2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs – West Semis – Golden Knights vs. Oilers – Game 2 – P-B-P & Color

[Music] [Applause] Heat. Heat. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] Game two of the Western Conference semifinals. the Edmonton Oilers and the Vegas Golden Knights. The Oilers enter this game with five consecutive come from behind victories. History in the Stanley Cup playoffs as it’s the first time that any team has done it. The top two picks for the 2015 draft largely talked about because it is two generational talents, Conor McDavid and Jack Eel being number one and number two. Eel drafted by the Buffalo Sabres before getting traded to the Vegas Golden Knights. The two of them combined for,690 points, the most productive onetwo punch in a draft since their selections. But what’s largely forgot about is pick number five of that year’s draft 20 in 2015. Noah Hannifin selected by the Carolina Hurricanes. Now teammates with Eel as he was acquired at the trade deadline and last season’s trade deadline from Calgary to Vegas as I as we are here for game two of this Western Conference semifinal. Alec Navo joined by Ian Genji. How are we doing for tonight’s match? I’m doing well. Again, I don’t really care who who wins. I guess it’d be kind of cool if the Oilers got another opportunity at the cup on on on further reflection again. Um, you know, I’m just hoping for a good match for a good hockey game. I was kind of hoping the Hurricanes would take two games in Washington, but yeah, unfortunately it doesn’t look like they’re going to do that. Yeah, Tom Wilson at the empty net. Right on the broken stick from Brent Burns. And when you have a broken stick when trying to defend, that’s always a bummer. Yeah. Yep. And that’s the third goal of Wilson in this postseason. But the main show here is McDavid versus Eel. It’s no Crosby versus Ovetchkin. But that’s the perks that makes these two special players. Eichel start his career in Buffalo. McDavid in Edmonton. McDavid has remained in Edmonton. The two of them have created a ton of buzz with one another because they only play each other twice in a season between these two first picks, but everyone recognizes McDavid as the best player in the league. Just two years ago, he had more than 153 points. Eeko, on the other hand, had a slower rise to fame with the Sabres constant struggles. But this season, he had his best season of his career, 94 points in 77 games. for McDavid. It’s just another day in the office with another triple digit season. Still though, one one crucial thing separates both both of these players and that is I’ll be with another team. Jack Eel has a trophy and a ring to his name. The Stanley Cup. Yep. The McDavid came one goal shy of it with his Oilers last year, but these two are still connected since draft day with their team success and shared division. The paths may cross equal even more frequently in many years to come. Of course, that’s the obvious headliner. McDavid leads a series in points between both teams. Five goals and 10 points. Right behind him is Eel. three goals, nine points in in the 2023 second round series. The two remain active on the score sheet. That’s not surprising because as during this point on rematch so far, McDavid has two assists. Eel had just one though that was on the first of second the first of two Mark Stone goals. But most importantly, the Oilers have a one- nothing series advantage. And given this, they they can spot anyone from behind. They have come from behind five times to win five consecutive postseason games so far this year. Wow. All right. Well, the Hurricanes have officially lost game two in Washington. They go home to Raleigh to play games three and four. Uh best case scenario, they win both games at home. and either take game five in Washington or come back for game six. That the two team records between home and on the road are match up excellently with one another. So I can see the logic behind the best case scenario at being a home and home sweep. So and game two could be the breaking point this series. The odds are not in Vegas’s favor for a loss. The series is still young, but McDavid is up his postseason total to 13 points in seven games as he is one behind for the playoff. He is two two points back of the playoff lead of 15 points. that is held by Miko Rantin who had a second consecutive game of a hat-tick just last night for the Dallas Stars in their 3-2 game one victory over the Winnipeg Jets. To go to our projected lineups, the Oilers seem to have found some footing with their lineup which they have rolled on since game two of their opening round series against the Los Angeles Kings. The forwards are as follows. Leon Dreidle, Conor McDavid, Corey Perry, Evander Kane, Ryan Nan, Hopkins, Zack Hyman, Trent Frederick, Adam Henrique, Connor Brown, Basley Posen, Matias Yanmark, Victor Arvdson. Those are the four lines. And for the defense pairs, star no nurse with Evan Buchard, Jake Walman with John Queenberg, Brett Kulak with Ty Emerson, Calvin Picker the starter, Steward Skinner demoded to backup after game two of the first round series. Their healthy scratches are Derek Ryan, Olivier Rodrig, Casper Kapidan, Josh Brown, Max Jones, Jeff Skinner, and Cam Denine. Brown and Skinner were dressed for the first game against LA. They were both healthy scratches after that. Remember, the Oilers have been without Matias Ekholm since midApril because of an undisclosed injury. We’re not sure when he’s going to come back, but it appears that the Oilers have found some stability on their roster. For the Knights, they their lineup looks like this. Ivan Barbashev, Jack Eel, Mark Stone, Brandon Sod, Tomas Hurdle, Victor Olifson, Brett Howen, William Carlson, Riley Smith, Tanner Pearson, Nick Wah, and Keegan Kasar. The defense pairs, Braden McNap with Sha Theodore, Nick Hey with Alex Petrangelo, who they just got back into the lineup because he missed game one with an illness. Noah Hannville with Zack Whitecloud. Petrangel braces Kaden Corsack and the lineup. Aiden Hill the starter. Akira Schmid is the backup. Ilia Samson Sonov is the back is the healthy scratch among the net miners. But also do note that Vegas does not have Pavle Dorf because of an undisclosed injury. He was a game time decision heading into this one. So it is official. It’s a Capitals victory. But with the Knights and Oilers, it will come down to the two superstars. They are two of the best in the league, and they’re expected to drive the narrative in this series, and that much is certain. But when it’s all said and done, the question will be who delivered when it mattered the most, pushing your team one step closer to the Stanley Cup. But it also may have to come down to the role players. And with the other star on the Oiler roster, Leon Dryidle, pick number three in 2014, a popular narrative from last year’s Stanley Cup final, was the first four picks of that year’s draft. Aaron Ecuad of course being the headliner among the Panthers because he was the first overall pick with the Panthers. the two Sams, Reinhardt the Sabres second overall selection and Bennett the Flames fourth overall selection being on the Panthers and they have assembled themselves a mainstay on the top six core and then you have Dryidle a superstar in the best player among that class the third overall selection for the Oilers the scariest part was that he didn’t debut in the league until the 2017 season and that’s when the Oilers start to do their damage onto the league when they broke out and took the Anaheim Ducks to seven games. And speaking of the Ducks, much of the controversy that they had, and yes, I’m saying this was because of the recently hired Joel Quenville. Oh, say o say why why Anaheim I I got nothing. I got nothing. And you know what? I’m almost hoping this blow I’m hoping this blows up spectacularly in their face and it this becomes a very a very big learning lesson for them. They have they a lesson has to be learned here that actions speak louder than words. And if Quenvo said in his opening press conference that he is going he his actions will speak for him on becoming a better person. You have to back that up. Live up to your own words. Definitely. Oh, as we are that’s no easy transition from that topic to this game, but we’re at center ice here and I go with the opening draw. Let’s go. It is game two of the Western Conference semifinals as the Oilers will start up as the Knights get it down the ice. Here is 97. ever so dangerous. Moves it up for dryidle and this has moved aside and swung aside. Aiden Hill saw that go wide of him and the Knights will take it up the other way. Mark Stone sends it inside for Barbashev. Ivan Barbashev tied up at the near corner. Here’s Stone out in front. Intercepted by Perry as he read it for the swap but held inside. And down low it is Jack Eel. And this goes wide on the rink wide pass to the swat intended for stol looking for spur goal this series. Fedor holds the right point. Blinks one around the back hand right by Eel and into Barbashev. That bounce stop Pickard. Perry want to get this one out and does so right. The red line is gets taken up inside and stole may have gotten decked up. Picker will play this one out pursuing his Howen on the near half boards. taken up by Hyman who was hounded by Riley Smith who was reunited with William Carlson on the third line on a mid-season trade with the New York Rangers off the middle. This is flung onto the far boards whereas Jake Walman the ex Redwing and one time Shark for the near side. This gets bounced up front off of Hannathan and played out by Hill the White Cloud bouncing up and the Knights will take it up coast to coast now setting it over to the left point. Smith. This point shot was intercepted and the Oilers will go back with numbers to the far side. Evander Kane came back into the postseason in game two. Heyman, this all tied up behind the crease. Kane rushes in to try to take it away. Heyman wants to get out front. This bounces up. Makes his way to Hyman. Henriks out there. Left point. Coast to coast. Emerson fires one. Flunked it off of Hill and it’s cleared off the slot from the left point. kept it inside and right around for Heyman pass Hannneathan. Heyman runs into Hannneathan and for the left circle this gets held around by Edmonson pointed out to the right point. Emerson stands there. Emerson point to point. Kolak holds on to it. Makes his way to hell. It will hang on with 35 seconds of zone time for the oil. And the first shift for the Oilers were Leon Dryidle was almost erroneous as Eel found Mark Stone back door almost was the game’s opening goal as Pickard would could not see that pass coming in front. Barbers, that’s was stopped by Pickard on a slot shot with a feed right to him. We are 218 into the first period. Face off at the night zone. One by Edmonton. Kolak hands out onto the top of the left circle. That door. Emerson almost got it home. Frederick keeps his inside. Ty Emerson stand at the top of the right circle. Flings this one around to the far corner. The Knights take this one away as Petrangelo a late scratch in game one because of an illness. Replaced in that lineup by Kaden Corchack. Sod got tied up. Here’s Connor Brown moving it back inside. Brown backhands one wide of Hill. Held inside by Edmonson on the circle. Here’s a one tire by Bard. That one off to the boards. Picked up now at the far side by Olson. This is Petrangelo’s 146th career playoff game. He is a twotime Stanley Cup champ while once with the Blues once with the Knights. Off the far side deflected through by Arverson as the fourth line out there for the Oilers for the near corner. The Oilers keeping this one inside but Coulson lets this one go. Arbertson gets it back on the left plate. Nurse holds on off for Arbertson who stumbles. Bakos want to get down low. Jeff Desai is kept on the back end and this almost made his way to the crease. The Knights are all tied up. They free up space now on the near corner. This bounces up and picked up by the Oilers on the near side. Fired down deep by Pacen. He’ll play it out on his backand away from danger. And the Knights can’t get this one up. Possen takes away. Go for change. Don Queenberg on his back hand flings this one backwards and the Oilers will reset. Wman for Queenberg. McDavid this bounced off his stick. McDavid tried to scoot it up. Stone there. McDavid trying to make some fancy moves. Hell shut that one down as McDavid tried to elevate it. Mark Stone who had two goals in game one of this series showed his defensive prowess. So does Zack Whiteout to the best defensive minded players at their respective positions. White Cloud a stay at home defenseman. The goalending has not been a strong suit between Vegas and Edmonson. Save percentage has been under 900 between Hill and Pickard. When you include Steard, he’s had a sub 850 save percentage. Ouch. Picker plays it out into the far corner held inside by Vegas as Wman had trouble comes out behind the crease and it’s Queenbergle hangs onto it and off of bobble attempt to try to get this one inside. The Knights will reset McNab off the middle. This deflects on through. Clingberg backhands it through. Wman’s turn around up the far side. The Oilers clear it down. The Knights reset. Vegas will score first in game one. The Oilers play from behind in all their games. Drop pass from Yanmark. Here’s a quick shot that was kicked out by Hill as he covered up the five hole. The Knights play this one through. Howen gets it free all the way to the Oilers though zone where it’s Kool-Aid mark of the first period. What a move there by Koolak. Kulak shot blocked but it goes over to the far corner. Mranzo gets it to an open H. Re-1 the shots in favor of Edmonton as Barbashev moves it to Eel. Eel barbers got tangled up. Stone brings it inside. Mark Stone brings it back up to the plate. Delivered this one through onto the near half boards. Hey holds it. Deflected off a skate. That is R&H. Pass. Almost gloved down by Eel. Bouncing over towards the near corner. Stone got tangled up. Rushing towards the puck is Kane. Vander Kane played it free but it’s held at the right point or a skip right by Patrenel stick. The Oilers make their changes. Stone almost caught them off. Emerson rushed onto this puck to make sure that the Oilers will not be caught on a bad change. Up the far side, this gets bounced in deep and an icing called as our officials at this game. Referees Francis Chiron and Gord Dwire, linesman Kyle Merchesen, and Jesse Marque. Calvin Pickard a perfect five-0 this postseason but the Oilers have been winning games with the players in front of Pickard that the everyone in front of him is doing good enough that everyone in front of him is playing up to their standards that they’ve been providing and Pickard just providing just playing good enough hockey but what happens if there’s going to be a game that’s won on goending Kane keeps it inside to the near half boards where he’s tied up by Hannifan Kane on the active forch check brought out by Sod, but it’s bobbled around and the Knights bring this one inside. Nurse will not let them down deep. Bard up the far boards, but this one bounced towards Nurse. Nurse opposite side Bard back for Nurse with that fan on and he and Bard said goes up front and that’s going to be a penalty against Frederick. He tripped up his man. The Knights will go on the power play where they’ve been redot in the regular season. Brandon Sod got knocked down to his feet. It’s going to be Frederick going out for two. And when we come back at Las Vegas, the Golden Knights will head to the man advantage. Alec Navi and Genji back with you in a moment. All right. So, power play coming up. Mhm. Yep. It’s a power play for Vegas. In the meantime, it’s game two. Whoa. I don’t want the Warriors Timberwolf series to be a series that’s overshadowed by injuries, but that’s where we are. Steph Curry left game one. Anthony Edwards left game two. That’s the respective superstars for each other’s team that are have exited to the locker room in their respective games. Ouch. Yep. It was a 3-1 Washington victory game one or rather game two against Carolina at home ice with the Capitals prevailing this time around at Capital One Arena. They look more like themselves in this game and they even a series up. Logan Thompson 26 saves. Conor Mcichael, John Carlson, the goals for the Caps before Shane Goss bear got one on the man advantage. So now getting back onto this game as the Knights headed to the power play. The Vegas Golden Knights do have a plethora of scorers here on their man advantage unit. That includes Jack Eel who can set up chances for himself and also for his teammates on this faceoff won by the Oilers as Brett Kulak fires his one around for the far boards slid right by one the night that was parked at the right point. Sha Fodor will restart for Vegas. They have just one shot on goal for the opening 630. Moving up the far side, Eiko slows up. Eiko tried to backhand it to through Nan Hopkins was standing in the way. Clear back down by the Knights. Hill plays out again. It is Theodore Shay. The Fedor Rake wide on the pass. Get tied up. Here’s Stone who slow up. Stone dropping for Eel. Calmly skating back. Seeing no open lane. The Oilers boxing them out. Theodore slowing up, taking it himself from the left point. Dumped in and fired around the end boards in the way. There was nurse moving it away from Olson who was taking a spot of Dorf. The Oilers have been the Oilers didn’t have to do too much, but the Knights just can’t do anything so far with this power play. Edmonton’s penalty kill has killed off just 60% and just 61%. And here’s a center pass in front that didn’t go anywhere but was held by Stone. Eel Voret one-time made his way to the front and the Oilers get it out. Connor Brown sends this one down the ice after being a league best 94.3% on the penalty kill last year. The Oilers are league war 61% on the penalty kill in the playoffs. Eichel takes it in. backhands it down deep rushing back is nurse who backands with sway and is cleared down on the fiery down the near side. Noah Hannah will jump start this second power play backwood now the drop to Carlson. William Carlson takes it up the middle. Carlson out to near side and offside are the Knights as Brown stood with Carlson. Pavo Dorf in in game one. He’s been lethal from the top of the right circle as the go-to option for the Knights on the man advantage. If not, there’s Tomas Hurdle at the netfront on the weak side winger. You have to take into account the one-time that could be sent through from the weak side. Six power goals for the Knights this postseason. None of them have came from Eel or Hurdle. Watch for door fave in that regard, but there’s no door fave. Barbers wins the face out, but Patrangelo gets this inside. 10 seconds on the man advantage and away was Queenberg, but the Knights keep it in. Henrik ties his man up. Henrique gets this all the way out on the back hand and this exits out of play. Did it touch the glass? It’s going to be a delay game. So, just as the one power play was going to end, Trent Frederick sends up, the Knights are going to stay on the power play as Henrique tried to backhand one deep, but he skyed it. It never touched the glass. So, it’s one second of delay of game. One second of a two-man advantage before Frederick comes back onto the ice. The lone forward out there is Ryan Nent Hopkins. So the Oilers will stay on the penalty kill. Another false start. We’ll have to do it again. Nan Hopkins Hurdle won by Hurdle. Frederick’s back out there. Eel one timer. And it was a block in front and this one cleared out. Olson, Hurdle, Eel, Stone, and Theodore. The managed for the Knights. Yanmar comes out there. Frederick dumped in from the far side. Collected in and at that spot. Eel backtracking towards the point. Walking along the left circle now. Eel drops this one back. Theodore return it for Eel waiting there. Stone centering pass. Oliffson scores. Victor Olson on the one-touch feed. Back door. Vegas stays redhot on the power play. Pavo Dorf is out, but Victor Olson from that same spot that Dorf Fson can’t fire it from that circle. Olivesson taking a roll of Dorf fires it top shelf. Calvin Picker couldn’t reach for it and gets the Knights on the board here first. 1 1118 to go here in the opening period. Oilers opponents have scored first in every Edmonton playoff game so far in this postseason. They play from behind. All but one game, right? All but one game the Oilers have trailed first. Oh, this puck comes onto Hill and that was dangerously close to being if you’re a goalender 10 to goal. The Oilers have five consecutive comeback wins. The first time in NHL history this has happened. Set up behind by Perry for the far quarter return feed for Perry. McDavid sitting up at the front. Bounces off of a stick. Dry side rushes to keep. Bard sends it over but McDavid can’t keep his footing. The Knights both scoop it up and walk around. Fedor sends it down. For a change come the Knights and up the near side. This gets bounced off of Perry with Nick Hagen there through the far side and this is going to be offside on the pass across. So it’s just amazing what this Vegas power play can do. So the Oilers have came back to win their last five games. Fourth to five they were trailing by one goal. In game four they were trailing by two in which they won four-3 in overtime on a Leon Dryidle power play goal. Hyman tried to keep it on the near half board. Oilers rush to the puck. They pick it up at center ice off to the right side. This gets sent through by RNH. Shots evened up at three a piece and back backtracking and pivoting was Queenberg to get to the puck at the far corner. Off the far boards, the Knights get a chance in front, but there was a pick puck in the right circle. Another shot and that one went off a body and up onto the mesh. 10 or three to go here first period and Nick Hig had a good look at the high slot to get one back for the Knights. So, the best way to stay on to this is keep the puck in the offensive zone. Be opportunistic with your chances. And that time, the Knights were opportunistic. And on this defensive zone face out for the Oilers, Nick Wah will take it for the Knights up against Adam Henrique. And W’s tossed out. Tanner Pearson will take it in his place. Pearson was the draw and comes back to the left point for Hannifan. Fired this one around, collected the far boards and delivered back Emerson there for the near half boards. There’s a shove and with less than 10 minutes to go here in the opening period. Kasar keeps it in. Adafan a bouncy puck was washed away and Henrik trying to protect it. Fired around from the far boards. Emerson from Kolak. Kool-A and Emerson get it down. Glove down by Pearson as a nice slow up. They’ll backhand it deep and Pearson is line go off for a change. The Oilers move it up for the near side. Arbitson sets it to the far corner. Rushing there first is poten. Arbitson wants to pick it up. Knight’s trying to clear. Held inside by Nurse. And that’s just offside by a smidge. Evan Bushar wanted to keep it, but the officials were not buying it. The opening goal from Victor Olivesson. The night’s lead one- nothing here at Las Vegas when we return. All right, so Vegas with the early power play goal. That is that is good news for them. Yep. From that same position that Pavo Dorf thrives at on the power play, the right circle, you need you need to deliver that next man up mentality if you’re Vegas. So far, it’s working. Next man up in the absence of Dorf Fev who’s been electric on the man advantage. Since we’re in the midst of this intermission, it is Olson from Stone and Eel on the man advantage so far in this game. We’re on standby to see if there any other news around the NHL. Do you do know about Quenville being the second coach in this coaching cycle? The first one, Mike Sullivan. So, when we get to an intermission, we’ll get your thoughts on the other some other news around the league. Well, as we’re getting back here from Las Vegas. So, the Oilers have five Stanley Cups between 1984 and 1990. The last one won with Mark Messier as captain. The Golden Knights just two years removed from winning the franchise’s first Stanley Cup. This This is the Golden Knight’s eighth year of existence. Eichel stops from the from the left hatch at the left circle. He sees that he has no lane. Delivers to Stone. And Stone thinks quickly decides not to put this in the back of the net. Delivers a one-touch feed to Olivesson. That’s the bread and butter. 9:15 to go here. First period of game two. Oilers lead the series one game to none. Golden nights lead this game one golden on McDavid dry side. They’re both out there as it’s won by McDavid. Fired around by Wman around the crease. The Knights will fling it down. Bard on the hold and it’s bounced off a Knight. X is out of zone. Bard slows up. Fires it down the distance. It will play it out. We’ll leave it on the back end for Theodore, but the Oilers hold it in zone. McDavid behind the net. One of the Oilers gets pushed. McDavid accelerating on the left side. Picked up now by the Knights as that pass was read and Mark Stone takes over. Bard sees this pass. That was too far for Eel. Off the near side, Darno Nurse can’t play it. McDavid can, but it was knocked away off a stick. All the way back is Evan Bushard who will pick it up. Mark Stone, a defensive dynamo and a long gritty a long time gritty vet in the NHL. Nurse squeeze it for Connor Brown as the third lines out there. Brown twisting and turning has his pocket picked by Brett Hen. Howen leads it over to the far corner. Wman arrives there first. Out in front it is Henrik. Adam Henrik moves this one across for Tre Frederick. Took an early penalty for the Oilers. He’ll point it out onto the near corner. He chips it away held by Frederick at the right point. Frederick holds one. Double deflection and it was kicked out by Hill. Got a piece on the side. Here’s Brown bouncing puck hit the side of the cage. Brown keeps it alive onto the far boards. There was nobody there. Riley Smith chopped it away at it and it bounced on to the near quarter for John Quingberg who will leave it for Jake Wman. Wman slows up, grabs a hold of this puck and leaves it on for the way out the middle. Just takes a bounce. Hill will play it out around the boards for Hannathan. Nan Hopkins arrives there for the near side. Oilers try to keep the nice chop it out. up the neutral zone. Fire to the far corner. First one back is Kool-Ass right out in front. This doesn’t get any chance. Here’s Hurdle. And this one rang off of the post and out of play. 717 to go here in this first period, but a better job by Vegas to knock these loose pucks away. Brett Hen sees it approaching Connor Brown and is able to defend that one as Brown he takes he gets a deflection but it bounced off of Nick Hey skate that one deflected wide on that chance. This face off goes to the far corner and the Oilers want to move this up the far side the ice. They do but this is Noah Hannipan will play this one through and Brett Kulak who protects the puck up at the far side the ice. Edmonton tied up that allows Vegas to walk with this one back in their own zone. A shove towards the pony box doors on Olson is fired down side. Pickard out of his crease with way up to the far out boards. Outlet pass and this gets moved back for Bard up front. Here is Nan Hopkins with Hyman rank wide. Here is Nurse who’ll fire this one. Stopped by Hill. Comes loose out in front. Hill covers up the rebound. 649 United player in the opening frame and Hill stares down his competition and those golden jerseys for the Knights like that for them and I like the decision that they made that those are their primary jerseys and a good chance for Darno Nurse to deliver one. No rebound was left behind for Zack Heyman to be available. He holds the record for the most goals in a single postseason in the salary cap era was 16 which bested the record set by Alexkin in 2018. 649 to go in the first period and for the left circle this base off bounced up and cleared out by the Knights. made his way near the Oiler bench. Grabbed by Nurse Arnold Nurse watched by Mark Stone. Moved it up the middle to the neutral zone. The Oilers are moving it back inside. Henrik holds up. Millers back onto the point. Here’s Evan Bushard. What’s one go for this one wide swept away by Barbashev who swore for Eeko. Here’s a twoon one. He has Mark side. Eiko wakes up firing and that would not go. And that was perfectly set up. Eel had the trailer option available for him and there was nothing out of that one with speed. The Oilers they get back of Eichel slowing up takes a bounce off the stick. I believe that that was Evan Bshard who knocked away the shot from Shay Theodore. He saved what could have been a goal. Nice job by Bushard to break up that Theodore scoring opportunity. He’ll get some pass from his teammate blocking that five free shots in favor of Edmonton off the tie up. It comes over to the far circle and this is the Knights grabbing onto this one. Right point kept it in deep. Kasar in pursuit. Tied up by Wman. Nick Wah was there. This one stickked away. W tried to evade the pressure from the near half boards. It got out for Pearson. Bell swad on Pickard. Pearson kept the inside. Kasar for Petranelo. Petrano flanks one back deep. Here’s Kasar walks along. Kasar bottom of the left circle. Brought it back out, but the Oilers are over that. Back onto the neutral zone. Controlled by Vegas. Walking back inside. Kasar firing. And that would bounce off Pickard out of play with 531 to go here in the opening frame. So it’s been a defensive game, but one can imagine defensive games would more often than not benefit the Golden Knights. We’ll be back here from Las Vegas with the closing 531 here in the first period. So the recent news here Ian is that Anthony Stolars is not traveling with the Leafs on their way to Miami Fort Lauderdale for games three and four. So it’s going to be Joseph Wall who will be starting in net for the Leafs in those two road games. But Wall made 25 saves in the 4-3 win in game two. [Music] Interesting. Stolar he stolars was knocked out in game one off an elbow to the head from Sam Bennett. No penalty was called and no supplemental discipline was handed down. That’s a huge yikes. That is a huge yards. Good lord. And on watching the two LFR videos, whether people like Steve Dangle or not, he’s been knocking on the he’s been ringing the alarm bells about the Department of Player Safety, George Perils, and Colin Cample this whole time. Yeah. And it’s quite obvious that they’re not doing enough. I mean, this is a goalie. I wouldn’t be bad enough for any player, but this is a goalie getting elbow. You’re telling me nothing? That’s a bad look for the NHL as a whole. And not only them, but the Panthers. That’s a bad look for them, but also a bad look for the NHL. Yikes. That is a big yikes. Back here, Las Vegas. What is Henrik and Carlson? The two third lines matching over one another. Six to one are the scoring chances in favor of the Golden Knights. Henrik is tossed out. That’s going to get Trent Frederick the Oilers trade deadline acquisition from Boston via New Jersey in the free team trade. Uh taking this face off. Frederick wins the draw. Comes back over to Emerson who fires this one deep and out right nearby Hill. Oh, see this one go wide of him and it’s iced. So, I will not be So, I’ll be taking a day off tomorrow. Saturday. Okay, Saturday. Odd to see which one I’ll cover between these two series. It’s going to be an interesting docket as this face off is won by the Knights again. grabbed to the left point and then set across back into the right circle and this shot is blocked picked up by Connor Brown. The Oilers moving it through backhanded in deep all the way down the near corner as Petrangelu walked in one to the far corner. All of a sudden had this clear attempt intercepted as the Oilers keep it inside for the moment. Whitequ picks it up. Zack White tried to play behind. Brown was there. Henrik gets his one to the point. Kak rebound in front. broken on fire at home after there was a stick check in tight. Son flings it around. Emerson there to hold him at bay. Henrik on his backand towards the near corner as the Knights are trying to hold the zone here for the near halfs. The Oilers pick it up and Drip Frederick slam towards the pony box doors. Oh my goodness. And here are the Knights holding on to this puck. They’ll backtrack. Shane Theodore gets this down the middle. And here’s another chance here for Vegas is Riley Smith. He gets tied up by two Oilers with Brett Howard and also there. Bard takes it away. Evan Bousard up the far side to Leon Dryidle. McDavid sets up at the near side. Conor McDavid looks back for Evan Bousard. Mc Bushard backhands one off to the left circle. His pass bounced off of Carlson and held inside in the zone. Here is a one-on-one chance. Hyman half spins. gets dispossessed by Carlson who has been out there for a long time. He’s got to be gassed and now the Knights will move it up for the middle across the line. Stone gets bumped and the Oilers take it away and here is a twoon two. Hyman wrist one well wide the crease collected at the right point by Ryan Nent Hopkins who keeps it in. Hey can’t back this one down but is held at the far half boards by Vander Kane almost dispossessed at the right corner. K is tied up by Hey, jumping on his R&H. Hyman reaches out. Heyman, nobody at the low slot. Stone chips it out and Eel on this given go can’t deliver it down as Picker plays it out onto the far half boards. Held inside by the nice. Here’s Eichel. Touch pass. Here’s Hatovan almost inside. Hovan walks in. Stopped by Picker. Rebound in front and that one did not have any room. Hatterivan can’t find anything and Victor Arbertson will take it up for the far side the ice. The Oilers take it in but can’t do much with that. Eichel plays it out the other way. Jack Eel up the far side. Moved it over to the near corner for Kasar. Kick and Kasar towards the point. Hannneathan bounced over to the far corner. Pearson held this one inside. Nurse tangled him up right behind that centering pass. Gets knocked away. There’s a broken stick on the ice as this bounced up. The Oilers play up the near side. Arbertson can’t play it out. Here’s Pearson. Pearson who is tangled up the left side. Edmonton gets it out just in time. Noah Hannifan ring wide for Zack Whitecloud up the middle almost deflected. Excellent defense there by the Golden Knights. He’ll block that pass up. Harry re-enters. Final 10 seconds down deep and over the near corner. Had it ties his man up. John Quameber shot one right off of Hill out inside a second chance. Bounc it stayed out. And that is a very eventful first period of play. The Knights one- nothing here after 20. They’re 4-1 this postseason when scoring first. They lost game one of this series, but the Oilers, they know to spot anyone when trailing from behind. And Connor Brown was so close. They’re tying this game up, but it bounced off the crossbar and stayed out. And as such, the Oilers are continuing to search for their first goal this game. I am Al Gav here by Ian Genji. We’ll be right back as we are in the first intermission. Oh my goodness. What a period. Agreed. So, we’ve already gone over the hurricanes and Capitals game pretty much. Uh there ain’t much to say from the little bit I saw. Logan Thompson win Godmo again and the Capitals flip the script. This time around they’re the aggressors and gain the chances. Game one was all Carolina in this one. Washington was the more opportunistic team and they got the necessary chances they had. They they were outshot again but by after two periods they had the shot advantage 16-11 Carolina 17 shots in that third but this was not a game in which Carolina got goalie it was far from the case and here yeah we mentioned about stolarts and Meanwhile, in the other side of things on the coaching cycle, Mike Sullivan, the new head coach of the New York Rangers, has a lot of priorities coming his way. This team missed the playoffs last season and comes a year after winning the President’s Trophy. But the first order of business, Ian, on Rangers Town is communication. He is the 30th coach in franchise history and the fifth since 2018. So that’s one of the priorities for coach Sullivan at New York. And in I know for the fact that Sullivan is the former bench boss of the Penguins, but he showed he is still an elite head coach and his time with the US US national team showed that. It’s not really the same old same old. in New York. And while the looming questions still answer along he spent four years as a so he funnily enough he he’s back on the the team where he spent four years as an assistant coach under John Tordella. They also coached Kurt Rangers president and general manager Chris Drury at that time and they worked together for USA hockey at the foreign nations faceoff. Both of them will be part of the 2026 brass for the Olympics. All right. Sorry about that. Something something came up something came up while I was uh here at my station. But I am I am very excited with what’s happening in the Olympics coming up. If it’s anything like the Four Nations, it’s set to be a action-packed. Oh yeah, it’s a best on best tournament. But real quick though, in other sports, uh, the Wolves are looking to be taking game two of the Western Conference semifinals. And switching over real quick again to baseball, I want to talk about my hometown team real quick, the Kansas City Royals. About a week and a half ago, This team was 8 and4. They are now 23 and 16. They have won 15 of their last 17 games, Alec, and are one of the only teams this season with six plus shut or five plus shutout victories. An impressive turnaround by the Royals. I also want to give a shout out to the to our good friend and John and his Detroit Tigers. They as as they’re on a tear as the top team in the AO Central. They are what we call a team of destiny. I do not see them breaking their stride at all. And they will, I am not ashamed to say that unless something unless something happens to drastically change their theirh core makeup, they will take the division and possibly the American League over the Yankees and over the Mar, you know, over the East and over the West. They will take that they will take the conference. They’re on their way as such. And that AO Central as a the AO Central saw three playoff teams last year. This year they’re showing that it is no fluke at all as we wonder what in the world is happening to the Baltimore Orioles. Um, I can answer I can answer that question. I can answer that question. What happened is they went from one of the best pitching rotations in the league last year to that boasting dinosaurs. Instead of Corbin Burns, you have old veteran Charlie Morton among others. And as a result, their pitching has suffered and their bats have regrets to the point where bad pitching is the death blow. Adleyman not not hitting as much as he should. Mount Cassel still inconsistent. And and the list goes on. Their GM was arrogant. So arrogant in the off season because they were sure that their roster was strong enough to contend without Corbin Burns, not realizing Corbin Burns was the only reason, apparently the only reason that they were in contention. the reason they made the playoffs. And if you look in the last year’s playoffs, they got swept in the wild card by yours truly. And their and their best hitter so far in this in this season for the Orioles is Ryan O’Harn with a 305 batting average. I can tell you all about that guy, too. former Royal came up in the Royal system, I believe, and he bounced back after he left Kansas City. He should not be your best hitter, especially on a roster with the likes of Adley Rutman, Gunner Henderson, Jackson Holiday, although he was going off the he was going off a little bit the last time the Royals played him. Sed I mean Ryan Mount Castle is home run or bust at this point but you know what I mean with a but it all goes back to pitching. I mean their bullpen is excellent but their starting pitching never keeps a lead for them to look that good. And Zack Ewin isn’t really panning out. Well, he’s injured when he’s when he was on the bump. He’s been okay, but he hasn’t pitched all season. That hurts them. That does hurt them. What also hurt them is, okay, you don’t get Corbin Burns. The problem is they got way too cute with their they got way too cute with their with his replacement. I mentioned Charlie Morton, but there’s also an old picture from the um um I think it’s called the KBL. Maybe not the Tavio, but um um a picture a picture with the last name Sugano or or name is pronounced Sugano, but he’s not a spring chicken either. He’s got decent stuff, but not enough to last an entire MLB season. That’s not looking good for Baltimore at all. No. And of course, you know what? While we’re at it, let’s go ahead and talk about it. The White Socks are bad. Uh, the Rockies are even wor bad. Bad isn’t even a word that we describe the Rockies. No. And it gets even worse, Alec, because they are in the exact same position as the White Socks were last season. Are you familiar with h are you familiar with the rules and regulations of the draft lottery? They can’t even pick top 10 at the draft. No, they can only they can only go up to 10. There’s a difference. But the Rockies are in the same boat. I think the White Socks can now break into the top 10 again. But but the Rockies, I mean, you look at their roster, their biggest trade asset is a reliever named Greg Bird, who’s decent, but that’s all they have. Hermon Hermad Marquez fallen off. He He hasn’t just fallen off the cliff. He did the Jeff Hardy Swanton bomb off of the cliff and upon impact blew up his Alec. Oh my goodness. This scene. Hang on. How much? Okay, we got a little over five minutes. So, I’ll look this up for you to give you an idea for for everyone who may or may not understand baseball. In [Music] baseball, there’s a stat called earn run average or erra. That is how many runs That is how many runs you give up in a game on average. And through or through nine innings, I should say through nine innings. Herman Marquez, the star pitcher for the Rockies, an 0 and6 record this season with a 9.90 erra. And that’s somehow even worse than Kyle Freeland’s 0 and5 6.41 ERA. Yeah. Keep in mind that there was a time where Kyle Freeland and Roman Marquez were biting for the they were biting for the Sai Young and oh and let’s als and this is kind of a annual occurrence at this point but there’s also the fact that Chris Bryan is injured again. Someone free him. Free him. Free the I mean, dude. And there there isn’t a there isn’t a way to describe what they need to do other than as my buddy put it, they need to sell the team. They need to they need to blow up their executive plan branch, blow up the roster, blow up the farm system and start from scratch at this point. At this point, blow up the name too because there’s nothing that can fix the current iteration of the rockets. No, there’s absolutely nothing. There’s just that bad of a team. I wouldn’t say it was going to get better Rockets fans. It never does. It won’t. I mean, there’s there isn’t there is not a manager that can come in and and help the Rockets. Why do you think, if I’m looking at this, if I’m remembering correctly, they’ve had the same manager for I think since the early two since the mid 2000s. Um, was it Bud Black? Yep. Bud Black. He’s been the manager for them since 2000. Oh, never mind. since 2017. So, it was a little bit later than I thought. Oh my. But he’s been there for eight years. And honestly, I can’t say I can’t say that he is at fault here. Yes, he’s at fault. But I mean, Alec, what do you do? There’s not much you can do here if you’re the Rockies. Well, it’s like but but what else are you gonna do when you’re We are all very familiar with [Music] the with the with the adage of of bad owners. We know what a bad owner looks like. An o that doesn’t get talked about enough is Dick Montford in the national circles and how much of a disgrace he is to the game of baseball big time people talk about Bob Nutting this and I know Derek Shelton got fired I’ll say hallelujah note my sarcasm in my voice because Bob Nutting is still the team owner but Dick Mom is it has to be up there as one of the worst owners of sports, not just baseball, all of sports. Yes. You know, as much as you know, as much as we as we all rightfully criticize the likes of Jerry Rinorf and Bob Nutty, here’s the thing about Jerry Rinstorf. He has a World Series to his name. Albeit, it is the flukiest one of the flukiest World Series that ever shows up on Pro Baseball Reference or MLBreerence.com, but it’s there. Bob Nutty, none. Dave Mford has never come close. Well, that’s not true. There was 2007. Oh, looks like we’re back. Well, 2007. Well, to speak of that, I which has me perplexed. Why is he still here? Because because for all that theme between Denver sports when you look at the other sports usually they’re or those sports teams are owned by either a Walton or I’m going to bomb it in my mouth for saying this a crunky because the Waltons own the Broncos but the crunkies they own the Avalanche and Nuggets. I’m not sure who owns the Colorado Mammoth. That’s the National Lacrosse League team in Denver. So, we’re coming back here for this second period. Olivesson had his first career playoff goal. In the first period, this game is his sixth career playoff game. As we talk about players making their playoff debuts, he is filling in the absence of Pavle Dorf. The Knights will start out with the Jack Eeko line with him, Mark Stone, and Ivan Barbesev. The Oilers counter with Reander Kane right to Hopkins and Zack Hyman. Let’s go as we’re underway here in the second period. Off the right side. This is a bouncing puck. The Oilers grab it down. Nurse up the near side. This bounced up off of Kane. It’ll be grabbed by Vegas. They’ll try to move this one up. Eichel swiped it once and twice. Powering to the inside. Dak Eel gets forced out pass gets knocked away. Nurse Ritz back onto the near side. He’ll fire one towards Hill who will cover it up. So early Vegas is attacking with a purpose is Gwen Gatson, the assistant coach of the Oilers, former head coach of the Calgary Flames. They want to get into the flow offensively and to the Oilers that is. They need to get onto that flow and then make the make the Golden Knights pay or not take advantage of their chances as the McDavid and dry side line are on the ice in the first 903. The goal differential for the Oilers minus two shots on goal seven scoring chances too the rest of the game plus four goal differential 21 shots on goal 14 scoring chances they average 4.43 24 free goals per game in the playoffs. The most in the league and this one turned over to Vegas. Off the far side bouncing towards behind the net. Carlson got tied up. Cory Perry picks it up. Connor Brown all over the ice as a defensive minded forward as he swept swoop away some he was swiping away some pucks gathering rebound chances and hustling towards each play he had he came close to scoring first but he generated take he is generating takeaways as a defensive minded forward being active on the for check each and every play he’s out there on the ice it’s four goals this postseason tied for the team leading Lingberg up the far side for Brown. Now up the middle taking you up now. It is Nurse who stays out there for the far corner. Kane puts the pressure on this forche and the night Knights will take it away on this back end. Zack White down the middle for Sad and now Hurdle for the right point. fires his one around from the far corner. Kagan Kolasar gets met by John Quingberg and Queenberg sticks the puck away from him around to the near side. Arno nurse left it out for Vasley Pod Ken Coen set it backward the Queenberg Queenberg can’t get it out and the nice keep it in. This shot bounced up comes back onto the left side around the net as the Oilers close south the net front. Here’s Patrangelo fire from deep. Never made his way onto the crease as it was blocked. But Kosen lost it out as if Nick Wahoo re-enters. Wah gets bumped. Gets his own dump in at the near corner. Wah looked like he got to stick up as he might have high sticks. One of the Oilers and it’s going to be a high sticky penalty for him. Two minutes for high sticking as Nick Wah got got the stick up high into the face of Darno Nurse and that is a penalty once and then twice equipped them. So the Oilers on their first power play of the game. They’re going to get to work here. Both teams thrive on the man advantage. They’re 515 this postseason. were 0 for2 in game one though so they were 5-13 in the series against the Kings 130 career playoff points for Conor McDavid is most dangerous when Edmonton’s on the power play of course he had the usual five out there sends Hyman as he is replaced by Perry on the top unit I stone Petrangelo McNab to counter off the face off dry side wins the drawar walks along west side Nan Hopkins gets this one down for McDavid. That was Riley Smith rather. But there was a transition opportunity the other way for Riley Smith as the Oilers. They were blanked on that power play. Several opportunities. Perry can’t do a wheel around wrist wheel shot tried to do a little too much as Wah right out the box. Saw that William Carlson got closed off. Instead goes to Riley Smith. Alex engage with you. We’ll return in a moment. And yes, as the time keeps winding down, it appears the Minnesota Timberwolves will get the game two victory at their home court at Target Center. They’re up by 21 in the final two minutes of the fourth quarter. And good news for the T-Wolves, Anthony Edwards did come back into the game and managed to finish it with 20 points on 34 minutes. Seven of 13 shooting and Jada McDaniels with 16 points that so the state of hockey getting it done in basketball. An interesting plot twist here in Minnesota. So, no curry probably a problem for the Warriors. As Jimmy Butler is getting up there of age, they wonder how much juice is left of him. So we as we get back here from Las Vegas and we wonder how much momentum the Knights are going to get here out this middle frame. So far they’ve got most of this momentum as they are gain the energy away from Edmonton. Jack IQ company responding to a game one collapse. The Oilers have played from behind in each and every one of their games. They lost their first two games of the postseason. They have won their next five in cover behind fashion. Calvin Picker great patience this time around was get and Picker gets beat up high on the first try. This time Pickard reads the play and catches up to it. It’s a lane open. Ring White taking a three on two and is an angry clapper right off of Nurse and out of play were stopped by Hill. So Darno Nurse fight an angry clapper on a threeon two. Not often do you see that happening around as nurse goes for change and Edmonton tried to tie it up. It was a power play goal midway through the first period. In postseason action, the Golden Knights are 2 and 0 in overtime. The Oilers 1-0 in overtime. We have not reached that point yet though. Let’s face off to the right of Aiden Hill. It’ll be won by the Golden Knights. Right behind it is McNav. Up the far side, centering passes to go and Vegas will deflect this one to the far corner. Picker tried to play it out and he played onto danger right behind the net. The Golden Knights tried to capitalize as Pickers back on his crease from the near corner. This bounced up. Carlson held inside. That pass broke it up and it’ll be a souvenir getting this puck. No shots for the Oilers in nearly 10 minutes on goal. Jack Eel, Mark Stone almost getting the Knights on the board on their second power play opportunity. I wish they would have capitalized in, but it says a one- nothing Vegas lead when we come back. So this the final score 11793 Timber Wolves win. All right. And as far as I know, Curry is likely to be out for a week. That’s the official news. Yeah. Which means he’ll miss this game and very likely game three. possibly game four. Yep. They they know that he is their leader and the and the and the spark that keeps this team together. And for all the talk about playoff Jimmy, people hype up playoff Jimmy so much, but so far that moment hasn’t just that moment just hasn’t come for Jimmy. Yeah. Yeah. I’m not impressed. I mean, You know, this was supposed to be the breakout moment for him, but it just never materialized. Probably age may do that to him. Yeah. Yeah. He’s 35. And not to mention the the Warriors core is old. This is by far the oldest playoff team in the league. Yeah. And the fact of the matter is Seth is trying to carry this by himself. He He won’t. No, it’s it’s just not sustainable. So, as we come back here, there’s that Stanley Cup championship banner right next to the Vegas Strong banner to honor the lives that were lost on that night at Las Vegas. They That’s why they retired to number 58. So in game one, the Golden Knights were limited just one shot in the second period. So we’re back underway here. 62 to Sean advantage in favor of Vegas here in game two. Rebound chance and that did not was sailed over the net over the far side. This is sealed up. Noro Nurse picks it up at the near corner. Nurse ring quiet pass that bounced off a referee. The Golden Ice look to move it up with Brett Howen. Howen a cast off from the New York Rangers and up the near side. This gets bounced up. McDavid gloves it down over the dry side. There was a tangle up and it comes back for McDavid at center ice. He’ll fire on the farboards. Ride the near corner. This battle is won by Theodore who sweeps it out. Picked up by the Oilers with Bousard. Back deep is Nurse. There are no nurse selected for Bousard. Bard moving up the far side around one of the Knights. Now this rink wide pass goes for poten. Possen around for the near quarter. Grab to the far half boards as the fourth points out there. Possen Wman scores. The Oilers have tied it. And it’s Jake Wman, the former Detroit Red Wing, who leads the Golden Knights right into an oil slick on the one-time at the top of the right circle through a screen in front. I don’t think this bounced off of any stick. And Wman uses Kasar as a screen. This is a shot that bounced off of McNab’s leg. And with that good look, Wman scores his first career playoff goal in his ninth playoff game. His only other playoff experience was just one game with the St. Louis Blues in 2021. That wasn’t a That wasn’t a fourame sweep to the Colorado Avalanche. Wman gets the tying goal for the Oilers. Mostly a defensive defenseman, but can chime with his fair share of offense. Right behind the play onto the far boards as Vegas wants to get the lead back for themselves. They’ve outshot the Oilers here in the second period, but the Oilers have the goal where it matters. This one bounced off Pickard from the near corner. Grabbed by the Knights. And here’s Hurdle. Dom Hurdle wants to get it over towards the near side. Grabbed by Olivesson walking up high. Deep shot. There’s a broken stick on the ice. Believe it belongs to one of the Oilers. Vegas keeps it inside and it goes over to Hurdle. Hurdle fires. That’s why the crease. Hecker may have got a piece though. Comes back to Alex Petrangelo. Petrangelo Olson will drop again. Petrangelo holds his own. Petrangelo going around the horn and Henrik got to stick up to the way up the near boards on the re-entry. Too far there for Tanner Pearson up the near side. Nurse circling around off the near side. This pass gets chipped away off Yanmark. Pot Coen out there onto the ice. Possen dropped it off onto the right circle and close again is Quainberg who gets closed off by Kasar. Hey trying to stick it away. Yanmark keeping it inside. Arbitson back towards the point. It’s Wman staying out there. Wman deep shot. Bounced off in front. High slot towards the left circle. Here’s Arvbitson. Gets it down low. slowly makes his way to Hill and he covers up. And a chance here for Vegas was on the loose puck off sticks as Victor Olson kept in his zone. Tomas Hurdle stretched it out, tried to aim far side on the top right corner, but couldn’t do so. Scoring chances 12-4 Vegas. tied at one a piece with Jake Walman ning the tying gold trade deadline acquisition for the Oilers one of two alongside Trent Frederick and he is known for the gritty yes he is I wonder if if he does score a playoff overtime winner will he do the gritty as a celebration in the playoffs I would say yes. So, it’s Evander Kane taking the face off. He wins it, but Nent Hopkins can’t get a shot off. Walman to Queenberg. They’ve been out there for a long time. This puck deflects on to Hill and you can assume that Wman and Queenberg will take their changes as it was Zack Hyman who deflected it. No traffic at the front of the net and Hill continues to stand tall in the crease. It’s still the second line out there with Evander Kane, Ryan Nan Hopkins, and Zack Hyman. The ELO line counters the second line. The Oilers 12 to 11. The shots on goal as the Oilers go another but it comes to Stone. Mark Stone leads the other way. Lift it out through center. The Oilers back in their own zone as it’s Wman who is protecting the puck away from Eel. Wman got it up but it’s kept inside by stone. Mark Stone tried to center rink wide pass. Did it make his way through the crease as cannot be held inside by white cloud over rink wide for Hannah as the Knights wait patiently trying to break it across but offside by a country mile was barbership. Now what he want to do is I want to set up the chance down the middle. Carlson’s line gets back out there. It’ll be him, Riley Smith, and Brett Hen for Vegas. That’s the third line and countering is the McDry line. McDavid toss out. Dry Cidle will enter in these two with Cory Perry was taking this Zack Hyman roll on this top line. It’s been going nicely there. Ray Quay Theodore the Oilers with five straight comeback wins to make it six straight. They’re going nice trying to spoil that left point kept inside the left circle. Too many Oilers there. Moving to the far side is McDavid. 13 points this postseason for McDavid. tied for second in the NHL. The only ahead of him is a man who had back-to-back hat-ticks in playoff games, Miko Rantin. Fired down the near side, collected by Braden McNab from the far corner. And this is going to be ice. McNab tried to find the stretch pass but could not do so. Brett Kolak was the first one back. Brett Hen was the intended recipient of that pass. Could there be a go-ahead goal here for the oil or is there response here for the Knights? So Jay Fodor skated across getting a little physical and testy with this puck m as Mcoro he took away McDavid’s time and space to not get the Oilers to set up on that chance. McDavid to take the draw. Carlson wins it and the Knights will shoot this one around for the far boards. It’s bounced up, kept inside. Nobody behind the net. Theodore the first one back. Jayfield brace himself or hit from Cory Perry who still in pursuit the puck held inside the right point by Evan Bard. Knights pick it up with William Carlson. This bounced off the point and it swept up through center and here’s a chance here for the Knights and a sharp angle shot was stopped by Pickard through the near corner. Riley Smith trying to tangle up his man comes out for Dryidle. Dryidle advances ahead now the middle. Right side played out by Hill for his far side. Hey sticks his one to the near side for Carlson down the middle weaving his way for his Tanner Pearson. Big save by Pickard. Back door Tanner Pearson and the Oilers will play this one up front. Pod Coen leads the way up the far side. Pod Ken he’ll stop and drop by and this one bounce off Hills crease and the Knights will play this one out. This is another rolling puck picked up by Quingberg. John Quingberg at the far corner. Set up Victor Harbertson. And this is on the doorstep for the Oilers. We get down to high spot. Pacos scores. Bas Kosen. The fourth line gets it done once again for the Oilers. won a tournament events here at the Sin City as the Oilers go up in front trailing in every one of their games. It was a big save by Calvin Pickard at the Oiler end of the ice and then back the other way is Victor Arson set it up sets up a twoon two Posen goes swap and finds a quick wristster. That is one that Hill wanted to have back. It is 2-1 Edmonton with 442 left in the second period. And it’s a it’s a game full of first career playoff goals. As the theme continues onwards, Pat Coulson nets his first career playoff goal on which Wman and Olivesson did the same thing. Two players tackle one another as this puck comes up for center and a stoppage here. I believe there’s going to be somebody going off to the penalty box. Brandon Sad went down, but the theme of first career playoff goals continues. First it was Olivesson. Next it was Walman and now it is poten. 2-1 Oilers with 425 to go in the second period. We’ll be right back. Well then, yeah. Well, then cuz this is a t twist and turn as the Oilers, they can catch anyone with a lead. No lead is safe and they are the masters of catching teams off guard. There they are. And the the former kuck gets on the board and oh my and it is a brand new hockey game right here. But we have to get more more over the over the intermission because we it just got the because I talked with Owen otherwise know Red Box about this yesterday about the Utah Mammoth logo. Honestly, that was always going to be the team name once the Yeti was taken away. Yep. The Knights had so many opportunities to cash in and Calvin Pickard has played hero here so far in this second period and he’s bailed out the Oilers time and time. The fourth line getting it done. Tanner Pearson, Ivan Barbashev, Riley Smith, Victor Olson are all hoing to hanging their heads up wondering why oh why are their shots not falling through? So if one in your Vegas, you’re get you’re getting styi by stop after stop. The Oilers lead 2-1. 14 shots for the Golden Knights and most of them come from dangerous areas as we have a false start in the faceoff. A lot of their shots are came from dangerous areas. The slot is where it’s most dangerous. They’re getting slat chances. They are getting back stopped every time. Two goals and 347 for the Oilers. 14-12 the shots on goal in favor of the Knights. And the Oilers win the face out thanks to Evander Kes. Bounces up at center ice. Ry Hopkins takes it in. Hopkins want to set up. Car crash at the net. And we have the most predictable outcome out of this one as players white to go at each other’s throats. 416 to go in the second period as somewhere in that pile is Evander Kane. We’ll see how it counts out this one as Barbashev, Nan Hopkins, Eel Kane, Hannneathan Hyman were all on that scuffle. I believe there will be roughing penalties here assessed as the assessments are going to be made by Francis Chiron and Gourd Dwire. Kyle Mercer and Jesse Marque have to separate the two of them as Kane is going to the box. If you think it’s going to be four on four as Kane I think is going to get penalized two miss for goender interference and I believe there’s going to be a roughing m we’ll get the call from gourd two minutes for roughing on Zack Whitecloud we knew it was going to be a four on it was going to be we knew it was going to be four on four so the so Evander came for goalender fear. Zack Whitecloud for roughing and we know that’s a retaliation penalty for White Cloud. I know is both causes white is jamming at Kane’s throat and the officials knew that you cannot do that. The McDavid and Dry Cidle are on the ice and you know four on four benefits the Oilers a lot because when these are on the ice you expect fireworks to be lit for the Oilers. 416 to go here. Second period this face off won by the Knights. Back deep and right behind the crease as they’re looking to break out. This looks to be a twoon two as here’s Eel moving up the far side. Ekeel with Bard watching him. Eel trying to break free. Beor setting up at the right circle in front and that could not be fired of a hole by Carlson and this gets winded deep by the Oilers and they’ll restart. Darno Nurse will start up here for Edmonton. Nurse taking his one side. Rder Kak dropping back for Bard as McDavid walking the point. Dry Cidle circling the point around to the far side. Rice Cidle watches the outside. Dry side skates around still holding on to this one for the left circle back out to the point. McDavid and then fighting Kolak or I got the order wrong though. McDavid wants to find Rice Cidle has him for the far half boards boxed out rank wide for Roshard. Roshard for McDavid. McDavid holds onto it. McDavid stumbled onto it but still keeping it down deep is Didle. Dryidle wants to come out with this one. McDavid Nardo nurse one timer. Bard blocked in front. Bchar holds onto it. This is not a power play, but the Oilers are operating like one. McDavid down low. Bo Didle that went off the outside of the cage. Dry Cidle will cycle this one around for McDavid. That pass broken up and the Knights cycled back deep. Take taken away by the Oilers. Two on two as they roll back. Dry Cidle over Skate the puck but manages to keep the zone. And here’s Nurse SW scores. Dardo nurse and as I said with the Oilers four on four that goes to advantage and it’s three to one. Well, um, gone from a game to a whoop. We don’t know that for yet for sure, but so far the Oilers are putting on a clinic here in the second half of the second period. The first period was all Vegas. It is the sixth career playoff goal. Three unanswered for the Oilers as nurse for the high swap. Gets this deep and he’s back into the zone here again. This time Hill said enough. And we have one of the Knights going down the Vegas tunnel. We don’t know exactly who, but we’re going to monitor the injury situation as Vegas had to lead one- nothing, but as I said time and time again, no lead is safe. So far, it’s one goal as a mis coverage entirely from Vegas, who is normally a top defensive team in the NHL, but that’s not been the case here in this postseason. Slight advantage for the Oilers and shots on goal 15 to 14. Hyman keeps it in. Hyman through the near quarter. Hyman tried to move this one around up to the far corner gets taken away by Hannathan. We’re back to five on five. And here’s Evander Kane who watches this one fly for Carlson up inside. Carlson picks it up. Carlson waits from the far corner. The nice looking and this pass intercepted intended for Carlson. Full on through down the far corner. Picked up by Petrangelo. Alex Petrangelo gets bumped. Sends one deep onto the line. Eeko back. Jack Eeko looks at the top of the right circle. Eeko scores. William Carlson on the deflection. Vegas gets one back. Okay. No, this is just a heavyweight boxing match with both with both teams throwing blow after blow. It’s not a woman to fight. And this fight continues onwards as I go at the initial shot for the top of the right circle. Carlson presents his stick. It changed direction as Pickard. He is calling that this was a high stick. This wasn’t even close to a high stick. It was deflected down deep and it beats picker five hole. Didn’t even see this wood coming towards him. 150 to play in the second and Carlson gets one back with his second goal this postseason and and time after the nurse goal to onegoal game again as has been after the first period. Hurdle gets tossed out the draw. Bruce Cassie made the change to put William Carlson next to Jack Eel as Hill plays it out. Alexandel under siege held inside by the Oilers. Back off to the right point. Walking along. Here’s Kak. Deep shot. Hill under siege and shoved was Matias Yanark as Hill covers up. 148 to go as Yamark was hounded. They’re trying to keep the situation monitored. about the about the Vegas injury situation. We don’t know who has gone down the tunnel. We have now just gotten confirmation about who has left the Vegas bench. That is Brandon Sad who has walked down the night’s tunnel being evaluated for an injury. We’re going to monitor his status later down the line. The Oilers win this face off. Dry side on another shot. Hill made the stop. 133 to go here. So as we continue counting here. So this is the the Oilers bird goal is SW shots from this is SWAT at the and turnovers here at their own zone. The Knights turn it over. The Oilers pick it up with Jake Wman being in the midst of that and then the the Knights counter with a deflection goal. Eel’s initial shot. William Carlson deflected it. 30 career playoff goals for Wild Bill the most in the Golden Knights young franchise history. Face off is to the right of Hill. Wai Vegas and Braden McDow will take it up the far side. The Knights know a thing or two about comebacks. They’re a strong third period team. Eichel moves up the far side. Carlson tried to weave his way inside. Carlson shut down a rebound. Pickers out of his crease. That was Barb rather. And this one sent down the ice. Race for the puck. Screw it away by McNab. But keep it is McDavid. McDavid lost it. And the ice will go back the other way. Chance for a breakout. McDavid got back on time. Conor McDavid going back with this with Mark Stone drilling him. Facing on his forehead behind for Wman. Jake Walman steps up, gets by up by Barbashev and sets it down the ice and everyone heads out for a change. Arbertson tried to sweep it away while going down to his feet. Knights take it up with Keegan Kolasar out on the far side. Knights can roll out all four lines. The Oilers have learn have also learned that they can also run through all four lines with time. from the near side whistle here for an offside or actually it was played by high stick. 32 seconds left. So with sod out of the equation they had to insert Ivan Barbashev on the second leg to hurdle. In the third period this postseason the Oilers have outscored their opponents 17-6. When you narrow that down to the last five games they scored 12 of 13 in the third period. The plus 11 goal differential is the best by any team in the final period. How overpowered is that? Uh very overpowered. To the tune of a 2.43 third period goals per game in the postseason. They are absolutely relentless. From the near corner, Kool-A batted down by Kane. White crowd on the hold for Wah. Wah spins around this bounce down deep right behind the crease where Kool-A ties up his man. Brett Kool-A one Nick Wah with 5 seconds. Wah brings a space. White crowd had to get one up in time. Picker the save and the horn sounds. No rebound and pushes shoving to end up the second period. We’ll see what penalties come out this one as there was a commotion afterwards, but everyone had to be separated to end off the second frame where the Oilers exit with a 32 lead. What a chaotic second period here. And Keegan Kasar in the midst of that Darno Nurse tackling Kasar in that scuffle as Pickard made a glove save. Good reaction save. The puck came out free and then chaos afterwards. But everyone makes their way to the locker rooms without any harm done. But the third period is where the Oilers are at their best this postseason. Ever since after game two against the Kings, they have locked things down, scoring 12 of 13 in the third. All right. So, as I said, as we go on to around towards the circles around the NHL, NBA, MO. So, we know about what Draymond Greed said about Steph Curry. He says, “He’s our leader.” and Curry told him, “I’ll be back.” But he never returned. But what we do know is that he’ll be back perhaps game four. Perhaps uh for Warriors fans sake, they better hope he’s there for game four. So I’ll tell you what, they don’t have the horses to come back three down 31. The fact that Houston did it is because they have such a young core of guys that they have energy to burn. The Warriors do not. Yep. As we know about the the Rockets, not many teams play zone defense against Curry’s Warriors, but the Rockets dare to do that and it worked out. So, there might be a blueprint. Yeah, let’s hope for the Timberwolves sake because that’s their only shot. Um, let me see. So really gone over the NBA, the NHL, looked at the MLB, you know, overall, I mean, NFL wise, the only thing that’s really being tracked is is uh what will Aaron Rogers do? Oh, and and with George Pickkins being traded to the Cowboys, I have to say we paid the cancer tax to trade him away. DK Medcap wasn’t brought in to team up with him. The notion was that he’s replacing Pickkins at the wide receiver one role, and we need to hope that Roman Wilson emerges into the SWAT receiver that he was hyped up to be. Oh man, dude. Alec, I I gotta be real with you. Why does Pittsburgh continue to draft receivers with character concerns? Or they somehow draft wide receivers that turn into full tilt divas? AB chase Claypool to a lesser extent Guju and now Pickings. It’s I don’t get it, man. Me neither. But it turns out it’s been a recurring theme. and Mike Tomlin’s seeing is seeing all and Mike Tomwin and the and Mike Tomlin Omar Khan the front office seeing seeing the past has come back to light with Pickkins character issues they they said enough is enough down you go to Dallas well on one side we lose a talented receiver but on the other side it alleviates us of a headache Yeah. Look, I I still want George to succeed in the NFL. He’s a talented player and a talented deep threat, and I want to thrive, but please keep your head in check. No need for these weekly crash outs when you’re not getting the ball. Be a team player. And now that you’re joining a receiver core that has CD Lamb as part of it, that is your main priority. Keep your head cool. No need to be frustrated when the ball is not being thrown your direction. You’re high-end wide receiver, too, on Dallas now. And that’s how he treated you in Pittsburgh. But the Steelers saw you as a wide receiver one, but a low-end wide receiver one. You’re a wide receiver, too. I mean, Alec, it’s it is without a shadow of a doubt the it you know what really sealed it though, Cincinnati game, the Cincinnati game. But it was also the fact that I mean you could say his thing was sealed when he when in a game against the Commanders. I don’t know who the quarterback was, but the quarterback throws a pick. He could have easily tackled the quarterback instead. Instead, he just start instead he started throwing hands. That’s why I said be a team player. No need for crash outs when you have when the play is still going on after Russell Wilson threw a pick. Why? There’s no need for this. I I don’t know, man. I really don’t know. And still, we’re not sure if Aaron Rogers is going to join us or not, but nonetheless, I I still I still do not want him on the team. It’s going to be another headache, and we’ve dealt with headaches in the past. Yeah. on a funny on a actually, you know, on a on a on a more funnier note, we found out who the new pope is. It’s an American from Chicago. And you know what? We find out that he is truly worthy because he knows true suffering. Ladies and gentlemen, Pope Leo the 16th or no the 14th is in fact a Chicago White Socks fan. So he knows what it’s like to suffer. So Oh my good in sports. I feel bad for him knowing his fandom in in sport for sports because man. Well, if I do want to give a shout out, I will give a shout out to Villanova University. They are now the first school to have a national championship in basketball and have a pope. Wow. That’s You know what? They are the only that their clout will their clout will not be matched. I don’t know ever. I don’t know if another university can top that. Not even Duke or UNCC can top Villanova’s flexing of two national titles and a pope. Yeah. Yep. So, as this is, we What a moment here. The first American pope and Chicago has a pope before the Bears had a 4,000yard passer under center. That’s brutal. And we’re waiting to see if Caleb Williams can buck that trend. We hope so. This brutality defined. Oh, still going around the NHL. So, as we look at the Buffalo Sabres, they’ve hired another former Carolina Hurricane. Eric Stall is joining his former teammate Kevin Adams at the front office. These two were teammates in the 2006 Stanley Cup run for the Hurricanes. Stall is going to be involved in all aspects of the hockey department as a front office role as a special assistant to the general manager. So he retired after 18 NHL seasons two years ago. It’s a front office that features free assistant GMs Jason Carmanos, Mark Jaku Jakubowski, and Jerry Forton. Stall played 42 games for the Sabres in 21 before he was traded to the Montreal Canadians. But this hiring comes because Adams is having his seat get even warmer over his 5-year tenure. But the Sabres, they are riding an NHL record 14-year playoff drought. I Yeah, I don’t know. See, it for a lot of teams, it’s not easy to pinpoint what can truly fix a team. But for the Sabres, I mean, I truly have no idea what could possibly fix their team, you know, with with teams like the Sharks or the Blackhawks or the or the uh what do you call it? Or you know what? Or the Toronto Maple Leafs. You could say high draft picks, a different coach, a different GM, a different scheme with the Sabres. They’ve done all that multiple times over and still nothing sticks. Yeah, they do you remember that they once had Jack Eel, Ryan O’Reilly, and and just last year Sam Reinhardt. All three of them are Stanley Cup champions now. Eiko picked second overall. Reinhardt also second overall. O’Reilly wasn’t or an original draft pick by the Sabres, but he was acquired in a trade from the Avalanche. He won a Stanley Cup with St. Louis. It’s the the Sabres, it they’re just a cursed franchise and I don’t know what’s going to fix them. They do everything right on paper. They do everything right and yet it all backfires in the end. Yeah. By the way, Alec, remind me again, what did they give car what who did they give Carolina in the Jeff Skinner trade? They got Cliff Pooh and free draft picks. One of which became Pota Cochetov and another of which became the recently signed Alexander Nikishian. So, how many quality players did Carolina get from the Jeff Skinner trade? Coach Cedov is a is a reliable tandem goalender. This year hasn’t been good for him though, but I think he should bounce back next season behind the defensive scheme that Rod Brendeore plays. Nikes has a booming slap shot is a towering defenseman. He is fresh off his tenure in the KHL overseas. We don’t know what he’s he’s going to be like, but based on reports, he could be slotting into the Hurricanes lineup as early as next year. So, in short, Buffalo has pretty much lost every trade that they had that they have executed. Ryan O’Reilly, Jack Eel, Jeff Skinner. Have they won a trade? I mean, I’m really trying to think here. I mean, sure, you got Ta Thompson from the St. Louis Blues and he was good for one year, but what else? Alex Tuck from the Vegas Golden Knights. That’s Yeah, that’s Yeah. Okay. You know what? Yeah, that that is a nice win. But tonight’s also one of Stanley Cup Jackel. And now Tuck is finding himself in trade deadline rumors. He landed himself on the trade deadline board LA over this season. If the Sabres don’t come anywhere close to a playoff spot next season, we could see Tuck getting traded again. So in short, they have won nothing. As a result of all those trades, you get nothing. You lose. Good day, sir. Oh, Willy Wonka. I love that movie. Yep. Jean Wilder, I think his name was. Oh, yeah. Jean Wilder. Rest in power, man. Yeah. But yeah, savers, you get nothing nice from from all of this. Even when you tried to tank, you fail. As a matter of fact, even if they had gotten Conor McDavid, they would have traded him by now. Yeah, I may get that notion because that franchise is cursed. The Oilers are doing everything. They’re pushing all the right buttons. Say for Stan Bowman, but that’s more another discussion. But they are pushing all the right buttons to load up for a cup run and this year they’re wanting to take advantage of what could be their last chance with this core. Yeah, cuz otherwise I mean sure you lock down dry, you’re likely going to lock down McDavid, but I mean spoilers. Do you have any more room to work your magic? I don’t think so. And you know, as much as it would suck for Oilers fans, I mean, they’ve been at this chase for a decade now, and it hasn’t panned out yet. And it it would suck if if it doesn’t come out of a Stanley Cup. But not to mention, Evan Buchard is going to get a hefty pay raise this off season as a restricted free agent. But given how the offer sheets for Dylan Holloway and Philip Broberg worked out, well, I could see a theme that more general managers will be willing to use use more offer sheets in the future. Well, Broberg and Holloway, that was also a mix of the fact that Edmonton kept trying to screw them. like they kept playing with their money and St. Louis was very was very transparent about what they were about what they were offering. So there was that too. But here’s the other part that a lot of people don’t don’t quite understand that a lot of people aren’t thinking of. I mean what do you do? Because see the thing about as as much of a falloff as the Pittsburgh Penguins have had, they have cups, multiple cups with Crosby, Min, and Lang as well as others. So that rebuild is going to be painful, but you got cups. Edmonton, you don’t want to get caught in that. You don’t want to get caught in that trap because there’s nothing to look back on and you won’t be able to add anything if you locked everyone down. So, I hate to say this, Alec, but if they don’t do this within the next two years, including this year, big red button, they that means they have to win it now. this year essentially being last chance getting back closer towards the third period and not to mention about the cap held as impending. Sure, the salary cap is going to go up, but one of the teams that won’t be benefiting from the salary cap increase are the Oilers. Yeah, I think the Blues might a little bit, but and that’s also because they’ve got they’ve got some weight that they need to shed, so they can free up some cap space. But yeah, the Oilers are stuck in a pickle. And I don’t I don’t see a way in which they can improve their goalending situation right now because with the with the offseason that’s impending, oh boy, the plus 11 period goal differential is the best of the NHL. Oilers at the opening puck possession by six in the first two periods, plus 11 in the third period. This is where they love to shine in the playoffs. Up the far side, this gets dumped in. White crowd gets poked away. Brown rushes up to try to take it away. Loose over towards the point. Vegas gets it out. The laying up. This is deflected up and grabbed by the Oilers. Wolf up the near side as Edmonton slaps it down. Brown with dry side sticking this aside. McDavid and that pass on the play was intercepted off the boards. Eel was there and the Knights come in here free on two. Cross ice pass. Vodor tried to go across the ice. Mosard used his body to block the pass and Marstone keeps it inside. One timer was blocked in front. Vegas keeps it. Stone swung it out for Eel in front. Barbers and that one for pass him. Mrandle on the hold and Eel tried to get this one by. Bard was there. Kak down the far boards. This bounce up towards the SWAT. The Oilers play this one out. Alex Petrangelo backpedals as the Oilers and the Golden Knights make changes. But with Heg up the near side just takes a bounce up the end boards and for the far side the Knights send it in backhand side is Quingberg as he was the first one arriving there but Howen takes it away up front he gets tangled up looking for Carlson down deep it is Smith out in front the centering passing to go held inside by Petrangelo and his shot was blocker aside by Pickard on Howen the Oilers want to move it up but can’t up the near Bors as this was chopped at near the penalty box doors. Alen breaks it free. Hyman there. Kane sets it up. Here’s Hyman. Centering it up for a shot. Flutters inside. Evander Kane off the pads of Aiden Hill. It is 42. The depth of the Edmonton Oilers is one to withstand as they can deploy all four forward lines up and down the ice. We talk about how the Golden Knights can do it. The Oilers can do the same thing as well. Ryan Nent Hopkins keeps it in the zone. And through hard work and grit, Edmonton powers their way through this bounce off of Petrangelo offhill as Kane almost had that one block on a bouncing puck and man to find his way inside. It is 42 Edmonton up the far side. The Golden Knights try to come back in. 29th career playoff goal for Kane. Walking the play is White Crow. Deep shot gets blocked. And on the other way it is Arbertson the fourth line dumps it down. It is Yamar who fires one onto the goal but can’t get on onto the crit free. He will play it out back behind is Hannneathan. Noah Hannan onto the far corner and moving it down the far side the ice is White Cloud. Off the far side moving around Keegan Kasar gets met by John Queenberg. There’s a broken stick on the ice. New guy on the ice is Nick W. He keeps his one down. Kasar Kasar spinning around Kak as he tries to find the open lane. Trying to get for Heg and a shot in front and Picker turns away Tanner Pearson. He’ll cover up. 249 into the third period and Evander Kane. He had a personal pregame arrival. He arrived with a personal driver as he is escorted to T-Mobile Arena and he escorted it here. He escorts the Oilers to a 42 lead. He wondered whether he was going to be available for this season. Back in time for the playoffs, he hadn’t played a game since game two of the Stanley Cup final last year. And on three shots, third time is the charm for Vander trying to put fast de trying to put past Demons behind him. Off the draw, Theodore gets one from deep. Picker swallows it whole. Knights down by two. They’re the ones playing from behind. They’re the best third period team in the regular season. The Oilers are the best third period team in the playoffs. So it’s a clash of gauntlets and third period teams and what is expected to be a track meet. Fedor to McNab off the draw. Eichel sends one across over to Barbership. Deep backhander fought off by Pickard and it’ll be gobbled up by Wman. Can’t get it out. Wman gets it again. Folks to right by the head of McNab who’ll get it across for Theodore. Fedor Barbara gets tied up. The Oilers want to take it back and they will, but not before the Knights have a say. Here is Barbashev. This puck bounces off escape and is cleared outside to center ice. Barbashev wants to get this one back for Vegas and does off the far side and then sent back down Theodore who has been out there on the ice for a long time on his shift. The McDavid line out there on the ice plus 48 regular season goal differential fifth in the NHL minus four in the third period in terms of goal differentials regular season and playoffs on the difference. McDavid takes it away. McDavid gets tangled up from behind. Carlson takes it back. William Carlson bought one through and up the far side walking backwards is Howen. How centers one. No deflection. Pickard grabs it. 21-8. The shots in favor of the Golden Knights as we are yet to get an update on Brandon Sad. So Sod has gone down the tunnel. So, we’re trying to get an update on Branded Sad, but we do not have any such on the last update on Brandon Sad. We don’t have have any of such. Still waiting on that. Oilers win the draw and he’ll get this one up with Conor McDavid walking by. Gets forced wide. Tomas Shardo out there to pick it up and he drew one. Is Conor McDavis going to go out for a high stick? Is there what is the question? Golden opportunity for the Golden Knights. No, nonetheless. Question is, is it two or four? It’s two minutes. So, so it’s just two minutes here. Not so much. And not really any blood, but on the high stick. McDavid’s going to spend two minutes in the box as white crowd favoring that chin. We’ll see if the Knights get one back and a big kill here for the Oilers. They have a a year after the best penalty kill in the playoffs. They have the worst pony kill in the playoffs. It’s Tomas Hurdle almost got one. This is a tie up the draw. The Knights will take it back. Walking the point. It is Theodore. Walks it over to Eichel. Eichel got it on down low for Stone. Gets it back over to Eichel at the near quarter who waits patiently. Sees no lane opening. Fedor walks up onto the deep point. Olison scores again. His second one on the power play and it’s for free. Hay maker after hay maker after hay maker. The Golden Knights If the Golden Knights tie this up. Good lord. What a game we are witnessing here at Vegas. We knew that this series is going to be filled with barn burners left and right and it’s setting up to be one of those track meets. And once again, Olison. This time he goes bottom at the right circle. It’s not Mark Stone setting it up. Ike waits patiently. Every passing lane. See him close up. And just in time, I go a seeing eye pass across. Olivesson on hattick watch now. He has both playoff goals tonight. Both on the power play. The Oilers need their big guns to show up. They’re up for free, but the Knights are still up there with them. Puck dumped in collected by Quingberg. He is tied up at the near quarter, but Yamar is there trying to hound his guys off the near side for the forche. Can’t get it out is held at the point. A deep shot from White Cloud went wide. Kasar picks up at the near corner. Kasar gets one back up to the point. Here’s Ward again and fires this one wide again. Kasar setters up. Bounced off escape. That was Wah. Clingberg ties him up. Wah escapes. Wah gets boxed out again. He escapes again trying to get back to the point. The fourth line doing the work and they’ll take this one up in the far side. Arersonson cuts around and this will be grabbed by Hill and a shoving commotion left and right. Hannah pushed Matias Yanmark. You know, Yanmark popped right into his his guys. As you look at the high, look at the goal. Good positioning by Olivesson at the right circle. Stone takes away. Stone opens up for a brief bulb at the net front in which at the box out allows Olison to step up take away Picker’s eyes of motion. The one-time was there. 1445 left in this third period. Oilers lead it for free. I was free assist. Oh, McDavid bring up. Box on the draw. We’ll have to do this over again. It’s Eeko winning it. On the way back, McNab can’t get it out as is held inside. McDavid behind the crease. McDavid coming out in front over to left point right side. One times one. Hell with the stop. He’ll cover right by the screen set by Cory Perry as Dry Side set up the one-time. Good response from the Oilers as well as they came out firing and they know that they play like they’re behind each and every game as they trailed in each game in this postseason. They were in control for most of the second period. But past reputation shows that the Oilers are not a third period team. False in the faceoff. It looked like the Oilers are going to be pan The Oilers are going to be on the bad end of this as Dry Side was tossed out. McDavid will jump in. You know how these two superstars operate. McDavid and Eel, they’re not on the ice together as William Carlson will take the draw for the Knights. As we wait our timeout, base off is one by the Oilers with a reach from McDavid. McDavid fires inside. His puck came moves onto Bard. Bard fires one. Walked right in front and the Knights will get this one out on the foot race. This get picked up by Wman. Jake Wman at the far corner. Delivers one on cross ice now for Boo Sharers. Carlson kept it inside looking for the tie and goal. Gets broken up and the Oilers have numbers on the way back. rushing for the right side. Perry who slows up. Perry delivers it back over to Dryidle out in front and McDavid trying to whack it into the net. It comes loose for Theodore who points it out and a penalty is coming. 601 is deferred. It looks like it’s a cross-checking penalty. Riley Smith will get it head off for two minutes for interference. It’s cross-checking on Riley Smith. And so the Oilers will get a chance to score in a man of edge. They haven’t yet so far in this series, but the speed from Leon Dryidle and Conor McDavid want to watch. Oh, we come back. The Oilers to the power play. Alec Nav with Ian Genji. We’ll be right back. So, we learned about barn burners left and right. See, look at the top prospects of the 2025 draft. And as of now, the New York Islanders are on the clock. It’s a shock that they got the first overall selection. Nobody thought that they were going to get the first pick in the draft, but here we are after they had just a 3.5% chance of landing pick number one. So as you look at the updated draft prospects, number one is Matthew Schaefer, defenseman for the Eerie Otterers, projected to be a two number one corner, two number one cornerstone for years, a presence at both ends of the ice. SK visa use his duty to shut down opponents in one-on-one situations. Executives and scouts view him as a future elite NHL defenseman and a foundational piece for championship caliber roster controlling the play for the blue line playing tough matchups and run a power play. He can be a top 10 defender in the league. Can change the trajectory of a franchise pair next to Noah Dobson. All magic can happen. Victor Olson has two of the three Vegas goals in this game. Riley Smith is in the box here for two minutes. Crosschecking is a penalty. Evander K is the latest Oiler goal. They have not yet scored on a man advantage. They’re 516 this postseason all for free this series. Both Char Hopkins Hopkins call and drag Hill to stop and he’ll cover. He got out of midair and Aiden Hill tried to backs stop the Knights to a come from behind victory of their own showing that they can and will have the magic to come back from down two to win it. Dry Sio to take it against Eel. It’s a try out on the faceoff. The Knights will clear it out and Calvin Picker will set behind for Evan Buchard to take this one up and soon enough we’ll see Conor McDavid speed down the lane. Oh, now it’s Didle down the right side for Cory Perry. Back for Dryside with the near corner. Gets it all the way out for Bard. Bard sets up RNH. R&H for Dryidle. Bard McDavid again for the left side. Bushbar. Will we see a Bushar? will and Hill had the answer over kick save. Rushing for this puck is Nan Hopkins is taken away lane the rush back is McDavid gets dispossessed on the keep RH the noo backtracking and Chris Mock is not one to shy away from double shifting his top power play unit dryidle holds up entry feed McDavid McDavid tied up at the near corner dryidle got it free for Perry Perry got it over towards the far half boards Hopkins booard has a lane for RNH. McDavid. Carl Sup lost it. Mark Stone was in the way. Great play by Stone to take this back up, but here’s Dry Style laying the way for the near side waiting for help. Protecting with one stick, lost it. And here’s White Crowd off the poke. And White Crowd sends it down. Calvin Picker with 30 seconds to go on the man advantage. And the Knights almost stole behind the net. And here’s Nurse Swinged away. Second power play group is out there. Adam Henrik for the far side along the boards for Hyman. Zack Heyman got it back and spun it for Henrik. Henrik for Queenberg. Swit this one by for Hyman. Hyman spins half pivots. 7 seconds dropping for Nurse. Arnold Nurse double deflection and makes way for Hill. Pick it up as Kane. Kane for Hyman. Power play over. Heyman got tied up. Hey picks it up and for the near half boards bouncing over towards the Oiler zone. It is iced and Vegas kills off another one. 1150 to go here in this third period. And a good opportunity here for the Oilers, but the penalty kill stood tall here for Vegas. So far the special teams battle is won firmly by the Golden Knights. Not an easy task to go up against this Oiler. Power play has been torred hot, but they’ve lived up to that. Enrique and Hen on this face off. Ball Star will do this over again. 40 24 to 21 the shots in favor of the Oilers and this series living up to his track meet style. Yet another false start. We’ll see who gets the boot. Oh, never mind. And yes, Marquee was not having any of this. Once again, this Yanmark and Howen. I thought it was Henrique. This time it is the Knights winning it. First time is a charm. Vegas quiz this one out. Riley Smith sends it in deep from the far side. Cross corner. Quingberg picks it up. Don Quingberg moves it down the middle and fan on the pass. Take it back up for Barbashev. Sticked away and the Oilers trying to gain the zone. This gets gloved down by Hannipan. Boy have a high stick. So we get a stoppage. Let’s see how many times it takes to get this face off commenced. Four free Oilers for the midway mark of the third period. They win this face off. Boochar picks it up going across across the ice. This one fired towards Hill. We’ll play it out. Tre Frederick kept this one alive for the moment. Connor Brown the forch check up the far side. The Knights have numbers here. Twoon two. They’ll send this one down. Bushar matches up with Tanner Pearson. A tie up behind the crease. Brett Kulak up against the boards as they are right behind Calvin Pickard. Sticked away. Here’s along the white point. Here is Petrangelo down deep for Hurdle. Tomas Hurdle back for Noah Hannavan who glides along Brown. Hannipan toward the net. Stopped by Pickard. Havan keeps his one alive behind the net. pass in front and one of the Oilers can’t get this one through. Adavan controls it. Scooping up for the pile. Along the point was Hurdle. This is shovel pass towards Petrangelo. Didn’t work or rather that was Pearson. Pearson holds his zone. Hurdle tied up. Another hole for Petrangelo. Adam Fel deflected on for Picker who makes a stop. Boschar picks it up and will scoop. This one is just kept in the zone again. Hurdle. Nearly a minute of zone time here for the Knights for the near quarter and it’s float picked up by Aander Kane. Kane wants to clear it out and does so at long last. The Oilers make their changes. I swine’s out there. Barbashev on for the near half board. Center on one for Stone. He gets tied up. Stone for the near corner gets one out to the point. Quick shot and that block. And that one of Io and he’s hurting. He gets back up very slowly and is able to continue. He gets it back. Eichel one touch pass here. Stone setting up in front. Blocked in in the slot. Quainber picks it up. Kane along with the Bors got this one out. Will this be an icing is the question. It will. Just got enough of that to be called an icing. Jack Ille takes a high stick away from the play. A call that was missed. He tries to go across but the but no call on that. The official spot that he was selling it and it would have been a chance for Vegas to go on the power play again. And the nice power play to a free. It is Aquel McDavid on the ice at the same time. They have Kane out there with McDavid trying to catch his breath. Eiko wins this draw. Stone walking this one along for deep shot. Walked in front. Came back onto the near half boards. Bounces up played off the hand and it’s a hand pass and hit the glove of Mark Stone and Jack Eel visibly displeased with the officials wanting an explanation for why that was not a penalty. Pass the halfway mark affirm period. The Oilers lead for free. We’ll be right back. So among those prospects in the NHL entry depth that we could be looking at not only Schaefer, Michael Misa who got exceptional status in the OHL, one of the most remarkable scoring seasons in recent memory, 62 goals in 65 games. He projects to be a topline forward. The potential to consistently exceed a point per game pace at the NHL. Offensive instincts are elite. He processes the game at a high level and executes at high speed. He is NHL ready. Has the potential to become an elite top liner if his development continues on his current path. And at third, James Haggins, a top projected to be a top line setter, one on one of the NHL’s best second line setters, bringing a good work rate with excellent speed and two-way ability that should see him effectively drive play at the NHL level. The detail of his game, such as supporting the puck, winning battles and defensive anticipation, will ease the transition to the NHL while he finds his offensive gear. He likely needs another season at Boston College to further develop his decision-m and add a more dynamic offensive gear to become a topline NHL setter. His understanding of spacing and his anticipation ability stand out stand out. And there’s a mix of Quon Keller and Mattie Beners in him in terms of playmaking skill and two-way ability. Still beneers a raw product with the Seattle Kraken. We don’t know who is going to emerge as true superstar of the Kraken because that answer still has yet to be found. The Stanley Cup playoffs will continue on for tomorrow where it is the Toronto Maple Leafs and for the Panthers at 7 Eastern. The Dallas Stars and Winnipeg Jets 9:30 Eastern. The Leafs lead their series two games in. The Stars hand the Jets their first opening their first home loss. That’s a nice win. This face off the the Stars hand the Jets their first home loss of the playoffs and break an eightgame game one losing streak up the middle. This gets batted down by the Knights. It would been a back and forth track meet. 83% of games inside by one are inside by one goal or at least two with an empty net bounced off of the far boards near the benches. The Knights slowly take their back inside. Eel drops out for McNav. Eel keeping his one inside and off of the far half boards spun around as Howen bounces behind the crease. Stone kept it in. McNav holds fire one towards the net. rebound there and it takes a block up high and right onto Pickard’s glove. Jack Ego at the T1 up. The Knights were searching for the tying goal which will level this at four apiece and what is one of the craziest playoff games that we have witnessed this year. And I almost had his fourth point of the night. Another big stop by Calvin Pickard who is rising to the occasion. He’s doing just enough. It comes down to who does just enough in net. 842 to go in the third period. Oilers lead for free. They lead the shot force 2523. Three assists, one shot, two scoring chances. Off the draw, it’s a tie up at the far side. Oilers trying to clear it but can’t. Here it is with a handful who fires one. The rebound picked up by Darno Nurse and Pickard a little slow to get up. He gets back onto his knees. The Knights have it back at their own zone as they move it up for Olivesson up the far boards. Sod is back out there. So he has quit the play. One timer and that’s wide a picker kept inside by Hannneathan and up at the far side. Henry can’t scoop it out. The Knights keep it inside. Havan goes back towards Petrangelo. Petrangelo fires and he scores. We are tied. Alex Petrangelo. Tomas hurdle fo right behind Calvin Pickard and that caused Picker to get slow to get up. The trans fires one from the point that changed direction off a stick. This might be to hurdle who deflected with this one in front. He had to. So Petrano had the initial shot. Hurdle may have tipped it. It was a perfect tip for Hurdle. Petrangelo with the initial shot and we are tied at four. Second goal this postseason for Petranzo in his first game back from illness as he was a late stretch in game one 44 in game two tie up here at the far out boards the Oilers need to go on the attack on the hold set up at the high swat fought off by Picker kept in play and the whistle was blown as there was a high stick push shoving afterwards the Oilers didn’t like the fact that the puck was put at the back of the net right after it was played of a high stick and it looks like it and this is one of those situations where you don’t want to take a penalty. You do not want to get the extra man on the ice and it looks okay at the initial shot and it went off picker and off onto the mesh. Pearson didn’t hear a whistle and he tried to tuck it in. Bad decision making as Kyle Merchesen and Jesse Marque had to step in to break up the two sides. You want to see what happens here from here on out because goending in [ __ ] for the Oilers is between him and Stewart Skinner. That’s not really an advantage for the Oilers. The Skinner has the ball has the ball cap on. Skinner with a 611 GA and an 810 save percentage. The last we saw of Skinner was the first round against the Kings. He was pulled in game two. That pass went all right from Theodore to McNab. Theodore holds on. McNab off the near side. Backhead inside by Eel. Picker will play out to the far corner. held by the Oilers as they want to get a chance here. RNH back hands for Nurse behind the line up for the near side. Sets right behind Hill and be left for Theodore. Icing waved off McDavid on the hold by around a circle. Hill to stop knows how to play 701 to go. You have to watch for Pickard here. So he may be okay. Maybe he’s fighting off an injury. He is all right for the moment. We’re so looking at Skinner in the event that picker had to be pulled. Remember, he got tangled up. It might be his ankle. Probably that left that that left leg is to be monitored. We’ll see at any point if he needs to get subbed out. Face off is to the right of Hill. Dry side 97 Carlson 912. This time Dryidle wins it. Deep shot here. Kicked out by Hill. Picked up in the far corner by Garner Brown. Intended for Dry Cidle. Back for Dry Cidle on this glove down. Gets this back towards the point. Colak rink wide on the pointto-oint pass. Bounce down deep but got a hold of it. And the Knights play this one out. Dry side resets. The Oilers walking back with this one near their own bench. Flutter this one down. The Knights will restart. Coast to coast on this pass. Taunts back behind Pickard. Fired around for the near side. The Oilers reset. Dry side over skates it. And this will come for the Golden Knights up the far half boards. Bounce stop it around near the Oiler bench. Coast to coast on the rink white pass. The Knights reset again. Hannipan goes back for Whitecloud. Zack Whitecloud up the middle. Gets taken up by Vegas. Hannipan drops back. Here’s Hurdle. Bounces one for Hannipan. Tied up by Bard. Henrik there the Knights escape of it or the half boards the Oilers pick it up. Here’s Hyman who has fought off at the near half corner. Henrik rushes in to try to keep it and Victor Olivesson prize it free back in for to the Vegas zone and walking with this one is Hannipan bounced it over down deep. Vodor off the near side bounced off of Hurdle recollecting now are the Oilers. Off the right side, Hyman. Zack Heyman slows down, dumps it out the near side. First one back is Theodore. Bounces up and it’ll be gloved down by Edmonton. Yadmar enters back in. Yadmar gets tied up for the near boards. Lost the puck. McNab all of a sudden gets tangled up. Couldn’t get the shot. Tried to do a little too much. Brandon McNab got tangled up and lost his stick in the scuffle and McNab ices it. But a a sigh of relief by the Golden Knights has McNab turns the puck over, falls down and Arbertson tried to do too much. Theodore stood with his man Arbertson and broke it up. 508 to go here in the third. Arbertson usually a second lighter bumped down to the fourth line as an energy forward to the right of Hill. Offensive zone face off won by the Oilers, but it comes to Eel as he jumped the face off. Ekeel forced towards the outside and it’s not a penalty on Darno Nurse despite the fact that he bumped Eel. McDavid dancing around the neutral zone. Sets up Cory Perry. Perry stops and fires around. McDavid in the playoffs with nine points in the third period in overtime. Lisa Bchar fires it high and up for the left point. This gets held up aside. Bounced out the swat. Vegas quiz it down. Bard will reset for right side idle. Cannot carry it back inside. Set back towards the Edmonton blue line for Bard. Two righties out there for the Oilers as they skate with this. 425 to go in the third. John Quingberg in. Bard out. Wman in. Quingberg finds Hyman as the second line goes to work. Hyman flying down the right side. Hyman to the back end. Loose [ __ ] in front. And that one fire outside the cage. N Hopkins keeps it in. Bounce behind the net for Hyman. Hyman swept this one aside. Comes back to the left point. Hill fights it off. And a second one. Hyman for Wman. Woman tries again. Blocked off a body and out of play. Sacrificial effort by Nick Wah with 356 to go in the final frame of regulation. We come back. This crazy finish will be amplified tenfold. Alec Nava, Ian Genji with you. We’ll return. It’s coming down to the wire. This one, Alex. And and there was a feel and when we were discuss and when John and I were discussing playoffs series, we were hinting at the possibility of a track meet in in this series. Guess what? This game is a track meet. Yep. We knew this was coming because goalending is not a strength of either one of these two teams despite the fact that Aiden Hill is seasoned and won a Stanley Cup with Vegas. But to be fair is is any this all this series is going to be a highscoring series. We can just feel it and it comes down to the big players will be having the advantage here and at this point it looks like it’s going to be next goal wins. So in any case, do you is do you believe this next next goal wins here territory for these two teams? Oh, absolutely. Even if it doesn’t get to overtime. It’s honestly I thought we were in that territory when Edmonton went up 42. Oh, but now we’re in that realistic territory where Vegas could erase an Edmonton comeback attempt and they win on their own comeback attempt. Now, do remember the longest playoff win streak when they score at least three goals, the Vegas Golden Knights since 2020. 42 consecutive. There’s only one team ahead of them. The Macho Canadians in the 1950s with 52 consecutive wins with a when scoring at least three goals in the playoffs. The Oilers this postseason have five consecutive comeback victories. A first time in the NHL. Second lines out there for the Oilers. It it is of Zack Heyman, Ryan Hopkins, and a Vander Kane with Kane playing on his off wing. So, we have some issues along the boards. They’re getting the repair crew to fix that. McDavid and Dry Cidle are score. When McDavid and Dry Cidle are scoreless, the Oilers have nine consecutive playoff losses. But there’s no issue with the far corner of the Vegas zone along the boards. So, a play on here. 356 to go. No points for McDavid or Dry Cidle yet, but we see that here now. Quangberg takes it in. Base one for Kane. Zyman drives towards the crease. Heyman stopped by Hill. Tries to cut this one out to the far side. And this will be held along the far half boards with the Oilers holding on to it. Cross size pass for Quainberg. Quainberg open look. Bounced off Hill. Himman’s tied up to the crease. Backhander swep wide by got a piece of hill and it’s cleared down deep. Bouncing puck collected up by Eel. Jack Eel. Close stop by two Oilers as the Oilers will re-enter it back deep onto the near corner right behind the goalmouth white cloud as the Oilers are changing. Hannah moved it up the near side for Carlson. William Carlson ceases to go too far for him and a swipe at the puck from Connor Brown the third line once again doing a lot of defensive work. Brown and Frederick tied up a neutral ice. Howen also pickpocketed. Bard skates this one away. Bard off the near wall as Brown chipped it over to the near corner. Petrangelo gets hauled down and that was on his own doing. 240 to go. Bard sells things stop for Nurse. Evan Bard again. Bard wakes up back for Nurse. Arnold Nurse left it up and starting up as McDavid on McDavid through the middle. Watch by Olson. McDavid skates around with speed but has his pocket picked by Barbership. And the Knights methodically both will send this one into the near corner. John Quingberg first one back. Quingberg can’t take it up. Nurse can and Nurse will send it out to the far half boards. A tie up. Oilers get it out for dry off the middle. McDavid tried to split the defense but too much. Held inside by Perry. Cory Perry swept it around. McDavid taken down by McNab. Now it’s start off onto the far side. No whistle here. Picked up now by the Oilers as they move back inside. Dry Cidle on side here. Pass Eel. Drop back. Here’s Queenberg. Quainberg centers up. Perry the rebound. Stopped twice. Dry Cidle will look to the crease. Hell is down. He covers up. What a chaotic sequence here at Las Vegas as it looked like the Oilers had to go ahead go under ducket. Game saver for Aiden Hill as he made pure robbery on Cory Perry and Leon Didle with the puck loose over at the net front and him down. He kicked out the initial one. The second one bounced off Hannah. Harry can’t get out of it and the pressure from the Oilers looming large. Dry side knew it was that close to scoring the go-ahead goal and potentially winning it for the Oilers. Matas Yanmark not a natural center but he is forced into center duties because there’s no centermen on the fourth line. Yanmark to take it. He’s 0 for5 on draws. Hannah flips it down and make it 0 for six for Yanmark on draws. Final 90 of regulation up the far side. The Oilers send this one back. Hill plays it out. Sees the approaching Oiler and Arbitson and flings over the far half boards. Moved up the middle. Good reach by Wman to take it away. Jake Wman backed it off the end boards to both Shard and back. Wman skates it over and then flanks it up front. Taking up is Arbitson rushing onto the puck. Arbertson can’t handle it. And this one almost cleared up by Eel but kept inside. Arbitson with a minute to go here. Pickpocketed out of the near half boards. This tangle up came loose in the swap, but there’s nothing. Ry Hopkins was there. The Knights get this one down and settle it down. Here is Barbashev boxed out by Kulak. Red Koulak forced towards forcing him towards the outside held at the point as this pass didn’t go anywhere from the top of the right circle set for Eel back towards the right side. Here is Brett Howen accelerates down deep. Howen keeping this one alive back towards the point. McNav here is Theodore holding on to it. Theodore fires wide. 25 seconds left. Back behind as Nick Wah Wah wants to find the open man. W spinning around Kak Eel. Jack Eel trying to find the open man for the point. McNab goes back to him now. A one-time rebound in front. Stopped by Pickard. 8 seconds to go in regulation. Here’s McNab. Thanks a timer. Eel caught Pickard up high. Exits out to the Vegas. Overtime at the fortress. And it’s so appropriate that such a chaotic track meet will require extra time. So many chances, so many opportunities for both teams to get a response to one another. And fittingly, in such a highscoring battle, this will need another 20 minutes at most. Wow, what a game, Ian. Yep. And it’s not over yet. Sudden death. We have 15 minutes to discuss it over. And of course, sudden death is where all the chaos can bring. We have seen playoff overtime heroes rise up to the occasion. This is the 14th playoff game this year to go to overtime and frankly enough every playoff game that I’ve covered in the second round so far this year has been a onegoal game. Two of the three going to overtime. The only one that hasn’t go back to last night with Miko Rantin’s second period hattick. Oh, as we go on for extra discussions, we’re seeing some surprising Mo surprises and one of them I I covered this in opening night with John. Spencer Torqulson is finally living up to the number one pick hype. Yes, he is. And good for him, too. When he was drafted, he was highly he was a highly touted prospect out of Arizona State. Couldn’t really find a rhythm in the bigs and looked to be on the verge of being a bust. Thankfully, whatever he’s done this off season, it’s worked because his bat is a quintessential part of why the of why the Tigers are doing so well so early on. He has a 669 OPS last year, but finally in his age 25 season, his OPS is at an 879. And he walks he’s drawing walks at a significantly higher rate and has a renowned sense of confidence. And whatever is working under AJ Hinch’s coaching staff, it has reinvigorated his confidence. Yep. AJ Hinch, you know, he’s um he’s turned that club around and it’s needed it, too. Mhm. You know, it’s been a it’s been a long time since the AL Central was truly respectable. And now it you got the you got the Tigers, you got the Guardians, and now you and you have the Royals all vying for that crown. All of them currently in playoff positions. Yep. And the Tigers, they made some bold moves. Yeah. They put Gabber Torres at second base. They with that they move Colt Keefe to first base. Torque came into spring training. had to fight just to get at bats at DH. But then everything changed. He hit his way to a starting role at first base in 31 of the Tigers 36 games. His production along with Jav Bayas, who’s produced an 827 OPS while transition to center field, has given the Tigers some much needed right-handed power and helped them climb to the top of the AL Central. I did not see that coming. I mean, I thought Jav Bay Vayz was gonna spend the rest of his career being an offensive black hole and a and an unmovable albatross contract. I did not see a hobby as redemption arc happening. And my friend put it simply, the Tigers feel like a team of destiny because so far nothing has gone wrong for them. As far as I know, the same just cannot be said for the Angels. Last year, we saw lowly bats from the Rockies and White Socks with two of the 12 worst walk to strikeout ratios in MLB history. The Angels are making an early run at the alltime mark. They have accumulated 81 walks in their first 35 games this season. That’s the lowest total in the majors. In the meantime, the hitters have struck out 338 times, the third most in the league. Before tying their season high with six walks with a walk-off win, their 23 walk to strikeout rate was on pace to be the worst in baseball history. Yeah, and the fact of the matter is they have completely ruined the career of their number 10 pick in the 2020 draft, Reed Dead. He is a what he has isn’t even a decline. It’s a cliff dive. I mean, and keep in mind, this is the same guy who in his in one of his I think it might have been his rookie season, his first start, he throws a no hitter. [Music] Just not the type of production that you want. But that you mentioned it about full on cliff dive like you’re skydiving off of one of the Rocky Mountains. And keep in mind the Angels one year used all of their draft picks on pitchers. 20 whole rounds. All of them pitchers. Do you know how many are Do you know? You want to know how many you truly have potential to get to the bigs? How many? One. One pitcher, maybe two. There’s a guy who’s on the fringes, but only one that is respectably are that is respectfully being looked at as major league level talent, but other than that, they got nothing. And keep in mind, they traded some of their best prospects for Lucas Gilo and Ronaldo Lopez. Yeah. And Ronaldo Lopez to the White Socks one year in in the last year of show Otani because of an allin push and they collapsed. So their farm system is dry is is dry. They have nothing coming in through the pipeline. their best, you know, one of the best surprises they had, Mickey Moniac one year completely fell off a cliff. He fell off a major cliff. He’s with the Rockies now. Oh my goodness. Yeah. And he’s terrible there, too. So, they’ve got nothing except Arty Moreno is spending gods upon gods of money. Now, what they do have that the Rockies don’t are guys that they can trade. The thing is they’re not going to get anything for them. I don’t think they have I mean the their best trade asset as of right now is Jorge Solair who’s good. He’s a good power hitter still decent enough fielder but you’re not gonna but you’re not going to get the moon for him. You know they’re not doing that. And oh, one more. Oh, and Mike Trout is injured again. He’s really the Bobby or baseball. Great player before the injuries kept up with him. Yep. And the thing is, his contract is still so massive. If they were going to off, you know, if they if they’re going to offload it, number one, they’re going to have to retain a lot of salary just to make it look presentable. And then they’re going to have to accept whatever the hall is because this is not, you know, what what you’re trading for is a shell of a Hall of Fame caliber player. That does not look good at all. Yeah. And and who knows, you know, maybe if he gets traded to another team, you know, kind of like what happened with Albert Pools, he can get actual medical treatment than what and not whatever the angels have going on over there. And maybe he has, you know, one last one last run in him. Maybe. And you know what also? Yeah. Yeah. You know what also surprising? that somehow the Brewers, despite all the injuries on their rotation, they’re somehow finding a way in the most Brewers way possible that the forum of Freddy Paralta, Chad Patrick, Jose Kintana, and Quinn Pester combined for a 155 RA over 60 free and two first innings after allowing 47 runs in 30 free innings. But their starting rotation boasts the fifth lowest erra and the majors at a 308. And this is with three of their starting pitchers, Tobias Meyers, DL Hall, and Aaron Ashby on the injured list. And two more, Aaron Cavali, and Nester Cortez were on the shelf within the regular season’s final week. How? I I don’t know. Well, it’s because because it’s the freaking Brewers and they do this every year. Yep. They they have a reputation for develop for employing pitchers who overachieve because they can’t afford a high ceiling arms who cost a fortune in free agency. So, they hammer up the depth to raise the floor as much as possible. So, this is a simple concept. Develop and acquire pitchers who fit the environment. more specifically those who benefit a lot from a strong infield defense. Yep. You’re looking for pitch to contact hitters in that case. And I would have never thought that would have included Quinn Pester, a former Pittsburgh Pirate. He helped stabilize the rotation. It was in dire straits when the season began. Though a key reinforcement did come by it by the end of this week. Brandon Woodruff is still looking to make his long awaited return from shoulder surgery. Wow. I completely forgot he was on the team. Right. We are Yeah, it’s we are two and a half minutes away from the overtime session. Let’s go ahead and who will be the overtime hero for tonight’s game. So I’ll start with you Ian. Who do you think will win it? Let’s see. Um, oh, dry sidle for for the Oilers. I think it’ll be dry for the the Knights. [Music] Uh, jeez, that’s um You know what? I think Oliv gets gets the hattick. I’ll be in quite Yeah, I those are nice picks as well. Yeah, with Dry Cidle, of course, you got a superstar scoring a winner. He already has one this postseason. Olivesson, that’ll be a smart choice. Granted, if they the Knights get on another power play, but power plays are very few and far between when overtime awaits in the postseason. But it could be a a possibility here in overtime here in the SAP playoffs. Do remember Dido got his overtime winner on a power play. So as for my picks here in overtime for the Oilers, you know what? I want to see a gritty. I’m going with Jake Walman for the overtime winner. I’m going with defenseman here. And for the Golden Knights, I am picking Mark Stone. He has two assists, but Jack Eel is on a free assist night. And perhaps it may be fitting enough that Aiko would get the primary assist on on a Stone overtime winner. Eiko has three assists so far. He has assisted on the goals both on Olson and has the primary assist on William Carlson’s goal as he was the one taking the initial shot. Conor McDavid and Leon Dryido have been held off the score sheet, but as you noted on as you foreshadowed on your overtime prediction, Ian, you can only keep them off the score sheet for so long. Yep. All right. The green lights come on. That atmosphere here at Las Vegas is amazing. Gold towels waving here in the building. It will be it will be an Oiler victory. It will be a Golden Knight victory. Hiko wins the opening draw overtime here at Las Vegas. Should the Oilers win, it’ll be two nothing Demon to see Erie here in the postseason. Should the Golden Knights win, it’ll be squared up at one and turned into a best of five. Rushing back is Kak. They’re protected away from Eel. Up the near corner, kept in by Stone. Stone given go for Eeking pass up front. There was a twist and turn there. McNav on the hold from the left side. Back deep is Eel who wants to set up. Barbashev a one-time and that one fan wide. Another one-time. Picker held the post and he took that one away. Boschard leads the way up the middle. Intercepted as the night will go back with us as Mark Stone. Stone leads the rush back. Stone forced towards the far corner by Kak. Across the ice is Petrando. He wants it and now bounced off of Pickard. Holding it is Stone. Arc Stone goes down low for Barbashev. Gets bumped by Bard. Goes towards the near corner. this puck as it is taken up by Nurse over towards his shoulder and Dryidle will come off the ice. A minute 10 into this overtime session tied at four. Off the far side out of front bouncy puck, loose puck. Olson gets robbed by Pickard. How did he not have that one? Oh my goodness. Right behind the net, it’s Clingberg. John Clingberg up the middle. They couldn’t handle this one. The Knights with two scoring opportunities. They’ll come back with another. Olivesson again pinned by Nen Hopkins. Escapes. Gets himself into trouble again. Loses it. Clingberg on the way back going up front for Hyman. Heyman can’t spin free. He gets hold back. And now back with this is Vegas. Picker plays it out with Carlson in pursuit. Fighter on the far boards. Back deep. The Oilers moving up with speed. Henrik hands off. Here’s Brown. Deep shot covered up by Aiden Hill. 2 minutes and 4 seconds removed in the first overtime. And it almost was Victor Olivesson ending it for the Knights as two chances right to slot. Riley, Ivan Barbashev, and Victor Olivesson both in quick succession as the two of them were crashing the net. I I am still befunnled at that robbery from Calvin Pickard. That was the save of the game tonight so far. On the right circle, Adam Henrik to take the draw. match up with Nick Wah. Vegas emerges with this puck for the near side is a tangle up at center ice. Picked back up by Wah and the Oilers get back up with this puck. They enter in with Frederick. Dropped back up for Brown. His shot hammered wide. Wman on the hold for Frederick. Frederick tied up at the near corner. Then I tried to escape it. Henrique kept it for a moment but it’s picked back up by Vegas. White crowd up the middle. Spun back down by Kasar. Swept away by Bousard. Bousard for the near quarter. Pearson back over to the left point. McNab. Pearson again. High swap fired. Covered up by Pickard. 240 gone in overtime. And 10 is new. Pushing and shoving. Frederick wants to go at it with Kasar. A tangle up right in front of the net led to that scuffle as Canor Pearson called for it. Got the passer. a high swap. Picker saw through the screen, but SWAT no rebound as he’s looking for the rebound as Nick W the jam at the rebound. Pickard is picking up his glove as Pearson heads the bench. So the fourth line is off. Brett Hen is the first player in Golden Knights history with two playoff overtime winners if Jack Eel comes back out there 1325 on faceoffs has yet to score to record an overtime winner but Barbashev is setting up for a quick shot off the draw. He is tied up here is Barbashev who gets boxed out by Quingberg kept in for the deep left point gets cut away and moved up for the near side for Yanmark. Yan Marquez lost every single one of his face offs. This puck bounced off for center. Grabbed down by Arbertson and up for Nurse. Ring Quai back to him. Edmonton has played large with five defenseman here. Eiko moves Ring Quai too hot to handle for Barbashev. Here is Yanmark with dry side up front. Dry side in pursuit of this puck. Collects at the near half boards. Rank wine for Arbitson. Arbitson checked up at the far corner. Back behind for Dry Cidle. Vegas decides to move this one up down the near side boards. Vador slows up. We’ll move for Stone. Stone fors one towards Picker who makes an easy stop. Posen moves the other way. That’s sweet. But P Coen gets cut away and down the far side. It is Stallone. Stall moves it up and and Picker slow down the action. Moving towards the near half boards. A tangle up. Perry ties up his man. That was Petrangelo. Perry goes rink wide for Kolak. Red Kolak along the right wing side. A tangle up and moving down to the far side as McDavid boxed out. Vegas picks it up and they’re going coast to coast here. Waiting for some time looking for the perfect opportunity. Quainberg gets brought down onto all fours on his knees. Gets back up onto the action. Puck came out to the near corner. Comes down in front and was stopped by Picker. No rebound as it was swept away by the Oilers. Zack Whiteclaw picks up in his Ozone. Moves the rink wide to his partner Noah Hannifan. Wolves at the far side taking his side on the entry once again by the Knights far to the side. Nurse got there bounced behind the net. Edmonson wants to clear but Kent White on the hold. Here’s Hannipan on a shot and bounce off Pickard. Hurdle picks it up. Dom Hurdle double overtime hero for the San Jose Sharks in 2019. One timer bouncer pads Oilers going on to rush near side. Hyman leads it with Kane. Zack Hyman gets knocked off the puck and rushing onto the left point. Nobody was there. And back the other way is Brandon S to negate the icing. Red Kak watches him and knocks him off the puck. He and Ryan Hopkins both get it out. A race for this puck. Will this be an icing? Yes. And Evander Kane upset. He thought that he negated the icing. He wants a ward with Gourd Dwire and Kyle Merchesen as it comes down to the other end. But Vegas has the better opportunities here and a lot of contact. No goender interferes as the emotions as Queenberg bumps Sod right onto the crease. Quangberg as an OT winner to his credit. One for Dallas against Nashville in 2019, game six in which he ended it late. Seven saves so far in overtime for Pickard and it is past the opening five minutes and because K won the icing on the foot race, there is no icing as this one glove down. Kak will move it aside up the far board as the Oilers on the counter moving this one around. Here is Fredericker rushing into the near corner. A shovel on the play. Henrik wants to get this one onto the crease but can’t as Wah will settle it back deep up the far side. Spun around by Pearson. Kasar boxed out wide. Wah too. Battle on the near half boards and there’s a penalty. Nick Wah brought his stick up and Trent Frederick is in a heap of pain as he was high stick. It not only could be a double biter and Chris Knoblock wants a major penalty. The medical trainers are out. It was a cross check to the face. So, a bad mistake by Wah. And we’ll have to see if this is four or five. This puck comes up and Ian, that’s a cross check in the face and that drew blood that injured Frederick. They’re going to review it, Ian. But nonetheless, the Oilers are on the power play and Frederick is going off to the bench and down the tunnel. That’s a big mistake by the Golden Knights. Yes, because whenever you put the Oilers on the power play, especially in overtime, that could essentially translate onto a death sentence. Yeah. Not sure for for the Knights to do that. Just first of all, you don’t give the Oilers any power play opportunities. Not with the weapons they have, but a fiveminute major. Wow. That will be That’s it. That’s um Yeah, that’s it. Game over. Yep. And Nick Wah has been tossed from the game. He has assessed a five-minute major and a game misconduct for cross-checking Trent Frederick in which it knocked him out of the game, bloodied him up and so Vegas will have to have the biggest kill of the game. They kill off a fiveminute power play on the Oilers so as to keep their hopes up and the Oilers have a chance to make them pay. And Chris Knoblock with a chance here. Fiveinute power play begins now. Dryidle sets up. We’ll go to R&H and down low. Pass in front. What’s batted down and Didle the crease parry. It’s still free and Bard just barely held it in. Bard will feed across for Dry Cidle and it’s McDavid far corner. Bard this Oiler power play has not scored yet in this game. Will they finally break even? RNH skates one back up to the point. Bushard on lows one. McDavid one-time fought off by Hill. Den Sheldon inside the near corner. Perry Pride free. Bounce one off to the far corner. Carlson wants to clear. He does so. And Calvin Picker will play it out. 31 shots a piece. They’re 0 for two tonight, but this is the third chance here. Boo Shar will take it himself right inside. Nan Hopkins can’t find the opening. McDavid picks it up away from Smith. Cory Perry. McDavid over skate it. M Shard helps him out. Scalp a neutral ice. Nothing there in terms of any whistles. Nan Hopkins and that gets cleared out onto the far blue line. Bart slapped it forward. This is still in play and Vegas has some room at their own defensive end. So far to go tonight have the advantage here and the penalty kill. Riley Smith waits. He is tied up as Brett Hen actually. Henrik finds John Quingberg and Jake Wman and Wman moves it across for Quingberg. Quingberg rink wide. Here’s Henrik drops for Kane. Kane across the ice settled down by Hyman. Heyman intercepted and Vegas will shoot it down. Great queen great keep in by Wman to keep this in the zone. Quingberg from the far corner will send this one around for Kane. Evander Kane steps into it and flings it back for Wman. Wman Kane top of the left circle had the shot adjusted for him. Hyman slowed up. Kane gets tied up. Henrik saved it. Here is Wman for Kade again. Kane shoots one banked off of Hill off the body down deep. Himing gets shoved and this will go out to the left point. Wman holds it in again. Kane back for Wman walking the point. Here’s Quainberg again. Steps in on the right circle. Quainber fires offhill and this will be settled down by the Knights. Chance to end it here short-handed. They’ll take this one inside. Quick shot bought up by Picker and the rebound swept wide. Quinberg’s all tied up. brings up space here for Henrik. Adam Henrik slowing the action down as the Oilers switch their top power play group. Queenberg intercepted, but this quickly makes his way back for Edmonton. McDavid starts up and for the far side I go out there on the ice. Conor McDavid down the middle. McDavid. Here’s McDavid trying to wrap it around. Can’t do so. He’s boxed out. Still holds the puck. McDavid high swat. Newton Hopkins. McDavid on the return feed. Bounce back for Bousard. Unloads a crapper. Bounce free. McDavid picks up in the near corner. Wants to go back for Bousard. Evan Bousard touches one up off of the right circle. Right side who had the winning goal in game four against LA. Post one through. It’s loose in front. Hill down. And Francis Chiron sees that Aiden Hill just keeps it out. Pure robbery. That sequence, man. I cannot believe this. Me neither. that Cory Perry had a chance for his sixth career playoff overtime winner, which would have moved him to a two-way tie for second with the Rockets. And and on the other way, Brett Howen with a little curl and drag that fluttered wide. Oh my good. This power play and penalty kill has brought us the best out of both teams on both the manage and shorthanded units. Time out here. If the Oilers don’t score on this fiveminute major, they’re going to lose. And that’s why they took if they don’t score on this power play, they will lose. That’s why they took the timeout. So has to regroup and get their plans here for for what could be the winning goal here at Las Vegas. But so far there’s not and neither neither team could have a qu neither team has really a queer advantage over one another in this overtime frame and so far not a lot of a and so far the two teams are woring each other out and Brandon S has some wars with John Quingberg and some Elvis impersonators in the building. Well, how else? It’s Las Vegas. Dry side and Eel. Dry side wins another. It’s Bard who walks the point for Nan Hopkins down low. McDavid. McDavid skates around the horn. McDavid’s match up by Eel and skates out of it. Dry Cidle holds and Bard Bard Rh back to Bard just held it as he overc it and Bard will find the open Dryidle with Aiko watching him. Rididle exchanges for McDavid. McDavid steps out to deploy. Here’s Bushard. One-time save Hill. He’ll cover a rocket that blazes through at 96 miles an hour. The king of the hill, keeping Vegas in this game level at four. Hill sees it the entire way off the one tire from Buchard. That’s the old Steven Stam coach Alex Ovichkin in play. It’s and Vegas still has over a minute to kill their fiveminute penalty. EO and Dryidle once again and Dryidle wins yet another faceoff. Bar walks the point. BAR waiting for an open lane. Buys McDavid and tie at the corner. Sets one up for Dryle. Stick collected by McNab. McDavid gets it back. Bard one more time. Looks towards McDavid’s direction. Instead finds R&H centering pass and that cannot be a glove on home. Bard Bard will find McDavid this time. McDavid to dry side. Back to Bard. One-time kicked out and it’s a rush for the puck. Here it will be Calvin Picker playing this one out away from Carlson. Up with speed. McDavid. McDavid. Carlin drag boxed out by Mark Stone as he gets it out and Picker will play it out again. Stretch pass for Dry Cidle. 15 on the fiveminute power play. Dryidle walks along center ice. 10 seconds. Dry Cidle ts one towards the crease and Hill covers up with six seconds on the man advantage. This is the overtime thriller that the fans have came and stayed for. 929 to play in the first overtime as you get the ice scrapage and both teams will take a de facto timeout. Six seconds to go in overtime. What is the plan? Um, just keep shooting. Yep. And we Yep. Keep shooting at the crease. Vegas have their fair share of short-handed chances though. And Edmonton had their chances here, but they had just not found the back of the net. Vegas has killed off every penalty so far in this series. And if they can kill this one off, that could be the energy they needed. Remember last year the Oilers killed off a fourminute double miner on McDavid for high sticking and that was the energy they needed to get the double overtime winner on the Dallas Stars in game one at the Western Conference final. Brett Hen, Ivan Barbashev, and Leon Dryido are the overtime heroes for their respective teams. We are guaranteed one team gets their first playoff overtime loss of the year. The shots are 3731 Edmonton, but that fiveminute power play has sort of inflated that and that was because of the cross check from Nick Wah. He is done for tonight. We have yet to see if Trent Frederick is going to return to the game. He had to leave the game because of taking that cross check to the face and he is on the bench. So now with six seconds left on this Oiler power play, you wonder who is going to strike here. This game has gone deep enough. We have seen the Oilers come out on the right end of track meets in past times, but in other times they have come out on the wrong end of it. They did win 5-4 over the Kings in overtime game four 2023 of a comeback in which they trail 3 nothing. Ball starting the face up. Adam Henrique will be tossed out. So Aander Kane will move in to take the draw. Opposite Jack Kel who’s been a workhorse on this penalty kill. Kyle Merchesen will drop the puck momentarily and it’s won by Eel. On the way back it’s Alex Mr. who fires a deep out front. No goal. somehow is kept in by Queenberg and on the box now it’s Victor Olison Olison gets forced away by Nurse Oilers under siegeman after eight shots through fiveminute power play it is still a 44 game Kane through the far corner brought to his knees Henrik will bring it back for Kane as Zack Hyman wants to bring it down low the Knights intercept it And they’ll go on the rush here over the near side. Glove down by Vander Kane. No offside here. Sticked away by the Knights. And they’ll move it down to the near side. Oliffson will send this one down. Pickard over the far corner where he places for Queenberg. Queenberg long out pass that bounced off a stick. So that negates the icing. First one back is Theodore. Sh. Fodor activates up. Theodore tried to set this one up but can’t decide. Here is Stone who gets tied up. Stone over to the far side left point got this one down low onto the far corner. Barbashev towards the goal. Picker the stop and he covers up the rebound. And it’s back and forth affair. William Carlson. Another overtime hero in the playoffs. Game three against San Jose 2018. Alex Petrangelo tried to clear one up front, but that bounced off Hill off the turnover. A sloppy pass. Hyman tried to bury the he buried the rip whip around pass. It just bounced off the crossbar. He couldn’t believe it. He thought he had the game on his stick. Hurdle and R&H. R&H takes it. It came dangerously close for Queenberg to put into his own net. And now behind the crease as it’s bounced off the near boards race for this pocket. It will be iced and we’ll see if that icing is going to be costly for the Oilers with 759 to go in the first OT 3731. The shots in favor of Edmonton. The longest OTC game has been the Manitoba Miracle. Trent Frederick has returned to the ice and that’s the best sight you could see here in Las Vegas. Eichel wins another faceoff. McNav gets rushed up to by Frederick with a far out Boris. The Knights just keep this one inside as Eel gets cut away by Wman and especially so here’s Eel moving back right behind the crease bar wraparound gets turned away by Pickard in time. Comes back to Theodore as he can’t hold the zone. A poke and a puck and it comes back to Raiden McNab off the far side moving back down low as Picker pointed out onto the near half boards. Vegas tried to hold it. It bounced over to the near half board still out towards the slot. Set up Eeko blocked right in front. Quainberg picks it up. John Quainberg moves it over for Wman. Jake Wman sets up front. Sets up shot for Connor Brown as he pursues his own dumpin. McNab gets away from Brown and the Knights throw this one down. That is the easiest icing ever. And what a mistake is Calvin Pickard made a couple big saves. This game comes down to which goalender can do just enough. And he did that without his stick. What a daring moment from Picker. He stopped the wrapound for Ivan Barbesev. If you’re the Oilers, you have to get your top white out there. And they will get their top white out there. Dry side up against Eel. A tie up on the draw. Perry tried to whack it in front, but McDavid backhands one. That was stopped by Hill. And this will be picked up by Mark Stone. Stone had two goals in game one. He fires his one around. Picker slowed it down. Play to Kak up the near side boards. Right side pass bounced off the skate of Sod Bard twist and turns around on this pass in front and that was stopped by Hill. Oh my goodness. On a loose chance in front. Riley Smith gets thrown down by Kak playing out towards the far corner. Kak and Bousard keep it alive. Evan Bousard walking behind Pickard moving this one out. It was 620 to go here and the first OT towards the boards at the far side. Hyman walks his way around. Hey, spins this all the way around. There was nobody at the left point. Jake Wman is gassed. Wman gets this down deep along the goal line. Hill plays it out over to White Crowd. Zack White got tied up by Vander Kane. Oilers trying to keep but the Knights will move it up the near side the ice. Here is Olson. He wanted the hattick that was fired wide. Held inside by Vegas with a near corner. Hurdle wants to flip it back but can’t do so. Deep shot on the turnaround was blocked in front of a body. Nent Hopkins backands one down deep off Kane and Whitecloud on the near corner restarting his hurdle. Moved it off the near side boards. Brandon Sod gets it down deep and a full change here for Vegas as it’s moved on by Edmonton trying to get this deep but can’t get any ground. Barbashev and Brunette Sain side fired it down deep. No icing here as Darno Nurse will play this one up. Baneer side but Kosen play this one deep. Bounced off a body and a rush for this puck. Arson won the foot race. Oh my goodness. Someone on Vegas is hurt. Braden McNab and Victor Arbitson got into each other at the near corner and McNab is favoring his forearm. He skates up under his power. But as they were racing for this puck, incidental contact, incidental contact, it looks to be the shoulder of McNab that got the worst of it. Could have been a penalty, but McNav will go down the tunnel. The Knights are down a forward and a defenseman now. W to a game misconduct. McNab to an injury. McDavid got turned away by Aiden Hill point blank to try to go out in front or actually hit the post. I thought that Hill got a piece of it, but no, it hit the post on the far side. one by Hyman and one by McDavid. That’s twice that the Oilers have struck the iron. You’d think that they’d be due for a game-winning chance. Shots are 3732 Oilers and at this point of the first overtime and fans are IRA on how that was not a penalty. Bard is the team leader of time on ice for the Oilers at 3327. That is the Conor McDavid at 2932. Ball start in the draw. Right side will be tossed out and now leave McDavid to sub in Could have been a penalty on Arbertson. He might have gotten away with one and fans are not happy with that call. Off the draw, Bard unloads one that gets blocked. Here’s the rush back for Mark Stone. Bard ties him up at the near side. Bard up the far side on this whipound pass. Fed up behind for McDavid. McDavid gaps around to Didle. score. No, or it isn’t. Yes, it isn’t. I thought it banked off the iron again. It’s went into the net. We on dry side with a second playoff overtime winner of this postseason. The Oilers who went to Alberta’s capital two games to nil with the series lead. Well, I called it right side. Oh my god. There was a wide open net as McDavid went flying. And we mentioned this earlier, Ian. You can only hold McDavid and Dry Cidle off the score sheet for too long. It doesn’t matter if you hold them without a point in regulation. If it goes to overtime, they are inevitable. Aiden Hill tries to make the sprawing save coast to coast, but instead he runs to Alex Petrangelo. That That puck exited so quickly. What am I? That one night here in Vegas that hit the middle bar that I I I didn’t know if it went in or not because it hit the middle bar and it ex out so quickly that I thought it went off the post. Yeah, same here. Wow, what a game. Oh, 54 the final score here at Las Vegas. And the Golden Knights are staring in at this and say, “What can we do now?” as McDavid completely put Jack Eel on roller skates on that play. Faked him out. Eichel’s one of the best two-way centers in the league and McDavid made him look like a fool. Oh my good. What a game, Ian. What What a match we just covered. And I’m happy to have you here for this one. Yes, sir. [Music] All right, it’s late and I’m gonna get I’m gonna get to sleep. But, uh, it was fun, man. It was a lot of fun. My next one. And uh hey, good luck to those hurricanes. Let’s go. Hey, good night Ian. Hope to see you again. Yes, [Applause] [Applause] sir. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Heat. Heat. [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Applause]

Live, recorded play-by-play and color commentary of Game 2 of the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs’ Western Conference Semifinals series between the Vegas Golden Knights and Edmonton Oilers with Ian Genge.

The 2015 NHL Entry Draft showed a wealth of premier talent. Mikko Rantanen, Mitch Marner, Dylan Strome and Kyle Connor were among the standouts in a draft class that will go down in history. But the top two will be talked about for many reasons. Connor McDavid went to the Edmonton Oilers first overall, followed by Jack Eichel, who went to the Buffalo Sabres second. They combine for 1,690 career points, the most productive one-two punch in a Draft since their selections. Their paths are intertwined in the Stanley Cup Playoffs again, with Eichel’s Vegas Golden Knights prevailing in a six-game series win in the 2023 Western Conference Semifinals. The Oilers took Game 1 of this year’s edition, 4-2, and while the rivalry is no Sidney Crosby vs. Alex Ovechkin or a McDavid vs. Nathan MacKinnon, it has the perks that makes these two very special players. When they started their careers, it didn’t create a lot of buzz, because they only played each other twice a season. Everyone recognizes McDavid as the best player in the league, having put up 153 points two seasons ago. Eichel had a slower rise to fame with the Sabres’ constant struggles, but broke out with a career-high 94 points in 77 games with Vegas this season. The two players are going to drive the narrative a lot, and that is certain, but when it’s all said and done, the question is who delivered when it mattered the most.
