plate. Swept further off. Looked like it was right on the line of left-handed batters box, but he gets enough on it to poke it through the infield into center field for a two RBI single. A boy, Jav, swing it. There it is. was a curveball that didn’t break as much as it would have in at lower altitude. That was definitely flatter for sure. Definitely flatter. Didn’t have much to it. I mean, truly, that’s a pitch that he probably swings and misses at a lower altitude. That’s a heck of a swing. It was. I mean, he went out there off the end of the bat. Couldn’t tell if it glanced off the pitcher Dolander or not. Her ball swinging a miss. Nice way to answer back right after you fall behind. Three nothing early. Carpenter grounded out on the second pitch he saw. It was a fast ball change up combination. His first at bat to strike one. Third ball down and in. One ball, one strike. It’s so fun to talk about the numbers on this road trip, Bobby. I mean, everybody. Gary Carpenter 10 for 27, three home runs, eight RBI’s. just flat getting it done. You like to see it. It is fun watching these guys hit right now. Extends the hands away from the left shoulder as he the bat over. Gets all that weight back on that left rear leg. Launches fast ball down and in. He’s got the good hitters count. Two and one. Patrick Goodman now wants to go out to have a word with his young starter Chase Dolander. It’s a good visit here by Goodman. is no longer visibly frustrated. Lost command a little bit. Go ahead and get back in the zone right down the middle right here. Wouldn’t bother me a bit. You’re always interested to see second time through. We talked about this in Houston debut there of blue ball and those conversations that took place right away. Carpenter, McKinstry, and Torres were all missing early fast balls. Conversations taking place on the bench as you said, you know, that maybe he’s got a little more hop than you think because they were missing fast balls. Grumb ball fouled on the first baseline and what happened? Cole Keith in the second inning hit a home run, his first of the year off a fast ball. There’s two ways to be a really good teammate. And this is number one, run the bases, right? Run the bases the way you’re supposed to run the bases. That shows you shows me you’re a good teammate. And the second one is no matter what you do, pass some information on to your teammates. Hey man, this the ball’s got a little cut to it. It’s got a little finish or it’s a four seamer, but there’s some armside run to it or there’s a little extra hop to it or it’s light. Two-2 ground ball. Base it into right in tight. Got it by him into right field. Javas will scoot over to third. Moniac gets the ball in and the Tigers have runners at the corners. Nobody out here in the third. And again, good hitting by Carrie Carpenter. He was out in front of that change up just a little bit. Rode it out and snuck it past Toy at first base. Jav goes first to third. Tiger still in business with no outs here in the third inning. Why do we talk so often and AJ talks about it? Why he likes having guys on ahead of certain batters? Because he knows, okay, I know he’s going to be on so that first base is going to be holding with him. I think he was talking about Justin Henry Mallaloy last year getting on out of that leadoff spot. Visit to the mound here and here’s a perfect example of why. Terry Carpenter that’s a routine ground ball if off the bag but he’s holding with a runner and it just gets by him. No fun to be a pitching coach in Field. Daryl Scott is the pitching coach out to the mound. Vicarapaza, the home plate umpire to break up the conversation. I think he’s going to Vic’s going to join it for a moment. He likes to talk and uh and he breaks it up. Third inning today as much about Mastercraft heating, cooling, plumbing, and electric for fast service and the best prize choose Mastercraft. Bobby, going back to that, Riley Green talked about it the day after his second two homer game of the road trip in Anaheim. Two homers in the ninth inning. just he was giving a lot of love to the coaches. Yeah, he didn’t really get a chance to get into it the next day. Torres at the plate. First pitch swinging a slicing drive to right field. Moniac over in. He’ll make the catch. Bayz will tag. He will score. Throw goes to second. Sacrifice fly for Gabber Torres. Listen to Tiger fans here in Denver. Tigers have tied it up with three runs in the third at 3-3. That’s a presence here. It’s good. And again, forcing fast ball away. Professional hitting by Glabberto. Go figure that. gets enough of it to right field to score the run. Just a fast ball away. Nice job doing what the ball told you to do. It was up a little bit. Didn’t try to do too much with it. Let’s hit it over here. If I get a hit, great. If not, I’m going to make sure this bad boy is in the air. Tag up. Run scores. Middle of the infield double play depth. Swinging a line drive. Base hit off the bat of Colt Keith. That’s going to drop into left center field. Carpenter will turn and hold at second base. Doyle gets the ball in. Tigers now being very aggressive early in the count. That’s three balls this inning where the first pitch has been put in play. Double sacrifice fly and now the line drive single. No waiting around again. Dolander has a nice has a good arm live fast ball. But if it’s in the middle of the plate, regardless of pitch type, this Tiger team is firing on it. They’re hitting the ball hard all over the yard right now. Let’s go back to the point that Riley made. just talking about how the coaches have created that atmosphere in the cage where you just want to go and hang out. Yeah. And that was one of the top priorities when Michael Badar took over with Keith Buggard. Pitch away to create that atmosphere. But what that leads to, Bobby, it’s a place where they can go hang out, have conversations about baseball, about life, whatever it might be. And then it leads to the better in-game conversations when you need that information that you were talking about about that guy’s fast ball or about that guy’s breaking ball. That’s called culture. And that’s how you build culture. You create a space where guys want to be. They want to be in the cage. They want to be in the cage working. They want to be in the cage talking. And then they share the information because they’re more familiar with each other. The 1-1 away. That’s everything from Tomas Neato gets called up. what what do you like for your for music, you know, so that when he’s hitting in the cage or you’re playing his music, right? I just love the all the things that go into it, but it’s really important. Swinging a fly ball to center field on the line. This one’s deep going back. Doyle, he will stop, make the catch. 400 ft away from home plate. Carpenter heading to third. He will easily get into third. Both Keith almost took off to second, but Dolinder, the pitcher, was backing up third base. That’s a really good swing for Riley Green and it almost got over the head of Doyle who turned one way then the other and then made a nice catch. Yeah, sure is. That was a change up that was up that was down middle and Carrie Carpenter punished that ball. Hit it 414 ft to center field. Carrie Carpenter nice base running right there. I said Carrie Carpenter Riley Green. I meant Riley Green. Nice base running. Bounce tag was off until he saw the ball caught. It was so far away that he’s able to bounce and advance to third. First pitch cutter low and outside to Torlson here to softly ball to right in his five starts. Chase Dolander so far has been much tougher. Second trip to the order. That’s a good sign for a young pitcher. Tigers though had some very successful swings at the end of the first time through in the start of the second. Torlson takes a cutter at the knees for a called strike. Three tie runners at the corners. Amodore at second base shades up the middle. The outfield deep. They play Torqulson to pull slightly. Fouled out of play. Slider away. One ball, two strikes. By the numbers, her ball gets the most swing and miss so far. Soft tap foul for Chase Dolander. Still one and two on Spencer [Applause] Tolson. Fast ball has been the most hitable pitch. Crew ball has been his best pitch. Slider looks pretty good tonight, too. It does. Good line on that. It’s short cutterish, if you will. That curveball has a good shape to it, too. Good downward break. The one two again to Torlson swing and a Q job off the end of the bat. Trickles down the first baseline. That’ll be fielded by Dolander. Flips it down to Tia, the first baseman. Put out goes one three. Tigers send eight men to the plate and score three. And at the bottom of the third inning, three-3 game, Tigers and Rockies in Colorado. This is the home of Detroit Tigers baseball presented by Meyer. Get ready for Tigers baseball with Carbless. MLB Tonight’s National pregame show weekdays at 5 Eastern on MLB [Applause] Network. Ryan McMahon leads off. We’ve got a three-3 game in the bottom of the third inning. McMahon a Hunteria Hunter Goodman and Tolia in tight. Rest of the infield back. The outfield plays his left toy go the opposite way just slightly. McMahon home run was to straight away center off a slider and he crushed it. Jackson Joe had to work hard in the second inning. Rockies scratched out a run. Tigers had just evened up the game with three. Top half of the inning. Curveball strike. I like that he’s throwing the curveball more, Bobby. I do. And especially one-1 count there. Able to land it for a strike. That’s big. The one two change up at the belt. Not where he wants it, but it’s got to be a strange thing for a young pitcher. It’s like, okay, I’ve got this curveball. I like the shape of this curveball. Everybody tells me it’s not going to break here in Colorado. 2-2. Change up. Mrs. Low. Three and two. But you got to just go out and throw it. Just got to throw it. You can’t be afraid of it. You got to figure out what it is and and how it’s going to come off your hand and what it’s going to do. 3-2 like that pitch. Busted him in at 97. McMahon fouled it straight back to the screen. Yeah, he was late on that. That’s an attitude here from Jackson. Joe poured 97 in. A lot of guys would be afraid to go in in this ballpark. He’s not. Got it in there. All he could do is foul it off. 41 pitches through two innings for Joe. 3-2 up and away. first walk. Two strikeouts for Job. So you look at the first pitch strike throwing. Chase Dolander has a lower walk rate than Jackson Job. These two rookies in his 25 innings. Jackson Job though throws a lot more first pitch strikes. Yeah. And I think that’s always kind of a leading indicator. How good a striketh thrower is this guy? What is his walk rate going to look like? He’s right now at an actually above average rate of first hit strikes and yet the walk rate it’s above five. It’s early. Yeah. But I really do believe the track record says Jackson Job is going to have a low walk and in the end you would think a strikeout rate somewhere around a strikeout an inning with this stuff. Swinging a foul out of play. Yeah, Dan. I I think that the with the stuff his strikeouts are definitely going to kick up tick up. But here’s the thing, like you said, and we talked about this earlier, he’ll get to O2, he’ll get the one two, then he’ll let guys wrigle off the hook. And when that comes down, you’ll see the walk rate come down and you’ll see the strike strikeout rate go up for sure because he’s got weapons all throughout his arsenal. The 1-1 fast ball low and away. You can see try to get a little extra and that to Hunter Goodman again. It’s Doyle back. McMahon’s off to a terrible start, but obviously one of their key hitters, Goodman, these top four. And I would argue that Michael Tolley on deck is number five in terms of guys who have a a bit of a track record who are threats even if they’re off to quiet starts and then the lineup becomes a little more pitchable after that fast ball for a strike to make it 2-2. I would agree with that. It get it gets short after Tolia. Joe Bs third base side of the rubber. The two twos swing in a foul out of play. Slider away. Get cutter. Slider. We call it cut slider. If that’s what AJ calls it, we’ll call it that as well. Whatever Skip wants, right? It’s a light breeze tonight. Fool night in Denver. 22 up and in. Did he hit him? He did not somehow. Hunter Goodman got out of the way of a neck high 97 mph fast. Yeah, that was close. That was close. Nothing in it. Certainly Joe wasn’t trying to go up around his head and neck. That was truly one of those up and in pitches. Well, Turk believes in standing a guy up before he goes soft away. See if he goes soft away. 3-2 swinging a popup on a slider down. Carpenter a few steps to his right in the right center field gap gets behind it. Makes the catch. Hunter Goodman softly ball for the first out here in the third. Rockies are making Jackson work hard here in the third. Pitch count is climbing. Two long at bats. A seven pitch at bat for McMahon. Seven pitch at bat for Hunter Goodman. Today’s game brought to you in part by Mastercraft Heating, cooling, plumbing, and electric for fast service. And the prize choose Mastercraft. This series also brought to you in part by Meer, official partner of the Detroit Tigers. Highf fly ball to right field off the bat of Tullia. And that one’s deep. That one is way back. And that one is gone off the foul pole in right field. Two-run shot for Michael Tullia, his fourth of the year. And the Rockies jump back on top. The only question was fair or foul. And he hit the foul pole. 5-3 Rockies in the third. Yeah, that was a slider down and into a left-handed hitter. Usually not a good recipe. That slider didn’t do a whole lot. We talked about how little the breaking ball breaks and that one did virtually nothing. That that slider right there was a bad fast ball and totally a hitter of the mile just like you said Dan hit off the fair pole for a two-run homer. is interesting how much he has thrown that cut slider. Two lefties in this game. Again, they had the game plan. They know how to attack. One thing the Tigers have obviously done very well. You lead the American League in RA, but team ERA 35 games in below three. Nick Martini swings and taps an 02 pitch foul right at home plate. Yeah, 22 sliders already. Wow. 22 sliders and just 25 fast balls. And and oddly enough, I think the breaking ball of the two. It’s the best one right now is the curve ball. Soft ground ball to first getting around it. Torqulson over the bag. Crosses it with his right foot for the second out. Two up. Two outs here in the third inning. Two runs in for the Rockies. This series goes back to 2003. Tigers lead all time 20-9 and then again the third time they’ve been here in Colorado since 2011. There have been some lowscoring series or been some highscoring series. Tonight has the makings of a game that well might produce a few runs. First pitch curve ball strike one. You’d like to see him use that to steal strike one. It’s the one that’s working right now. I know he likes the slider but the curveball is really good. Fast ball 96 just below the knees. 15 16 pitches. That’s an average number of pitches in a major league inning. Swinging a miss. Good change up. Best one he’s thrown tonight. That faded away from the left emmonia. Absolutely did again. Didn’t sink a lot. We talked about that. But there was some good armside run to it horizontally. The one-two bounced the curve ball left side of the infield. McKinstry Sweeney. We’re talking about the stretch of 23 games in 24 days that just ended on Sunday in Anaheim. Trey Sweeney played every inning. Wow. Of every one of those 23 games. The 2-2 change up in the dirt. AJ made sure that everybody got a little bit of rest before coming to Colorado except Trey Sweden. Well, that tells you how much you trust him. I mean, and again, it just it just shook out that way, but he’s done a nice job out there. Had a good road trip. 3-2 swinging a high slicing drive down the left field line. Three levels of seating here at Puritzfield in the left field foul pole and then all the way to the right field foul pole and then the two levels of seating in right field go all the way out to the rock pile in straightaway center. 3-2 line drive right to second base. Faber Torres grabs it. Second two-run home run of the day. This time by Michael Tolia gives the Rockies a lead. We head to the fourth inning. 5-3 Colorado after three on the Detroit Tigers Radio Network presented by Meer. Take a hack at guessing which baseball player or managers follow. It’s important for the Tigers to continue, and they will, this is who they are, but continue to stay in the fight. Just keep stacking good at bats after good at bats. You have to be patient in this yard. You can’t, you’re going to get hit in the mouth, especially, you know, in this runcoring environment. Just got to be able to stand up and hit them back. So, Bob, we’ve talked about the improve major major improvements for the Tigers this year against the fast. Dylan Dingler fouls it down the right field line and it’s a big deal obviously. Well, now teams are going to start to pitch them a little bit differently. Absolutely. And this is where you would expect someone like Dylan Dingler up and in that clipped him. Dylan Dingler gets hit by a pitch. It was actually caught by the catcher Goodman. That puts two on. But we talked about it with Dingler. He hadn’t drawn a walk again. great reaction when he drew his first walk, first time up from the Tigers dug out. But you made the point a week or so ago, hey, if they’re going to continue to throw him strikes and he can put a good swing on him, he’s got a good hard hit rate. He’s been hitting for extra base power and hitting for average, keep swinging. What are you going to say to him? The answer is to keep swinging good pitches, period. And leave it alone because his path is good. He’s been the at bats are ending when they’re supposed to end, which means he’s firing on the pitches he’s supposed to fire and hitting them hard. So, as a hitting instructor or whoever you you’re not going to say, “Hey, Dylan, you don’t have a walk. We need you to walk one time.” That’s not what’s that’s what’s not going to happen. Pass ball up and away to Trey Sween who doubled his first time up. First pitch swinging, dropped a double down the left field line. You notice the left fielder Beck is a little further toward that left field line this time. Two on, nobody out. Tigers down two. 10 fast ball away. But this is when the walks will come. Now that the word’s getting around, this team can hit a fast ball. This guy can hit a fast ball. Absolutely. Walks are a byproduct of a solid approach. You do what you’re supposed to do in your approach. You sting the ball. You hit it in gaps. You’re going to get your walks. Going to be pitching around you. Swinging a foul straight back. Pass ball. Challenge him. Thigh high middle. Trey Sweeney probably feels like he missed an opportunity there. And how fun at the end of playing 23 days, 23 games in 24 days. Trey Sweeney had a six RBI day. My goodness. Have a day, kid. The 2-1. Whoa. A play up and away. He guided the curveball really for the first time tonight. That was just a complete non-competitive miss right there way into the right-handed batters box. Nolander hitters count the 3-1 swing in a miss can do that just challenge the 97 away. That’s six RBI game means that Trace became just the fourth Tigers shortstop in history to have a six RBI game or better. Up and away. Sweeney draws a walk. Base is darn loaded on a walk, hit batter, and a walk. Right now, opponents don’t want to see this guy struting to the plate. How about that? Jav Bayz 10 for his last 25. Three doubles, three homers, and 11 RBI’s. Bullpen getting busy for the Rockies. Earl Scott, the pitching coach, man, he has had to wear a p out to the mound. Rockies don’t pitch well either at home or on the road. In the in the hitting department, it’s almost always a big home road split. What are you supposed to do? You got a ballpark. the Tiger or Rockies for the most part in their history have taken advantage of a very hitter friendly ballpark. As the pitching coach here, I can only imagine. I mean, you just have the level of patience you have to have with these guys. There’s going to be times where you just got to tell him to hang in there. There’s nothing else to do. You know, Buck Black has talked about that through the years. Former pitcher, former pitching coach, and now manager of the Rockies. Just you really, it is a lot of work on the mental side. There’s there’s nothing else you can do except kept keep firing, try to make quality pitches. Abby Bayz takes first pitch cutter way away. Ends up way over in the left-handed batters box. Bases are loaded, nobody out. Beginnings of a perhaps classic Burfield shootout. The one perfect slider on the outside end. for the cutters. 89 sharp break away. Not a big break for a cutter really. And the slider’s a little tighter. 86. Two distinctly different pitches so far. The 1-1. Oh man, the misses are huge. Fast ball away. Great grab by Goodman, the catcher. He had to throw himself at that one. 98 over in the left-handed batters box. He’s really out of sync right now. That front side is leaving long before that arm comes through causing a big miss. His arm side glove side the 2-1 swinging a shot into center field. A base hit. Two more RBI’s for Bayzing and Dingler coming in. He will score. Throw to second base. Diving back is Sweeney. Jav Bayz has a four RBI night going after two at bats. We’re tied at five. Nobody out here in the fourth. That That’s good hitting by Jav Bayz for one reason. There were massive misses in this at bat by Chase Dolander and he gets the one pitch that’s on the plate and doesn’t try to do too much with it. Again, I’ve said it a thousand times this year, but these guys aren’t trying to do too much with the pitches they’re getting. That was the cutter on the outer outer third. He just guides it up the middle for RB two RBI single. That’s such good hitting from Jav Bayz. You’re right. They are sticking to what they’ve been doing all year long. All year long. And that’s so important in this ballpark, not to get silly with your approach because the ball flies. It absolutely flies here. And it’s real easy to get silly, to try to get silly and try to go to the downs. And not only does it mess you up for this series, great moments in baseball have been broadcast on the radio since 1921. Smith corks one to right down the line. It may go. So crazy, folks. So crazy. It’s a home run and the Cardinals have won the game by the three-2 and a home run by the Wizards. That’s the next unforgettable call on the MLB app and MLB.com. The big hits. A home run hit to the opposite field. Boston with an oppo taco. His 13th and it’s a one-run game. Expand your vocabulary by listening to every game. [Music] [Music] [Applause] Two men on, nobody out. Top of the order. Carrie Carpenter at the plate. Jake Bird coming out of the Colorado bullpen. It is a righty loaded bullpen. And it’s a bullpen that’s off to a pretty solid start. The problem is if the rotation doesn’t improve, they’re going to get worn out really quickly. Bird is terrific. Has been terrific so far through 20 innings of work. Do notice the bullpen walks a lot of guys. First pitch sinker, swinging a miss. Yeah, Jake Bird out of that Colorado bullpen. It’s a slider, sinker, curve ball, and a cutter. Cutter’s only thrown about 2% of the time. That three pitch mix, sinker, slider, curveball are his weapons. The strike one. Curve ball misses away. One for two for Carpenter. Batting for the third time in the fourth inning. Three nothing lead for Colorado. Tigers scored three in the third to tie it up. Rockies on a home run from Tolia. Made it 5-3. Tigers have tied it up on hobby by his second. Two-run single of the game. Swinging a pop up softly into center field. Doyle is in. He’s under it and he makes the catch. Runners have to hold right where they are. [Applause] One out, two on, two runs in in a five5 game. Opponent pitching changes brought you a game by Primitive Performance. Stay in the game with Primitive Performance in the fast acting CBD Topical Cream. Instant replay is brought you a game by the Sam Bernstein Law Firm when you need the right call. Made a 2,800 call. Sam brings up Glaver Torres. First pitch, we hear the grunt. Slider backed up way off the plate inside. Thought it was interesting talking with AJ before the game on the pregame. Bobby, when I asked about the improvement against sinkers, against four seam fast balls, but especially against sinkers for the Tiger hitters this year. The first guy he mentioned was Gabber Torres. Strike on the inside corner. It’s players we’ve added, he said, and you mentioned Gabber right away, as well as the improvements made by the guys on this roster, but I don’t think there’s any question he feels this guy has helped everybody else 100%. Not just at the plate, but his influence in the clubhouse. One-1 slider misses low. Two and one on Torres. 55 game. We’re in the fourth and in the office that is the batting cage. I mean, just the conversation. I mean, can you imagine the the wealth of knowledge he has that he’s bringing over here? guys are still tapping that right now for the first time. Uh that that level of information. Slider on the front door gets a called strike. Glitter is one of the very best in the American League against two seam sinking fast balls really in the last several years. And it is two different categories. When you talk about a team being good against fast balls, you have to divide it because they do the hitting staff does and hitters do between forcing fast balls and sinking fast balls. Obviously, two different shapes and movements and how they are used. The 2-2 sinker sinks out of the strike zone. Three and two on Glabber Torres. And part of it with Glaver is he’s got such a short swing and he’s got great hands. He has excellent hand action. Short swing, really tight turn. He’s able to get that barrel from the inside to the baseball quickly. 3-2 fly ball left center field on the run. Doyle back back the left fieldielder will come over and make the catch as Doyle peels off behind him. Throws it in on one hop to the short side. Treyo don’t think he got everything behind the swing. You can see a little bit extended. Easy for Beck to track it down in left center. Yeah, he was out on that front foot a little bit on that slider. Saved his hands. And that’s what good hitters do. They save their hands and throw the barrel at it. He got the barrel on it, but there was nothing behind it like you said, Dan. And so it was just a lazy fly ball. 20 innings of work, 13 walks issued by Bird and 29 strikeouts. So, his big improvement as Keith takes a spinning breaking ball away, ball one. Walks are still high as they were last year, but the walk strikeout rate has gone from seven to 13 for nine. Line drive. Base hit into center for Cole Kei. Sweeney around third. He will score. Bayasa scoots over to third. Tigers take the lead. Keith delivers here in the third of his second hit of the night. 65 Tigers. You talk about hitting the two sing fast ball. Dan, that’s what that was. 94 mph. Sinking down and away from Colt. Keith didn’t hit it especially hard, but it was good enough to dump it into center field for a base knock. Tommy scoots around to third base. First and third here with two outs. Two outs. It brings up Riley Green. Righty Bird works third base side. First pitch spins the slider. He started that one way over in the right-handed batters box and it kept digging for the outside corner and grabbed it for a called strike. Bird is a right. He’s gotten much better against lefties this year. They really had their way with him last year. Ground ball fouled down the first baseline. Hit 300 with Howard against Bird last year and this year they have hit 200 in their early bats. 7 for 35 with no power. McMahon’s off the line deep at third. Shorts stop Treyo is up the middle. Outfield doesn’t move a whole lot. They shift to the left just slightly on Green. Flip over to first almost handcuffed trail or a toolia on top of the plate. Very upright relaxed stance. Hands are tight really by the left ear. See coxabad over that left shoulder swinging a miss. Curve ball down. Riley Green on an 02 strikes out. Two in the third for the second straight inning. The Tigers send eight men to the plate and score three. We head to the bottom of the fourth inning. We got the makings of a wild one here in Colorado. 65 Tigers. This is the home of Detroit Tigers baseball presented by Meyer. It’s a great night for baseball. This matchup features some of the best talent in the game. A lot of power, a lot of marquee names. [Applause] This game brought to you in part by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan. Ready to help Jackson getting offensive support now with a 6-5 lead in the fourth inning. It’s a cool night in Denver, but Kors Field is playing like well Kors Field. Fast ball on the outside corner for a called strike. 8 91 hitters. Treyo Amador Doyle. Two two-run home runs for the Rockies against Joe tonight. Fast ball sinks low and away again. A lot of lefties in this lineup. Switch hitter Tolia Martini Moniac McMahon Commodore on deck is a switch hitter to another left-handed bat. Treyo fouls it down the left field line. Couple of three-run innings for the Tigers. Rockies have scored in each of the first three innings. the one-two soft ground ball foul. So, building a ballpark and added an in altitude. You have to have an attitude. It’s like, well, how how big why not just move the fences back more, right? So that there aren’t as many home runs, but swinging a foul out of play, it’s a real delicate balancing act. The farther back you push them, the more singles, doubles, and triples there are. And that’s why Kansas City with the biggest outfield by square footage, even if we don’t believe that. Swing a line drive. Base hit it into left. Curve ball that was up and a good swing for Treyo. Lots of long at bats and pretty good chance that it’s going to be a short night for Jackson Joe with that pitch count already at 74. Leading off the fourth inning, just look at the long at bats, Bobby. The last six batters, four have seen six or seven pitches going back to the last inning. That’s a way to rack up pitch count very slider for a strike on the back door to Adela Amador. So it feels like Bobby I mean with the fences where they are this is probably about as good a job as you could do. Yeah I mean it’s it’s right runner goes ground ball to second base down to a need to field it to a little bobble but he’ll flip it to Torqulson to get Aodore down to second Treyo off with the pitch is at second base with one out represents a potential tying run here in the fourth. Let’s pause your station identification on the Detroit Tigers radio network. [Applause] seems that Brenton Doyle first pitch slider strike on the outside edge. No, and you’re right. There’s only so big you can make it and everything would end up being a double and where do you play? I mean, it it would be a mess. I think they’ve done a pretty nice job. Strike one. check swing and a pitch up and in. Fouled it into the dirt right at home plate. Doyle one for two tonight. His hit was right off of home plate. Carropaza was checking down at first to whether that was a swing on Doyle and all heard from the Tiger dugout was foul, foul, foul. Vicons just explained to the dugout, I didn’t see the foul. I got it. I got it, guys. Hang on now. Hang on. Really great chat with Vic in Baltimore a couple of years ago. Yes, it was. Yep. Two years [Applause] ago. The O2 bounces up to home plate. is part of the umpiring crew, usually with our good friend Adam Hamry, the UP native who makes his home here in Denver. And I’m wondering if uh Adam might be umpiring. No, he’d be umpiring tonight cuz in a double header, the home plate umpire in game two usually rests in game one, so he must not be part of this cruise. Swinging a tap foul right off the catcher Dylan Dingler. 65 Tigers, one out, fourth inning. Keep looking at 390 in the left center field gap. So where the left field wall, the one two fast ball just off the plate. Been a strong accurate strike zone for Vic Carapaza. Where the left field fence meets the centerfield fence which comes straight over. That’s got to be four something. the 2-2 fast ball away. I think you’re right. I mean, it again, it’s 4:15 to dead center and it may be, let’s call it 405 or so because of the angle at which it juts out to meet that center field wall that goes straight [Applause] across. 3-2 swinging a highf fly ball center field deep. Bay is backing up. Backpedaling some more. Makes the catch. Get the ball into Trey Sweeney on one bounce. Over to third goes Treyo. He’s there with two outs now. But look at the at bats now, Bobby. Again, another at bat, but Jackson Joe got ahead. No balls, two strikes, and it went to a 3-2. So again, it’s just it’s just part of the learning curve. Yeah. How do I finish the at bat off on ideally one of the next two pitches? And I bet the thing that happens is it’s going to click in for him. And I’m sure sooner than later what’s going to happen. He’s going to strike more guys out. Not trying to strike guys out. Swinging a high slicing drive down the right field line off the bat of Jordan Beck. You know, it’s it’s counterintuitive how those things work, but that’s kind of how it happens. When you stop trying so hard to punch a guy out or you stop trying so hard to do X, Y, and Z, you usually succeed at the thing you’re trying to do by not trying so hard. Yep. Sandy Kofak said something basically to exactly to that effect as his when his career came to an end. He started striking guys out when I started stopped trying to strike them out. Something like that. Wouldn’t want to count on Beck. Beck’s one for two tonight. Fast ball perfect on the outside edge. This is almost surely the end of the night for Jackson Joe. Maybe not. He’s at 85 pitches though coming to the end of the fourth inning. Treyo coming down the line at third. The one two swinging a shot into left field. The base hit. Slider hung up. Jordan Beck rifles a single into left and we’ve got a 66 game here in the fourth. Yeah, just a hanging slider to Pack. He hits it into left field for that RBI single. That will be the end of the night for Jackson Joe McMahon coming up. And uh so far for both managers, their worst nightmares, the start of a three-game series. Neither starter can get through four. The Tigers go to the bullpen. Brand her coming on. We’ll pause with these words in the Detroit. Great moments in baseball have been broadcast on the radio since 1921. No threequarter arm slot working from that first base side. Sinker sweeper change up. Heavy dose of sinkers especially to these left-handed hitters. Strike one. Fast ball strike. He has been dynamite against lefties. So good. He’s been so good and just remarkable the amount of roles he’s pitched in in his brief time here in the big leagues going all the way back to last year. Comes to spring training as a starter, midway through spring training, say go in bullpen, okay, I’ll do that. And he’s just been fantastic. The O2 to McMahon, low and away. McMahon much improved against lefties last year. In his career though, it’s been pretty much much better against righties in his career. Close to the plate. Slightly closed upright stance and they’ve got the runner Beck picked off. Throw to second. Got him. Nice job. Ball popped out of the glove of Torlson for a brief moment, but he quickly picked it up. Fired down to Sweeneying. They pick off Jordan Beck. Nice job by Bran Herder. Third out of the fourth comes on a pickoff. We head to the fifth inning. Tied at six after four. The Tigers have scored three runs each of their last two innings. Torlson takes a first pitch strike. Again, this bullpen is solid. RA right around 390. Starting rotation for the Rockies, not so much. Perllesson check swing, fouls it out of play. Starters collectively have a 650 erra. Remarkably, Miami is worse. Like what’s going on down Miami? I don’t know. Wow. Here, this environment, you get it. But down there, the O2 swing in a foul slider down to 0 for two against the starter Dolander. Both starters, two good young pitching prospects. Two of the really top pitching prospects in the game. Both making their sixth major league start. Both out before they could get through four. The O2 high popup into shallow right field. Moniac back now in circles a little bit, makes the catch. Was not much of a breeze tonight, but that was a bit of an adventure. Tolson pops out on an 02. Look at some of Spencer Torqulson’s numbers this [Applause] year. Ground ball, line drive, fly ball rate, all the same. The big drop. Tigers talked about how they he gets the ball in the air. Now we need to get him the ball. Need him to get the ball in the air the right way. That was the whole idea behind changes in his setup and swing path. Kinstry takes the strike. Look at his popup rate. He was one of the worst, meaning highest in all of baseball last year. Average player popup rate around 10%. This is at 15. That’s really high. Yeah, he’s cut it to five this year, Bob. That’s that is maybe the best sign of all. Yep. Getting the ball in the air the right way. The O2 to McKinstry. Got him. He painted sinker at the knees on the black coming in on McKinstry to strike him out. That’s good pitch by Jake Bird. Like we said that low 3/4 arm slot almost sidearm. Not quite Chase Lee but low. throws that sinker in the front door to a lefty and it runs right back over the inside edge for strike three. Locks up Zack McKinstry. Nothing you can do [Applause] there. Two out. Space is empty. First pitch, a front door slider to Dylan Dingler. Misses in a walk. Hit by pitch. Dylan Dingler has scored two runs. Pitch counts are not going to be an issue tonight. Jackson’s pitch count was climbing when he came out. G ball softly to short. Charging scooping Treyo. He’ll flip over to first. Pitch counts are brought to you every game by Rocket Mortgage. Own the dream. One, two, three inning for Bird and the Rockies. Engler grounds out to end the fifth. We go to the bottom of the fifth inning in a 66 game. Moments in baseball have been broadcast on the radio since 1921. Smith courts one in right down the line. It may go. Go crazy, folks. Go crazy. [Music] [Applause] Brian McMahon is at the plate when Brian Herurder picked off Jordan Beck to end the fourth inning. So McMahon leads off here in the fifth in a 66 game. McMahon Hunter Goodman Michael Tolio 456 hitters against Herder. First pitch swing in a miss. Beauty of a sweeper get strike one. Two-run home run for McMahon against Jackson job in the first inning. Walked, scored a run, rode home on A to a home run last time. That was in the third. Man takes fast ball up and in. We raved a lot about Bren Herder’s debut last year. Fast ball up and in. This is one of the great examples of what AJ talked about in the off season. What did you learn out of pitching chaos? Say we learned how to make sure we maximized every player’s strengths. Line drive, base it into right on a 2-1. McMahon got a fast ball up and drilled it into right field. Just the second hit that Herder has allowed to a lefty in 21 at bats this year. But Brander is a perfect example of what AJ was talking about. How do we get this guy who had an RA over six in the minor leagues to come up and have some semblance of success at the major league level? Well, he had struggles in the first inning. Let’s use an opener for him. See how that goes. Well, that went very well. Yeah, I’d say it did. Hunter Goodman takes the first pitch. Little inside ball one. He was massive down the stretch for this team. Somebody would start, go maybe an inning, inning in a third, inning in 2/3. There’d be a few lefties in the lineup. It seemed like every time fast ball away, and then you’d roll Grant Herder up. He got righties out, he got lefties out. They were basically starts. It’s just he wasn’t starting the game. Use of an opener for Herder was tremendously successful. Now they look at him as kind of a one-time through the order guy. Swing and a miss. Beauty of a change up. That was in a little bit to the righty Hunter Goodman. But good arm action. Yeah, he did not want that where that ball ended up. That was inner third. But the good part about it was the fact that the arm action was so good. The grip killed all the velocity. 84 miles an hour on that change up. 2-1 to Hunter Goodman. Fast ball a little bit low. So the numbers so far for Herder two and three inning outings, 18 innings, only allowed 11 hits, four walks and 13 strikeouts. It’s a good hitter at the plate. 3-1 fast ball outer third for a cold strike. Last year opponents said 200 with no power against Herder. 550 on base plus slug. This year 180 550 on base plus slug. 3-2 ball to third base. Mckiny will scoop it up to the glove side. Flip down to Torres. One relay to first. They got beautifully turned. 543 double play. It’s about as long as you can get on the around the horn double play. Nicely turned by McKinstry and Torres. Yeah, nice job by McKinstry. The key to this is get labor Torres something he can handle. He did right the chest. Good turn by to by Torres. McMahon was all over him. You can’t come get the second baseman anymore, but you can get up on him. He did that. And on the back end, I said this a thousand times this year and I’m glad to say it. Torque picks him out of the door. Out of the dirt. I love it. He is so underrated at that. It is such a big part of being a good first base. Again and again and again, he picks it out of the dirt. Michael Tolia takes a breaking ball strike. The final line for Jackson Job in this game. Job ends up going three and two/3. He gives up six runs on eight hits, one walk and two strikeouts. Fly ball down the left field line. Ronnie Green on the run. He’s going to get over there and play it on a hot turn. Throw to second base, but it’ll be offline and picked up on one hop by Sweeney. Michael Tolia, the switch hitter batting righty against the lefty. Doubles down the left field line. Yeah, just a change up again. Didn’t hit it especially great. It looked like it was off the end a little bit, but it was in the right spot right in that left field corner right near the 347 sign. That’s a double man on second. Two outs in a 66 game. That final line for Jackson Joe brought to you by Fer Law. All they do is win. Chris Federer’s going to head out to the mound. The pinch hitter Shawn Bousard has been announced a right-handed batter. So Chris Federer wants to go out out. Little scouting report, little reminders for Brander. Check some scores in the 1800 Call Sam scoreboard. Cleveland’s fascinating. The Guardians have been outscored this year by 14 runs. They won again today and they’re 22 and 15. The Tigers have outscored their opponents by 63 runs and they’re 22 and 13. That’s a real oddity. Sometimes you think, well, that means a correction’s coming for Cleveland, but in past years, you and I have talked about this. Yeah. Cleveland’s already banked those wins. That’s true. Swinging a highf fly ball off the bat of Bushard to left center field deep. But playable for Jav Bayz. Green will peel off behind him. Rousard pinch hitting for Martini. Flies out to left field and Herder strains a runner at second. Good defense. Let’s see if you can figure out the following baseball slang term. Today’s phrase is oppo taco. Do you know what it means? Bird still on the mound for the Rockies. Jake [Applause] Bird. Strike one. Swinging a soft ground ball down the third baseline. That will pick his foul as McMahon comes over to grab it. No balls in two strikes. And Lefty’s big edge against Bird last year. Big improvement so far this year is shutting down lefties. Four years now with the Rockies for Bird RA right around 450 every year. That’s like a two erra anywhere else. About right. Sweeny asks and gets time. Double and a walk for Sweeney in this game. He has scored two runs. Look at the bottom part of the lineup. Dingler Sweeney Bayz first two at bats or trips to the plate. They reached six times and scored five runs. O2 curveball hangs up and away. Some big misses with that curve ball away. But he is not going to get beat on that pitch over the plate against the lefty. Clearly he spins it away or spins it on the back door. Bird works from the stretch third base side. The onetw swing a line drive base it into center. That’s a nice piece of hitting. Curve ball away and Sweeny went down and got it. Drilled it into center. That’s so good. That’s a good pitch by Jake Bird. Down and away. It’s a 50/50 pitch in the bottom of the zone. Down and away from Trey Sweeney again. Rides it out with that front side. And what I mean by that is you’re you’re out front, but you kind of bend that front leg to get some adjustability just to get yourself in position and deliver the barrel. You save the hands, throw the barrel at it, and just guides it into center field for a base hit. That’s a real good piece of hitting right there. Brings up Java’s first pitch slider. The first pitch that Vicaraza has given below the knees called strike. That’s just smart hitting by swinging. I mean, you’ve been staying away with the curve ball. Okay, I’m just going to lean out and take that curveball away. That’s it. Drive it into center. Two for two with four RBI. swings and misses at a sweeping slider away. He took a big breaking ball away from the starter Dolander. He reached over the left-handed batters box first at bat. Singled into center field. The two down with the slider. One ball, two strikes. And the last time up it was a breaking ball. Slider away but stayed on the plate. Same approach and you talked about at the time Bobby, but it’s worth repeating. Great approaches in both at bats. Not trying to do too much. Just single into center. Four RBI’s. The one two swinging a miss. That’s a little better slider. More sweep way away. Can be vulnerable to a good one, but he’s had a good night. Strikes out for the first out here in the sixth inning. Yeah. Next sixth game. We’re in the fifth in the sixth. Like you said, Dan, a little bit better slider there. Bird’s been a little hit and miss with the curveball, but that slider’s been on point. He just fed him a few right there. Sweeney leaning at first. Is this a pitcher you can run on? Been better this year holding runners. Carpenter at the plate, but the first pitch will be over to first base to drive Sweeney back. No. Swinging in a mighty pop up into the nighttime sky down into the glove of Tolia at first. Carpenter one for four after popping out for the second out of the sixth inning. That leaves it up to Glaver Torres. And one thing I’ve noticed with this Rocky catch and obviously it’s only been five plus innings. They are not afraid to go all the way out to edges either all the way in or all the way out. You know, you see a lot in the game now where guys are setting up middle or maybe shading to one side of the other, but they’ll set up right on the edge. Torres swings, fouls a fast ball, sinking fast ball over the middle of the plate, out of play down the right field line. Bird is in his third inning of work. Strike one. Swinging a foul out of play. He missed his upper body and he catches the the base with his foot only. Hands are well past the bag after he does the swing move. No, no, I don’t think he did. I think he’s going to be safe. No contact on the body. Rockies are walking off the field like they they he got him. But I I do not see the jersey move. I don’t see the content. And I don’t see where. Is that clear and convincing, Bob? Not for me. And he was ruled safe on the field. Oh, wait a minute. No, he might have got him on the hand. The left hand as it went swimming. Yeah. Oh, no. Was it on the leg? Is that left hand? He slid in. He slid in head first. Pulled that right hand back. And on the way as he’s pulling that right hand back. That’s where we got him. Jav Bay is tracking it and he’ll make the catch onto the warning track. As I said, he provides almost nothing in the way of offense. He smoked that ball. That ball was hit to deepest right center. And that’s a fine running catch by Jav Bayz. Yeah, Jav got a little bit of a late start off the bat, but then he bowed his route a little bit to get on on line with it. You could tell this ball’s traveling a little bit further than he used to. Had to kick it in to gear just a little bit extra. Got back there in plenty of time, though. And Sweeney just went out and hooked it into the right field in the right field for a base hit. Albertson works over on the third base side. High at the playground ball and a high chop to first. Appeal to third. He did not. Nick Lens on the call. One for four for Carpenter. Alison’s got a 100 and he he fills up the strike zone. He’s a striketh thrower swinging a foul out of play and he has walked six in 13 innings. But kind of like with Jackson Joe, that walk rate probably will come down with the amount of strikes that he is filling up the strike zone with. Stabbed at it again. Missed one and two. Might as well take the bunt off. Yeah, he’s being asked to do something he’s clearly not comfortable doing. And even with the way the Tigers are defending it, Torque was crashing at first base and they were rotating over. You could have pulled it back and tried to slap something through that right side. The one two in the dirt. Backhanded on the bounce by Dingler. Brousard has had a handful of at bats each of the last three years leading into this year. Career got off to a nice start. He’s really struggled since the start of last year. Low average, low power. It’s your two. Swinging a miss. Foul tip to the glove of Dylan Dingler. Shard strikes out. Big first out here in the eight. A little surprised he elected to try to bump the runner over right there, especially given the run scoring environment in this ballpark. Not to mention, you’re going to start the next inning for the Tigers at 234. That Torres Malloy spot if he stays in it. And in Riley Green, you’re going to need more than one run. Pontiac takes a change up off the plate and in. [Applause] Nice defensive outfielder which had really just one good year at the plate. Keanley with that change up mostly change up fastball combination. Tough on righties, tough on lefties. Last couple of years been almost no difference and this year again no difference. Tough on both. Swinging the tap foul. Whiteies two for 22 coming into play tonight against Kane Lee. Lefties two for 20. That’s pretty good consistency. Pretty good. And again, that change up, it is just an optical illusion and you just know it’s coming. You just cannot keep yourself back to hit it with any authority. Two on, two out, 66 game. We’re in the eighth. Change up pull down and in. Only seen one fast ball this inning with the third pitch to trail. A big guy. He’s not fast. But again, this outfield is so deep. Single almost surely scores him unless it’s a bullet right at somebody. Fast ball pulled it down and in. Now the good hitters count for Amodore. Quiet start so far. Not a lot of at bats. Seven for 42 start for Amodore. Command just a little bit off. Switch hitter batting lefty. The 2-1 and in pulled the change up. You do not want to walk this bad. Absolutely not. For the obvious reason that go ahead run gets 90 ft closer, but then you get Brent Doyle 31. He missed. I mean, these are big misses with the change up for Tommy Canley. Dylan Dinger will head out to the mound. Bases are loaded. Back-to- back walks. Tommy Canley had walked three in 12 and 2/3 coming in. And that was nine pitches, eight balls to the last two batters. A lot of non-competitive, like you said, big misses in there, Dan. Chris Federer out to the mound. and Brenton Doyle, one of the better hitters in this lineup at the plate. Doyle came in hitting .224, but this guy had a really good season last year. Second full season the major leagues hit 260. Solid walk rate, 23 home runs, and 30 steals. [Applause] spreads out, knees bent, bends at the waist toward the plate. The first pitch from Tommy Canley at the belt with a change up. Woo! That’s a 50/50 ball. He got the call. I mean, these are these are ball out of hand. Four or five of his last change ups. Easy to read and especially glove side to away to righties. Hanley trying to find the strike zone. One- one tried the fast ball. Big miss away. Two and one. He’s having a real hard time getting to that glove side for a strike. Aces are loaded, two outs in the eighth inning in a 6-6 game. Two-1 swinging a high slicing drive down the right field line. Carpenter over and that hits the screen. Right about the time Carpenter got to the wall. Just a short wall down the line. Kane big deep breath sets. Hold the glove below the belt. The 2-2 swinging line drive right to McKinstry at third. [Applause] Doyle ripped it and McKinstry was right there. Slider to go with it. Righty, lefty, righty to face him here in the ninth. First pitch fast ball 97 outer half strike one. Just one little blip on his mark this year. We just chocked it up to do a little more for the home crowd. 98 at the knees for a called strike. The outing toouting consistency for Will Vest, I think this is some of the best stuff we’ve seen him have, Bobby in his early outings of 2025. The O2 foul back to the screen. Oh, completely agree. And like you said, one little blip, he was at the house there in Houston. Whole bunch of people there to watch him and he wanted to put on a show. Didn’t quite go the way he wanted it to. And that’s what happens sometimes. You’re you’re in your home environment. You have a lot of people there you want to you want to do the most. It didn’t quite work out. But overall he’s been fantastic. 02 line drive softly to Torpson. A step to his right. He backhands the soft line drive off the bat of Jordan Beck for the first out here in the ninth inning. See if Will Best can leave him stranded out there. Keep it high on Javi next couple pitches. cuz he hit that wall kind of awkwardly on his knees. Goodman at the plate. First pitch swinging a foul. That’s what we see a lot of right-handed batter. I mean, that’s late. Yeah. Swinging on 98, busting him in. You’re always, you know, commonly said that you follow the ball straight back, you’re on it. That’s not all, they’re all not all made equal. And that was definitely late. Something that AJ Hinch doesn’t like to do a lot, but this is about as obvious as it can get. Yeah. Toia three for four, two doubles and a home run. Two batters that the Rockies really need to heat up. Have had big nights tonight. McMahon has reached five times and now Tolia four times. Chris Federer out to the mound. Kyle Farmer has grabbed a bat and he will pinch hit for Buchard. Two-1, two outs. Usually just a little review how they want to pitch Farmer. Three and one on Torlson. McKinstry Wedding on deck. Outfield deep just about straight up. They really don’t move a lot in this outfield. Kind of surprising given how much room they have to cover. The 3-1 fly ball to the gap in right center field. That one’s going to get down and get to the wall. Green will score. Torpus in the round first and he will cruise into second. Line drive double up the gap and the Tigers take a 76 lead here in the 10th. Had a boy Torque. Best swing he’s had all night. Not close. Got a fast ball up out of the plate. Loud contingent behind that Tigers dugout. 76 Tigers in the 10th. McKinstry takes Splitter away. Ball one. [Applause] Torlson can take a pretty good size lead off second. Kinry takes cutter above the belt. Gets the called strike from Vic Carapazo. The strike zone’s getting just a little bit bigger here the last couple of innings. The 1-1 swing and a miss. It’s good splitter. Low strikeout rate so far at the major league level for Zack Agnos. But that splitter makes you believe Oh yeah, that strikeout rate’s going to be going up for sure. The one-two swinging a miss staying with the splitter. McKinstry strikes out. He’d drawn two walks, scored a run in this game. But you’d like to add [Applause] on the road. Most managers are playing for that two-run, multiple run inning because run scoring is so high, more than doubles in extra innings with that runner at second base. Brings up Dylan Dingler. First pitch starts him off with a sweeper away on the outer third for a called strike. Sweeney has been on four times tonight with a double, two singles and a walk and has scored two runs. What a way to follow up his six RBI games Sunday. He’s waiting on deck. Dingler ground ball to third, scooping it off to the glove side. McMahon will flip it over to Tolia at first. Two outs, a run in. That will leave it up to Trey Sweeney. Well, why not a four for four night after? Why not? Had the big game on Sunday. This the guy you wanted to dish right now. Seeing the ball well, hitting all pitch types. Don’t see backto back four hit games very often, but that’s what Sweeney can do right here. Four hits Sunday, six RBI’s, three hits tonight. First pitch swinging a popa into shallow left center. This one might fall. It does off the ground to left fielder. Swinging into second. Big add-on run. That ball was up in the air a long time. Beck came in late and went off his glove and the Tigers had a huge run to take an 86 lead. Yeah, he got jammed on that pitch. It was a cutter that was up and in. just muscled it out in the left center field. These guys play so deep here. Beck had a long way to run. It’s got to be an error. And it’s got to be an error. It’s a tough error, but it’s got to be an error. Goes right off the edge end of the glove of Beck. Runs into Tjo a little bit. He peaked. He saw Treyo charging. Saw him coming. Yeah. And as an infielder, that’s where you got to you got to peel off. You got to figure out a way to peel off. You just can’t kind of nonchalant it like that. and it caused him to have his left fielder look kind look at him to find find him. Takes his eye off the ball and the ball drops right off his glove. Great replay. Great look on our FanDuel’s monitor. He is tracking that ball. He’s gliding underneath it and then he sees Treyo the shortstop running right at him and at the last moment his eyes shift from the ball to Treyo and the ball bounces off his glove. Much as I would like to have Trey Sweeney get a another four hit game, they did not give him a hit. Tough play. There’s no error. A duper tough play, Dan. That I can’t say that with straight face. You cannot tried. I tried to say it with a straight face. That’s not an RBI, Dan. Come on, man. Come on. Does ordinary effort make the play? Yes. No. Treyo should get an assist on the error. Partial error to Treyo, but that can’t be a hit. Well, if it is, Trey Sweeney has another four hit game. Swing in a miss on an 01. Bayz with four RBI’s early. Can’t tell you how big those hits were. Tigers were down three nothing when he delivered the first two runs of the game with a two-run single in the third. Then down again by two runs in the fourth. Two-run single tied the game. Sweeper away. I’m waiting for the error to go up on the board. I’m not seeing it, Bobby. It’s not going to happen, Dan. It’s [Applause] not 86 Tigers in the 10th. The one two swing and a miss. Yeah, it’s good stuff by Zack McKinstry. You just said it too, partner. They know how to get the ball on the ground. Well, Bill Best did right there. McKenry playing off the line. That ball hit down the line, takes him right towards the bag, steps on it with his right foot, fires across the bag. We told you how accurate that throwing arm is.
