How did Jets react to controversial goal in third period?

All right, for more on this Dallas Stars game three victory. They’re up 2-1 in the series and our Winnipeg Bureau Chief John L on the road with the Jets in Dallas. Great to see you, buddy. We got to talk about that controversial goal call in the third period. Lengthy review, well over five minutes. They determined that Connor Halabuck put the puck into his own net after a kicking motion resulting in a good goal. Now, John, my question for you is how did the Jets react to the explanation and how did they react to the ruling? Yeah. Well, Jay, uh Scott Arneal clearly did not agree with the assessment. He said he used the word propelled. That was what was told to him by the on ice official that the puck once it that that the admission was that it was a kicking motion off of Alex Petravic’s skate. However, what the official said that told Scott Arneal was that Connor Hellabuk propelled the puck into his own net and that is what legitimized the goal because if you look at the ruling if a puck is kicked and it deflects off a goalie then it is not considered a goal. So the fact that the on ice officials in the situational room deemed that it was a kick and then that Connor Hella played the puck as in propelling it into his own net that in their view is what legitimized the goal. Scott Arneal clearly didn’t agree with it. Of course Pete Dbor did and so that was that. But I’ll tell you though Jay that the fans in the building here they were getting pretty ticked off that they started booing because the review was waiting or that it was taking so long. And uh you know I was like when the review started the the in-game people here in Dallas started playing freeird and Leonard Skinner’s classic of 9 minutes and 10 seconds elapsed. Wow. Before the ruling came down. So that line if I leave here tomorrow. Well Jay at one point we thought that we might be leaving the building on Monday because it was taking so long. Ah I’m glad I love your knowledge of song lengths of rock classics. that’s come that’s really come into play in a big way in your career my friend. Uh so then less than a minute later uh Miko Rantin scores his league leading ninth goal of the playoffs. In a way you know the Jets were still very much in that game but that Rantin goal ends up being kind of the final nil in the coffin doesn’t it? Yeah and you know what it’s very conspicuous at that point. Miko Rantin with a goal and two assists that now makes six points in the three games in this series so far. pretty conspicuous, but the Jets were considering the fact that the the goal that got that ruled against them was a momentum shift. They didn’t say that the length of the review and the fact that it went against them affected their game. Having said that, the rant and goal, you saw it, a turnover at the offensive blue line, transition by the Stars, and then their superstar walks Dylan Samberg, roofs it past a screen Connor Hella, and that was essentially the dagger. But up until that point or until the the the disputed goal, Scott O’Neal said that they liked their game coming out of the second period tied 2-2. The fact that they fought back from a pair of one-goal deficits, Connor Hellabuk was playing exceptionally well. A couple of really five alarm bell saves at high danger in the second period in the second half of that period that kept the Jets in the game tied at two. It’s just that bad luck, a really crazy moment that’ll be talked about and debated for a long time went against them and then you saw the end result. But the Jets did like their game up until that point. So that’s Hey, they got to just park that one, flush it, and get back at it two days from now. Yeah, you said it, buddy. Uh they can’t think about it too much. They’ll try to even the series Tuesday night back in Dallas. And we will talk to this guy right after that game four. This is John Lou, our TSN Winnipeg bureau chief.

TSN Winnipeg Bureau Reporter John Lu joins SC with Jay Onrait to discuss the Jets reaction to the controversial go-ahead goal awarded to the Stars in the third period of Game 3, and what Winnipeg can do to slow down Mikko Rantanen, who is having an incredible run so far in these playoffs.

  1. They reacted by failing on on the powerplay and failing to react to the goal in general. So is the coach saying the jets lost bc of this goal? So the jets threw in the towel and allowed the stars to score twice with no response ? Why aren’t the jets more upset about that?

  2. Correct judgement. The puck wasn't going to the goal… until goalie slaps it there. It would be a different thing if he kicked it to the goal, not past it with a goalie intervention deciding goal.

  3. Why did the Stars players get assists if it was an own goal?
Just goes to show the rules are whatever.

Dallas player slashed a ref (which is an automatic 10 game suspension), but nah, no penalty.

  4. Rantanen the shift before with his teammate hit Kyle Connor into the boards/bench way after an offside whistle, no call for roughing or interference. Back the other way and scores. They missed that, Trips from Winnipeg players and way more but no the NHL doesn’t have an officiating problem no way 😒

  5. The rule does not differentiate between touching a goalie's stick or inadvertently "Propelling" the puck in while using the stick to Attempt a save. Ref explanation makes no sense.

  6. i think it actually hits Petrovics stick. Ive seen an angle this morning where you can see (not 100%) the puck alter its motion after something(obscured by a leg) touches it …after the foot. ….So all of that is void. And nobody can prove otherwise…Not even the NHL(thus why the call stood)

  7. Regardless of whether or not that 3rd goal was a good or bad decision – the team absolutely can not just crumble and fall apart because a call doesn't go their way.

Jets MUST fix their mental game if they are going to have any hope of getting through the post season.

  8. watch at 0:45 after the "kick' the trjectory of the puck was towards the blueline and distincly changes direction towards the front of the net….when you see the replay from the bluelineangle it looks like the trajectory of the puck changed when it went by Petrovic's stick

  9. Good goal or not, you dont just roll over if it doesnt go your way. There was 16 minutes left to make that goal not matter. Instead, they gave up a legitimate goal the next shift
