Could Utah Bring the Arizona Diamondbacks to the Beehive State a la the Arizona Coyotes-turned-Ut…
Band of the day today, Alice Cooper and Judas Priest. It’s brought to you by Live Nation. For all the live concerts and events in 2025, you just check out liveation.com. Schools out that time of year, huh? That it is. Alice Cooper, hardcore golfer. Yeah. Papa Hatches played with Alice Cooper once upon a time. Big Al. Big Al. Yes. No. My dad was at a ProAm celebrity deal and Cooper was part of the group he was playing with. Yeah. He loves himself uh golf. Vincent Damon Fernier I think is his uh real name. They believe he was born in Detroit. Now, his father was a preacher by the name of Ether Moroni. How about that? Uhhuh. Ethan Moroni or Ether, not Ethan. Ether. E T H E R. Ether Moroni. Fernier. Very strong. Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints names. It is. Yes. As I understand, you’ve been you told me I think it was uh uh an offshoot of the faith. [Music] A alternative. Yeah. Whatever. I don’t know what you call. Yeah. Offshoot is probably the right term for that. His grandfather was an apostle for the church and is uh but the church is known as also a a bricktonite church and has its roots with Sydney Sydney Riggnon Sydney Rigdon. All right, your Sunday school lesson for the day on this Wednesday, May 21st. Utah Mormon history. We got it all covered for you. You went to high school in Phoenix. Now there’s a connection here. uh Cortez High School, the home of Duffy Dyer, who was a catcher for the Mets way back when. Um my wife coached basketball at that school. And Phoenix, are we going to steal them again? Are we going to go Ricky Henderson on them? Now, who was this? Who said this? Uh uh county commissioner type guy? I’m pulling up the name right now. It’s I believe it was actually the heart of like their business community. Let me pull it up. Yeah, I should, you know, now as he’s pulling it up, the Arizona got it. Arizona Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Danny Seiden, I think. Okay. Yeah. Yeah, that’s an important position. Uh that uh that position for sure. Um the Diamond Bagsman had that downtown ballpark. I think their first season was 98. Uh, I remember I was in Phoenix the the opening day, but I was not uh out outside of the airport. The I think the season opened the day like on the Wednesday after the youths played in the final four or the Tuesday it was. Uh, so they lost what Kentucky the night before. I had a flight out of uh Austin that went through Phoenix. So, it was actually in Phoenix when the uh season was beginning. And the ballpark is old. It needs uh renovations and whatnot, but you know, money’s involved. So, who’s going to pay? You got that stuff going on there. So, there has been some talk of them moving. Didn’t they didn’t they take out some type of uh uh land or something? Uh I I don’t know the exact story in Henderson, Nevada before the athletics had their deal. So that got out. Yeah. They had they had at least registered some interest, right? Yeah. That I think that’s gone by the wayside with the athletics getting ready getting ready to move. Uh so this is what uh the Chamber of Commerce guy said yesterday to the to the city council. Was it? Oh, this is on this is on a radio show. Uh Oh, yeah. That’s right. It was on a radio show. Yeah. KTR Bonavville. Same station, the same company that we work for. Uh that they’re down there. They own the sports station roomhead or something like that. I think the name of the show. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It’s is uh it’s like a midday show like would be here on KSL. So go ahead. Utah is being very aggressive. Oregon’s being very aggressive. They’re passing legislation. 800600 million to pay for a new baseball stadium. That’s not anything what the Diamondbacks are looking for. They’re looking for some recapture of income generated that they can bond off of. this the team will put way more in, hundreds of millions of dollars more in than any public dollars will go into to keep that asset here. I mean, if we’re not careful, we’re going to see that the Arizona Diamondbacks become the Utah pico or whatever awful animal they’ll change it to. Like they took our coyotes and turned into the mastadon elephant. Is that what it is? The mastadons. Something ter I don’t even want to say it. It’s so the mammoths. It hurts my heart. Some some Utah nonsense. I’m very pro Arizona here. So, um, we can’t allow that to happen to the Dbacks. We know Derek Hall. We know how hard he’s working to keep it here. And I think again the mayor’s coming around. You should try to get that guy on. Some Utah nonsense, people. The mastadon elephants. Come on, man. The battle is on between Utah and Arizona. Bring in that baseball team. We’re calling them the Utah Sega Liies just to make you mad. Okay. Some Utah the masca something. The pika. I what I understand is a pika is like a really small rodent that lives like an alpine. Yeah. Well, he’s a really small rodent, too. Wow. The Utahers have awful name. The Mastadon Elephants. It hurts my heart. He’s a rat. I wonder the last time that guy went to an Arizona Coyote’s hockey game. Oh, you think that uh he didn’t put up or shut up now. They had opportunities, man. Multiple opportunities to build an arena land and voted down. I know in Tempe, I think Tempe was like on a landfill site or something. Yeah, they were trying to build on an old land and the people folks voted it down and obviously we know what happened. They’re here. They’re flying high. Everybody loves them being here. It’s been a great marriage after one year so far. Uh we understand that. Uh Sky is uh about uh pointing upward, man. Everything is looking good for them. Everyone’s super excited. So from that perspective, what do you think, man? How about that? Would you take the Diamondbacks? Oh my gosh. Should I take him in a heartbeat? Yeah. 100 out of 100%. And Arizona, eat your heart out. Oh man, I thought you were going to say eat something else. Got me a little nervous there for a second. Eat my shorts. I began with S, but uh I thought, whoa, eat. You’re the one who’s got the dumb button, not me. All right, we’ll get back to that. A masterpiece of dog. Do you like a propos a prop a possible proposed deal that gets the Jazz two picks in the top five? Tim Mcome will join us next. Stay with us. 975 at KSL Sports Zone.
PK and Yawk talked about the comments out of Arizona about the chances of the Diamondbacks moving north to Utah if they can’t get a new stadium in the Phoenix area.

It would be a travesty for that to happen. And the team would go bankrupt after 1 season.
