LIVE: Los Angeles Dodgers vs Oakland Aโ€™s โ€“ West Coast Baseball Showdown! โšพ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ May 15, 2025

Lawrence Butler. [Applause] Not close with that one. And we’re underway. Now a high-fly ball out to left center. Edmond in position, brings it in, and there’s one away. And time now to check out the A’s lineup. Big challenge for them today as they take on a pitcher who brings electric stuff and really racks up the strikeouts. Yeah. And it’s all about making good contact against a pitcher like this. You’re not going to get very many pitches to hit in an at bat, maybe even in a game. So you got to be ready, zoned in in the spot where you think you’ve got the best chance and jump all over. It might be the first pitch in the at bat. So you better walk up there ready from the jump. If they can make early consistent contact, I think they’ll have a much better shot against it. One down, base is empty. One ball, one strike. And that is downstairs. And it’s two and one. One out. Base is empty. That one finds the zone. It’s two and two. down to the dirt swing and a miss in time for the second out. Good job to clean it up after the drop third strike. Boogie just ran out of patience there. He took a couple of pitches to even that count off and two balls in two strikes, but that time chased outside the zone. This is JJ Bladeet and first offering is fouled off. He’s a bad ball hitter. So even if you get him to chase pitches outside the zone, he still might beat you. Not an easy out by any means. Two out space is empty. Misses inside and the count even one and one. swings through that. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. Battling here as he fouls it away. popped up foul territory behind a plate. Smith makes the grab and that is that and the Dodgers are coming up to hit. No score. It’s Major League Baseball and it’s on the show. Back here in LA and pitching in this game, Luis Severino. What do we need to know here about the right-hander? Well, he comes at hitters with a five pitch mix. So, for him, it’s always interesting to see how he utilizes those weapons. He may lean on one or two pitches depending on how things are going and how things are working. But if he can control four or even five of those offerings, look out hitters. It’s going to be a tough day. He’s really going to be able to keep those guys off balance. Here’s Mookie Betts. That misses ball one. Turns and fires. Bad ball to two and 0. [Applause] That one’s spoiled. And the count now two and one. [Applause] That’s foul off to the right side. Keeps the AB going. Severino kick, steals, and it remains two and two. [Music] swings through it and that’s a strike out. Batting second. Here comes Tommy Edmond. Edmond. Basketball for a strike. And here it comes. Swinging it a foul back and that’s out of play. [Music] And that one is downstairs. And the count is one and two. and he grounds one to the right side, takes it to the bag, steps on first, and it’s out number two. Time to check out the Dodgers lineup. The sluggers of this lineup might not be too happy about the fact that the wind is blowing in today, Chris. Yeah, and you hear pitchers talk about how good it feels when the wind is at their back. And for hitters, you almost feel like beyond just the pitcher coming at you, you’ve got this other force coming against you. So important to try to get on top of the ball in terms of hitting line drives. You know, maybe really hard ground balls with a good exit velocity that’ll get you a base hit because it’s very frustrating. You just hit one on the screws, think it’s going to go out of the ballpark and an outfielder is camped underneath it in front of the warning track. Swing and a popup. Foul territory for the catcher. He’s got it. And that is that. Onto the second now from Dodger Stadium. No score. All set for the start of the inning. And now here’s the A’s catcher, Shay Langalers. This is a guy who is very highly regarded defensively. Fun to watch him control stuff behind the plate. Good game caller, good at framing, but it’s that big arm that really stands out. Otani back to work. Yeah, that’s fouled off. When you got a catcher like this guy with a big arm like that behind the plate, it really shuts down the running [Music] game. And that one is lifted in the air. Edmond going after it. Drops into the glove and a quick out number one. That fifth first base. And here’s the first baseman, Tyler Sodstrom. All right, sing. You know I’m a dork. Show Otani. Go back to May 5th, 2022 at Fenway Park. He tossed a complete game through 99 pitches. Get this, 81 strikes. It was the most strikes thrown with less than 100 pitches in a game since they started tracking pitch counts. That’s just unreal. And that’s in there at the knees. All right. Now, he may have not liked either of those first two pitches or agreed with the umpire’s calls, but at this point, he’s going to have to bear down and be ready to hit anything close to the zone. That missed by a lot. And it’s one and two. Line drive caught. Nothing you can do about those as a hitter. Even though you know that, they still drive you absolutely crazy. Two outs. Base is empty. Now it’s the second baseman, Zack Gellof. Gellof starting up the middle at second. 25 years old. He’s one of the few Major League Baseball players born in the state of Delaware. And a foul ball. ripped on a line, drops for a hit. He couldn’t run it down. Now he’ll turn for second and he starts his afternoon off right with a double. Couldn’t have timed it up any better than that. Nice line drive met out front, but just stayed through it nice enough and ripped it into the outfield. Runner in scoring position now and a good opportunity to push across the first run of the ball game. So here’s Brown at the plate. That one fouled off. Well, they’re looking to get on the board first here after that clutch two out double made this inning interesting. Gellof on at second with two down. Next offering is in for a strike. Well, we call that keyh holding. Even though it’s right there and looks pretty good, if he doesn’t love it, he’s not going to swing that early in the count. And at second out to center, Edmond settles underneath it and that is that. The A’s strand one. We’ll go to the bottom of the second. No score. [Music] Ready to go for the last half of the inning. Here’s Tay Oscar Hernandez. T Oscar Hernandez. [Music] Fouled off. He was late. [Music] Severino. This one chopped on the ground but foul. [Music] Swings and misses. It’s a strike out. Chase the fastball up the ladder for strike three. Well, that high forcing fast ball, it’s become such a staple as a strikeout pitch over the years. And what’s so tough as a hitter is that you see it extremely well. The problem is the velocity at spin rate just happens to jump by you. You expand your zone. You don’t stay tall on the backside and you’re really not even able to make contact. If you do, many times it’s a popup. Will Smith in now takes ball one off the plate. Nothing nothing here in the bottom of the second. Fast ball for a strike. Looks like a really good fast ball today. You can hear that catcher mitt popping. Looking forward to hearing a lot of that one in this one. [Applause] That misses the zone. And that’s ball two. [Applause] Swang and a ball lifted in the air. Leed puts it away for the out. That’s out number two. Batting six, third baseman Max. And now it’s Maxy. Big time power. [Music] at 96. That pitch is in for a strike. There it was. Oh, here it is. Hit it. He gets a take. Gets ahead in the count. That one outside and it’s one and one. And there’s a ball. One strike. running track and you can touch them all. Baseball [Applause] man, a soaring shot to center. It’s one- nothing. He absolutely crushed that one. No doubt about that one, Boo. We knew it wasn’t coming back. [Applause] Anytime you have a pitch down the middle of the plate, the percentages go up for the hitter to do damage, even if it’s a pretty good sinker like that one. Nice piece of hitting there at the plate. [Applause] Two down, base is empty. And next for LA, Andy Pahes. Foul ball there. Two down, base is empty, but one run across. Bottom half of inning number two. Next offering is in for a strike. [Applause] That one just misses. Really good take, especially with two strikes. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. That K is his third of the game. But they’re off to a good start as they pick up a run on this solo shot. It’s now a one- nothing ball game. [Music] And we’re back. Here’s Luis Aras, third baseman Luis. How about this one, Boog? In 2023, Aras hit grand slams for Boston in back-to back plate appearances. They happened on different days, but he still became the first Red Sox player to do it since Jimmy Fox in 1940. Gets the outside corner with that one. Man, that pitch was dotted. So much talent on display when this guy’s out there on the hill. That clips the corner. [Applause] bows it off. Still one and two. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. Swing and a miss for the strike out. Smith gathers, throws in time, and a drop third strike leads to the first out. And here is Jacob Wilson. That one the other way. Oh, he loves it. That swing right there tells me he’s seeing the ball pretty well. I know it didn’t produce a hit, but he made solid contact, and that’s all you’re looking to do anytime you’re at the plate. So the batting order turns over. Now it’s the right fielder Lawrence Butler 0 for one with a fly out to center. That’s in there and it’s 0 and one. This guy is just filling up the strike zone right now. Don’t want to get yourself in an 02 hole. You better be ready to pull the trigger on the first pitch. Misses off the plate and that’s ball one. Just missed with that back door breaking ball. If he gets a swing and miss or called strike 02 count instead it’s 1-1. Look for him to go back to that pitch later in this at bat. [Applause] That one missed. And they’ll do it again. swing and a high-fly ball out towards right field. Pahes makes the grab and that’s the inning. So they make short work of them there. We head now to the home half of inning number three. It’s the Dodgers one and the A’s nothing. Bottom of the inning. Now it’s the DH Michael Conorto hitter Michael Conorto and a pitch. That one’s upstairs. Ball one. Ball one. No strike. And that misses. And the count is two and0. Hit in the air out to center field. Leay sizes this one up. He’s got it. And there’s one down. That’s just a really nice catch on the run right there. He saved extra bases for sure. If the pitcher’s his friend, he’ll give him a second to catch his breath before he’s ready to deal the next pitch. So digging in Hung Kim first pitch doesn’t find the zone. That one laced to center in a base hit. So now back to the top of the order. Now batting short stop. Here’s Betts struck out swinging leading off the bottom of the first. Sing. You talk about a guy that has all the skills. The range is really good, but the arm just stands out and he makes all the plays right through there for a strike. And because of that big power arm, he’s able to play a little bit deeper, make throws from the outfield grass all the way across the diamond and still get a pretty good runner. That’s impressive. Stretches out and holds it in. Got to love the over the shoulder catch. I tell you what, those are really fun to make. Let’s center fielder Tommy Edmond. Here’s a switch hitter Tommy Edmond. This is a great dynamic right here. Speedy runner at first, thinking about taking second. Catcher with the pop time that leaves Jaws on the floor. This might get interesting. Boo. Out towards right center field. Butler on the move. Squeezes it. That is the inning. One left for LA, but they still lead it one- nothing. [Music] Back here at Chavez Ravine. Start of the fourth. Now the A’s designated hitter Brent Rooker. Just missed. You know, these A’s just lacking discipline at the plate in this ball game. So many of their outs have come from weak contact on pitches they’re chasing outside of the strike zone. You can’t do much of anything with those locations. And that’s been true again today. swings through that one for strike one. And as a pitcher, when the hitters are swinging at everything, you feel no need to challenge inside the zone. You just keep working the corners and expanding that strike zone and beyond, and they just keep eating right out of your hand. And there’s the ball. One strike. Yeah, that’s in for a strike. And the countdown is even two and two. Three. Now in this three ball count down in the ball game, you got to be very selective. Take your walk if they’ll give it to you. Now this is in the air down the line. Pahes sizing this one up. He’s there. He’s got it. And there’s one down. Oh, those can be pretty fun as an outfielder. Got to put it into his highest gear and go a long way to track that one down. Nothing better than that. You feel like a wide receiver playing football. The next to hit takes ball one. headed towards the corner. Pahes on the move towards the line. Can’t get there. This one lands. Fouled. The Dodgers leading by a run. Top half of inning number four. [Applause] foul ball. Still a one and two count. That’s down and in. And it’s fouled off. They’ll do it again. And a swing and a miss. And he’s registered three Ks in this one. Up next for the Jay Langers up next for the A’s. [Applause] Ball one there. Right through there for a strike. I got a ball. One strike. And now the count one and two after the swing and the miss. [Applause] Here’s the high chopper and foul ball. cut on and missed and it’s a strikeout and that is the inning and one two three go the A’s. They trail here one- nothing [Music] back here at Dodger Stadium. Here comes Freddy Freeman up to hit first base Freddy. humble guy and you know on the field off the field and he goes about his at bats in that way. Boog he’s you know just trying to stay with the plan and that plan is hit the ball to left center field drive the ball that way let it travel. Yep. You’ll one and ball one [Applause] fought off foul [Music] and that’s downstairs. Ball two. Two two in the count. And foul ball. Keeps the bat going with a foul ball. fights it off. He’ll see [Music] another. Here’s a 2-2. Spoils a two- strike pitch. And he’ll see another now. A screamer into the outfield. Drops in for a hit. Couldn’t let it down. Safe at second with a leadoff double. Everything came together perfectly for him right there. A lot of times in today’s game, right fielders are able to get to a ball that stays in like that. But he hit that one pretty well. And if he hits it just a little bit different on the barrel, it’s out of here easily. But there’s nothing wrong with the extra bases right there. And now Tioscar Hernandez went down on strikes his first time through. Swing and a highf fly ball left field. Brown gets under it, hauls it in for the one down. Now batting catcher Will Smith. Will Smith to the plate. First round pick out of Louisville in 2016. [Music] And a fast ball misses outside for a ball. And it’s one and0. [Applause] And there’s a foul ball, [Applause] swing, and a miss. It’s amazing to look up and see 88 mph on that change up. Back in the day, that was a pretty good fast ball. But with high velocities these days, that speed differential is right where it needs to be. [Music] Man at second. That misses and that’s ball two. Oh, this is a guy that can be frustrating for pitchers because he fouls off so many pitches and grinds out the at bat. I’m sure there’s sometimes where a pitch would rather just give up a first pitch single than have to waste six or seven pitches on one hitter. And they get the out on Smith. Yeah, we got that third base Max. Here’s Max. He’s already homerred here in this one. And this is a big opportunity for him to pick up his teammate right here. That one is upstairs. One. Mudy hits one in the air. Brown on his way over. Brings it in and the inning is over. So the Dodgers leave one, but they’re on top one- nothing. [Music] We go to the top of the fifth. And now the first baseman, Tyler Sodstrom. Sodrom. Sodstrom measures 6’2 in 23 years old. A former first round pick in 2020. Swinging a foul straight back. You know these athletics, they’re not going to be happy with the at bats they’ve been having so far. just one base runner to this point and it’s not exactly early anymore. They’ve got players in this lineup capable of sparking something, but it just hasn’t happened for him yet. Here’s the O2 fans another and that’s three straight strikeouts. Oh, there’s a three pitch strike out. He can do whatever he wants with the baseball right now. [Music] [Applause] Now, Zack Gellof doubled his first time up that misses the zone and that’s ball one. He’s been going after these guys consistently and as a result, he’s been able to keep his pitch count low. Throwing the ball very well right now. [Applause] Next offering is fouled back. Fights that one away. Still one and two. And there’s a ball. Base is empty. One away. And we’re in the top of the fifth. And he hits a ground ball right side, handles, throws to first. And that quickly two away. Oh, I’m impressed with this guy’s internal clock. He knew he had plenty of time to take that extra step, secure his grip on the baseball and make a strong, accurate throw. Seth Brown will hit next. Fly to center his first time. That misses the zone. And that is ball one. Two outs and it’s fouled away. That misses the zone and it’s two and one. Swing and a ball ripped right field and that one back and that one is gone. That’ll fire up the dugout and this game is tied. It’s 1-1. That was blasted. Absolutely. No doubt off the bat. Looks like this guy was looking out over the plate, but he was ready to turn on the inside. Fast ball. So direct to the pitch. Absolutely blasted out of this ballpark. So it’s all tied up thanks to the home run. Now it’s going to be Luis Urias 0 for one so far. Right through there for a strike. Ball game is still tied. they can get out of this inning with a tie game. [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Next offering is in for a strike. And this guy’s got a great feel for his breaking ball today. And down on strikes. So he picks up his sixth strike out of the ball game. But we’re all tied up thanks to this solo homer. All even at one a piece. [Music] [Applause] And welcome back to the ballpark. We head to the bottom of the fifth. And now the right fielder, Andy Papas. Severino back to work. And there’s the strike. You know, these Dodgers just haven’t produced as many competitive at bats as I’d like to see in this one. They haven’t run a single count full in this ball game. And that’s just wild to me. That stat alone shows they’re making it way too easy to get them out. This game has been so tight. Feels like the next team to score will win it. And that’s in the dirt. Two strike swing and a miss. Struck him out. He came out of his mechanics there. typically likes to shoot the ball the other way, but that time little Michael Conorto. [Applause] Michael Conforto will climb in, fly to center, his first time. He’s 0 for one upstairs. All tied up. Last half of inning number five. Off the mark there and it’s two and 0. [Applause] One down, base is empty. In today’s game, not that many fast ball counts, but hitters still in the back of their minds. They’re looking for one. Two change up call right there. Excellent pitch selection to go with. There’s a swing and a drive. back there feeling for the wall as he makes the catch. It’s a really good swing. He just didn’t get quite enough of it to beat the wind. It’s blowing in from right field right now. Hung the kill. Here’s the second base. Hung Kim. One for one with a single so far. [Music] There’s the strike. to third. Throws across the diamond and that is the inning. So no runs, no hits, no errors and no one left. We’re through five. All tied 1-1. Back here in LA. Start of the six. John Shami with Chris Singleton. And leading off, Jacob Wilson. That clips a corner. Activity in the bullpen. Tanner Scott. The left-handed reliever appears to be getting loose. Tryan the right-hander also getting loose. Just missed. The shorts stop takes a ball. [Music] And that is out of [Applause] [Music] play. Gets a piece there. We’ll do it again. Outside low and a full countdown. Got it. Picks up strike out number seven. I guarantee he’s going to check the tape on that last pitch when he gets a chance because he thought it was ball four and he wasn’t wrong. I mean, it was a close pitch. Definitely not an easy call, but especially after a long at bat. That’ll drive you crazy getting rung up like that. Back to the top of the lineup. Lawrence Butler up next for the A’s. Full for two in this one. And that one fouled [Applause] off and strike two. Wow. Good luck catching up to that one. Next one misses one and two to cow. [Music] Fouled off and they’ll do it again. fouls it off. Still one and two. This to third and that one handled. Throw pulls him off the bag and he’s saved. Now batting the designated hitter Brett Rooker. And the Dodgers will go to the bullpen. Otani will depart and it’s a tie ball game as he heads for the dugout. Back with a new arm after a quick break. Now fishing. New picture on now. Michael Grove. Number 29. Michael Grove. Yeah, we in going. Yeah, we in slow. Go ahead. Run on base. And next is the designated hitter, Brent Rooker. I know. [Applause] And that’s in there for strike one. Some hitters are just more confident they can track that first pitch out of the hand of the pitcher. They don’t care if they fall behind 01. with the go-ahead run at first and we’re the top half of the sixth and the best tied him up as it squirts away and now a man into scoring position. Boog, we’re seeing some shakiness from the defense here in this inning. First an error and now a pass ball. They really need to clean it up and start taking care of the baseball. Swing and a miss. Count one and two. One ball, two [Applause] straight. Got him. And now two gone. So two down now and here is JJ Blade [Applause] outside. Ball one. [Applause] Right through there for a strike [Applause] in the dirt. Tag save. He’s into third on the wild pitch. Even with a good secondary lead, sometimes it’s hard to see just how far that ball’s gotten away from the catcher. And if you can make it to third base, pretty much standing up. Well, that time he seemed to have a pretty good read, gets to third safely, and now he’s just 90 ft away from scoring. Next pitch is outside. [Applause] two outs and that’s off the inside edge. Full countdown now. Boo. He never moved cuz he never had time to. But that kind of velocity, you’d prefer that pitcher work away. got him looking. Huge strike out there. Sometimes he wears the emotion on the sleeve, but that’s okay as long as he’s getting results. And right there, thrilled with the punch out to get out of a jam. [Music] And we’re back. Well, we go bottom six. And here is Mookie Bets. If you don’t get ahead in the count, you can forget about having any success against him. And a pitch. Top of the zone for a called strike. [Music] They had a swing and a miss there. 02 the count. Swing and a ball hammered left field. That’s down. One hops off the wall around first and hustling for second. In safely with a leadoff double go ahead runs in scoring position. He was all over that one. that pretty much split the zone down the middle and those are the ones where you got to make them pay. A chance now to take the lead and at this point in the game that could be a deciding run. [Music] Tommy Edmond at the plate. Hard grounder into the outfield for a knock. Flying around third is Betts. the throws offline. He’s safe. They take the lead. It’s 21. Well, that may end up being an at bat we go back to later on when this game is over. Really good swing right there. He got a pitch that he knew he could handle. Allowed himself to stay back just a tad bit longer and he hit the ball on the screws. No outs. Runner at first. And first and second now with nobody out. Couple of singles back to back. wasn’t able to elevate that one, but he sure hit it hard enough to get through the infield. There’s not a whole lot of time for the defenders to react and try to make the play when it’s ripped like that. And here comes Mar as he’s ready to make a change and go to the bullpen. Luis Severino will depart and they trail as he exits, but he kept them close. A new arm will be on the mound after the break. [Music] not pitching forward. And we’ve got ourselves a pitching change. Michelle Oz, pretty tight game. So, they’re looking for quality pitches out of him right here. Got to do his best to keep the score right where it is. First and second, no outs. Hernandez now at the plate. And the first pitch misses for ball one. Now it’s one and0. [Applause] Traffic on the bases with one already in here in the bottom of the six. And another ball. Could be some action here on this next pitch. Couple runners on. Probably a challenge pitch coming. [Applause] Next one is off the plate and it’s three and0. So definitely a little wild right out of the gate. Well, it could be a little tough coming from the bullpin mound to this mound, but you’ve got to find a way to get ahead in the count quickly. He hasn’t. We’ll see how this at bat turns out. Next offering is in for a strike. ripped to third and caught. It’s never fun going back to the dugout after hitting a line drive that finds a glove, but you will get some high fives. You know, when you make great contact, you feel like you’ve done everything right. But in this game of baseball, not everything is in your control. The last thing he wants is to hit the ball on the ground. But I wouldn’t expect many pitches up in the zone. They’ll be pitching for a double play in this spot. Smith swings through it for strike one. Well, a come and get me fast ball right there. He didn’t look ready for the velocity. I think it’d be a mistake to throw him anything off speed right here. Two on, one out. Swaging a drive deep left field and that one the wall. One runs in. Here comes Freddy around third. Play at the plate. Got him. The base runner did a great job of making that a close play at the plate with an excellent slide. Made the catcher work to get out there and put down the tag. But floor was on the money and that’s what made the difference. Big time player come down. Now that he launched the solo shot back in the second inning of this one. Yeah, that was big for these guys early on. Definitely helped them get off on the right foot. [Music] Intentional walk here with two out. They set up a force at any base to end the inning. These fans don’t like to see that because they showed up to watch him swing the bat, but this team does not want to let him beat him. So, up next, Andy Popez, who’s 0 for two with a pair of strikeouts. [Applause] First pitch. Not close. Two aboard, two outs. [Applause] Next pitch is downstairs. Struggled a little bit in this one. Couple of strikeouts earlier, but doing a much better job in this at bat to get ahead and find a good hitter’s count at 2 and 0. There’s the strike instead of letting the hitter get his arms extended. Tied him up a little bit. Slightly up, slightly in. That one fouled off. Two and [Music] two. Two on, two outs. Fouls it back with two strikes. [Applause] Up and in. Full count. Three and two. Michael Conforto waiting to bat for the Dodgers. [Applause] Fouled off again and it remains three and [Applause] two and a swing and a miss. beat him with a fast ball, but two runs for him and they jump ahead. Seventh inning coming up. It’s the Dodgers three and the A’s won [Applause] now. Welcome back. We’re in the seventh. We have a new pitcher on the mate try. Well, the best relievers love the opportunity to come in and protect a tight lead late in the ball game. Some of them are just wired different. So, we’ll see what he’s got here. Shay Langel Shay Langalers. That clips the zone. It’s 0 and one. Tough for the offense so far, but you can’t get frustrated. You got to find a way to shake it off. go up there and relax. That’s the only way you’re going to be able to put runs up on the board. That’s in there. Only two and right back to the mound. Tosses to first and the lead off intercept down to open the seventh. That play won’t be trending on social media later on, but it’s still important to execute it to perfection. This game is a lot harder than it looks. Partner Soder Strike stands in now and watches strike one and one [Applause] tap foul at the plate. swing and a miss. Struck him out and there’s two away. Boy, we saw a solid effort out of their starter. The bullpen is following suit. It’s just a good day as a manager or as a pitching coach when you can hand the ball off to multiple arms and get stability from all of their performances. We must. Next up for the A’s, Zack Gellof. One for two. Clips the corner. That’s strike [Applause] one. Two down, nobody on here in the top half of inning number seven. Next offering is fouled back. [Applause] The O2. Good job to fight that one off. And down on strikes he goes. And it’s a three up, three down in. And the A’s are gone in order. And it remains a 3-1 ball game. [Applause] [Music] We’re back in a new pitcher here to start the bottom of the seventh. TJ McFarland bringing in the lefty with a left-handed hitter coming up to hit. Classic bullpen move right here. So we’ll see how it works out. The batter will be Michael Conorated. On paper to have a fairly quick inning here with two of the three hitters he’s set to face batting from the left side. Same side he throws from on the ground right side and one away in the bottom of the seventh. really nice job to get your first out of the ball game. Second base Him. And up next for Los Angeles, Hassan Kim. We talk about guys with good speed and definitely he has it, but pushing the offensive side for just a second, Chris. It’s the defensive side that I think the speed factors in the most. that clips the corner. Well, he gets to balls that get by most people at that position. Just really impressive because there’s certain times the ball comes off the bat automatically that team that hit it thinks that they’ve got a base hit or they may have extra bases and he just takes it away. And that’s outside ball one. And that one in the air center field. Leed under it. He makes the grab. Two away now. Now batting. Short stop. Mookie. Two outs. Space is empty and the batter will be the shorts stop. Mookie bets one for three. And the first pitch is drilled in the air out to center. Leay makes the play and it’s out number three. Nothing doing for the offense that time. Eighth inning coming up. It’s the Dodgers three and the A’s [Music] won. Back here at Dodger Stadium, here’s the left fielder, Seth Brown. For the Athletics, left fieldielder, a former allstar, 36 years old, and he’s one of the few players in Major League Baseball, born in Kansas. Tryan back to work. Just missed activity in the bullpen for the Dodgers. Kirby Yates looks to be getting ready for manager Dave Roberts. Visia getting cranked up as well. Swinging a foul straight back. Pretty good pitch to take a pass at a 10 count. Just not able to square it up. That’s a ball. Tried to attack with the sweeper. Next offering is in for a strike. Just off the outside edge. Strike three went back to the sweeper and got the strike out. Up next, Luis the next to hit. That’s off the inside corner. And that’s ball one. The A’s down by a pair and we’re in the top of the eighth. And another ball. No strike on the outside corner. And it’s two and one now. He’s been able to go inside as well as outside effectively working both sides of the plate in this at bat. gets a swing and a miss with the sweeper. outside loan. Ball three, making four strikeouts in a row, just cruising along. gets talked about a lot, but a good high fast ball in a two strike situation, it’s just become such a problem for hitters in more recent years. With all of the emphasis by pitchers on developing that spin rate, having a good grip on the baseball, those high fast balls, they kind of look like to the hitter that they’re rising even though they’re not, but they’re not decreasing in velocity and spin rate. So, very difficult to get the barrel on it inside. And that’s ball two. And that’s too high. Lawrence Butler waiting in the on deck circle. They can get him up. He’d represent the tying run. So critical pitch right here. And that’s ball four. And that’ll bring the tying run to the plate. Well, he tried to nibble right there and just missed his spot. Hitter didn’t offer at it. Now he has somebody to worry about over at first. And here comes the Dodgers manager to the mound. Pitching change coming. Lake Trinan is done. Two-run ball game as he heads for the dugout. And we’ll be back with a new pitcher. Now pitching. So they turn to the lefty in this spot, Tanner Scott. These are the spots relievers really make a name for themselves. Late and close. There’s not much margin for error, but at the same time, there’s a reason they’re put in these situations. [Music] Man at first, Lawrence Butler up next for the A’s. [Music] Fast ball for a [Applause] strike. Hard hit left side. Muny sends it to first. Third out, the A’s strand one. Score holds. It’s 3-1. [Music] Now the G4 back now. New pitcher on the mound as we roll into the bottom of the eighth. Grant Holman just trying to keep this one close here. And this is where a bullpin can give their players a chance to fight back into the game. And at the plate for the Dodgers, Tommy Edmond, centerfielder Tommy Edmond. There’s a strike at the knees. Going one. One’s the count. That one’s upstairs. Ball one. In the air out to center. Leed on the move. Hauls it in after a long run. One away. Now batting first baseman. Freddy Freeman will come up to hit [Applause] just off the inside edge. Action in the pen down there. Tyler Ferguson, the young right-hander up and throwing. Base is empty, one away here in the bottom half of the eighth inning. And now two and nothing. Tried to back door him with that slider right there, but just missed off the plate. Good pitch though. That one finds the zone. Strike one. You get to this part of the order. Yeah, there’s some pop there, but more likely there are some base hits, so very important to be patient. Let the pitcher walk you if he will. Popped up to the left into foul ground. Reaching for it, makes the catch. That is left fielder Tay Oscar Hernandez. Tay Oscar Hernandez will hit next. 0 for three in this one. [Music] And a breaking ball drops in for a strike. 0 and one. Two down to right through there. Got him. And a nice inning of work there as he sets him down. One, two, three. Dodgers go down quietly as the lead remains 3-1. We’re back and on the mound is the closer Kirby Yates. Well, he’s the guy they hope to turn to out of the pin to lock down wins. So, this game has gone to plan more or less. Let’s see if he can wrap it up here. Brent Rooker getting ready to hit 0 for three with two strikeouts and a fly out. [Applause] right side. Pah under it. Carous it. And there’s one down. Now batting the center fielder JJ. He’s two outs away. JJ Blade digs in now. [Applause] that catches the top part of the zone. That’s strike one. Multi-time allstar. He features a four seam fast, a splitter, and he works in a slider. That’s too low. One and one. One and one. [Applause] one down. Base is empty. And that one misses up and in. Two and one. That’s good pitch there. Billy had some run and finished. Little up and in just on the edge. And that’s one of those if you swing at it. He had a broken bat as you jog back to the dugout. [Applause] swing and a miss. Struck him out. The A’s down to their final out. You usually are going to see that inside fast ball a little longer coming in from the opposite side, but that pitch really got in on him right there. I mean, that’s a wellthrown pitch. Tough to do anything with that in terms of getting the hands through and the sweet spot of the bat to the baseball and first offering is fouled off. Two down, nobody on here in the top of the [Applause] ninth. Next offering upstairs. Way to lay off that fast ball up right there. You’re looking for something you see well that you can handle, but you also have to keep the discipline so that you’re not popping up pitches that are just a little too high. And that is downstairs and it’s two in one. [Applause] He swings and fouls one off.
