I wonder how likely it is for someone with actual NHL experience to come and be an advisor for Kevyn. I feel like most will say fuck off.

  1. Thank goodness Lou didn’t want to come here. If there’s a way adding experience could make us worse, he’s it.

  2. Once people strike out for the real GM jobs, maybe someone looks at it as a potential 1 year try out to be next GM… and if the Sabres somehow turn it around, another team might give them a GM since it seems like that would take a miracle.

My hope is Jarmo. I am prepared to be disappointed as usual.

  3. Holland maybe gets L.A. gig.

So… that means Sabres could actually nab Pierre McQuire! (Ooooo… Hartford connection, see)

Or, or….. Brian Burke!! Forget it… he ain’t no ‘yes’ man.

  4. Of course they did cause Pegula would never allow them to take the lead. It’s why Rutherford passed up Buffalo too when he had an opportunity. The good hockey people know they’ll never be able to work in good faith with an organization that insists they already have all the answers.

  5. Lou already misses those Long Island palm trees and low taxes I see!

  6. The idea your gm needs a ‘senior advisor’ former GM when he’s already been on the job 5 years is remarkable. Really have no notes.

  7. Offseason did not even started, you are not taking second chair job with Sabres that early

  8. I might have missed it in the initial reporting but Matthew Fairburn thinks that the senior advisor would be reporting to Adams and not Pegula. That’s disappointing and almost entirely defeats the purpose for me. It’s also not surprising that people like Holland would decline if that’s the case

  9. Imagine thinking any of those guys would work UNDER Kevyn Adams lol

  10. If they weren’t interested in an advisory role, were they by chance interested in any other roles?

Hope they voiced some alternative options — which should at least get KA and TP to consider maybe they’re going about things the wrong way.

  11. Jarmo Kekäläinen might be the drema at this point. I doubt even Rob Blake would want such a role.

  12. Here’s the problem, it’s more than likely not that they don’t want to come here. A lot of these guys want to be GM’s again, or president of hockey ops, which both are very hard jobs to get in the NHL, because those jobs don’t turnover like coaches.

Heck, it’s a reason like Karmanos is likely leaving. Having Buffalo on your resume doesn’t help you be a GM, and if you’re a big name, you want to run the show.

It’s almost like when the BIlls during their drought tried to court Mike Shanahan. Guys like that want the control to fix what they need to fix.

  13. What person with any credibility would want to work with a lame duck administration? Both Adams and Ruff have a year remaining on their contracts and in Adams case would’ve been fired by literally ANY other ownership. The Sabres have plenty of talent on the team and in their pipeline but if you’re someone with any clout whatsoever you’d be crazy to hook your wagon to Adams tenure. And Staal could eventually end up being good at his job ( whatever that actually is ) but it’s going to be 6-12 months before he even contributes because he is new to the gig and said gig is loosely defined which means “we’re figuring it out as we go”.
