don’t have a whole ton of history against him. Yeah, his time with the Phillies, he was very inconsistent. He would he would have good games against the Nationals or he get knocked out early. He’s a much more consistent pitcher. He’s able to attack the strike zone. Doesn’t walk a lot of guys. When he went to the Tampa Bay Rays, they kind of altered his pitch mix a little bit. He’s always relied on a real good turbo sinker, but they have him throwing his cutter and his curve ball more. So, instead of just relying only on the sinker, he can move the ball in both directions with a very good curveball and the cutter and the sinker. So, he’s a tough matchup if he’s commanding both sides of the plate. It was really surprising after he went 16 and8 with a 350 RA in 31 starts in 2023 that the Rays were looking to move him last year, but that’s always about free agency and contract. Well, and he had signed a three-year $40 million deal with Tampa, who was right in the middle of that contract. They were not in contention last year and they traded him for prospects. So, that’s your pitching match up here this afternoon. Right-handers on the hill, Zach Epin for the Orioles, Michael Seroka for the Nationals. The righties are five out of 18 278 against Soka who rocks kicks and delivers a swing in a fast ball popped up foul back and out of play to the left by Holidays and in four straight games. Seven for his last 19 includes a double and a ninth inning three-run homer here yesterday. 269 overall, five homers, 16 knocked in. Fast ball from Sokoka runs outside and high at 94 miles an hour. The count is two and one. Nathaniel Lo playing first base is toward the line. Luis Garcia the second baseman toward the hole. Soka delivers. Swing and a miss and a breaking ball. Count even two and two. The short stop CJ Abrams weld toward the middle and the third baseman Jose Tana is playing what looks like a shortstop position. the outfield. James Wood in left right now toward the line. Dylan Cruz playing center field. Few steps to left center. Right fielder Alex Call is off the line. Now the pitch breaking ball hit the ground left side. Tain to his left fields. He whirls and fires a strike to first and Low reaches out and hauls it in. There’s one away as Tana went to his left field of the ball and spun around. CJ Abrams had to get out of his way. He was so close to it. Good to see that Jose though is a little more sure-handed. He had a couple of games there where he was kind of having a trouble getting the ball on the glove after playing second base. Moving back to third, but that was a good play to get out number one. And the batter is Ryan Mount Castle, the designated hitter. Best ball hit on the ground that way. Tain to his left, knocks it down, but couldn’t get it in the glove. The ball rolls underneath him, but Mount Castle will be aboard. Almost a great play if he could have speared that in the glove and then gotten up to make a throw, but we’ll never know. was off the very tip of his glove. And so Mount Castle has himself an infield hit. Did not play yesterday after starting at first base Friday. And the batter is Gunnar Henderson. Henderson with a hit in his fourth at bat yesterday. Went one for five. He’s one for his last 17. Left hand hitting shortstop. Looks at a curve ball. Bends in for strike. hitting .257 in 37 games, eight doubles, two triples, six homers, 12 runs batted in the injured list coming out of spring training with a right intercostal strain. So could not start the season. Pinch is in there all strength and the count is 0 and two. Miss a ton of time. He was back by the middle of April. Outfield again a bit the other way. Infield playing to pull. The count is 0 and two. Edley Rutman. Switch it catcher on deck. Here’s the set now by Soka. The pause the kick and the pitch. Swing and a miss. Blew it by him with an elevated fourseam fast ball. So Henderson down swinging, strikes out for the 47th time this year and the eighth time this series. They’re catching Henderson in a bit of a funk. And they’ve pitched him well. They pitched him down, they pitched him in, they pitched him up. Struck out four times in five at bats Friday. Struck out three times yesterday and now once today. Here’s from the left side. The switch iterating 215. Looks the first pitch over. Fast ball in for a strike of the belt. Six doubles, a triple, four homers, all four batting left-handed. He’s driven an 11. He has struggled mightily. Orioles as a team hitting 231. Sroa delivers, swinging a highf fly ball left center field. James Wood drifting over and he makes the catch for the out to retire the side. Ice sky today, some clouds, but a bright sunny day. and no runs, one hit and a man left a board. Luis Garcia Jr. will stand in for the Nationals. Two for five yesterday. They hit the first to drive at two, a double to drive another in the second inning. Into the windup is Zack Efflin. The rightander’s pitch runs inside. Bowl one. Garcia has been around long enough to accumulate some at bats against Elyn. He is five for 10 against him with a double and two runs batted in. Right-hander delivers. Swing and a fly ball to deep right field. Back goes Kirsty the right fielder. He’s at the big wall looking up and there it goes. It is gone. Goodbye to the standing room about two rows deep of people in straightaway right field. Bang zoom goes Luis Garcia Jr. with his fourth home run of the year. The Nationals have led off each of the first two innings of this game with a home run. And it’s the Nationals two and the Orioles nothing. This is much different than the Abrams home run which is a line drive bullet. This was just a change up down and kind of a high-fly ball. Seemed to be routine. That went up into the jetream. Got a big boost. Normal day that’s not a home run, but this is the right day to hit that ball. Fourth of the year for Garcia. His 17th run batted in and Josh Bell stands in. Fast ball over the inside corner. Called strike to Bell. He’s averaging 153 in 39 games. A double a triple. Five homers, 14 knocked in. And now he has a hit in each of his last six games. Looks the next pitch over. Cutter over the inside corner. Called strike. And Elyn has gotten ahead of Bell 0 and two. Gosh, three for 10 against Efflin, including a home run and three RBI’s outfield straight away for Bell in all three fields. Effin kicks, delivers, breaking ball too low. One ball and two strikes. Nationals started the day ninth in the National League, 18th in the major leagues in home runs at 45, now up to 47. He’s into the wind to the pitch. breaking ball low inside. On the other side of the coin, two home runs given up by Elyn. The Orioles have now surrendered 69 the most in the major leagues. Passing the Blue Jays at the moment who’ve given up 68. Fast ball chopped on the ground right side. Holiday was right. The second baseman has it. I think an offbalance throw and plenty of time to get Bell. There’s one away here in the top of inning number two. Alex Call hitting seventh in the order. Will come to the plate now. First ever golf day swings into Nats Park this Wednesday. Game two of the series between the Nats and the Braves. First pitch at 645. Snag a Nat branded head cover and divot tool with your special ticket. Grab yours now at nats.com/sp specialcials. Alex Call looks at a fast ball too low. Ball one. He’s just one for his last 22 right now. His average at 281. 25 hits, five doubles, a triple, no homers and 14 knocked in. He has drawn 16 walks, swings and fouls one straight back into the screen. So count of one ball and one strike. He was getting on base with such regularity that even with his one for 22 has a 385 on base percentage. Efflin picks delivers swing and a ball foul came up and hit ball in the leg and that right hand enters batters box and the count just one ball and two strikes. Basement Jose Tan coming out on deck outfield for Cole is swung a bit toward right. By far the largest crowd of this threeame series. to fill the upper deck here. This three- deck stadium. Efflin delivers. Breaking ball, foul ball deflects back off of the home plate umpire. That that little league parade on the field was endless. What a what a great crowd. And we saw, you know, literally thousands lined up before the park even opened today. pitch swung on and fouled away to the right side. Out of play our bus coming over from the hotel needed to navigate through the stream of people with the help of security. We needed the escort. Yeah, it was like having to part the Red Sea to get through. Now the wind of the one two inside and it hit him. Alex Cole is hit by the pitch. That is the second time he has hit this year. And for Efflin, the second batter he has hit, they’ve both been right-handed. Yes, indeed, it hit him. I don’t know if we can get through a game without saying it hit him. Well, usually it’s the Nationals pitchers who are doing that, but Nationals had a hit batter yesterday and actually they’ve been hit all three games in the series. That’s what I’m saying. The Orioles have now hit 16 batters for the year. They’re well behind the Nationals who have plunked 32. Rucker goes pitch swung on. Fouled straight back into the left. Good to play by a man of the first row. The second level was an old fashioned hit and run. Tana was in protect mode on a pitch up and out trying to shoot the ball to the open left side. The shorts stop. Henderson covering. Alex called one steal in one try. Montana two for five in the series and a sack fly yesterday to drive in a run of the first inning. Couple of walks on Friday night. Looks to pitch over and a cutter missed outside. One ball and one strike. Bright sunshine and a brisk brisk breeze. If you get it high enough in the air to right field, the fly ball will have an escort. Here’s the set turn and a throw to first and Cole hits the dirt back in. Abrams didn’t need the escort. Garcia got the escort. Little little push. A ball and a strike on Tana with that open stance from the left side. Now the pitch breaking ball kind of started to move after it but able to keep the bat back. No swing on the check with the third base umpire Lance Barrett. It’s two and one. And he we described Tana’s stance as open D, but it’s it’s only his feet because it’s open and then that right foot is so far back really close to the left leg. The feet aren’t very far apart and his upper body is not open to the pitchers. Almost closed. Runner goes swinging a tapper up the third base line. Charging to get it. Third baseman Rivera with a good play, but the throw is not in time. Boy, he might have been better served to let that go foul. He got to it right at the line, backhanded it, then made the offbalance throw across his body and Tana beat the play at first. So, the Nationals end up with an infield hit to third and have runners on first and second with one out, a run home. It’s a hard to tell if the ball would have gone foul, but we’ll never know because Rivera aggressively came in and fielded it. Still couldn’t throw the runner out, the batter out. So, as you say, might have been better served to to play it conservatively, see if it would go foul. But now, Dylan Cruz will stand in. Cruz looking for his first hit of the series. For three yesterday and hit by a pitch, both for two, two walks Friday. The pitch swung on, drill to the air to deep left center field. This is way back. This one is going, going, reaching up, jumping is Mullins. He cannot get it. It is gone. Goodbye. Into the Orioles bullpen. Bang. Zoom goes Dylan Cruz with a threerun home run to left center field. His sixth of the year. Tops amongst National League rookies. RBI’s 12, 13, and 14. And it is a crooked number on the board for the Nationals here in the second inning with a solo homer, a threerun homer. Four runs across. It’s the Nationals five and the Orioles nothing. Well, under normal circumstances, that’s going to be an easy home run, but the wind kind of knocked it, pushed it back toward the fence, and Mullins almost robbed it. Now, the pitch to CJ Abrams swung on and fouled straight back behind the plate. It wasn’t evident right away whether Mullins did catch it, but seeing the Nationals relievers jumping up and down in their bullpen gave you the idea he didn’t quite get it. He’s so good at making those catches, you think that he could. Here’s Abrams driving one to deep left center field. This is way back at the wall is Lauriano leaping. He can’t get it. It is good. CJ Abrams who led off the game with a home run on the first pitch. Fouled the pitch away and his second at bat and then homers on the second pitch to left center field. His second of the game, his eighth of the year. And the Boobirds are out here at Camden Yards in the second inning. Five runs home for the Nationals with their third home run of the inning. It’s the National 6 and the Orioles nothing. Unbelievable. CJ Abrams with his second career two homer game. The first September 11th, 2023 in Pittsburgh. And this one again, maybe the wind not really helping it. But now with that wall brought in from last year, Lauriano tried to jump, but he jumped up into the fence right at the 363 mark. So he didn’t get his glove all that high over the wall. The wall interrupted his jumping attempt. Right now there’s a visit to the mound by the pitching coach of the Orioles, Drew French. Slow down in action with a trip to the mound is brought to you by Eizerve. Right now, let’s pause 10 seconds for station identification on the Nationals Baseball Network, WJFK FM, and HD1 Manesses and WPGC, HD2 Morningside, Sport Radio 1067, a fan Odyssey sports station. Charlie’s Dave Jaggler with you for the Nissan Broadcast booth in Baltimore. James Wood stands in with one out and nobody on now here in the second inning. Five runs home. A 6 nothing Nationals lead. Here’s Efflin delivering fast ball outside ball one. So Zack Evelyn who’d given up two home runs coming in in 23 innings has given up four home runs. Three in this second inning after Abrams led off the game with a home run. Breaking ball to Wood hit in the air shallow left. Coming hard as Lauriano and he can’t get there. kind of stumbled whether he was going to go into a slide and ends up feeling the ball on one hop and James Wood aboard with a popfly single to left and the hits keep coming for the Nationals. Looked to be a catchable ball. Maybe Lauriano fooled on the swing with him having to run back on consecutive hitters. His late break in allows Wood to reach on a hit. Incidentally, only the third time in Efflin’s career he’s allowed four homers in a game. Most recently 2021. Wow. Wow. He’s definitely a a sinker ball pitcher. The batter’s Nathaniel Low. Looks the first pitch over. Outside ball one. He struck out swinging, completing a seven pitch at bat in the first inning. The eighth man to bat the Nationals here in the second inning. And still only one out. Hitting right back into the heart of the arter for the second time in two innings. He delivers the pitch. spelled it left center field. Mullins moving over. Lauriano over. Mullins calling and Mullins makes the catch. James Wood two/3 of the way to second. Retreats to first base. That is out number two. Now the cleanup man, Kar Ruiz will be the ninth man to bat in the inning. But the heart of the lineup presented by the American College of Cardiology transforming cardiovascular care and improving heart health for all. Visit them at acccc.org. O RG Rise grounded to the first baseman O’Harn ending the top of the first inning. Effin delivers the pitch low and outside. Ball one to Ruiz. Well, we barely had time to see anything about Cruz hitting a three-run homer. Boy, that had to feel good for him. He has really struggled. He had just six hits in his previous 61 at bats. And a throw to first on the runner back. And again, that there’s an umbrella just got blown over the Orioles bullpen. The wind it it hurt Cruz ball and that ball was going to be well out of here and almost robbed it. Same thing on the Abrams ball. Cruz ball might have been up in the Nationals bullpen. Swinging a grounder foul off the screen in front of the Orioles dug out of the first base side. One and one on Ruiz. The wind blowing toward right, gusting to 29 mph. Yeah, you can watch the flight of it. It started pushing it more toward straightaway center and it was definitely knocking it down. Breaking ball. That one is low. Two balls at a strike. And unlike Lauriano who jumped into the wall on the the Abrams homer, Mullins got high. His glove was well over the wall. He was set up. He just missed it. He is outstanding in center field. Taking a lot of home runs away in this park. Efflin kicks, delivers. Woods running, pitches outside, throw by Rutman. One hop into center field. Wood a feet first slide. Still seated. Will stay right there as Mullins was on it quickly. So the count three and one on Ruiz. The stolen base for Wood is his seventh of the year in nine tries and a stolen base in yesterday’s game. So two in the series. Six runs and six hits for the Nationals. They back with two out and wood at second in the top of the second. What a series it’s been now for the Nationals these last two days early on. Now the pitch swinging a line drive up base hit to left center field. Wood being waved around third by Ricky Gutierrez. He’ll score without a play as Lauriano sends the ball into second base. Kar Ruiz singles to left center on a 3-1 pitch to drive in his 17th run of the year. And not only the hits keep coming for the Nationals. The runs keep coming here in the top of the second inning. Six runs across. It’s now the Nationals seven and the Orioles nothing. Well, the Orioles might be getting their bullpen going. Yesterday they used CNO Perez and Charlie Morton as long relievers and they had to make a roster move. Cade Straoud come on down. Although they are getting up a lefty which would be Aken I believe. Here’s the pitch on the way to Garcia. Big swing and a miss by Louie on a first pitch curve ball. And Aken’s usually more of a high leverage reliever than a a long guy. It is Aken. Hey, you got to go with who’s who’s available now. They do not have an off day tomorrow. They go to Milwaukee. Here’s the set now. And the pitch swing and a foul tip back into the glove of Roman. Well, maybe the Brewers will be happy to see the Orioles. They’re playing the Twins again today and no one wants to see the Twins. The Twins haven’t lost in two weeks. Was it 13 straight now? Unbelievable. Another win for them yesterday. Now the pitch. Breaking ball low. Runner going. The throw on down the tag by Henderson and Ruiz is out. He tried a delayed steal. He did. Kar is thrown out. Two to six by Rushman to Henderson. And the inning comes to a close. But the Nationals score six runs in the top of inning number two on a total of six hits. With that caught stealing, nobody’s left. We go to the bottom of the second. Washington seventh, Baltimore nothing on the Nationals Baseball Network. Great moments in baseball have been broadcast on the radio since 1921. Smith courts went into right down the line. Bottom of the second inning and Michael Seroka like Jake Urban yesterday with a big lead to work with. Urban by the time he went to the mount of bottom of the second had a seven nothing lead. It was six runs in the first, one in the second. Today one in the first and six in the second for the Nationals and Sro has a seven nothing lead to work with as Ryan O’Harn will stand in. First baseman inning 294. Four doubles, seven homers, 14 runs batted in. A left-handed hitter delivers. First pitch fast balls popped up. Foul will make it into the upper deck on the third base side. No balls and a strike. Ron Lauriano will follow. And then Cedric Mullins 56 and seven in the Orioles batting swinging a hard hit line drive. One up. Luis Garcia Jr. could not make the play off his glove out into right center field for a base hit. And Alex Cole slipped but O’Harnet stopped. Call is okay as he gets up and gets the ball in off the glove of Garcia to his right. A base hit into right center for O’Harn. We bring up Raone Laurianos. Had a really good series. Six hits and eight times up in the two games. He had four hits, a double, three singles, and and hit by a pitch Friday. Pitch outside for a ball. Yesterday, an RBI double and then a single to run scored in his last two at bats, hitting .250. Seven doubles, five homers, 10 runs batted in. Sroa from the stretch. Right-hander deals. Pitches in there. A cold strike. who went back between innings because with Cole hit by a pitch, Dave, it just seems like we’ve been going game after game after game with at least one player on either side getting hit by a pitch. And it really is amazing. Look back at the numbers for the Nets over the last 20 21 games. The pitch swing and a foul by Lauriano on the grass behind the plate. One and two. Yeah. 19 of the Nationals last 21 games there’s been a hit by pitch for one team or the other and usually more than one. Many times more than one. Now, if you think about it and you watch a lot of baseball, you could go games where nobody gets hit, right? Several games. I mean, this incredible numbers and the pitch. Sweet. A ground ball to short right at Abrams. Shovel it to Garcia. Gets rid of it to first. Not in time. Moraniano hustled and beat the play. Looked like a chance for two. 6’4 on the force at second erasing O’Harn and Cedric Mullins will come up. Yeah, really Abrams is kind of patting his chest saying my fault. He didn’t really come at that ball. He kind of laid back on it and then gave just a kind of a half underhanded toss that didn’t have a lot on it. That’s a a hustle play by Lauraniano, but that should have been a double play. I think Abs is recognizing of that that you need a little more urgency. Jose Tannis weighing on the grass to the right of the cutout. The third baseman against Cedric Mullins. and his speed. Holland’s a big swing at a first pitch fast ball. Swings through it. Strike one. 94 miles an hour. He’s three for his last 15 coming in. Hitting just 220 for the year after getting off to a really good start. Seven doubles, eight homers, 25 knocked in. Pitch on the way low to the inside as Ruiz backhanded it and the count, one ball and one strike. He’s the Orioles club leader in home runs and runs batted in with eight and 25. Sroka ready. Abrams well toward the middle. Here’s Pitch breaking ball. He lays off. It’s inside and low. Two and one. A big story out of Philadelphia today. I mean, this is the big story of the day in Major League Baseball. It’s been the Orioles for the last 24 hours. But now the Phillies go to the front page. More in a moment as Sro is ready. The pitch, swing, and a miss. And the count two and two. Left-handed reliever Jose Alvarado suspended 80 games. Val for violating Major League Baseball’s drug policy for performance-enhancing substances. 80game suspension beginning today. Is ineligible for the postseason. Ground ball to first. Knocked down by Low. Picks it up. Steps on first. Throw to second. Abrams tag. Too late. Runner safe at second. They get the out at first as Bins is retired and Lauriano safe at second with two out. Nationals looking to see if they want to challenge the safe call at second. Low had an initial bobble. They will not challenge. If he feels that cleanly, I think they get the double play. Well, if he tagged him at second, Nats aren’t going to challenge it. It looked like if he got the glove on him, he would have been out. But apparently Abrams sweeping didn’t make contact. Yeah. Low, you know, you’re up by seven. You’re happy to get it out. But if Lo fields it cleanly without just the initial bobble, it’s a double play. So that’s two times this inning. They could have had a double play. So here now is H Kirstad, the right fielder. So Roett’s kicks, delivers, pitch, swung on, and popped up. Foul. Third base side out of play. Here hitting 219 in 39 games. Three doubles, four homers, and 14 knocked in. Three for his last 15 over the last seven games. One of the hits a home run. Her baseman Emanuel Rivera coming out on deck. Soketti kicks, delivers, swing, and a dribbler foul deflected off the glove of Ruiz. And a count of 0 and two. Orio’s new third base coach is Buck Britain, brother of former Orioles reliever Zack Britain. Already on the coaching staff, he takes over at third with Tony Manelino moving to the dugout as the acting manager. Anthony Sanders on the lines at first. Sroa kicks, delivers, swing, and a foul ball left side out of play. Stead was jammed with the fast ball at 95 miles an hour. National 7, Orioles nothing. We’re in the bottom of the second inning. It’s kind of like they they battered around, but they only had nine finished plate appearances because Garcia’s appearance carried over the 01. SW fouled out of play down the left field side. Louisie got the second inning started with a windb blown home run over the right field wall. His fourth of the year, second of the Nationals four home runs in the first two innings against Zack Efflin. Two to right and two to left center. The tall right-hander winds deals breaking ball just low. Good take by Garcia. He had a funny line when the reporters approached him after yesterday’s game. He was two for five. A double three RBI’s. First start as a new dad with his son Asherborn. Here’s the pitch. Breaking ball chopped high in the air. This could be a tough play. Effin grabs it. Throws to first and just got him. That was a good play by Effin for him watching helplessly that ball in the air on a a chopper that triggered it quickly when it came down gets Garcia on a close play. Said I’m going to have games like that and have to have another kid. I remember I think it was Ian Desmond. You know, he was the first ever big league player to go on the paternity list. He hit a home run just after he came back and he said, “I had had the new dad strength.” Here’s Josh Bell. He launches one to right center field toward the gap. Long chase for Mullins and for the right fielder and it’s Kerstad cutting in front making a nice running catch. That ball in the alley perhaps either could have had it but Kerstad cut in front. Effin a veteran pitcher. you give up a big number early. He’s in the mode now of just trying to eat up as many innings as possible, knowing that yesterday the Orio starter got knocked out of the first inning. Perhaps with the designating of Kyle Gibson, Charlie Morton’s going to go back into the rotation. Orioles desperately need Efflin to at least put up a few more innings. Here’s the O2 delivery to call. low and away. One ball, two strikes. Getting Keegan Aken up in the second inning was not something that Tony Manscelino wanted to do. Remember, he can Aken pitched the eighth inning, but the Orioles leading by a run in the first game. A one-two off the outside, a cutter at 89, two and two. Aken allowed the James Wood home run that was tagged with his first blown save. Two outs, base is empty. Here’s the wind of the pitch. Paul takes the ball just outside. So, this is more typical of some early season Alex call at bats from 0 and2 to 3 and two. His average has been falling in the on base percentage just one for his last 22. And the Baltimore order, Emanuel Rivera, the third baseman, starts it off. He’s hitting 324 since coming up from TripleA Norfol. The wind and here it is. A fast ball upstairs. Ball one. We’ve seen Rivera last few seasons with Arizona with Miami. Generally hits left-handed pitching well. The 10 leans back from a high breaking ball. 2 and 0. But Ramona Reus just back from the injured list. Struggled in the first two games. Rivera gets a start in the finale. Soka’s pitch. Swing and a miss. Had a belt high heater. Two and one. Now the step to kick and the 2-1. Swinging a miss again at a 95 mph heater to the outside. Two-2 Sro is in the same position as Jake Irvin yesterday. Big lead to work with. Doesn’t have to be too fine with his pitches here. Next one. Swinging a popup out of play to the right. This is when you just need to pound the strike. So, play good defense. Stay away from the walks. Make them hit their way back into the game. The open team that’s scuffling that uh maybe they’re packed for Milwaukee. The two-2 swinging. A foul tip held by Ruiz. That one slipped out of his hand. Badly missed to the outside. Grabbed by Ruiz. A change up. One and one. Holiday is five for 11 in the series. Hit a home run in the ninth inning yesterday. Here’s the pitch. Another change up. Not close. Up and away. Jackson Holiday just 21. And list is long of young players who come to the big leagues and have some struggles. And Holiday struggled mightily last year. Here’s the pitch. Fast carved foul into the netting over the third base dugout, but he seems to have figured it out. He obviously grew up around the game with his father, Matt, the Allstar. And we’ll see what becomes of the younger brother Ethan, who potentially is in potention to be the National’s number one pick in July. The wind up in the 2-2 swing a ground ball right side toward the hole that’s going to sneak its way through for a base hit low the closest to it ranging to his right. Jackson Holiday with a seeing eye ground ball single. So he’s had a decent last few games for him. He’s now eight for his last 21 in five straight. He looks much different than last year though where he really struggled. Here’s Ryan Mount Castle who’s got a 12game hitting streak working with that infield hit off the glove of the third baseman Tana in the first. That’s the 70 lead. Soka holds deals and poured right in there. A fast ball at 93. Mount Castle was a little shaken up. foul the ball off his foot and was hurting yesterday. Getting a DH day today. Here’s the next delivery. Waving swinging a miss at the breaking ball. 0 and2. They said he was available yesterday, but never was used. It’s only the second time this year he’s been in the lineup as the DH. Ruiz sets an outside target. Here’s the O2 in there. Strike three. Throw to first. Holiday back in standing. So Mount Castle is called out on strikes. And Soka now with four Ks and the second out of the inning. Sometimes you’re worried the catcher Ruiz pops up out of the crouch for the snap throw to first. You could block the view of the home plate umpire, but that pitch was comfortably in the zone. Kids love the walk up music of Gunnar Henderson. He struck out his first time up. Sroa deals change up misses inside. His change up’s been a little weward in this inning, but else has been good. Michael snap back at the return throw. Henderson one for 11 in the series with eight strikeouts. Set the 10. Sliced foul. Hit it off the handle. That one down the left field line over the netting. A ball and a strike. Mets would like to see Henderson get on the plane to Milwaukee and then get going. Figure he’s going to be struggling for long. He was a little slow to start this year with the IIL stay. Scuffled early, then he got it going. What a rough home stand for him. Turner throw to first. Henderson dives back. Close play. No hitter alert in Arlington, Texas. Jack Lighter pitching with two outs of the sixth inning. Not allowed a hit. Two walks so far. He’s at 58 pitches. It’s pretty low total. Texas three nothing lead over Houston. The set the 1-1high fast ball for a strike. One and two. Well, Raphael De suddenly blistering hot. Just hit a grand slam for the Red Sox off of Spencer Schwelenbach. That’s after his first ever walk-off home run last night against Pierce Johnson. Hard to believe that was his first ever walk-off. Red Sox lead the Braves 4-3. Runner goes, pitches, check swing, and strike three, says the umpire at third, Lance Barrett. Henderson staring down there in disbelief. Called out on the check swing. He is motioning down there. Now turns away and walks away. And that kind of series for Gunner. Henderson now he looking back and kind of waving at the umpire. He’s got to be careful. So, the inning over. Seroka strikes out three, gives up one hit after three. 7 nothing nationals. Introducing baseball’s all new national pregame show. MLB tonight live at 5. Nationals try for their first sweep of the year and they have posted a touchdown lead early. 7 nothing as Jose Tana leads off the top of the fourth. Zack Efflin steps, kicks, delivers. That’s a little high. Ball one. Jose had a little tapper up the third baseline for an infield hit. Eflin’s next one is lying to the right center field gap. It’s down for a hit. Kirstad can’t cut it off. He took a bad angle. This one rolls all the way to the fence. Tana rounding second. He’s going to slam on the brakes. He was thinking about three, but Ricky Gutierrez gave him the stop sign. And so Tana will settle for a hustle double. That one just kept rolling and rolling. His second double. Kirstad cut over and then really kind of misplayed that one. and to angle back. Dana was thinking about three but settles for the leadoff double. Good start to the inning and brings in Dylan Cruz. We hit home run number six. A three-run smash in the second inning. Here’s the delivery. Breaking ball. A curve for a strike at 79. Tell you what, Tana did that exactly right. go hard around second. Got his eyes on the third base coach. Did exactly what he said he should do. Stay right there. Effin to the belt. Checker the runner. The 01 dribbler third base side. This is going to be a tough play. Effin slides, picks it up, and has to hold on to it. That was a really acrobatic effort there by Efflin. Really nice feet first popup slide, but to no avail because it’s an infield hit for Cruz with Tana taking third base. So Dylan is two for two. Tapper off the end of the bat. Yeah, real nice by Elyn, but he needed a really slow man to be running, make a play after that. I mean, that was like a Trey Turner smooth popup slide. I That was very athletic, but he was wise to just grab the ball and stop. Here’s CJ Abrams. Two home runs already. He’s batting for a third time here in the fourth inning. Here’s the set. Long hold to pitch in there. Belt high cutter. Abrams. You think he’s thinking about a third home run today? I am. So I know he is. He’s had one other two homer game. That was two years back in Pittsburgh. Now the pitch. It’s outside. Fast ball. You might not see a good pitch to hit though. his 11th career leadoff home run on the first pitch of the game. It’s the fifth time in his 11 home runs he’s hit the first pitch of the game for a homer. Top or bottom of first inning. Now the set turning to throw to first. Cruz back to the bag. Dylan the Nationals top stolen baseman with 11 although he has been caught stealing and picked off in this series. Runners first and third, no outs. Orioles infield back to try to get a double play. Here’s the pitch. Swing a slow ground ball to the first baseman. Tana holds it third. Now the first baseman O’Harn will step into the line and tag Abrams out. So Cruz moves into scoring position at second. The Orioles get the three unassisted ground out for the first out. Then with no outs, Tana played it conservatively and it brings in James Wood to the plate. Wood had his first intentional walk of the year and the Nationals first intentional walk period yesterday in the ninth inning. Nathaniel Low then followed with a two-run double. They have first base open, but they’re going to pitch to Wood and bring the infield in. James one for two with a single. Outside target Rutman. He’s way outside. The pitch is way outside. If this if they’re going to do that four times, why not just put them on? Rutman was set up way outside. That pitch was in the other batters box. Now the set at the belt sets up in this time. The pitch check swing. They’ll appeal and yes he did says Lance Barrett the umpire at third. I don’t know if I’d feel very good as an infielder playing in with Wood up. Yeah, his his average ground ball exit field looks like 110. Runners lead second and third. Rutman sets up away. The 1-1 is way outside. So, it’s weird. Twice he’s set up like they don’t want to pitch to him, but then on the 10 pitch, he set up in and they threw it in. I don’t if they’re trying to mess with his mind. Hey, we’re just going to pitch around you and then they come after him. They’re messing with my mind. Two balls and a strike. Rutman sets up in. Effin Deals and they come inside with a cutter for ball three. Rutman looking into the dugout. They don’t hold up the fourth digit, so they keep on pitching to him. Sets up way outside. 3-1 delivery. Swinging. It’s flying in the air down the left field line. Lauraniano chasing over and back. He reaches out. He makes the catch in fair territory. Tana will tag and come in to score. So Wood is able to golf that one deep in the left field corner for a sack fly. And the Nationals lead it eight to nothing. That’s Wood’s 29th RBI of the season. It’s actually a really nice catch by Lauriano. Chasing that one down, taking away potential extra base hit of the corner. He got it close to the 333 mark. The very short porch there with the wall angling out quickly to 373. So the the Orioles get the out, but a run scores and Cruz is at second for Nathaniel Low. Here’s the pitch. Check swing. Strike called at the top of the zone. 0 and one. Low not hitting with any batting gloves. Usually he does, sometimes he doesn’t. His last at bat yesterday he didn’t. All day today he’s been going bare-handed. The 01 runs inside with a cutter. One ball, one strike. Orioles bullpen has been quiet this inning. They had the left-hander Aken warming when Efflin gave up six in the second inning. A 1-1 delivery. Swing a chopping ground ball right side. Big bounce handled by Holiday. He’ll plant and fire in time to get low in the inning over. The Nationals add a run on two hits. They lead one. Middle of the fourth. The Nationals eight. The Orioles nothing. Call getting twisted around to the wall looking up and there it goes. Number seven on the year for Henderson. Makes it 8-2 Nationals. That one just up into the jetream. A routine out most days. The Orioles get one pushed over the fence. It’s kind of difficult to just fly out to right field today. I mean, we saw this on the bus coming over, seeing the wind. We saw it last night after the game. The wind has just been blowing for two days straight here ferociously in the same direction. Now, the Mullen’s home run was not I that was going to be a home run no matter what. That was a windb blown home run. Pitch to Rutman, fouled back into the left. And with that home run, the Nationals get the bullpen going. Right-hander Brad Lord. Again, Michael Stroke has not had a winning decision since July 21st of 2023. The 01 in there over the outside corner. That was when he was pitching for the Atlanta Braves. He beat the Milwaukee Brewers. He was 0 and10 last year for the White Socks and two losses and three starts this year. You know, it looked like he might get the win against Cleveland, but the sixth inning fell apart. Here’s the 02 pitch. Swinging. It’s hooked foul down the right field line over the netting into the crowd. So this is that point where Sro’s kind of run out of steam in his first two starts off the IIL. So I mean Lords Lord’s up there now one pitch into the inning. You get a run on the board and the right-hander warming. Here’s the O2 just missed low with a breaking ball. Maybe their plan was six innings at best or in the event he tires they want to have Lord ready. wind in the one-two change up locked him up outside corner caught him looking. Michael Sroka ties his season high with his eight strikeout. That’s out number one. The other thing you got to think it’s it’s 8 to2. You say, “Well, yeah, it’s a lopsided game, but the way that wind is blowing. You know, you can put up a number hurry in a hurry here. This Nationals did it already.” So Dave Martinez getting somebody ready. Here’s the pitch to O’Harn. Ryan lines a base hit to right center field. Long chase for Cruz. This one O’Harn’s going to try for second. Cruz deep right center. The throw is going to be cut off by Garcia. So Dylan was shaded over to left center. O’Harn plugs the gap in right center field for a one-out double. Here come the Orioles. That was an elevated fast ball at 93 miles an hour. Felt high and out over the plate. He put Barrel to it. So Lord probably going to get ready with more urgency now. Here’s Raone Lauraniano who’s six for eight in the first two games. 0 for two today. Running into a force out and flying to left. The kick of the pitch going away with the breaking ball. Soka kicks and throws. Ground ball left side. Tana has it. Juggles it. Reathers. Throws on to first. Little high but low. Reaches out. Hauls it in. Keeps his foot on the bag. Holding at second. O’Harn. That was a bit dicey for a moment. Looked like it might roll out of his glove, which showing happened twice this series. Kar Ruiz is going to take a walk to the mound. We’ll have a slow down in action brought to you by Eizer Bay. This is from the dugout telling him to go out there. Stall for Lord to throw a few more. And you want to highlight how you want to pitch Mullins, who got the Orioles on the board with a home run last inning. Solo homers aren’t going to get you beat when you’re up 8-2. But a crooked number can get the O’s back in the game. And this crowd really for the first time with something to cheer. Big crowd on youth baseball softball day. First pitch to Mullins. Change up. Perfect pitch over the inside corner. Sarroka just reached the 80 pitch mark. That’s 0 and one to Mullins. He fires. So a long drive right field. Way back it goes. Hall to the wall and this one is off the wall. Run will score. Throw to second as Mullins was thinking it was a home run but throw comes in way too high. goes all the way to third base. Backed up by Tana. So Mullins had to turn on the Jets. Think he had a home run. He settles for a double. It’s now the Nationals eight and Baltimore three. High off the fence stayed in the yard and that’s going to be all for Sroa. Alex call lately few of his throws have missed cut off men. Sailing high fortunately did not cost an extra base. But uh pitches come up this inning and some balls have been hit hard. Wind or no win. So Dave’s going to take the baseball and maybe Seroka tired here in this sixth inning. All of the bullpen brought to you by Main Street Bank. Brad Lord coming in. The Orioles have a pulse here in this sixth inning. It’s 8 to3. The national take a hack at guessing which baseball player or manager said the following. I really don’t know what to say. I’m just uh so happy I gave something these people cheer. We all did. He was good for the most part, but perhaps tired of it in the sixth inning. Here’s the pitch blowing away. keeping it away from Wood, which they tried to do Friday night, and James got his arms extended and demolished one. It’s one thing to go away, but you better not miss middle away. Rutman sets up to the outside. The two from Akin just missed. Low and away. Full count. A look in. works for the stretch. The 3-2 delivery, swinging a miss, he got Wood to chase the slider and struck him out. So, Aken with his first strike out. Two for 11 with a homer in the series. Aken throws. Misses too low. One ball, one strike. Sun is pouring through the partly cloudy sky cover. It’s nice afternoon. The breeze continuing to blow out to right briskly. Pitch catches the outside corner at the knees. One and two. Win has been a factor on balls hit in the air to right and right center. Good day to hit for a left-handed pole hitter. Can get it in the air. Pitch. Strike three called over the outside corner at 94. So Aken has done well since coming in. Four up, four down. Two strikeouts here in the top of the seventh. Dave, it was pointed out to be between innings by our friend Kevin Brown who calls the Orioles games useful or not useless information. Here’s Karet Ruiz. Pitch popped up right side. O’Harn chasing. He’s out of room. Strike one. Well, Kar Ruiz falls into this category. You take Wood Low, Ruiz, Bell, Call, and Tana. All have last names with four letters. Yep. And then put Brad Lord into the game and add one more. Okay. One syllable some. Here’s the 01. Ruiz fouls one back. Not all. Apparently a good catch made down below. That go into the press box. out just down below us. Very low vantage point here for the great vantage point. It’s always been one of the best. The Knights the keyboard or they don’t have keyboards anymore. Here’s the pitch. Swing a fly ball right center field. Moving over is Mollins. He’s calling for it in right center. Mullins makes the catch. That’s a one, two, three inning for Keegan Aken. We have reached the middle of the seventh inning here at Oriel Park at Camp Yards with the Nationals leading it 8-3. Brad Lord will work on to the bottom of the seventh inning with an 8-3 lead. Give you a quick injury report presented by Anova, the official healthc care provider of the Washington Nationals. Orlando Raalta threw a simulated game yesterday. He’s expected to throw one more and then go out on a rehab assignment as the Nationals reliever trying to return as quickly as possible. A right bicep strain. He’s going to throw again on Tuesday. Brad Lord works from the windup against Emanuel Rivera. to the pitch, swinging a miss, a fast ball at the belt. Rivera has gone down on strikes twice as the inning starts. Andrew Chaff and the left-hander warms for the Nats. Here’s the wine in the 01 way outside. Meanwhile, in the Baltimore bullpen, they have a dueling right-handers, Brian Baker and Cade Strad was brought up today. Here’s the one-1 swinging a miss by Rivera. Straoud as if he gets in the game, it’ll be his big league debut, but he was on the roster for a day in April, but didn’t get into a game. So, I’m sure his heart is pumping right now. The one-two plays off the breaking ball this time does Rivera. Two balls, two strikes. And he was added to their 40man roster to avoid the rule five draft last November. That usually increases your chances of making it to big leagues that following year. That’s now the two-2 way outside. So Lord has gone full. Lord faced Kirstad to ret to end the sixth inning. So even though Holiday is a left-handed hitter on deck, he’s got to face him. That’ll be the third batter. 3-2 pitch. Swinging a fly ball right center field. Cruz is shaded that way. Moving back a bit, still drifting. Makes the catch off his left side. How about a step from the warning track? Cruz lined that up perfectly. Kept the ball out of the sun, angling his body, kind of facing toward the right field line, and he hauls it in for the out. Tell you what, any ball hit in the air toward right center, right field, Dave, is is a home run threat with that wind. There’s Jackson Holiday. Lawrence delivering just missed low. Holiday with a hit in the third. Reached on an error in the fifth. He’s one for three. Lord brings in the next one and it’s popped up down the left field line. That’ll end up in the stands about 15 rows in. The Orioles are on to Milwaukee. No off day tomorrow. The Nationals take tomorrow off. Got a lot of Monday off days coming up over the next month. the 1-1 swinging a miss. Fast up to 98 from Lord. That’s the top end of his VO. Time out for Holiday. That’s back at it Tuesday. Should be a fun home stand with the Braves and the Giants. Braves are surging and the Giants have had a good start to the year. Let’s hope Wilmer Defo cools off or Wilmer Flores, I should say. Wilmer Defo is hot. You’ve got a story. Pitch is outside. Wilmer Flores is several multi homer games this year. Two two on Holiday. Here’s the delivery. Swinging a foul third base side. Third deck caught there. I suspect somewhere though Wilmer Defo’s hot. Well, you know he’s swinging for the fences. That guy tried to hit a home run every time even though he was not built like a power hitter. Two-2 cracked deep left center field. This one way back may go and it is gone. Up into the splash zone well beyond the left center field wall. Opposite field shot for Holiday. The Orioles with their third solo homer. It’s now an 8 to4 Nationals lead. They’re chipping away a run at a time. That’s more of a line drive homer. 103 miles an hour two ft. I’ll tell you, left center, you get it out. Ball’s jumping today. There’s no doubt. There’s Ryan Mount Castle. Probably the last batter for Lord. Wine to the pitch. Swinging a miss. Blew that one by him at 97. Chaffen’s already ready. Next pitch, strike called at the knees over the outside part of the plate. 0 and2 shaping him throw about six balls in the bullpen and he’s ready. His assignment likely will be to face Gunnar Henderson. The wind up the O2 from Lord. Ground ball chopped to third in between hop backhanded by Tana. Throws to first for the out. Nice. That was a tricky hop and Tana was able to backhand the second bounce and throws out Mount Castle. He’s going to get caught with the in between hop to take it like that on the back hand was pretty nifty. And you’re right, that was the last batter. Here comes Dave. So Lord faces four batters, retires three, does get touched for the homer. So the Orioles kind of running out of outs, but they’re chipping away. Matt’s trying to race to 27 outs and hold on to this lead that’s now 8 to4. Pitching change brought to you by Main Street Bank. It’ll be Chaffing against Henderson when we come back to Baltimore on the Nationals Radio Network. Take a hack at guessing which baseball player or manager said the following. I really don’t know what to say. I’m just uh so happy I gave something. These people cheer. We all did. I mean, it was a great game. Both teams played incredible. It was a great game. The Orioles have chipped away with three solo homers, plus an RBI double that fortunately stayed in the park. So, Chaan brought on with two down and nobody on the bottom of the seventh to face Gunner Henderson who homered against Seroka last inning. Trying to turn around what have been a tough series to this point. Chaffen’s ninth appearance over five and a third innings in the first eight appearances. as he’s given up six hits, two runs, one earned, six walks, six strikeouts, three wild pitches. So, a lot happening in his innings. Here’s the pitch. Takes. It’s a slider low and outside. Their baseman, Tana, is over in a shortstop position. Abrams, the shortstop, is up the middle. Pitch in there. a fast ball at 91. It’s only Brian Baker now. One right-hander throwing in the Orioles pen. Four-run game with this wind blowing out to right. It’s a close game. Here’s the pitch. Bow outside. So, they’re going to opt not to use Straoud for his big league debut and go with the more seasoned reliever for the eighth inning on the Baltimore side. Chaffen trying to get the game to the eighth inning. Two-1 to Henderson. Ball three. Fast ball outside. Jaffen struck out Henderson Friday night. Pitch in there. Henderson was starting to first base. He thought the pitch was high. Brock Belaloo said, “No, it’s in there.” Henderson is going to ask for a timeout. Meanwhile, Jorge Lopez begins to throw. The former Orio right-hander in the Nationals bullpen. You wonder how eager Davy Martinez is to use Jos Ferrer. He’s had heavy workload the first two days. 35 pitches. 3-2. So, he had a slow ground ball right side along the line foul. Ferrer threw 20 pitches Friday, 15 yesterday, and then didn’t pitch Thursday, but threw 29 on Wednesday. So he has had a heavy workload over the last four days. Who figured they’d love to give Ferrer today off and the off day tomorrow. Have him reset for Atlanta. Another 3-2 from Chaffen is on the way. He walked a slider downstairs and Henderson disgustedly flipped his bat away and just fired his shin guard and his elbow guard toward his own dugout. The body language of Gunnar Henderson uh not very friendly toward the home plate umpire. And that’s that’s for all day, not just this particular at bat mentioned. Well, he he wasn’t happy about the 3-1 pitch. Marcel Ozuna just hit a two-run homer off former Brave John Nukem. They’ve scored three off Nukem in the eighth. Braves now lead the Red Sox 10-4. Pitch is on the way. Adley Rutman takes a strike. Rutman hitting right-handed. The issue for Chaffen, the the bouts of wildness, seven walks now in five and a third innings with three wild pitches. Time out and Chaffan warned. Now he’s not happy. He came set and Rutman wasn’t attentive to the pitcher. And when Cha got the warning, he threw his palms up as if to say, “What me?” He hates the these particular new rules. 8-4 Nats lead seventh inning. the pitch swing a pop up out of play to the right. I mean, the one thing the umpire whenever he gives those warnings, the hitter might be looking down, but the umpire, it’s hard for him to see where the the hitter’s eyes are. He might have his head kind of looking down, but he maybe he’s looking at the pitcher out of the corner of his eye. But I guess if the head’s down, that’s the the trigger for the umpire to issue the warning. Henderson at first, the O2 check swing on a slider. They appeal. No swings, says Manny Gonzalez. All about taking away the pitcher’s ability to quick pitch the hitter. Blame Max Scherzer for that. For that spring training game he had against the Nationals when he when he quick pitched Victor Rob the set and a throw over. Henderson backstanding in the game here on Friday. Chaffen had a pickoff and a caught stealing. You wouldn’t figure Henderson a run with the O’s down four. The one-two swing another foul. Just got a piece of the slider and trickled it behind the plate. Jaff rubs up a new baseball. Now the kick and the pitch check swing and a ball down. This time he went as the first base umpire Manny Gonzalez on the appeal. Crowd here doesn’t like that call. So Chaffen able to get the strike out after the walk to end the inning and the Orioles get one on the holiday home run. We go to the eighth. Nationals eight. Baltimore. It’s a great night for baseball. This matchup features some of the best talent in the game. A lot of power, a lot of marquee names. Here we go. Buckle up, folks. Well, the Orioles make a pitching change and they’ll call on the right-hander Brian Baker to face Garcia Bell and call. Baker struck out Garcia as a pinch hitter in a big spot the other night. Here Baker just trying to keep the Orioles close. Nationals had an early eight nothing lead. The O’s have cut it in half. Chipped away to eight to four. Nationals trying to get the final six outs and get out of here with a sweep. Set for the top of the eighth inning and in with a playbyplay from the Nissan broadcast booth. Here’s Charlie Sloves. All right, thank you Dave. Meanwhile in Philadelphia, first final of the day, the Phillies shut out the Pirates one- nothing. Mick Ael, six shut out innings in his major league debut for the win. Romano the save. Here’s Luis Garcia Jr. against Baker and checks up with a first pitch fast ball in for a strike. Well, this is may become a regular thing. A couple of these recently, Dave, a complete game loss. Paul SK pitched eight innings, gave up just the one run, struck out nine, walked one, three hits allowed, falls to three and five with a 244 RA. Garcia looks at a pitch of the knees, a called strike. Complete game. Complete game loss. Those who were extinct also in today’s game. Baker second appearance of the series for twothirds of an inning Friday. Struck out two batters he faced. Stranded two runners. And the pitch is in there. Called strike three. A change up of the knees. And Luis Garcia Jr. looks at three straight pitches out on strikes and has words with the home plate umpire Brock Beloon. For Brian Baker, the appearance overall is his 20th of the year. Two and0 record. He had an even two runs per nine innings with two holds. No saves or blown saves. Josh Bellow for three stands in from the left side. Pitch on the way is a fast ball outside. Ball one. Bakers worked 18 in a third innings now. Given up 13 hits, struck out 23 with that strike out and walked five. Allowed three home runs. And the pitch off speed delivery in at the knees called strike with a change up. He’s got a funky over-the-top delivery. I mean the Nats couple hitters the other night struggle to pick it up. Garcia that over the top change up tough look. Baker delivers way back to right center field. Going way up the seats in right center field. A tape measure home run for Josh Bell. It’s his sixth of the year. They’ve all come for the left side of the plate. His 15th run batted in. And the Nationals get one back here in the top of the eighth inning to push the lead back to five. It’s Washington nine and Baltimore four. What a blast by Josh Bell. Hey, no doubter. Like I said, you really can’t pick him up. But that was the fast ball, not the change up. And Bell was right on it and caught all of it. Good for him. Now has a sevengame inning streak going in each game, but it’s a start. Maybe he’s getting five. Alex Call swings and misses at a fast ball for strike one. Call’s been hit by a pitch. scored on the three-run homer by Dylan Cruz in the second. Struck out and doubled to right off the wall. Baker delivers. Fast ball hit in the air to right toward the line, slicing toward foul ground. It will land off the netting. No play. The Bell home run. Estimated distance 433 feet for right center field. That one was way up in the air, too. I mean, that was a 31 degree launch angle. 0 and2 on call. One out, nobody out of the eighth. Fence ball swung on. He fouls it straight back behind the play. Now Baker comes at and now the pitch check swing didn’t go yes on the appeal says Manny Gonzalez the first base umpire and call struck out of the check swing two away. Well, not only did Jack Lighter, the Texas Rangers lose his no hitter in the seventh inning. Actually, yeah, in the seventh, he came back pitching the eighth. Now, no chance to win because former National Robert Garcia gave up a three-run homer to Isach Paredes. And the Astros have a 4-3 lead going to the bottom of the ninth with Josh Ader pitching. Now, the batter, the Nationals, Jose Tana takes outside ball one. That game turned around. Now the pitch on the way. Called strike over the outside corner. One and one. Loose for the Dodgers who lost the first two of their series with the Angels. They activate Tommy Edmond for their game today. Their longest tenur position player released pitch in first strike. Chris Taylor released today by the Dodgers. Austin Barnes let go earlier in the week. So the Dodgers starting to turn it over to younger players. Now the pitch swing and a miss and Tana down on strikes. Three strikeouts in the inning for Baker. Got him with a high heater but he does give out a one out solo homer to Josh Bell. His sixth of the year and one hit. We go to the bottom of the eighth here in Baltimore. It’s the Nationals N. Take a hack at guessing which baseball player or managers had the following. Bottom of the eighth inning, another call to the bullpen for the Nationals brought to you by Main Street Bank as they will bring on the former Orio 32-year-old rightander Jorge Lopez. Lopez makes his second appearance of the series. He worked the eighth inning here on Friday night, giving up a pair of signals, struck out a batter through 20 pitches. And in the Nationals the go ahead run in the top of the ninth inning. He earned the win. Homer Royal pitching for the Nationals has a 6 and0 record despite a 7.2 RA his 22nd appearance. He kicks. He delivers. And the fast ball’s outside. It’s two balls, no strikes. O’Harn, Lauriano, and Mullins. The scheduled three for the Orioles. Rightander Cage Stout up again in the Orioles pen. Lopez delivers swing and a dribbler foul off to the left of the plate onto the grass in the direction of the Nationals dugout. It’s two balls in a strike. Biggest crowd of the series, 37,264. Orioles have averaged a shade under 24,000 so far this year. This puts them over a half million in total attendance for the year and their 22nd home date. Lopez into the wide of the pitch. Fast ball called strike at the knees and O’Harn his head tilted to the side as he looked back at home play umpire Brock Belaloo. Two balls, two strikes. First base side of the rubber. Lopez kicks and fires. Swing and a foul. Left side out of play. Fast ball running in on it. Meanwhile in Milwaukee, the Brewers lead the Twins four to one after six. Twins 13game winning streak on the line and they’re trailing. Lopez kicks, delivers the pitch, fast ball inside. all three three and two wins it so hot moved into second place in the American League Central four games behind the Tigers who lead Toronto 3-2 bottom of the eighth inning Detroit has won 30 games 30 and 16 now the pitch swinging a miss he got him Lopez comes back from a two- count and eventually strikes out Ryan O’Harn one away in the bottom of the eighth inning that is the 10th strikeout for nationals pitchers First eight for Michael Sroka. Andrew Chaffin had one. A facing two batters in the seventh with a walk and a strike out to complete the inning. Oriano’s 0 for three. Grounded a short fly to left. Grounded to third. One ball, one strike. Clock is down to five as Lopez comes set. He kicks. He delivers. Swing and a miss and a change up with a mighty rip at it. One and two on Raone Lauriano. One out, nobody on. Bottom of the eighth. Nats are leading nine to four as they try and sweep this beltway series here in Baltimore. Make it five out of six for the year against Baltimore. The pitch swinging a ground ball through an open right side into right field at base hit. Garcia was shading the middle against the right-handed hitter. So he slapped it toward the hole and Lauriano has his first hit of the day and seventh hit in 12 times up in this series. brings up Cedric Mullins who’s had a good game after grounding to first in the second off the fifth with a home run to right field and then in the sixth double to right to drive in a run. Two for three for Mullins. Tana’s in on the grass against his speed and the bunt possibility. Lopez kicks and delivers. Breaking ball bending in called strike with a curve ball. Lopez of course pitched for the Orioles. Marks of three years swinging a fly ball left center field deep. Moving back and over is Wood and Cruz. It’s Wood on the warning track and makes the catch. A step from the fence. James Wood able to go get it. Cruz there also. But Wood hauls it on the track for the second out. And back to first goes Lauriano. They’ll bring up H Kirst. He is struck out looking bounced to second and then out on a nice play by both low field of the ball and Brad Lord getting over to cover to take the throw for the third out in the sixth inning. Lopez pitched for the Orioles twice. 2021 part of 22 and again part of 23. Swinging a miss by Kirstad strike one. So no doubt he wants to do well here. Was an all-star in Nora’s uniform in 22 that great first half. Wound up saving 19 and 23 tries and was promptly traded to the Twins. Pitch on the way is low. One ball and one strike in in that deal the Orioles got both Yen CanΓ³ and Kate Povich pitchers on their big league staff. Two other players too. Now the pitch on the way. Swinging a slow roller toward the middle. Abrams to his right there. He’ll have to play to first. He does to low in time for the out to end the inning. So no runs, one hit and one man left for the Orioles. Jorge Lopez has himself a scoreless bottom of the eighth. After eight, it’s the Nationals nine. The Orioles. It’s a great night for baseball. No swing, says Manny Gonzalez. And the count two and0 on Cruz who blasted a three-run homer in the second to left center. His sixth of the year. An infield hit and robbed of a hit on a diving play by the second baseman Holiday to throw him out at first. So Cruz two for three, batting ninth in the order today. in the pitch checks up on another, but apparently the home plate umpire Bakaloo said he swung. So it’s two and one. Cage Strad wearing number 57 in the Orioles black jersey. Kicks and delivers. Called strike with a fast ball and the count. two balls and two strikes. David mentioned he was up earlier for one other call up for a day when the Orioles needed an extra arm, but he didn’t get used and went back to Norfick. So now his debut. Here’s the pitch. Breaking ball and Cruz skies it in the air to right center field. Kirstad moving to his right is there and he makes the catch for the out. Hung behind the clouds. Here’s CJ Abrams standing in. Harley Slow’s Dave Jaggler with you from the Nissan Broadcast booth in Baltimore. the pitch high off the glove of the catcher Rutman on a curveball that got away. Ball one. Nationals nine, Orioles four with Kyle Finnegan now warming in the Nationals bullpen. That’s a day off tomorrow. And Finnegan hasn’t pitched much. Looks like he’s going to come on for the ninth. Pitches outside. It’s two balls, no strikes. That will be a first this year. He’s made 17 appearances. 16 save chances on an opening day. He pitched in a tie game in the ninth inning. Shout ready to pitch to Abrams. Fouled off to the left and out of play. So it’ll only be the second appearance in a non-save situation. And again, the other one was a tie game in the ninth. So this will be the first, you know, kind of low leverage appearance for fitting. Davey probably feels with the wind in this ballpark that it’s enough for leverage for him. Here’s the pitch. Breaking ball and Abrams could not hold on a check swing and a pitch well off the plate. It’s two and two. And again, he had he basically had a week off and then an appearance Wednesday in Atlanta and an appearance Friday here. So, he’s not been overworked. Abrams homered on two of his first three swings for the day. a game lead off home run and a homerred again on an 01 pitch in the second. Fast ball is outside. Full count now three and two. His 11th career leadoff home run, fifth on the first pitch, fourth this year and made it a multi homer game with his eighth of the year in the second inning. Now the pitch swinging a line drive left center field. Mullins on the run. He’s going to dive and he can’t get it. It’s off his glove, scoots past the left fielder, Lauriano, backing up behind him, but Lauriano on it quickly. And so Abrams turns and holds it second with his third extra base hit of the day. That ball was slicing away from Mullins. It initially didn’t look like he’d get anywhere near it. And he made the effort and dove and it was off his glove on the short hop. Yeah. When it’s flected away, Abrams was thinking triple. Settles for the double. 10 total bases today with two homers and a double. Cole Henry. Cole Henry moves up alongside Finnegan. Maybe like five run leads. The save chance. Now the pitch to James Wood. Looks it over. Low ball one. Wood one for three with a pop fly single in the second plus a steal after that. Delivered a sack fly to drive and a run in the fourth inning. And the pitch in there called strike to wood taking. That’s with five home runs in the game. For last time they did that was September 29th of 23 in Atlanta. Last time they hit five home runs in a game. Pitch swung on. Tap foul behind the plate. One and two on Wood. Abrams with the two home runs. his second career multi-H homer game and Cruz and Abrams going back to back in the second. Second time the Nats have done that this year. Sun breaking through the clouds again and the pitch swing and a tapper up the third base line. A foul ball. Wood who started running it out with a bat still in his hands will come back to the plate. Game over at Fenway. Braves beat the Red Sox 10 to four. Miami also a winner over Tampa Bay 5 to one at Lone Depot Park. 8 final and Yankees play tonight. Here’s the set now. The kick and the pitch way outside with a fast ball. Two balls, two strikes with one out and Abrams at second. Top of the ninth inning in Baltimore. The Nats leading nine to four. Found his thin sum. More than 37,000 here today. Stra delivers. Breaking ball again. Wood gets a piece and rolls it. Foul off to the right of the plate. Fighting off the curve ball. Final score in Arlington Texas. The Astros with that come from behind victory beat the Rangers four to3. Strow delivers. Wood swings and grounds it toward the middle on throw into right center field. Aer base hit. Abrams around third. Coasting in to score. Cedric Mullins up with it in right center. Plays it into second. And James Wood with his second run batted into of the day on a ground ball up the middle. What an at bat. Fighting off some tough pitches. And then he grounds one into center field to get the Nationals into double digits. It’s now the Nationals 10 and the Orioles four. Two straight days the Nationals hit double digits. And you today the tackon runs the Orioles chipped away made eight nothing, eight to four, one in the eighth, one in the ninth. Make this uh situation where Finnegan won’t get an appearance. It appears Cole Henry now the only pitcher throwing. Throw to first and no one was there. Ah so Wood’s going to go to second. That’s crazy. Straoud in his major league debut turned to throw and didn’t realize that O’Harn was not holding the runner. That ball sailed over to the stands and Wood coasts into second. I I don’t uh I don’t know if they call the the pickoff uh the pitch com that was odd. You can be called for a B for throwing to an occupied base, but just an E1. Alo stands in. He swings and misses and loses the bat. Flies off the netting above the Orioles dugout and down into their dugout. Talks about how low hasn’t been wearing batting gloves today. Now he’s going for some spray grip as the bat is finally retrieved. That boy was bringing another one from the dugout, but then Low wanted the one. Well, now I think he’s using the new one. the heck with it while they get that one. I’ll work the grip on this bat. There was a hole in that other one. No balls at a strike. Now the pitch on the way. Swing and a squiver foul. Broke the camera well of the home plate end of the Orioles dugout to the right of home plate. Nationals trying to make it three straight in four wins in their last five games. Now the pitch low swings and hits it in the air to left field. Lauraniano moving back to his right. Reaches up, makes the catch for the out. Wood halfway retreats to second. Two down here in the top of the ninth inning. Tell you what, this is not an easy left field to play anymore. That’s a deep corner. Anything over your head can take a crazy bounce off that angled wall that faces the right field corner and you got one that faces the third base line. It’s kind of in a way like Pittsburgh. You need a left fielder with range. There’s so much ground to cover. Here’s Kar Ruiz one for four. An RBI single in the second. Stra delivers. Swing and a miss. Strike one. Generally, you put your outfielder with the least range in left, but in this park, at the beginning of the year, they were can’t put a lumbering outfielder out there. The beginning of the year, they were playing O’Neal in left and Pier right and then they flipped them. So, O’Neal’s now on the injury list with a sore left shoulder. Now, the pitch, breaking ball outside, one ball and one strike. Let’s just say that about Yankee Stadium. You needed a left field cover a lot of ground out of left center. Now the set. Here’s the pitch. Swinging a grounder foul outside of first. No play. This would be similar because right fielder is much smaller here now than what left field is. Kind of looks a lot like City Field now, doesn’t it? With the the party deck out there over the left field wall, the original high fence behind them. That That was all a failed attempt here, moving the wall back and making it much higher. Here’s the pitch. Ruiz swings and a foul tip into the glove of Rutman on a curveball way inside. So Ruiz strikes out on a pitch not close to the strike zone and the inning’s over. Nationals get one run on one hit. There was an error and a man left at second. Take a hack at guessing which baseball player or manager said the following. I really don’t know what to say. I’m just uh so happy I gave something. These people cheer. We all did. I mean, it was a great game. Both teams played incredible. It was a great game. That’s Mike Piaza after he hit an eighth inning go-ahead home run in the first New York Mets home game after 911. Let’s see if we can figure out the following baseball slang term. Today’s phrase is oppo taco. Do you know what it means? Oppo taco. A home run hit to the opposite field. Austin H with an awful taco, his 13th and it’s a one-run game. Expand your vocabulary by listen to every game on the MLB app and mlb.com. Visit bbay.com. That’s ervy.com. Bottom of the ninth inning and Cole Henry is on to try and put the finishing touches to this one. Nationals now lead the Orioles 10 to four. Jorge Lopez pitched the eighth. No runs a hit and a strike out. He threw 16 pitches. And so now it’ll be Cole Henry to try and finish. Henry last worked here on Friday. Came on in the fourth inning. Relief McKenzie Gore. That wild outing for Gore. Gave up 10 hits and struck out nine and three and two/3. And Henry came in, got a strike out of Raone Aras and stranded. The bases loaded. First pitch swung on and it’s popped up by the third baseman Rivera. Shallow center out goes Garcia. In comes Cruz and Garcia with a number two facing us is back to home plate. Made it over the shoulder catch with a glove. Palms up. That’s a much easier play for the outfielder coming in, but Garcia nonchalantly made that play. That was a tough play as try. You were just waiting for Cruz to get there and call him off, but he didn’t really get there. So Garcia made a nice play. So, one pitch, one out. Bottom of the ninth inning. And the pitch to Jackson Holidays. Popped up foul. Third base side going out of play. But Cole Henry, appearance number 13. No record. Has a 3.14 yard. No holds or saves. 14 and third innings coming in. He allowed five runs on 10 hits, one homer. Struck out 17 walk six. He has hit four batters. And a pitch inside. It hit him. It hit him. He’s hit five batters now. It hit him. I can’t get those hit batter stats out of my mouth before somebody gets drilled. You set it up perfectly. Unbelievable. So Henry now is, you know, you you don’t want to get into that league leader category, but he’s now one ahead of Jos Fere. Here’s Ryan Mount Castle. First pitch swung on, looped down the right field line. A foul ball and no play on the warning track. Hit foul ground. No balls in a strike. Mount Castle an infield hit in the first. Extended hitting streak to 12 games in a row. Struck out looking and grounded out twice on the infield. So, one for four, one out, one on. Bottom of the ninth inning. Henry delivers and the pitch is outside. One ball and one strike. The Nationals the propensity to hit batters now have hit 33 the year. Apparently a fan being asked to remove himself off of security. Shouting at Gunnar Henderson over something. I don’t know if Henderson replied to him. He’s kind of looking over from the deck circle. But the uh the ushers want security. The ushers are standing in his way from getting close down to yell at Anderson. Pitch of the way, swinging a ground ball toward the middle. Abrams glove flip to Garcia. Turn shot throw to first. What a play by in the books with a spectacular game ending double play here in Baltimore. Abrams and Garcia high fives and hugging each other. That was a highlight reel. Spectacular double play started by CJ Abrams and Garcia getting the throw to low and plenty of time to double up Mount Castle. And the sweep of the beltway series in Baltimore is complete. The Nationals come in and boy, you catch a team at the right time. A one-run win Friday. And then the Nationals put 20 runs on the board combined in the final two games of the series. And today use the long ball. They hit five home runs with two from CJ Abrams. Garcia Cruz a three-run homer and Josh Bellisolo. And the Nationals on the field to celebrate a victory and a series sweep in Baltimore. The final score with a curly W in the books. The Washington Nationals 10. The Baltimore Orioles four. And I think CJ was more excited about that double play than either of his home runs. He was hopping around like a little kid after making that spectacular glove flip for the double play. That was an amazing play and the Nationals finish it off in style as they end up sweeping the Orioles. And this was the last two days domination jumping on a starter early and a big hit delivered by Dylan Cruz. It was good to see him get going. A two for four day, the big blast in the second inning against Effin and he is standing by with Craig Heist. Thanks a lot Dave. Yeah, Dylan, I got to ask you about that second inning. We saw a six-run inning yesterday, another six-run inning today. What is it about this offense in this series right now? Um, I mean, we’re all swinging the bat really well right now. It’s uh give a lot of credit to our hitting coaches, first of all. But, um, yeah, I mean, I don’t I don’t think there’s really any holes in the lineup, you know. I think every every guy has an opportunity to hit one out of the park and, uh, drive a run in. So, uh, right now we’re just doing really good with that and moving guys over, getting guys in when we need to. But, yeah, the home run two for four day. Uh, as far as you’re concerned, what are you feeling? How are you feeling right now at the plate? I feel great. Staying confident, staying positive every day, and uh, you know, just trying to trying to do as best as I can to help the team win. How long has it been? Because it was a struggle earlier, but just that constant work dayto day to get yourself to where you are right now. Uh, something to build on. Yeah, defin
