Jaxson Dart: ‘Wearing this jersey, it’s an amazing privilege’ | New York Giants

Jackson, Evan Barnes, Newsuesday. Just how how was your first day? Yeah, I mean this was I mean it’s been surreal up to this point. Me and Abdul were just talking about it and feel like you know it kind of just hit us for the first time you know being out here wearing this jersey. Um it’s an amazing privilege. So you know we definitely hold it in higher regard and um you just want to continue to get better each and every day. Um and anytime you get to play football, it’s the best. Oh, Jackson Connor gives us why I think the the Giants started releasing some of the clips of the the production that they had done from the draft process and you and Dave going back and forth on the whiteboard I think started going viral a little bit online. Can you just take us through that what what it was like being tested in that regard? Had you been tested in that regard? Yeah, absolutely. I mean, I think a lot of people seen, you know, the process a little bit on Hard Knocks. Um, but it’s intense. Uh, you know, I kind of had an idea coming into it, you know, that I had to make sure that I was on my P’s and Q’s when I walked in. So, um, it was super fun. I think that at the same time, you know, me and him were able to just form like an organic relationship. And, um, you know, they definitely tested me, you know, harder than any other, you know, team throughout this process. And, um, you know, I was just grateful to to to come here and and to take that challenge on and, um, you know, be around these great coaches. What was it that you identified that that seemed to get pretty handed up? just a concept, you know, I figured out pretty quick and then, uh, it was a question that they hadn’t, you know, put into my install or, you know, for me to know and I just kind of knew. So, and Dan Doug from athletics. So, did you just watch Hard Knocks as like a as a football fan? And then did that give you a little clue of what you’d be in for when you did have to sit down table? No, quite honestly, I didn’t watch it all, but I just saw like clips of it on TikTok. So, did that give you a heads up? You fire in the Yeah. Yeah. Absolutely. Jackson Joe Masseri Pix 11 here. Uh Cam was up here just uh a minute ago just talking about how smart you seem out there on day one. Yeah. Uh how much pride do you take in performing off the field as well as on the field? Yeah. As a quarterback, you know, you’re the one that run, you know, you run the ship when you’re out there. So, you know, if you’re if you don’t know the ins and outs of everything, you’re not going to have everybody around you prepared. And I think that that’s super important. It’s very important to have that that mindset coming to work each and every day. And I think that that also raises the bar for everybody around you. And I think that if you want to be a great team and you want to, you know, compete at the highest level, that’s definitely how you have to be as a quarterback. Jackson Patty Trainer from Onsai. Nice to meet you. Nice to meet you. Um, have you had a chance to speak with U Winston and or Wilson? And if not, what’s one of the first things you want to ask those guys? Go. Yeah, they’ve been great. Um, you know, they were some of the first people to text me when I got drafted and I thought that that was just super cool. Um, you know, those are guys that I’ve looked up to for such a long time. Um, you know, I’ve said this before, like I remember I was wearing Russ’s jersey uh with the Seahawks when he won a Super Bowl. So, um, like I said, these guys have been, you know, people who I’ve really looked up to and, um, you know, I hold them in the highest regard. So, I think for me being in this situation, being able to be a sponge and, um, you know, soak in all the information that I can will help elevate me and then at the same time, you know, I just want to compete and make everybody else better in the room as well. Hey, Jackson, Art St from the record. Nice to meet you. Yeah. Um, you’re a guy that talking to people who’ve played with you, you want to be in every room. You want to meet the guys, you want to get guys prepared for, you know, whether it’s practice or game. When you come to rookie mini camp, I mean, there are a lot of guys who probably, you know, won’t be here come Sunday. For you, what was the process like starting last night of getting your guys that you’re playing with today and tomorrow ready for the opportunity? It looked like, you know, you’re trying to get guys set up in the seven on sevens, guys who you haven’t played with. What What is that like? What’s that mindset like for you for a guy who always wants to take care of that? Yeah. Well, first and foremost, I mean, this is just an incredible opportunity for anybody who can step on the field out here at this, you know, at the NFL level. So, I think for all of us, we’re just super grateful to be here. Um, it doesn’t matter where you got drafted, where you got picked. You got to come with the same mind. It’s each and every day. And you see so many guys across the league who have, you know, a ton of success who maybe weren’t even drafted the highest, but, you know, they come to work every single day and they’re consistent. Um, and I think the biggest thing coming out here, uh, you know, we had, you know, a great group last night who we all got together and made sure that we went through the script and did a walk through. So, um, you know, that made coming out here on the field, you know, the operation a lot smoother and everybody was a lot more confident, was able to play a lot faster when we got to the field. Was that in the building or you talking about like when you got back to the hotel you were doing? Yeah, we just talked on the bus on our way back and, you know, I think as the quarterback, you got to make sure that everybody knows what they’re doing. So, um, you know, I tried to, you know, get as many guys as I could together on the offensive side of the ball and go through it and teach everybody, making sure that we’re all on the same page. Ryan Dunley from the Nice to meet you. Nice to meet you. Two for you. Any story behind that necklace? Yeah, actually, here’s the story. So, um, my little sister had it. It was hers. Uh, it was before our bowl game. And as I was leaving the house over Christmas, um, a little break before the bowl game and just saw it in a room and I was like, you know what, I kind of like it. So, put it on. It’s kind of been good luck for me ever since. So, and then the other thing, totally shifting gears to football. Everybody saw the John Gruden clip, the snap count, etc. How comfortable are you doing a snap count? I know Dave said you were going to have to do one today versus what you did in college with the clapping. Yeah. Did you guys hear me good when I was out there? Yeah. Yeah. No, I feel like it’s been super fun. Um, you know, quite honestly, it’s been something that I’ve always wanted to do and, um, I’ve always kind of practiced it, you know, on my own or, you know, kind of just messing around with buddies and whatnot, but um, you know, I think it’s always a little bit of a transition. You know, it really goes for anybody um, from the college level to the NFL level. The cadence is different no matter where you’ve been at. So, um, you’re always going to have a little bit of a learning curve, but, you know, it’s something that really excites me. And um you know I think that you know you have so many opportunities and advantages with the cadence and you can do so many different things that you know can take advantage of a defense. So uh definitely something I wanted to continue to excel at each and every day. What’s the difference between Sorry. Go ahead Charles. I just wanted to follow up on the necklace. How’s your sister feel about it? She likes it. She likes now my little brother ordered one too. So another one or is she Yeah, we got her another one too. We got her another one. Have you? I am the oldest. Yeah. Jackson. Hey, Paul Schwarz from the New York Post. Nice to meet you. And here, um, you mentioned about how quarterback, you know, needs to get everybody involved and, you know, know what’s going on. I mean, how comfortable does a person have to be to be, you know, you’re a first round pick, you’re the quarterback, you started in a SEC school for many years in their own skin and to be everyone looking at you and waiting for you and, you know, the guy. Yeah. How comfortable is that for you? I just think I’m really confident my preparation every day. And um I feel like anytime I step on the field like I don’t have doubts when I play and I think that that comes from taking the time to really understand the scheme and what I’m doing and what’s why is a play called to execute a certain way. And you know that’s something that I take pride on. Um and then you know as a quarterback you know you’re only as good as the guys around you. So um you know you want to make sure that everybody’s on the same page and everybody has that same preparation aspect of making sure that everything’s down to a tea and is done the right way. And um you know, our coaches did a great job preparing for us and I kind of wanted to continue that because you know at times you’re kind of limited with time and uh you know everybody kind of has a little question so just wanted to answer that and get everybody on the same page. Jackson Steve Serby, New York Post. Nice to meet you. Nice to meet you. What kind of feedback were you getting from Coach Dable on the field today? Yeah, he coaches me up like every second I’m around him. Um he’s the guy that will walk in a room, say, you know, goodbye and whatnot, and then he’ll come back 30 seconds later because he has an idea. So, um, he’s constantly, you know, coaching me and I think that that’s just that’s what I want to be around. Um, you know, I want to be the co I want to be coached the hardest and, you know, I feel like that’s going to help me excel at the highest level and help me reach my potential. So, there’s not another coach I’d rather be playing for. It seemed like you had a lot to say after your last throw. Did that sound specific about that read, that play, or is it just more just the entire period? Like right after you threw that last pass, you like right in your ear? Yeah. No. Uh, he was just kind of, you know, asking what I was seeing. um kind of explained it to him and making sure that we’re just on the same page. It became very clear through some of the clips that have come out during the draft process that he wanted you that that you were Dave’s guy. What does that mean to you to have a coach that that really really wants to work with you and sees the potential in you and and is as about as invested as you as you can get? Yeah, I’m blessed to be here. Um I’m blessed to be able to, you know, be coached by him. And I think that we just kind of collect, you know, personalitywise of how we handle things and kind of just the our competitive nature, our toughness, and our grit about how we go about things. I think that that just helped us connect and um you know he sees football the same way that I see it and you know we see it as a physical and tough sport and you know I think that a lot of times you don’t really see that a ton with quarterbacks and um you know for me you know I I kind of play like a defensive player a little bit with just you know the way that I attack each and every everything I do. Jackson Padliner Daily News. You seem comfortable. Did that happen very quickly like after you got drafted or does getting on the field make you feel more comfortable like what you know can you walk me through how you got to this point? Yeah, I’m like I said I’m just I’m confident when I step you know in between those lines. Uh I felt prepared coming into today. Um and I’m a competitor and I feel like if you don’t see yourself you know playing at the highest level um you shouldn’t even be between those lines in the first place especially as the quarterback of how you’re going to lead the guys around you. So, um, you know, I I’ come prepared and I’m confident when I step between those lines. When is the last time you did not start? You know, when were you kind of a guy on the bench? I haven’t, you know, really sat before. Um, middle school, elementary school, uh, anything? No. No. Nothing. No. Okay. Um, okay. I wouldn’t know what that feels like, but um, um, how are you going to deal with that? Um, you know, I’m just I’m a competitor, so I’m going to come to work each and every day and um, you know, do my best to make everybody around me better. Um, you know, I understand, you know, what the situation is. Um, you know, but, you know, for me and myself, you know, I care about winning. You know, there’s nothing fun about losing. So, uh, it doesn’t matter, you know, where you’re at on the depth chart, if you’re playing this much or not playing this much. If you’re losing, it sucks. So, um, you know, for me, I want to make the team better and and that’s my focus. Last one. Go ahead. I was just going about six. Is it permanent? Why six? Um yeah, I think we’ll come to a final um decision here soon. Um caught out and say I kind of have to just look at the pictures to see if I like myself in the six Michael Shan spoke to you guys. What do you take from that? What do you think when a guy like that here? Yeah. Being able to speak to you guys? Yeah, it’s incredible. Um he’s a legend. Um you see him on the walls. I’ve seen him on TV for you know a long time. time he’s bigger in person. So, um it’s great to have a have a person like that who’s open, who’s able to come around the facility a ton and um kind of like Eli, you know, those are people that you can lean on and ask for advice because they’ve done it at the highest level. So, that’s kind of my mindset and I’m excited to continue to grow my relationship with them.

  1. Dear Lord, Watch over Jackson Dart as he taketh the field.
Let his arm be steady, his vision clear, and his jersey remain unblemished. Deliver him from sacks, from picks, and from doubters alike. May his passes soar like falcons, and his poise endure like stone. Bless this young Giant, that he may rise in glory,
And bring honor to his name, his team, and this fair land. Amen.

  2. i couldnt see his head during this interview because i was blinded by all the bling on this neck! has this happened to anyone? lol

  3. Watched him play at Ole Miss 3 years. The Giants have themselves a treasure. The kid is smart as a whip in his decision making. GO BLUE

  4. Jaxson dart has leadership qualities. Can’t wait til he starts leading the huddle. Time to learn and observe. He’s going to do well in the long run

  5. Is it possible that we finally found an enthusiastic quarterback!? 😂 This dude sounds hyped as heck. Nice to see. He’s gonna be getting some commercial deals no doubt. Got that look and moxie

  6. That’s my Qb! I was on board of getting Dart in the late rounds so we can have that 5th year option. The kid had the it factor imo. There’s something about him that seems special.

  7. everything I see of this kid I love. Let him sit the year, don't throw him to the wolves, ride this year out hell or highwater and we've got ourselves a real QB going forward. Wishing him (and us) nothing but the best

  8. Who knows if he can play QB but he’ll be easy to root for. Looking forward to a QB with personality and attitude of a LB

  9. as a jets fan this guy reminds me of zach wilson when it comes to his poise during pressers. zach was good on the mic (aside from his 1 mess up). hopefully it works out for y’all. i like dart, good luck.

  10. Don't be surprised if Jaxon Dart try to take the starting quarterback position from Russell Wilson just like Russell did when he was a rookie.

  11. He is going to sit for the season and learn unless things go bad for Wilson then your looking at the same scenario as Eli had him coming In the middle of the season but the giants have zero excuse this year to at least win 9 or 10 games

  12. People stop sleeping on his Personality it means a lot! He’ll connect with all his teammates and lead them. He’s coachable, has all the tools, has leadership abilities, plays tough, highly competitive, willing to learn and take criticism. He loves football. We need to trust Brian Daboll on his choice with his expertise and experience! LFG G-men. Next season with the easier record we’re making the playoffs after another solid draft!!
