Round Two Preview – Stars vs Jets
Welcome back. All right, the fourth matchup in the second round is set, which is good because the second round’s getting started tonight. Uh, this matchup starts two days from today and it it conflicts with local games here in Abbottzford. So, uh, we are season ticket holders in Abbottzford. I don’t get to go and see games. Uh, my wife’s going to take the kids to see the games, but it means she’s she’s going to miss. Uh, the Winnipeg Jets hosting, uh, Dallas for the most part. She’s going to miss unless the games go to overtime and it’ have to be a healthy overtime. Um she she’s going to miss this. She’ll have to kind of watch on her phone while she’s at the Abbottzford games which is too bad because this series is going to be excellent. The good news is I think this series is going to go on for a while. So if she misses the first couple of games, I think this series could go six. It could go seven. I think these teams match up very well with one another. We’ll look at the regular season matchups and and just for the record, I’m only wearing Dallas because I’m a Dallas fan. I I honestly I don’t know who’s going to win this series and I don’t know how invested I am in it. Like I like the Jets. I like the Stars. This is going to be the first time where there’s been a series between two teams that I genuinely like um in a while. Yeah, it’s been a while. So, I’m I’m just I’m I’m looking forward to enjoying it. Now, during the regular season, for what it’s worth, uh the Jets did not have much trouble with Dallas. Uh November 9th, Winnipeg won 4 to1. December 1st, Dallas won 3:1. March 14th, Winnipeg won 4 to1 and April the 10th, Winnipeg won 4-0. So when you look at that, um, yeah, Winnipeg had had their way with Dallas during the regular season and had his struggles. So in the last round, Winnipeg Hellabuk struggles against St. Louis. However, now Auer’s against a team that’s given him a bit of a headache. So it is going to be interesting to see how this turns out. Uh, Winnipeg in the regular season, which ended forever ago. 5622 and4 record 116 points. So the President’s Trophy winners are still alive in the second round. Uh Dallas 50 26 and six record 106 points. They had their eyes on that u that that President’s Trophy until they they lost their last seven to round out the season. But now we’re into the second round. So this is going to be a very very interesting matchup in that on the Winnipeg side it is an impressive lineup indeed. Uh, starting with Kyle Connor, seven games, four goals, eight assists, 12 points. Had a ridiculously good first round. Uh, Shley missed the last couple of games of the first round. We’ll see what his status is for round two. Five games, two goals, four assists, six points. Uh, Mason Appleton, seven games, six assists for Appleton. Uh, Perfetti, seven games, three goals, two assists, five points. Uh, Pian, seven goals, one or seven games, one goal, four assists, five points. and he played uh 46 minutes plus of hockey last night. So, we’ll see if he’s really well hydrated and ready to go in a couple of days here. Uh Nomesticov, seven games, two goals, two assists, four points, had himself quite the game, seven. Uh Lowry, seven games, three goals. And of course, the goal that sends Winnipeg into this round against Dallas. Moresy and Samberg both had three assists in seven games. We’ll see what the status is with Moresy once we uh get into this series. uh in net Connor Halabuk 4 and3 record um 830 safe percentage it has to go up against Dallas. I I really think too part of it is psychological once once he got his head in the game last night he was a lot better. I I thought that second goal last night not not great and then he almost allowed one right after but they got it together and they won. Comry has made an appearance in these playoffs with a 923 safe percentage. Obviously no record. Other notables, Luke Shen had a rough first round. He was a minus eight in those seven games. Uh the one assist is it is what it is. Like Luke Shen’s not an offensively minded defenseman, but that minus eight, that’s tough. Uh Nick Eers only played two games in that first round, had one assist. And Gabriel Valardi played three games, did not record a point in that first round. Valardi, Eers, Schiffley, a lot of good forwards here that Winnipeg’s going to be hoping are in the lineup and 100%. On the Dallas side, Mo Rantinan, what a first round against his former club. Seven games, five goals, seven assists, 12 points. If that’s how he plays against guys that he likes and calls his brothers, how many points is he going to put up against guys that he doesn’t have any particular feelings for? Uh, Roe hints, seven games, four goals, three assists, seven points for him. Uh, Wyatt Johnston, seven games, three goals, four assists, seven points. Really strong first round for Johnston. Harley, seven games, two goals, three assists, five points. Tyler Sean, seven games, two goals, two assists, four points. Um, Mason Marchman, seven games, one goal, two assists, three points. Both Cody Cece and Matt Duchain, uh, three assists in seven games. Duchain was very snake bit in the first round. We’ll see if that keeps up in the second. Uh, Jamie Ben, a goal, an assist, two points in seven games. He had some penalty minutes last night. They’re going to want to stay out of the box against Winnipeg. Uh, Donov, just a goal and an assist for two points in seven games. Same for Granland, a goal and an assist, two points in seven games. So, a lot of depth on Dallas and some guys that had some struggles in the first round. We’ll see if they get things going in the second round. Jakeer, four and three with a 911 save percentage. Casey de Smith did see some time in that first round. No record and a 929 save percentage. So, both Auter and Hlebuck got pulled in the first round. Hellbuck I I believe all three games in St. Louis. The good news for Winnipeg, of course, is as the president’s trophy winners. Again, if we go to get game seven, it’s in Winnipeg. Uh Essa Lindell, one assist in seven games in that first round. Maverick Bourc only got into two games. Did not get a point. We’ll see if he plays at all in this round. And Bishell, uh Bishell showing a lot of toughness, taking major hits and managing to stay in the game. Uh no points in seven games, but the guy’s a beast. So, yeah. Uh Bishell, we’ll see if he gets on the score sheet, but he doesn’t really need to. Dallas has a lot of weapons offensively. Getting into the stats and comparing uh between these two teams in the first round, they both had their struggles. That’s what makes this series to me interesting. Both teams scored an even three goals per game in that first round. So that’s even goals against. Both of them allowed more goals than they scored. Uh Dallas 3.43 goals against per game. Uh Winnipeg 3.86 goals against per game. So as I mentioned, Auer had some struggles. Not as bad as Hellabuk, but it was there. So maybe in this series, maybe it ends up being a really high-scoring series, or maybe they both get their defense under control. Uh, power plays favors Dallas from round one, 30.4% versus the 22.7% for Winnipeg. Penalty kill that favors Dallas as well, 86.4% versus 76.9% for the Winnipeg Jets. Uh, hits per 60 minutes heavily favors Winnipeg. 42.35 hits per 60 minutes. Dallas 28.15 hits per 60 minutes. Dallas isn’t really a big hitting team. Uh, block shots per 60. They do block shots though. 18.41 block shots per game per 60 minutes for Dallas. On the Winnipeg side, 13.28 block shots per 60 minutes. Uh, this is where it gets interesting, too. Both of these teams good at comebacks and also good at falling behind in games. Um, both teams are 1 and0 when they’re leading after the first. So, these teams are in the second round. They’ve won four games and once they’ve had a lead after the first period. So, are we going to see scoreless ties after the first period in every game of this series? We’ll see. Uh, the Stars are one and one when they’re leading after two. So, and that gets even more interesting when we get into the other stats on the board. Uh both of them are 1 and two when they’re trailing after the first. Uh Winnipeg, for the record, is 1-0 if they’re leading after two. So they’ve only been leading after the second period once in these playoffs. Uh the Stars are three and two in these playoffs if they’re trailing after the second period. This is why me talking about Dallas starting on time is out there, but Winnipeg is two and three when they’re trailing after the second period. So that means that in the combined what 14 games these teams have played um that’s 10 times that the team that was trailing ended up uh or no 10 times the team that won the series was trailing after the second period out of the 14 games just ridiculous. Of course what was it the first 14 games Dallas had the lead for like a minute and for Winnipeg they got lit up every time they went to St. Louis. So there there are reasons to be concerned on both sides. There are worrying trends for both teams. I don’t think that trailing after two periods and then relying on comebacks is a recipe for success. We’ll see how things change in the second round. Every series has its own feel. Every series is different. And so we’ll see how this one goes. Who wins this first ever matchup between the Stars and the Jets? Um the fans do. and it guarantees that in the conference final, uh, there will be a team that I’m I’m really hoping does actually go all the way and win the whole thing. And so, this is this is going to be a fun central matchup. I’m I’m really looking forward to these matchups in in this round. And we’ll see how it goes. Let me know your thoughts in the comments section below. As always, hit like and subscribe in the event you may not have done so already. Thank you guys so much for all your support. It is greatly appreciated. And uh yeah, this is this is going to be a fun one, I think. Uh and a little bit unpredictable, too. So, again, I’m I’m wearing Dallas, but I I don’t really I don’t really don’t really care who wins the m wins this matchup. I I just think we’re going to see some really good hockey. But, uh yeah, let me know your thoughts. Thank you guys so much for all your support. I will talk to you again soon.
I am a fan of first time match ups. This one should be excellent.

Stars in 6. Lets GO!!!
This should be a GREAT series! Jets fan here! I'm picking the Jets in 5 – but no disrespect to the Stars at all. I think if there is a Game 6 in Dallas, the Stars probably win that one – and that would mean another game 7 for both of these teams!! I'm not sure I could handle ANOTHER Game 7!! LOL!! Both teams had spectacular comebacks in Period 3 of game 7 in the first round – I was spellbound by what Rantennen and the Stars did in that game 7, period 3! And of course, the Jets has their own spectacular drama in OT2 of Game 7. Let's hope it's a great series!!
Stars in 6
Come on, Hockey Guy. Get with it… SON!
With a setup like that Ron MacLean would surely have said…
Wait for it…
'Six APPLES FOR APPLE-TON!'
JETS baby. I think this will be a great series and I believe in the boys in blue but it will be tough
Stars in 4 or 5, jets are mentally not ready
Stars in five, as a Jets fan
Rantanen vs Conner
Helleybuck vs otter
Injured returning (who can faster)
The one thing no one’s talking about is that the jets are averaging almost 50 hits/game. Yes I’m a jets fan but god dayme gonna be fun and intense. GL star’s
Don't hold your breath Yvonne.
I'm an Oilers fan, but I have developed a real soft-spot for the Jets. So-much-so, I'd say they are my fave 2nd team by some distance over Calgary. Always fast and exciting, lol maybe too much sometimes, but with an A grade keeper in Hellebuyck I feel a little safer. A lot of folks don't know Glen Sather effectively pinched the Jets offensive patterns in the AHL and modded them for Gretzky. It's such a ballsy and quietly influential small market team. I wish them all the best.
I think Dallas is the favourite here.
if helleybuck is more comfortable this series and plays with his vezina mindset, I believe the jets will win this series (probably in 6 games) but if helleybuck struggles like he did versus St. louis, I see dallas winning this series.
either way, it's going to be an interesting matchup and sure hope the Jets can win the series (I'm a jets fan lol)
I have a sneaking suspicion we’re going to get regular season Jets and not the first round Jets. Go Stars.
Hockey Guy as far as your marriage is concerned you better hope the Jets beat the Stars. LOL
No mention of robo or miro coming back?
Stars in 6.
Stars lose gm1, win gm2-4, lose gm5, and close it out at home in gm6.
Stars fan here. Go Stars! Thanks for the support and impartial reporting!
Stars in 6
Expecting a 7 game battle this series and the tendies to put together a clinic. So someone probably sweeps in a buncha 7 goal games
As a stars fan, I had 0 faith in Dallas going into the first round and especially after game 1. The team just looked awful. Even throughout the series, it just felt that the Avs were going to pull it off, but Dallas pulled off the miracle. I am hoping that with Robo and Miro coming back, it will make a bigger difference and fire up the rest of the team. Just like the first round, it feels like the Jets are the better team going in with the Stars being the slight underdog, but that doesn't mean they can't/won't pull it off. I hope to see Dallas come out tonight and put the Jets on their heels. They can't take their foot off the gas even if up by 2 or more. Go Stars!
The jets are a VERY strong team this year, and I think they’ll give even the eventual “full power” stars a run for their money, especially considering Dallas’s offensive output is riding on that Rantanen line at the moment. Stars other big guns will need to make their presence known if they wanna get past Hellebuyck. Same case with the jets though, it’s tough to make it through the otter! I bet the Oilers or Knights will be glad they didn’t have to go through any of these teams so far, because whoever comes out on top will definitely have had the most brutal journey to the WCF. Stars in 7 I think but who knows? anything can happen.
