Marlins vs. Angels Game Highlights (5/23/25) | MLB Highlights

The Angels return home as the hottest team in baseball after an 8-2 road trip, including seven wins in a row. It’s a heat check tonight versus the Miami Marlins. On the mound for the Halos 0 and4 record, 350 RA is left-hander Kikuchi. Still in search of his first win with the Angels. This is his 11th start of the year. here. Two two a swing and a miss. Our forcing fast ball at 95. One down. That was a good fast ball there because he throwing all those sliders and fast balls upstairs and he throws one fast ball lower part just a little bit off the plate. Perfect spot. 95 mph fast ball down. Punch out. A two out base runner and Connor Norby who has a fivegame hitting streak. He will be the next batter. And a broken back rounder softly hit near second. Stopped there by Renifo. He will throw out Norby and that will end the inning. Kikuchi sets down three of the fourth. Right-hander Sandy Alcanter is looking to put it all together tonight. The 29year-old from Azoua in the Dominican Republic and the 2022 National League Sai Young Award winner. Started nine games so far this year. He’s 2-6 with an RA at 7.99. Strike three called the 3-2 for Seamer. Good start for Sandy. The upper reaches of the strike zone at 98. It catches a corner is a strike and Neto did not believe so. There are two men gone in a strike out and a ground out, but it has taken Sandy 14 pitches. 3-1. A ground ball over to second base. So got it and is tossed to first in time to retire the side. One, two, three frame for Sandy. We’re through an inning, no score. Sters constantly gets his a swing off. That’s one of the reasons why he’s been on such a terror for the last 20 days. Why? Fifth in the league in hitting. And there’s another base hit against a lefthander against anybody for Kyle Sters. He starts off with a single. That’s the first hit of the ball game for either team. First out in the inning. Derek Hill will be the next batter. That’s swinging a miss and a strike out. Second K of the night for Kuchi. Back door slider and he had sters going back to the bag. So no chance to go on that one. He’s really had that back four slider working really well tonight. Juus Sanchez ends the batter with two down and that is a called third strike. Fast ball 96 got him looking. Inning ends with back-to-back strikeouts and Kikuchi has struck out three of the first eight. Taylor Ward might be the hottest hitter on the planet right now. He’s had five home runs in the last eight games. He’s had an extra base hit in eight games in a row. That’s one shy of the club record held by Darren Urstad. Taylor would tie and he drives one to right field. Is this going to do it? Back to the wall and it’s gone. That’s nine straight games with an extra base hit tying a franchise mark for Taylor Ward. I love the fact that that ball is to right center field too. He’s hit a couple of center field. He’s staying on the baseball very very well. That’s a fast ball. He hit out. 15th homer for Wardo and it’s one- nothing Angels. That’s a first down. And here’s Matthew Lugo. Two pitch is a called third strike. Four seamer at 98 on the outer half and there are two men gone. Good fast ball. 98 right on that outside part of the plate. Lugo could not pull the trigger. Now Contra has had a strikeout in each of the first three innings. Here’s Neto. He went down looking his first time up. Neto takes a call. Third strike. Sinker at 98. Dotted on the lower outside edge. And Sandy Alcantra has worked three innings. A one-run ball. Only blemish against him. The solo home run from Taylor Ward. Now with Forez at first, it’s Derek Hill who struck out swinging on a Kikuchi slider his first time up. Right up the middle off the block. Kikuchi drops his glove, picks it up, throws across in time to get him. Oh, that was close. I think they’re checking him right there though. Shaw’s running off like he got him. He knows it. He’s You can check. He’s taking the baseball. He’s in the dugout. But what a play. Not so sure they got him there. Going to look like Hill might have gotten there just in front. So, it will be an infield single with that speed. He’s one of the fastest Marlins, if not the fastest, getting down to first base. He used it there to his advantage. And now it’s first and second, a chance for Jesus Sanchez. And here’s the pitch. This is hit on a hop right to first. Fielded there by Shawnwell. Flips to Kikuchi. Gets to the bag in time. The inning is over on the 3-1 ground out. Miami leaves a pair. They’ve already stranded five in this ball game. Backto back singles as the Angels are looking to add on. And here comes Taylor Ward. So runners at the corners for the right guy at the plate. It’s lifted to right field. That’s going to be deep enough to drive in Shawwell. Really surprised he went with a fast ball there. He had him set up. Taylor Ward got the pitch he needed. Got the job done now. Two RBI’s 36 on the season. Good baseball right there. More Solair is up. Rod Washington telling us before the game, Rod, not gotten going yet. There’s a ground ball grabbed there by Norby. Will he make the play? Yes, he will. Conor Norby with a diving effort to get the out. Not only the dive, but the arm strength. That’ll bring up Logan Oppoy. He’s homered in three straight games. Has four homers in that span. Four straight games with multi-hit games. He rips that one and that’s going over the head of the left fielder Sters. That’s going to drive in a run. Dig it for second. Head first. He’s in there and the Angels take a three nothing lead as Margata scores. off his second double, 30th RBI. Kind of shocked where Stard is playing him. Did he not realize he’s got four home runs in the last three games? He was playing extremely shallow. Didn’t get the scouting report apparently. Got a curveball there and he jumped on it. So backto back base hits against Kikuchi here in the fifth. And that might do it. Ron Washington is coming out. Maybe seven pitches. Oh, he’s going to give him a shot. Season high pitch count for Kikuchi. 104. He’s done that twice. McFortez presenting the tying run coming to the plate. Nobody out in the sixth. Second time the Marlins have had a runner at scoring position. There’s a ground ball. Neto has it. The flip to second on the first. And it is a double play. Doesn’t get a lot of them, but he got a big one there. We’ve seen this so often over this stretch where two guys on in the middle part of the game and a double play. And Ron Washington shows a little faith in his veteran starter. That’ll be it. Ron Washington gave Kikuchi every opportunity to get through six scoreless innings. He will not make it. 110 pitches later, Ron Washington will make a call to the bullpen and won’t get a right-hander into the contest. Three nothing Angels. Base is loaded. Angels going to the veteran Hunter Strickland. His 11th season, third stint with the Angels and he just called up. He’s picked up his first win of the season. And the Marlins going to go to a pinch hitter as Liam Hicks is coming off the bench. He’s going to hit for the nine hitter Javier Senoha. Softly hit. Zack Neto comes in on the run. The throw down. Oh, what a play. The superstar short stop. Zack Neto saves the day. Boy, that ball was not hit hard at all. Neto was playing around second. He had a charge in, fielded the ball in the grass behind the mound and was just able to get the throw there. They’ll leave them loaded. The bases are loaded. Nobody out here. Pitch number 91 for Alcantra. And now Daniel Bosquez, the pitching coach, is going to come out and chat with Sandy. Bases loaded and Jorge Soler do up. That looked like it might have been catches interference. It is in fact catchers interference. Shawwell scores. Gives Solair an RBI. And there’s the magic number four. Four nothing Angels over the Marlins. You see it right there. Knocks the glove right off. was a little bit late on that swing just trying to punch that fast ball the other way. And now they can back up halfway and get a more traditional double play and get out of the inning. Pitches in the bank here for all contra got him. That’s an RBI. Another run comes in. It makes it five to nothing. So one run comes in on catcher interference. Another run comes in on a hit batter. It’s good RBI for Darno. Veteran move. Yeah, take one for the team. Angels have added two here and knocked Sandy out of the ball game. with a five nothing lead. All right, Lake Pocker is the new pitcher for the Marlins. Bases remain loaded. Renifo is at the plate. Interesting. And he miss it. Oh, and I hit out to right field. Hit pretty well. Going back on it is the right fielder. Sanchez on the track and he catches it deep enough to score Solair. And an add-on run for the Angels. Picked up an RBI there for Heo. It’s 6 nothing. And here is Wagaman who’s one for three. Still some time to go here. try to get some offensive momentum at the very least. It’s a drive to left field and deep. Back is Ward. Looks up. It’s gone. Welcome back home, Eric Wagaman. His dad Jim is here. His mom Julie, he played for the Angels. He grew up rooting for this team and he gets the Marlins on the board with family and friends on hand. Good for Conor Norby. A two-h hit game. And here’s Kyle Sters now getting a look at a right-hander for the first time. And a shot. There’s another base hit for Sters. That’s going to get down the line and into the wall. Rounding third is Norby. He gets the green light from Blake Lai. He scores a double for Sters. His 31st RBI and it’s 62 now. So Augustine to second. Paulie the lead man from second to third. That takes the double play out of order with one away. Single from Wagaman could cut the deficit in half. It’s six-2. Play drive. Base hit. One run will score. Rounding third. Coming in is Ramirez. It will be cut off. And both Paulie and Ramirez score. Wagamin has three RBI. And now it’s 64 in the tying run coming up. Angels with a 6-4 lead. Jorge will lead it off for the Angels. Oh, that is hammered center field going back. It’s gone. Solar power and it’s 74 Halos. Just like that, the response we talk about again. Solair. That ball was matched. Sters at third. Sanchez now at second. Tying run at the plate. Trying to push the winning streak to eight. Popped up. Zack Meadow called for it. He’s under it. He’s gone. That’s the ball game. Eight wins in a row. And the Angels climb to get back to the 500 mark. Is successful here tonight.

  4. ワガマン、やっぱり活躍してるじゃないか。去年、彼が出てきたときに「良い選手が出てきたなあ」と思ってたんだよ。なのに、なんでエンゼルスは彼を自由契約にしたんだ?

  5. The Angels are so fun to watch, what a great offense they have!

I still think their pitching is too weak to be a real threat this season but they are a cool bunch!

  6. Lifelong Angels fan. This team has some grit. I hope they make a trade at the deadline for another starting pitcher and add to the rotation
