The Blitz: On to OTAs | Dallas Cowboys 2025

[Music] Go [Music] Cowboys. We’re through one week of OTAAS here at the Star in Fris and some familiar faces are out on the practice field. From wide receiver 1 to QB2, let’s dive into the depth chart on this edition of the Blitz starting now. [Music] pops out to the right, breaks a tackle. They blitz it. Prescott throws it down the right side for Lamb. Caught [Applause] it. Back to throw. Rush. Sacked by Parson. Deltai snap. Prescott with plenty of time. Lops it in zone. Jake Ferguson. It’s time for another edition of the Blitz and happy Memorial Day weekend to all of you inside the Globe Life Studios here at the Star in Fris. Bill Jones along with Nicole Hutcherson. I know school’s out for the summer for many out there, but school is in session here for the Cowboys. started this past week really with the start of OTAAS continues for the next uh several weeks before they’ll be out for the uh summer. Training camp will be here before you know it. But it’s great seeing the team out on the practice field again this past week. Yeah, seeing them out on the practice field has been great. Uh but also the vibes have been great as well. The music’s been blasting. So clearly everybody’s pumped up to be here. I love to see it, Bill. Yes. And of course, we had an opportunity uh the media in general around Dallas Fort Worth able to watch the practice on Tuesday. There was no Micah at practice on Tuesday. He was here on Monday. It underscores the fact these are voluntary workouts, right? Yeah, I was going to say voluntary. Okay. That’s what we need to make sure is emphasized. But, uh, Micah Parsons, I mean, Shotti even said earlier in this week in his press conference is when he told him that, “Hey, I need you to be here.” He was here. He’s been in and out of the building. He’s helped with the team building, uh, group activities. Uh, so that’s something that he’s obviously been a part of. So, I’m not really worried about Michael Parsons. Uh, he’s he knows that he’s getting in his work despite not being here. So, the trust factor is obviously there. But I mean, the goal of OTAAS, volunteer OTAAS right now, and Shotti even said, is just to make sure guys are listening, guys are asking questions, guys are able to apply what they’re learning day one, day two, day two to day three, and so forth, uh, and how they’re able to apply what they’re learning from the previous day. So, uh, that’s the goal and hopefully Michael Parson’s out here soon. Well, and then Micah has been involved in many of the activities that have been going on, uh, this spring for the Cowboys. All right. The guy that was out there that looked really good out there was number four and that would be Dak Prescott. Absolutely. And he’s all smiles as well. You got to love seeing Dak Prescott all smiles. I mean, why not when you have now CD Lamb and George Pickkins on your roster. Uh but no, he’s been cleared to work. He’s obviously had to battle with injuries in three of his past five seasons. So, uh looking forward to seeing what Dak Prescott does. He’s moving a lot better, too. Uh threw a couple of nice passes in practice. connected with a couple of different receivers as well. So, I’m excited, man. We get a half healthy Dak Prescott in 2025. Bill, this is this is going to be fun. That’s one of the keys, of course, to this team, but also, and we’ll get into George Pickkins and CD Lamb coming up here in a little bit, for him to have the opportunity to be working with his receivers on a regular basis is huge, I think. For sure. And they’ve also been getting in work outside of being here at the Star. So, I think that’s also something important to note as well. So, the chemistry’s been working on. They’re continuing to build on top of that chemistry, and then only time will tell how that chemistry continues to form. All right, we’re just getting started on this edition of the Blitz. Later in the show, we’ll break down what did and did not happen at the league meetings as far as some possible rule changes. And coming up next, it’s CD, it’s GP, it’s CD Lamb and George Pickkins when the Blitz continues. This segment is brought to you by AT&T, official sponsor of the Dallas Cowboys. [Music] Oh, now we both on. Yeah, it ain’t no A, B, none of that. It’s one. You look over there, you see one. You look over here, you see another one. So, do what you got to do with that. [Music] man, we compliment each other very well. Uh, obviously he’s a he’s a tall tall figure obviously. Um, his ability to go up and get the ball at the highest point is amazing. Um, I don’t think anybody in the league that can really I mean, he’s up there with the guys in the league, you know, as far as 50/50 balls, deep threat. Um, anything as far as running routes. Uh, it’s pretty good. Uh, it’s it’s good to see. So, who is wide receiver one on this team? Welcome back to the Blitz. Bill Jones and Nicole Hutcherson. And there’s no AB. There’s CD and there’s GP CD Lamb and George Pickkins and wow, they are really inseparable out there on the practice field. In fact, we’re taping the show right here inside the TV studio here. We’re looking out on the practice field during the OTAA and they’re on the Jugs machine together. They go everywhere together. It seems like already they literally go everywhere together. I mean, inseparable is the perfect word to describe these two since GP has gotten here in Dallas, which is why I don’t really understand the conversation of can they really have a number one wide receiver or two number one wide receivers, right? Because I mean, these are two reliable playmakers. You look around the NFL and who p what passing offenses have the most success? They don’t have just one reliable playmaker in the receiving game. They have multiple. So what’s wrong with Dallas now having CD Lamb, George Pickkins, Jaylen Tolbert, the list goes on. But I mean the question is are they selfish? Well, Brian Shodenheimer answered that question. They are both unselfish. Dax Prescott said the same thing and he said that he’s already starting to have those conversations with these two guys about whether or not maybe week one and maybe UCD having to hold the weight. Week two is probably going to be GP. So they understand that, which is what I love to hear from Dak earlier this week. And I’m excited to see what these two guys do together, Bill. I I think it says a lot about CD. Here’s a guy with 236 receptions the last two seasons. And yeah, he’s got wide receiver one numbers and he’s accepting of his new teammate. Let’s hear what George Pickkins has to say. You found out about the trade with CD one of the first people you reached out to? Uh he was actually one of the first people to reach out to me besides Jerry and you know the actual people, but like yeah, as far as players, he’s one of the first players. What was that conversation like with you two? Like I told him, just good vibes. He was super happy. Uh some of the guys on defense as well, you know, whole whole team super happy. All right. Good vibes at the top of the depth chart. What about the rest of the wide receivers? There’s really good competition uh on this depth chart right now. Yeah, absolutely good competition. But I actually got a chance to hear from Jaylen Tober in locker room earlier this week and asked him like, “Has George Pickkins kind of raised the bar for you guys?” guys and he said honestly the bar was already raised before GP even got here. So with Brian Shamheimer kind of creating that culture, but I mean my thoughts are JT Jaylen Tolbert uh finishing off a career best in 2024. He’s looking to elevate himself. Cavonte Turpin, I mean the fastest guy in the NFL, you have to incorporate him in this offense as well. So the competition is going to be a lot of fun to watch. But Jaylen Crawford, who has had a great training camp the last couple of seasons, had a couple of good catches in earlier this week in OTAAS. But I I really think it’s going to come down to Jaylen Tolbert. It’s going to come down to Cavante Turpin. And you got to also mention Jonathan Mingo who they traded for a fourth round pick. Yep. You got a sixth round draft pick from last year, Ryan. You got Jaylen Brooks as well. It’s going to be very interesting, not only here in the offseason, but also in training camp. All right, the Blitz continues in just a moment. Kyle Yman’s joins us and what did the owners vote for and against at the meetings this week. This segment was brought to you by AT&T, official sponsor of the Dallas Cowboys. This segment is brought to you by Reliant, the official energy provider of the Dallas Cowboys. This week in Cowboys history, AT&T Stadium officially opened its massive West End doors to the public for the very first time with a ribbon cutting ceremony 16 years ago. Since then, the stadium has become known for not just football, but basketball, world class concerts, world championship rodeos, and soon to host nine World Cup soccer games. To mention only a few, absolutely amazing. It’s been 16 years now since AT&T Stadium opened. Kyleman’s now joins uh the Blitz. And it was a big week as far as we had league meetings earlier this week in Minneapolis. There was a lot of speculation, some rules changes that didn’t happen, some rules changes that did happen. You’re going to break it down for us here. Oh, yeah. There’s a lot of different things that could have happened. This was the one that really did happen. There’s a couple of tweaks on the onside kick rules to note. However, the biggest one is instead of it only being allowed for a team trailing in the fourth quarter, now they can go at any time and declare the on-site kick. Remember, with the new dynamic kickoff rules, you can’t just have a surprise onside kick. That was a rule that was implemented last year into the NFL. But now, any team that is trailing at any point in the game can make that declaration and say, “We are going to attempt an on-site kick.” And then to try and increase from a 6% success rate last season in the NFL, the league wants to have the kicking team lining up one yard closer than it would have in the past. So instead of that 35 yd line, now they move on and they move up into about the 36yd line in order to have that head start. They still have to be engaged with the 35 yd line. So all it is is just an extra step, an extra opportunity to look forward and to try and get to that football before anybody else would. We’ve seen some incredible onside kicks in the past with Brandon Aubrey and the uh the watermelon watermelon kick that was Greg Zerline a couple years back. I mean, the Cowboys franchise has seen some incredible onside kicks, but they didn’t have one that worked in their favor last season, at least from a kicking team standpoint. So, it’ll be interesting to see just how much that percent is, that percentage of 6% will rise with these changes, but it is going to give a kicking team an opportunity to possibly have some more success in 2025. All right. One that did not get uh banned from the league was the t the tush push. It was close though. Yes, it was 22 to 10. 24 v votes is what they needed in order to make it happen. 24 votes to overturn it. That’s three4s of the league, 75% to overturn the vote. The Cowboys were one of the teams, including with the other three NFC East teams, the the Commanders and the Giants, to vote against it. Of course, there was one team in the NFC East that did not vote for the uh for the tush push ban, and that was the Philadelphia Eagles. Of course, the team that has had the majority of the success with the tush push, but they fell two votes short. Philadelphia and any other team that feels comfortable running the tush push QB sneak sort of style, they’ll be able to do that coming up this next year. It was interesting just how much of a push there was to ban it from some of the coaches within the league. They had 16 votes in their initial voting earlier this week. That increased to 22, but they still fell two votes short. All right. And then uh the other thing that did not get to a vote there was a lot of speculation about was a playoff seating. Yeah, that was actually a a vote that never happened because the Detroit Lions were the team that presented this to the league. Of course, the current playoff seating includes the top division winners. All four division winners getting the top four seeds in each of the respective conferences, the NFC and the AFC. The Lions were proposing that it was just by seating and just by record across the board. So even if you weren’t a division champion, you would still have a shot at a top four seed, hopefully giving more competition and less resting for certain players in the final weekends of the regular season. So once they presented that, it looked like there was a chance for it to pass, but then they withdrew their proposal prior to the voting, never actually got a shot at it. Doesn’t mean that rule could change in future owners meetings. Maybe as soon as next year if another team wants to bring it to the table. However, it is not going to happen this year and the playoff seating will remain the same for the 2025 season. All right, so that brings you up to speed on what did and did not happen at the league meetings this past week. Kyleman’s, we appreciate it. And up next here on the Blitz, uh let’s uh how about we head into the quarterback room for the Cowboys? Yes, Dak, back on the field, but who’s QB2 on this team? This segment was brought to you by Reliant, the official energy provider of the Dallas Cowboys. [Music] [Music] [Music] And how much can you do? Uh, pretty much can do it all. Feel good. Um, uh, yeah. I think I’m just not cleared for contact, which we’ve got a while for that anyway. So, um, yeah, I’m out there in the team activities. Feel good. Just trying to obviously stay that way. Um, yeah, feeling great. I would say there’s a little ways before contact is uh is permitted for the quarterbacks, but here is the quarterback depth chart right now. Three quarterbacks on this team. You got Dak Prescott, you got 25year-old Joe Milton, acquired in the offseason, of course, and you’ve got 30-year-old Will Greer. Welcome you back here to the Blitz. Bill Jones and Nicole Hutcherson. Let’s start at the top of the depth chart. It’s very important obviously for your number one quarterback to be healthy throughout the season. That’s the goal for Dak Prescott. He looks great out on the field as we’ve talked about earlier in the show. But how important is it, you think, for Dak from his own mindset to be out here working with him and and how much pressure is on him to have a bounceback season after missing much of last season, too? Well, it’s crucial that he’s here to get that extra time to build that chemistry like we mentioned uh earlier in the show with these different receivers, especially with a guy like George Pickkins who just came uh not even a couple of weeks ago. But the pressure is on uh I mean more so for him, right? Because I mean the question of for of course was can he lead this team to a winning season? Well, he did that in three three straight seasons with 12 wins. Uh the another question was can he be one of have one of the greatest arms of Cowboys history? Well, he’s third on the all-time passing list behind Romo and Aman. So, that question is no no question there. Uh, but the real one is, can he stay healthy? He’s missed some a lot of time because of injuries. And can he lead this team to a title? He’s got some of the pieces now. Can those pieces around him help him get there? Because we got we have to remember that it’s not just all Dak Prescott here. The pieces have to help him around him. So, hopefully he does live up to that standard. And of course in 2023 he finished second in the MVP voting in the league too. So don’t forget that. All right. As far as quarterback two goes, you got Joe Milton out here. You got Will Greer. It’s been six years since the 30-year-old Will Greer started two games for the Carolina Panthers. Milton started one game, the last game of the season for the Patriots last year. I’m thinking it’s going to be Milton’s job, but obviously Brian Shottenheimer really likes Will Greer, too. Absolutely. I I think he likes both of these guys. And of course, the battle will continue until probably the end of preseason, of course. But we know what Will Greer can do. He left in 2023 and came back in 2024. Uh, and pretty much did what he could do, but I mean, I feel like now it’s more of Joe Milton’s time, right? Uh, they saw him in week 18 do what he did for the Patriots. Had some mobility, also had a nice arm as well. We’ve seen that in practice. Uh, he had some nice throws in earlier this week’s practice as well that we were able to see. But uh Shotti had said that one thing that stuck to me was his work ethic is incredible. He also said that he’s always the first person in the building and one of the last to lead. He’s attacking the playbook and picking things up very well. And also Dak Prescott’s taken him under his wing. So that can also play a huge role in how well Joe Milton comes out and performs and Will Greer comes out and performs. But I mean obviously both of those guys are putting in the work for sure. All right, we wrap up the blitz when we come back in just a moment. History made on the flag football field at the Star in Frisco this week. The Dallas Cowboys Blitz presented by Blockchain.com was brought to you by AT&T, an official sponsor of the Dallas Cowboys, and by blockchain.com. Invest like your icons with blockchain.com. History was made back on Monday night at the Star in Frisco. Arlington Martin crowned the first ever girls flag football champion. What a great spring season we had out here. Nicole Hutcherson, you were there. I was a lot of fun to watch these ladies hold the trophy in the end. Head coach Patrick Dunn there told me they didn’t have a team six weeks ago, but he was always confident they would be holding that trophy. And look at them now holding up the trophy for the first time in their program’s history. You know, and flag football, the fastest growing sport not only in Texas, but across the country. The NFL obviously is behind it as evidenced this past week at the league meetings. What do the owners approve? Well, players can play in flag football in the Olympics. New sport in the Olympics, of course, in LA in 2028. Yeah, it’s going to be a lot of fun. I mean, some players may want to use it just to, of course, compete for their country, but some players may want to not risk the injury right before the season. So, I think it’s cool to have and be able to watch for the Olympics. But, uh, it’s going to be it’s going to be interesting. It’s going to be a lot of interesting. See, there’s not going to be a whole lot of NFL players that going to be playing flag football. And even though they approved it, I’m thinking there’s a lot of owners who don’t really like the idea of of in August when training camp is going on, they’ve got players playing flag football. But we’ll see. All right, for Nicole Hutcherson and Kyleman’s, I’m Bill Jones. Thanks for joining us for the Blitz. We’ll see you again next week.

Brian Schottenheimer and the Dallas Cowboys have taken another step towards the 2025 season as their offseason program continues. Bill Jones, Nicole Hutchison and Kyle Youmans talk through the biggest NFL storylines.

  1. Dak is finna have that comeback season hopefully MVP season and lead us to that promise land and stay healthy as well and I hope we not only have a good offense but a really good defense

  2. Dakota haters stays in the comments every year saying that same old weak ass shit but they continue to watch every thing Dak does 😂😂like what they are saying is going to change anything 😂😂Dak is back deal with it ass holes its 30-plus other teams to choose from 😂😂

  3. This show is so dated just like almost all of the Cowboys own media content. Cowboys need to step up their media game and match what some of the other teams are doing now. Jerry is old and this stuff shows how dated he is.
