There is still a lot of “if” to this, as it requires a Stars-Hurricanes Cup final which is far from a guarantee.

BUT in the interest of discussion and hockey lore, I’ve been trying to figure out if this has ever happened previously, where a player has:
1. Played for 3 teams in the same regular season;
2. All 3 teams have qualified for the playoffs; and
3. The bracket aligns such that the player plays against both former teams in the same playoffs.

I’ve done what digging I can and as far as I can tell, it’s never happened before. But it’s a difficult series of events to look up and the playoff format has changed enough that it could have happened in ye olde hockey days.

Does anyone know if this has happened before?

  1. There is def a group of canes fans that want this if we were to make it. Just to stick it to Mikko.

  2. So if Dallas plays Carolina in the final, does he get his name on the cup no matter what? Or is that just baseball?

  3. Rantanen has the chance to pull the greatest double homicide in sports history

  4. Can’t wait for the hawks – stars WCF. That has got to be the former team, right?

  5. Dallas vs Carolina in the playoffs with Rantanen having a huge series would make him one of the most hated players in Carolina history
