Arizona Diamondbacks vs Los Angeles Dodgers Predictions Today | Tuesday Top MLB Picks For 5/20/25

The Diamondbacks travel to Los Angeles. Well, they’re already in Los Angeles as they put a whooping on the Dodgers yesterday, scoring seven runs, going up 7 nothing, and then the game got out of hand after that. Couple of meaningless runs and a couple of uh things that didn’t matter happened after that. In the end, winning is really all that matters and the Diamondbacks managed to do that. As a matter of fact, the Dodgers have lost four in a row. But let’s look at why they’ve lost four in a row. Uh the reason they’ve lost four in a row is starting pitching. Their pitching has been awful. Uh Landon Knack, not really a major league level starter. They’re just piecing together people like Snell is hurt. Uh uh they’ve just got so many injuries glass now. Uh Clayton Kershaw is trying to make a comeback, but it’s kind of like watching George Foreman box when he was 55 years old. He’s got nothing left. He’s not going to be the answer. And their only reliable pitcher is Yamamoto, who gets the start today. So, I think the Dodgers are going to break this losing streak because they face a guy named Ryan Nelson. Let me tell you something about Ryan Nelson. He’s walking two times the number of batters that he’s striking out, which is horrible. Uh, when I was a Major League Baseball scout, I always looked at the balls to strike bases on balls to strikeouts ratio. Uh, and I always want them to be walking about 30 to 40 less than 40% of the batters that they’re striking out, which is means that they’re in control. They’re a decent pitcher. Anything under 30 is really good. Anything under 20 is amazing. Ryan Nelson is 200%. Which is awful. Uh, I know the sample size is small, but you cannot go through major league pitching uh, walking twice as many guys as you’re striking out. Uh, I’m sure he will correct this to a certain point, but to be honest, I don’t think Ryan Nelson is a very good pitcher at all. As you know, I take all 250 or so starting pitchers and I rank them on a curve of 30. And I have Ryan Nelson ranked 25 out of 30 on that curve. Uh, where I have Yamamoto ranked eighth. So, Yamamoto is definitely in the top uh 10 of pitching, which means the one-third echelon of all pitchers. I think he’s a he’s an NL Sai Young candidate. He’s been pitching great. He is walking 35% of the batters he strikes out, which is a little bit high, but still manageable. Uh looking at the batting, Dodgers and Diamondbacks, uh they both rank number two. Uh they’re both smashing it pretty good. Uh Dodgers didn’t really produce much yesterday until the end when the game was already out of hand, but Tayaskcar Hernandez is back. He did not have a good game yesterday, but I didn’t expect him to have a good day on his first game back. Bullpen, uh Dodgers have a much better bullpen. Uh Arizona’s bullpen is just constantly getting blown up. I have them ranked 26th out of 30 where I have the Dodgers ranked 12 out of 30. So, where are we going in this game? Uh well, Dodgers are minus 210 on the money line, which is a little bit steep. Even if we use that little trick, uh minus one, still a little bit too steep. So, how do we approach this game? I really want to take the Dodgers, but I don’t want to give minus 210. Uh the way to go is two ways. Uh number one, I like Taskar Hernandez to finally uh get his bat going. If you look at his stats against Ryan Nelson, uh he’s three for four. I know the sample size is small, but he obviously gets the better of Ryan Nelson. And I think after one game under his belt, he’s going to come around. So, I like Taskar Hernandez. Hits, runs, RBI’s over 1.5, that’s on DraftKings right now, available at minus 110. I’ve said this many times before, but the reason I like hits, runs, RBI’s more than total bases, is because if your batter, who probably is only going to get four at bats in a game, gets walked, one of those at bats is wasted in total bases. But hits, runs, RBI’s, if he walks uh with the bases loaded, he gets an RBI, which counts for your prop. Uh if he walks with nobody on and somebody knocks him in, he scores a run, which counts for your prop. So, I like runs uh hits, runs, RBI’s much better than total bases. So, the first play that I would like to do in this game is Teasco Hernandez over one and a half hits, runs, RBI’s. The second play I’m going to go for is uh Yamamoto to record a win. In order to record a win, a pitcher must uh complete three steps. Number one, he has to pitch five innings. Yamamoto, no problem there. He’s pitched five innings. He’s cleared five innings in almost every start this season and I expect him to do the do the same today at home. Uh so five innings uh team has to be winning when he leaves the game. I don’t see the Diamondbacks scoring a lot on Yamamoto today, but I do see the the Dodgers putting a lot of damage on Ryan Nelson. I think they can at least be up one to nothing when Yamamoto leaves the game in probably the sixth or seventh inning. So that’s step number two. In step number three, the bullpen has to hold the lead for you. Uh given the fact that Arizona’s bullpen is so horrible, uh and LA’s bullpen is decent, uh even if they give up a few runs, uh probably Arizona’s bullpen is going to give up more at the end of the game. As long as they keep the lead and never tie the game back, Yamamoto will get his win. You can get that for plus 120 right now at FanDuel. I like plus 120 for Yamamoto to win.
