It obviously is a minor league park and uh talking to Severino about the wind here and because they don’t have an extra deck on here, uh balls can fly out of here when the wind is blowing. It doesn’t look like the wind is going to be an issue today, but they’ve got a beautiful burm out there which is really pretty much uh filled with people right now sitting on blankets. I think they’re going to have a very very big crowd. Um it’s nice. They’ve done a nice job. It is what it is and they’ve done a great job. They built uh the A’s a totally new clubhouse. The one for that the Yankees are in is totally been redone. It’s very very spacious. They did the best they could and um nobody has had any complaints. Aaron Boon was talking to me about um about he’s asked everybody and there’s been no complaints about anything here. Um the clubhouse is in center field so it might be a little different difficult to get a star of the game and then go to the clubhouse and do that but um that’s moments in baseball have been broadcast on the radio since 1921. He’s a tremendous short stop. Tyler Sawtorm is young. He’s in left field and and our buddy Miguel and Duhar is hitting 320. And it’s great to see what they have done. They um you know they’re not all that deep so it might catch up with them at some point but now they are 20 and 18 and um pitching and pitching and hitting very very well. We’re going to see JP Sears tomorrow. We’re going to see Luis Severino on Sunday. Your leadoff spot is stacked this weekend. It’s stacked. It’s you I’m set up. I can’t even fit in Miguel and Dupar. So here we go. We are coming to you live from the Provident Bank broadcast booth and as Trent Gisham steps up to the plate, stepping up to the microphone is Emanuel Barbari. Thanks so much Susan. Pleasure to fill in for Dave Sims this weekend and it’s Yankee baseball in Sacramento. Did we think we would we would say that? Never. But play through three years. Yeah. Aaron Boon says it’s different but great reports coming out of this ballpark. Videl to the plate. The right-hander deals on the outside corner for a strike to Drake Gisham. We’re underway. All right for Seamer. He will throw hard. That was 95. Starts him off. And that was a very controlled fast ball right on the outside corner. Stairs in the pitch. Gisham takes outside. Gisham with a huge swing on Wednesday. Eighth inning. Yankees were down 3-1. Came off the bench. Pinch hit two-run home run. Two straight big wins for the Yankees to win that series. 1-1. Risham takes a breaking ball inside. Two and one. Brisham at 292. 10 homers, 20 RBI. Seven of the 10 homers though have have tied a game or given the Yankees a lead. They’ve been big 2-1. Gisham slashes it third base side. Sails out of play. Alder Bedo is he’s 29 years old, so he’s not young, but he’s young in service time. Right-hander, big guy. 63, 175, and he won’t go more than five innings. Hasn’t yet. So throws a lot of pitches evidently and you try and look for that fast ball. You try and get those fast balls. Gisham steps back in after time was called from the first base side of the rubber. Failed high wine pitch just misses outside. Full count on Gisham. There’s been a theme with them. Yeah, he does that a lot. And and Bo comes out of the pirate organization. He was at their Dominican um academy down in the Dominican Republic. Signed out of there. Payoff inside ball four. So Terren Gisham, true leadoff hitter. He walks to start the night. Well, you heard Aaron Boon say to be patient with him and that’s what they’re going to do. That was the first walk of the game brought to you by Route 22 Toyota. Why walk when you could be driving a new Toyota? Route 22yota.com. Yankees in the road grays and the A’s in the the home whites. Gisham aboard for Aaron Judge. He’s from How can they boo him? He’s from here. It’s about an hour. Lyndon is about an hour from here. He told me can’t boom him pitch. Judge hammers it left field. It’s rising back near the wall. It is off the bottom of the fence. Gisham hustling to third. Throw comes in to short and Judge slides in safely. A booming double and the Yankees are set up. Second and third. Nobody out. All right. I could see there’s going to be trouble here. It’s hard to see that ball. I thought that ball was going over. Did you? Yeah. All right. to check myself there. All right. So, there we there we see. So, that’s a little difficult. It looks like and I know there’s there’s B. It looks like it’s one wall, but it’s not. See where the the signs are. There’s a walkway there cuz we went there. And we got big lettering on that digital wall beyond the fence. We can tell what the count is. We’ll know all night. Yes. And we know that VO is two and two with 4.71 RA. It’s about 100 ft high. Here’s Ben Rice. Early opportunity for the Yankees. Second and third. Nobody out in the first inning. Veto’s pitch. Rice takes a strike down the middle. We started him off with the slider and not the fast ball. By the way, that that judge double stays above 400. Came in at 400 with 12 homers and 24 RBI. One of the more symmetrical lines you will see. A one. Rice takes a strike in her half. Now, I was on the A’s pregame show and uh the question was about Judge and I said, “He’s not just a slugger anymore. He’s a hitter.” And going through what Judge did with his stance to get better balance and change thing. Veto that pitch. Rice lifts it shallow left towards the line. Soders from the left fielder ranges over. Makes a one-hand catch. Runners hold. Sodom just flings it in and Duh. One away. And by the way, Soda Strom, and I want you to listen to what he has. This is his 13th professional game in left field. He had never played left field before, but they need a left fielder. So, out he goes. Okay. He’s done a really nice job. How about learning the the position of left field in the ma on the ma in the major leagues? Isn’t that something? 13 pro game. Yeah, 13. That counts everything. Everything. Minors, majors, anything. Here’s Paul Goldmid. Second and third one away. Just underway. Big righty hitter crouches down. Pitch Dolmid taps it right back to Bo. Runners caught off third. Stares at Gisham, but just flips it to first anyway. Gisham was about, let’s say, 40% to home plate. Now he walts back to third. Two down, still second and third. No, that’s that’s not what you want. Goldmith, by the way, tonight’s cleanup hitter brought to you by Sicko. Clean up on savings every Phillip Club Sicko. Download the app now to start saving. Kind of wonder what went on there with Bau. Does he try and get Gisham coming down the line? I guess he thought he’d take the second out because Gisham wasn’t going to be able to score. So, he played it actually very well. Jason Dominguez, switch hitter batting left, takes inside. It’s like a split-second decision. Do you throw to third? Once he didn’t, right, had to make the play at first. So, second and third, no out for the Yankees now. Second and third, two out. Dominguez at 231. Two homers and 12 driven in one. Dominguez taps it. Didn’t mean to. Foul third base side. Shadows are covering most of the field to start the night. Right field is a sunfield for Lawrence Butler. I hear tomorrow and Sunday and during the day it’s going to be difficult. One-1 pitch. Dominguez swings at a high fast ball. Misses one and two. Uh 96 with that fast ball. That was up. That was a really good pitch here tomorrow and Sunday afternoon. High sky. It’s very difficult for the fielders. You don’t because they don’t have that deck. That second deck deck pitch outside count levels at two. Aaron Boon was talking about before the game. Sometimes this this park plays differently night versus day. Mhm. Oh yeah. Because it can be in the mid 90s and then 50s at night. Second and third. Two away. Two two swing and a miss. Strike three. Cutter fans Dominguez and the Yankees waste the opportunity. Second and third. Nobody out. They do not score against Bo. Will Warren takes him out in the bottom of the half of the first inning. Well, that shouldn’t be on an E6. That should be an E7. Okay. Well, and did it even hit his right hand? He tried to barehand it. No, I think he looked at Wilson and I think he got a little confused cuz, you know, how many games do we say he played out there? 13 pro games total. Bo is fired up. It really is. And let me tell you about Bo because his mentor is Luis Severino. And during spring training, Bo, who has not had a lot of success and he’s 29 years old, Luis would go over and watch his when he’s at minor league contract complex. He’d go over and watch his games in full uniform. He’d been doing his and go over and you’d see them behind the screen talking between innings. Steo’s pitch. Rice fouls it back. Severino has become really the the mentor here, the Garrett Cole of this and all the all the pitchers particularly the younger ones they like gravitate to him and this is such a place for him. Rice fouls it back again. 0 and2. And it’s great and he’s got, you know, he’s been through it all and he’s come out of it being very very successful. And these these kids, he’s great for the young Latins like Bedau. O2. Rice swings and misses. Strike three. Another hard slider down. Bedo’s got four punch outs. Two away in the third. And they’re doing it on that slider that he’s got in the f not the fast ball. What they’re trying to do is with with that change up he’s been getting is the opponents hitting 123 off of that change up two out nobody on and Paul Goldmid with second and third one out bounce right back to the mound in the first inning. He takes a strike. That’s good to hear because Severino was that first big move of the offseason for the A’s. It’s clearly paid off in influence. It has and it’s had and he was offered a lot of places a lot of places. Gold Schmidt players had foul first base side quickly 0 and2. You know he told me there was something about well Miguel and Duhar had a lot to do with this and he told him how much he was going to love Katsi and he could come and he could be a leader and everything that Miguel had told him about this place Sepharuno said turned out to be absolutely true. 02 Goldid drives it down the right field line. His tail’s out of play. Marseay that’s another thing they did. They extended him this off season so he’ll be here another three years. Really those kinds of players cuz Kat was a guy that made himself the best player he could. Played everywhere. Goldmid drives it into center field. Chases back on the track at the wall. This ball is gone. Paul Goldmid dead central in Sacramento and the Yankees have an early one- nothing lead. Well, and that was a shot that is 403 out to the batter’s eye. There was over that. Just a tremendous shot. Fourth home run of the season for Paul Goldmid. 417 ft. Went out at 107 mph. First Yankee homer is brought to you by your local Kia dealers. Got some carry back near the bullpen wall and goodbye Jason Dominguez. Yankees go backto back and they got an early two nothing lead. And Emanuel, you know who’s starting to hit? Jason Domingles. 398 ft. Went out 100 miles an hour. Big smile. You usually don’t see him with a smile. He knows he’s starting to feel it. We’ll take a look at this pitch again. Little breaking pitch and he was ready for it. Little cutter. That’s the second cutter that’s been hit. Bulby. Two out, nobody on, but two in in this third inning. righty hitter takes a strike out or half. Dominguez three nights ago that double from the right side of the plate in the seventh inning was so huge started that entire inning. Well, sometimes those kinds of things can really get you going. And the umpiring crew, they’re talking about it. That’s We’re looking at it again. That it hit the ground in his glove. He did not catch that. And what’s interesting here is the umpiring crew on the throwback. They did confirm double play. So now they got to get together and figure out where to place the base run. Well, it’s not. We’re looking at it again. It’s that ball is on the ground. That ball is not caught. So Gisham’s smarter than anybody. Gisham came all the way home. The ace threw behind to second, but that ball was trapped on the replay by Belay. Well, they just played it on a 100 foot high scoreboard that the ball hit the ground. So, what are they arguing about? Are they going to cuz they’re not look it’s not a replay back to New York. Gisham after getting that sweat and is back in the dugout talking to Austin Wells. He came home to score, but the initial call was double play. So, the umpires getting together. Well, none of the umpires actually called anything and then third base umpire signaled a catch. It was not a catch. Not tell you right now, it was not a catch. Here comes Marsey’s manager to talk to Chris Gucci on the crew chief. And it’s clear as day that it is not a catch. That should be a base hit and an RBI for Paul Goldmith. And it was like nobody called anything for a few seconds and then they signaled cat. Then they signaled out on the return throw. Aaron Boon wants an explanation now. He’s out of the first base dugout. In the meantime, Bo Do needs to take some warm-up pitches. He’s getting cold out there. Okay, now Rice was just explaining to um to Wilson the shorts stop. I saw him signal out, so I didn’t go. That’s why Gisham just took the initiative and came home. I’ll see if we announce something. This would make it a three nothing Yankee lead. Rice. After thorough consultation, we determined that the ball was not caught in the outfield. The no catch. We will place the runners at first, second, and third. New York is challenging the placement of runners. Well, they should challenge. They should challenge. They should challenge. Gisham should be scoring. Gisham was scoring the was running the whole time. He never stopped. And that’s a credit to Gisham. He should get credit for that running on the play. All right. This instant replay review is brought to you by Ramsey Mazda. Choose wisely. Choose Ramsey Mazda. There was if if Gisham had stopped then I could understand it. Rice actually went back to second base because he saw the umpire go you know raise his hand that he was out. Brisham knew the ball dropped and ran all the way home. There’s no reason he should be put back at third base. None. He’s waiting to see if he catches now. He looks and he says he didn’t catch that and he didn’t stop. So, heads up base running by Gisham and the Yankees are challenging that placement. So, it should be three nothing Yankees after this review. Well, the only reason that Rice uh is at second base, he went back to first cuz he saw the umpire raise his hand as a catch. Nobody else did anything except the third base umpire raised his hand like he caught it, but he did not. So, he went back to first and then and then Goldmid said, “No, no, go to second. So, I I don’t think Boon’s going to win this one because he looks very frustrated. Did they call Are they calling New York? What are they doing? I don’t get it. I really don’t. Talking to Aaron Boon right now just outside the Yankee dugout first base side. Well, Boon’s got his hands on his hips and has that look on his face that I don’t get what you’re telling me. He has not looked happy. Well, he’s having a a conversation with two of the umpires. One of them here they come. Since the play was overturned on the field, the placement of runners is non-reable. The runners will be placed at first, second, and third. New York will retain their challenge. So they had told the crowd it was challengeable, but it’s not challengeable, right? Is what they’re saying. So instead of Gisham scoring, it’s Gisham at third, Rice at second, and Goldmid at first with one away. I don’t get it. I just don’t get it. And Aaron Boon doesn’t either. He just threw his gum on the field. I could throw my gum out of the booth. I don’t I Now he’s Now third base umpire Tom Hanahan is explaining it to Trent Gisham, who also doesn’t get it. Nor should he. Or whole blade umpire. Excuse me. By the way, Goldmid who should have had an RBI single. Today’s cleanup hitter sponsored by Rotorooer. Leave plumbing to the throws at Rotorooer. By the way, Scott Emerson just went out to talk to Veto. The consultation on the mountain brought to you by the Barnes firm. Injury attorneys call for a free consultation at 1 8008 million. Aaron Boon still shouting at the umpiring. He’s he should he should. That’s incorrect. Accees loaded, one away. So it’s up to Dominguez here to get the run in or runs pitch. Dominguez takes a breaking ball low. Goldid and Dominguez went back to back home runs back in the third now. Base is loaded. One out in the fifth. Two nothing Yankee lead. 10. Bears strike out half at 95. You know, my guess is that Scott Emerson just came out to see if veto was all right. He was just standing as the argument was going on for for quite a while, but this cost um Yankees a run and Goldman an RBI and I don’t understand it. So, Enfield pull to the right, the 1-1. Dominguez lifts it left field line should be plenty deep enough. Soderstrom is back. Step onto the track, makes a one-hand catch. Gisham tags, easily scores. The other runners hold at first and second. Yankees up three nothing as it should be in the fifth. All right. So now I don’t have to erase my score. Don’t have to use out. No white out except the RBI now goes to Dominguez and not Colmid. So Dominguez’s second RBI and he can thank the umpires for that. Three nothing Yankees top five. First and second, two down. Let’s see if Vulpi can crack the door open a bit. Righty hitter crouched down. Vido’s pitch. Bulpi chops it towards short. Wilson couple of steps in. Gloves fires. Got Bulpi by a couple of steps. That ends the inning to the Yankees after the controversy. They still score. It’s a run on two hits and two left. Go bottom five halfway home. Yankees a three nothing lead in Sacramento. Our friend Christy Akard, who used to cover this team for the Daily News, wants to know, if Aaron Boon had gotten tossed, would he have to walk through the outfield and go back to the clubhouse? There’s no place for him. There’s no door or anything. He can’t just watch a game from the crowd. Like the walk of shame. He’d have to walk all the way through center field to go to the clubhouse. I would love to see that because then he can pitch. Frank Gisham takes outside. He can get more of a show in as he walks out. That would No, that would be awful. That would be awful because he’s already thrown his gum, right? No more gum to throw. Unless he had something in his back pocket. That would be funny. Actually, that’ll keep you from getting thrown out of the game. You’d have to make that walk of shame out to center field. 10 on the outside corner for a strike. That’d be amusing. And actually, you have I think you have to go out. Is there a door out there? Do they have to go through the left field side? I don’t remember. I think there are two doors, but yeah. So, it’s Delos Santos pitching to Rice and the pitch is outside ball one. He had that he did this um what was it? We were at the stadium and I was surprised that he was came off the field and catcher stuff. Bed Rice, he he works at it every day by the way. And the pitch is low. Doesn’t the story go that Tanner Swanson is begging Aaron Boone like you got to get Rice behind the playmore and he keeps saying no. He keeps saying no. But this is, you know, JC was, it’s a long game. Might as well do. You never know when you need him. You got to get him in sometime. Can’t do it. Get him some reps. The two is grounded towards third. Is it fair? Foul ball. Still a throw anyway. Wow. That was a nice throw by PZA even though it was a foul ball all the way across the diamond. Pza’s got some arm. It really does. But it’s not the same doing drills with Tanner Swanson every day. And he does. And he works on his catching every single day. It’s different when you’re actually in there. Yeah. Live game reps really important, right? So, this is the second time in a in a week. Yeah. Second time in a week they get Rice out there. Escara, by the way, what a day. Yeah. He catches the masterpiece by Warren. He has two hits a walk. Double single. Stolen base as well. Yep. Jay Langalers was 0 for three against Warren with a couple of strikeouts. Big righty hitter. 2-1. Grounded towards the middle. Vulpi ranges left, but a base hit to center field. Vulpi position near the shortstop hole. Gisham just scoops it up and flings back to Vulpi. And Langalers a leadoff single in the ninth. Number 15. Now Seth Brown is going to pinch it. He does one thing. He’s he hits home runs and he’s like the elder statesman on this team. He’s been here since 2019. Been a long must be the last. He’s only 20. He’s How old is he now? He’s got to be up there. Pitch big swing and a miss for the lefty hitter. Seth Brown is 32 years old. Yeah. Boy played a little outfield in first base. Been in 27 games this season. Right-handers 01. Brown drives it into right center field. Gisham chases back near the track in front of the track. Now onto the track, makes a running catch very easily. One away and Langalers back to first.2. So Brown gave that one a ride. Now Migueland Duhar with a big smile on his face stepping to the plate. I bet he knows him from the park. Absolutely. Pitch outside one and0. I was very wondering now how I said oh yeah Miguel spent some time over there. Yeah, Duhar a pirate 2022 2023. That’s when Delos Santos was there. Yeah, he gave him a big smile. 10 rounded softly towards third foul ball. So if the Yankees close out this win, it would be their third straight and start this West Coast swing exactly how they want to do it. Yep. Well, this was great for more than a few reasons. Will Warren, Jason Dominguez, one way outside with the slider. JC Escara Goldmid. You know, whenever Goldmid has a big night, it’s quiet. He does it all the time. 2-1 inside. So Dominguez homered from both sides of the plate and he capped his three homer night with a grand slam. C. Can you do better than that? Well, I guess you can, I suppose. Pitch is grounded softly to third. PZA near the bag. Gloves. Fair ball. Throws across the body. Got him. Oh, what a throw by PZA. Showing off the arm. Well, we’re seeing a little bit of, you know, when he when we first saw him is such a such a talent at the infield. He can play anywhere. He’s got a great great arm. does it very very smoothly. He’s a terrific defensive player. Put a few stars on that one. Yankees are out away from victory. Langalers to second and Lawrence Butler who’s 0 for three. The last man standing. Los Santos fired. Breaking ball swinging a miss and one. There’s a change at 90. Started him off with that change. It’s I think he was looking for a fast ball right there. Los Santos tall righty. The socks up near the knees. 01 skips up there. Backhanded by Right. See, I would keep throwing Lawrence Butler breaking balls. Also, two change ups in a row there. 12 pitches, five walks, and seven five balls and seven strikes. One one Butler quarter swing pitch outside. So two and one and three change ups in a row. Change ups to a struggling hitter. Butler 10 for his last 58 with the 0 for three tonight. 2-1 into right field into the corner. That ball is off the top of the wall. Langelers comes home. When it broke, it broke back over the plate and Butler was waiting for it. That did not break the way he wanted it. He didn’t miss a home run by much. Looking at the replay right now. Wow. Was about 2 in off the top of the wall. That wall, by the way, is 4 feet high. So, it doesn’t take much to get it over that wall. Place stops for a moment. They’re looking. What are they looking at? They’re looking at the end of the Yankee dugout. Someone just picked up a camera. Well, the camera fell out of the dugout. Out of the camera world. The camera did fall out of the dugout. Wow. Now the camera’s back where it needs to be. So about a couple inches higher, that’s a home run. But instead a long RBI single. 102 Yankee lead. The pitch outside to Max Schuman. That’s a 97 mph sinker. He’s got I’m I’m right in front of him here and he’s got great movement on that. You need that, as I’ll say it again, the next level of execution. 10 on the outside corner. There’s the next level. One and one. That’s the same pitch. He Rice put it down. Throw it again. Now I know that Rice has been catching people’s bullpens. All this work that we don’t realize, but he catches somewhere every day. One-1. Grounded softly to short. Vulpi right there. Flips to second for the force. That’ll do it. The Yankees win their first ever game in Sacramento and they cruise to a 10-2 victory. Yankees have won three straight in the Stars tonight. Two guys who could be a big part of the Yankee future.
