Saints Have MASSIVE Cap Space After Derek Carr Retirement! | New Orleans FINALLY Rebuilding?
What up? Tob here and Jake as well. And look at you. You done stumbled upon little OTB Saints where we bring you all the latest black and gold coverage. Who are the Saints going to draft? Who’s going to be their quarterback? What does the salary cap look like? All that information and more. Hope you enjoy it. Like, subscribe. It is no secret that the New Orleans Saints have had one enemy above all these past few years, and it has been the salary cap. Oh, I was going to say themselves, but that kind of plays into the same thing, right? Um, one begets the other. Uh but yes, look, they engaged in a strategy that worked for a long time when you had a great quarterback and when your window was open of kick basically kicking the can down the road, counting on the cap to rise and kind of never having to pay the piper because as money comes off, more comes on and again the cap continuously rises. And this is a valid strategy. This is what Philly does. This is what a lot of people do. But then COVID came and the cap went down and so a lot of that long-term accounting got screwed up. That’s why you lose Trey Hendricks and other guys like that. Then you didn’t have a great quarterback, but you still desperately tried to cling on to this strategy like it was that door that Rose is laying on in Titanic only to realize you were never Rose. You were always Leo and you were drowning. So what did Leo do? He let go. The New Orleans Saints have finally let go. Do you remember what happened when Leo let go though? Yeah. He sank to the bottom. Yeah. He died. Yeah. Yeah. Dude, the Saints have to burn it down. Okay. You have to die to rise again. a phoenix from the ashes. Make no mistake, death is knocking on the door. The next two years do not look good. But as Mike Trible said of New Orans Football quote, “Forget about the light at the end of the tunnel. The Saints can see the full exit now because with this Derek Carr news in the short term, you’re going to have about $20 million in cap space after signing your draft class. So, you can make some moves if you want. Um, and then entering 2026, it is estimated that you’ll be about 10 to 20 over the salary cap. Now, the final hurdle, the final boss remains dead money because even with Derek Carr, you got the 50 million to split over two years. And how about this, Jake? If you don’t resign Cam Jordan, Mario Davis, Tyron, I mean, who knows if Taesm Hill retires, what happens there, but you could be looking at a dead money total next year of a hundred million. Yeah. Which is insane. But it’d be one year and then you would officially have clean books once again. And maybe you try to foster a young team during that time. Rookie, you know, two young tackles, young quarterback. Well, we’ll see where it ends up going. So, I’m not saying that the immediate future is bright, but we have moved past light at the end of the tunnel and we may be into full exit mode as triplet wrote. Let go, sink, die, freeze, and rise again. A wonderful movie directed by James Cameron 40, you know, 100 years later. Where do you think Dabot’s milk? I don’t know if he’s like where he’s at. What’s this? His third third ACL tear since I don’t know. And he had BYU had two I was about to say he had two in college then one in the NFL right now. He’s had other injuries. Yeah, man. I He’s in his 30s. God, I don’t really know how much more Taesm can do. How much can your body? very effective. But 34, maybe 33. Either way, I mean, 30s. I never, you know, I never had any problems with football. And now all of a sudden, what my I’m 30. I just can’t even move my shoulder. Can’t even do plank anymore. And this guy’s played about 18,000 billion more snaps than I did. Absolutely brutal. So, I don’t I don’t think you can count on him at all. No, no, no, no, no. He’s on anything that can I I am expecting him definitely almost not to play this year but more so just like if he ever plays again good but I don’t I don’t know. Yeah. So there is a little bit of light at the end of the tunnel again like we said or an exit but first let go. Wow. Just amazing black and gold takes right there Jake. I don’t think I’ve ever heard any takes that are better than the two guys that just gave you that take. And you can keep getting them by going ahead and liking, subscribing, ringing the bell to get notifications when we post. Have a great day. We’ll see you on the next OTB safe.
