George Pickens: I’m a Chill Guy That Likes to Work | Dallas Cowboys 2025

How does it feel to be here and and be with CD and be on the field with Dak for the first time? It feel good. Uh, you know, fresh start is always, you know, growing growing point. So, it feels good right now just getting around the guys. CD mentioned that you guys have trained in the past together. Now that your teammates and have gotten to practice together, I know it’s only been a couple times, but what’s that dynamic been like? It’s been great, honestly. Like you said, we trained before. Uh, and then just being here, learning to play is just a good vibe. What did you know of Dak before and and how do you kind of uh what are your early impressions of him working with him? Uh very smart, you know, at a quarterback. That’s kind of one of the biggest things you need and he’s very smart. When you found out about the trade, was CD one of the first people you reached out to? Uh he was actually one of the first people to reach out to me besides Jerry and you know, the actual people, but like yeah, as far as players, he’s one of the first players. What was that conversation like with you two? Just like I told him, just good vibes. He was super happy. Uh some of the guys on defense as well, you know, whole whole team super happy. What surprised were you about the the trade and those kinds of things? I know you Yeah, I wasn’t, you know, everything’s kind of a business. Even kind of like what you guys do is business. So, uh I wasn’t really like too shocked or too excited. I was just ready to work. Yeah. What was that first interaction with with Jerry Jones like? Uh like I said, super excited. It’s like it’s like when you get a present on Christmas, you just he just, you know, super happy. Did they talk to you at all about roles and how you would fit in offense? Uh no, not yet. Just working with the guys, you know, we got rookies here, too. So everybody’s just been kind of grinding. People have so much to say about you and the type of person you are. Come back to Pittsburgh. What is something that people don’t know about you? What do you want people to know about you or something that you don’t they don’t know about you? Uh that I’m actually like a chill guy. It’s like a all it’s like a big phase of a tornado. That’s not even true. I’m not a chill guy and I just love to work. Are you a tornado on the field more so than I wouldn’t say that. Uh you know kind of more disciplined. Yeah. Yeah. How does it feel to know that about yourself and come to a place that seems to be embracing that fans and the building that’s allowing you this second act? Yeah. Yeah. Uh I probably say just staying humble. That’s kind of what I always did. So like even when the story was what the story was, I always just kept working, staying humble. Does it feel rejuvenating to you though to have like a clean slate, step into a new environment, you have a new first year head coach? Yeah. Yeah. Literally literally exactly what you said. Super rejuvenating. New city, new state, you know what I mean? So it’s super refreshing. How about Dallas compared to Pittsburgh? Just living in the city. Uh uh I mean both cities are great. I’ll probably say uh but Dallas is surely bigger. So he says he’s learned a lot from watching you on tape. What do you learn from watching CD? Uh just intermediate stuff. He’s a great uh you know he got great feet. So stepping in certain places. He steps in place a lot which means like he can get to where he’s going fast in a short space and he’s tall. You know a lot of people don’t know he’s kind of tall. How long do you think it’ll take you to get kind of caught up with being in a new offense, you know, with a new team? How long do you think it’ll take you? I’m kind of learning plays right now, you know, uh, every offensively kind of plays are universal all across the league. So, uh, just keep just keep working. And then, like I said, we got a lot of rookie guys here, too. So, everybody’s trying to, you know what I mean? It’s a collective thing. Stand out about coach right now. Uh, energy, you know what I mean? Uh, like I said, this is a business, but with a guy like Coach Shotti, he’s going to bring the energy every day. No matter, you see what I mean? Like, no matter what the energy is, he’s going to bring it. Shotti had mentioned that, you know, you’re you stood out to him in terms of the in in the wide receiver room and getting ready. What’s your process in terms of trying to get up to speed as you try to navigate this process? Uh, I want to do it fast, but, you know, I only learn as as far as I go. But, uh, like I said, Shotti’s been bringing the energy. He comes in the receiver room, boostes all the receivers up. Uh, like I said, for me it’s just super refreshing. Yeah. What is something that you learned with your time at Pittsburgh that you’re going to bring here to Dallas? Uh, kind of like hard work, you know what I mean? Just uh just a way of just keep going, keep going, keep going, you know what I mean? Uh, that’s kind of what I feel like I bring from Pittsburgh to the Cowboys, you know what I mean? Just hard work. Super hard work. Never get too high, never get too low. Number 13 story behind it. Uh, no, nothing’s like really finalized right now. It’s just everybody’s it’s all it’s whole bunch of number. My guy Tan, he got number seven. Then you know Trey N. You see what I mean? So like everybody’s working right now. Shotty said he beat you in a free throw contest. You beat him a couple times. This contest take place. Uh I beat I mean the first day I came up here we did a little shooting. I beat him. Then the next day he literally brought me up here only to shoot basketball and then he beat me. So have y’all done a dinner yet? Uh yeah we have at the uh Cowboys club. What stand out about that dinner? Just you and Shotty. Uh just everything. Uh the culture too. That’s the thing. Like it’s super refreshing with a different culture. So, Texas brings a whole different culture. I like it. How much of a fresh start did that you felt like you needed? Uh, I didn’t I didn’t, you know what I mean? Like everything is as far as city-wise, every city’s different, but as far as like organizational wise, teams, like I said, the plays are kind of universal. Uh, just a refreshing as far as teammates, I’ll probably say, cuz there’s a new group of guys, a new group of coaching, you know what I mean? What are you looking forward to experiencing in Dallas outside of the football season? Uh, just the people, you know what I That’s one thing like that’s why I say in Pittsburgh they got a different type that’s why I say everything’s different so it’s different type of people and I’ll say Dallas I definitely want to meet the people. Did you get a hat and boots yet? I know Booker did. No, I was supposed to get a hat the first day I met Jerry but we’re working on that. Yeah. Thank you, man. For sure. Thank you. In clarity.

George Pickens met with the media to discuss his trade from the Steelers to the Cowboys, his relationship with CeeDee Lamb, the culture that Coach Schottenheimer has created, and more.

  1. Welcome to the Cowboys George! I feel like you’re going to fit in great with the team vibe. We’re all rooting for you! Wishing you the best season.

  2. I wanna believe him when he says he's a chill guy because honestly he does sound and come off as a chill guy….. We've just seen so much craziness from him I don't know what to believe. From the eye tape he wore that said "Always F*cking Open" 🤣 to the weekly crash outs on the field i couldn't tell you whats about to happen. But im here for it TY Jerry 💯👏🏽🤣. Boy we sure do know how to entertain 💯😭🤣

  3. It’s been a really long time since I’ve been excited for an upcoming season , definitely got a tough schedule nothing is gonna be easy but I’m hyped !!! Let’s Go !!!!

  4. We all know you are gonna be a great fit with this offense, but don’t be stupid, we need the cowboys to give you a new contract soon!🤫

  5. Steeler fan here…. Yall got a dog! I mean a straight up FREAK. If he can control his temper he’s unstoppable and your offense will be elite.

  6. Hopefully the O can stay healthy & we can get a running game & our Oline balls & if so along with a running game then Lamb, Pickens, Ferg , Tolbert & even Turpin could legit be scary bc if we turn on the run game then the D got to drop men down & these guys could legit eat & may help Dak Also & to stay healthy

  7. How can anyone not like this cat? Better yet how can anyone not be absolutely stoked for this coming season and what he's going to look like in this offense and what he can and will bring to this team?

  8. he sounds reasonable. sometimes you can just tell by how a guy speaks. when cowboys drafted kelvin joseph . i was like ' nope, this guy is going to be out of the league in a few years". Pickins sounds like a kid turning into more of a man.. and you know he is smart enough to know what this year means to him and his financial future. this is the cowboys best trade since Charles Haley.
