Stars’ Alex Petrovic Nabs Goal On Connor Hellebuyck’s Gaffe After Lengthy Review
[Applause] Sam Steel up with it. Steel hands it across, lands in it for back to the shot. [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] Score gets the goal and Dallas is out. Well, Gabbor shifting his players around. He’s got Steel with Robertson and Randon giving ice time to some of his offensive players, putting them on that fourth line, trying to create as much offense as he can. And this shot by Robertson is going to bounce around. And the fourth line is going to find her way onto the scoreboard here. And I’m not sure if this who this bounces off at the very end. Is it Is it Steel? Is it Petravic’s goal? I’m not really sure. I think it’s Petravic. That’s what it appeared to be. Follow the bouncing puck. And what a crazy amount of bounces. And they’re going to have a look at this. They’re trying to determine if Petravic got his stick on it after he kicked it because then it would have been off the stick in him. But boy, that is so tough to tell. [Music] Man, I that is hard to see. And the call on the ice is goal. Yeah. So the call on the ice is goal. So if they can’t tell whether or not Petravic hits this puck with his stick or [Music] not, and this is the thing, there’s no doubt it’s a kicking motion, but does it hit a stick on the way through? And and I’m not sure. I’m not sure we can make that call on here. That puck is wobbling, so you can’t say, “Well, it hit the stick and then it started to wobble, so obviously it hit the stick. Does it go off Baron’s shin pad? Does it go?” I mean, all these questions and it’s going to be really hard to tell. I don’t know if they’re ever going to be able to tell if it if it nicked his stick or not. Crowd getting restless. All the players are now going out for a skate here to try and stay loose as we’re beyond 7 minutes on this call. And it looks like they’ve made a determination. And now here we go. It’ll be Graham Skiler with the decision. After video review, the Winnipeg goalie puts the puck into his own net after a kick. It’s a good goal. There you go. So, the goal stands and the Stars had the lead. And now Scott Neil right away wants to have a word with the officials. [Applause] [Music]
Watch as the Dallas Stars earn a bizarre go-ahead goal, as Alexander Petrovic gets the credit for a goal that Winnipeg Jets goalie Connor Hellebuyck tips into his own net, which holds up after a lengthy replay review.

Hellebuyck 2025 playoffs: .848 save % in 10 games
Honestly I think one of the things that made them probably decide it was a goal was, because it wasnt kicked AT the goal, it got put into the goal by the goalkeeper.
Why is the title calling this a Gaffe by Hellebuyck? Bouncy puck while he is in the process of moving the opposite way. Not a Gaffe at all in my opinion.
Hellebuyck was trying to save the puck, I don't know how that is not deemed a deflection. And the rule states: ''A goal cannot be scored by an attacking player who kicks a puck that deflects into the net off any player, goalkeeper or official.''
Winnipeg is done for. They just don't have what it takes to win. Always excuses, excuses, excuses. The refs did this, this person did that, a guy looked at me funny etc. They should just give in now and apologize to the fans, so as not to embarrass the city further.
I hate that the Dallas fans, Still, disrespect our National Anthem, by singing “Stars”… not so much the first time. It is, in fact, “Stars”, but the second time it says, “Star”-Spangled Banner, not Stars- Spangled Banner. And…Congratulations! Mikko is a BadAss…
HOOP
How was this a gaffe on helle. The Dallas player kicked it in and it went off his stick. He was trying to save it. The jets response after is what’s more concerning. Just letting Rantanen just walk in and score.
For those saying "why it counts is because it wasnt kicked AT the net…" – This is COMPLETELY IRRELEVANT according to the leagues own rule book…
The League would need to add in the wording/Phrasing into said rule book, because it doesnt specify in the slightest that it has to be kicked AT the net… It just says "it cant be kicked and then deflect off any part of the goalie, or his stick… Period…
…so I guess the only other logical rational that the league could have, since they themselves admit it was kicked, and then went in off Bucky… Is that it wasnt a "deflection" off bucky… Which is just ridiculous considering its a slow floating knuckler after the kick…
What people need to understand about the rule is that the biggest emphasis is on whether the kick propelled the puck into the net. When it speaks of the puck getting deflected into the net off a player or the goalie, this implies that the momentum is still coming from the kick. Hellebuyck batting at the puck with his stick is what propels the puck into the net in this case.
1+2 for Mikko. Pretty good playoff performance again.
Even without Heiskanen; the Stars look like they can win it all. Scary team.
What if he kicked it across the ice and the defender hit a one-timer shot directly into the net. That would count. Same thing applies here the goalie was the one who shot into his own net. It didn’t just deflect off the stick the goalie pushed it in.
It is ruled a goal on the ice. After a lengthy review New York ruled that it was a good goal because Hellebuyck knocked it into his own net and did not deflect it. I agree with the call that it is a good goal.
That was probably the greatest kick goal of all time considering it was kick from the goal line.
It looked like they took 7 minutes to figure out an explanation to back up why dallas should have a goal that is against the rules. The nhl doesnt want the smallest market in the conference finals. Its fairly obvious.
I'm reading all these comments and no one seems to have noticed (even the officials) that right after the kick, the puck deflected off of Petrovic's stick. You can clearly see the puck's change of direction after the kick in the slow motion video. Therefore, it wasnt even a kick, it was a deflection off his own stick. Good goal.
if comrie is in net it's no goal
If every dumb person saying that the puck was kicked in had eyes, they would have clearly seen that the kicked puck itself must have made contact with the kicker's stick right after, since by the kick itself it was looking like it was not even heading remotely close towards the goalie, so must have had redirection by contact with the stick.
Ни кого не признаем, лупим всех подряд, молодцы.
Absolute trash call. He was trying to save it, the puck came from a kick, like….what??? Also, pretty crappy to say this was the goalie’s “gaffe”. The only “gaffe” was the one made by whoever made that BS call.
