I cannot wait to do some shows from there in Las Vegas because we will. Steve Sachs, I can guarantee you that. That sounds so stadium swim. Have you ever se Oh boy. Oh boy. All right, let’s get to the matchup of the day. This might be the matchup of the four games. This is important one, too. Yes, it is. Lawrence Butler hit 354 in 13 games against the Angels. That’s three doubles, a triple, three home runs, 12 RBI’s, and a 154 OPS. Going up against Soraniano tonight, the pitcher. He’s two for five with a home run. This offense needs to get going. And when that guy, Lawrence Butler, is swinging it, he brings the swagger. Yeah. To this ball club, the swagger has not been there, right? There’s something about Lawrence Butler that’s special. It’s infectious. And when Lawrence Butler is going good, he wears his emotions on his sleeve. I love that Marse likes it. So, we need Lawrence Butler get going to help everybody else get going. Yes. And I think it’s great that manager Kat put him at the top of the order. As Towny said, 354 last year, he’s 317 lifetime. He can flat out swing it. Look, sometimes you just have somebody else’s number. Sometimes they got yours, but Lawrence Butler has got the number for the LA Angels and he may put that on display tonight because he certainly has in the past. This is a guy that you got to put your chips on tonight to get things going and that’s why he’s in the leadoff slot. And you got to do little things right. Yeah. fundamentals, defense, throw to the right bases, make the plays. When you’re not scoring runs, you got to do everything else right. Manufacture them if you have to. All right? They’re not going out of the park with a long ball. Manufacture some runs. They can do that. Game one of the four game set between the Athletics and the Angels is next. And we’ll talk to you after the ball game. baseball. [Music] Your home for tower high power unbelievably hot and untouchable heat two slider down it goes and Miller is fired up now for the call of today’s game. Here’s Johnny Dasco and Shy Babbitt. Well, hi everybody. A gorgeous night here in West Sacramento. The A’s are home finally after a tough sixgame road trip having lost two of three to the Dodgers being swept by the Giants. But some really tight ball games and kind of a frustrating six games on the road, but the A’s they welcome the Angels to town for four. Hi everybody. along with Shy Babbot, Ken Cor, Chris Kerry, Chris Townsen, Jessica Klein, Cody Elias, Johnny Dawco with you. So glad you could join us again. A beautiful day. The pitching matchup tonight will feature the right-hander Jos Soraniano. He is 2 and four in the RA of 3.46. Goes against the right-hander JT Gin coming off the IIL. He was placed on the IIL on the 27th of April. So he’ll be making his fourth start of the season. His last start was against Texas back on the 24. three and two/3, six hits and three runs. Gan is healthy, ready to go and so should be fun today. So again, as far as the A’s are concerned, well, they come in 22 and 25. They’re five games off the pace in the American League West. The Angels are 20 and 25 and six games back to the Angels coming off a three-game sweep of the mighty Los Angeles Dodgers. Shooty, we’ll have the starting lineups. We return right after this. [Music] Wow, what a great day for baseball here in West Sacramento today. How about the Angels lineup right now? Leading off number nine playing shortstop, Zack Needle playing first base, Nolan Showing Web Batting third, standing in left field, Taylor Ward. Number 12, George Cerero will be the DA today. Number 14, Logan O’Hap will be sitting in the squad. Number 15, Matthew Ligo will be standing center field. Number two, Luis Ringo playing second base. And batting ninth, number seven playing right field, Joe Adele. Standing on the bunk for the Los Angeles Angels today, right-hand pitcher Jose Serriano sporting a two and four record with a 3.4 6 RA. be attacking the A’s with a bunch in his repertoire. And now, ladies and gentlemen, gracing the airwaves, my man Johnny. All right, Shy. Well, hey, let’s look. We got a we got a ball game today. And the Angels uh coming off that three-game sweep in the Mighty Dodgers. Isn’t that the great thing about the game, though, right? I mean, they’re the Dodgers coming off the 19-2 win over the A’s, a game of the Johnny Pareda pitch. We had the little uh kind of levity to the situation with with uh with Pareda striking out. Show Otani, you never want a position player pitching, but a tough loss 19-2 and then they go into uh they host the Angels and get swept. That’s a great part about this game. No question about it. And when you have a young team that does not have a lot of experience, each game is going to present its own challenge. I mean, if you look at the A’s schedule early on, I mean, playing teams that are picked to win the division or even have late runs in the postseason, but the A’s have stand have stood man-to-man with them. just come up short a couple of times, maybe an extra hit, a better pitch here or there, and the record would be a little different, but they’ve been competing, and that’s what you love to see. Well, I know there is big time respect uh both managers for each other, and you know, Kay thinks of uh Marsey thinks of Ron Washington in the in the highest regard. A lot of respect in that similar in personality, two guys that uh wore their emotions on their sleeves when they played. You know, Mark Cotay, he was a good player and he got every ounce of ability out of his when he was on the field. And a lot of times the character is a reflection of the team. This is uh two good managers for two teams for where they are right now and where they’re going because development is key. And these are two of the best in the business. Absolutely. Well, the A’s, you know, when you when you have a loss like that, I’ll tell you, Shy, it was a very quiet bus ride from San Francisco to Sacramento, as you can imagine. You’ve been a part of that. when you go through a couple of tough losses like that with not a lot of talking going on and you just have to regroup and know that there’s a tomorrow. Well, that’s a great sign. That means that a lot of players were down there with their feelings hurt and it should have been that way because you went on the road. You were a road really good road team when you left here and that was one of your strengths, but you ran into some problems and I don’t like to see guys having fun, a bunch of joy after a win. I’d like to see some heads dropped a little bit down in those computers and those books and looking at those notes. so they can find out exactly how they’re going to approach the game the next time they get in between the lines. Yeah, you know, the Giants game and the Wilmer Flores had a career night that first game of the series, three homers, drove in eight runs, but losing one- nothing in 10 innings, losing 2-1 after leading one- nothing, losing three to two. Those are the ones uh those are the ones that sting a little bit. Yeah. Well, they say, Johnny, if you haven’t been through anything, you haven’t been through anything. And either you’re pushing or you’re getting pushed. And they got pushed around a little bit, but you know what? This is what the game is all about. You know, I talk about it all the time. There is no league bigger than this league here. And if you have a small hole, they will expose it periodically. They do. They will expose it so fast as the right-hander G Tegan completing his warm-up toss and Zack Neto to lead things off. Neto came back with the club in midappril. He started the year on the IIL. Soto who’s a good looking ball player and as said on the pregame show we’re looking at two bright futures I the futures now with both these guys and Jacob Wilson Zach Neto and you know talking to Ron Washington early on today we had a great conversation early on you know Wash can’t have a conversation without being passionate and one thing he was eager and very happy about is just the maturation of some of his young players because he know how hard it is to be a big leager and to have the expectation of performing on everyday basis is a tough task, but he like the way that they’re maturing and seem to be twinning trending in the right way. So, let’s see if G can go out there and carve them up a little bit. Ron Washington, a players manager, wash legend and BT Gin facing Zack Neto. Netto five for his last 12. He’s hitting three straight. Great to have you with us here on this Monday night. And so so happy to have Shy Babbot with us here on our airwaves as the right-hander JT Gin looks in to get a sign. The right-hander to the plate in the first pitch to Neto is taken first right and it’s nothing and one defensively for the A’s. It’s Nick Curts at first base. Luis Guras at second. The short stop is Jacob Wilson. Miguel on Duhar was a scratch in this game as the right-hander looks in now to the play in the pitch that’s taken first right gets quickly nothing to G Roelle is at third with Tyler Sodestro in left JJ Blade in center Lawrence Butler in right doing the catching is Shay Langalers and on the hill the right-hander JT Gin Duhar a late scratch we’ll give you an update on him when we get the second baseman Diaz shaded up the as in at the belt now the right hand to the plate in the O2 pitch that misses away and it’s one ball and two strides. Well, you like to see a hitter get ahead early on 02 count the zone threw a nice slider down in the zone. You know, a competitive but a pitch that could not be hit. Right-hander from the first base side of the rubber and comes to the plate. The one-two pitch is swung on and missed. There he goes. So again with the strike out on Neto and there is one away. And here’s Nolan Showell, the first baseman. So much has been talked about the command and how easy JT Ken gets it done. And if this first at bat is any illustration of what he might have tonight, we can be in for a really great pitching match up. Absolutely. Here is Nolan Showell, the first baseman. Left-hand hitter holds a bat very high as into the plate and the first pitch misses inside. one ball and no strike. Now, when you’re coming off coming off the IIL as as Yin has, it’s easy. You first get into it, try to do too much too early. That just kind of pace himself as the right-hander at the belt. The one pitch to Showell is taken outside now 2 and 0. I think the hardest part is slowing down his heart rate. He wants to get back up here so badly and impressed. Um, this organization has a lot of admiration for what he’s able to do and early on it looked like he’s got his heart rate under control. Two and0 the count as the right hand of the plate in the 200 pitch that’s taken first strike. It’s now two and one. The umpires Malachi Moore at home plate. It is Andy Fletcher at first. Edwin Jimenez at second. Jansen Muscanti is over at third. Game number 48 on the year for the Athletics. They are 22 and 25 as the pitch is swung on a fly ball to right field. Butler just looks up and it is gone onto the burn. So Shaunell with his third home run of the year and just like that it’s one- nothing Los Angeles. Now Showell who’s now eight for his last 20 unloads, hits it over the bullpen and onto the burm and the Angels trying to pick up where they left off in Los Angeles. Yeah, this showing well kid is an interesting guy. Ron Washington inserted him in the leadoff hole last year and this is something that you just don’t see for a first baseman, but he could swing the bat and we didn’t know he had that kind of power. But uh definitely got to be careful with this guy in the future. Here is Yan Mona the third baseman. 226, three homers and 12 driven in. Batting from the left side as Gim delivers a strike on the outside edge and it’s nothing one. is wearing the Kelly Green uniforms with the white pants, gold sleeves as the right-handers 01 pitch that misses inside on Mona and it’s one and one. When Rendone went down again, Mona came in, he became the the third baseman. It has been a tough tough road for Anthony Rendone and the Angels. Here’s the 1-1 pitch that hits him. Just got away from Gin. It hit him. So, Monata hit with the pitch here. just ran in on Lanca. And that’ll bring up Taylor Ward. And I look down there at Lancata. I can recall when this guy was best prospect in baseball. I mean, the Boston Red Sox had a real gym. They figured he’d be a cornerstone player for a long time, but the bat just didn’t materialize. Some folks said that this kid got out of shape a little bit. He’s got a second chance here with the Angels and u after leaving the White Sock. So, we’ll see what happens. Here’s Ward. Ward sitting four straight, 197 on the year as he takes a little bit low, one ball and no strikes. Ward 12 homers on the year. He’s driven in 25 runs. So at first with one out and one in JT to the plate and the one pitch that’s taken for the inside edge and it’s one and one. the Ward who is 31 years old now. He’s the Angels number one picking out of Cal State Fullerton as the 1-1 pitch on the dirt. That’s now two and one on Taylor Ward. Of course, Mike Trout is out and that’s uh you know, look, it’s just been so frustrating for the Angels. Obviously, frustrating for Mike Trout. He wants to stay healthy. So, for the last several years, he hasn’t played in too many ball games. This is one of the best players in baseball when he’s at his peak. Probably the best. There’s a 2-1 pitch that’s taken high. Now, three and one. So tough for guys that are muscular like Mike Trout and played the way that he does. He’s an allout playing guy. Didn’t know anything about a 75% 90 down to first base. So, these are the issues that you have to deal with. All right, Andrew looks in three and one the count on Ward. The 3-1 pitch bounced down to short. Might be to Wilson will feed it to Ria on Curts. They get the double play and the inning is over. So a 643 inning ending double play, but the Angels get a run on the Shaw homer. One run, one hit, nobody left. Half an inning as the Angels won. Moments in baseball have been broadcast on the radio since 1921. Smith courts went into right down the line. It may go crazy, folks. Go crazy. It’s a home run and the Cardinals have won the game by the three to two and a home run by the Wizards. Catch the next unforgettable call on the MLB app and MLB.com. Take a hack at guessing which baseball player or manager said the following. I really don’t know what to say. I’m just uh so happy I gave something. These people cheer. We all did. We’re through the a starting line. Lawrence Butler leading off in right field. Jacob Wilson in that two slot. He’s the short stop. It’s Tyler Sodor batting third in left field. Grant Rooker’s the designated hitter batting fourth. Shay Langalers is doing the catching in the five slot. It’s Nick Curts at first base. Luis Urias batting seventh. At second base, JJ Blade at centerfield batting eighth. Gio Shell the third baseman batting ninth as Soraniano delivers and delivers inside to Butler. And it’s one ball and no strikes. Butler 227, six homers and 18 driven in 3.460. 46 right in the pitch. That’s bounced down third base line. Fair ball, base hit for Butler. Lawrence around first and he will dig for two as Ward gets it. A double for Butler. So Lawrence just taking that pitch down the third base line. His team leading 11th double of the year. And what a great sign for Butler just just rolling that pitch the other way. Johnny, that’s a great sign of any hitter. Whenever you can see a guy that’s seeing the baseball, letting the ball get deep in the zone, serving it wherever he wants to, wherever the pitcher uh delivers the pitch, I mean, and we saw some great at bats late in the series with the Giants. And we could tell that Lawrence was turning the corner. And that’s a great sign right there. That’s 11 doubles for Law. And here is Wilson. Jacob Wilson right-handed hitter as Sorano delivers in the pitch. Jacob picks inside one and0 defensively for the Angels. It’s Nolan Shaell at first base with Luis Rano at second. Zach Neto at short, Monata is at third with Taylor Ward in left. Matthew Lugo in center. Joe Adell in right as pitch misses now two and open doing the catching and the right-hander Jos Seraniano a 62% ground ball rate. He’s on the hill is shaded about six steps towards right center. Even the bag at third about 8 ft off the line. Joano’s two pitch. This is now three and0. You like Wilson in that two slot, right? Prototypical. Great situation for him here. He’s having a great at bat. They know he’s trying to hit the ball to the right side and Jacob won’t sell out and try to do something that he’s not capable of. Having a great at bat right here. The three 0 pitch is in there. First strike. It’s three and one. This first inning is brought to you by Hobblet Family dealerships. Hobblet has it. No hassle, no pressure ever. One- nothing Angels. in the bottom of the first inning. Wilson right side of an open stance is a 3-1 pitch taken outside ball four as a Wilson walks and the A’s now have runners on first and second, nobody out for Tyler Soderrung. A fine quality of a number two hitter is a guy who’s not afraid to get deep in the count. Um work the count a little bit. He’s got the ability to foul off pitches with two strikes. And after we witness here with Jake Wilson, he has some of the best hitting hands in our game that we’ve seen in a long period of time. Yeah. You know what, Shooty, we’re also witnessing kind of watching Wilson evolve and even become even more patient at the plate. Here is Soderstrom as Sodstrom takes a strike at the knees on the outside edge. First pitch knuckle curve and it’s nothing and one. Yeah, his age is well mature beyond his years, man. This dude is a baseball player in and out. All right, check second. The 01 pitch that’s swung on, chop foul at home plate and it’s nothing and two on Sodro. Bobby Crosby coaching at first. Eric Martin’s over there at third. Joining us here on this Monday night, game one of a sevengame home stand, four against the Angels and three against the Phillies this upcoming weekend. Should be a lot of fun. fans and join us as soon at the belt and the O2 pit. That’s in the dirt shift block that one curve and it’s now one and two. You know, just watching the club play over the last week and a half. Donnie, there’s a lot of opportunities that have presented theirelves like this. Getting runners on with nobody out. And this is what development is all about right here. Understanding how to get a good pitch and not hitting the pitcher’s pitch. There’s a one-two pitch that’s taken inside. It just missed and sink miles an hour now. Two and two on Soderstrom. Another left-handed hitter as Sorano from the first base side of the rubber looks in. Wilson at first, Butler at second. The pitch that hit him. It did. It got him in the foot. It was a curve ball and he is hit. Soder Scrum that loads the bases for Brent Rucker. No breaking ball and got him in the back foot. You can tell got a stung Sodston gingerly down that first base line. Was going to take some time over there at first base, but she’s all right. That’s what you call taking one for the team with a cost. Indeed. Indeed. Get hit on that baby toe down there, boy. It take you a little while to shake that bad boy loose, but um just goes to show you what a at bat like Jake Wilson can do. You know, he took some quality pitches. Didn’t chase out of the zone. Um understanding that they were trying to get him to hit a pitcher pitch with a runner on second base and nobody out. And because of the discipline, he was able to run up some pitches in that at bat and kind of got Soriano shook up a little bit out there. Yeah, bases loaded with nobody out. Consultation on the mound by Granite Expo. Gary Enright coach out there to check on So Grand Slam Savings 10 Northern California locations. Go to graniteexpo.com. So the A’s have loaded the bases with nobody out and Rooker the Brent 238 on the year. 10 homers and 22 driven in one for his last 18. Big strong right-handed hitter as Soraniano at Bel and delivers the pitch. That fast ball misses inside 97 and it’s one and0 on Rooker. He’s had some opportunities over the last few scoring positions. An opportunity itself here. with the one pitch. Swung on, bouncing the right side’s going to score a run and Heath is second for one. On to first, they get the double play. So the 463 double play, but on the play, Butler scores. The A’s have tied it up at one. No RBI for Rooker as Wilson moves to third. Two outs, but a runner on third, but you do get the run in. Here’s Langalers. and they drove in a run. But you know, we were looking for some big time things happening with Rooker because facing Soraniano, he’s did a lot of damage against this young man in his early career. And I mean, he’s a tough customer out there. He’s got great stuff, Donnie. Here’s Langelers. He a little chopper up long. Might be trouble. It will be trouble. Moana loves it, throws to first and it’s too late. The Langelers with the infield single. Wilson scores and the A’s lead two to one. You talk about speed and Shay a little dribbler up that third baseline. You knew he was going to beat it out and he picks up his 24th RBI of the year. And I know the late great your great friend Ray Bossy whenever someone would say runs well for a catcher. Hey, he runs well period. Right. Absolutely. And you know when you look at Langaliers, I mean typically for a catcher, I mean these guys number one the most important thing is their receiving abilities. If they can hit a little bit and hit with power, that’s a bonus. But to have to be a triple threat and be able to run like he does, I mean, this cat is one of the fastest, if not the fastest catcher in the league. No question. Hands down. Here is Nick Curts, 219, a homer, and six driven angle through his first big league slump. Big left-handed hitter as he takes a strike on the first pitch, knuckle curve, and it’s nothing to one. Nick who yesterday went 0 for four so he is two for his last 24 stop Netto shaded up the middle 2-1 the A’s lead it as pitch misses outside now one ball one strike two runs two hits for the A’s one run one hit for the Halos where we are bottom of the first inning and a warm but pleasant night here in West Sacramento Sacramento Langalers takes his lead. Soraniano delivers on the 1-1 pitch that misses outside with a sinker. Now two balls in one strike. You look at Langelers at bat. Tell you the importance of putting the ball in play, not striking out. Just get a piece of it. You might beat something out and lo and behold, we score a run. There’s a pitch to Curts. Big swing and a miss. trying to make it a 4-1 game with unfortunately the guy was on the curve ball helmet came off mighty cut by Kurtz and now two balls and two strikes on Nick Luis Gurus would be next and Sorano at the belt now the two- two pitch from the right end runner goes the pitch is outside the throw to second base and it’s not in time the ball came loose so a stolen base for Shay Landal The throw was low by Hoppy and Neto tried to dick it out and apply that tag on Langlers and the stolen base for Shay. Running in scoring positions now three and two on Curts. He he holds on there. No question. Shay is out at second as Sorano to the plate. The 3-2 pitch that’s bounced from the right side field in second out by Sha. feeds. Soraniano covering in time. The inning’s over, but A’s got a couple of runs, two runs, two hits. A walk at batsman and one left. We’re through an inning. It’s the A’s two and the Angels won. Take a hack at guessing which baseball player or maners had the following. I really don’t know what to say. I’m just uh so happy I gave something. These people cheer. We all did. I mean, it was a great game. Both teams played incredible. It was a great game. JT pitching for the lead pitching with the lead for the first time and he will face Jorge Solair to lead things off. Solero Hoppy and Lugo 56 and seven as JT to the plate. The first pitch is taken for a strike. First pitch slider and it’s nothing one. Second inning brought to you by American Furniture Galleries, your family-owned furniture store since 1991. Here’s the 01 takes inside and it’s one ball one strikes 218, six homers and 16 driven. He struggled in the month of May hitting a buck 70 into the plate in the 1-1 pitch. That’s in there for a strike. the inside edge. I tell you that sinker goes that sinker inconsistently. When it’s on, it’s tough. No doubt. And it is a definitely a knuckle seeker for sure. And he’s shown that he’s not afraid to pitch inside tonight. There’s a one-two pitch. That’s a fouled. And you know, Johnny, on that note, you know, he has a great slider. In order to set that pitch up, he needs that fast ball that he can swing back. You know, even a home run that he gave up, it wasn’t a bad pitch. Joan well just pulled his hands in and gave and put a pretty good swing there. Yeah, sometimes you have to keep your cap. One and two the count as the right-hander looks in. Here he is shaded up the middle. The pitch that’s waved at a missed on the slider. Down he goes. What a pitch. Second strike out for Gin. That’s exactly what you said. It was set up and perfect pitch blown away. What they call that is the art of pitching. You cannot have both sides as a hitter or a pitcher. You get that guy thinking inside. You get his feet moving. Get that left eye going left a little bit. You break that slider off on him. Good night, Irene. Indeed. Here is Oh, 25210 homers and 23 driven in as the pitch from Kim misses and it’s one ball and no strikes. Two-1 A’s in the top half of the second in. Good crowd on hand on this Monday night. again looks in now the right hand of the plate in the one pitch that’s swung on a miss to sinker elevate a little bit one and one the count with his first career major league home run against the Athletics at the Coliseum 1-1 pitch that’s taken down and away two balls in one swag you know you face your own division 13 times now it used to be 19 times time. So, it makes each game you play against your division foe even that much more important shooty. Two and one the count as right-hander Gin looks in another 2-1 pitch that swung on and smacked into left field for a base hit. So, a one out single for Oh, the bottom of Matthew Lugo, the center fielder. And you bring up a great point, Johnny, especially as crowded as it is in this division. even though the Mariners are winning this division right now. I mean, the A’s are just three or four games away from just, you know, having a hot streak and being right back in it. So, can’t pay too much attention to the standings right now. Just got to go out and win a game each day. Let the results speak for themselves. No question. As Matthew Lugo, nine for his last 25, actually 94 for 25 this year, right-handed hitter as he takes a strike and it’s nothing and one’s lead 2-1. We’re in the top of the second. Don Thomas in. He’s out of Mississippi State. He’s at the belt and the 01 pitch that misses with the sinker and it’s now one ball, one strike on Matthew Luggo. Would that be getting coached by the great Ron Pope down there? I would think so. Yeah. Turned out a lot of good baseballs out of that program. Lugo. Lugo just turned 24 10 days ago in the 1-1 pitch. That’s taken for a strike. A high strike and it’s now one and two on Luggo. Lugo originally a Red Sox number two pick in the 2019 draft in Puerto Rico. First taste of the big leagues this year just got called up. There’s the one-two pitch. Waved at a miss. Down he goes. There’s that slider. That’s the third strike out for Gin. And the second strike out this inning on the slider. What makes a slider so effective, Johnny, is that it’s late and the tilt on it. You know, there has become a pitch that is fashionable to call it a sweeper. And that pitch typically doesn’t have any tilt. It just slides across the zone with a little depth, but not a whole lot of tilt. That ball just just spit right out of his arm. Here is Luis Renifo. Switch hitter batting from the left side. He takes inside. It’s one and0 218 a homer 10 driven in. Even struggling. Usually see Reno uh way higher in the lineup. Strange to see him in the eight slot as at the belt. Wy takes his lead from first. JT’s 10 pitch that misses low. It’s now two and 0. You’re absolutely right, Johnny. He’s a very good player and plays all over the place. He’s had some injuries this year. Um because typically he does hit at the top of the order. I mean, the guy can hit and he can hit for power. He said some big hits for them over the years is is seven for his last 39 as Gin at the belt. The two pitch that’s taken outside now three and0 on Reno. Look at that shutdown inning. Talk about those two great starts from Springs and Severino yesterday and Saturday and a combined 12 and two/3 innings and one run. Here’s the 3 0 pitch taken for strike. It’s now three and one on Reno. struggling offensively as said eight runs in the five games but hitting two runs in the bottom of the first here. They lead it two to one as Janet Develop and a 3-1 pitch is swung on hit into left field for a base hit. So Reno goes the other way as he singles left and Angels now first and second two outs for the right fielder Joe Adele. you see a player of Ring GeFo’s abilities, you just hope that he continues to struggle until he leaves here, right? You know, figure it out here. But that right there was just an example the type of hitter he is. JT has been very tough on the outer part of the plate, paying attention over there and he serves in the left field. Well, here’s Adele. And you know, you and I have talked about Adele a lot over the years. And here’s a guy that said when he came up, he saw so much potential in this young man as to the plate and the pitch to Joe has taken outside maybe a little high, one ball and no strikes. And it’s one of those guys that hit so well at Triple A and he gets exposed at the big league level. Want to know the count, but he does have crazy pop. There’s no question. Right-hander looks in now. The one pit that Swan bounced on two off to the short side to his right is right making the plays. Wilson goes to third alertly and the inning is over. Nice play by Jacob to his right. Good presence there. It’s 65 on the put out. No runs, two hits, two left. We’re through an inning and a half. It’s the A’s two and the moments in baseball have been broadcast on the radio since 1921. Smith Clarks one in right down the line. It may go. Go crazy, folks. Go crazy. It’s a home run and the Cardinals have won the game by the three to two and a home run by the Wizards. Catch the next unforgettable call on the MLB app and MLB.com. It’s a great night for baseball. That’s Mike Piaza after he hit an eighth inning go-ahead home run in the first New York Mets home game after 911. Hear moments like this and more on the MLB app and MLB.com. Wrangler for the right of we go to the bottom of the second. 2-1 Athletic. Second inning of tonight’s game brought to you by American Furniture Galleries, your family-owned furniture store since 1991. So, here’s Luis. And as we said, I mean, King getting that shutdown in him. No question about it. And I think it’s so important for the A’s to continue to stay aggressive and add on a few more runs for this kid. You know, he’s out there battling and um you want him to be out there knowing he can go out there and not make one pitch and it be the difference of a game. Jose Seraniano to the plate and the pitch to Arias misses inside. One ball and no strikes. Two runs, two hits for the A’s. One run, three hits for the Angels. A one of a four game set Mona a few feet off the line with the bag as Soraniano delivers a strike. Sink at 97 bounce one. A couple of power sinker ballers out there with Guin and Soraniano. Huh. You have Soraniano rushing it up there at 97 mph and has a curveball to go along with that change up in that cutter. I mean, when you were playing Chy as a 1-1 pitch that misses two in one, do you ever think you see a day that Nova throwing 100 mph sinker on a 99 mph sinker? It’s a different deal now, huh, man? The average fast ball used to be 94 I mean 90 miles an hour. It’s up to 94 right now. There’s a pitch that’s in their first right in the first pitch or a curveball, I should say. It’s now two and two on. What a great pick up for the A’s here. I mean, he stepped in at second base. My’s struggling as a youngster and all he’s done is provide a stop for a gap over there. Some big hits, too. 2-2 is lifted foul right side out of play. Can’t say enough about a veteran sitting on the bench waiting for an opportunity and finally getting that chance, but he signs here late. Yeah, it was a great sign because he did not have a great year last year. There’s the two- two pitch. That’s little dribbler up the third base line. Charging. Moa loves it on the run. Throws to first in time and there is one away. So 53 on the put out. That will bring up the center fielder JJ Leay. You make a great point. Brius had hit 195 last year about buck 95 the year before and that’s why he didn’t find a lot of teams calling for him. Here’s a veteran guy that can play all three positions. Maybe just a couple of days in shortstop in an emergency, but he definitely fulfills the need and um we’re very fortunate to get him. Well, here’s Leeday. JJ 205, six homers, 18 driven in, but swung bounce right side and threw for a base hit for JJ Le and Leed wasting no time. He singles to right and just got to keep waiting for JJ to bust out of it. That’s that’s a good sign. Big first first hit first hit single. Beautiful sight. I mean, watch JJ putting in a lot of work today in the cage. Just staying back, trying to make hard contact, getting on top of the baseball a little bit. A lot of times you get anxious, you struggling a little bit, you want to elevate, try to crush something. When you simplify things, big things happen and that’s huge for him right there. Here is Gioella as rightander delivers. The pitch misses high one. a first hit single in the department of redundancy department. But yeah, it was a first pitch single for JJ Bladeet or Shella 226, no homers and 12 driven in as Soraniano at the belt and the one pitch that is in there for a strike on the sinker and it’s now one and one late scratch. So shell in there today being held on over there by Shaell’s a one-1 pitch got the swing. Did he go? He did. Says first place umpire Fletcher and it’s now one and two on Gio. Speaking on Blade Johnny, you know a lot of times when you’re struggling it seemed like JJ was 02 every at bat here of late. So what do you do? Get aggressive. Get something you can handle right away and that’s what you do. Bust something O. You look at the averages O and 10. You’d be surprised what they are as far as the difference behind in the count. One two pitch strike three called than Rela knew it. It was a sinker. So that is the first strike out for Sorano. And when he’s on his game, he’s not he’s more of a ground ball guy, right? That was a good pitch on the outside edge. That is a pitcher pitch. 97 on the black at the knees. You have no choice but to go take a seat because ain’t nobody in the game can hit that one. Not much you can do with that one. Here’s Butler. Lawrence doubled and scored in the first inning. His 11th double of the year which leads the club’s leading 2-1. Bottom of the second as the runner goes. The pitch is low. The throw to second base. The tag and he is out. So the tag by Neto goes 26 on the caught stealing and was out by plenty. No runs to hit. Nobody left. We’re through two. It’s the A’s 2 and the Angels won. Your day in baseball starts with MLB Central. Let’s get it started. Take a hack at guessing which baseball player or manager said the following. I really don’t know what to say. I’m just uh so happy I gave something. These people cheer. We all did. I mean, it was a great game. Both teams played incredible. It was a great game. That’s Mike Piaza after he hit an eighth inning go-ahad home run in the first New York Mets home game after 911. Hear moments like this and more on the MLB app and MLB.com. We go to the top half of the third. It’s a 2-1 A’s lead. Third inning of tonight’s game is brought to you by Premier Pools and Spas and Zach Neto will lead things off against JT. It’ll be Neto Showell Monata. Starting the line at third is Ursella as the right-hander delivers a bit swing on top foul at home plate from Neto and the count is nothing and oneto five for his last 13 280 on the year. Seven homers 15 driven in. There’s the 01 pit that misses now one ball and one strike. As you said, he started the year on the IIL. He’s the Angels really need this year native of Miami, Florida. Coral Park High School fits that. This is inside the netto and it counts two balls in one strike. Good defensive short stop. And he can hit. I mean, the Angels uh they’re going to lock him up long term, you know, at some point. Right-hander comes set. Two-1 pitch. Look out. Misses up and in. Almost hit Neto. It’s now three and one. You know, Johnny, this is an organization that has had a host of great shorts stops. You can think back to the great David Xstein. It just seems to go on and on and on. These kids. Yeah, they just come up and they just play. They’re two-way guys and they always are very good defensively. Yep. It’s Scoffield. Three and one. The count on Neto. Rightander with the belt. The 3-1 pitch. That’s in there first. Fast ball. It’s now three and two. What’s the kid’s name from Parisel that played over there for the long bowlegged kid? Ended up playing for the Braves also. Uh short stop there. Raphael Folk. No, but we’ll get to rightand hitter. Three and two the couch. I know who you’re talking about. PI will get it for us. Yep. Three and two the count. Rightander at the belt and a 3-2 pitch. That’s it. Foul side out of play off the facade crowd. Three and two. 2-1. The A’s are leading. We’re in the top half of the third inning. Calls from Republic. 3-2 B. Softline drive into center field for a base hit for Neto. So Neto with a leadoff single here. It’s the fourth hit for the Halos. And that’ll make him Nolan Showwell. I think you praised him up just a little too much. Too much. Yes, indeed. Good piece of hitting. Stand up the middle of the diamond. You like to see the guys that play in the middle be able to use that pole and work it around a little bit. It’s part of the package. It’s quite obvious he’s demonstrated that at this level that he’s able to do that. 2-1 the score. The A’s lead runner on first. Nobody out. Shauna who homerred in the first inning and the pitch is taken outside and the count is one ball. I think I’m going to get it. I think I’m going to get it right here. I think I’m going to get it. Yes, Angel Simmons. All right, you got me. Oh, want to know the count on Shaell. Left hand hitter. Holds the bat very high as into the plate. The one pit that’s in the dirt now. Two balls and no strike. One thing I’m enjoying about Gen’s outing, even though he got one up and in a little bit early on, as you watched early on, those that are watching it on TV, when he pulled his hands in so quickly, just a good bit of hitting, but he’s keeping the ball down in the zone for the most part. Can’t get hurt when you’re pitching down. Wilson shaded up the middle. Third baseman well off the line as right-hander delivers and delivers outside, but the change up. Not throwing too many of those. Now three and 0 on Shaunell. And the Eagles coming off that sweep of the Dodgers in LA. They’re really struggling before that. Not a very big lead for Neto over there as the pitch that’s in there. First right now three and one on Shaell. Can you imagine how Wash has been able to build on that three-game series, letting this young team know that we just beat the world champions, letting you know we can play within it. No doubt. It’s one thing taking two out of three, right? you feeling good about yourself, but getting the sweep. There’s a 3-1 pitch. That’s taken first drive. Good pitch on the outside edge. A sinker at 93 from Gin. And it’s now 3 and2. Tibetto is off on this pitch. Great pitch sinker on the edge. again. He peers in as Neto takes his lead at first and the runn goes. The pitch is swung on. A drive to right field. Butler going back. Still going back. Looks up and it’s going to be off the base of the wall. Digging for two. Shaw. The throw to second. It’s going to be close. The tag and he’s safe. It’s a double for Shaunell. We’ll see if they look at it. Stopping at third base is Neto. So Showell picks up the two base hit and we’ll see if they take a look and they’re not going to take a look at it. So Shawell picks up his eighth double of the year. Hit the base of the right field wall there and Butler with a good throw on one hop to Jacob Wilson, but Chowwell able to beat it. Bang bang play. Just didn’t get that left hand in. And here is Yan Mona the third baseman with the go-ahead run standing at second base. Second and third nobody out as Gin to the plate in the pitch that’s swung on a miss. Good change up. It’s nothing and one. Man, Johnny, you know Butler made a great throw from right field. It was just a better slide at second base by Shaun Will. I mean, hook slide past the bag, reach back in with his left hand. That’s the only reason why he was able to get in there. Tremendous job. It was on one the count on Monata. Taylor Ward the on deck hitter. Here’s the pitch. The one that this is inside of Mona. It’s now one and one. A leading at 2-1. Top half of the third inning. It’s cool off a little bit. Nice night here in West Sacramento. A little warmer now as the right-hander at the belt and the one-1 pitch. That’s a ground ball on the right side. Score a run. Made it the second half as Yuria on to first. There is one away on the play. Neto scores. Shaunell to third and it’s now a two-2 ball game. So Monata picks up his 13th RBI of the year. And that’ll bring up Taylor Ward, the left fielder. Ward grounded into a 643 double play in the first first inning. The infield comes in. So Curts, Maria, Wilson, and Urella all come in. Shell actually is behind the third base bag now. Pitch taken outside. It’s 1 and0. A big spot here for JT Gin. JT at 53 pitches on the night. and he’s thrown 29 strikes. There’s the one pit that’s in there for a strike on the slider and it’s one and one. Yeah, the idea was to try to get up up about 85 and 90 pitches. Typically, he can get through five innings. It’s going to be very difficult for that to happen. Taylor Ward has done some serious damage against the especially the 2023 season. Here’s the 1-1 pitch. That’s in there for good pitch and that sinker. It’s now one and two on Ward to our score. Top half in the third. Rightander again looks into Shay. Another one two pitch. Checks his swing on the slider and he did not go. Now two balls in two strike. Taylor Ward 195 on the year. 12 homers driven in 25 run two pitch. That swan drive to deep left field going back. Soderstrom looks up and it is gone onto the clubhouse and it’s 42 Angels. Though for Taylor Ward that’s his 13th of the year and RBI’s 26 and 27. And there was no doubt off the bat and that was 387 ft. 108 off the bat. And I was going to speak of this young man. I’ve been watching him ever since he came out of college and started out as a catcher, moved to first base, really couldn’t find a position for him. But the one thing that allows you to stay in the lineup is what he just did. He can always swing that thing, man. And he is one dangerous dude. Here is Jorge Soler. 4-2 Angels. They retake the lead and the pitch in there for a strike. Going to sinker and it’s nothing and one struck out swinging in the second inning. Five for his last 31 as Genzo one pitch checks a swing and this is inside. It’s now one and one on Solair 33 years old. of Cuba. Here’s the 1-1 pitch. That’s in there for a second. A high strike on the sinker and it’s one and two. See, he got tingling time with the Cubs, the Royals, the Braves, the Marlins, Giants. Back to the Braves. And now the Angels bounced around. There’s a pit. That’s a chopper foul for the A’s dugout. Reigns at one and two. You know, one thing about him when they acquired him, this dude has hit 30 homers in this league a few times. And when you get him, you feel you’re acquiring a guy that’s going to hit a bunch of homers. He’s been somewhat of a disappointment for the Angels thus far. Judy, his 2019 season with the Royals. Credible. There’s the one-two pitch. That’s outside just off the edge that slider. It’s two and two. That year in 2019, 48 homers, 117 driven in 265, 33 doubles, 82 extra base hits was the two- two pitch. That’s chopper foul remains at two and two. And if you look at those teams when acquired, it was with a purpose uh be inserted in the middle of the lineup and provide some thunder. And the last couple teams kind of come up short. Looks in a two- two pitch to Jorge Solair. Swung on and miss. Down he goes. He got him on the change up. They’re well out in front. So that is the fourth strike out for Gin. Two away. And that will bring up catcher Logan Ohappy. Tied him up pretty good with that fast ball running back in. I mean, he’s had a lot of success with that. Just couldn’t get it in far enough against Warden and he was able to extend his arms and dude’s got a quick bat. Keeps it on a plane, flat plane. And not the first time I’ve seen that. Here’s Oh, who singled in the second inning. Funny you when you when you’re scouting and you see guys, it it just it’s such an inexact science, right? And you can look at all the tools. We talked about a little bit in the pregame show. just don’t know how how guys are going to develop mentally, right? How how they’re going to understand failure, how they’re how tough they are. You can you can do all the homework you want, but until you know, you don’t know really know what’s in here as far as heart’s concerned until you he plays a few years, right? And you’re talking about young men. And I mean their bodies are going to develop where they may not be able to fit in the position that you’re inserting in at that time. Especially a lot of shortstops because they’re the best player on the field, but typically their bodies expand and they end up moving off shortstop. So some things you just cannot project. Um the skill set typically will tell you the tools definitely will tell you, but it’s all about what’s underneath that chest. Just like you said, John 0 and one on get to the plate. the 01 pitch. That’s bounce foul outside third and down the line. That’s Bo Porter. It’s nothing in two. Bo Porter actually was uh was an original Sacramento Rivercat in 2000. He was the starting center fielder for the Sacramento Rivercats in their inaugural game at this ballpark May 15th, 2000. Center fielder was the man coaching third base right now. Borter 0 and two. That was the 02 pitch. That misses and it’s now one ball and two strikes. Yeah, he was getting around a little better back then. Yeah, old B looked like OG down there like the rest of us now. Boy, look good in the red and gray. Oo, one and two count on Logan O’Halled and Logan Oh knew it. That was a sinker. So that’s his fifth strikeout, but the damage done. Three runs in the inning. A two-run homer by Ward. Three runs, three hits, nobody left for two. Let’s see if we can figure out the following baseball slang term. Next phrase is oppo taco. Do you know what it means? taco. A home run hit to the opposite field. Taco. His 13th. It’s a one-run game. Expand your vocabulary by listening to every game on the MLB app and MLB.com. Let’s pause for station identification on A’s Cast Hawk 650 KST in the A radio network. 42. The A’s are trailing. Lawrence Butler leading things off here in the third as Sorama delivers in the pitch and misses inside. It’s one of the incomparable Shy Babbitt and Ken Cory Chris Towns and Jess Clment. Cody Eli Johnny Dawa with you. Nice to have you with us here on this Monday night as Soraniano at the belt other left-handed hitter and the one pitch that’s taken first right from the inside edge and it’s one and one. Four runs, six hits for the Angels. Two runs, three hits for the A’s. Butler doubled and scored in that first inning 232 as pitch was taken low with a curveball and it counts two and one. You know, I interviewed Butler three days ago or let’s see four or five days ago in LA before one of the Dodger games. Here’s a 2-1 pitch that’s taken low, three and one. He had that look and he said, “Look, I’m about to get going here.” and and you know there’s a confidence to him and he knows once he gets on that roll uh it’s all over as the right-hander at the belt. The 3-1 pitch to Butler that’s taken low ball four which tells you he’s seeing it better now as he walks to lead off the third. It’s just the quality of the at bats, Johnny. Uh I saw an at bat against the Giants where it was about a five pitch at bat which he walked and he didn’t offer and not one pitch and some of them were close but they weren’t hitters pitches. And when you see a hitter with an approach like that, then you know he’s locked in. And um as you know, when Lawrence gets locked in, he can do a tremendous amount of damage. Indeed. Wilson walked and scored in the first inning. Third inning of tonight’s game is brought to you by Premier Pools and Spasa even with the bag two feet off the line. Middle infield and double play depth as pitch to Wilson. Chop foul at home plate and comes out. I got his foot. So Wilson a little bit. Takes a little walk. See if they check on him. Johnny, you know, as good as Sorano’s stuff is today, his command is not great. And I think NBA is going to get back into this game against Soraniano, they’re going to have to continue to work him over in the box. You know, work that count a little bit, make him make a mistake. You see, he’s missing a lot on the auto part of the zone. So, don’t help him out. See if we can do something with it. Here’s the 01 pitch that misses inside and the count is one to one. Yeah, 40 40 pitches in just 19 strikes your point for right-hander Jose Soraniano 63 200 pounders and San Domingo Dominican Republic. His 26th has pitches swung on and fouled away on the knuckle curve. It’s now one ball two strikes. Now look, Jacob Wilson, a guy that we’ve seen the hitters, right, that with two strikes, they get even more locked in. I’m certainly not comparing Wilson Gwyn or Bogs or, you know, any of those great two strike hitters, but he’s tremendous with two strikes. Uh, as Sorano with the belt and the one two pitch from Soraniano swung on, hit up the middle and threw for a base hit. Butler to second base. He will hold there. So Wilson a sharp single up the middle. It’s now first and second, nobody out for Tyler Soderstrom. Well, that’s what you call pay the cost of trying to be the boss. Soraniano has been pitching him inside this hole at back, but instead of running a two seamer in on him, he tried to cut one and he cut it right back over. And you see Jacob pulls his hands in so well in order to keep him to be able to fight in the middle of the field because as long as you pull those hands in that keep you from rolling over and turning over, man, this dude is outstanding. You spoke on his ability, Johnny, and just showed up right there. There is Soderstrom. Two on, nobody out. Here’s the pitch to Tyler. A little dribbler foul toward circle the Angels. It’s nothing and one. 42 Angels. We’re in the bottom half of the third. Butler let off with the walk. Wilson a sharp single to center. And now Soderstrom who was hit with a pitch in the first inning with a slider back foot spins around trying to keep Butler closed. Outfield pretty deep. Center fielder Lugo deep center as the 01 pitch is swung on this. He tried to hold up on the sinker but could not. now nothing to do early on. This club is doing a great job with hitting with runners in scoring position and that’s something that definitely is going to have to pick up again because we’re giving oursel an opportunity but the bottom line you got to come through in these situations knowing if you’re going to win games. It was struggling in that Giant series. The O2 pitch is swung on and missed on the splitter. Down he goes. 92 mph split finger fast. So he strikes out Soderstrom and that is the second strike out for Soraniano. There is one away and here is Rooker trying to gear up for 9697 and he drops a change piece at 92 at the bottom of the strike zone. And great movement on here is Rooker grounded into a 463 double play in the first and he actually brought home Butler right-handed hitter Soraniano to the plate and pitch. That’s when Chopper fouled into the netting of the A’s dugout and the count is nothing and one beginning of today’s game brought to you by Pools and Spons. Remember tomorrow, it’ll be the right-hander Kyle Hendrickx, the former Cub against right-hander Gunner Hogan. Hope you join us as the 01 pitch taken low with the sinker. It’s now one ball, one strike on Rooker. On Wednesday, it’ll be Jack Mahanowitz and JP Sears. There’s the 1-1 pitch. That’s in the dirt. Stopped by Oh, now two balls in one strike. And then on Thursday afternoon, Tyler Anderson, the veteran lefty against the right-hander Luis Severino. Pitching match ups. The A’s and Angels. Two and one the count of course hit his 30th home run on the final game of the regular season against the Angels. The runners go. The pitch is outside. There’s no throw now. Three and one. So the A’s execute that double steal as Wilson to second, Butler to third, and the A’s now second and third. It’s a 3-1 count on Rucker. Well, you’ve got to love the A’s are not just going to sit in their hands and wait for something to happen. We start talking about manufacturing runs all the time. The A’s are putting runners in movement or in action right now. Hoping some good things happen. Here’s a 3-1 pitch. Rooker takes outside and now they’re loaded for Langalers. Now that’s the second walk issued. Third walk issued by Sorano. Harry Enright, the pitching coach of the Angels out there to check on the right-hander. So Langlers with a chance here. Base is loaded with one out here in this third inning. This consultation on the mound is brought to you by Granite Expo. Grand Slam savings with 10 Northern California locations. Go to graniteexpo.com. The big spot for Shay here. Right man in the right place. Johnny been swinging a great bat and coming through with runners in scoring position. I don’t think at this time we’d want anybody else up in this situation. Bangali with a single in the first inning. He’s been a hot hitter. I mean, he has 12 hits in his last 33 at bats. Now, at first, Wilson at second, Butler at third. Just like to see him elevate something, you know, get something in the air. Worst case scenario, come out here with a sack flyers. right-handed hitter. He’s trailing 4-2 here in the bottom half. Benny number three at 50 pitches, 25 strikes. He’s at the belt and a pitch to Shay. Big swing and a miss on the sinker. It’s nothing and one at 98 miles hour. Go pretty deep as Rooker, Wilson, and Butler take their leads. as the 01 pitch that’s taken low with a curve ball and it’s one ball and one strike. Migler’s at 255 now with eight homers coming in 24 to the plate. Here’s the one-1 pitch. That’s Chase to miss on the slider and it’s now one and two on Shayano. seven last year. 3.42 RA for the Angels. Big spot here for Langers. The on hitter is Nick Curts. Base is loaded here with one out as Jose Sorano at the plate in the one-two pitch. Chased and missed. Down he goes. as he got him on the curveball. Couple of good curve balls there from Soriano. He picks up his third strike out. There are two outs. And here’s Nick Kurts. Absolutely filthy. I mean, everything is power. Power curve ball. Power fast ball, power change up, if you will. Man, that’s a tough. There’s Curts. Curts bounced out to Shaell, the first baseman in the first inning. 0 for one as the chop foul at home plate for Curts and it’s nothing and one 42 A’s are trailing in the bottom of the third goes one in the first three in the third the A’s with two in the first Nick Curts 22 years old play the open stance from the left side is the 01 pitch from Soraniano that’s a fast ball for strike I think we’re at 100 and it’s now nothing in two on thirds. You didn’t see none of this in last week. No, I was going to say that. She put the words right out of my mouth. Oh, and two count. Zoraniano played the O2 pitch. That’s in the dirt for the splitter. Now, one ball and two strikes. would be next. Rooker from first, Wilson from second, Butler from third. The one-two pitch that misses high now. Two balls in two strikes. That was actually a fast ball at 99. It’s two and two on Curts. There’s the 2-2 offering. swung on and missed on the curve ball. Down he goes. Some great pitching by Soraniano. Striking out Langalier, striking out Curts. And the inning is over. No runs. Hit two walks and three left. We’re through three. It’s a 42 Halos lead. And in the fourth, Matthew Lugo will lead things off. It’ll be Lugo Renifo and Adele 789 to face Gin as JP to the plate with it. That’s taken high. One ball and no strikes a base loaded one out and Soraniano able to strike out Langalers able to strike out Curts. This is now two and0. Lugo recorded his second career homer on Tuesday. Second as a pinch hit two pinch hit homers for the Angels two and horn on Matthew Lugo. In fact, second player in Angel history that his first two major homers come as a pinch hitter was a 2-1 pitch. That’s in there for strike two and two. I tell you, pinch hitting such a gift, such a skill. And when there’s when you have a good one, some of the great ones, Smoky Burgess, Manny Moda, there’s great pinch hitters, Danny Walling. It’s It’s so difficult to do as the two- two pitch is chased and missed. Down he goes. Good slider from Gins. So, he strikes out Lugo. And for Gin, that is strike out number six. So, one away. And here’s Moise Ranifo, the second baseman. A lot of times, Shudy, you’re facing when you’re a pinch hitter, you’re pinch hitting late. You’re facing one of the best relievers uh for that club. And with Lugo skill set, that’s the last thing you would think that he would be remembered for was two pitch bombs. Home. Here’s Manifo who singled in the second inning as he swings. Miss big cut on the slider. It’s nothing one. You know, there’s a lot of guys who are hitters that have to DH because they don’t really have a position, and that is a difficult task. A lot of these guys say you need to be in the game part of the game, go up in the tunnel and try to get ready prior to you at that, but it’s still not like being in the game. And so, just because guys get to hit and they think that’s an easy task, no, it isn’t. You have Yeah. You have to be special to do that as well. Yeah. coming off the bench cold 0 and one the couch has into the plate in the pit that’s chopped foul into the angel dugout. It’s nothing to do in the bullpen for the A’s right now. Left-hander Hogan Harris and the right-hander Mitch Spence a double barrel in the A’s bullpen right now as now at 76 pitches for the night in the fourth inning. 4-2 the Angels lead it. He is trying to snap a fivegame skid. Wind is picking up a little bit now as Ginso to pitch. Strike three call. Beautiful pitch. A sinker on the inside edge. Another strike out for struck out four in a row. He has seven strikeouts for the night. And here is Joe Adell to right fielder. Unfortunately, the balls that have been hit out of the ballpark for mistakes. This is great late movement on that. And that was the reason one time he got shot out because the ball did not run back over. Yeah. the inside of the plate. It ran over the middle of the plate. Here’s Adele as Joe swings and misses on the sinker. It’s nothing one. Adele round it into a inning ending 65 put out. Wilson the play to his right and speed at third base final out of that second inning. But again on a roll right now the 01 pitch in the dirt one and one. Four consecutive strikeouts, seven strikeouts overall. But again, the two-run shot from Ward made it 4-2 Los Angeles. 18 closing in on 80 pitches for the night as the right-hander plate the 1-1. That’s swung on. Fly ball to left field from Elport Soderstrom to make the catch and the inning is over. So a nice one, two, three, fourth inning for JT with three and a half. It’s the Angels four and the Athletics two. This is the story of the one. Your day in baseball starts with MLB Central. Let’s get it started. The fourth inning of tonight’s game is brought to you by Hyundai of Makavville, NorCal’s home run, Hyundai store close to everywhere at I80 and Leisure Town Road. That’s Hyundai of Vakavville as Luis Urias is the hitter. Luis hits a chopper off the glove of Sorrano. bounces though to Renifo who throws him out. It goes 143 on the put out as Dereas is out. I believe Soraniano made contact with that. We’ll see. One away. Here is JJ Blade, the center fielder. The day singled in the second inning on the first pitch he saw from Soraniano. JG now at 210, six homers and 18 driven in delivers on the pitch that’s taken for a strike on the outside edge on a sinker at 99 and it’s nothing and one he’s been a much better road pitcher than a home pitcher this year and the 01 pitch. That’s the chopper foul toward the Angel dugout and it’s nothing to do at home. 0 and2 high.95 RA on the road. 2 and2 1.95 RA walks 20 strikeouts on the road. 0 and2 the count day playing in his 46th game. Here’s the O2 pitch. That’s swung on hit on the ground left side. Backhanded by Netto. Off balance throw low but it’s dug out over there by the first baseman Shaell. And there are two away. So it goes 6-3 on the put out. Nice play by Neto to his right. And that will bring up the third baseman Gio. You know, Johnny Soraniano’s stuff is quite obvious as electric as it is. But it’s so hard to pick up the baseball. I mean, he’s got short arm, great angle, doesn’t show the ball very early, and before you know it, the ball is all over you. Oh yeah. sinker at 99 right one and0 toella struck out looking in the second inning 0 for one you’re right though the way he’s closed you know I can imagine he’d be hard to pick up sinker swung on missed it’s one and one on go what makes lefty so tough on lefties is that they hide the ball almost behind their head at angle that it come he creates the same thing for right-hand hit one pitch still dribbler foul up along third Eric Martins and it’s now one ball in two strike But again, he’s been hit a little bit at his home ballpark. Some of that just lack man, right? And and Mitch Spence still loosening up in the bullpen for the A’s. The one-two pitch. That’s a ground ball on the left side. Bhanded by Neto. Lance, throws, and gets him. And it’s a one, two, three, fourth inning for Jos Seran. He’s retired five straight. We’re through four complete. It’s still the Angels four and the A’s two. Progressive knows when you take a hack at guessing which baseball player or manager said the following. I really don’t know what to say. I’m just uh so happy I gave something. These people cheer. His 13th and it’s a one-run game. Expand your vocabulary by listening to every game on the MLB app and mlb.com. We go to the top half of the fifth inning. It is a 4-2 Angels lead and it’ll be top of the order for the Halo as Neto Showell and Monata the righter Mitch Spence in three innings or four innings, six hits and four runs all earn no walks and seven strikeouts. You said the break Judy just a couple of mistakes as Spence delivers to Neto in the first pitch is fouled back to the screen. It’s nothing one but his stuff looked good tonight. Yeah, absolutely great. Uh like you said, he was able to move the ball around the attack both sides, set up each pitch. The sequences in which he used his stuff tonight was excellent. It was just the product of two pitches that just got too much of a netto one for two on the night. The 01 pitch. Look out. Just got away from Spence and Neto went to his numbers. That was up and in. And Neto knows that was just accidental. It just just slipped out of Spence’s hand. It’s now one ball and one strike. still doesn’t make it any less scary for the hitter. You said that exactly right, Johnny. I mean, one of the most scariest things in baseball is to see a ball coming at your head, especially as hard as guys are throwing these days. So, and no one no one, I don’t care, they have any kind of malice in their heart, uh, would throw a ball at a guys. And Neto, you just kind of looked over like, really? I mean, he knew it wasn’t on purpose, but he’s still as a hitter as you’ve been through that. Oh my god. Another one to count on. Zack Neto Netto with 287 on the year. Kevin Homer’s driven in 15 runs. Pitch is swung on and missed. And the C want to do nothing like that. Next pitch after nothing like that whole slide on the black after getting dusted. One good count on Meadow as Mitch Spence to the plate. The one-two pitch. Right-hander delivers outside with the slider. That’s now two balls and two strikes. You know, Spence really helped out the bullpen. He worked three innings the other day in that blowout loss. You know, they were doing anything they can to keep Jason Alexander in there, but got to a point where you had to had to take him out. They used Spence for three that day. The two-2 pitch. This is outside and it’s now three and two. and the fact that Mitch was able to work three and that the problem with a blowout like that is you you couldn’t even use Spence, you know, until this day, right, Sunday or Monday. So, it was really it was tough sledding for the A’s in that situation. There’s the 3-2 pitch is swung on a fly ball to right field. Butler coming in, still coming in. He makes the catch and there is one away. So, Neto flies out to right, one down. Here’s going that was big for the bullpen to work three. No doubt, John. And I think it’s just sad that we’re in an era of relievers where they’re only counted on for the most part to come in and pitch one inning. You know, closers back in the day and I’m oldfashioned. So I’m going to speak back in the day there were some great relievers that come in and pitch two innings two days in a row and that’s just how they were made. But it’s the game has changed a lot and that’s one thing we’re going to have to expect. I mean accept indeed. Pitch misses one and know it look I mean Raleigh fingers so many three inning saves right. Absolutely man. Trevor Hoffman, Lee Smith. Yeah, it was really Tony Larusa that kind of changed it with Eersley. Remember the one pitch to Shaunell is taken first strike and it’s one and one. Absolutely. The two Angels were in the top half of the 15. Thanks for joining us. So wonderful to have Shy Babbot with us for today and tomorrow as a 1-1 pitch that’s taken inside two and one. have some games coming up as well on the road, right? Yeah, man. I’m headed to can’t tell you, but I’m going to be deep in the bushes somewhere in the booth to the bushes. That’s the way it goes, man. Love it. Love it. It never stops for Scott. Two and one the count on Shaunell as fence. Two-1 pitch. That’s swung on. Drive down the right field line. That’s a base hit. That ball is going to two off the wall playing the carum Butler. And Shaell into second with his second double of the game. He’s having quite a night. Two doubles and a homer for Shawwell. One man wrecking crew. This dude can hit. They always talk about this dude has some good bats to ball. He’s lucky to keep him in the park right there. Well, he just had a handful of minor league games. He came up the same year he was drafted. So that’s the seventh hit for the Angels. Here is Monata who is 0 for one. He hit with a pitch in the first bounced out the second baseman in the third as Spence delivers and the pitch that’s swung on miss slider and the count is nothing and one Taylor Ward the on deck hitter this a 4-2 game in the bottom of the fifth it’ll be Butler Wilson and Soderstrom to the plate. the 01 pitch that’s taken low. One and one for Spence. He’s making appearance number 17 on the year. 1 and0 4.88 RA 11 walks, 27 strikeouts in 27 in two third innings. Big part of this bullpen. One of those uh guys that call it Swiss Army knife, right? He can do just about everything. There’s a 1-1 pitch that’s taken for a good pitch on the inside edge. And he’ll throw that cutter five, six times in a row at times. He’s very effective with it. Yeah. And the bullpin needs a guy like this. Everyone, you can bring him in at different parts of the game, early, late, uh in the middle, give you multiple innings, and he protects everybody down. There’s a one-two pitch to Mona. Waved at him, missed. Down he goes. Langers will look runner back and throw to first for the strikeout. So, Mitch Spence picks up the strike on Monata. And that got the left fielder, Taylor Ward. Yeah, I mean, we’ve seen him do just about everything. seen him pick up the save. We’ve seen him u be the long man. We’ve seen him s be a situational guy. We’ve seen him start coming to I mean look Kate trusts him for high levered situations and he should been really really good as Taylor Ward who has bounced out and homered steps up to the plate and the pitch that misses now one ball and no strike. Well, if you look at this staff, you know who was going to be closing coming out of spring training, but there are a lot of guys that had not defined their roles. And the way that Stern bust on the scene, I mean, it kind of made it easy for other guys in the bullpin to find the place. One pitch that’s taken outside two and0 exactly like I mean the plan, it’s funny how the plan started. Um, it was going to be Ferguson seventh, L Clerk eighth, and Miller closing ninth. Right. Sterner had such a great spring and he’s had an outstanding uh regular season as well. He’s had one game where he gave up runs. The 200 pitch is in there for his strike. It’s now two and one. So, as you said, you told me that a long time ago. Look, the shape of the bullpen, what it is in the middle of March or what it is at the start of April is not what it’s going to be throughout the season. No question about it. Two and one the count on Ward is a two-1 pitch. badness misses high now three and one on Ward. And you know the way that it started out I mean Clerk was identified and acquired as a guy that could pitch late in the game. This is a dude that closed in the World Series for the Texas Rangers when they won everything and he just never showed the velocity or ability to get hitters out like he had in the past. 3-1 pitch is in their first strike. It’s now three and two. Now he’s on the IIL. Yo comes back and and be the dominating pitcher of the A’s signed. 3-2 pitch coming up from Spence with a runner on second and two outs. A trailing four to2 is Spence to the plate. The 3-2 pitch swung on and miss. He got him on the slider. So Spence with backto-back strikeouts on Moana and Ward. The numbers three and four hitters. No runs. One hit him in Leoo. Four and a half. It’s the Angels four and the A’s too. As a ride share driver, I love take a hack at guessing which baseball player or manager said the following. I really don’t know what to say. I’m just uh so happy I gave something. These people cheer. We all did. I mean, it was a great game. Both teams played incredible. It was a great game. Butler Wilson Soderstrm. Butler a hard hit ball on one. Short hop scooped up by Monata onto first and there is one away. Another good at bat for Butler though hitting it the other way and hitting it hard and it ends up being a 5-3 put out. But you could see the signs of him coming out of it. No question. Watch your lips down there. Mata, that was an absolute seed. And most of the time you just go to the dugout and said, “Mhm, another good at bat. Can’t wait to get back up there again.” Here’s Jacob Wilson as the pits to Jacob is taken for a strike to the knees nothing and one make a nice man the short hop but again that’s two times ball going the other way and 0 and one the count on Wilson’s the 01 pitch that’s a ground ball on the left side backhanded by Nettle long off balance throw gone and what a play he is so smooth over there making that play to his right so 6-3 on the middle that’s five consecutive ground ball outs induced by Soraniano. That’s his game, man. That young man sweet as a honey bun over there. Short stop on the move. Non-stop. Great touch, angle throw. I mean, wow. And he got a lot on that throw. He’s brilliant over there. Yeah, he’s sweet. Oh, another ground ball out. That’s nine ground ball outs overall induced by the sinker baller. And he throws another sink for this one at 99. And that’s swung on a miss. Nothing. And one on Soderstrom. Tyler has struck out. He’s also been hit with a pitch. 0 for one. He’s hitting 271 on the year as Sorino delivers. That one swung on. Drive to left center it pretty well. That ball’s going to fall in for a base hit and one off the wall. Sodestrom into second base with a double. So two out double for Soderstrom. His 10th double of the year. That’ll give Rooker a chance here in this fifth inning. First hit since the Wilson single in the third. Yeah, it had a little anger in that swing. He’d like Popeye to save there. That’s all I can stand. I can’t stand no more. You know that gap is calling his name and he answered the call. I mean, this is when Solder is going well. Shorten the swing up a little bit. Prior at bats, he’s kind of overswinging like he was trying to hit a three-run homer with nobody on base. Yeah, stay within yourself, young man. Here’s Rooker as the pitch from Sorano misses low one. It’s 10,519. 10519. Good attendance on this this Monday night. Good crowd. Good looking. Yeah, the BM is packed. Finally, some interdivision baseball. Righthander check second. It was a 10 pitch. That swung on a miss. And the count is one and one. do have more Inner League coming up um with the Phillies in town next weekend, but this is game one of 13 these two teams will play. Angels and A’s check second. Now the 1-1 pitch is on chop foul. What about you? Did you like it more when they played uh 19 games against their division foes or 13? I think it’s important to play more in your division because you want to be able to at least dictate what’s going to happen to you. I mean, if you play National League teams down the down the stretch, I mean, a lot of times you can’t gain any grain any ground. Much more difficult. So, handle it within your division and then you’ll have anything to complain about. Yes, things are important. Two and two, the count on Rooker. Rooker has bounced into a double play and walk for 113 for his last 66. as Soraniano checks second. The two- two pitch is swung on and fouled just to get a piece of it and it remains a two and two. You know, a lot of times they say you got to get some pitches early on. I think Soriano was one of those guys. We had him on the ropes a couple of times when he didn’t have complete command. It’s been a lot sharp over the past couple of innings limiting the damage. Rightanders check second. Now the two pitch Swan hit into the left center for a base hit. Solders from around third. They’ll score and the A’s now trail four to three. See the importance of talking up the opponent to jinx him. Well, the reverse jinx as Rooker picks up his 23rd RBI of the year and it’s now a 43 ball game. One thing that’s very difficult to do, Johnny, when you’ve got a hitter with short arms, it’s so hard to jam them. Brooker can pull him in as well as Arubio Dazzo who had arms as short as alligator. Here is Langaliers who has singled and struck out as Soraniano to the plate and the pitch to Shay is fouled back the screen. It’s nothing. Well, Grifter’s always hit Seriano well. He’s seen the ball very well on Soraniano’s hands consistently. So one the count on Langalers. A 43 ball game here in the fifth. home the right side for Langaliers as Soraniano’s 01 pitch is swung on a fly ball to right field it pretty well going back Adele near the track on the track makes the catch and the inning is over but the A’s do get a run on two hits a man left we’re through five complete it’s the Angels four and the A’s three take a hack at guessing which baseball player or manager said the following I really don’t know what to say I’m just uh so happy I gave something these People cheer. It is a 43 Angels lead as Mitch Spence facing Jorge Soler and he delivers a strike and first pitch slider and it’s nothing and one. Four runs, seven hits for the Angels, two or three runs, six hits for the A’s. here ballpark in West Sacramento. Here’s the 01 pitch wave that miss on a slider and it’s nothing in two. Watching the A’s offense last inning, Johnny. Nothing like seeing a team battle with two outs and manufacture a run in a situation like that. Indeed. Big two out double by Soders. An RBI single from Rooker. The 02 pitch misses outside. through the sixth inning of tonight brought to you by American Furniture Galleries, your family-owned furniture store since 1991. One and two on Solair. We’re in the sixth inning as Spence wind up in a one-two balls and two sprites out twice. Swinging the second swing in third again. Four innings, six hits and four runs. Did not walk a batter. He struck out seven. He hit a batter. Four consecutive batters at one point was the two- two pitch. That’s fouled back the screen. Curve ball. Eric curve ball from Mitch Spence. Now two and two the count. There a few Angel fans here at the ballpark. trip California 22 pitch that’s swung on muscled to right field moving to his right butler he reaches up and makes the catch there is one away one down in the six and that will bring up the catcher Logan oh there’s oh came over from the Phillies Brandon Mars a great story here though Sherry this is a 23rd Pick from Philly over the clear off pretty nicely. The fast ball in there for a strike. The outside edges locked him up. 0 and one the count. Logan Ohappy second baseman readed up the middle. The 01 pitch that’s bounced up the middle and two for a base hit. So Wilson was playing in the pole, a single for a hobby. He’s now two for three. And that’ll bring up the center fielder Matthew Lugo. Remember a couple of years back our good friend Jamie McCauley who works with Associated Press. She introduced me to Logan O’Hy. I mean the family, there are some ties there. And what a great family and nice kid. Not that I’m pulling for the opponent tonight, but um she just spoke volumes of the type of person that this young man was. And it’s not a surprise seeing his success like he’s having. Here’s Lugo. Lugo 0 for two has struck out twice. Right-handed hitter as Spence delivers and the pitch is swung on and missed and the count’s nothing. As far as Gins’s concerned, look, no walks, seven strikeouts for again, he made the two mistakes, but kind of builds off this start coming off the IIL. And I think great things to come for John Thomas Gin. Spence at the belt and the 01 pitch. That’s little dribbler foul behind play. It’s only two. What I was impressed about mostly in his start today is that the command was pretty good. I mean, he wasn’t running from anybody. He didn’t have a whole bunch of high pitch counts um in those at bats. I mean, he had a plan uh pitch him in and slide them away and he was very successful. Like I said, just with the exception of a couple of pitches, it was an outstanding out. Yeah. 0 and the count as rightander looks in. Go to pit. That’s waved at a miss. Down he goes on the slider. Spence with his third strike out and the third time that Lubu has struck out and these pitchers now have 10 strikeouts on the night. And here is Luis Renifo, the second baseman. Well, it doesn’t take long for pitchers to get the book on you. One thing that you see and probably why Lugo had a couple of pitches, homers because he has an ambush swing. Uh he didn’t shorten up with two strikes. Um the A’s expanded his own and he just expanded his swing and he wasn’t much of a threat in that at bat. Here is Renifo a switch hitter batting from the left side. He is singled and struck out 222 on the year. Spence the plate could take inside of the cutter strike count. Matt Crook leftander up for the athletics up middle about 40t off line bag. Spence to the plate and the one pitch that’s swung on hit up the middle. It’s fielded by Wilson on the second off. Slings it to first and the inning is over. That might have hit Spence, but for now it’s a 6-3 put out. No runs, one hit a man left. Great job by Spence. Two shutout innings with their Introducing baseball’s all new national pregame show. MLB tonight live at 5. Expand your vocabulary by listening to every game on the MLB app and MLB.com. Hi, Oper. We go to the bottom of the sixth inning in a good ball game. The Angels lead it four to three. And in the bottom of the sixth, Nick Curts will lead things off, but it’ll be Curts, Duras, and Bed. The sixth inning is brought to you by American Furniture Galleries, your family-owned furniture store since 1991. There’s Curts. Curts has bounced out and struck out. He’s 0 for two. And he is two for his last 28. 10 hitter is the pitch. So delivers a strike and it’s nothing on first pitch sinker. Hurts at 213 on the year. That’s not shaded up the middle. There’s pitch from Soraniano. That’s foul back screen. Another sinker and it’s nothing and two on Curts of Curt 67 and eight. So Zaniano he’s had 83 pitches as he’s at the belt and the O2 pitch delivers that one rolled on the right side. to his left scooping it up is the second baseman Reo on to first and there is one away. Look like the pitch timer actually expired. I think Soraniano got away with one there. So, one out in the sixth bring up Luis Guras the second base who’s 0 for two has bounced out twice. You know something I’ve noticed with a couple of umpires, John, they can be a little fertuitous with that clock. Um the guy is just about to deliver the ball and the clock stops it. You know, they they show a little lingering there, which I I like. Yeah, they do. I I get it. You’re going to stop the game and slow it up even more. Das right-handed hitter in the pitch. That’s taken for a strike. Hold on. So funny. Pitch timer. And back in the day, I’m talking about like 70s, 80s, even 90s, uh where the game started slowing down. You didn’t pitch time. You still have games at 215, 220 pitches, pitch foul. And Das is pointing. I don’t know if Das thought maybe was a catch interference call or what. Kind of pointing at they might take a look at something here. Maybe maybe it hit him. Oh yeah. Oh yeah. He hit the glove. Got to challenge something here. Y it was catcher’s interference. Was it? Yeah, I can kind of see how Oh, hoppy couldn’t catch the ball because the bat hit his glove and it turned the glove around a little bit. Oh, it was a foul ball. It wasn’t a foul ball or was it angle? It looks different from this. See here? It’s just I don’t know if you can overturn it. It’s very hard to tell from that angle there. Cost him a challenge. Yeah. At first I thought Yeah, he was pointing at the catch like he was catching interference, right? Yeah. Maybe they said you can’t tell. Here we go. Taking some hold up crosses here. We may have a chance if they don’t have that front view. Why is this taking so long? We’ll see. They haven’t seen the front view. because I was just sure that it was after review fields overturned. It is catcher interference. There we go. There we go. Interference challenge. Yeah, you saw uh Dereas uh look just pointed Oh. So catcher’s interference. They weren’t challenging. Yeah, they were challenging. It was called a foul ball and it was catchers interference. So that’s be an error charge to a hoppy and el the hitter with two one on one out 4-3 Angels bottom of the six Oriano with the belt and a bit that’s taken outside wondering why did we doubt ourselves we call catch interference man just saying but from that different angle yeah one count on JJ the third baseman 18 ft off the line Look behind the grass. Here’s the one pitch that’s taken inside now. Two and0 on the day. A sinker from the right-hander. 87 pitches. Grant Coleman, the right-hander, beginning to loosen up in the bullpen for the Athletics. Reus from first. Here’s the 200 pitch that misses low. Now three and0 on Ved. I think it’s such an advantage right now for JJ that has been struggling a little bit getting in some counts now he’s seeing some pitches having count leverage now he can look for something be a little more selective with the bell now the three 0 pitch that’s taken outside ball force so a four pitch walk to Beday and the A’s now have first and second with one out let’s pause while we have a moment for station identification on A’s cast 650 KST in the AIDS radio network with Shy Babbot, Chris Carrey, Chris Townsen, Jess Punchmet, and Cody Elias. And of course, Steve Saxs. Saxi does uh Saxi doing a great job with with uh with Ace Cast who’s been joining us on the broadcast as well. And Johnny Gossco, great to have you with us as the home played umpire Malachi Moore going out there to check kind of to break things up at the mound. Tell you about Steve Saxs, you know, being a Dodger, being the enemy all these years, playing on the other side, finally getting a chance to meet him if you’re around. What an outstanding human being. Yeah, a gentleman, man. Yes, he is. It’s been a pleasure. No doubt indeed. The day at first, Gus at second with one out. Dior Shell is the batter. The tying run at second base as the right-hander Soriano delivers on the pitch that’s swung on and missed on a sinker and it’s nothing and one. 43 the score. Struck out and bounced out. He’s hitting 221 on the year. First baseman Johnell well off the line. Back to second base from Sorana. Back in safely is Yuras. Tra nothing. Led 2-1. Trail 4-2. They now trail four to three. There’s the 01 pitch to Gorella. That’s swung on and missed on the sinker at 97 and it’s nothing to two. So on two the [Music] countd man you that’s just nasty over 90 pitches now throwing in that Angel bullpen yet or they they did get somebody up. They finally got somebody up. They’re right-handed into the throw on to the count for the 02 pitch. That’s foul play. Nothing two to the count on her. show up the day at first and Gas at second. Here’s the O2 pitch is swung on. Little popup foul territory. Shaw giving chase in foul territory. Makes the catch. He throws to second but back in safely is so two away. Threef on your scorecard. Here’s Butler. Butler is one for two. He doubled and scored in the first. walked in the third. Then he had a hard shot on one hop. A short hop for Monata who made the play and threw to first for the out. Here’s Butler. Big spot here with two on and two out. 43. Angels lead it in the bottom of the six. Take their lead. Soraniano with the plate and then the pitch. That’s taken low with the curve. It’s one and0. 94 pitches for Sorano. Butler 230 from the left side. Right hand comes set second and the one pitch. Little dribbler up the third base line and foul out on Lawrence. One ball and one strike. The day and take their lead. as big right-hander Soraniano looks into the glove of O’Happy and the pitch that’s taken low now two and one close pitch just missed a little bit low it’s two and one on butler Wilson the on deck hitter first and second here with two outs right-hander at the belt and the 2-1 pitch to Butler. That’s taken outside. It’s three and one. And Lawrence quality of the bats are just very impressive. I mean, those are borderline pitches that he’s spitting on. You can just tell he’s seeing it now. Three and one the count on Lawrence Butler. First and second here with two outs. Srano steps off. Now he’s back on the rubber. He’s going to snap a fiveame skid. There’s a 3-1 pitch from the right-hander that’s taken for a strike on the inside edge and it’s three and two. Lawrence didn’t like it. So, the runners will be off on this pitch. Two strikes and two outs. Tough pitch right there. Close pitch right on the edge at the ball. So, the runners take their leads and now Soraniano steps off on the rightander. Back on the rubber. He’s on the first base side of the rubber. Runners would take off here and the 3-2 pitch. Runners go. It’s lifted foul. Left side out of play. We’ll try it again. Remains at three and two. This is what baseball is all about right here. Indeed. Three and two. The count with two outs. Runners will take off. But they will take off from first. Riaz from second is Soraniano with the belt. The runners go with the 3-2 pitch is swung a little dribbler in front of home plate bareanded by a hobby. Throws to first and the inning is over. So two three on the put out. No runs, a walk and eron to left. We’re through six. It’s the Angels four and the A’s three. Las. Let’s see if you can figure out the following baseball slang term. Big phrase is oppo. You know, he has somewhat of a one-way swing and not a lot of man manipulation here, if you will. So, lot of holes to attack the pitch to the bell. It swung on and popped up. The second baseman is drifting over to his left. He’s under. He makes the catch and there is one away. But man, oh man, you make a mistake and he can hit the ball a long way. Indeed. I mean, I saw him saw him several years in Salt Lake. He was up and down between the edges of Salt Lake. And remember, he was struggling so mightily defensively when he first got called up to the big leagues. But you’re right, when he got a hold of it, it was, oh man, he would terrorize AAA pitching. But again, that’s Triple A. Go to the big leagues. They find your weaknesses very quickly. There’s Zach Neto who’s one for three as Spence delivers. And the pitch to Zack is taken for strike. It’s going one. right-handed hitter. Here’s the 01 pitch. Delivers now swing on a fly ball to right field in the back for it is Butler near the track. We go to the bottom of the eighth inning. Hector Nerys, the new pitcher on for the Angels. Nerys gets the call and it will be Nick Kurt to lead things off for the Athletics. Hector has made nine appearances. RA is over 19 and a half. He’s allowed eight earned runs in three and two/3 innings. Walk seven strikeouts and hurts foul up the first base line. The counts feel like Strickland now Sean Anderson pretty good bullpen has struggled as Cody mentioned about this year as the 01 pick. That’s swung on. Fly ball to center field. Going back for it as Luko near the track, on the track, near the wall and makes the catch near the wall. And there is one away. Nick Burns just missed it. And there’s one away here in the eighth. Johnny, you look at this Angel Bullpin. It’s almost like a reclamation project down there. You look like Tyler Anderson, Hector, Hunter Strickland. All of these guys have had success somewhere in the past. And it goes to show you what a change of scenery can do for somebody. No question. Here’s Aras with Curts. Just missed that. Here’s Guras, right-handed hitter. It’s a 43 Angels lead here in the bottom of the eighth. Guarding the line at third is Monata as Nerz delivers. The former Philly delivers a strike and it’s nothing and one. I mean, bullpens as you know, they’re so volatile each year. You know, a guy could have a great year and then the next year struggle. 0 and one the count hits the fly ball to left field going backboard is Ward. He’s under it. He’s going to make the catchy from the track and they’re two away here in the A. Very typical for a bull pin or for a reliever if you will to have a short lifespan if you will. I mean these guys are pretty dominant for two or three years. I mean it’s a lot of huffing and puffing and throwing. Typically the guys that last are the guys with that go-to out pitch that’s not high leverage. you know the change up the cutter something that you know that’s coming and you still can do anything with it. Here’s Bedet as JJ takes high one and0. Bed is one for two. Has singled, bounced out and walked. But JJ 209 on the year as Nerys delivers in the 10 pitch. That’s first right. It’s now one. All that time with the Phillies. The Phillies 2014 to 2021 with the Astros 2022 and 2023 and part of 2024 with the Cubs. last year as well. This is inside. It’s now two and one of the Braves, the Angels. They designated them on the 31st of March 3 Angel that’s in there for a strike. That’s now two and two on Blade. Roello would be next. Nerys had 617 appearances in his career. Pitch is swung on and miss down on the fast ball at 92. So a one two three eighth inning for Hector with eight complete. It’s the Angels four and the A’s three. He thinks he tagged the runner going by Oh, Hoppy. Good effort by Wilson. It’s going to be a base hit for Oh. An offbalance throw. And we’ll see if they take They’re going to take a look at it. They’re going to take a look at it. They think that Curts applied that tag on O’H. And that offbalance throw was offline. And I don’t know. Did he get some sleeve over there? Did he get a little shoulder? Maybe. See if a little found a way to Did he raise the uniform top? I don’t know if it’s not enough. I don’t know if it’s going to be overwhelmingly obvious the other way. Right. Did he get him is the question? Did he He thinks he grazed. We need to see that daylight on another angle. Yeah, but Curts was convinced he pointed it right there. Maybe it just it’s just not overwhelming the other way. It’s really hard to be here, Johnny. See, get him here. Let’s see. Let’s see if we got the top get the shoulder. Maybe, maybe he did. But can you No, it’s so close. Did he graze it? He thinks he grazed it. What do you What do you got shooting? Well, that’s why they have the camp. That’s right, man. At first I thought he grazed his shoulder a little bit. That angle looks like he may have raised it, but the problem is you say may have raised it, right? It’s not obvious that he did. So not clear enough. Yeah, this a big decision here. Big call here. It’ll be happy at first with nobody out or one out, nobody on for Matthew Lugo. And you know, at this point of the game, you have nothing to lose. I mean, you don’t want to go home with that in your pocket still. Ah, that angle right there doesn’t look like it. I know that’s that that angle right there does not look like he did. Yeah, that don’t help him. The other angle where they kind of closed it looked like he may have grazed it, but again, it’s just a But again, it’s like you said, nothing loose by trying to challenge. I don’t think he got the foot was the last thing. Oh. Oh, maybe that. I mean, the Kurts felt something is why he told him to look at it. Yeah, for sure. I’d say looking on. So, I know one thing. It was a gallery on that field is overturned. The runner’s sleeve was tied barely down. So, the sleeve was tied. Wow. I need to trust these new glasses I got. Hey, look. Same here. Gee, my knees. Wow. So, 63 on the put out. That was a great effort by Nick. It was on the back shoulder. And the key to the play is he stayed with it. So much to be learned from that. Here is Matthew Lugo as the pitch taken for a strike at the knees. Nothing and one. Johnny, we talked about Soraniano, how nasty he was. I mean, Otanas is not a comfortable at bat either with that crossfire. He hides the ball very well. No question. 01 pitch misses one and one. 43. The Angels lead in the top of the ninth inning. looks in another one-1 pitch that’s swung on and missed on the Synra 97 and it’s one and two. How huge was that play? That was huge. A done well on the replay review today. The one-two pitch, little chopper foul. Got to give love to Adam Rhoden who does such a great job has done a nice job through the years with the the best in the business for the athletics coordinator one and two count the right comes set the one-two pitch is taken inside and high it’s now two and two and two on Lugo on deck hitter is Renifo out of a Derek Jeter jump throw from Jacob Wilson that play two and two the count to the plate. The two- two pitch swung on a miss. Down he goes. High heat at 96. Elevated again. It’s the fourth time that Lugo has struck out. Two down. That’s five in a row. Retired by Otanz 96 elevated. And here is Renifo. Both of those strikeouts at the top of the zone. Johnny, you have to be special. Your ball has to have late life with some jump to get away at that part of the strike zone. He does have some late life. No question. Here’s the pitch. That’s taken low with a slider. And it’s one throw in that slider. Keep him honest there. The on deck hitter is Joe Adell. In the bottom of the ninth, it’ll be Ursella, but probably have Brown come off the bench and hit forella in the ninth inning. One and0 the count. Right hand the plate. 10 pitch is hit foul left side out of the play. You also have Schuman on your bench as well. You need a pinch run. You know, we talk about late life. For the fans that don’t understand that, it appears that if that ball is jumping at the zone, John Doolittle used to be the best at that. At 94 it was regular. At 96 it had light. One pitch foul back and it’s one of you just can’t catch up with it, right? And that was the difference of his success. I mean 94 was straight and it was just a average fast ball, but 96 it just seemed like when it got there it had that extra hop and it’s something that hitters they know it’s coming but they just can’t see it and they can’t pick it up. One to the count on Luis Reno switch hitter batting from the left side. The one-two pitch is balanced foul outside first and down the line and we’ll try it again. It remains at one and two. Admired a bad boy down there. He put his body in front of it. It was just a bad ricochet. EA. I love the F. No doubt. And EA one for three on the night as Otanz comes set the one-two pitch. That’s one hit down the right field line hooking in the corner and it is a foul ball. That was close. I almost hit the like he might hit the foul pole. I thought I thought too, Johnny. And and Hippo’s confused. They may take a look at this. I mean, the umpire called it foul. I thought it hit the pole. I thought it hit the pole as well. Yeah. Let’s see. See here. And Nope. Hit the fence down there. Yeah. Too wrong. Yeah, we were wrong. Thank goodness. Yeah, it’s the one angle where we just kind of rely on the TV. We But the way it ricocheted so hard. I know. I thought so, too. One to two the count. And he both thought so, too. Absolutely. One and two the count on the Wish Reno. Four three ball game. The Aer trailing with some heroics in the bottom of the ninth as Otanzas delivers the one-two pitch. That’s strike three called on the inside hot. He didn’t like it. He said, “You got to be kidding me.” 100o. Wow. So that’s the third strike out for Otana. Another one, two, three inning on the inside edge at the knees. What a pitch. And six up and six down against Otana who threw eight and a half. Last chance for the A’s. It’s the Angels four. And let’s see if we can figure out the following baseball slang term. Today’s phrase is oppo taco. Do you know what it means? Oppo taco. A home run hit to the opposite field. with an oppo taco. His 13th and it’s a one-run game. Ninth inning is brought to you by American Family American Furniture Galleries, your family-owned furniture store since 1991. So, Kenley Jansen will take over here for the Angels and he will face the pinch hitter, Seth Brown. Brown’s going to hit for Oella Respected. So, Brown the hitter. Bottom of the ninth, 4-3 Angels. Kenley Jansen 0 and2 5.4 40 RA veteran right-hander delivers and the pitch that’s taken inside with a cutter. We know I mean he’s going to throw pretty much nothing but cutters. One and0 and0 on Brown 96 on the year. One homer and a couple driven in left-handed hitter Emily Jansen. Clayton the one pit that’s taken for a strike on the outside edge and it’s one and one. Jansen the veteran right-hander 65 270. He’s 37 years old. He has a total of 455 saves in his career. It’s been a brilliant career. One-1 pitch that swung on a fly ball to right field. Adele going back near the track and at the wall makes the catch for the out and there is one away. Brown just missed it. My god, just the sound of it alone. I mean, we’ve saw a couple that have been hit to the warning track and we knew it was short, but Brownley got every bit of this one. He just got that ball just a little too on the lower part of the barrel here, man. Oh, man. When’s the Where’s the win when you need it? Right. Exactly. Rodell making that catch just at the wall. And here is Lawrence Butler with one out and nobody on as the pitch to Lawrence is taken outside. First pitch cut fast ball. It’s one and0. So Butler is one for three. Doubled and scored. Walk bounced out twice. Henley Jansen to the plate and the pitch that’s taken inside. Now 2 and 0 on Butler going to 5.40. His 16th appearance. Three walks, 12 strikeouts in 13 and 1/3 innings. In his 16th year in the big leagues as Pinley Jansen delivers the two pitch, the hesitation, the pitch misses low with a cutter. It’s now three and0. The on deck hitter is Jacob Wilson. One thing that’s obvious to me, Johnny, is that he doesn’t have that bo that he used to. And like you said, you’re going to get a bunch of cutters. Be ready for it. Three and0 on Butler as Jansen to the plate. And the three 0 pitch is taken for a strike. It’s now three and one. Four runs, eight hits, one error for the Angels. Three runs, six hits, and no errors for the A’s. Where we are in the bottom of the ninth with one out and nobody on. Emily Jansen, a high set, the 3-1 pitch from the right-hander. That’s a busted bat bouncer on the right side. Field on second off by Heo throws to first in time and there are two away. Now the Angels are one out away from the win. That’s how he’s made a living right there. Cutter, cutter, cutter, cutter trying to get in on left-handers. Ronnie got a ball up. He was able to twist on him a little bit. Hopefully makes a mistake here with Jay Willie. and get Bill Sagan. Give Brooker give us Soders a chance here. So catcher Ohapy out there to chat with Kenley Jansen. Also in there is Zach Neto the shortstop. The 4-3 Angels lead. The A’s in danger losing their six straight and the age pitchers. They’ve done a number on these the Angel hitters really just one base runner from after that double to Shaunell but Angels pitchers and a job of getting out of tough situation. Here’s Wilson. Two outs, nobody on ninth inning. 43 Halos as Kimley Jansen the high set and in the plate. The pitch to Jacob that’s taken low with a cutter. One ball and no stride. Wilson. He has one for two. He has walked and he’s also been hit with a pitch. Starting the line at third, Monata as Jansen delivers in the 10 pitch that misses low. Now two and 0. Two balls and no strikes on Wilson. Henley. all those years with the Dodgers. The 200 pitch that’s fouled away. First base side out of play. It’s now two- one for the Red Sox in 2023 and last year. He had a total of 56 saves in the two years. He has eight saves and eight opportunities this year. Two and one the count. The two-1 pit that swung online drive base hit center field for Wilson. His second hit of the night. Big two out single for Jacob and he represents the tying run. Schuman’s going to run for Wilson. So Max will run for Jacob here. That gives Soderstrom and the A’s a chance here in the ninth. I’ve been looking for a nickname for Jay Willie. I think I’m just going to call him the hitman. I love it. That’s all he does is get hits, bro. You serve it, I hit it. Another multi-hit game for the hitman. And here is Soderstrom. Soderstrom with 10 home runs on the year. And Tyler is one for three on the night. And with a pitch in the first, left-handed hitter as Jansen to the plate. The runner goes. The pitch is inside. The throw from his knees to second base. Not in time. He’s stolen it. So Schuman a big stolen base. And now a base hit to tie it up. One and0 the count on Soders. Good jump for Schuman. Jansen doesn’t hold on runners very well and the A took advantage of that and Schuman at second base now. One and0 the count on Sodstrom as the right-hander comes set and the 10 pitch that’s taken for a strike on the inside edge of cutter. It’s one and one. You know, Johnny, I think he kind of caught him from surprise for surprise because Oh, hop threw from his knees there. You know, it was a little late getting rid of that ball. If you look at Schuman, he turned on a second gear right about 3/4 mark. One and one the count as Jansen to the plate in the 1-1 pitch. Solders swings and misses at a high cutter and it’s one and two. One and two to count with two outs. Brent Rooker would be next. A trailing by a run. Schuman represents the tying runnies at second base as the one-two pitch to Soderstrom is swung on and missed and the ball game is over. The Kinley Jansen strikes out Sodrom and the A’s have lost their six straight. It’s a 43 win for the Angels. 2 hours and 48 minutes. It’s a 43 final. Four runs, eight hits, one error for the Angels. three-run, seven hits, no errors for the A’s. The winning pitcher is Jose Soraniano and the losing pitcher is JT Gin for our on-site engineer Andrew Dickerson and Michael helping us out here and Shooty Babbot and of course Nate Littlefield to Johnny Dasco for Ken Corak, Chris Kerry, Chris Townsen, Chris Punchman, Cody Elias, what’s going to final score? The Angels four, the A’s three. Don’t forget tomorrow be the second game of this four game set.
