🔴LIVE🔴 Arizona Diamondbacks vs Pittsburgh Pirates | MLB 2025 Full Game Highlights | May 28 | EN VIVO

So just about set now on the hill here today. Brandon Faulk and Singi. He likes pitching at home. Well, truly for him, there is no place like home. He’s been so dominant here. And as a teammate, you expect him when pitching at home this year to go out and dominate just as he has. the fans expected and I think everyone around here knows that he’s a good pitcher. Even though we don’t see the same splits on the road, we’re going to start to see that translate as well. O’Neal Cruz leading things off and takes a strike. [Applause] That’s a little high. And now it’s even one and one. And that’s downstairs and outside. There’s the strike. Swings through that one. It’s a strike [Applause] out. Here’s McCutchen. And a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. This one popped up right side. Naylor gets under it and he makes the catch. Two down. Here’s a Pirates lineup now. Not the highest team batting average for this squad. They’re down towards the bottom of the league in total hits. And Singi, because of that, they don’t score a ton. Yeah. and Boo, I’m looking for a little better performance out of them today. I mean, if they’re going to be dangerous, if they’re going to be able to create scoring opportunities, they’re going to have to start making some individual adjustments. A lot of players in this lineup probably aren’t happy with how they’ve hit the ball so far. So, today’s a chance to get something going. Spencer Horowitz in the box with two gone and takes a look at a called strike. There’s a swing and a drive. And this one looks like trouble around first and hustling for second. And he starts his afternoon off right with a double. Everything came together for him. Fast ball pretty much middle middle. And that’s what you fall asleep dreaming about as a hitter. So no surprise he put a great swing on it. So runner at second, two down. Bart digs in now. All right, Brandon. Slashed foul down the right side. Then a hook off into the seats. Well, they’re looking to get on the board first here after that clutch two out double made this inning interesting. [Laughter] Punch him out. Gets a piece and stays alive. gets a piece and it stays 0 and two. Runner at second. Two down. fights that one away and the count remains 0 and2 and ball one. I don’t like to say he wasted a pitch. I think that was a purpose pitch. Change the eye level. Have him look up. Now go back exactly where you want to go. Ninth pitch of the at bat do next. In an era with a lot of swing and miss and strikeouts, you got to love an at bat like this. No one giving in on the inside corner for strike three. Well, this guy competes hard. We see the emotion there. I love it. Great job of getting out of the jam. Back here in the desert and on the mound now, Bailey Falter and Singi. It’s unique these days, but he’s more of a pitch to contact type of guy. Yeah, Boo. He doesn’t rely too heavily on the strike out. He knows he needs to miss barrels, get some soft contact, let the defense do work behind him. And I think a guy like that that can keep a good tempo, don’t give hitters time to adjust or think they can move through a ball game and you look up, they’re in line for a quality start. We’ll see what he’s got in this one. Corbin Carroll leading things off and takes a strike. Here’s a fun fact on Corbin, and I I don’t know if everyone remembers their first jersey, but Carol certainly does. He used to rock an Ichiro Suzuki growing up. That one the other way and foul ball. 0 and two now. Fast ball. Almost got him there. Straighten him up a little bit. Brown ball to the right side. gets to it with a slide, the throw. Pretty nice play there. Time to take a look at the Diamondbacks lineup. A guy who’s been huge for them over the last month plus, Pav Smith. And Boo, he’s the table setter for this offense. Team leader and on base percentage. I mean, that just gives your teammates plenty of chances to cash in and bring them around to score. Man, I used to love when I had a guy out in second base or third base. Easy to get those RBI’s. Game after game, you know, a guy like this, what he’s going to provide and the opportunities that other guys are going to get in the lineup. Catel Marte in now. Takes ball one off the plate. One out. Base is empty. Next offering upstairs. [Music] Swinging a highf fly ball out there towards left field. Coming on his fam to make the play. Two up, two down. Betting third. Left fielder. Two out. Space is empty. Here’s Lordis Guriel Jr. to third. Triolo whips it across. That’s the third out. Inning over and the Diamondbacks down in order. Scoreless after one. Second inning set to go. Now it’s the right fielder Alexander Canario. Thought back to work. And that one’s a little bit low. And that’s ball one. fast for a strike. Larry Bullard making the calls behind the plate for us in this one. Pretty good strike zone. Well reviewed by those we talked to around the league. Yeah, he’s an umpire. He doesn’t get a lot of looks from players. Maybe here and there once in a while, but he’s appreciated back there. Headed down the line. And that’s a foul ball. Singi, what kind of strike zone is most frustrating for hitters? I’d say off the plate, away, and down. And why? Those are the toughest locations to hit the baseball. As the game has moved along, we see more and more information supplied by teams about the umpires. I’ve been in clubouses where they have pictures. This one swung on and hit well way back there. out of here. He circles the bases and they jump ahead in the second. It’s one- nothing. His plan was to hit the ball hard and he was going to figure out the rest later. You can’t argue with those results. The great pitchers are able to tease the outside part of the zone with the breaking ball. That means that it looks like it’s going to be a strike but finishes off the plate. Well, that one finished on the outer half, but caught just too much of the plate and hit for a home run. Here’s Adam Frasier. Swing and a miss. 0 and one. That was exciting to see a laid-off home run in an inning. Kind of gets the offense fired up and you start to expect a big inning. Nobody on, nobody out with a run in here in the top of the second. And that one in the air center field. Thomas sizing it up and makes the grab and there’s one down. Here is Isaiah Ker Falefa. And that one is in for a strike at 95 and one late with the swing there. [Music] One down. Base is empty. That one outside. Now one and two. Swing it. A ball popped in the air. Out to shallow center. No trouble here. Puts it away for the out. And there are two outs. Two down. Base is empty. Tommy Fan the next to hit. delivers a pitch in for a strike at 95. The 1-1 is fouled off. Two down on and the sweeper misses for a ball. Really close pitch down around the knees there and you could see him asking where it missed. Probably doesn’t agree, but it appears he’s ready to move on to the next pitch. [Music] Knocks that one away and we’ll do it again. Two outs. That’s the ball. Reo, two strike. That’s ball four. Tried another fast ball, but missed the spot. One of the things about that two-out walk. The base runner over at first base is going to have a very aggressive secondary lead. So, a ball down the line or into the gap will produce a two out RBI. And those are the best. That is if you are the offensive side of it. Jared Triolo stands in now and watches strike one. Fan leads off first with two down to the inning. On the ground right side to first and the inning is over. But they’re off to a good start as they pick up a run on this solo shot. It’s now one- nothing. Back after this on the show. Back here at Chase Field. Bottom of the second. And now it’s Josh Naylor. Josh Naylor. Check swing called strike in the air. left field down the line and that will fall. So runner aboard to start the inning. I don’t know how he was able to shoot that pitch the other way and still put something on it. That pitch was inside and he let it get really deep. So pretty incredible hands to fight it off and still get good wood on it. Heyo Suarez up to hit now. Good power. Not great in the OBP department. And a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. Tying run is at first. Bottom half of inning number two. There’s the swing in a bit. No ball. Too straight. Swings through it and that’s a strike out. Perfectly executed 126 curve ball right there. And with that kind of break, if you can drop it in below the zone like that, it’s going to look like a strike the entire way coming in and then just disappear. So hard to get under the ball unless you’re really gearing up for it and you might need a pitching wedge. Pav Smith stands in now for the Diamondbacks. Pitch misses and it’s one and0. [Music] Fast for a strike. Man at first. One away. on the ground to second. Might be two. Good feed. That’s one. And that’s two. One hit in the inning, but nothing more than that. We played two full. It’s the Pirates one. And the Diamondbacks nothing. [Music] New inning getting started and now the center fielder O’Neal Cruz. Cruz goes 6′ 7 in hitting lead off in today’s game and he was born in the Dominican Republic. On the corner for a [Music] strike and he grounds one to the right side. Marte throws to first in time. Leadoff man retired here in the third. Now designated hitter Andrew Here’s Cutch to the dish. 0 for one with a fly out. Delivers a pitch in for a strike at 95. Ball one there. One ball, one strike. Not even close there. And that’s ball two. Next offering is fouled back. One down. Base is empty. Spoils that one and it remains two and two. Well, pretty clear to me he was trying to go deep right there. But you’ve got to get a pitch that you can handle on the ground. And that’s just fouled. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. That’s off the inside corner and a full countdown. He should get a pretty good pitch to hit here with the three-hole hitter coming up if he’s walked. ripped on the ground to second, tossed to Naylor. First two batters retired here in the top of the third. Fastball grew right down the middle. Usually a lot of damage done with that pitch. A hard grounder, but he wanted to get that ball in the air. Maybe drive it into the gap. Spencer Horowitz now at the plate. Doubled in his first AB. That’s in there. That’s strike one. Probably the best one we have seen. Throwing it where he wanted to have a nice tight spin to it and a teaser just off the edge of the plate. Guriel handles the chance. And we’re back. Here’s the catcher, Gabrielle Moreno. Gabrielle Moreno. Swinging a foul straight back. Highfly ball out into left center field. Coming on is Fam to make the play. And there’s one down. Alec Thomas now. Let’s get it going. Just missed. down the line and that drops foul instead of letting the hitter get his arms extended. Tied him up a little bit. Slightly up, slightly in a foul ball. Next one misses. Two and two. The only adjustment he needs to make is his target. If you aim at the outside corner, that slider’s going to end up way off the plate. Perhaps look a little more down the middle and get it right where you want it. And a swing and a miss. That’s the second out. Came inside with that two strike fast ball nicely and just bunched him up on the inside part of the plate. Couldn’t get around on it and catch it out front. Many times if you do, it’s a foul ball. And you know, a lot of pitchers, they really don’t like working inside with two strikes because they do not want to hit that batter. And when they’ve got him up against the ropes, got to figure out a way to put them away. Did a nice job right there. Base hit center field and that turns the lineup over. Hitting is really easy for some guys. One thing that I can see already, his bat stays in the zone on plane for an extended period of time. And guys like that, they have a high contact rate and they have more barrels because of that bat being on plane. And even when you don’t get it great, it’s still hit hard enough to dunk something in like that in front of the center fielder. Foul ball there off of first with two away. And that’s outside and the count even one and [Music] one. Fouls one off out of play. Back to our left. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. And now two and two. just misses the mark outside the zone. Great RBI spot here. Just got to stay focused on the pitch. The runner will be in motion, so something in the gap should definitely score it. swing and a miss. Struck him out and he’s registered three Ks in this one. So, no runs here on a base hit. No errors and one left. On to inning number four. It’s the Pirates one and the Diamondbacks nothing. And welcome back to the ballpark as we go to the top of the fourth. There’s Joey Bart now. First offering misses badly for ball one. You know, these Pirates showing great discipline at the plate and patience definitely seems to be the name of their game in this one. He’s only given up one run, but the starter pitch count is starting to get up there and that might be the best news yet for this offense. That one hooked foul. You know, sometimes all it takes is getting to the next arm before an offense does any damage and that might be the case today. Comes up empty as he chases that one in the dirt on first in time to get him one away and the strike out. He’s really good hitting the baseball the other way. So, credit the pitcher for having him out in front of that pitch. Clearly, he had him fooled. Now, it’s Alexander Canario. He’s already homered here in this one. Misses inside. And that’s ball one. Base is empty. One away. Top half of inning number four. And that’s way high. And the count is 2 and 0. And that one is in for a strike. He’s been able to go inside as well as outside, effectively working both sides of the plate in this at bat. One down, base is empty. In the air, foul off first. Naylor makes the grab and there’s two down. Now batting second base. Two out. Space is empty. Up next for the Pirates, Adam Frasier fly to center his first time. Fouled off left side. This ball’s chopped on the ground and that chance handled. Throws to first. That’s a third out. Down in order go the Pirates, but they hold a one- nothing lead. Back here in the desert, John Shami and Chris Singleton with you. And leading off the bottom of the fourth, Catel Marte. All right. Go back. In for a strike and it’s 0 and one. Well, he’s been incredibly efficient in this one. First pitch strike percentage over 70%. That’s well above league average and that’s what’s allowed him to pitch well up until this point. [Music] cuts and misses. It’s a strike out. Made quick work of him right there, Siggy. I know that’s the kind of at bat maybe leaves a lot of fans wondering what was he doing up there, right? Yeah, and I get that. I mean, you take two straight strikes, then chase one way out of the zone. It’s It’s just not a good at bat. It’ll leave you shaking your head as a hitter, if not worse. But there’s always going to be those trips to the plate where you’re just lost up there and that was one of them for sure. And it’s Lordis Goreel Jr. And there’s a strike of the outside corner. It’s 0 and one. Griel gets a piece. The Diamondbacks down by a run. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth and that one missing inside. A sharp slider. Definitely a swing and miss slider down and in. He finished that really well. Just couldn’t get him to offer at it. In the air out towards right center. Cruz snags it and there’s two away. Now that is first base. Here’s Josh Naylor. One for one with a single so far. And that one fouled off. Both one. And Naylor swings through that one. Big time gem right there. I hate it as a hitter, but standing in center field, you can’t help but chuckle a little bit. Just missed. Really nice slider right there. Sweeping across the dish, but just couldn’t hang the edge. Two outs. Base is empty. Good job to fight that one off. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. Diamondbacks down quickly. They trail here one- nothing. Back here at Chase Field and the batter will be the shortstop. Isaiah Ker Falefa Thought back to work. Pitch misses. One and0. That one lifted to left. Guriel has it sized up. makes the catch. Going up, one down. Tommy, here’s Tommy Fam. Walked his first time. Delivers a pitch in for a strike at 95. Looked pretty good as far as being in the strike zone, but I’m sure as a hitter, not too good with where it was located. Very top of the strike zone. Middle away. One down. Base is empty. One ball. Two strike. That to right. Smith makes the play and there’s two away. Now batting third base Jared Triolo. Now the third baseman Jared Triolo grounded out his first time off. Pop foul out of play off to the right. Two down, nobody on. And we’re in the top of the fifth. [Music] There’s the strike. [Laughter] Fouled off and they’ll do it again. Two down on. That’s a ball. Tried to attack with a sweeper. [Music] gets a piece there. We’ll do it again. Here’s a one, two. Just misses with that one. Felt clearly not too happy with the call there. Thought he caught the top of the zone and you could pretty much read his lips saying that’s not up. Woo! Diamond back. Fly drive. Marte tosses to first and that is the third out of the inning. Bucks go down quietly, but they’re on top one- nothing. And we’re back. Auheno Suarez up to the plate now. Suarez. That’s a little bit low. [Music] Swinging a bouncer towards third. Triolo slings it across and the lead offense set down in their half of the fifth. Now that is right fielder. Next up for the Diamondbacks, Pave Smith. He hit to a double play his first time up and a foul ball. The Pirates up by a run. Last half of inning number five. Bats in there and it’s 0 and two. And a slider misses down and away. Can’t connect on the curve ball. Struck him out. Really love the pitch sequence right there. I’m telling you what, pitcher and catch are on the same page right now. [Music] Now the Dback’s catcher, Gabrielle Moreno. Had a curve misses outside. Ball one. Well, on the mound, very efficient, able to produce an outcome. It seems like within the third or fourth pitch of just about every at bat. Two outs outside. Two and0 in there for a strike at the bottom of the zone. Three balls, one strike. Here’s an opportunity to do some damage and perhaps unlock this offense. 3-1 count. Be ready to turn on a fast ball. The pitch. Here’s a swing and a line drive. And that’s a base hit into right field. And that extends the inning. Just so sound in his mechanics. Hits against a firm front side and the hands just continue to carry through the middle of the field. Alec Thomas will hit next. Swinging a foul straight back. [Music] Moreno off of first with Jul. [Music] One ball, two strike. Rarely will you see a pitcher just a waste pitch like that. The batter wasn’t even tempted to swing. Every pitch needs to have a purpose so that it can set up a following pitch to help you get that out. [Applause] swing and a miss. And that is that. He continues to roll on the mound as five shutout innings are in the books. It’s the Pirates one and the Diamondbacks nothing. And welcome back to the ballpark. Here’s O’Neal Cruz Cruz. And that’s through there for a strike. Oh, he’s been incredibly efficient in this one. First pitch strike percentage over 70%. That’s well above league average and that’s what’s allowed him to pitch well up to this point. There’s a one. That’s two in one. And that one [Music] upstairs and that’s pushed foul off to the left and out of play. Back to work. 3-2 now. That one misses. So a lead off walk up next for the designated hitter. And now it’s Andrew McCutchen. Bull for two in this one. He might want to steal second in this spot, but he’s dealing with a catcher that has one of the best pop times in the game. He needs to pick his spot very wisely. McCutchen, 38 years old. He’s usually in right field, but today he’s getting the DH treatment. The pitch to McCutchen swinging a drive deep right field. That one back there makes the catch gliding out of the warning track. Outstanding catch right there. And I love the commitment that he showed. He knew that the wall was close but was determined to make that catch and a nice calculation of just how much room he had to try to minimize that contact. Porwitz up for the third time and takes ball one. One ball strike. Well, a nice day off for him. Not having to jog out to the outfield. Gets to be in the D8 spot. Be curious to see how he keeps himself in a rhythm, not playing defense. Two both in the dirt but kept close. One-run game. One out, one on check. Swing called strike. It’s two and two. Tough call right there to even the count. Such a big difference between 3-1 and 22 in terms of how the odds shift for the at bat. In the air, left side, Guriel handles the chance. Manager out of the dugout and he’s going to make a change. Brandon F will depart and he exits in line for the loss, but overall he pitched pretty well. We’ll be back with a new pitcher in a minute. They hand the ball over to a new arm, Ryan Thompson. And he’s had his struggles so far this year. As you can see, the inflated RA looking to bring that down a little bit right here. This is Joey Barter Joey Bart. That misses and that is ball one. If he’s going to steal second, you want him to go early in the count. That way he’s not a distraction to the hitter at the plate. Go ahead and get it out of the way so the hitter can focus on the pitch. Next offering is downstairs two. Pickoff move to first and he’s back in safely. Ground ball Naylor. He takes it himself to the bag and that’ll do it. Nice work from the snake pen there. 91 and two scheduled to hit in the home half of the six. It’s the Pirates one and the Diamondbacks nothing. Back here in the desert. Bottom of the six. Stepping in is the switch hitting shortstop Peral inside and that’s ball one. But a short stop takes the ball. Homeplayed umpires trying to tighten things up a little bit. Pitch misses there and that’s ball three. Expect for that guy to come right at you with a fast ball, something in the zone because he does not want to allow the layoff ball. Let’s see if he gives him anything to hit here. And that one clips the corner. [Music] fought off foul. Base hits center field. So now back to the top of the order. Couple of hits in a row for him here. I could watch base hits like that one all day long and so could every hitting coach in the league. Just a nice line drive into center field. No outs. Runner at first. Corbin Carroll stands in now for the Diamondbacks. Fouled off. He was late. [Music] That pitch in for a strike. Oh, and two with two strikes. May see some movement over there at first base. Trying to stay out of the double play right here. Lifted in the air now the left side and it stays fair. Headed to the plate. He’ll score. His confidence level is so high. Really nice job of coming through in a big spot. Just a big hit behind third right there. And that’s a really tough play for a third baseman or shortstop to get to and the same for the left fielder. So he just found a perfect place to drop that one in right there. A chance now to take the lead. And at this point in the game, that could be a deciding run. Runner in scoring position. No outs. Marte digs in now. Ball one, no strikes. Hitter’s got some good opposite field power. What I like about something being hit to the right side into the outfield is that the base runner at second has a very good read and can determine whether or not he can score on that base hit. The lefty the one. He was late there. Strike one. One ball, one [Music] strike. Highf fly ball out towards left center. Fan moving under this one. Calls it in. And there’s one away. Now that is leftielder Lordes Muriel [Applause] Jr. So the go-ahead run in scoring position. Lordis Goreiel Jr. stands in now for the Diamondbacks. And that’s way high. Ball one. Definitely a frustrating day for the offense, but when they look at it, this guy’s had his best stuff. Been painting the corners, working on the edges, and changing speeds. Just a difficult one. You tip your cap. Swing and a highf fly ball left field. Cruz moving under it, brings it in. That’s out number two. Now that is the first baseman Josh Naylor. Josh Naylor the next to hit. One for two. And a fast ball in there for a strike at 91. Movement in the bullpen. One arm from each side out there and throwing. [Music] Swing and a pop off in foul ground and that’s the inning. Dex with a runscoring double. Call even now at 1-1. You’re dialed into the show. We go to the top of the seventh and now the right fielder Alexander Canario. Alexander Canario. First pitch doesn’t find the zone. You know, these Pirates just aren’t putting great swings on the baseball in this one. You really can’t pin it on one player because we’ve seen soft contact up and down this lineup. It’s time to make some adjustments because this approach is just off. The cause for these struggles is a little different for each guy. For some, it’s timing and for others it’s mechanics. Whatever it is, they need to start hitting the ball harder. Next pitch a slider that misses outside. Blows the high. He passed him. That’s a strike out. So next to the plate for Pittsburgh, Adam Frasier. His splits between April and May there. Swing and a tapper. Toss to Naylor. Frasier attire. Isaiah Connor Falefa up to the plate. Ground ball right side. Marte throws to first in time. That takes care of Connor Falefa. And the Pirates go one, two, three. So they make short work of them there. Seventh inning stretch time. All tied 1-1. [Music] Back here at Chase Field. Bottom of the seventh. Here’s the third baseman. Auheno Suarez. Audio Suarez. that one outside and it’s one and0. Well, these Diamondbacks need to bring up the quality of their bats and specifically their swings. Just one extra base hit for him, so they haven’t exactly been hitting the ball gap to gap or out of the park. That makes it really difficult to generate runs. Next offering is in for a strike. Let’s go. That’s foul off to the right side. Keeps the AB going. on the ground to the left and one away in the bottom of the seven. Now the right fielder Smith. Now up next for Arizona, Pave Smith. Got it started a little too early. Strike one. All tied up here. The bottom of the seventh. [Music] [Music] Swinging a foul back and that’s out of play. Next pitch misses way outside. One gone runner at first. Next to hit for Arizona, Gabrielle Moreno. Runner takes off on its way to the corner. Fan on the move. Tries to make the play but it’s fouled. [Music] Heat. Heat. And there’s a ball. One and two. One away. Tie game. Go ahead run stands at first. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. Slider got him for strike three. Oh, that slider down and away. It’s just kind of a slow death with two strikes you’re looking to protect. and halfway to the plate, you know you’ve committed and you know you’re going to have no chance of touching it. Tell you what, sometimes you just have to tip your cap. Alec Thomas stands in now for the Diamondbacks and that’s off the inside edge and that’s ball one. Let’s go do that. Strike on the inside corner. Swing and a ground ball. And that one gets through into center field. And that moves the go-ahead run to score in position with two gone. Just kept it simple. Played Pepper with the middle of the infield and took it back where it came from and there was just no one there to knock it down. Now a good opportunity to potentially jump ahead in this game here in the later innings. Here’s the shorts stop at the plate. Heraldo Purdomo. He’s two for two. Pitch misses there. One and0. Two on, two outs. And downstairs could be some action here on this next pitch. Couple runners on. Probably a challenge pitch coming. Two outs. That one to first. He takes it himself to the bag and that’ll do it. Diamondback strand of pair still tied 1-1. We go to the eighth at the plate for Pittsburgh. Tommy Fan Thompson back to work. Swinging a foul out of play on the outside corner for a strike. Meanwhile, activity in the bullpen. Shelby Miller preparing to come on if needed. Beaks getting cranked up as well. That one just misses. Now one and two. Good pitch there. Billy had some run and finished little up and end just on the edge. And that’s one of those if you swing at it. He had a broken bat as you drive back to the dugout. One away. Great swing of the bat right there trying to get on as that go ahead run. He just wasn’t able to find a hole. Now the third baseman, Jared Triolo. He’s grounded out a couple of times in the air right field. Smith on his way over, makes the grab and a couple of quick outs. And now it’s going to be O’Neal Cruz. Now, this guy, a player that if he gets on base, has the ability to really be aggressive getting around the base paths inside just missed. And that misses ball two. Two down, nobody on. And we’re in the top of the eighth. Three. Andrew McCutchen in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. the 3-1. This one smoked could be trouble. Makes the turn and heads for second. In with a double and the go-ahad runs at second with two out. Well, patience and discipline paid off right there as he got into an advantage count. Anytime you rip a line drive the other way, you feel really good about what you did at the plate. You trusted your hands. You let the ball travel and you took the barrel straight to it. That’s great work right there. And a huge opportunity now to grab the lead at this point in the game. Go ahead run on base. Here’s Andrew McCutchen to hit. 0 for three in this one. Sliced hard but fouled. [Music] misses the zone and he gets him to chase. Well, you got the hitter already chasing that nasty slider. If you’re on the mound, you just want to expand the zone right now. Get a swing and miss and get through this at bat. Two down. Go ahead run and score in position. Swings and misses. Strike him out. So a two-out double, but they don’t score. Home half of inning number eight straight ahead. All tied 1-1. Back now. New pitcher on the mound as we roll into the bottom of the eighth. Ryan Bari. And they felt it was time to bring on a left-handed reliever from the pin with the lefty hitter coming up. I think it’s a good move. I know. I never liked when opposing teams did that to me. This is Corbin Carol. And that’s in for a strike. One [Music] breaking ball misses down and away. And that one almost hit him. Worm burner into the outfield for a knock. So the go-ahehead run is on base with a knock. Well, that was one of those high percentage advantage counts where batting averages are just so much higher. He wasn’t able to elevate it, but he put a great swing on it right on time, good balanced approach, and just blasted it through the infield. And now they’ve got some speed on first. So, we’ll see if they try to get him into motion. No outs. Runner at first. An outstanding hitter in Catel Marte. That one ripped but fouled. Way inside. about the go-ahead run aboard at first. Nobody out. [Music] Got it. Swinging for the strike out. Wild pitch and into second moves the go-ahead run. So the go-ahead run in scoring position. Here’s Guriel 0 for three with two fly outs and a ground out. And the slider just misses. Move to second. Carol back in on a dive. Good wheels out there on second and he’s getting a pretty big lead right now. Definitely looking to score on any hit to the outfield. One out. The go-ahead run is at second. Next offering is in for a strike. Hit hard on the ground to short. Throw to first in time. Now, the first base, Josh Naylor. And next will be the cleanup hitter, Josh Naylor. One for three. And the first pitch misses for ball one. [Music] And another ball. [Applause] There’s the strike and it’s two and one. Nasty two slider there for a strike. That tells you he’s got a lot of confidence in that pitch. Next off, is down low. Feel like he’s frustrated a little bit. He wants to be challenged. That one ripped. This one could be trouble. Coming home. He will score. The Diamondbacks took the lead. And he’ll make it to second base with two gone. Such great concentration. Everybody on their feet knowing that you can come through with a good swing and there he doesn’t try to do too much. So runner at second, two down. Aueno Suarez stands in now for the Diamondbacks. And that one fouled off. [Music] and a swing and a miss. And that’s that. But a run will score in the inning on this RBI double. Last chance coming up for the Pirates. Back now and on the mound the closer Shelby Miller. He’s doing the ball very well overall this season. He’s been really tough to get to. You see that RA and that’s where you love to be. [Applause] And here’s the first baseman, Spencer Horwitz. Hit on the ground up the middle. That’s a base hit. And that puts the tying run on base. Everything came together perfectly for him right there. Wasn’t able to elevate that one, but he sure hit it hard enough to get through the infield. There’s not a whole lot of time for the defenders to react and try to make a play when it’s ripped like that. And now the catcher comes up to him. Joey Bart 0 for three with two strikeouts and a ground out. There’s the strike. Oh, this is a case of just slowing the game down. Sometimes you get so concerned with getting the job done. You forget that you still have to get a good pitch to do the job with. Trying to move him over here. And that’s fouled. Crowd locked in right now. One-run game here in the ninth. The 02 and a foul ball. He stays alive. Strike three. got him swinging and a strike out for the first out here in the ninth. Now it’s the right fielder Alexander Canario. He’s already homerred in this game. Off the mark there and that is ball one. Way to lay off that pitch down and that one fouled off. Swinging a miss and that is strike two. Really going after him here. All fast balls to get ahead in the count. Fouls it back with two strikes. [Music] Chopped on the ground and that’s a foul ball. Fair ball. Here comes the throw. Throw pulls him off the bag and he’s saved. The first move felt like a bit of a guess. You have to be right in those spots or things can get away from you awfully quickly. So a change being made out at second and on a pinch run for Pittsburgh number 46. So two in scoring position with one out. Up next for the Pirates, Adam Frasier. Oh, he doesn’t get the call. Ball one. puts a bunt down. Throw to first in time there for the out run comes in on a safety squeeze. Well, the safety squeeze can be tough to defend, especially with a good runner at third. You can’t risk trying to be overly aggressive and make a play at the plate and give up that easy out at first. Isaiah Kiner Falefa the next pirate to hit. We might have a dramatic inning in store, partner. One big swing and they jump out in front. There’s a strike. Activity in the Arizona bullpen. Kevin Ginkle getting ready to go. Two outs right through there for a strike. And a bat like this is almost over as it begins. In this situation, you have no idea what the next pitch is going to be. You just got to hope that you can make contact. Go and now that one’s upstairs. Ball one. Well, he missed badly with that 02 fast ball. Hitter has to understand probably wants to try to put him away with that pitch. So, got to stay ready for it. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. They limit the damage here. He’s in a tough spot. Had to make a great pitch. Did it. Got the strike out. Gets out of the jam. Clearly, he’s happy with those results. back now as they hand the ball to a fresh arm to start the bottom of the ninth, Andrew Heeney. And compared to a lot of other relievers, strikeouts have not been a big weapon for him this year, so the defense should be active. Chopper right side. Frasier tosses to first and they get the leadoff man in the ninth. The catcher Gabrielle Moreno. Gabrielle Moreno stands in now for the Diamondbacks. And that one upstairs. Ball one. Activity in the bullpen. Paul Ste loosening up in case he’s called upon by Derek Shelton. One down. Base is empty. Hit hard on the ground to the right side. Down the line. And it’s foul. lined into right. No trouble here. Puts it away for the out. Two down. Man, if that drops right there, they would have gotten the potential winning run on base. Maybe even in the scoring position. But that’s just one of those hang with them. pulls that one foul. Trying to send this to extra innings. Check swing called stride. And that one is downstairs and account one and two. This one popped up. Foul ground first base side. And that is the inning. No runs, no hits, no errors. Nine isn’t enough to decide a winner. So we are off to extra innings. We are tied 2-2. And we’re back on to extra innings. Now the left fielder Tommy Fan lifted in the air right field. Brings it in. Runner tags it second. And he’s in safely at third with one out. So the go-ahehead run in scoring position. Triolo now at the plate. Slider for a strike. Definitely a strikeout situation right here. Lots of ways for that go-ahead run to score if the ball’s put in play. And now the runner breaks for the plate and he pops up the squeeze. Play at the plate. Safe and they take the lead. Toss to Naylor. Bun attempt doesn’t work. They get the out. Suicide squeeze can be one of the most exciting plays in all of baseball because it’s such a layered play and everything comes together so quickly. Right there. It all came together perfectly at a huge time as they take the lead. Now the Diamondbacks manager is out of the dugout and he’ll make a move to the pen. Shelby Miller won’t go any further and he leaves in a one-run game. New pitcher coming on. We’ll be back in a minute. Kendall Graveman gets the call from the pen. Just trying to keep this one close here. And this is where a bullpen can give their players a chance to fight back into the game. Here’s the center fielder, O’Neal Cruz. And that’s in there at the knees for a strike. Next pitch is outside. Action in the pen down there. Justin Martinez up and throwing. Beaks the lefty warming up as well. Oh, what a stop. The throws. They get the out and that’ll do it. This guy’s anticipation is off the charts. Don’t see many short stops better than that. Great job to complete the play and end the inning. So, the closer summoned from the bullpen, Dennis Santana. And if you dig into his walk rate, his numbers are really impressive. He’s really filled up the strike zone this season. So, these batters better be ready to swing the bats. Runner in scoring position. No outs. Purdomo getting ready to hit. And this one bounces away from Bart. And no movement on the bases. It’s ball one. So the tying run at second and that’s fouled off. That’s off the mark and the count is two and two. Spoils a two strike pitch and he’ll see another. Next pitch, a slider that misses outside. Corbin Carroll in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. Keeps the bat going with a foul ball. Well, he’s having a tough time getting a pitch by him. As a hitter, you feel pretty confident that you’re seeing different pitches still able to make some type of contact. Out to short, Connor Falefa in plenty of time to first. One out in the bottom of the tenth. Corin. [Music] So next is the designated hitter for the Dbacks, Corbin Carroll. And he takes one right on the black. That’s strike one. Getting a little frustrated with the strike zone. And that’s in for a strike. He’s clearly out there throwing pitchers pitches in this situation. First base is open. He walks in. No big deal with the winning run at the plate. The home team trying to pull it out. Swing and a highf fly ball. Well struck left field and an automatic double as it hops the fence as a run scores on the play. That ball exploded off his bat and off the warning track as well as it bounced over the fence. And it sounded really good, too. Just put together a really nice swing and just missed a home run. Here’s Catel Marte. Pitch misses and it’s one and0. One ball strike. One away. The winning run at second. chopped to the left side and that one handled. Tosses across the first. They get the out on Marte. Now, Daddy leftielder at the plate. Lordis Goreel Jr. Oh, how he’d love to walk it off right here. And that’s off the outside edge. And that’s ball one. And another ball. Two ball. The healthy cut. Tough pitch at 98, but a really good pass at the ball to the right side and it finds its way through for a hit. Here comes the throw. The winning run crosses the plate and they walk it off in extra innings. Well, you come to the ballpark hoping you’ll see something special that day. Whether you’re a player or a fan, a walk-off win, nobody forgets that. A memorable moment that’ll be logged in the backs of the minds of everybody that witnessed this here today. 4-3 our final score for Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding crew here at MLB the show. I’m John Shami. We’ll see you soon. [Music] Help me move. [Music]
