Chicago Cubs vs. Chicago White Sox MLB game highlights (May 16, 2025) I Marquee Sports Network

Hey, welcome to Cubs baseball here on Marquee Sports. We’re coming up here this afternoon. We got the White Socks and the Cubs. It’s a rivalry weekend. Game one of a threeame set. Houses divided. And just one thing, pray for us. You can figure it out for yourself as the Cubs take the field. There’s the hop from Kane Horton. the right-hander making officially his first major league start. His big league debut Saturday against the Mets. Four innings. Really just a one bad pitch into that groove path of Brett Batty, but overall five strikeouts, no walks. He was excellent. All right, the White Sox lineup that he’ll face is brought to you by four. Chase Mrop will lead things off. Matt G will hit second. He’ll do the catching. Luis Robert Jr. off to a slow start with the bat and he’ll hit the third spot. Vargas, Palasios, and Von Caro Rojos and Baldwin rounding out the lineup. It’s a White Sox team. They struggle to score. They’re last in the American League in runs per game and 28th in the majors in homers hit. So, that’s been a real problem for them. And they’re last in the majors in slugging percentages. in the air. Softly hit left center field and it’ll fall. Nitro gets enough of it. In 10 innings since the start of 2022 Suzuki over there makes the catch say it getting the opportunity to play defense these days with Ian Hap on the IIL with the oblique strain. I understand how we played, but I don’t have a problem with a swing and a [Applause] miss. It’s c it’s scored by the way a caught stealing in an E4. And there’s that sweeper. PS just a shade under 900. Highf fly ball left field back is Suzuki on it way and it’s gone up into the wind and just like that it is two nothing. That is just the 33rd home run the White Socks have hit this year. And to give you a little context, top three hitters in the Cub batting order today have combined to hit 32 home runs. I don’t know that this one needed a whole lot of help from the wind. It’s an 84 mile hour breaking pitch that settles in right over the heart of the plate. Belly button high power drive caught Nicoer. Gorgeous play. The gold glover laying out and steals a hit from Andrew Vaughn. What an athletic play by Nico. Cubs are second in the NL, third in the majors in runs per game. PCA at top the order to Tucker and Suzuki. Bush Kelly Swanson by Asteros the start corner and birdie rounding out the [Music] line. This is 25-year-old right-hander Shane Smith for the White Socks this afternoon. He was the first pick in the rule five draft in the Brewers organization back in December. served into left field. Ball in there to make the catch. Locked to the left-handed hitters. Center field. Robert there to make the catch. There’s two down. So quickly that leg and delivers. Smoked out to center. Robert is there and an easy inning. Seven pitches and the Cubs go one, two, three. Here’s a 1-1. Lift it out to center. PCA shading his eyes. Oh, and it falls. He was having trouble with it right from the [Applause] goal. That’s unfortunate. Roll the base hit. PCA loses it in the sun. This situ I don’t know. At some point if you can’t find it, maybe yield and let Suzuki seem to be tracking it pretty well. That’s That’s tough play [Applause] though. 22 on my drive. Two on, one out. Horton delivers to the right side. Corner to second for one. And are they going to say interference? They are. And both guys are out. That’s probably going to bring a little venable out of the White Socks dugout to have a chat. Jeremy Ray Hack Ray Hack the second base umpire been in the middle of it here today. They weren’t going to turn that anyway. Right field, Michael Bush. Michael’s been cold last 16 coming in at just 170. Now two and two towards left center field. Sing with a touchdown and bang up against the wall. And then hands go up and the runners will stop. Wind blowing out. You’re preventing the big inning. You’re playing to prevent the big inning. So you would keep your back. Coming home safe at the plate. Bush able to get his hand in. They play the infield in and it doesn’t work. [Music] Michael Bush coming down the line. As soon as he sees that ball on the ground, off he goes. So, he’s moving on contact. The evasive slide apparently gets the back corner of the plate. Pisters choice RBI. Good athletic drive by Bush. So the first RBI for Moyes [Music] Spysteros on the ground is short and only this one. Tag at the plate and safe as Dice dropped the ball. [Music] fielders choicing the heck out of them here in the second inning. So, in a sense, the infield in strategy has paid off twice and that they’ve got ground balls where they had a chance to record an out at the plate. First time it was a great slide. This time, Dice had them dead to right, didn’t catch the baseball, didn’t hang on. Fielder’s choice E2 null RBI 32 that is hammered down the line. If it’s fair, it’s trouble. That one is gone. Picked for Armstrong. Threerun blast and just like that Cubs leaded. PCA has a dozen [Applause] homers. raise the roof. That’s just the second home run that Shane Smith has allowed this year. It’s the 12th one PCA has hit. And we talked about PCA a lot with his speed. You might think, well, this is a guy who should hit the ball on the ground and utilize that speed. Uh-uh. There’s plenty of slug in there. Another long ball. He is a special special player. Line drive out towards right center field. [Applause] That’s Tucker towards second. He’s thinking about third. Tucker is in. It’s a triple. [Applause] This one drilled out towards left center field. The parade continues. In to score is Tucker. Suzuki cruises into second and the Cubs have taken a two nothing deficit and turned it into a 6-2 lead. Cubs offense has cooled off here in recent days, but this is what we’ve seen from most of the season. One good at bat after another. Crooked numbers, big numbers. The longest time they were averaging better than six runs per game. It’s a six spot they’ve thrown up here in the second inning. And so that’s at least part of the reason why some guys will not get on the field. He crawls from back turning blocking and that one is gone. Vargas with the home run and that is his second of the day and it’s 6-3. A line drive to center field after his sluggish start. He had apparently made some kind of a mechanical adjustment and uh I would say it’s paying [Applause] off since 84. The Cubs and Ryan Samberg and PCA with another knock. Bigger things to deal with. Got PCA up there and a hitter’s count and a man on third in the infield end. Here’s a 200 popped up round down the right side and falls in the score is Nico. And Pete’s looking around like, “Wait, what just happened?” That’s what happened. The sky happened. The wind happened. Wriggley happened. Third hit of the day for PCA. Second bloop second one we’ve seen drop in in this game where fielder outfielder just couldn’t find the baseball. Insurance runs are brought to you by Gallagher helping you face your future with confidence. No confidence there to track that popup. My anxiety going to the score even if he catches it. Yeah. Tag up and come [Applause] home in the air and falling and falls for a hit and PCA makes his way to third. Tucker with a single. The thriller error. Mhm. Drive center field. Robert coming on. Makes the catch hanging from third. Keep Armstrong and he’s in. Sacrifice by Sea Suzuki. It’s a three. Three and two line drive. Oh boy, what a play at third. He stole a hit and extra bases and at least one fly ball right field. Tucker dealing with the sun and the wind and who caught it. Kuck able to haul it in. It’s been that kind of day in the outfield in ball four by a [Applause] Steros. Fair ball down the third baseline. It kicks off the sidewall and Bsteros will stop at third. Nico’s got himself a double. Salvi said enjoy it. It goes by really fast in the air center field. That’ll fall for a hit and PCA has knocked in two more. It’s a four hit day for Pete Co Armstrong and it is all comes here at Wrigley version of mountain ball though as a parting gift. There’s that greens are a little faster in the warmer weather. Nico dancing dancing. Oh, and he sticks the landing that rifled into the left field bangs up against the underside of the basket and Seya with a bullet at 112 m [Applause] anph inside squirts away from Got him. It did. Yeah, you could hear it, right? Was an easy delay. And then Yeah, they had to play at second base. They [Applause] did. They had a shot. Here we go again. Right field. Palasios able to pull it down. Sea will tag and score. Bush will tag and move up the 90 ft. It’s a sacrifice fly the 22 line drive. Base hit right center field mo by a steros first major league knock and it produces a run. That’s what I’m talking about right there. Yeah, [Applause] mom. That is awesome. A liner to right center and it’s 1232 chopped to short. There’s one and safe at first. Nico down the line and the run comes in to score. Here today the Cubs put a six spot up in the second inning to the right side. They get one there to first two and that’s the ball game. Are they going to look at [Applause] it? No, they’re not. Ball game. Cubs win. They’re going to sing is what they’re going to do. [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] Go. What do you say? [Applause]

  1. So happy to see Moises doing so well his first few games, and I'll never get enough of the camera cutting to his family cheering him on. ❤❤❤❤

  2. I have a few friends that became Cubs fans after the WS. For me, my dad was a HUGE Cubs fan and I was a daddy's girl. This means every time a Cub game was on I was sitting on his lap watching it along with him. I grew up in IL about 2 hours from Chicago. Went to a dozen games with my dad. Sadly he was not alive when they won the WS but I know he was in Heaven rooting for his beloved team. By the way I am 59 lol

  3. Were the Sox really considering a challenge on that last play? You are down 13-3 with two outs in the 9th, really?? lol

  4. My favorite play of the game: With PCA on third, Swanson hit a fly ball to short center. Luis Robert made the catch, cocked his arm to throw home, saw Pete tagging up at third, and just flipped the ball to the second baseman. 😄

  5. For me, it's an exciting time to be a White Sox fan. We've taken 3 out the last 4 series and a lot of prospects are going to get the experience they need this year.
