BREAKING: The 49ers Just Made an Enticing Move!

The San Francisco 49ers just made a crazy move. This is a wild piece of news coming out of the Bay Area this morning on this Mother’s Day. I’m excited to get into it in this video. Make sure you hit subscribe if you’re looking for daily 49ers content. Very much appreciate it. But the news to start with is that the 49ers are not done with the wide receiver position. They just brought in this guy, Gabe Davis. Now, you won’t recognize Gabe Davis in that jersey most likely, but you will recognize Gabe Davis in that Buffalo Bills jersey, but Gabe Davis reportedly is flying into San Francisco today to meet with the 49ers. Okay, so let’s there’s a lot to break down with this particular reality, but of course, let’s just go over the basics of where this guy might fit in, who the kind of player that they’re the 49ers might be considering signing. Well, they’re obviously considering signing. They wouldn’t have brought him in if they weren’t considering it at the very least. So, over the course of the last several years, of course, his four years with Buffalo being the most notable ones. You can see uh his target range is much like a kind of a Jawan Jennings not counting last year sort of scenario. Uh he did have 93 targets in 2022. Uh but what Okay, so let’s not get too much in the weeds on that too fast. I think the thing that you really want to catch it, right, is this is a guy who’s a good wide receiver three. He’s he’s a great wide receiver three, a decent wide receiver, too. In our system, I don’t think he’s quite a wide receiver, too. But let’s wait and see cuz he could be he could be a really solid wide receiver, too. We’ll we’ll talk about that later. I think more so what you’re really getting when you what you pay for for Gabe Davis’s efficiency. This these are numbers that I like to see. 17.1 yards per attempt. That’s good. or yards per reception. That’s great. Okay, TDs in in the single digits, but on the higher end of the single digits, that’s good, too. On top of all of that, think about what he would do, what what Kyle Shanahan can do with wide receivers. How Shanahan can scheme things up. And you definitely love the target. Um, he did have that one in 2022, I think it was. Massive 98 yard return. You can see that right here. Uh, but let’s or I guess first play of the game or first play of the drive. Uh, but whatever. When you look at his PFF grades, right, it paints a picture of a guy who’s who’s not your number one target. He’s not your number one guy. And I’ve definitely had him in fantasy in the past. And so, uh, I’ve definitely felt that. But the dude is like is solid. Okay. He’s a solid wide receiver. This game here is, uh, back in the divisional round 20 also 2022 actually, um, when they played the Chiefs, the Chiefs absolutely won on them. I forget what the exact score of the game was, but it was absolutely nasty. But Gabe Davis goes for four touchdowns in this game. Gabe Davis was is a solid player. Obviously, you’re not, you know, from a health perspective has been pretty healthy uh over the course of his career minus last year. He plays almost every game every season. He’s a great big body. Like he’s a solid dude and uh he’s not the biggest player in the world. He’s not the fastest player in the world. He’s not the best hands in the world, but he is a great wide receiver. So, why would the 49ers be interested in bringing this guy in? And what do they want to do with him? Like, I mean, look at the look at that catch. Crazy. This guy is insane. What would the 49ers possibly be doing by bringing in Gabe Davis to talk to them? There’s a a lot of possibilities out there. So, some folks are suggesting that this means that Gabe Davis is going to be uh uh and by the way, later in the video, I’ve got some other stuff, so so don’t go anywhere. But some folks are saying that this is going to be a move for Gabe Davis to come in and Brennan Iayuk to go. I don’t see it that way personally. Now, is it possible that Brennan Iayuk is gone? Is it possible they trade him away? Yes, entirely possible. However, I don’t see Gabe Davis as a Brennan Iayuk replacement. And I think Brandon Iuk is a much better wide receiver, assuming we get him back to the way that he was before. But you let me know in the comments what you think about this one, right? I don’t watch Buffalo week in and week out. I can remember a few standout games like this one, but I don’t remember a number of great deal games um except for the ones that, you know, scored me the most in fantasy. So, as far as I’m concerned, like I think this is a great move if the 49ers can bring him in. I’m just not a 100% sure. Uh, you know, if you trade out Brennan Iayuk, you’re going to do wide receiver by committee as Kyle Shanahan does. I mean, you can make it work for sure, but I don’t think it’s a like for like replacement. I don’t think you’re getting the same guy. What I will say, the one benefit I will throw out there, of course, you got a veteran guy now. You also have a guy whose efficiency numbers are that of Iuk’s. not with as many targets as I had, but high efficiency numbers are definitely something that I would appreciate. Um, let me know in the comments what you think about this one. I think it’s crazy news in general. I wanted to get to something else that uh that came out recently, which was this PFF article, Mason Cameron, PFF analyst, outlining one final offseason move he’d like to see every single NFC team make. And for the San Francisco 49ers, he put the attention on the offensive line. And he suggested this. Go ahead. I’ll throw it on the screen for you that the 49ers should be interested in uh finding interior offensive line depth. If you’re going to hand your quarterback a lucrative contract, it would be wise to shore up the protection in front of him. While the 49ers have taken a few stabs at solidifying the interior this off season, more veteran depth would go a long way. Uh throwing out there Daltton Risner. Daltton Risner would be a oops undo that. uh a positive addition given his experience and grading profile as a pass blocker having earned a 76.1 PFF pass blocking grade in 2024. Now actually if we talk about Daltton Risner for a second. Okay so Dalson Risner if you guys don’t remember him you might remember him in this clip 66 right here uh he’s actually decent on this play but Philip Lindseay the running back not decent on the play uh completely misreads it but absolute monster there. Okay, Dalton Risner. The cool thing about Dalton is not only is he like for some reason my wife is a Broncos fan. Okay, so context, but for some reason one of my wife’s favorite players uh ever. Um and who he’s gone on to play for the Minnesota Vikings. He’s kind of been like a one-year one one-year contract kind of dude uh mercenary type for the last few years now. He was for the last year of the Broncos. He was for each of the years, the last two years with the Minnesota Vikings. The deal with Dalton Rynner is he is so much more than just a player. He’s a great culture guy. He’s a guy that definitely uplifts uh uplifts the culture of the team. Um he’s he’s been award-winning with some of the stuff that he’s done off the field. And so there is something like intriguing to me about bringing in a veteran who is understands his place in the NFL right now. understands he has to earn anything more than being a backup because that’s the level at which he’s been playing. Um, but does grade really well in pass blocking. And that’s an area that I think 49ers are, you know, I I think Kyle Shanahan, John Lynch are more interested when they’re when they’re looking for guys in terms of run blocking and how they move in the in the zone run scheme. But but I do think there’s something to uh you know what as a fan what you’re watching is I want to see better pass blocking. That’s the part where your offensive line is often tripped up. That’s the part where you’d really like to see improvements. And it doesn’t hurt when you can find culture guys which you know John Lynch loves culture guys. John Lynch is all about great athletes and he’s all about guys that are like leadership from within kind of thing. And so I think Dalton Risner would fit that. Not a perfect pickup, not a splash pickup, but between Gabe Davis and Dalton Risyner, there’s a lot of interest going on right now around the 49ers still making a move in free agency. Let me know in the comments what you would like to see happen in free agency. Let me know if you think the 49ers should be moving for Gabe Davis. Let me know if you think that’s a swap. Do you think Gabe Davis in, Brennan Iayuk out, or do you feel differently about uh how that would go? Obviously, Brennan Iayuk’s still got a lot of time left on his contract, so it’s not going to be as simple as by Iayuk, here comes Gabe Davis. But it is interesting for sure, and I’m more than interested in seeing how this all plays out and what the 49ers might be cooking over there, cooking up over there in the Bay Area. Let me know what you think. I look forward to seeing it in the comments. Appreciate you guys as always. Enjoy a happy Mother’s Day.

  1. My Bills fan friend says he's got a case of the dropsy, evidence backed by his low reception to target ratio. Not like Josh Allen is an inaccurate QB either.
    Hard pass.

  2. I actually think it would be a great signing. He has big play ability, he is only 26, and a 1-year contract is perfect to let our other guys get up to speed. I don't know where Robinson is at. I love Jennings, but I've never seen him as a #1. Ricky will be a stud, but his size is a question mark, and Aiyuk is likely not day 1 ready. Low risk, high rewards.

Personally I am more intrigued by Nayor, but lets see how this unfolds

  3. I say we just keep going what we’re doing and play younger players like younger on draft to free agents like Brandon are you is there yes but we’re honestly on a rebuilding phase and to be honest and my experience with Cal Shanahan and his offense you have to be a pretty tall player look what you Jennings is so good. He’s a big physical player who is willing to block and I don’t see Ricky Piersall anything like Cooper Kupp right or Ricky Pierre saw anything like Deebo Samuel Maybe it’s because he was under a situation that had to occur during the off-season but to be honest, I am not 100% sure that we need a better player on the team when from the majority of the office is going to be a lot relying on Christian McCaffrey and Brock Purdy so when you put those people together, it’s not really a plus a better off just keeping John Jennings on the team as your WR one and have additional taller bigger players that take the load off ofJennings for the majority of the game. It’s what I noticed because you have Kittle as well as that new guy that we have gotten that was also you know traded for by the Jaguars to us so I think it’s best if we don’t.

  4. Do they really have more room for receivers?

In my opinion, they absolutely need to keep, Ayiuk, Jennings, Cowing, Piersall. Then there is Robinson and the two rookies.

  5. Gabe Davis doesn't replace what Ayiuk does. I don't think he's as good as Jennings.

I am not against him, I'm just having a hard time seeing him make it with our receivers. We still need to be developing the young recievers.
