Time now for the Rav 4 things to Know brought to you by your local Tri-State Toyota dealers. Starting with number one, our nightly Schwarber stat. Kyle Schwarber’s nine home runs versus left-handed pitching are more than seven major league teams have hit on their own this year. And his 1203 OPS against lefty pitchers is the highest by a lefty batter since Barry Bonds had a 1300 OPS back in 2003. Verified error for sure. Number two, they’re road tripping. The Phillies enter play tonight tied for the best road record in baseball at 15 and 10. They’ve won 11 of their last 12 games on the road. Number three, lopsided. The Athletics have been outscored 72 to 26 during their nine-game losing streak. They were just swept by the Angels and they’ve allowed 10 runs in each of their last two games. On the flip side, the Phillies are averaging almost six runs per game during their current sevengame win streak. And number four, Bryce Harper is bringing it. He’s hitting .422 with 12 runs batted in during a 12game on base streak with four walks. He’s got six then strikeouts, four. And in that span, Harper has raised his season batting average from 229 all the way up to 75. Those are your Toyota round four things to know for this game one here in Sacramento. We’ll take a quick break, but when we come back, Scott Bransky sits down with the manager, Rob Thompson. That’s next on the Phillies Radio Network. This is the story of the one. And welcome back to Phillies on Deck presented by ESPN Bet Sportsbook on this Friday night. Thanks for staying up late with us as we come to you from the West Coast, Sacramento. A first time for everything, Rob Thompson. Uh I don’t know, have you ever been here before? I have not. No, but uh you know, we went out to dinner last night and walked around. There was some interesting places to see. Um so, and the and the ballpark, you know, the facility here is good. you know, the the locker room and it’s very spacious and and uh they’ve I to me they’ve set us up pretty good. Uh at this point as we tape this, I know batting practice hasn’t happened yet, but have you had a chance to get out on the field and roam around a bit? I mean, I know this field is putting in a lot of work hosting not only the athletics, but also the minor league team still. Yeah. And I think we’re kind of fortunate to get here kind of early in the season. I would think that this the the field the grass will be chewed up pretty good by the end of the year with both the AAA team and the big league team, both teams playing on every day. So, um but yeah, I haven’t been out on the field. I’ve had reports that uh you know, it carries here certain nights, some nights it doesn’t carry. Uh the the infield is is well groomed, but the grass is a little bit spongy in the outfield. So, we just have to get our work in and test it out. Obviously, it’s uh produced a lot of home runs. Part of that is because the athletics, they can swing the bats a little bit. Yeah, really good slug team. I mean, we saw it in Philadelphia last year. They came in and and uh they put some runs on us, so we got to be mindful of that. Uh I know that they’re going through a little bit of a skid right now, but we cannot take anybody lightly. We got to come out here and we got to we got to play Philly baseball. And you guys have done that by and large. I think 19 and three, something like that is the record against sub 500 teams. You must be proud of the way they have uh taken care of business and as you say not taken anyone like lightly. Yeah, absolutely. And and especially right now, you know, I I think we’re playing really good baseball right now and um things are are fitting. You know, the first three games in Colorado, we swung them bats and the last game we didn’t, but we got a great start from Ranger and and the bullpen did a great job. So, uh you know, things are are hitting on all cylinders right now and that’s a good thing to have. Kind of remarkable. You can go through a four game set at Kors Field and not just sort of blow through a bullpen, which can happen in that ballpark year after year. Uh your top three relievers throw a combined I think it was 26 pitches in the four days. That’s pretty amazing. Yeah, it is. And you know, you can the first three games we, you know, we scored a lot of runs, but but our starters gave us a lot of innings and that that really helps. They they they buckled down. They threw great. And um it was good to see. And you know, like I said, the last the last game we didn’t swing the bats that well, but we played really good defense and and uh Ranger pitched great. Yeah, I was going to say, what was your impression of him uh yesterday? Uh I know it can be a tough place to pitch for anybody. Yeah, I you know, I I thought he was good. I’ve seen him I’ve seen him better, but uh he really grinded. I I liked his change up. I thought it was good. Um his curveball he was landing. It was good. Um the velocity, you know, he touched 93 a couple times, but the velocity was just a little hair down, but yeah, Ranger was good and uh pretty efficient and gave us six and two/3. What do you got on a scouting report for Lopez tonight? Uh yeah, kind of a crossfire lefty. Um he can be tough on lefties. Uh basically fastball slider. It’s it’s a 90 92 mph slider that has some carry to it. Uses all four pitches against right-handers. Um, we got to get them in the zone and up over the plate and and do some damage. I know when you do all that advanced work and then you come to the ballpark and they make five or six, seven roster moves, that’s a little bit of a challenge, isn’t it? Yeah. Well, we have a lot of a lot of people uh doing a lot of work around here and and uh so we just um just kind of, you know, mix it up and and give people um give some of our people different players to look at and give us an a report. So, um, and they do great work. So, it’s, uh, it’s not all that, uh, it’s not all that difficult cuz we got the manpower. All right. Uh, let’s talk a little bit about injury. I know we kind of glossed over it the other day, but Weston Wilson is just fine, right? Yes, he’s fine. He just had a migraine headache the other night and it kind of affected his his eyesight. So, we got him out of the game and uh, but he’s in there today and um, he’s ready to go. And uh, Aaron Nola, any updates where Aaron is concerned? Well, he was going to do some jogging today. I haven’t got a report on it, but he’s going to move around a little bit more today and see how it feels. And we’re still hoping for a bullpen this weekend. And if that comes out okay, do you see do you anticipate maybe a couple of times on the mound to test it out? Oh, I would think so. You know, Tai’s going to make one more start and um at least one more start. Uh and then Nolles will come in probably uh after that after the Milwaukee series, we’re hoping anyway. So, um, yeah, I I think we need to get them up on the mound and and possibly see some hitters in a batting practice session, but you don’t anticipate it being a rehab assignment type situation. Not at this point, but um, you know, if it if it goes any longer, then you know, there’s a possibility. All right, very good, Rob. We appreciate the time. Uh, enjoy the evening. Thanks, Scott. Rob Thompson joining us here on the program as always. We’ll take time out. Have more for you coming up right after this. Hey, welcome to CP Ranken commercial roof management and contracting. We all did. I mean, it was a great game. Both teams played incredible. It was a great game. That’s Mike Piaza after he hit an eighth inning go-ahead home run in the first New York Mets home game after 911. Here moments like this and more on the MLB app and MLB.com. Moments in baseball have been broadcast on the radio since 1921. Smith courts went in right down the line. It may go crazy folks. Go crazy. It’s a home run and the Cardinals have won the game by the three to two. A home run by the Wizards. Catch the next unforgettable call on the MLB app and MLB.com. Luis Aras at second base will bat eighth and batting ninth. Making his major league debut tonight playing center field will be Denzel Clark. And on the mound it’s the left-hander Jacob Lopez. He’s 0 and1 with a 3.86 ERA. Kevin Stalker, not a real hard thrower, but a little bit of a sidewinder. He is a sidewinder. You set the starting pitcher scattering report. Lopez 27 years old. He’s 0 and1 3.86. However, he’s just recalled. This will be his second start of the year, but fifth appearance. It’s a four seam slider. Basically, those two pitches. Cutter and a change up. 901 tops. Releases hard from the first base side. So, it’s a hard crossfire with high effort to left-handers. And honestly, the command, the fastball command, it’s like a splatter plot. It can be all over. This is brought to you by SEPTA. SEPTA is the Philly way to go. Well, the first to face him tonight will be Trey Turner, who steps into the box, batting .303 with three home runs, 18 runs batted in so far for Trey. And we are ready to go. And the first pitch is a little bit high and outside for a ball. It’s 1 and0. Beautiful night for baseball here in Sacramento. This is a beautiful park. It’s not sold out tonight. They’re averaging about 10,000 fans uh per contest. A lot of Phillies fans here tonight. I’m sure we’ll hear them at some point. The 10 pitch is over for a strike. It’s one. Phil Miller behind the plate. We’ll call balls and strikes tonight. Chad Fairchild over at first. Roberto Ortiz and Austin Jones at second and third. Your umpires tonight. As Lopez looks in and delivers the pitch. It’s a little bit high for a ball. Two balls in a strike now to Trey Turner. I think it’s important to note here, the sun is going to be a factor for a few innings. Just in right field, a little bit in center field. First baseman and the 2-1 pitch swung on and hit in the air to center field. It’s pretty well hit. Going back on it is Clark. He’s at the track. He’s at the wall and that ball is gone. They told us it traveled to center field and Trey Turner put that to the test and he’s got his fourth home run of the year. One- nothing Phillies. Okay, there you go. Pretty good start. Yeah, the guys, they’re only going to be on the field today. All right, this a West Coast thing. Trey was out there taking some batting practice today with some of the guys. Won’t see him again. Usually, he’s buried in the cage, but not today. The fast ball just right down the middle. They’ve been giving up home runs at a an alarming rate. Have the A’s pitchers. Pretty good start for the Phils as Bryce Harper steps in. Face Lopez first pitch swing and a miss. 0 and one. Harper batting 275. He has been on a hot streak as he’s proved that batting average nearly 40 points. Takes that pitch a little bit high for a ball. It’s one of one. Nearly 40 points in the last what, two weeks? Yeah. Lopez comes set and he ticks and the pitch swung on and that one’s hit in the air deep to right field. Butler is going to back. He’s at the track. He’ll reach up and have room and make the catch. One out. Yeah, they told us that they being the people that are up here watching every game, the ball definitely carries to center and that’s where Trey hit it. Center here is going to be right field gap to left field gap and anything in between down the lines. It takes a pretty good bolt for whatever reason. Well, Kyle Schwarber will step in. He of 17 home runs already this year. Phillies with a one- nothing lead here in the top of the first. And the first pitch to Schwarber is a breaking ball. It’s inside for a ball. It’s one and0. I was watching Kyle’s batting practice today. I know you were down there on the field watching that. Seemed like every time he took a swing, it left the court. Well, he’s he just needed some tips. 10 pitch. Swing and a miss. Oneonone. Yeah, I mean he’s locked in right now. I just the way that he swings. That swing there wasn’t particularly great, but I think he feels good. His balance is good. I’ve never seen anybody swing the bat like he does where he stays in such tremendous balance. One ball and one strike. Lopez comes set. Glove at the belt. Dicks and the pitch swung on and that one hit down the line with foul on the right field line. I think he broke his bat. Did you hear Ben was telling Davis, Ben Davis said that the Phillies broke I think eight bats in Colorado and the Rockies were something like 11. Really? So he was asking me it must be because of the altitude. I’m like what does that have to do with broken bat? I have no idea. One two pitch way outside for a ball. It’s two and two. Blame everything on the altitude when in doubt. In Colorado it’s Well, that’s why I didn’t run or exercise. Solid choice. Two balls and two strikes to Schwarber. One out. Billies lead it one- nothing. Lead off home run by Trey Turner. The pitch. He’s a little bit outside as well for a ball. So the count runs full to Schwarber. Nick Castiano waits on deck for the Phils. Lopez looks in. He gets his sign from Langeliers. And now time is called. Corber steps out of the box. The playing surface here is it’s beautiful. I mean, it looks great. They now they have two teams playing on it now. The Athletics and then, of course, AAA team as well. 3-2 pitch. And that one’s outside for a ball. And he walks him. So, Schwarber is a one-out base runner here in the top of the first. And it’ll bring Nick Casianos to the plate. Really likes his slider. Now he’s going to throw the four seamer most of the time. At least that’s what he did in his last start. I have a pretty small sample size. Like 50% of the time it’s four seamer. Likes the slider after that. It’s got a lot of run to it. What did Rob call it today? The the slider that had a lot of carry. A lot of carry, right? A lot of carry. It’s fair. Castiano steps in from the right side. The first pitch to him is high and outside for a ball. One and0. Nick batting .280. He’s got four home runs and 27 runs batted in so far this year. Schwarber picks a short lead off first and the one pitch swing and a miss. One and one. Nick was out here early today uh taking batting practice. It’s kind of a routine that he does. He gets out here but I watched about 10 swings from the So I was able to see it from the center like a center field camera and it literally looked like he was just trying to lift and hit home runs every time. One ball and one strike. The pitch swung on line drive into left center field. Clark given chase and he’ll chase it down and make the catch. Get it back in. Schwarber retreats to first. Two outs. Denzel Clark making his major league debut. He’s already had a couple of opportunities to run after some baseballs. They say he can fly out there in center. Yeah, did a nice job there. So, two outs. It’ll be JT Real Mutoso coming to the plate. Starting to get on track in the third game there in Colorado, which was good to see. Got a day off after that. And the first pitch to the Phil’s back stop is over for a strike. So, just to clarify with Nick, I said, “Yeah, he’s trying to hit home runs.” So, I I remember playing with Wade Bogs and I never played with anybody that could hit the ball farther than Wade in batting practice. his first round, he would just hit tanks to center field. Pitch upstairs for a ball. It’s one and one. So, I asked him one day, I said, “Why do you do that?” Because in the game, you’re I don’t want to I hate to say slapping the but kind of did. He said, “I just wanted to work on hitting through the ball up the middle so that my extension was was correct.” And that’s exactly what Nick was doing today. I don’t suspect he’s up there trying to hit dingers every time. One-1 pitch. Swung on, popped up, foul over. Oh, we’re going to get one tonight. Nerf. I don’t know that uh the high net behind home plate. That’s probably going to prevent. You’re going to get one right in the noggin. Wow. I’m going to catch it. Are you kidding? One ball and two strikes to JT Room. Schwarber with his lead off first and he’s off and running and the pitch swung on and he misses it but gets away briefly from Langers. They’ll throw down to first for the final out. So a strike out there for Lopez, his first, but the Phillies able to get on the board in the top of the first inning. It was a solo home run for Trey Turner to lead it off. We’ll head to the bottom of the first. It’s the Phillies one and the Athletics coming to bat. From Westchester to Doylestown. Take a hack at guessing which baseball player or manager said the following. I really don’t know what to say. I’m just uh so happy I gave something. These people cheer. We all did. I mean, it was a great game. Both teams played incredible. It was a great game. That’s Mike Piaza after he hit an eighth inning go-ahad home run in the first New York Mets home game after 9/11. Hear moments like this and more on the MLB app and MLB.com. Moments in baseball have been broadcast on the radio since 1921. Smith courts went into right down the line. It may go. Go crazy, folks. Go crazy. It’s a home run and the Cardinals have won the game by the three-2 and a home run by the Wizards. Catch the next unforgettable call on the MLB app and MLB.com. Let’s see if we can figure out the following baseball slang term. Today’s phrase is oppo taco. Do you know what it means? taco. A home run hit to the opposite field. Boston with an oppo taco. His 13th and it’s a one-run game. Expand your vocabulary by listening to every game on the MLB app and mlb.com. Radio 94 WIP. Bottom of the first, Phillies with a one- nothing lead here at Sutter Health Park in Sacramento. Zach Wheeler out on the mound for his first inning of work. Lawrence Butler will lead it off the right fielder for the Athletics. And the first pitch to Butler swings and fouls that out of play. hits 0 and one to Butler batting .232 this year. He’s got seven home runs and 21 runs batted in Wheeler. The wind up and the pitch. That’s a little bit high for a ball. It’s one ball and one strike to Lawrence Butler. Wheeler looks in, gets his sign, he kicks, and the pitch. Swung on and fouled straight back. So, he’s ahead in the count. One and two on Lawrence Butler. You know, nowadays when when these games start this late for us, I shouldn’t Hey, I’m not complaining people. I know it’s late back there, but when it’s 7:05 here, the reason it’s so late is because of the sun, the small stadium here. I think it helps the right fielder. A one-two pitch. Swung on line drive, but right at Trey Turner who makes the catch. Easy play for Turner. One out here in the bottom of the first. Well, you accept the starting pitcher scattering report on Zack Wheeler. Five- one, 2.67 erra, 80 strikeout. Strikeout machine. Six pitches versus Pittsburgh. He didn’t need anything but his fast balls. Four seem heavy big time. 32 32 four seamers, 24 of them in the strike zone. I suspect he do the same thing today. This is brought to you by Septa. Septa is the Philly way to go. Jacob Wilson the batter and the first pitch to Wilson. He swings and fouls that one out of play. Quickly 0 and one to Wilson. Short stop for the Athletics. I think 342 so far this year with five home runs. He’s the real deal rook of the year candidate. I don’t see how he doesn’t win that unless he really just starts tanking. And the next pitch and that one’s a little bit inside for a ball. One and one. You know, this athletics lineup, you know, offensively is pretty good. They can swing it a little bit. You heard Rob Thompson on the pregame talking about durability to slug and, you know, hit doubles and triples and homers. One-1 pitch. Now it’s fouled at the plate. One ball and two strikes now to Jacob Wilson. Really been their pitching that’s that’s been the source of most of their problems late. That’s fair. I mean, you think about their last two games, they’ve given up 10 runs, right, the last two games. So, one two pitch that’s inside and low. Wilson dances out of the way of that one. The two balls and two strikes now to Jacob Wilson. Two pitch swung on and fouled out of play again. So the count stays two and two to Wilson. Philly’s defense of course Bryce Harper over there at first. Mundo Sosa starting at second base today. Trey Turner at short. Alec B at third. JT real Mutoo behind the plate. It’s Weston Wilson, Johan Rojos, and Castanos in the outfield. Left to right. Next pitch to Wilson is a third strike. Break the ball at the knees and he throws Jacob Wilson there for strikeout for Zack Wheeler. Tyler Sodestro now the left fielder will be the batter. Dodstrom 281 hitter, left-handed hitter and the first pitch to him is over for a strike. Phillies lead it one- nothing. Two outs here in the bottom of the first. Wheeler looks in, has his sign from JT Raluto. He kicks in the pitch, swinging a miss quickly. Ow and two to Sod. Working ahead. It’s what Zach does. as he loves to work ahead. No balls in two strikes. The wind up and the pitch. That one just misses outside for a ball. A little bit low. One ball and two strikes now to Soderstrom. And the one-two pitch side for a ball. Two and two. mentioned a lot of Phillies fans here. Billy’s in the first base dugout here at Sutter Health Park. Two two pitch check swing. Did he go? No, they did say no swing there. So, the count runs full to Tyler Sodestrom. Pretty close. 3-2 pitch held straight back. So behind the Phillies dugout, see a lot of red and blue Phillies jerseys back there. There’s a lot down. I was down trying to find some food. Uh most of it was open. Not all of it was quite open. They opened the gates and not everything was open yet. wind up the 3-2 pitch and a called third strike. Fast ball right down the middle and he got Sodstrom looking. Second strike out for Zack Wheeler and one, two, three go the Athletics here in the first. We’ll head to the top of the second. The Phillies with a one- nothing lead. Game is brought to you by Rotorooer. Great moments in baseball have been broadcast on the radio since 1921. Smith courts one in right down the line. It may go. Top of the second inning, Phillies lead it one- nothing. Alec Bow will lead it off for the Phils. And the first pitch to Bow. He hits it down the right field line. It’s not deep and it’s slicing towards the seat. Chase and just foul. Lawrence Butler had it all at his feet. It was only about a foot over that foul line. So, we might as well mention this now. This is going to come into play. So, the warning track in the outfield, and I think it’s all the way around, but in the outfield, it is much wider wider from the wall to the grass. Typically, it’s three steps. Here at this park, it’s like five or six. So, the outfielders visiting teams have had some issues, right? They go back on the warning track. They hit it with their feet and they give up on balls too quickly. Now he usually plays here. He had all kinds of opportunity to catch that ball. I don’t know what happened there. I’m not sure what happened there either. So B has new life and he takes it and hits a base hit into left field. Turned on that pitch. So he’s a leadoff base runner here in the second is Alec Bow. Nice job. Certainly Butler could have caught that ball fell at his feet. and it costs him. So, nobody out. Alec Bomb down there at first. It’ll be Edmundo Sosa getting to start the day at second base. The thing I noticed about the warning track and I don’t know when you walked out there today if you noticed it. It was awful spongy like really soft. First pitch to Sosa’s breaking ball over for a strike. What shoes are you wearing? I’m pretty sure it was not my shoes. Come on. Did you you didn’t have on cleat? You didn’t notice that? No, I actually went around. Oh, okay. Yeah. All right. Homem takes his lead off first and the pitch to Sosa is upstairs for a ball. It’s one ball and one strike to Admund Sosa getting the start against the left-hander today. Sosa batting 377. Every chance he gets, he’s been able to deliver this year. Bow with a short lead off first and the 1-1 pitch. That’s over for a strike. It’s one and two. Look, anything can happen. You’re in a weird park, right? At least the Phillies are playing against a team right now that is having all kinds of issues, but anything can happen, right? This is still a big leagues. One-two pitch, swing, and a miss. Sosa chased one upstairs and he swings through that. So, he’s a strikeout victim. Second strikeout for Lopez and it’s one out here in the second. And I say that because as I look down at my phone, I’m trying to find something to tell you. I see that the Rockies are winning 3-2 versus the Yankees in the sixth. Anything can Anything can happen. Well, let’s see if they can hold on. You’ll keep us posted on that one. Weston Wilson will be the batter and the first pitch to Wilson is over four strike that Rocky’s team uh eight wins on the season, their first 50 games. No balls in a strike to Wilson and the pitch swung on. Line drive into center and it’s going to fall in in front of Clark for a hit. Alec B will stop at second and Wilson will have himself a base hit. Didn’t hit it hard. A little bit off the handle, but worked out for him. So, runners at first and second now with one out. Well, on the mound today, the Marlins Sandy Alcantra versus the Angels. Use Kikuchi Alcantra who’s been scuffling throwing strikes. Not like him trying to slow down the Angels who have won seven in a row. That score right now is 1 to zero. The Angels in the bottom of the third. That’s sponsored by the New Jersey Division of Travel and Tourism. Find your wow right now. or visit nj.org. Runners at first and second, one out. Johan Rojos, the batter, and the first pitch to Rojos. Breaking ball falls in for a strike. Two and one. Billies lead it one- nothing. Looking for more here in the top of the second. Bol leads off second. Wilson off first. Then the pitch swung on and hit in the air left field. It’s not deep. Sodestrom will come in and he’ll make the catch. Two outs. Both runners retreat and with two outs that’ll bring Tre Turner back to the plate. He of the leadoff home run today. One for one. Lopez looks in, gets his sign, comes set, and the first pitch to Turner is outside for a ball. One ball on those strikes to Trey Turner now with four home runs on the year. 19 runs batted in and the pitch and that one is over for a strike. One and one. Well, Lopez sitting at I think that’s 32 pitches now. His first start his manager Mark Cotay said, “Boy, I’d like you to go 80 85 pitches somewhere in there.” That was against Texas. That was a little while ago, but one ball, one strike. Check the runners in the pitch. Swung on, popped up, shallow right center field. Butler, the right fielder, converging, and he’ll call off Clark, and he’ll make the catch for the final out. So, Phillies get a couple of base runners on, but nothing to show for it here in the second. We’ll head to the bottom half of the inning, and the Phillies have a one- nothing lead. Brent Rooker lead it off. The designated hitter and the first pitch to Rooker way upstairs for a ball. It’s one and0. Yeah, let me get back to that thought. I kind of left it hanging out there. So, his manager told him to throw 85 80 pitches. Would be happy with that. So, he threw 84 pitches, but that wasn’t the whole story. Next pitch is a little bit high and outside for a ball. 2 and 0 to Brooker. His 84 pitches were in two and two/3 innings, right? Yeah. So he’s like, I need four pitches. Yeah, not so good. Two balls and no strikes to Brent Rooker. And the pitch swung on. He fouls that one out of play. And balls in a strike now to Rooker, former first round pick of the Minnesota Twins back in 2017 out of Mississippi State. Wheeler kicks the two-1 pitch. Swung on and fouled at the plate. So it’s now two and two to Brent Rooker. Rooker betting 245 this season. He’s got 11 home runs, 25 runs batted in the two pitch way upstairs for a ball. Three and two. There’s no batting cages here in the dugouts, right? So all the hitting and everything in cages is all done out through the center field fence. Wind up the 3-2 pitch swung on and fouled out of play over the Phillies dugout into the crowd. Yeah. Explain that to folks because I mean generally in a big league ballpark a player in the dugout could go down underneath get a couple of swings whether in a cage or into a net off te. But here they don’t have that. There’s nowhere to do that. 3-2 pitch, swing, and a miss, and he got him. Well, I don’t need to explain it. You just explained it. Well, but explain why that’s troublesome for somebody on the bench. So, I’ll give you an example in between. Phillies obviously on defense, but I saw Kyle Schwarber was down in the dugout. He’s a DH. He usually stays loose, takes some swings. Now, he just walks around the dug dugout aimlessly with a baseball bat in his hand. Right. He has nowhere to swing and kind of stay loose. So, he’s constantly moving as the DH. Jay Langalers is the battery steps in from the right side, takes the first pitch a little bit outside for a ball. It’s one and0. Yeah, he he’s not going to know what to do with himself, right? You know, generally, you’re right. He’s just kind of pacing. We can see him. We can see him. He’s just pacing back and forth with the helmet on and his back. Kick and pitch. Bounce straight back. It’s oneonone. So, the other dilemma, too, is you get late in the game for whatever reason. You need a pinch hitter. There’s nowhere for them to get loose. I don’t know how they’re going to do that. Maybe you know I I know that the A’s have done it different ways. There’s been a couple times that they’ve just, you know, in between innings, you’ll see four guys run to the center field wall and out. One-1 pitch and it’s popped up right side. Harper giving chase over by the net. Does he have room? He does not. He lets it uh off his glove and unable to make the play. I think Harper thought that was going to be well foul and then got kind of a late start getting over there. So, I mean, that’s just that’s just a misplay. 100% misplay by Bryce. I mean, he had plenty of time. You have to assume the ball’s going to be in. Don’t assume it’s going to be out. The count is one and two now to Shay Langalers. He calls his timeout, steps out, readjusts his batting gloves. He’s ready to go. And the one-two pitch. Swing and a miss. Though it didn’t hurt Zach Wheeler. is able to get him on strikes. It is the fourth strikeout for Zack Wheeler already through five batters. The other thing that with the pinch hitting thing is sometimes they’ll enter defensively. Somebody will center enter into center. They’ll get three outs and the the guy just runs out to center field. He doesn’t even come back to the dugout. Goes out there and Yeah, it’s strange. Nicole Anduhar is the batter and his first pitch swinging and he fouls that one up the third base line. throw and one to Miguel and Duhar batting 312 this year. Yeah. So, the only place for them to take swings is beyond the batter’s eye out in center field. You can’t see it where we are and that’s where the Phillies clubhouse is as well. No balls in a strike to Andahar. Swings at that one and fouls it into the net behind home plate. So, it’s quickly 0 and2 to Andhar. Now, to be fair, when we played like in the 90s in Philadelphia, everywhere, we didn’t have anything. You just came off cold turkey. Okay. You You stayed loose. You stretched. But there was nowhere to hit or anything back then either. The O2 pitch swung on, fouled back again. So, count stays zone two. I mean, it’s old school, right? But, right, you just stay loose. You get out there, you do what you can. And uh it’s not easy to be a pinch hitter. Certainly, I can’t imagine it’s easy being in D8, although Kyle makes it look easy. Well, the athletics will be here for the next couple of years. They have a three-year lease here at Sutter Health Park as they await a new stadium. Next pitch is down low for a ball. Presumably in Las Vegas, although they have not broken ground on a new ballpark out there quite yet. Takes a while to get permits, Greg. That’s true. Got to know someone. Yeah, exactly. One ball and two strikes. The pitch outside and low for a ball. Two and two. What do you think about baseball in Las Vegas? Uh, great. I think it’ll be great. Sure. I think they’ll come. Two pitch. Swung on. Lined into center field. On the run is Johan Rojas. And he’s not going to get it. Balls in front of he and Castanos. And it’ll be a base hit. First base hit of the night for the Athletics. Look like Nick Castiano’s got a little bit of a late jump on that as well. And Rojos talking that over. Well, head over to Citizens Bank Park when the Phillies host the Braves on Thursday, May 29th at 6:45 p.m. And all fans will take home a retro Phillies cap presented by SEI. Visit phillies.com to purchase tickets. Nick Curts, left-handed hitter now to face Wheeler and takes that first pitch inside for a ball. Yeah, I think it’ll be okay in Vegas. I mean, it’s going to be hot, right? I mean, they have a AAA squad there now. I think they do pretty well as far as drawing. Um, there’ll be other reasons that people go to Vegas for sure. 10 pitch swung on line drive right field. Cast a couple steps to his right and then down to his knees to make that catch. It was kind of knuckling right at him, but Nick Castiano stays with it and makes the catch for the final out. So, we’re through two innings here in Sacramento, and the Phillies have a take a hack at guessing which baseball player or manager said the following. I really don’t know what to say. I’m just uh so happy I gave something. These people cheer. We all did. I mean, it was a great game. Both teams played incredible. It was a great game. Lefty on lefty and the first pitch to Harper. He swings and hits it on the ground to the second baseman who is up with it. Slides and makes the play. Crosses over to first in time to get the out. 43 goes the put out. And one quick out here in the third. That’ll bring up the restless Kyle Schwarber to the plate. Did you say restless? Well, yeah. He was pacing in the dugout, so he appeared restless. He’s ready to go. Uh, it’s pretty funny. Shorbber singled in his first at bat. He takes the first pitch from Lopez over for a strike. The one thing I do kind of like here is they they have the entire right field like from right field gap behind the fence all the way over to foul pulling around y1 pitch upstairs for a ball is is a grass burm. Yeah. Right. So what is that? That’s 25 bucks to get into the burm. It’s always sold out. I don’t know how many it holds. Four 4,000. I don’t even know. But that’s really cool. I started thinking to myself and maybe you know other than spring training sites. Have you seen any BMS in any parks? Uh I don’t think so. Oh, the one-1 pitch. That’s inside. For has to jump back out of the way of that one. Two balls in a strike for Kyle Schwarber. No, I I can’t think of any uh any big league parks that have that kind of setup. It is very cool. It is. I I like the fact that fans can do that for a big league park. Now, in the old days, believe it or not, there’s been a few parks that have had a burm. Two-1 pitch and it’s a breaking ball. Catches the outside corner for a strike. Two and two. I hope you’re going to tell us. Yeah. Well, yeah. I’m getting there. I’m letting you call. Fenway. Did you know that? I did not. They had what was called the beer berm. Two two pitch. It’s a call. Third strike. Warber caught looking at a breaking ball there. Good pitch by Lopez. And his third strike out of the night. And second out here in the third. So when they built Fenway back in the day, it’s an old park. To help hold up the big wall, they had a burm to help hold it up. The Burm actually was on inside field of play for a while. It was one of those, right? You could see old pictures of the left fielder standing there with this Burm behind Nick Castanos the batter. His first pitch swinging swings through it and it’s 0 and one to Nick Castanos. Now, it was also spectator friendly. They did have at one point spectators on it. It went through a period of adjustments and changes. Of course, it’s gone now. The one pitch swung on and fouled out of play. They used to have one in Wrigley called Wrigley Field Burm. Kind of the same idea in center long time ago. Obviously, you probably know about AT&T, which is now Oracle. They had the one in center field. They had a Burm, which was ridiculous in the field of play. People used to trip on it all the time. And the pitch to Castianos, he fouls that one back as well. Kind of an emergency swing from Nick there. Stays alive. The count is 0 and two. I got one more. You’re not going to believe it. So Dodger Stadium, the third oldest park in baseball, had a burm in center field for a long time and it was officially removed all of it in 88 to make room for bleachers. Okay. But again, it was part of helping when they first built it. It was like this perm. And I think it was in the field of play for a little while. Did not know that either. Yeah. The O2 pitch to Castiano swinging a miss and he got him. Another strikeout for Lopez. Fourth of the night. And one, two, three go the Phillies here in the top of the third. We’ll head to the bottom half of the inning. The Phillies still with a one- nothing lead. Welcome to the Chevy. Let’s see if we can figure out the following baseball slang term. Bottom of the third, Phils with a one- nothing lead. Luis Kus will lead it off for the Athletics. the eight-hole hitter and his first pitch swinging on Zack Willer. It down the right field line and it is slicing out of play. Harper giving chase but into the seat. So it’s one now to Aras. His first year with the Athletics was in Seattle last season. Really struggled. Batted just 191 a year ago. I think 270 so far this year for the Athletics. Six home runs. And the next pitch is inside for a ball. It’s one and one. You know, you you look down at these the lineup for the Athletics. You look at their home runs. You know, everybody seems to have a handful, right? And I think it’s partly because of the way the ball flies here. That pitch a little bit inside for a ball. Two balls in a strike to Aras. Well, they got some pop, especially in the three and four spot. Wheeler looks in, has his sign, he’s ready to go. He kicks and the pitch swung on. line drive into left field. That’ll be down for a hit. Wilson giving chase. He’ll backhand it and get it in quickly. They’re going to is trying for second and the throw was cut off and he gets his hand in in time and allowed himself a double. Wilson got to that ball quickly. Threw it in. Turner had to cut it off to make the relay to second and then able to beat it by his steps. Now, this is a a weird hit. What I mean by that again, it’s a brand new park. This ball goes out into the corner. One of the things Trey can do, and again, Wilson hasn’t played a lot out there. Wilson gets this ball and releases it quickly with his weight going away from him. You see that as a shortstop, you can extend your yourself out there further. Denzel Clark is the batter and he takes that first pitch outside for a ball. Clark, as I mentioned, making his major league debut, so his first at bat in the big leagues right now. Usually, you want that outfielder to make that long throw, but there are certain times when you have to go out and get the ball harder than you normally would. That would have worked there, I think. Pitch to Clark is a little bit outside for a ball. It’s 2 and 0 to Denzel Clark. They’re excited about him here in Sacramento in the athletics organization. They don’t know how his bat will translate here in the big leagues, but certainly they think he can go get it center field. The next pitch, swinging a miss. Wheeler blows that fast ball by him. Two balls in a strike now to Denzel Clark with Urius on second. Nobody out here in the bottom of the third. Wheeler working from the stretch and the pitch. That’s fouled out of play. Yeah, I mean you mentioned the offense. They’re they’re full of young players. They got a few in the middle that can bop like you said. Okay, that’s fine. Issues. The bullpen has been has been an issue. Now, here’s the other thing is they’re taxed. their gas because the the starters just don’t go deep enough in the game for the A’s. Two balls and two strikes. The pitch swung on and that’s looped into right field. Castianos though it’s going to hang up for him. He makes the catch and he’ll get it back in quickly. Rice goes back to second base. Denzel Clark is the first out here and it’ll be the top of the order now. Lawrence Butler coming to the plate. I mean, if you look at their starting pitchers, the the A’s starting pitchers, they’ve only I mean, literally, the pitchers have pitched fewer than five innings in five of the last 11 games. Fewer than five, not five, fewer than. So, that really puts a lot of stress on the bullpen. It’s tough. Butler, who lined out to shortstop to lead off the Athletics today, takes the first pitch a little bit low for a ball. It’s one and0. One out. Runner at second base. Wheeler comes set. Glove at the chest. He kicks and the pitch. It’s inside for a ball. It’s two and0. Athletics wearing their home white uniforms with green trim. Green and yellow trim. Duo pitch and check swing and he swings through it. It’s two and one now to Butler. Wheeler set again checks the runner at second and comes to the plate and that one is hit on the ground to the shortstop. Turner has to go back to second. will make the play over at first for the out. 6-3 goes the put out. Didn’t look like Butler was burning it down the line, did Butler literally was not going half speed down the line, buddy. He just s Look, part of his weapon is speed. And you’re from the left side of the plate hitting it the other way. It will always be close because you’re getting out of the box a half, you’re a step and a half closer. It will always be close. He put zero pressure on Trey Turner. That’s horrible. Well, the Phillies will take it. So now two outs, runner at second. It’ll be Jacob Wilson, the batter. He struck out in his only at bat so far tonight. First pitch to Wilson. And that one’s hit lightly on the ground. Turner as well at short. Charges. He fires over to first in time for the out. So a leadoff double, but nothing more for the Athletics. And Zach Wheeler is through three. We’ll head to the top of the fourth inning. It’s the Phillies one and the Athletics nothing. They have a Toyota RAV 4 out there in right center field. Is that what it is? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It’s on display. I don’t think they brought that in for us. 20 pitch. It’s open for a strike. Is there something protecting it? I mean, nothing. Like there has to be something, right? What do you mean? Like like a net or something in front of it? Oh, I don’t know. I don’t I don’t see anything. I mean, they’re going to just take their chances. Two balls in a strike, the pitch, swing, and a miss. Two and two to JT Realm. Mutoo came into the game batting .240. Two balls and two strikes to real and the pitch swung on and fouled out of play. We’ll do it again. Did you walk over here from the No, you did not. No. Did you? I did. Uh some folks did. It is walkable about a mile back to the hotel. Two balls and two strikes. The pitch. Swing and a miss. And he got him. JT down on strikes for the second time and that’s one out here in the fourth. I will say this, like Sacramento is Sacramento. I have never really been here before. I haven’t been to this ballpark before. But I do know that I took the bus over. There’s a few of us on there. We got stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic. Couldn’t get here forever. One mile. Yeah, because one stoplight wasn’t working and it just messed up the entire traffic flow. Alec Bowen, the batter, he steps in from the right side. First pitch outside for a ball. It’s one and0. Yeah, I took the earlier bus than you and same same issue. Really lot of traffic. It took us a little while to get here. I couldn’t believe it. Might have been better off walking over here. One ball and no strikes to Alec Bow and the wind up in the pitch. Swung on and fouled down the right field line, but that’s going to find the seats. So, it’s one and one. B singled in his only at bat back in the second. One ball and one strike and the pit way outside for a ball. Angalier’s had to come out of his stance to catch that one. So it’s two balls and a strike now to Alec B. wind up the two-1 pitch outside three and one. We’ll say one thing about Jacob Lopez pitching from the left side in TripleA. He’s been pitching really well down there. It just hasn’t translated up here yet. 3-1 pitch swung on and hit high in the air. Shallow center field. Clark running in. He’s calling for it and he will make the catch for the out. Man, that thing was up there a mile high. One out, two outs. Tie up your tie up your laces and get ready for Neore’s Children’s Health. Now, the A’s haven’t been in last place for very long. No, the O2 pitch and that one is down low for ball one and two, but they are in last place now at the moment. So, geez, I I I don’t remember. I don’t either. I I I can’t remember as a player doing that, but I will tell you, we were in last place a lot. I was going to say, weren’t you one of those teams? One ball and two strikes to Sosa. The pitch swing and a miss and he got him. Sosa chasing that and it’s another strikeout for Jacob or for Lopez and these get the Phils one, two, three here in the fourth. Yeah, the high fast ball too I think seems to be getting some of the guys to chase. He’s using the four seamer cutter and slider quite a bit. That’ll bring Johan Rojas to the plate. He flew out to right field and his only at bat takes the first pitch over the outside corner for a strike. Did you ask Larry about Sacramento? I did. No, I did. One of your other former coaches, John Vukovich, also a Sacramento. Seriously, Vuk’s from here. Yeah, Larry certainly didn’t tell me that. I I mean, I knew those guys were teammates and they were my coaches in 93. I mean, unless he came the little sense. One pitch, swinging a miss. It’s 0 and2 now to Johan Rojos. Number eight on the night. Two quick outs here in the fifth. Running that slider down and in, trying to get it in to the rightanders. You mentioned it earlier about having a lot of run. Right-handed pitcher Tommy Green pitches the eighth no hitter in Philly’s history, a two to zero win at Montreal before 8,833 people. Bottom of the fifth inning, Bills lead one- nothing and Miguel Anduhar hits a hard rocket right at Alec Bow who picks it on one hop. Able to steady himself, make the throw over to first for the first out. One pitch, one out here in the bottom of the fifth inning. I wasn’t at that no hitter comment. No, that was 91. I went up till 93. But in 93 when I was in Montreal, it’s when I saw my first streaker. Oh, okay. In the game. Yeah. First streaker. Jumped out. Almost as memorable as the no hitter probably. Was it was a male or female? Uh male. Okay. One pitch to Nick Curts is over for a strike. Yeah, he jumped out because the dugouts there didn’t go down in. And they were just straight. Imagine walking straight in and straight out. And then there was a wall about 7 8 ft. Next pitch to Curts a little bit low for a ball. And uh we were in there and I look over and this guy jumps out of the stands and he plops down kind of rolls and he gets up and he has his shirt in one hand and his pants in the other and he has cowboy boots on and nothing else and he takes off running. One-1 pitch swing and a miss. One and two now to Nick Curts. Did you go and and Murf? help out Murf security. I mean, tackle the guy or No, I did not. No, but boy, it hurt when they tackled me. You in your brand new cowboy boots. One ball and two strikes to Nick Curts. The wind up and the pitch. Swing and a miss. He got him. Boy, Zach blew him away. Fast ball there and it’s two outs here in the fifth. That’s pretty funny. Thankfully that that seems to have gone away. Streaky periods that doesn’t happen very often. I think there’s a I think there’s much better security on the field as well. More than likely big part of it. Luis Marius is the batter. First pitch. Fouls it at the plate. Going off of JT. He’s going to get up and walk that one off. I think took that off the top of his foot. Snowballs and a strike to Aras. He doubled the lead off the third inning in his only at bat. He was stranded there. You know, it’s funny you say that the dugouts were, you know, flat straight across. So then in theory, they’re not dug out, right? I mean, that’s what the the term is, right? You know, you You’re right. No balls in a strike to Aras and the pitch. It’s inside and low for a ball. One-on-one. What do you call it? A dug in. I I think you would probably in technically just call it bench maybe. Okay. One-1 pitch. Swinging a miss in. I mean, everybody would call it a dugout because it’s what you do in baseball, right? I’m just saying. And the other thing is it didn’t because of that. It was straight in, straight out. There were no uh fences or anything in front of you. Really? No. I mean, it was like if ball comes in, look out. Look out. Oh, yeah. Yep. One ball and two strikes, two outs. Bottom of the fifth. Wheeler kicks the pitch outside. Two and two. San Diego was like that. Okay. We played the Padres’s. They had the same Jack Murphy. Uh it was Jack Murphy and then it became Qualcomm. Okay. I think I’m saying that right. Two balls and two strikes. The pitch swung on, hit in the air to center field. Going back on it is Rojos. But right before the track, he has room. He reaches up and makes the catch for the final out. Easy inning for Zack Wheeler there in the fifth. 1, two, three, go. The Athletics will head to the top of the sixth inning. Phillies still holding on to that one- nothing lead. Top of the sixth inning, Phillies with a one- nothing lead. The heart of the order for the Phils. Harper Schwarber Castanos. Two, three, and four tonight. And first pitch to Bryce Harper. He swings and swings through that one. So on one. Gotta say I’m impressed with Jacob Lopez. He’s been pretty good. A mistake to Trey Turner to lead off the game and pretty good since then. The 01 pitch that one hits Bryce Harper on the elbow and Bryce is not happy and he is bent over in pain. And now comes Paul Bukite to check on him, Philly’s trainer. And Rob Thompson coming out as well. who’s still at home plate kind of uh bending over and taking another look. I think it hit him right on the el Oh, the back elbow. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, if there’s a place to get hit, you don’t like the elbow, but I would say it wasn’t on the point of the elbow. Imagine kind of the underside of the forearm. Yeah. And he’s got some forearms, so it’s going to hurt, but uh he’s okay. Hey, he’s going to head down to take his base down there at first base. So, that’s good news for the Phils. Not sure that’s going to leave a mark, but Harper’s a leadoff base runner here in the six. It’s going to bring Kyle Schwarber to the plate. It looked like Harper might have had a word or two for I think. Yeah. I mean, it certainly wasn’t intentional and I think he’s just upset with himself. He wasn’t upset with himself or him. Just upset, right, that he got hit. I mean, look, I’m going to be honest with you. Coming here to this park for anybody is going to be a challenge mentally. It just is because it’s a AAA park. It’s not a big league park. Nothing against the A’s. It is what it is. It’s just going to be a challenge. Kyle Schwarber’s the batter. He takes the first pitch a little bit outside for a ball. So, it’s one and0. Harper’s over at first. Leadoff base runner for the Phillies here in the sixth with their one- nothing lead. Lopez comes set and the pitch breaking ball outside for a ball. It’s two and0. Former singled and struck out. Two tonight. Harper takes a short lead off first and the pitch. And it’s a breaking ball. And that one’s over for a strike. It’s two and one. Let’s see. His fast ball runs 90.5. I don’t know that he’s reached 91 tonight. The slider’s mid70s. Changes speeds with it. I think he’s thrown a change up or two. Not many. That’s about it. Lopez checks the runner at first. Comes to the plate. That’s outside for a ball. So, he’s falling behind Kyle Schwarber now. Three and one. Schwarber’s going to get something to hit here. I I think he’s looking for something to hit for sure. Harper leads off first being held on by Curts and the pitch and it’s a breaking ball. That’s a good one. Over for a strike. Good take. So now the count is full to Kyle Schwarber. I can’t imagine that they’ll send Harp here against left-handed pitchers. It’s hard to send the runner in this situation. A 3-2 pitch swung on and hit in the air on the infield. Popped up. Aras at second base is under it. He calls for it. Makes the catch. Harper scampers back to first. And a pretty good pitch right there for Lopez to get Schwarber. So that’ll bring Nick Castianos to the plate. One out. That’s the Oak for two tonight. A good spot to pop one. Harper gets the lead off first. Then the first pitch to Castianos is over for a strike. Yeah, Lopez now really seems like he’s in a rhythm and the idea it’s so hard to get pitchers out of the rhythm uh nowadays because of the pitch timer. You can’t step out. You can’t really slow them down. Come set at the belt and the 01 pitch way inside. Castanos jumps out of the way. It’s one and one now to Nick Castiano. JT Realm Mutoo waits on deck. Phillies lead it one- nothing. Gay’s do have some action in their bullpen. Tyler Ferguson starting to warm up and they’ll make a toss over to first. Harper gets back easily. Well, he’s at 82 pitches right now and I I think that’s about the limit. Remember, we were talking earlier in his other start. 84 to 85 pitches is where Mark Cay the manager wanted him. That was in two and two/3. The one-1 pitch. There goes Harper. Swung on. Popped up. It’s behind the plate. Langelier’s off with the mass. He’s giving chase. He’s going to have room to make the catch. Harper has to scamper back again. That’s the second out as he got in on the hands of Big Castanos. Two outs. Well, bring your team to our new party space before a Phil’s game. JT 0 for two tonight. A couple of strikeouts. He was just buying his time for this moment right here. Is that what it was? Yeah. No balls in a strike to Real Muto. Lopez checks Harper first and he’s going to toss over there. Harper dives back in but not even close. So first disengagement, no balls in a strike to Real Muto. Two outs. Lopez from the stretch and the 01 pitch and it’s outside. Breaking ball. One ball and one strike JT. Sun’s starting to set here. Has set, but still some daylight. Lights taking over now in the outfield. Beautiful night. One-1 pitch. Swung on and hit in the air. Right field. Butler’s going back. He’s still going back. He’s at the track. He’s looking up. He reaches out. He makes the catch. He kept running and running. Able to make the catch right up against the wall. And that’ll be the final out. So JT gave it a ride, but no avail. And the Phils leave a runner on. We’ll head to the bottom half of the sixth inning. And still one- nothing Phillies. Take a hack at guessing which baseball player or manager said the following. I really don’t know what to say. I’m just uh so happy I gave something. And these people cheer. We all did. I mean, it was a great game. Both teams played incredible. It was a great game. That was a leadoff home run by Trey Turner. That’s the only scoring tonight. Zack Wheeler’s first pitch to Denzel Clark is over for a strike. Clark, who is making his major league debut, lined out in his first major league at bat right field. And the next pitch swung on it, fouled straight down at the plate. Clark’s mother was a Olympian. He was a athlete, which is the uh same event that Brandon Marsh’s sister participates in the O2 pitch swing on straight down. So obviously a tremendous athlete, right? The that is the book on Denzel Clark as well that he’s just a terrific athlete. No balls in two strikes and the pit. It’s upstairs one and two. He froze Clark. And it’s another strike out for Zack Wheeler. his seventh of the night. I think he got a little bit of help here. It’s a split and it just drops out of the zone in the inner half. I mean, to me, that’s outside the box a good two or three inches, but that’s okay. When you’re around the plate like Zach has been, you tend to get some falls like that. The leadoff hitter for the Athletics, Lawrence Butler, now left-handed hitter and his first pitch swinging. And he swings and hits a base hit into left field. Gathered up by Wilson. gets it back in, but a one-out base runner for the Athletics. Just their third hit of the night. One of those games where you’re just letting them hang around. One swing of the bat and turn this thing on its ear. So Wheeler now working from the stretch and it’s Jacob Wilson the batter and the first pitch to Wilson is over for a strike. Wilson 0 for two. Strike out and a ground out. One out. Bottom of the sixth. Wheeler checks the runner at first. Holds and then comes to the plate and that’s hit on the ground lightly to third base. Bone charges. His only play is at first. He’ll go across the diamond and get that out. Butler moves up to second. Good play by Alec Bone. Two outs. The right decision by Alec here. You got to stay, in my opinion, especially with Zack Wither pitching. Try as hard as you can to stay out of the big inning. Get out. Sodrom the batter now. And he takes the first pitch a little bit low for a ball. One and0. Sodrom also 0 for two tonight. Strike out in a ground out. A have a runner in scoring position. Butler at second base. Two outs. Wheeler checks the runner at second. Come set. pitch outside for a ball. Two and 0. Wheeler looks in, gets his sign from JT Raluto. Glove at the chest and the pitch. That’s over for a strike. Two and one. Butler a short lead off second and a two-1 pitch. Swung on and fouled at the plate. Now two and two with two outs here in the six. Toddstrom, you know, he’s a former rookie of the year with the A’s. 23 really struggled coming off that great year. 24. He missed a couple of months with a left wrist bone bruise and that’ll do it. Not as hard to heal. This year he started out the season pot as a pistol. Two two pitch swing and a miss. He got him. A big strike out right there for Zack Wheeler and he gets out of the inning without any additional trouble. We’re through six innings here in Sacramento and the Phillies have that one- nothing lead. Let’s see if you can figure out the following baseball slang term. Next phrase is oppo taco. Do you know what it means? taco. A home run hit to the opposite field. Austin with Taco. His 13th. He’s pitching so efficiently right now that they have a right-hander ready to go in the pen. The A’s do. That’s Justin Sterner out there. But those are a couple of quick outs in this inning. And think cut would rather to see if he can get him through the seventh. I’ll tell you, I you know, if you’d asked most folks if Lopez was going to be pitching into the seventh inning, they probably would have told you no, right? Weston Wilson, the batter, first pitch, swinging, and he pops it up on the infield. The third baseman Anduhar comes down the line in foul territory. Makes the catch and an easy one-two inning in the top of the seventh for Lopez. His night is probably done, but he was terrific for the Athletics. We’ll go to the bottom half of the inning. In fact, Edmundo Sosa backpedaling and he’ll make the catch in shallow center. One out, one pitch, one out for Zack Wheeler. Yeah, he’s pitching really well. Your PGW game summary. Wheeler here, I mean, starting this inning, giving up three hits and had eight strikeouts. How about Jacob Lo Lopez, though? He got through seven. Three hits, eight strikeouts. Not a ton of offense. Trey Turner’s home run in the first has been the only run for the Phillies. Her up one to zero at this point. PGW fueling the future. Jay Langal is the batter and the first pitch to him. Little bit outside for a ball. It’s one and0. Langelers who played his college ball down in Texas, Baylor University. Wind up the 10 pitch. Swung on. Fouled straight back. in his fourth season here with the athletics. 29 home runs a year ago. Got six already this year. Excuse me, nine already this year. Next pitch a little bit outside for a ball. It’s two and one. Two balls, one strike, one out. Bottom of the seventh, Bills lead one- nothing. And the pitch swung on, fouled into the athletics dugout down the third baseline. Scatter some of the players in there. Two and two now to the Langelier. Tanner Banks is beginning to warm up for the Phillies. Two balls, two strikes. Wind up pitch. It’s inside and low. Three and two. You got Langaliers then and Duhar and then the left-hander Nick Hurts. I don’t know if Tanner’s getting ready for that if we get that far. Line up the 3-2 pitch. swung on and hit in the air at left field. Wilson to his left and able to make the catch. Two outs. I think this ballpark, you tell me. I I think it’s brighter than what we saw in Tampa. Definitely. Now, I think part of the upgrade here that they did get new lights uh put in. So, they’re definitely brighter than what we saw in Tampa. I said that to Dave Dumbrosski earlier. I’m like, “Yeah, I think they got new lights.” And he looked up, “Well, you know,” and he was right. He goes, “Tampa’s an A. That’s an A park. A ball. this is AAA park. Like I’m like, yeah, that’s true. That makes a lot more sense. That is that is true. But they did get new lights. That was part of part of the renovations. And Duhar is the battery. He takes the first pitch low and inside for a ball. One and0. Two outs. Nobody on here in the bottom of the seventh inning. The Phillies with that one- nothing lead. And next pitch to Anduhar is fouled out of play. It’s one and one. Yeah, the clubhouse, the visitors clubhouse out there in center field that we talked about, that is new and the lights are new as well. And the new batter’s eye out center field one- one pitch that’s inside and low. They were all upgrades for the athletics, you know, to come and play here. Yeah, baseball, I’m sure, came in and did a full sight survey and they wanted there was some talk of them wanting to do turf. Two-1 pitch. That’s a little bit low for a ball. Three in one, no swing. Yeah, I think I think there was a group that said, “Hey, we put in synthetic turf. We have all these two different teams.” And it was like, “You’re not doing that.” You know how hot the turf would get? They were talking it would get up around 180Β° in the summer here on the turf. 3-1 pitch. swung on and fouled out of play down the first baseline into the seats. So the count runs full three and two to Anduhar. Yeah, players would hate that if the Well, we played on the vet turf. I know you I know you guys did, but nowadays it’s it’s grass. Yeah, just screw the old guys. We didn’t know any better vet. You’re right. You’re right. You know, you’re right. I mean, the grass here, the play surface here is beautiful. Very nice. Really? It is very nice. Three balls and two strikes. the pitch and it’s outside and he walks him. So, a two out base runner here in the seven. That will bring Nick Curts to the plate. Left-handed hitter. No movement from the Phils dugout yet. Looked like the Phillies had a right-hander up as well. I didn’t see who it was. Sack Pickering. Ryan Kirkering is getting hot with it right alongside Tanner Bank. So now JT Realm is going to go out and have a quick word with Zack Wheeler. In fact, the entire infield now on top of the mound just having a quick chat as they talk how they want to approach Nick Curts. And both bullpens are out in the right center field to right field. Right center for the Phillies, right pretty much right field for the Athletics. Yeah, it looks like Tanner Banks may be sat back down and it’s just Kirkering up now for the Phils. So Curts steps in from the left side. Runner to first. Two outs and a quick throw over to first and Duhar gets back. Herzo for two tonight. Line out a strike out and the pitch. Runner starts and stops as that pitch sails in low for a ball. It’s one and0. It’s hard to believe this guy hitting. Nick Curts was called up. He had nine months. He was drafted nine months ago. Yeah, it is crazy. 10 pitch. It’s inside. The Athletics made bunch of roster moves today. They’re just trying to find something right now that’s going to click and work. Uh, and a lot of their young players are getting an opportunity. I mean, if you’re playing well at AAA, chances are you’re you’re get called up here to Sacramento, right? Two balls and no strikes. The pitch, it’s a little bit low for a ball. So, now three and 0 to Nick Perz. Runner on first. Two outs. Phillies with a one- nothing lead. Just a little bit of a pitch around here. No, I didn’t think so. He hasn’t been close. Three 0 pitch. That one’s outside for a ball. So, he walks him on four pitches and it’ll put two on with two outs and bring to the plate. But that is going to bring Rob Thompson out of the dugout. And I think that’s going to be the end of the night for Zack Wheeler as he has made the call to the bullpen. Orion Kirkering is going to be asked to finish up this inning. Zach Wheeler leaves the game. He’s got a one- nothing lead, but he’s got two runners on. Two outs. Take a hack at guessing which baseball player or manager said the following. I really don’t know what to say. I’m just uh so happy I gave something. These people cheer. We all did. I mean, it was a great game. Both teams played incredible. It was a great game. That’s Mike Piaza after he hit an eighth inning go-ahead home run in the first New York Mets home game after 911. The pitching change brought to you by Pennington Grass Seed, official partner of the Phillies grounds crew. And Ryan Kirking who threw one pitch yesterday in Colorado to get out of a little bit of a jam is to be asked to do it again. And the first pitch to Aras is down low for a ball. It’s 1 and0. So he’s already going to have pitched more than he did in Colorado. You think he’s okay? I think we’ll be all right. Runners at first and second. Kirkering comes set and the pitch and that one’s over for a strike. It’s one and one. It’s interesting. You know, Zack Weer was throwing some interesting pitches to Kurt. So, he got couldn’t get ahead. Then he came with a breaking ball and it was you start thinking was he pitching around? I don’t think he’s pitching around. But I do think that maybe in that meeting with Caleb when he came out said, “Hey, look, this is their one big power guy. Just be careful.” One ball in one strike. Kirkering checks the runner at second and holds and now comes to the plate and he gets check swing. Aras went around so fooled him there. So he gets ahead of one ball and two strikes. Aras one for two tonight. He doubled back in the third. Kirkering the pitch swing and a miss. He got him. Orion Kirking comes in and gets the job done. It keeps the runners right where they are. But we are through seven innings here at Sutter Health Park and the Phillies take a one- nothing lead to the eighth. The pros know nobody beats FW Web with extensive inventory. New pitcher for the Athletics is Justin Sterner, the right-hander, and he’s ready to go on the first pitch to Rojas. Slowing outside for a ball. Sterner in his second season. Made his debut last year with Tampa Bay out here in Sacramento with the Athletics. Next pitch to Rojas. Swinging a miss. Oneonone. One ball and one strike to Johan Rojos and the pitch. It’s over for a strike. It’s one and two. Sterner went to Brigham Y Young University, Utah. 28-year-old working from the stretch. Comes set glove at the chest and the one-two pitch. Swing and a miss. He got him. Rojos chase one upstairs and he’s the first out here in the top of the eighth and it’ll bring the top of the order back up for the Phillies. That whole at bat for Johan right there went south when he swung at that first his first strike was on a slider. Right. Instead of taking that one, he swung at the slider and then he was all messed up after that. Craig Turner the batter. First pitch to Turner is a little bit high for a ball. One and0. Yeah, he took the first pitch, right? And then he came back with the exact same pitch and he swung through that one, right? And then took a fast ball first, right? Yeah. Just all messed up. One pitch to Turner down low. Two and0. Trey Turner. The reason the Phillies have a one- nothing lead. Lead off home run way back in the top of the first inning. That’s all we’ve got. Wind up. Two pitch. Swung on. Line drive into left field for a base hit. But Turner now his second hit of the night and he’s a one out base runner here in the eighth inning. Bring a couple of big left-handed bats to the plate against the righthander Sterner. Trey got that base hit a little off the end. He might have broke his bat, but he fell down. He fell right on his knees at home plate after trying to get out of the batter. Bryce Harper now hit by a pitch. his last at bat. But with a runner on first and one out, those looking to add to their one- nothing lead and the first pitch to Harper. Swung on and fouled back. Zone one to Bryce Harper for Seamer throws out a lot. Cutter and sweeper throws about 93 to 94 miles an hour. He’s nothing overpowering. Looks to mix and match with the sweeper. checks Turner at first base. Comes set and the 01 pitch outside for a ball. One and one. Pretty quick to the plate. If Trey’s going to go, he’s going to have to make sure he gets a real good jump. Pretty good lead for Trey Turner. Being held on by Curts over there at first base. Turner comes set and he’ll throw over to first. Turner back easily. Harper digs in from the left side. He’s ready to go. One ball and one strike. The pitch. Turner starts and stops and that one is hit. Foul right past the first base bag. Foul by about two feet maybe. Yeah. Is that right? Count one and two now to Bryce Harper. Turner thought about going on that pitch. It was a good job. He He didn’t get the jump right so he stopped. That’s smart. One ball and two strikes. The pitch swung on and fouled at the plate. Stay alive is Harper. Look like Turner thought about it again. Well, I think it’s a good count to run on. I like those odd counts. One, two, two, one, a 3-2. Obviously a first pitch. Turner checks the runner at first and the one-two pitch and that one’s in the dirt. Nice stop there by Langaliers. Keeps that in front of him. Keeps Turner right down there at first base. I say that because one two and 2-1 are really good pitches for a pitcher to throw an off speed pitch. Right. You when it goes 2- two, your pitcher is usually going to throw their best pitch. In my mind, most pitchers like to go hard, fast ball or cutter. Not a great time to run. Turner stops again and the two- two pitch is fouled straight back into the net. Good swing by Harper there. And the last part of that, Greg, if you cap on it, is if it’s 2-2 and you and he takes it now, it’s full count. Now you’re running for sure because the hitters you either walk or you’re protected. Turner gets his lead off first and a throw over. He dives back in there safe. So second disengagement there. Now, I don’t know cuz now he’s disengaged twice. Now, Trey had this happen in Colorado and he got picked off, but that was a left-handed pitcher. Turner comes set at the belt. Checks Turner. He’s off and running. The pitch is high. The throw down to second is not in time. Safe at second. A stolen base for Trey Turner. Gets himself into scoring position. And the count runs full to Bryce Harper. Well, he got there and he’s a little bit lucky because it was a fast ball up. That’s the two- two pitch I was talking about. That was a good pitch to throw on, but the pitch was on the shortstop side, so he slid on the outside and made it. Bottom line, guy. Nice job. Face hit should score a run here. Count is full to Bryce Harper. And the pitch and that’s inside. And that hit him. It hit him on the foot. Second time Bryce Harper’s been hit by a pitch in as many at bats. He is He is frustrated. drops the bat about halfway up the line as he uh makes his way up, limping a little bit and looks like PTO Figuro is calling for a trainer to come on out and just check him out. Rob Thompson’s going to make his way out to first base two. It hit him on the back foot. Ouch. So Sterner throws a pitch I’ve never seen before and I haven’t even told you this yet. He throws a palm ball slider. Okay. Right. So he buries it deep in his hand. It It comes out like a change up, but it has this break to it, like a slider, and that’s what hit him. I don’t think he was going to get a strike. I really don’t. I think he was trying to bury something kind of like that and just got him in the top of the foot. Well, Scott Emerson, the pitching coach for the Athletics, making his way out to have a conversation with Sterner just to calm him down a little bit. Harper’s okay at first. Rob Thompson has returned in the dugout. The runners at first and second with one out. Kyle Schwarber will be the batter after the conversation is over on the mound. Phillies have a one- nothing lead here in the eighth. Looking for more. Emerson returns to the dugout and we’re ready to go. Schwarber will dig in from the left side facing the right-handed Sterner and one out. Runners at first and second and first pitch to Schwarber is at the knees for a strike. Schwarber one for three. Singled back in the first inning, struck out and popped out. Turner gets a lead off second. Harper off first. And the pitch that’s outside for a ball. One and one. Nick Castanos waits on deck for the Phillies. Sterner bends at the waist, gets his sign, straightens up. He’s ready to go. The 1-1 pitch inside and low. And it’s two and one now to Kyle Schwarber. Sterner’s given him a lot of different looks at the plate. couple. He went fast ball away twice just off the plate. That was that little palm slider on the inner half. Not really sure where he goes here. Come set. Two-1 pitch. Swing and a miss. Two and two. Challenge him with a fast ball. 95. Reach back. Got a little bit extra there with Justin Sterner. The count is even. Two balls and two strikes. Turner off second. Harper off first. The kick, the pitch, swung on, hit in the air, center field, not deep. Denzel Clark is under it. He’ll make the catch. Turner thinks about tagging, then he’ll throw down the anchor at second. Good throw in there. Clark just in on the hands, I think, on Kyle Schwarber. And that’s the second out. That’ll bring Nick Castianos to the plate with two outs. He’s looking for an insurance run. At least one. Castiano’s 0 for three tonight. And the first pitch, swinging a miss. Pitches way out of the zone. No balls in a strike to Nick Castanos. And the pitch swung on and dribbled foul up the third baseline. So quickly 0 and two now to Nick Castanos. Two outs here in the eighth. Phillies with a one- nothing lead. Runners at first and second. Sterner from the stretch. The kick. The pitch. Swung on it. Hit in the air. Center field. Denzel Clark. Couple steps back. He is camped under it and he makes the catch for the final out. So the Phillies get a couple of runners on but they cannot score. So we’ll head to the bottom of the eighth inning and have that one- nothing lead. Introducing baseball’s all new national pregame show MLB tonight live at 5. Bottom of the eighth inning, new pitcher for the Phillies. It’s Matt Strom, the left-hander. He’ll face the nine-hole hitter, Denzel Clark. And then the top of the order here with the Phillies leading at one- nothing. The first pitch to Clark is a little bit inside for a ball. It’s one and0. Slimmest of margins for the Phils. Asking the bullpen to keep it right there. Stum comes set the pitch. Swinging a miss. One ball and one strike to Clark. I think this is I mean this scenario not maybe not just one zero but this is kind of how I think ultimately Rob saw this playing out with Alvarado being gone. You have Kirkerine to come in, shut the door, you have a setup with Stro and then you have Romano to close it. That’s the idea. One-1 pitch that’s upstairs for a ball. Yeah, certainly you’d like a bigger buffer if you could in terms of uh the runs, but uh that’s what the bullpen is going to be asked to do. Dram threw 15 pitches in Colorado yesterday. Comes to the plate. It’s fouled out of play. Let’s pause 10 seconds for stations to identify themselves here on the Phillies Radio Network. 94 WIPHD1 Philadelphia powered by the Tasty Cake Studios, the home of the Phillies. 94 WIB and Odyssey Sports Station. Two balls and two strikes. The Denzel Clark strong kicks the pitch. A breaking ball over for a called third strike and he gets the young man looking. The second strike out for Clark on the night. First out here in the eighth. Big pitch by Matt Strong. That’s the second strike out that I can remember now. I think the other one might have been Well, I can’t remember. Maybe your wrist, but I I can’t remember on that inside slider. For whatever reason, Bill Miller, home plate umpire, is seeing that inside two or three inches. That’s clearly just not a strike, but that’s fine. Take it. Lawrence Butler will be the batter now, the leadoff hitter for the Athletics. He takes the first pitch. Fast ball over for a strike. It’s 0 and one. I think that strike out you were referring to was also on Park. Yeah. Yeah. Back in the sixth day. There you go. Yeah. So, twice he’s been called out on that. No balls in a strike to Lawrence Butler. The pitch check swing. Did he go around? Yes, he did. Says the third base umpire Austin Jones and two now to Lawrence Butler. One for three tonight and single back in the sixth. Looks in bright blue glove on his right hand. comes set the O2 pitch outside for a ball. It’s one and two’s infield playing Butler to pull on the infield. Next pitch swung on, fouled out of play. One of the areas that I think the bullpen because they certainly are pitching better now than they did to start the year. One one of the things that has been better, at least for for me watching these games, has been the walks. For example, Matt Stum hasn’t really walked anybody. It’s been since Tampa, I think, that he’s last walked a guy. So, as a whole, they’re much better. One-two pitch outside and low. Two and two. Yeah, it makes I mean, it makes a huge difference, right? 100%. And the runners. Yeah. The A’s, in the other hand, we talked about their bullpen is one of the worst right now statistically in baseball. And they lead baseball, the bullpen in walks. Oakland, excuse me. Athletics two- two pitch and it’s outside for a ball. It’s three and two now to Lawrence Butler as the count now runs full. You’re going to get yourself into trouble. Well, I can’t say Sacramento. Yeah, it’s apologizing before we settled, but pretty good. Can’t be the only one. Three balls and two strikes. Wind up pitch swung on line drive into right field and that’s going to be troubled into the gap and to the wall. Gaso chases it, but it’s going to be a double for Butler. Stand up double and with one out, the Athletics have a runner in scoring position. Get that one on the nose. I’ll bring Jacob Wilson to the plate now. Right-handed hitter to face Matt Stum. They got some speed on the base pass too. Butler can really move. Scrum checks the runner at second. Comes to the plate. Swung on. Hit down the left field line, but it is hooking foul. Home run distance, but foul on the left field line. That was close. Wilson has such an unusual stance. He he opens way up similar to Cardi Lansford. A lot of people probably won’t know who that is. And he rocks himself closed before the pitch gets to him. Grom looks back at second and the 01 pitch swung on, hit on the ground to second. Edmundo Sosa is there. He’ll make the play over to first. Two outs. The runner Butler moves up to third. 90 ft away from tying this ball game but with two outs here in the eighth. All right. So, this is really the first time, right, they’ve had a base runner at third base. So, it’s a good time to explain the space behind JT here is enormous. There’s so much room behind the catchers in this ballpark. So, JT is going to have to work really hard. Block everything in the dirt. Can’t get anything by him. Tyler Sodestrom will be the batter for the Athletics. He’s 0 for three tonight. Couple of strikeouts. First pitch to him. Swung on. Line drive center field. Rojos going back. Going back at the track. Reaches up and he makes the catch. Johan Rojas down on his back but able to make the catch and he gets some congratulations from his teammates. Sodestrom hit it on the nose. Great catch by Rojas and the Phillies get out of trouble here in the eighth. Woo! What a play. We’ll head to the top of the ninth inning. The Phillies still with a one- nothing lead. Philly never stops moving. We’re punching the clock. We’re burning the midnight oil. We’re early bird. The big hits, all the great brats. You got to be kidding me. And all the swagger. Relive the day’s biggest plays all in one lightning fast hour. Oh my goodness. You better believe it. Quick pitch. Late nights and early mornings only on MLB Network. The Phillies play here. Sports Radio 94 WIP. Top of the ninth inning. Phillies with a one- nothing lead. JT Real Mutil will lead it off for the Phils and facing Mason Miller, the new pitcher for the Athletics. The closer for the A’s, takes that first pitch inside. High and inside for a ball, one and0. Now, Mason Miller certainly an outstanding player, an all-star a year ago, 28 saves for the Athletics last year. Next pitch to Real Muto. Did he go around check swing? Yes, he did. says Chad Fairchild down there at first. So, one ball and one strike now to JT Realm. Miller already with 11 saves this season with the A’s. Next pitch is a little bit outside for a ball. It’s two balls in a strike. The JT real mute though. Mason Miller, he doesn’t mess around. Look, it’s a four seamer 100 to 101 miles an hour slider and change up. Great slider. Two-1 pitch swing and a miss. Two and two. You know, he mixes. The other thing about the 101 is as I’m watching him here throw it, it’s almost like a short arm. His arm action is so quick. So, it’s 100 miles an hour, but with that arm action, it gets on you even quicker. Kicks the two two pitch swung on and fouled down the right field line. Out of play onto the burm down the right field line. So the count stays two and two to JT real Muto’s 0 for three tonight. Miller’s a big boy. 6’5. He’s listed at 200. You got to believe he’s a 200. Yeah, a little bit. A little bit heavier than that. Two pitch. Swung on. Out of play again. Third round pick by the A’s back in 2021. Is Miller wind up the two- two pitch. Swung on. Hit Al again. Out of play. We’ll do it again. The count stays two and two. Miller just 24 years old. Looks in, gets his sign, kicks the two two pitch outside for a ball. Three and two. Bills lead it one- nothing here in the top of the ninth inning. Wind up, the 3-2 pitch, swung on, hit on the ground to the shortstop. Wilson has it over to first. low throw and it gets away from Curts over there at first and JT’s off to the races. He’s over there at second. He’s thinking about third. The throw to third is not in time. It’ll be a two base error for Jacob Wilson to shortstop. Great base running right there by JT Realm. Perz actually lost his glove over there at first trying to scoop this. This gold went flying off his hand and JT with a really heads up play. Yeah, I mean it’s a tough pick, right? Curts tries, he misses it. But what’s really hard to see is it bounces off of the back leg of JT as he’s running through first. That’s how the ball gets all the way down into the into the ball boys almost into his bucket. That’ll bring Alec Balm to the plate and he takes the first pitch outside for a ball. One and0. So the Phillies have a runner over at third 90 ft away with a one- nothing lead here in the top of the ninth. Infield is in for the Athletics. And the next pitch to Bow swung on and hit in the air to right field. It’s uh in the gap. Clark giving chase. He’s not going to get it. One hops off the wall. JT will score. And Alec Bow into second with an RBI double and it doubles the lead for the Phillies. It’s now two nothing. Big swing of the bat for Alec Bow right there. It’s one of the one of the great things about JT getting on base there. Not only is he on, it’s with Alec coming up with somebody in scoring position off of Mason Miller because I think Alec right now, especially in Colorado, and I can’t remember the pitcher’s name that was throwing according to Alec Aillion, uh, has just been really good on the fast ball. So, the harder you throw cuz Mer throws just about everything hard, Bow’s able to gear it up and hit the mistakes. And that was clearly a mistake pitch. It’s good hitting. Absolutely. Edmundo Sosa will be the batter now for the Phillies. Home over there at second base now. See if they can add another. Two runs on six hits for the Phillies. No runs, four hits and an error right now for the Athletics. Runner in scoring position. Nobody out here in the top of the ninth. Bol with a big lead off second. Miller from the stretch. The first pitch to Sosa swung on. Hit down the right field line. Foul and out of play. It’s 0 and one to Edmundo Sosa. Now that was Alec Bow in Colorado off of Halverson who hit the big home run late in the game off of a 101 mph fast. Mundo Sosa been so good this year with runners in scoring position. Next pitch swung on and hit on the ground to first. Kurtz has it. He’ll step on the bag for the out, but it does allow Bow to move ahead 90 ft down there at third base now with less than two outs. So nice job by Edmund Mundo Sosa. Productive out. That was awesome. Like he’s not going to be happy, but he should be. And everybody’s giving him a high five in the dugout about moving runners over right there. So that’ll bring Brandon Marsh to the plate. Checked into the game defensively in the ninth or excuse me, in the bottom of the eighth inning for Weston Wilson. They’ll get his first at bat. Infield is in once again for the Athletics. And the first pitch to Marsh inside low. Oh, he didn’t move his feet on that. One and0. Miller comes set at the belt. One pitch. Swung on. Foul battle play. One ball and one strike to Brandon Marsh. Johan Rojas waits on deck. One-1 pitch. It’s down low. Two and one now to Marsh. I would be surprised if they send Alec Bulma on contact here. Um, a lot of other players I would, but with his speed probably would not. Two-1 pitch, swing, and a miss. Two and two. And B has to scamper back to third. Well, clearly looked like he was going on contact there. He sure did. So, two balls and two strikes. Brandon Marsh swinging the bat really well since coming back from injury. two pitch and check swing. He went around and that’s a strike out for Mason Miller for the second out here in the ninth and that’ll leave it up to Johan Rojas. Jordan Romano getting loose in the Phillies bullpen. He’ll pitch the ninth and Johan Rojos first pitch. It’s a breaking ball over for a strike. What a play Rojos made to end the bottom of the eighth. Stumbling catch out there in center field. The 01 pitch swung on and poked into right field shallow. It’s going to fall in for a hit. Butler plays it on a bounce. Alec Bow will score. It’s an RBI single for Yan Rojas and the Phillies now lead it three to nothing. No way. Keep that train moving. I got to be honest with I was I’m sitting here I’m like why why not maybe consider pinch hitting you know’s going to have to go in the game anyway. Well no Sosa’s there. You could have it’s just again you get into the bottom of this lineup with Sosa Wilson Rojos all these guys. When do you pinch hit? When do you not pinch hit? It’s a tough at bat for Johan right a right-hander off of him. But he got the job done. Well done. Nice job by Johan Rojas. So, two runs across here in the top of the ninth inning. That’s going to prompt a conversation from the pitching coach, Scott Emerson, out there on the mound talking to his all-star closer. Top of the order now for the Phillies, Trey Turner. But I suppose if you would have if you would have pinched hit for Rojos in that situation, the downside to that would have been you’d have forced Sosa to to probably go out into left field cuz Marsh would have gone to center. I guess they push him out there and put start at second cuz then you don’t burn Kepler, right? Right. You don’t want to I don’t think you want to put Kepler in as a defensive replacement. You like to save him. So again, you got to read through all that before. Well, it’s worked out for the Phillies. Now Trey Turner with an opportunity. Runner at first. Rohas big lead at first and he stops. He starts and stops. That one’s fouled back into the net. No balls in one strike to Trey Turner. Johan Rojos looks a little runnerish down there at first. Miller glances over the left shoulder. Comes set at the belt. And there goes Rohos. And the pitch is fouled away. and Rojos will have to return to first. 0 and two now to Trey Turner. Well, the A’s bullpen has just continued to struggle. You know, they’ve had the lead in the last five games. They didn’t have it tonight, but coming into tonight, they had the lead and just have not been able to really lock things down for this team. It’s it’s an issue. No balls in two strikes to Turner. Rojos off and running again. And the pitch is down low. No throw down to second as Langlers couldn’t hang on to that one and it’s a stolen base for Johan Rojos. Gets himself into scoring position. So two outs here in the ninth. Yeah, we had Mark Lowey, assistant pitching coach on the show last night. That was yes or yesterday by the pitching coach. He said, you know, part of being a really good bullpen is having a good offense late in games as Turner fouls that one off the front of the the dugout. you know, adding late runs instead of it being one- nothing for Jordan Romano in the bottom of the ninth. Now, it’s going to be at least three nothing. Yeah. Look, man, I’m not spotting you strokes on the golf course right off. Wait, why not? Stop asking. One ball and two strikes to Trey Turner. Rojos leads off second. Miller comes set and the pitch fouled again. Count stays one and two to Turner. Turner got the scoring started today. The leadoff home run back in the first. Also had a base hit in the eighth inning. One ball and two strikes. And the pitch that’s down in the dirt. Nice stop by Langaliers there. Keeps Rojos at second. It’s two and two now with two outs. Phillies lead it three nothing. Trying to add at least one more. Two two pitch. There goes Rohos. And that’s a base hit up the middle. It’s going to score a run. An RBI single for Trey Turner. And now the Phillies lead it four to nothing. Nice piece of hitting right there. Turner straight back up the middle. And that’s going to be it for him. Just like that, the closer. Miller couldn’t get it done for Oakland. Nice job, Trey Turner. Two strike hitting again. He’s been so good at that this year. Really has. And the Phillies have kind of uh broke this one open. They’ve put three runs on the board so far. So far here in the top of the ninth inning. We’re going to have a pitching change here in Sacramento. Be back with the details right after this. Ray Turner at first and the first pitch to Bryce Harper is outside for a ball. It’s one and0. Fourth appearance for Maldonado so far this year. Checks the runner at first and the 10 pitch and a little bit inside low for a ball. two and0 to Bryce Harper who’s been hit by a pitch in his last two at bats. 0 for two tonight. Turner creeps off first and the two pitch. That’s over for a strike. Two and one. The A’s only have one left-hander in their bullpen, Logan Harris. Now, in saying that, with these two guys, they’ve been so good against lefties, right? I don’t know if it really matters if you bring in a lefty against them or righty. Someone’s got to be able to get him out. Throw over to first. Turner gets back easily. Carlos Hernandez has joined Jordan Romano out there in the Phillies bullpen. Let’s see which direction the Phils want to go. Turner leads off first. Aldonado set two-1 pitch and that one’s in the dirt. Another nice play by Langali behind the plate. And the count is three and one now to Brace Sharper. I got a feeling he might come out of his shoes on this swing. Three balls and a strike. The kick in the pitch swung on and hit in the air left field. Pretty well, pretty deep. Sodestrom back and now called off by Clark. Actually, Sodestrom ends up making the catch. The two of them collide in left center field right at the edge of the warning track. But that’s the final out of the inning, but not before the Phillies able to put three runs on the board in the top of the ninth. So, as we head to the bottom of the ninth, Phillies with a four. Take a hack at guessing which baseball player or manager sent the following. I really don’t know what to say. I’m just uh so happy I gave something. These people cheer. We all did. Bottom of the ninth inning and Jordan Romano will check into the ball game in hopes of closing this one out here in Sacramento. He’ll face Brent Rooker, right-handed hitter. And the first pitch to Rooker is outside for a ball. Elsewhere on the out of town scoreboard tonight, the Nationals beat the Braves 8 to7 in 10 innings. Braves did get Ronald Duna Jr. back in that ball game. First pitch he saw, he homerred on. It’s pitch to Rookers. Fouled straight back into the net. But the Braves lose. They drop to one game under 500 again. The Nationals just one game behind them at 23 and 27. Yankees beat the Rangers today in the Bronx. One- nothing the final in that one. Line up in the pitch and check swing and no swing says first base umpire Chad Fairchild. So, two balls in a strike now to Brent Rooker. Four, five, and six here in the athletics lineup. Phillies with a four nothing lead. And the pitch swung on and that one is deposited into right center field for a base hit and a leadoff base runner here in the bottom of the ninth. That’ll bring Shay Langalers to the plate. Scoreboard update is brought to you by Oliver Heating, Cooling, Plumbing, and Electrical. You’ll feel the difference. Gordon Romano has been so good for the Phillies of late coming out of the bullpen. Nine scoreless appearances in a row and that first pitch to Shay Langalers. A little bit high for a ball. One and0. Thank goodness for those extra runs for sure. No kidding. Romano kicks the pitch, misses outside for a ball. It’s two and0. See if he can get himself a ground ball here. That’d be nice. Haven’t had a lot of action on the infield, believe it or not. As an infielder, I can remember. It’s a great It’s great for the pitcher, but you’re like, “Come on, man.” Next pitch is inside for a ball. So, three and0 now to Shay Langalers. Runner at first, nobody out. Langelers one for two in his career off of Jordan Romano. That one hit was a home run. The next pitch inside, he spins him out of the way and he walks him on four pitches. So JT Realm going to go out and have a talk with Jordan Romano. Runners at first and second now. Athletics will need at least one more base runner before the tying run comes to the plate. But not how you wanted to start bottom of the ninth. And he’s been he has been good. I just got done talking about haven’t been rocking people, right? But JT, good visit. Went out there, calm him down a little bit. Just remind him he has a four-run lead. Well, Miguel Anduhar is the batter. And the first pitch to Anduhar is a little bit high for a ball. It’s one and0. Runners at first and second. Bryson Scott checked into the ball game. He’s second base. And the kick and the pitch. That one’s over for a strike. 101. Mano checks the runner at second and comes to the plate outside for a ball. Two and one. He’s thrown 11 pitches, eight balls, and three strikes. Yeah, I know. Ends at the waist. Looks in, gets the sign, checks the runners. Two-1 pitch. Swung on and popped up. Fouled out of play. That evens the count. Two balls and two strikes. Two two pitch swing and a miss. Did he get a piece of that? No, he did not. As JT able to keep that it was in the dirt as JT keeps it in front of him and strikeout victim. Big strikeout right there for Romano. That’s the first out here on the ninth. Well, I’m not sure what Andar was seeing here, but this ball bounced almost on top of the plate. Mano said, “No problem. I’ll take it.” That’ll bring Nick Curts to the plate. Left-handed hitter and a first pitch to Curts upstairs for a ball. Curts walked in his last at bat. It was the final batter for Zack Wheeler tonight, who was outstanding as always. Next pitch. And that’s a breaking ball that doesn’t break. And it’s two and0 now to Nick Curts. Well, what did Romano threw 10 pitches yesterday trying to come right back here. I don’t know how long it’s been since he’s gone back to back. He hadn’t pitched in three games. You would think he would be fine, but I tell you, he looks a little bit tired. Two pitch. That’s over for a strike. I mean, that’s a that’s his fast ball at 92. He has been up at 95 96. So, I mean, this is a good time to come in and test and see how he’s feeling going back to back. threw 10 pitches yesterday. Two-1 pitch. And that one’s inside. And the count runs to three and one on Nick Perz. Tying run. Waits on deck. Looks back at the runner at second. 3-1 pitch. Swung on. Hit in the air. Center field. Rohas going back. He’s at the track. He’s looking up and that ball is gone. A three-run home run for Nick Curts. Cuts the lead to one here in the ninth. Looked like he went down and got that one. Send it out to center field. He’s got major power and and lately he’s been crushing it the last three games. I think he’s got home runs in the last two games, but this is a fast ball gif right down the middle. I mean, at a 3-1 count, it’s a high leverage count for the hitter. He’s looking for a fast ball. The reason he’s up here after being only drafted nine months ago is because he can he can take pitches and he’s really good at leverage counts getting into them. And Romano just does not look like the same guy that closed that game out yesterday. Caleb Coffam, Philly’s pitching coach, out there to have a conversation with him. The only good news, I guess, is that bases are cleared now. And runs can sometimes be a little bit of a rally killer. You hope. Tanner Banks starting to get warm in the Phillies bullpen. He’s going to have to shake it off. That’s the thing. He’s been around long enough. He’ll be fine. Shake this off. A little tougher now. Alec B, I think, is going to have to probably play a little shallower to protect against any sort of a punt. It’ll be Luis Aras, the batter, right-handed batter, and the first pitch to Aras. Hello for a ball. One and0. The kick, the one pitch, swung on, fouled back. One and one now to Aras. Boy, that ball was crushed, wasn’t it? Sure was. Well, again, center field. It’s flying to center. Both home runs in this ball game. Straight away center field. One ball and one strike to Aris and the pitch. Matt set the knees for a strike. Good pitch. Yeah, Nick Curts four for 11 coming into this game. Three home runs over his last three games. That’s his fourth one-two pitch. That’s inside. Be a little bit low for a ball. Two and two. Lead is back to one. The Phillies lead four to three. One out here in the bottom of the ninth. Romano’s pitch and it’s a called third strike at the knees. does not like it, but Bill Miller rings him up and that’s the second out. A big strike out for Jordan Romano there. Tell you in a tight game like this, a terrific pitch, little slider at the bottom of the zone. But you, it’s just amazing to me how so many hitters, especially in these late situations, let the umpire do that to him. Whether it’s a strike or not, you have two strikes, man. This pitch. Yeah, no doubt. Well, CJ Alexander will be the pinch hitter for the Athletics. Left-handed hitter. First pitch to Alexander swinging a miss. Pinch hitting for Denzel Clark. No balls in a strike to CJ Alexander. Phillies with a one-run lead. Two outs here in the bottom of the ninth. Romano comes set. He kicks the pitch. That’s down low. One and one. Mano ends at the waist, straightens back up. He’s ready to go. Glove at the belt. He kicks the pitch. Swung on and fouled at the plate. So he’s ahead in the count now to CJ Alexander. One ball and two strikes. Athletics down to their final strike. Romano ready to go. Come set. A one-two pitch way upstairs. Two and two. Got to be shocked if he doesn’t come back with another slider. He’s just I mean out of all his pitches, he’s thrown 17 sliders. Only nine fast balls. Crowd on their feet here at Center Health Park. Two balls and two strikes. The pitch swung on, hit in the right field. Base hit. Castanos gets over there and picks it up. Get it back into the infield. But it’ll be a two out single for CJ Alexander. And this one’s not done yet as the top of the order for the Athletics. Coming up, it’s Lawrence Butler. And I think that might be it. Now with with Butler coming up, I think Tanner Banks is ready to go. Yeah, that’s what that’s what he’s going to do. And then Rob Thompson has made the call to the bullpen. So Tanner Banks going to be asked to come in and finish this one off. Tough night for Jordan Romano. He’ll leave the Phillies with a one-run lead. We’ll be back right after this. As a proud partner of the Philadelphia Phillies, King Swings has created the first ever Phillies branded. If you can figure out the following baseball slang term, today’s phrase is oppo taco. Smith Corks one into right down the line it may go crazy folks go crazy it’s a home run and the Cardinals have won the game by the start of three to two the home run by the Wizards the next unforgettable call on the MLB app and MLB.com Tanner Banks checks into this game he’s going to be asked to get the final out in this one Billies with a one-run lead. Runner at first. And it’s top of the order for the Athletics. Lawrence Butler. Thanks. Coming into his 22nd game of the year. He’s 1 and0 with a 3.97 ERA. Butler two for four tonight. A single and a double. And time is called. And we’ll reset the clock. Now we’re ready to go. A runner leads off first. It’s Alexander. And the first pitch to Butler is over for a strike. Alexander at first base, I do not believe, if I’m reading it right, does not have any stolen bases. I don’t think he’s really a threat to run. Banks come set. He checks the runner and comes to the plate. Breaking ball a little bit outside for a ball. It’s one. Phillies had a one- nothing lead in the eighth. They scored three in the top of the ninth to make it four nothing, but we’re 4-3 now in the bottom of the ninth. Kick, pitch, swing, and a miss. Way out front of that one. And it’s one ball and two strikes for Lawrence Butler. And I think I’d stay with that same pitch. Little slider. Stay off the plate with the slider. Fans on their feet once again here at Sutter Health Park. Thanks. The one-two pitch swinging and miss got him. Tanner Banks puts out the fire and gets the final out here in the ninth. And the Phillies hold on to win it four to three. It got interesting there in the ninth, but the Phillies take game one of this series. Nice job by Tanner Banks. You know, it was a really good job actually by by Tanner Banks. I thought Zack Wheeler tonight was also excellent. This was a hard-fought battle against a team. You’re talking about the Athletics here who who’ve lost, I think, nine straights, what we talked about. They’re really down, but they don’t give up. I mean, credit to them for coming back late. And the Phillies as well. They’ve been hot as a pistol offensively and needed all of those late runs. No doubt about it. Nice job by the Phils offense getting those late runs and and and giving them a little bit of a cushion. Jordan Romano, little bit of a struggle for him tonight. He has been so good for the Phillies of late. In fact, the bullpen in general has been so good for the Phillies of late. A little bit of a hiccup, but a nice job by Tanner Banks to pick up his teammate. And the Phillies will take game one of the series. They improved to 5-0 on this road trip, which is pretty darn impressive. You think back to the catch by Yan Rojas in the bottom of the eighth inning. Big play and a lot of big swings at the bat there in the ninth inning as well. Trey Turner had three hits at the top of the lineup again. And again, the way that they’ve been constructing this lineup, Rob Thompson, different leadoff hitters and so forth, different arms, he’s been just terrific at the top. Well, Alec Bow had one big swing of the bat and he’s been nice enough to put the headset on down there in the dugout to join us now. Alec, first of all, congrats on the win. Uh, exciting there at the end and uh, thankfully the offense able to come through in the top half of the inning to get those extra runs. That’s always a always a positive thing. Thank you guys. The insurance is always big. Talk a little bit about that at bat against Mason Miller. I mean, a guy that throws some gas. You’re a guy that uh seems to love that and uh always right there on top of the fast ball and you were able to get on top of that one. Yeah, I mean, when you got a guy throwing that hard, it makes you make a little bit of an adjustment going into the at bat for sure. So, uh you know, I made the uh I made the uh shortened up the swing as much as I needed to. And, you know, credit to JT for getting all the way to third on the on the ball, getting by the first baseman there, and kind of made my job a little bit easier just trying to put something in play. you know, infield’s in. Pretty much just walking up there trying to touch it, not let myself, you know, get into deep into the count or anything like that. Let him break out the nasty stuff. Just, you know, get up there and get the job done early. Alec, I I got to ask you from your view down there, the catch by Rohos. Wow. Right. Come on. I mean, was it as cool out down there? I mean, how big was that catch? I mean, that’s huge. It won us a game. You know, off the bat, it didn’t sound like he hit it as hard as he did. So, but I mean I saw the ball fly through the infield and I knew he got it good and Ro looked like he had a beat on it and then he gets kind of turned. I mean he’s just unbelievable out there. I mean he’s he can go get anything and we we love him out there for sure. Uh my other question I guess I I I just am curious again old player and me. You’ve played in two parks now that are minor league parks that are kind of big league parks. What how’s this one? I mean hey man I I will say they’ve done a great job with the surface here. The the infield surface, the playing surface is nice. It’s It’s good enough. I mean, say what you want about it being a minor league park and all that. I mean, we got to win. So, you know, we’re not gonna sit here and complain about playing in minor league parks. You know, there we’ve played in two minor league parks this month and yep, we’re just going to go try to win all the games we play in them, I guess. You know, there’s nothing to really sit here and complain about. We just play the games that are put in front of us. And, you know, they they’ve done a good job of accommodating and making everything up to par and all that stuff. So, I think uh you know, yeah, we’d like to be in big league parks and you know, it’s kind of weird not being in big league stadium, but on the same token, they’ve they’ve done everything they can to make it as good as they can. I think out here, the big hits, all the greats, you got to be kidding me, and all the swagger. Relive the day’s biggest plays all in one lightning fast hour. Show. You better believe it. Quick pitch. The Friday night round table for the guys who call the games. Talk about the game, the week, or whatever else is on their minds. The throw is not in time. Here’s Greg Murphy to get it all started. Well, what a win here in Sacramento for the Philadelphia Phillies. It was close there for a while, then it wasn’t close, then it was close again, but the the Phillies, they managed to survive. They get the win tonight here four to three. Hi everyone. Welcome in to Phillies Playback Friday Night Round Table edition tonight. Greg Murphy here with you. Kevin Stalker is here as well. And then guys from over on the television side, Ben Davis is here. Scott Fransky is here. just finished up playbyplay on the TV. Welcome back to the radio, Scott. You guys have a great view from your booth. Yeah, pretty that’s that’s pretty nice ballpark in terms of everything. No, our our view I can see looking at Ben through this window the whole game. Your view has our view kind of kind of lousy. My view terrible. Hey Ben, do me a favor. Welcome. At least you had a window in between you Mesa Circular Sacramento. Ah, very well done. All right, second straight week with Ben Davis on the Friday Night Round. I’m honored. Good to have you here. Uh, wow. Uh, got a little interesting there at the end, but uh, you know, always fun to get the win and the Phils do that tonight. Five straight here on the road trip. And, uh, what were your thoughts of Jordan Romano? I mean, you know, obviously one of the storylines, he did not look like the same guy that he’s looked like over the last couple of times out, right? I don’t know if there was a mound issue. His balance looked way off and obviously there was no finish on any of his pitches. So few times he’s fallen over. Yeah, it looks like he was on roller skates out there. Interesting. We are in California. I mean, who knows what’s going on out here. Did you guys know Luis Severino, I think it was, who threw yesterday. Okay. I don’t know if you read. So, he had been having so many problems with the bullpen mound and these two mounds like they’re so different. He’s been throwing his bullpens right here on the field. Oh, interesting. Just so he can get used to the mound. So Ben, to your point, it’s very possible that he just couldn’t get it. Well, this field has had an unbelievable amount of play on it and obviously with the AAA team here and the when the team’s on the road um and then when the A’s are here, you know, playing just about every day. Yeah, Phillies actually catch a break getting here early in the year, I think. I mean, before the cuz I think I mean, they have done a great job. beautiful now, but I just wonder, you know, you get into late July and August, I wonder what it’ll be like, how it’s going to hold up. One of the guys in our booth said that they mid year, they’re going to tear the whole field apart and then replant and Yeah. and I guess bring sod in or whatever. So, Oh, that’s interesting. Yeah, that’s the six day break they have during the All-Star break. I think they’re going to re field. Yeah. R.J. saying maybe they might even do that twice uh over the course of the of the season. So, yeah. Greg, you should give them your address. Maybe they can just sod your You know, wouldn’t that be nice? Oh yeah. Yeah. New sod on my lawn would be You need new sod? Well, no. Well, lawn’s nice. No, the lawn looks good. I seem to remember you recently uh kind of crowing about the state of your lawn. Yeah. Yeah. You were pretty good. Yeah. Okay. It should with the amount of rain we’re getting back home. Absolutely. Yeah. Crazy. And I got sprinkles, too. So, yeah, you do. Always getting always getting watered when we need it. Uh yeah, it was it certainly is good. You played here. Huh? What What do you remember about about playing here? I mean, I remember it being a lot hotter and not being able to hit in between my at bats. Stunk. Yeah. I I I just That could be very frustrating. Did you guys notice I’m sure you did and you I’m sure you talked about it on television, but did you see Kyle kind of just pacing up and back? He looked like a caged lion. He had nothing to do in between his attacks. He didn’t know what to do. And you talk about a guy that’s very re routine oriented and not being able to get your swings or your flips in between that had to stink. He did go out to center field at one time. So yeah. Yeah. It it’s it’s just it’s a strange thing. I mean, you know, ball players I don’t need to tell you two and obviously used to ball players like their routines and when you get taken out of their routine um it it’s a change for sure. It was a funny scene watching those guys walk out to center field try and get some swings. I didn’t see them come back. You were talking. I didn’t either. Yeah, we we were actually talking about it. We saw the when the four of them all went out. Keep Marsh. Uh but I I wasn’t usually looking in between innings to see um cuz Ben brought it up at one point. He goes, “Is did Wheeler walk out? Like is he still in the dugout?” And I said, “You didn’t see him running poles.” I mean, the game ended. We said it’s very much like spring training. The only thing we were missing are the guys with their equipment back, right? They would bring the full bag to the dugout in in spring training, but here they walk out. And we were missing Chris Wheeler, too. Spring training. Yeah, no doubt. He would have been too. Well, look, it was a fun game. The Phillies improved to 5 and0 on the road trip. That’s fun as well. Uh but uh it’s the Friday night round table, so I wanted to have a little bit of fun in a different way. And so uh Scott, you don’t know this, but we’ve kind of gotten together and we’re going to gang up on you tonight. We’re going to play a little bit of a game. Okay. Reminisence of the the newlywave game. You remember that uh game show? Okay. Well, you’ve been kind of bouncing around with a lot of different partners of late. I mean, radio partners, television partners, that’s what I mean. Uh let’s be clear. Uh but you know, yesterday working with Kevin Stalker, few days before that working with Larry Anderson, tonight working with Ben Davis. You’re always stuck with me at some level. Uh so we thought we’d play a little game. How well do you know your partner? Do you think you know your point? I thought you were gonna ask me to rank them. By the way, that might be fun, too. By the way, where are we going to dinner? Different different categories, of course, whatever. Absolutely. Absolutely. So, you think uh you think you know your guys well? I mean, you’ve been working with Larry for what, 20 years or close to it. And uh you’ve known these guys for a long time. So, you think you know them pretty well? I guess. Are you ready to play the game? Are you nervous? So, I’m going to give you a scenario. Are you a little nervous? I like that. I like that. I’m going to give you a scenario and you’re going to tell me which one of your partners is the the person just of these three guys stock and bet. That’s correct. Yeah. I did not include anybody else. All right. I can’t say Eric Kratz or anything like that. No, that uh that would not work. All right. You ready to go? Sure. Okay. All right. Uh this one might be an easy one. So, I’m going to start here. This partner of yours drinks a shot of olive oil every day. A shot of olive oil every day. Doc, is it Ben or is it Larry? I’m gonna say it’s Larry. Larry drinks a shot of olive oil every day. You did not know that. Bang. But you guessed it. You guessed that right. Okay. All right. How about this one? Now, does he Now tell me, does he have an actual just straight olive oil? Does he put it in like his bullet uh mix? We could call him. Okay, let’s call him. He’s probably awake, right? I don’t know about that. We could call him right now. All right, how about this one? Um, this person when he was a kid jumped out of the car at Yellowstone National Park in order to get a photograph with a buffalo, just nestled right up to the buffalo. Mom and dad snapped the picture. Still has that picture. Which one of the uh of your partners did that in Yellowstone Park? Um, Stock. Stock. Did you do that? I’m not that dumb. No way. But he is Was that you? That was me. That was Ben Davis. I got a picture taken with a my dad. Get a little closer. All I did there was just go with proximity. You’re just the closest one to yell at the donut as a kid. Good point. All right. How about this one? Uh, this particular partner of yours in the fourth grade went through a basketball layup line in his tighty whies because he did not realize he didn’t have shorts on when he took off his warm-up pants. and he actually went through the layup line in his tidy wedies. Who was that? Um, I mean, it really does sound like something Larry would do, but um, in the fourth grade. Fourth grade is like a nine-year-old. Yeah. Yeah. I had to say it was Ben. Ben Davis. Did you do that, Ben? I sure did. Can you explain that a little bit to Well, it was a father-son basketball game and you know how you get there with your sweatpants on and you you take your sweatpants off and well that’s what I did and I forgot that I had not put shorts on there. My aunt said a tiny wedding. So I looked out and I went, “Oh.” And I went and I immediately went panic mode and my dad being as gullible as I am, he said, “Hey, don’t worry. Nobody noticed.” I believe them except for the buffalo by the car. But meanwhile, your your pal you had a lifelong friend that at the game and she’s been giving you a hard time for the rest of your life. Still tells me about it to this day. Yeah. I love that. All right. How about this one? Oh my god. This partner of yours took French lessons after school every day in first grade. Prov was that you? I did not do that. Believe it or not, that’s your pal, Larry. Took French lessons after class in first grade. I don’t know that he speaks a word of French, but that’s what he told me. So, he Wow. Yeah. All right. How about this one? Who knew? He was so Well, this partner of yours, what did you you did you take classes or try to learn something Italian or did you No. Did you ever try to learn? I never tried to learn another language. Well, Spanish, but I in school I took Spanish. Like three years of Spanish. I know that Ben at one time was going to take Latin and his father advised him that not many pitchers speak Latin. No, it was French. They said French or Spanish? He goes, “You know any French-speaking pitchers?” Real Cormier. That was it. That was it. Just real. All right. How about this one? Uh, this particular partner, your partners aren’t very bright. That that’s that’s what I’m learning here. This one, this guy accidentally swallowed an open safety pin. It lodged in his esophagus and he had to have it removed at the hospital. Minor surgery. I don’t know. How about Kevin Stalker? Dev, did you do that? Explain explain how that happened. A safety pin. You said a safety pin. Yeah. So, I was I can’t remember 8 10 nine whatever. I was with my big brother who’s waiting for us downstairs. We were air jamming the music and we’re like and I have a safety pin in my mouth and and we’re air jamming and I was on, you know, jump up and down on the bed and I stopped because I felt it go down and so I start I start grabbing him like, “Hey, hey, hey.” And I’m pointing to my throat. So he being my big brother gets behind me and starts just trying to give me the behind like he has no idea what he’s doing. I’m just gez with an open safety. Yeah. So I said, “No, I can breathe.” So, long story short, they take me to the hospital and the doctors uh take an X-ray and put it up on the X-ray machine and literally it’s a perfect looking safety pin stuck in my throat. Crazy. Right in my esophagus. Did Were you able to I mean, did you get that picture? Probably not. No, man. That would have been awesome. This was in like if you do this now, you’re going to get that digital going to be all over. It’s going to be all over. So, they had to go down and and uh I had to knock me out. They went down and they were able to cap it with something and pull it out. That just that sounds awful. I’m glad you’re okay. You said you’re how old? Anywhere from seven to 10. I mean, I was young. Yeah. Yeah. There you go. All right. A couple more. Couple more. You’re not doing all that well, but there’s still time, right? How many have you gotten right? Wait a minute. You’re asking me random silly questions. You got a wonder shot. Ready? This part I didn’t know any of them when they were eight. By the way, this partner of yours accidentally left his bicycle when he was 12 at his elementary school over the weekend. It was locked up. So when he went back to get his bicycle combination, no. He realized that the black banana seat on the bicycle had been set on fire and burned to a crisp over the weekend. Who was that? Um, I’m going to say that was Ben. Ben, was that you? I don’t know. That was me. My new banana seat. There’s really no story there other than exactly that. Fried down to a So did you ever find So let me ask you something. How is that like how would I have this is like a total shot in the dark. This is like rando stories. The man owned a bike. I bet all three great stories. Yeah, they are great stories. All three of them owned bicycles and uh you just are the only one that had a seat burn. I mean you have to know which personality would leave their bike, you know, over the weekend. Any of you I think any of the three of you would. That’s exactly true. All right, two more. Ready? Here we go. Uh this particular person was the passenger in a vehicle at the age of 14. The driver was 15. They were driving to school and neither of them had a driver’s license. They took dad’s car and went off to school. Who was that? Uh well, it could be any of you guys because it’s with with one of your siblings, I’m sure. Um this got to be Larry. I’m gonna say it’s Larry, but it’s probably Ben. It’s not Larry. It was me. It was you. It is definitely Ben. Yeah. Yeah. Mom and dad had to go to school and they had bought a car for my brother and we couldn’t Our normal ride couldn’t make it. So, my dad said, “It’s good. Take the car and drive to Melbourne.” I love driving Melvin with no license. My brother was 15. He wasn’t even 16 yet. Well, the reason I said, “Larry, do you do you have Are you sure that he didn’t do that?” Oh, I’m not sure that he did. Because I’m pretty sure they would just in his day they would just take the keys without a license. I don’t think that was I love that. All right. Definitely not out of the question. I got one more for you. Yeah. All right. How well does Scott Fransky know his radio partners, TV partners? Not well, we’re learning, but this is the final one. Ready? While running for middle school um student council president, this particular partner of yours did a rap song in front of the entire school and he crushed it apparently. Stock was that you? Can you give us a little bit of that right now? Just say I got to be a rocker. Vote for stock. That was what rap song was it? Uh I made it up. Oh, you made a Yeah, I made my own, but all my posters had uh Eddie Van Hal. I was a big Van Halen fan and this was in ninth grade. Yeah. Did you win? I did. You were you were the student council president? I was. Yeah. Going it was eighth grade going in ninth. So, yeah, I was a student body president. Nice. Be a rocker. Vote for stalker. There you go. Yeah, that one I could see with your love of karaoke today. You know, it’s it’s it’s a good call. It’s funny because I asked Rob Brooks, who is here with us, our manager of broadcasting. I asked him a couple of these ahead of time and he got them all wrong, too, except for the rat one. Yeah, everybody was like, “Yeah, that’s Doctor. That’s probably Stark.” I’ll see if I can write one for you guys tomorrow. Do you really enjoy karaoke that much? Oh, he’s uh I loves I endure it. Yeah. Brooke is all about karaoke. So, really? Yeah. Once it starts though and you give me a microphone, it’s over. I mean, it’s like give you a microphone every night, by the way. Sing away if I sing away. Is she a good singer? She’s a great singer. Really? Yeah, she’s great. Yeah, she’s great. Loves it. Absolutely loves it. Yep. In fact, so much so that we we used to like we’d sing in our basement had a karaoke machine and we’d sing and I’m like, “I’m out. I’m going to bed.” She’s like, “All right.” She’d be down there for another 45 minutes by herself jamming. Jamming. Loved it. She’s You still have a karaoke? Yeah, we do. Hasn’t been used. So, you have it here in New Town Square. Yeah. Do you really? Yeah. Look at I think he’s You’re interested. No, no, no. I I I mean, I’ve done karaoke. I’m just I’m a horrendous singer. Like, I’m terrible. Yeah. I can’t carry a tune with a bucket. I’m telling you, it’s bad. Well, that’s what makes it fun. I don’t carry a tune or embarrassing. It’s not It’s you. Yeah. When you’re around other people. All right. We’ll do it. We’ll do it. Well, that was fun. Late night round table. Absolutely. I guess I get I need to get to know you guys better. Yes. You got two from me. Yeah. I I was wrong on the language though. For some reason, I thought you had studied a language or you tried to learn a language to go on a trip or something. I need to know if Larry speaks any French whatsoever. Uh find that out. He speaks the kind when you say, “Pardon my French.” That’s the kind. Yeah, he knows that one. He knows that one. Chardonnay. Yeah, Peter. Yeah, he definitely knows those words for sure. All right, fellas. We’ll wrap it up. See you tomorrow. Thank you, Kevin Stalker. Thank you, Scott Fransky. Thank you, Ben Davis. We’ll take a quick break. We’ve got a little bit more to do here on Phillies Playback. So stay with us right here on the Phillies Radio Network. Pennsylvaniaians are creating their own soundtrack.
