Orioles vs. Angels Game Highlights (5/11/25) | MLB Highlights

We welcome you to Angel Stadium on this Mother’s Day. It’s the finale of long home stand for the Halos and of this three-game series, the rubber game against the Baltimore Orioles here at the Big A. Orioles trying to wrap things up here with a series win. Would be their third of the year out here in Anaheim after a tough loss last night. On the mound for the Halos with a record of 2 and 0 and a 2.68 RA left-hander Tyler Anderson. He’s keeping the hitters off balance and their timing has been off against Tyler Anderson so far the All-Star last season. On this Mother’s Day, Brandon Height is Gunnar Henderson leading off at short. That is lined out to the gap in right center field. This ball is going to get down as it lands on the track and bangs up against the wall. Cruising into second, it’s Gunner Henderson and he has got a leadoff double against Tyler Anderson. So, you love to see that against Anderson who we mentioned has had a great year. And Taylor Ward makes the catch on that one. So that’s out number one. And Ryan Mount Castle will be in the next batter. Mount Castle off to a bit of a slow start, but another guy who’s done well against the Angels in his career. And that is a called third strike. Here’s a fast ball at 90. And out looking is Mount Castle. So after the leadoff double, the next two have been retired. Still the runner at second. And it brings up the cleanup batter today at Lee Rutman who’s been quiet in the first two games of the series, 0 for nine. And Rutchman serves it into left for Taylor Ward who couldn’t find it. And it’s going to drop way over his head. What a break for the Orioles. A ball up into the sun that might have deflected off one of the rays. It comes down for a popup triple and a one- nothing lead. Well, the way he played it, Kevin, you you think it’s going to be a short fly ball. I mean, almost got to the warning track. The batter now Raone Lauriano has always had success against the Angels. Two-2 change up got him to cut through a miss. Henderson punches out two, but a double by Henderson and a suned triple for Adley Rutman means the Orioles have a one- nothing lead. And Zack Efflin returning to the mound for the Orioles has missed the last month of the lat injury. And he’s thrown really well in his career versus the Angels. Two-1 237 area. Love to see this. Two fast outs for Zack Effing. A couple of real easy outs here to start things off and Jorge Ser will be the next batter. Zack Epin who’s allowed three runs or less in his last 13 starts. That’s tied the second longest active streak in the majors. Line drive right center field. Mullins gets over and can’t get there. It’s a base hit. Ser running pretty gingerly to first as he has a two out base hit and Taylor Ward will be the next batter. This plays the ball in the first inning and offensively nothing is going right either. In his last 19 games, he is 7 for68. Here’s the next delivery. That’s lifted in the air down the right side. That could be trouble. It’s going to drop in and roll out to the short wall. Ball gets away a little bit from O’Neal. They’re going to wave Solair home and he will score now. Breaking for third is Ward and he is safe. Boy, right away Solair’s tested all the way from first. Scores in that double down the right field line. My god, you got yourself a tie ball game. So, we’ll see what Oh can do. and he swings at the first pitch and lines a base hit into center field. Angels have a 2-1 lead. And boy, the Angels have had three straight two out hits here to take a 2-1 advantage. So just like that, Halos with two runs again in the first inning. Batter now for the Angels will be Joe Adele. He’s hitting out of the sixhole today. Runner goes, three/4ers swing and a miss and Adele is down on strikes. Well, the Angels get a pair and take a first inning lead into the second. And so two to one the Angels lead and it’s going to be Jackson Holiday that is going to lead things off here in the top of the second. Jackson Holiday lines with a shot of left. Ward comes in and makes a catch as he tumbles over. Yeah, he had a great read on that one. So he comes up with that one and he had to hustle in to make the grab. That ball was not in the air very high at all. He caught it about waist high diving forward to make the grab. Yeah. did and not have to worry about the sun on that play. And the inning is over. So, a fly out to all three of the Angels outfielders in the inning. Just the second walk of the year for Zack Efflin in his 80th batter faced. Runners at first and second. Taylor Ward, who’s doubled in a run now, will be the next batter for the Angels. Facing his former little league teammate. We know that Ward in the major leagues is 5 for 10 against Effin. Here’s a line drive. A base hit for Ward the other way. Alcado will be held at third base as the throw comes in from O’Neal. And now Solair made it all the way to third. So the Angels will run into an out here as Solair goes back towards second base. And with Solair in a rund down. Ward stays at first and a mistake on the bases. That really wasn’t his fault though. N that was a late hold by Bo Porter on Monata who was racing around third. Made the turn. That is unfortunate right there. And the Angels have them at first and third now with two outs. And now one good pitch by Efflin will get the Orioles out of this bottom of the third. Down just a run. Poppy bouncer to third. Rivera plays the hop. Goes to second. And miraculously the Orioles don’t allow a run in the bottom of the third. Second defensive miscue behind the Angels today. Although Taylor Ward did not get an error for his earlier. Tyler Anderson have to pitch around. Another defensive mistake here. Mollins has gradually slid down the order. If he’s can get back on time, you know that he can carry you. He’s on a 3-2. Great controlled swing there. That ball rolls all the way to the wall and right center and Rivera stops at third with Mullins into second as Cedric smashes out of an 0 for 20 with a left on left double. You know, this is not ideal in the sense of who’s batting. Maverick Hanley, a very young hitter. And then with a slow runner at third base, Hanley belts it to left field. Ward is there, makes the catch. Rivera tags and Rivera scores. So Maverick Hanley has his first RBI in the big leagues on a sacrifice fly to left and he ties the game at two. So the Angels are going to intentionally walk Tyler O’Neal with first base open and face Ryan Mount Castle now with two outs and runners at the corners. It’s an interesting play, but you have first base open and he said, “You know what? I’ll take Mount Castle instead.” Mount Castle to right field. That’s down for a base hit. And the Orioles make the Angels pay after the intentional walk. Ryan Mount Castle delivers a go-ahead single for a 3-2 lead. Zack Efflin’s trying to make it 14 consecutive starts with three runs or less allowed. He’s trying to get through five innings of two-run ball in his return. Ground ball out to the hole at shortstop. Circled by Henderson. Moves towards first. Fires that way. Soler is out and Zack Efflin. That’s five innings of two-run baseball in his return from the injured list. And Lariano steals second and then forces an error by the pitcher Brockden. And he’s at third base with only one out. skips away from Oh, Lauriano can walk in this time and a rather erratic fourth run comes across for the Orioles. A single off the bat of Mullins, his second hit today. And the Angels are in some more trouble here in this inning with only one out. Maverick Hanley who’s 0 for one plus a sacrifice fly. Maverick Hanley bunts it. It goes back to the pitcher. Well done. A suicide squeeze and the Orioles had another run. Two outs and here is Gunnar Henderson who has a double and a run scored. Henderson way up in the air deep to right field. It was hit very high and it’s gone. Oh my goodness. A moonball up into the Southern California sky and down off the scoreboard. And the Orioles feel the need for a fiveun lead. Rutman as a left-handed batter for the first time. He’s tripled in a run today. Fly ball to center field from Rutman. Hit pretty well. Paris is back for it. Reaching for the wall. He’s up against the fence and he makes the catch. What a play by Paris. He caught it. An excellent play up around the top of the fence by Kairen Paris. Yeah, he brought that one back. And the Angels are now down to their final out in this ball game. Here’s Matthew Lugo who had his first major league hit, an RBI triple last night. Go get him, kid. Face Yes. Yes, we’ll face one of the best closers in all the world. Let’s go up and hit a home run then for fun. He hits one out to left and all the fun being had by Matthew Luggo. It’s his first major league home run. That was massive, too. Boy, he hit that one out of sight. Wow, that is a bomb, too. It’s a no doubter. Family still on board. What a Mother’s Day present. And there’s a cut and a miss for strike three. The Orioles take a series in Hanaheim on Mother’s Day. In his return, Zack Efflin goes five innings of two-run baseball, giving them two of three before heading home and beginning a new series on Tuesday night.
